HP's for PoF Elites

I’m starting to think that Hero Points are not going to be the way to unlock the Elites then.

Exactly, since anet has not said I am not assuming it will be HPs and it will be 250 of them. For all we know we get some new currency and will use that.

Then why are there HP’s in the new maps? They would be useless.

Why do we have the challenges in the old maps when you get enough points just by leveling?

Because we used to need them when they were still skillpoints (they were also used as currency for several crafting materials). An excuse POF does not have.

I meant I was here while we were still under that system. Since that is not the system now the only purpose they serve is to get things sooner. Why not just remove them, right? It sounds like they have heard us that people want to play the elites from the start.

If you suspect someone of botting, hacking, cheating…whatever the best thing to do is report them.

It’s not an automated system – you won’t get an innocent person banned simply by sending a report (or even several reports). Nothing will happen until an actual person has looked into the situation and made a decision. So if they’re not doing anything wrong they have nothing to worry about.

If they move away before you can report them there’s nothing you can do, but chances are someone else will report them or Anet’s own systems will pick them up sooner or later.

Actually, having. “Where” command might come in handy. For instance, /w would list all people in your current map so you could judge the population for possible event attendees. Maybe. Kinda.

Having a count of people in the map, and ideally some idea of where they are, would be very useful in some situations. It’s not uncommon for someone to drop into a map like Dragon’s Stand or SIlverwastes (where player numbers are important), look at the area immediately around the waypoint and declare the map “dead” and start telling everyone to leave based entirely on the number of people in that one spot.

Or do the same just because there isn’t a commander. Last time I did Dragon’s Stand the north lane didn’t have a commander until about 1/2 way through. We had about 20 people and were actually completing our events ahead of the other two groups but people were so fixated on the need for one person to have a signpost over their head that they kept on insisting we were going to cause the whole map to fail because there weren’t enough people.

Once someone gets started on that, and especially once they’ve told other people who may be new to the map and don’t know how it works it can be very hard for anything (even succeeding at the events) to get through to them. Whereas if there was a quick way for them to check the population when they enter (maybe showing a total as well – e.g. 53/150) they wouldn’t need to start worrying over nothing.

But I can’t see any benefit to providing the actual names of the people in the map.

When I have seen names elsewhere it has been to provide click targets for actions. So, yeah, the only names you probably would care about are friends if GW2 is not going to add actions (like joining a party or adding a friend) to the names. We should at the minimum get map dots without tagging up and/or shard population counts though.

Fortunately there’s no way to invade the privacy of all players in the map as you’re asking, and – to be frank – it’s weird to me that you’ve been playing two weeks and before you even understand the mechanics of the game and what is/isn’t legit, you’re already reporting people for botting? I’ve been playing for years and I’m never sure if someone’s botting or just logging in and out quickly, as the other posters have explained. Coming straight into a game and doing that… just seem overly judgemental.

Invade privacy? Before I came here I used Second Life, which not only gives you a list to how far away people are it also puts dots for everyone on the map, oh, and tells you how many people are in a region so you know if you are near/at the limit. Also where the major events are because that will be where all the dots cluster.

Only the most neurotic people called it an invasion of privacy.

If you want to do the story you still will have to pay but it will keep the zones active and some of the people that it brings it will buy the story because they like the zone. Meanwhile people who previously unlocked it will have gotten their enjoyment from it and moved on to the current content.

With the exceptions of Bitterfrost Frontier and Lake Doric all the other maps do not have any kind of zone border with existing zones. How exactly are they gonna give access to those zones without having access to the story that leads you there?
And please don’t say “teleport to a friend”

Some of them are reachable via rata novus. You can also sell their teleport scrolls on the marketplace for less than the cost of the season.

Even though I already have S3 unlocked I would LOVE to see them open up those zones to everyone at some point after they have been in the game (maybe when S4 releases say). Saying it is part of HOT is a cop-out. LS stuff should be treated like silverwastes and drytop and made core regions as far as access.

Oh so i should have been able to play sylverwastes and drytop without buying the base game when it was still p2p. Thats what you are saying no?

Actually, I started playing late in S3 and only later went back to buy the first episodes. Even though the episodes that introduced drytop were not unlocked for me I still was able to roam around it (and SW before I went there in the story).

PvP vs PvE

There needed to be a skill split for a long time and we finally got it recently. In PVP you really care about balance because you do not want to fight an overpowered profession. In PVE it is not important at all, except nobody wants to see a profession in PVE get a major nerf.

Part of the problem is multiple modes get thrown together and it is easy to wander from one to the other. Casuals and newbies will find the best experience in open world PVE. Your results with map chat will vary, sometimes helpful, sometimes toxic. This is also where you can use any equipment you want without worrying too much it will be called out as ‘wrong’ all the time (you might still want to optimize things, but it is not as critical as the other modes). Fractals, PVP, etc …. well, be very very careful that you know what you are doing first, even if you think you will like those other modes more.

For anything other than non-instanced PVE I would suggest joining a party/squad with friends the first few times. The nature of those modes is to be more intense so you do not want that piled on just learning the game.

That is what I was wondering this morning. We do know that they will fill up one trait line first then go back for the other 2, so you can get a master one ASAP. People have said the HP challenges were 1 HP each, vets rather than champs, and they reset daily but we do not know if that is what we will get next Friday.

I think it was WP that was speculating we might do a collection this time so they have a bit of meaning? Or maybe that was for their items?

Well, the flickering is still there and so is the ghosting. Turning off the Ambient Occlusion helps but it turns itself back on every time you restart the game.

Thanks! I will have to take a look at that as I was wondering why I was still getting ghosting after turning it off.

I usually notice it when hanging around outside the home instance in Divinty’s Reach. One of the areas I wish I had some better graphics controls at because it is both dark in some areas and bright in others.

3) If you have a disability, keep it to yourself. Because of the elitist mentality that came with HoT, any slight variance from a flawless run will get you scorn.

Oh yeah I have ran into that one. I tried to do a light comment about how a vision disability would affect gameplay and the response from someone was basically ‘get gud’.

In general though, treat map chat as youtube comments. Do you judge the whole internet from what some random stranger says on one? There are plenty of people more than willing to help (although we might be busy at the time and unable to do so). For example, when I have gone around starter areas map chatting newbie tips (like looking for events rather than just focusing on hearts) I have had other vets chime in that it was good advice. Just ask for help on most starter maps (I think you need to have bought the game to get /map chat though) and odds are someone will help unless there is a big event going on.

At some point early on a dev mentioned one or two of the new specs they wanted to do for awhile (I think it was soulbeast). I just am not seeing it. To me the whole point of playing a ranger IS to have a pet. If you do not want the pet play another profession or absorb your pet skills when you stow them. Including the one with the expansion I bought 3 slots since slots were on sale but I am not wild about any of the elites as they exist now. The only 2 I am at all interested in (holosmith and scourge) are 2 characters I was planning to respec from existing characters. I really hope anet does a serious look at these new elites in the balance/release because most of them are ‘meh’ as they exist right now.

Story missions too unfair for solo players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

The reason you don’t see a lot of posts is: part of the solo players frustrated with some annoying missions moved on (from the game or from doing those mission) and some of them will not post this as the forum responses can become quite toxic: lazy, just bad, playing with the monitor turned off… and so on.

Most of the hardcore players on this forum are EXTREMELY lacking in empathy or they wouldn’t say that type of thing in the first place. And it takes empathy to understand that the VAST majority of people having trouble in any situation are not going to admit it. Look at the running joke about men not asking for directions.

People claiming that a small number of players admitting to having trouble on the forums means that only a small number of players are actually having trouble are themselves having trouble in the logic department.

I died one time in an extremely dark area and joked that I should not try doing that again. Asked to elaborate on the problem I explained it was not good if you had low vision to fight in the dark (I just had lousy night vision but did not explain that). Basically the response was ‘get gud’ …. I did not even know how to reply.

Personally, while I found some of the story instances kind of obnoxious, it doesn’t mean we as players should be able to roll them without defeat. It’s possible to respawn and dive back into a fight until it’s over. It’s uncomfortable, and it sucks, but there shouldn’t be a situation where a player can’t complete the story at all.

One thing I just LOVED seeing in the instance before the expansion was an anvil. I hope that was not a fluke as in S3 it was not unusual for me to end up with every piece of armor broken.

I’ve seen threads like this several times over the years, in this forum and others. It’s always guys and female chars. I’ve never seen one for gals and male chars.

Well…im a girl, and i hate playing as a guy. I just dont see the big enough deal to make a thread for it..soo..

Yah. Same.

Maybe I should make a thread about females unable to play male chars because it makes us feel weird and we’re unable to relate to our chars….

Yes, I have hated games that forced me to play a male character. I got a grin when Portal came out because it was turnabout.

Strangely, I feel the opposite way when it comes to race. I am an altoholic but human was the last race I added to my menagerie. Even then, they are a variety of human races. I would need to check but I think the only caucasian human I have is because she is cosplaying someone.

I believe ArenaNet had about half the staff (~200) during LWS1 than they do now (~400), so I’m not sure it’s a matter of staffing.

The expansion, Path of Fire, is releasing, almost exactly to the day, 2 months after the release of LW Season 3 Episode 6, One Path Ends. That’s pretty impressive. I don’t know if LW Season 4 Episode 1 will release in November (2 months after PoF release, and the only ‘break’ between Holiday Festivals), or in January/February (4/5 months after PoF release). Time will tell.

I loved Season One and its format and release cadence, but it was very difficult on the Devs. Every 2 months (or so) isn’t too bad, and with this cadence we have been getting new maps recently; so, that’s pretty nice.

Good luck.

I am REALLY hoping they do not try to fit LS4EP1 into this year. It seems strange after all the complaints about the content dearth pre and post HOT but even doing it in January a lot of people will look up, see what is new in the chapter, then go back to the expansion content. I am not as excited by most of the elites this time but am by exploring the new zones and getting the masteries.

I would suggest exploring the core areas more. For some reason it feels to me like replayability has gone down over time, even though things like quality have gone up. We have had the core maps since the beginning but I can never fail to find something to do there. Meanwhile, by the time I got to LS3 the new maps were ‘wow, gee’ and for most of them only visit a few times. Between Siren’s Landing and Draconis Mons I probably made a dozen trips combined and did not even bother to do the story after I got to the new zones.

1:00 am test in my country… on a weekday. Yes very stress test.

I demand 2nd round at better times during this weekend!

This time with access to golem at Special forces training area. So we can test numbers and give some proper feedback instead of:
This doesnt look pretty! / This is too pretty! / This FEELS off

This is crucial to whether I’m buying PoF or not.

You do realize the point of a stress test is not for us to decide if we want to buy it/test builds but for them to check the load on the region’s servers, right?

Why are melee players punished?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

The curse of GW2 is that you need to be flexible. For instance, as a warrior, I play a condition viper build where I can switch to the longbow if necessary in certain situations. However, as said warrior, I am doing the quickest (melee) DPS out of any other class that I also play as melee — therefore the enemy goes down in the blink of an eye (in comparison). Also, a warrior has powerful downstate skills which get you up and running again quickly.

Everything is being compensated that way. And as Sigfodr pointed out, learning the class skills and how/when to use which skill (also skill combos) is most important.

And as for my initial statement: the curse of GW2, furthermore, is that there are no real profession characteristics anymore. It’s one big blur of so-called “balancing” where pretty much every class does the same in the end, especially with more elite specializations being released. E.g., the new ranger elite spec fulfills many duties that I would see fit for a guardian, but not a ranger, namely providing boons; before that, the druid elite spec for ranger was also used for all sorts of support, when in my eyes a ranger is a fighter, not a supporter class… But hey, what do I know, right?

Yes, assuming you are in a profession that can weapon swap my suggestion is a ranged weapon and a melee weapon. My goto is longbow/greatsword, but others will argue for other combos.

Coming up on a fight use ranged to at least tag it fast. When closer use the one that is optimal for that fight, knowing melee will do more damage.

no really, think before you act, Europeans don’t live at nigh, we sleep till 7 at least so that means your stress test isn’t gonna have much “stress” to begin with.
and i know your European server is somewhere in ether Germany or Amsterdam so connection is faster, with this time schedule you can just as much stop and wait till ppl are actually awake.

You do realize a stress test is for THEM not US right? Which means it will be at a time they are in the office. Even so, no matter what time they pick it will be inconvenient for someone and ideal for someone else. The time chosen was ideal for people in EST who went home a little early (5 pm for us) so there was a load. I am also guessing a lot of other people were at home anyway or left earlier in the rest of the US.

As to 7 am? Please. I have been getting up at 6 for decades, 7 is sleeping in. I am guessing a few other people do the same or earlier since buses and trains are already running when I wake up.

I’m curious why they decided to go with 2pm PST on the stress test, and for a couple of hours only. In US, most people will be at work or school, and for most of EU that’s very late in the evening (midnight for me). And on a business day instead of friday/saturday evening? Makes no sense whatsoever, unless I am very much misunderstanding the meaning of a ‘stress test’.

Nevertheless, it’s nice to get some more PoF time, even at very odd hours deep in the thursday/friday night.

The point of a stress test is to give them info. Which means it needs to be done in their business hours. Our getting a peek at things is a side benefit. Having it at 2 splits the difference between them being there and some NA people online (mostly on the East Coast).

Of course, it could just be they have something else before that.

If the elite specs will indeed be available, that’d be nice so I can actually have a much more accurate test for my main since they will be spending most of their time in PvE anyways.

Also a thought, maybe given the limited time of this test, we should be put directly into Amnoon with the Raptor unlocked and the two masteries that could be unlocked during the preview weekend instantly unlocked for us so we can get straight to the nitty-gritty.

While I appreciate the suggestion, and I can see what motivated it, we really need those who want to participate to go through the process as if it was release day.

Looks like it will be the third time going through the initial instance for me (plus watching it before the first time on youtube). I had hoped to avoid that as I am starting to memorize people’s lines.

Hopefully the heart has at least been changed so we do not need to put out every fire and rez everyone in order to get 100% complete.

Let’s see if I get this right… Guild Wars 2 players are wanted to get into game on 31 August 2017 and use demo accounts, spend hours in Path of Fire, just tot test PoF product.

Will I get payed? Will I get any rewards? Will I get anything for my time spent on testing your product or content?

From what I understand I get nothing from testing other virtual content. The demo account will be erased, and I won’t get any reward or attention from my time spent there, in that expansion. Why should I do that?! There is no fun in wasting valuable time that will be erased and forgotten later. Every second of life counts.

I am sorry, but like Benjamin Franklin said: “Time is money”. I shall not help you with my time unless you pay me.

Simple answer over complaining about it: do not do it.

Say a car dealership offered to let you have a sneak test drive before the car was shown to the public. If you wanted to see that car you would be all over it, getting a chance to see the car first WOULD be your payment. If you do not consider that adequate then the answer is simple: decline the offer.

Nobody is FORCING you to participate in the stress test. Most people that want to see the expansion will be more than happy to participate in the stress test if their schedule permits them to. It is basically an extra beta weekend but at a different time.

In my case, I constantly suffer from non-critical graphical glitches and graphics artifacts in game. But in general the performance is better than old client.

Yes, I would hope their jira rank is pretty much the following:

#1: showstoppers …. the keyboard bug is the prime one here

#2: performance ….. while my raw fps is lower I have yet to try and tune my graphics settings. The settings the client suggests may not be optimal.

#3: misc graphics glitches ….. some are annoying to be sure but can be lived with while fixed

All in all, a great job anet! From what I can see the keyboard bug is the main thing in the way of the 64 bit client.

I hope they do buff scourge so it is viable as power. Using the shroud I was always meh about so giving it up for something that works better is a trade I would happily make.

BTW, can someone merge this into the main thread in case someone else finds the info handy? Thanks.

Sorry, I could not find the mega thread, is it still here?

it’s here

Thanks, I have a tab open to it elsewhere but could not find it starting from scratch.

Anyway, I was in my guild hall doing gathering and suddenly my arrows were working but other keys were not working. I had to use my mouse to quit the client and come back. I checked and it did not switch to another keyboard.

Unfortunately this is really something that should be addressed before the 64 bit is the only option for mac people. It is not like this is a graphics bug as you can not predict when it will happen.

As I’ve stated a few times now, it’s been incredibly difficult to reproduce in-house.

I have a couple theories about it that I’d love for you to try if/when it happens again:

The first theory is to press each of the modifier keys, one at a time. Possibly testing if the keys work again after each. Left and right versions of the keys matter here too. The specific keys to try are Shift, Alt/Option, Command and Function.

The second theory is to Cmd-Tab/task-switch to another app and back. Finder works for this.

Thanks

This is only the second time it has happened to me since the client rolled out so, yes, I can see how it would be hard to replicate. Both times it was on a late 2013 imac with 24 gb of ram. The keyboard is running over bluetooth but if it were an interference problem I would expect the device to drop off completely: at least my arrow keys (how I normally navigate) worked. While my escape key did not work to bring up the main menu so I could quit I was able to do the same thing with the mouse. While I am not positive the first time it happened (when I was in the brisban cave instance in LS3CH6) I probably tried clicking on another app’s window because I had never seen it before.

- Unidentified should show/stack by rarity. This was a biggie, nobody wanted to risk salvaging a precursor but would not mind identifying the occasional thing that had ectos.

- Mastery points should not be gated behind minigames. I would say the more insights (that are not insane to get to) the better.

- While we did not see elites PLEASE have a good way to get them, hot was ugh, especially the initial 400 pt bit.

- In general raptors were nice and fluid to mount, a bit jerky moving but I suppose I will get used to it. Too many things unseat you though.

The PoF Beta... what do you think so far?

Got in… did the first part of the story on it… then found “mastery point”. Yay a mastery point, right there in the city. Oh wait… it’s more like a “heart”…. and super pain in the butt exercise that I finally gave up on. I’m not sure why this was implemented this way but I finally gave up on it… went out into the desert for a few minutes… and I haven’t been back.

Which one? I found two in the city: fetching ingredients (did not bother to do) and hopping from one roof to another. The latter took a few tries but I eventually got it.
