Mounts [merged]

I hope it’s real! The mounts look great and will be fun in my opinion.

If they arent real someone went through like… real development work just to fake it, lol. I am usually negative, but I think its real.

The question is, are these a general addition or will it just be a straight up replacement to gliders in the new zones (with some poor excuse that gliding doesnt work there)…

If it is general (available in existing zones together with HoT/vanilla accounts) I guess a couple of things:
- Its probably not going to be faster than running. Maybe an easy way to get the eqvivalent of perma swiftness.
- Combat will more than likely be token as classes are much stronger on foot.
- Not gonna happen for WvW. Ever.

Since they had multiple masteries with them I suspect it will not just be a case of a faster way to travel (although it will be a goddessend for those without perm swiftness). It will be interesting to see if they implement them in zones other than the ones with the new expack though, like was done with gliding.

Another Tangled Depths style map? I had hoped you learned your lesson after the last few maps …. some people love that style and others hate it with a passion. I doubt this map will last long once the ‘ooh, new shiny!’ has worn off which is a shame because obviously it took a lot of work. I also thought the mastery was disappointing unless it will be used on other maps, we basically have to spend 5 MPs to get whatever the episode 6 one is.

So with that out of the way I loved getting a mini of Taimi now. The reveal in the first instance was unexpected to say the least too! Fortunately the fight was better than some of the other initial instances …. no broken armor this time!

buy a gemstore sickle and be done with it OP

Edit
You got atleast 1 shared account slot from the level 80 boost that you can use to share it bettwen all alts

If the OP just wanted al ong lasting sickle that wasn’t gemstore, there’s the Advanced Harvesting Sickle for 125 uses.

However, I’m 99.99% sure that the OP wanted a longer lasting harvesting sickle that gives unbound magic.

I’m still hopeful that in Episode 5 or 6, ArenaNet will add in Advanced Unbound gathering tools – 250/125 (for axe/pick and sickle respectively) uses that cost 5 times as much karma (or double karma + 2 laurels) per. Best of both worlds – gives us longer lasting Unbound tools, but doesn’t add more infinite tools that are clearly superior than the others (looking at you, Watchwork Mining Pick!).

Leave it to them to add it in 6, about the same time the need for UB is dying down. I figured I would be farming UM a lot so bought an infinite set for 3 shared slots. Then realized I liked the UM tools better.

Yes, it helps to know that. I usually use the UM sickles or an unbreakable but not one of those two. Strange anet would change the speed on some but not all. If I am not fighting a mob to get the bush though, someone else is fighting a mob there and it would seem a bit …. uncouth …. to run up, harvest, and run away leaving them to fight the mob themselves. On the plus side, my typical trips to bitterfrost net me 2,000 to 3,000 UM so there is that.

My annoyance is that you pretty much need to wait for the meta in that zone to start exploring any of orr beyond the eastern bank of SD. Especially if you are on a sub-level character that is not wearing exotics yet.

Yes, whenever I see claims of 5 minutes or 10 minutes for winterberries I have to laugh. I spend much longer than that, On a typical berry run I also do chests, any dailies (not counting the elixir, which is strange to make a daily), a couple hearts, kill mobs, and a few dynamic events. Then there is inventory maintenance every once in awhile. I usually park my characters near the central WP too. OK, I am not min/maxing the run, but hey.

Something would be very wrong if the answer was not to change an almost never used environmental weapon and nerf an entire class instead. I suspect the weapon will either be restored with restrictions or removed entirely.

I think Reddit is worrying needlessly here.

Have you seen what they have done to some classes in the name of the almighty balance? What is worse, when the balance issue is in a game mode you never play.

Yeah, but, here is the thing … ANet make those decisions because they have the numbers, at scale, across the entire playerbase. Reasonable estimates put that at more than a couple hundred thousand people a week.

If the 3-bleeds-on-chill trait is unbalanced when used fairly, it’ll change. If it’s unbalanced when used with an effectively “unlimited number of chill stacks” environmental weapon, they will fix the weapon, one way or another. (Worst case, remove it, best case, ICD on chill applied by that one attack.)

Balance is about just that, balance. It doesn’t matter if it’s “fun” to you, or if you can’t see where the unbalanced part of the change is. It’s about ensuring that all the classes are roughly equally capable across the board.

Don’t get salty just because, sometimes, you feel like that wasn’t entirely fair to your fave, and remember: everyone gets hit with the nerf-bat at some point. into the GROUND!

The trait is working as intended for how much chill the reaper itself has access to. The trait is absolutely not the problem here. The only problem was how many applications of chill the frost gun skills could put out incredibly quickly. So I hope their fix only involves adding a short ICD to the chill application of the frost gun

Reread my post as I was talking about balancing in general when someone asked if reaper would be nerfed. I had not used the frost gun but I have been burned by other balances.

I am talking about ‘balances’ that completely nerf a profession for the people that were not abusing what was seen as a problem. I do not care what the trait is, NO one trait is worth basically making any profession unusable. The balance-hammer tends to be overused when a finer touch would solve a distinct use case.

Unfortunately the ascended items are unique. So if you got a ring from Winterfrost for one hand you still need one for the other.

edit: Oh, did not notice you wrote about infused. Although if I am understanding it right you need to do fractals? What I am doing is getting one ascended ring on everyone and the second ring on them in priority order. Characters I do not play often may not get their rings until next year but ones I play almost every day will have them the soonest.

Nerfing Taimi

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

So, what does Taimi do???? She’s (apparently) really smart, sees all the answers that no one else can see, and devises solutions no one else is thinking up. She’s Wesley Crusher.

If that’s not an indictment, I don’t know what is.

what taimi does is research how magic works and how it can be used against the elder dragons since they like it so much

Yes, we know that. But look at the entire structure of Asura culture. It revolves around competition to be the best in your field and invent the best things in your field. During this time of war, why is the most effective group of people fighting the dragons (the Commander’s party) toting around a young Asura who hasn’t even finished school? Why don’t we have someone from the top ranks of Asura culture who has already proven themself?

And frankly no one should be allowing Taimi to do this research. If a college student discovered a secret building with alien technology, the grown-ups he knows would not allow him to keep it secret and go in there and play with the technology. Especially someone who has essentially been a NATO commander. They would tell the relevant authorities.

In real life, the entire group would be brought up on charges for keeping this information from the Asuran government during a time of war. But in GW2 Taimi’s research will save the day so everyone will overlook what she did and how we helped her hide it. This is why the Taimi writing is nonsensical.

Not having access to earlier story chapters may make things not be making sense here. The commander’s group came across Taimi in season 1 and she wound up hanging out with them. She quickly started pulling her own weight (both intellectually and sometimes quite literally since she had Scruffy). Any story is very much about personal interactions so they would never do something like turn someone over to the authorities without trying to correct things first.

The school thing has been addressed in this thread. When we would expect kids to be in elementary school they are in the equivalent of HS and early college. By the time you are picking out your college/school you are really deciding where you will do your post-doctoral work. Even without being in one of the Asura colleges it can be reasonably argued that she is doing an EXCELLENT independent study.

What? Taimi is our sunshine. If not for the dragons, for her alone I would walk through whatever she sends me.

She might be your sunshine, but she’s not mine lol.

She (and Canach) are the best developed and believable current story NPCs.

You find it believable that a young asura who hasn’t finished school yet is allowed (by her people AND the Commander of the Pact) to join a team in the field battling dragon minions? Nevermind the danger to herself, why would anyone choose her over any number of more proven “geniuses”?

No, this isn’t “believable” – this is an artificial situation created by Anet in order to get this “cute” character into the story for the “awe, so cute” factor. Whether I think Taimi’s character is cute or not, nothing about the story treatments that include her are “believable”.

Maybe I should start a ‘Cult of Taimi’ guild.

As to age, it is relative. While he body may be young (she is an older progeny) intellectually she is doing her doctoral dissertation. I see less non-mature stuff from her and more stuff you would expect from someone in their 30s. An age well past when you would expect adventurers to be out in the field.

There is a keyboard equivalent? Cool! I use my mouse as little as possible in the game so it is nice to know I do not have to rely on it to hit that icon.

A Thank You to the Commanders.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

Yes, commanders enhance the game experience quite a lot. And by commanders I mean people who actually command, not the idiots who just bought expensive bling so they could be seen from space.
I think that there are probably a lot of people who don’t understand that commanding is a job. They don’t just tag up so that they can be seen on the map, and continue to just play the game as normal. It’s a lot more work than that. And they do it because they want to help other players. Not that it isn’t fun. But it is demanding, and requires some commitment.
So thanks to anyone who makes an effort. And thanks especially to those who have made themselves very good at commanding.

Thanks all!

I wish more commanders would realize it was more than bling. The best way to do that is to recognize when it is needed and when it should not be on.

For me: if I know an event down to what each NPC will say to signal an attack in PVE it (or the mentor tag) can go on. If I am in wvw though …. well, I am pretty much a newb there so if it is on I am in the foyer shortcutting back to LA and I forgot it.

Season 3 portals

The portals never make sense to me in season 3, there is no consistency except the portal scrolls.

ep 1 – no portal
ep 2 – no portal
ep 3 – portal that all of your characters can enter with
ep 4 – portal that only character(s) that have done the story can enter with

I know all about the lore excuse with ep 4 …. ‘but, but …. the guard does not have PERMISSION to let your other characters in’. Ok, explain the ep 3 portal then. I submit ep 3 and ep 4 should be the same as far as whether other characters on your account can use it or not. Obviously all using it is prefereable (the player does not learn anything new doing the same instance multiple times) but uniformity is the key thing.

I don’t see how introvert you are when you are willing to start a thread about it.

Fun fact about introverts. Introverts have little to no trouble with text based communications, it’s only face-to-face group settings (like parties and things) that introverts struggle with. It’s not uncommon for introverts to be extremely outspoken in online communities, and more often than not be more outspoken than the extroverts. Social Media for example was actually a introvert creation that was initially populated by introverts, until all the extroverts had to get involved.

Not just social media, even IRC. It was created in Finland. Anyone who knows any Finns can tell you we are not exactly raging extroverts (well, heavy metal concerts are the exception).

I imagine this would be really easy to implement too

Sigh… As a game programmer, this sort of comments make me feel like this

You get that with all kinds of programming. Every time a user wants some change and says ‘this should be simple, just…’ I just assume their estimated time for writing/testing the feature is off by at least a magnitude and will probably have unanticipated results.

Yeah. A lot of the time though, you can at least see why something would logically seem easy to a layperson though. In this case unless you are completely baffled by the general capabilities of computers this one should seem obviously hard.

There’s a good reason as to why customers should never set the engineering scope.

True of all fields. The phrase ‘this should be easy’ should be banned if you do not have experience in the field. Often VERY specialized experience as, oh, the preferred text editors for web programmers may not be the same as the preferred text editors for game programmers.

We are looking at why this could not be done, maybe how to do it if the company said it was their #1 2017 priority? My guess would need almost a complete rewrite of the engine, hopefully utilizing existing graphics/sound resources.

I would be skeptical that they could pull it off by the end of 2017, it would be a multi year effort most likely. Any one of the many things that would need to be added would take a ton of time. As an example of one, the OP mentioned bringing back the heroes / henchmen idea as an easy way to make up for not having other players. They were in GW1, GW2 game engine is based of GW1 engine, should be easy! Only in GW2 we have full 3d movement, unlike GW1. The maps were designed to be navigated by a party of players, not NPCs. The AI and map work to get henchmen to be able to accompany you in a competent way would be huge. I am picturing taking a henchman party through a jumping puzzle with combat for example.

True, when I said a 2017 priority I meant either a ‘do as much as we can this year’ or ‘start in 2017’ or ‘you now have infinite resources …. go’. I probably should have clarified that it was a hypothetical exercise to think about the opposite way of looking at it.

Using the AI would be work even if that were the only thing. I have lost count of how many times my ranger pets have started attacking fires in Doric.

With the nodes I have (the 3 in hot, the 4 so far in LS3, wintersday tree, and candycane) it seems the best layout is the human instance. The charr is not bad one you know where everything is except that you need to go under a platform to get the petrified wood.

Hm. How so? The entire GW2 world and system file is already downloaded on everyone’s computer, taking up a nice 30 GBs.

You are downloading assets, not what those assets do. What they do is a function of what other people (both NPCs and players) do.

You could create (non-trivially) an instance that looks like some zone, yes. Said instance would be VERY boring though as there would be no mobs, bosses, dynamic events, or even most hearts. Unless your idea of fun is running around gathering POIs I am not sure what the point is of static instances.

Actually, I would like proper maps, assuming you mean like central tyria. I will take the gathering maps over jumping puzzles though. Assuming no other ascended items like armor (although I am guessing each of the LS3 maps will have a backpack) all of the ascended trinkets we can currently get from enough existing gathering maps to outfit our characters without running into the issue of things being unique.

I can see arguments for and against doing updates. I just always feel like going ‘err, btw ….’ to minions when I go into Orr though.

When people say ‘old LA’ are you talking pre-destruction LA or the LA during the rebuilding period? From what I remember the scenes I saw in LA looked like the rebuilding era but it may just be that I never saw the pre-destruction version so did not know what to look for.

In Black Desert you need to craft tea that warms you up in the night, you need to take water with you and drink regularly etc. when you are in the desert – that’s a really nice, immersive concept I’d like to see somehow in GW2.

Needing to craft something daily to avoid freezing? Gee, maybe we should try it as that is something really new and I am sure it would go down well.

SilverWaste botting problem

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Menadena.7482

Reporting them is the best path, but just to check … you are sure they are actually botting, not just players who do this a lot, right?

One of the things I think FFXIV does super-well is that they publish a monthly report on the number of actions taken from reports. Knowing that they actioned 14,000 instances of “bad” behaviour, and banned 6,500 accounts, over the last month … kind of brings home, among other things, the scale of the issues they are dealing with.

If ANet published the same sort of numbers it would certainly clarify if the report option did anything or not.

I was doing silverwaste today, and there really was a serious botting problem, alot of them DO speak but they just say the most random things that do not pertain to what anyone is saying on the map. After VW was finished an accused bot said " any legs up?.

Did you ever think he was shortening legendaries? and was asking if any legendaries were up to kill? geez people at first I was taking this serious but come on I’ll be surprised if I haven’t been reported too cause after work some weeks when I get a few days home I dont want to talk to a single soul especially on a game. So unless I get drunk and start talking that might be all you get out of me “any legs up?” in any other reference I would not be on a game.

There is a wide variety of cultures too. In some people talk endlessly while in others silence is practically a virtue. I grew up in the Finnish culture, so do not think anything is odd if I played an entire session without ever once using any of the chat functionality.

Game play varies too. Some people are insulted if they are not thanked for rezzing in the middle of a fight. Me? I wish they wouldn’t try, at least until they are healed up above 80% first, because that means I will be risking my life to rez them again.

Thanks, I missed 4 since I never set up boxes to use the mouse/keyboard when the other machine is using them anyway. Multibox is terribly handy for doing daily logins with an alt account when logging out your main/logging in your alt/logging out your alt/logging in your main would be MUCH longer.

The thing to remember is just because a person is dual-boxing using a shared keyboard control does not mean they are botting.

Which would also be an offense that could lead to a ban.

BZZT. Dual-boxing is allowed. If the controls operate both accounts at the same time …. well, there has not been a ruling, but if not it is the same as if you had two computers on your desk.

While more communication is always good I expect they learned their lesson. The official announcement will most likely be pretty close to the release.

ESO was what, 4 months? It is like they absorbed what was done wrong in HOT and used that as their plan.
