New players are being encouraged to rush

Way too much is locked behind 80 now to tell new players to take it slow. When did they last release any major permanent content that did not require an 80? LS2? Core Tyria? Even those had level 80 areas. Just for something most people almost take for granted now, basic gliding and autoloot, you need an 80. Before HOT you could legitimately advise newbies to take it slow for the first character or two but now …

Thanks, When I saw the price I looked up a couple T6 mats on one of those sites. It did not show it hugely down (although not way up either) but I thought I had usually gotten much more before so wondered where my error was. I am guessing I sold a few at a time and was thinking of the total price. Nice to see it is not like 1/4 the normal price or something.

Yea i notice, lot of mats are getting so cheap almost worthless, better to throw away. I think is due to now with berries and so many maps full of events people get too many mats for salvaging gear (wood, cloth, leather) and the supply keeps going up so prices will fall. The only thing still kind of expensive is T6 leather because there is still not a way to get it easily. Even T6 mats i think have gone down in price a bit. Now i am no economist, i hate all that actually but no idea if this is good or bad.

T6 mats have gone WAY down!!!!!

I usually sell my laurels for T6 mat bags then convert that to gold. I waited a good long time to have a lot of bags all at once …… then was shocked when I saw how little they now sold for. The fact most were common drops in the labyrinth did not help either though.

edit: Maybe I have my numbers wrong since I do not pay close attention. Anyone want to correct me?

Why is auto-loot gated behind masteries

It does make a difference to other people around you though. The ‘f’ is the interact button. I hate hate hate commanding a squad and having someone prematurely interacting with an object. Usually the excuse given is ‘oh, they were just collecting their loot’.

People can easily avoid that, by using only AoE looting and mapping that to a unique key.

They are obviously just trolling the rest of the squad. Saying they hit ‘f’ to do something else gives them just enough credibility for some people to defend them.

Hitting f is not a huge chore. Everyone here pre-hot did it. For a certain amout of time afterwards as you at least needed to get the XP. It is handy but not impossible.

Do you want a button that unlocks all legendaries, gives you 150AR, fully unlocked wvw skills and a ‘press to win’button for pvp?

Cheat codes are googled pretty often! So yes, I defy you to find someone here who would turn down automatic legendaries!

But to the point I play games to have fun. That definition of fun changes somewhat when you are talking multi-player vs single player though. For example, APs would be pretty much “what is the point” if everyone in the game could have however many they wanted. At the same time though, I consider it a child’s game to compare who has more of them.

You can actually get to a lot of the jungle floor in VB without gliding. It may be a route that makes you want to put your fist through something (hence why the map was not popular) but it is still doable. There are a bunch of events that take place near the entry point though, so if you do not feel like exploring just stay in that area until you have basic gliding.

The last level of gliding is 12 points. Some people who have it have complained it puts up barriers to travel they would not have without it so I do not worry about ‘only’ having the level before it.

Admittedly the mastery system itself is confusing at first but you do not need gliding to get one level of xp. Just do the events you can get to and gliding will unlock more.

You do jump the same height/distance whether you tap the space bar or hold it down. You’ll just have to adjust to tapping space bar when you don’t want the glider to come out.

I admit that I am having trouble adjusting to this. I have a habit of holding down the spacebar while jumping (I guess because sometimes I’m holding the [fwd] key).

Still, it’s not that hard to teach myself new tricks.

30 years later… mario is so ingrained in your mind… tap jump for small jump, press and hold to jump farrr

Pretty much what I was thinking. I have had that ingrained since the 80s. Some jumps being easier than others in GW2 does not make that habit easier to break too.

playing a new race and their personal story which would involve buying more character spaces.

Again as others have stated, the personal story mastery points can only be earned once. Doing it again on another race will not reward more points. That said, I do wish they would add more mastery points to core.

Plus more mastery tracks. I have pact commander maxed, do not run fractals, and have no plans to forge a legendary any time soon.

If they would introduce more mastery points to the core game, I wouldn’t mind. But the points I need to to complete the only mastery left are tied to personal story repeats and a lot of activities that are nothing more than a grind.
They have added new points to the living story, how about making the next few batches red instead of green.

There are no Mastery Points tied to Personal Story ‘repeats’. One can earn 8 Mastery Points (1 for each Level arc), and 8 MPs only.

Perhaps, you are confusing the Personal Story with the Living World Episodes.

Sorry, mixed up the story label. (but playing the personal story with races I haven’t used would also qualify—but would have to buy character slots). But the point is when I look at what I need to get 8 more MPs, I see nothing but grinds, obscure collections, repeating each episode many times for a to get 1 point. A few more points added to the core game maps would be easy to do. My mistake was picking the legendary mastery with my MPs instead of the auto-loot.

Doing the PS on another race does not give you more points. The wiki goofed how they said that at first and I went back and forth with support for months trying to find my ‘missing’ points.

Developers stated that they debated internally whether or not to add autoloot at all, because automating frequently used actions like this makes botters jobs easier and the security teams job harder.

And in the end locking it behind a mastery was the compromise they came to.

That makes sense. Still though, I would have preferred to see it maybe a level of MPs earlier. A bot will not get there but it would not hold up humans who have put time in in any mode. Getting the MPs for that last level was not automatic because I do plenty of PVE but had skipped the living story (I came in partway through season 2 so it was a what-is-the-point).

Huh? I thought once one character got there all your characters got in so you do not have to repeat the story? You mean they found ANOTHER way to gate it? Kitten.

Why would they make part of the LS account bound?

Well they did make the ability to collect unbound magic account bound…

Which has nothing to do with the story. The stories have always been character bound. Loot and such varies and the choices made for specific ones, such as unbound magic, are separate from that made for the story.

If you do the PS or LS with a character you only get an achievement for doing it once, not twice. For example, you do not get both the achievements for doing the norn PS and the charr PS.

In the first two chapters the big thing was access to the zone. They sold teleport scrolls so you you only had to do it with one character. It was my understanding that once one character could use the zone portal for the chapter 3 zone any of your characters could.

True, in chapter 2 if you do not have the dwarf thumb you can not get into the area with the head but that is hardly something major. After you do the story there is not much need to go in there again unless you want to wake the skritt that are there.

Other than organized maps, in my experience VB is pretty bad at being filled with a bunch of people doing their own little thing (usually on their way to map completion)

It is those kittening adventures. Recently I went there for a VB daily and almost everyone on it was doing the adventure daily. It was a slog for awhile (with people complaining about the adventure) but eventually we all started going to the same events so we could get our 4.

Adventures have to be among the worst thing that happened to HOT maps. Only surpassed by crashing after spending over an hour doing a meta.

Yeah, it should be like in Heart of Thorns’ story, few hints to explore, but story covers our journey if it is like in Bloodstone Fen or Ember Bay.

I also like doing stories/parts of stories when I want to do them. Not ‘I need to do part of this story so I can play with the new stuff’ or ‘I need to finish this chapter before the next chapter comes out’ (which also means less people are around if you need help because they already moved on).

Labyrinth tips/gripes

If you are commanding a squad, and someone not in your squad opens a door before you get to it, don’t automatically assume they are trolling. They might be in a different squad, or just be playing on their own. Your squad does not have exclusive rights to the map.

I am talking when a bunch of people are running to a door and the first person to get there triggers it. Or when a group is doing a viscount fight and someone opens the door next to it. Since it does not report who opened the door I usually can not say for certain it was someone in the squad if multiple people were near it but I do know it was someone running with the group.

I have seen deliberate trolling with other people opening doors when a group is not around. The details are unimportant but I was not talking about that.

Oh, and there is no reason to have more than one tag per lab map. I tagged up once last year and had missed there was already a tag on the map. Then rightly got dressed down for doing so because I was making the farm less efficient. If you think it is a status thing? After a week of lab runs pretty much any commander is more than happy to let someone else command.

If you do fight the Viscount either use reflect skills to protect yourself from his ranged attack or stand in the candy pools to get a special reflect skill. But watch the boon because if it builds up to 10 stacks it will knock you down, so get to 8 or so and then move out. (This used to be common knowledge but I guess since people aren’t fighting him as much it’s been forgotten.).

Thanks, I have heard to stand in the goo for stability but nothing about the 10 stacks knocking you down.

Since we have another week left I figured I would pass on some observations from someone commanding runs and that I have picked up while someone else was commanding.

Squad up. Squad up. Put up a command tag if there is not one on your map and put up a LFG (people will join you fast). Oh, and did I mention to squad up?

Find out the current common knowledge. Last year Lich was a royal pain. This year: skip the viscount because it takes too long for the reward. You can better better loot with a large crowd running and spamming weapon skills at every passing mob so time is not your friend.

The more people near a door when it is triggered the higher it will scale so the better the reward. There always is someone that will trigger a door when they first get to it (with the party a few secs behind them) for some reason, maybe they think they will get extra credit?

You do not want to fight 2 bosses at once and you especially do not want to fight 3. If you ignored the advice about skipping the viscount do the other door (if it appears) first as someone will trigger it during the fight. Also The Labyrinthine Horror appears every 20 minutes so keep an eye on the clock.

When waiting for your party at a door kill the nearby mobs. Not only is it free loot but they get in the way during the fight.

There are a lot of spiders that rez near the nw corner of the map. They appreciate some AOE attacks when you are running by.

Any other suggestions for people?

Perhaps disable hard-cap full maps from appearing on LFG?
A problem not exclusive to TD, having half the squads on LFG not actually permit joining kind of defeats the purpose.

You cannot post an LFG for a dungeon/fractal group that has 5 members (full), and notably the existing advertisement is taken down automatically when the group is filled. Something that turns off LFG for filled overworld maps would improve the LFG tool by quite a lot tbh.

I don’t own HoT and completely agree that this would be a huge QoL improvement. Having to manually join 10 different squads for The Mad King’s Labyrinth and finding that all of them are full maps was just a waste of time. I’d imagine the stakes are higher for maps with non-trivial events tied to specific timers.

Having a listing expire in some way would be ideal. For example, I lead squads in the lab. Usually when someone whispers to me that the lab is full I am busy doing a dozen things at once already (I like it when I can just join another cmdr’s squad but will command if nobody is already there) so even pressing a button in lfg will not get done.

They will stay as safe zones for people relax in when they don’t feel like fighting horrible monsters, but any of the other parts of the world are free to be attacked and changed in different ways.

Yes, it would probably be something like another zone connected to it. Two of the areas (norn and charr) have that already but the other 3 have only 1. Since we just did Maguuma my money is on something next to/under DR if something like this were to happen.

Same here, I love having the option to play it. I do not like being punished for not playing it. Sure, it only takes a second to figure out, but if you are actually doing something (crafting, sorting inventory, whatever) it is frustrating to have something decide you are part of the event and toss you around like a rag doll. Cities are safe spaces and should be so. Why not just confine the range of MKS to something reasonable?

No Halloween Nodes / Doors in Core Tyria?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Menadena.7482

Menadena.7482

After reading another post about a f2p player who got into the labyrinth and didn’t know how to leave it occured to me that this might be the reason. The portal leads to LA and that is blocked to f2p below level 35. WvW is blocked until they have a level 60. They might not have a guild or the guild might not have a guild hall so they might be blocked that way. That leaves PvP and if they are low level they might not know that they can leave from the PvP lobby, how to get there or how to leave once they do. Plus restrictions on map chat and whisper might mean they can’t speak to anyone to ask or if they do ask those people don’t know either. So maybe it’s because of the possibility of players getting stuck in the labyrinth that low level maps don’t have doors.

You think that was strange I encountered someone who just rolled an account in Ember Bay who had used a TP to friend. Somehow they did not have any waypoints in central tyria (I am guessing they did it while the initial intro was playing). Unfortunately they logged out while a couple of us were trying to figure out what they could do.

They already have pretty much the same trying to walk from the SW to VB. Connecting BF to VB would be obvious near the village. I am not sure about where EB would connect but presumably Orr since they were moving the fire islands anyway. No need for a story unlock, if you owned HOT you could use the gates.

Think about it looking at HOT itself. While we needed to do the prequel to get into VB you did not need to do any more of the story to get into the other zones.
