Mastery rank is less important to me than level, it’s just another way of saying my X is bigger than your Y. No point in displaying it at all.
It is pretty pointless as well. It does not say which masteries you have. You can assume they grabbed gliding, bouncing mushrooms, and probably the ones in LS3 ….. but after that it is a complete mystery unless they have all of them. They could even not have stepped food in the HOT zones at all and all the points are for CT things.
At least the NPCs are not as bad as they have been sometimes. For example, last season Rytlock and some other Charr were building a device against ghosts during a battle (they were pretty much useless in fighting them). Not only did the device not help but it hindered me. Instead of going ‘oops, our bad’ and shut it down they just let it be.
Okay, it’s a bit of a bait here and quite a long shot, but still. Given the Mechanic from a certain Story Quest, it would be possible to design something like this. Would you like to see something like this? A possibility to fight people from your Server without beeing in sPVP?
No. The day PVE means PVP is the day I find a new game.
Hmm Taimi’s Game was pretty easy … on a reaper anyway. You know there is a thing to get rid of all the fire on the ground right?
I have no disability except not having played platformers or any twitch-based games before GW2, and Taimi’s Game was hard for me. I was sooo happy that they put checkpoints in the instance so that I didn’t have to start over from the beginning every time I died. Yes I knew about the strategies and tactics, I’m just bad at twitch-games. If Anet had added these checkpoints to the boss fights of the Personal Story and Living Story, I might have actually completed one of the storylines by now instead of giving up!
Anyway, I can’t imagine how someone with a hand disability plays – kudos to the OP!
Tell me about it! I can count on one hand when I have broken any armor before getting it repaired and this instance was the first time that broke everything. After that buying the zone scroll immediately was a no-brainer right after I made sure that character had the waypoint.
My congrats to the OP as well. The idea people came up with of teaming up is the best solution, I try to solo as much as possible but there are times you need multiple people.
Want! Want! Want!
A good example of this is in Second Life. Not only can you right click someone to see their profile but you can do it with objects as well. For example, here we would right click on a buff item to see the profile of the group that put it out for everyone. The ability to do it with our characters would solve 99% of the use cases though.
You don’t have to do wvw for badges as they still drop from AP chests.
Or just do part of your daily in wvw once in awhile. It is not like you need a lot of badges.
To get the 300 gold I just bought some gems and did a conversion. I did not want to dip into my ingame balance at the time and it was only like $20 or $30.
Yep you can get the same stats as everyone else. You miss out on some different skins.
You should check out the two maps added with the living story. Bloodstone Fen does have a lot of vertical space but it is all open area. Ember bay is all flat for the majority of the map.
Yes, I have not done much more gliding there so far than I do in the core maps.
Yesterday was understandable: patch today. This evening the server is still having problems though. Random freezes, crashes.
yeah, they count as HoT maps, but still doesn’t solve the problem of wanting to level HoT materies while doing events and stuff in Central Tyria.
And that is to keep the HoT maps relevant, to keep a steady level of activity in those maps. Core Tyria maps are infinitely easier to walk around in than HoT maps. The nature of most people would make it so they take the path of least resistance, i.e. levelling HoT masteries in core Tyria maps. In my opinion ANet did the right thing by separating these two.
It does not make a lot of sense though. By starting FTP, keeping FTP out of hot zones, and creating mentor tags they pretty much are saying they want at least some existing players in CT. Yet then there is a handicap to those vets doing what anet is basically telling us to do?
There are HOT hero points that are commune-only or close too it: see Dulfy for a list. Even after getting a HP people still do it for the XP. They also may be running them for one of their alts.
The only time I have called out in mapchat to do a specific HP and several people did not arrive ASAP they were either all at another one (waypoint there and get that one if you need it) or were all doing the meta (wait or just hop maps).
Last night in LA a seller was repeatedly spamming mapchat constantly. I had to wonder how many reports they got before the account was shut down.
I did find that curious …. when the major ‘wall’ was broken with gliding why even have a difference between the 2 types of masteries anymore (also since autoloot via pact commander already works in hot zones)? Most of the masteries require some object inworld (mushrooms, vendors, poison, etc) so it would not be like they were opening a free-for-all. At the same time, it would not matter where you trained them up.
Sure, I can play in hot zones. I like to mentor though and now when I am helping the game doing content I consider slow I can not at least level up a hot mastery.
This will be an interesting day because those of us on macs will have both a new OS and a new episode to download this evening. Anyway, yes, they typically come out sometime in the morning to midday in the US. I am not aware of a set schedule but if you are at/going to work/school now it will be ready for you when you get home.
I am more than happy to let the min/max people get away from the rest of us and hang out in raids or such. Unfortunately they insist on bringing their gaming culture everywhere, like gaming missionaries forcing their ideas on everyone.
The problem is when people like you force their way into raids, for example, when there are already some min \ max players…
Care to try again? The closest I have come to there is the aerodome to get the waypoint for LA completion. I have absolutely no problem with people suggesting things for a new PVE build when asked. In fact I often ask for it myself to see if the current thinking has changed due to nerfs since I last leveled that profession. What I do have a problem with are min/maxers getting in mapchat or such and criticizing builds people are using just fine, especially when they have no intention of raiding or have not stated what mode they want it for.
No to artificial slowing. If you want it done fast do it fast. If you want it done slowly there are plenty of natural break points.
Build wars!
person 1: You HAVE to do (X) in your build or you are a noob.
person 2: You HAVE to do (not X) in your build or you are a noob.
player: sigh

After dailies? Hit up my home’s nodes if I did not already do it. Then log off and watch some tv before sleep.
No, it isn’t anything like that. It is the equivalent of buying a Land Rover and then wondering why only 3 of the 4 windows go down. Then the dealership says they can add the ability to make the 4th window go down for a few thousand dollars more.
If you want to go down that route, one could say that in an alternate universe, all cars come with 3 windows. You (I’m assuming you are against having the invisible shoes, apologies if I’m wrong), on the other hand, who owns a bicycle, points out that it’s unfair since cars and bikes are all methods of transportation, why should it be that cars are 100x more expensive? The answer to that question: It is designed that way. It’s not like somewhere out there there’s someone who has an “all toggle-able character.”
Edit: To address my example from earlier, I’m simply implying that people who are complaining here are mostly players who WANT it, but CAN’T buy it. You can go out of your way to say im wrong, but deep down, you know the answer to it as well.
I assume you mean other games/virtual worlds do not have the ability since GW2 does not have everything toggleable anyway?
Second Life. You can hide your entire character from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
Hello everyone,
I’d just like to say that PVE has been getting constantly nerfed. When the game first launched, we could actually enjoy mildly difficult PVE content, whether it was the world bosses, the dungeons or the fracatls. But now? Everything is EASY!!! Fire Elemental is one of the most killed World Bosses and now it literally takes 20 seconds to kill!
When I play a game, I’d like to be at least slightly challenged. This is one of the main reasons I NEVER pve anymore.
With the addition of PVE raids, I’m starting to be able to enjoy good content again, as it actually takes training, focus and mastery to get through the raids. PLEASE don’t nerf that too!! I’m so scared of them nerfing raids as well!
What do you guys think? Should PVE be kept easy and not challenging, or should they slightly bump up the difficulty level, so that we don’t just steamroll through everything and look at PVE like just another mob farm fest? Thank you for reading
You do realize FE is in a starter area, right? If you want a more challenging boss do something in a higher level zone, like the recently reworked dragon in Charr territory that always has kittens.
I do not go telling people that play other content that their stuff should be changed when it does not impact me.
Just because it’s a starting area, does NOT mean it should be face-roll easy. It is called WORLD boss for a reason! It should take a world to kill one, because it’s supposed to be difficult! Not just run in, tag boss, and you’ve got free rewards.
A world boss is just a term, bosses in starter areas are designed for around level 15. You do not HAVE to do them. If you do not like FE do one of the harder bosses.
Except mobs in HoT aren’t immune to melee damage so the comparison isn’t the same. Plus, I found HoT mobs easier in melee with only a few exceptions.
The difference with adapting is that builds are not easily transferable here. Changing your stats and weapon and armour and traits for a series of story episodes and open world encounters is not really what GW2 is all about. It is right that such adaptation is necessary for pvp, wvw, fractals, dungeons, Liadri etc, but it would be an enormous mistake to force more casually minded players into changing things up when they suddenly become handicapped.
I understand the argument some are saying about keeping the burning immunity, but to not have some sort of mitigation against this is just folly. Whether that is a mastery, or whether that is making other conditions more powerful, I’m pretty sure Anet will have thought ahead on this one.
Hmm, a mastery would be interesting. Did anyone else notice that the new mastery we are getting is 3 points, not 2?
Condi burn druid rip
Condi burn engi rip
Condi burn guard rip
Condi burn war rip
Condi burn ele ripIf mobs will have immunity to burn, it will be a big mistake
Classes do.not need to burn things to do damage. Go power stay happy, or I don’t know, use other conditions besides burn. There are many out there,
RIP player intelligence.
It will be like trying to melee in HoT before you know what to expect, I quickly changed to a rifle on my warrior in HoT so I’d last longer, as untill I found out what worked Vs some mobs it was better to have a back up of range them down.
Adapted and over come, stay stagnant and die.
Exactly. My goto ranged on my warrior is LB but when I am fighting the megadestroyer I change to a rifle (with much grimacing but it is not like I have a choice). There are some build changes I can not do on short notice (quick! the zerker meta is no longer!) but some I can. For example, I make a habit of usually carrying one (or 2 if it can use either hand) of every weapon I can use on a character just so I have those weapon skills if I need them.
So I remember before getting Heart of Thorns, every 256000 or so EXP, I’d get a Spirit Shard on a level 80 Character.
But now that I’ve got HoT, I’m stuck with masteries that I cannot get due to lacking of achievements and this is my last mastery line, does that mean that the exp earned is wasted? Or is it still being tracked in a hidden counter?
Whether or not you used to get shards for XP, once you cap the Masteries you WILL get shards for XP. Except those of us who apparently will never cap Masteries. For us, our XP is just wasted. When you see an XP award for killing a mob, it is a lie. That XP is going nowhere.
That is a huge frustration. Those who feel they have to do those MPs get the reward of the masteries. I do not see a pressing need to get most of the higher tiered masteries any time soon thank you, but they do the work and get a reward, I am fine with that. With the shards though, they are getting rewarded TWICE.

I do not go telling people that play other content that their stuff should be changed when it does not impact me.
For HOT hero points I just map chat if anyone else wants to do them after that map’s meta and get near the point. Usually a bunch of people do. Also do not forget central tyria HPs, even though they are only worth a 1/10 as much.
When I heard about the legs and arms I was interested as it could mean more disabled characters. Seeing the implementation though I am not so sure.
I like being in a safe place. Secondarily one where I know where things are and have everything I could need. So most of the time this means LA. I did log off from the waypoint above the main pact encampment in VB last though because I wanted to continue some stuff I was doing there.
I tried using the mentor tag the way it’s supposed to be used. But everyone just assumes it’s a commander tag and starts following me for no reason or ask why I’m not leading events.
I like the concept of a mentoring system, but the implementation is less than ideal.
Yes, I would like to see a mentor system too. If a new person (or someone new to the event) sees an indication of a mentor that person should be both approachable and knowledgeable (or at least know how to find out the information they need).
It certainly needs a rework. When I get on a low-level map (and I will be there longer than it takes me to do a daily) I will act like a mentor: greet new people in /map, give tips I wish I knew starting out, party up with new people who are completely lost. From the reactions I get in map chat from knowitalls I am guessing that is unusual.
I wish the mentor tag was removed altogether. Most people just shamelessly abuse it to draw attention to themselves without having to obtain a proper commander tag. Since HoT release I’ve seen maybe 2 people, who used the tag the intended way and actually tried to help/mentor people. But in 99% of the cases they just use it as a cheap substitute of an actual tag.
It gets used for the TD meta and DS as well.
Are training people in the event or organizing it? If they are not just using it for a vanity tag, that and other bosses are a good use for a commander tag in PVE.
One of the things I like about Second Life: everyone shows up as a dot on the map. Want to know where the big event is? Look for where the dots are clustered.
Yes, I am getting frustrated too. I made my first rev an elite but it is sort of a hodge-podge rather than getting the best build. Now I rebuilt another revenant but was going to do it right this time. I got to 80, bought all my gear …. then discovered I pretty much needed herald in order to do much of anything. The frustrating thing is she will mostly be mentoring for now but wanted to at least be as fast as the people I am helping if nothing else!
I will never get why Eir didn’t transform into her animal form and jumped against that vinetooth to die fighting with theet and claws like any normal Norn would have done.
My Asura also said she died in battle. I think it is true, although is more like she died “during a battle” than she died “while fighting”.
To be fair, people would tell a white lie in that situation to make the person killed sound more noble.
…Memorial, is that when it tells you to “honor Eir however you want”, you really do not get to pick and choose. Talking to the individuals did not up the bar, only carving the ice sculptures, tending to Garm, and putting a flower at her statue were viable to fill up the bar. We do not get to honor “however we want”, in the end.
Honestly (and this would be an in-character thing for my toon), I wish that it could have given the option to drink from the ale (as well as eat food). Getting super drunk probably would have been my toon’s way of coping with the loss, as well as probably partying as a result. Alcohol is all over the game, and is even one reason why GW2 is rated Teen. So why couldn’t we have made our characters drink what we want during the memorial? Norn do it all the time, culturally-speaking.
Tending to Garm was before honoring, was it an option?
I typically started the person talking about when she was young while I carved the ice during her monologue and left 2 flowers for her.
I’m just hoping we get to travel there in a boat not some instant waypoint thing. I’d like to think its a massive journey to the islands. I want that epic vibe…
It reminds me of the docks area in Rata Sum. So maybe we’ll finally get to use them. Else it might just be a boat or something in LA, personally a little less interesting.
No matter the method I am just hoping it only involves our characters getting to BF to be good to get to the next zone. If every character we want to get there has to complete all of the first chapter and some of the second there will be a mass revolt from us altoholics!
Yeah, I rarely use my necro now precisely because of this. Not only are the minions ugly but they are the same ones every other necro uses. If I wind up foregoing a basic mechanic the class becomes a ‘what is the point’. It would be like running a ranger as-is without a pet and LB.
I like it ‘cause when I say “x on my tag” people know to look for a mentor tag – I’d actually like if the commander tag got chat titles as well: Green Commander, Blue Commander, Red Commander, etc, so on a map with 6 tags I don’t have to sit there in the map screen trying to figure who’s who.
This please!
Definately! Personally I find it quicker to hold down shift and click on the nearest WP but whatever people can type faster.
Do we know anything about how we will access the new zone? Are good if we can get to BF (maybe there is a tunnel)? Do we need to do all of the first part of LS3 (cue us altoholics all screaming)?
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Obsidian_Shard#Sold_by
And also from Silverwastes.
I’m assuming this is what you plan on using the karma for.
Yes, that is correct. I need obsidian shards
.
Just do SW. I get shards all the time there from doing stuff and opening chests. Use your karma there for scouting materials.
Thanks, Impossible Odds comes from Shiro (which is good since I have that legend). My other legend is Mallyx so know nada about Lightning Road ankitten ot finding it on the wiki either. It seems Mace 3 is not needed as I am talking about traversing areas, not combat leaps.
The only thing I can think to do with it right now is work towards the elite. Which is a real shame if you never intended to play it as an elite. It is like an intentional roadblock to using the character.
“Hmm, I am going slow, I will just look up what the trait is to address that (searches) …. Glint handles it so there is none.”
Yes, I had never even planned to go into HOT with this character, I have an elite rev if I need to do that and wanted one for central Tyria. Now I need to though in order to have a complete profession to play.
GW2 is a game, which means ultimately the point is to have fun, not to make gold.
Well that’s a matter of debate. Why? Two reasons:
1) Some people enjoy making gold and lots of it
2) GW2 is very gold centricPoint 1 doesn’t go for me but when you say that gold isn’t a goal in itself I think you kid yourself. It shouldn’t be, but the more gold a person has to more it’s just about reaching a higher number and that becomes the goal.
The second point does apply for me. It’s one of the things I think is a shame in this game. Things like legendaries that can be sold for gold instantly devaluate the bragging rights because it’s not longer a sure sign of achievement but could simply be bought with gold, which can be bought with really money. That’s just one example but gold is much more important than it should be in my view.
This makes no sense to me. As was said earlier gold in GW2 is just a counter. In some games the in-game currency can be converted to real currency (I am looking at you Second Life) so finding the best way to acrue in-game money is understandable. With GW2 gold though all you can do is buy digital items. Yes, it helps you with fashion wars and such, but beyond that it is just bragging rights. Like getting a good score on a video game.
That is my annoyance as well. I want my new revenant to be a ‘main’ but had no plans to make it an elite. Everywhere I look there are shortcomings that are solved with Glint though: speed, other traits, etc.
Thanks! Not even being able to heal underwater was REALLY annoying!
I was just coming here to post the same issue. I have Shiro and Malyx but my skills are blank, including my heals.
Welcome to GW2. It is a wonderful game. First tip is to just jump in and explore. You will begin in the starter area for what ever race you choose. There are not traditional quests like most MMOs. There are hearts tasks located on the map that kind of guide you to various areas around the map, vistas to discover, points of interest and also watch for dynamic events that pop up around all the maps. So the first tip I guess is to just start exploring and see what you discover.
Also here is a thread that may be helpful, it is a long read and some of the things mentioned have changed since it originated. However, there are still a lot of good tips.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OMG-If-you-only-knew-this-tips-for-new-players/
thanks a ton, im going to read that right now… ive hit lvl 13 which i know isnt very high, but i still have no direction :P
Welcome!
There is a lot to learn about your profession so take the time and enjoy exploring. Just wandering around at random with no idea of where the most stuff is (and not doing boosts like crafting) will probably advance you a level every couple of hours so you will be at 80 in no time. Look for people with apples or triangles over them … if they are doing it in PVE they will hopefully be open to questions (or just gather names of people in this thread). Good luck!
I like easy games but this game is too easy. This dampens everything else, building the strongest gear feels like a chore simply because it just doesn’t matter and the marriage between action and rpg was okay but diversity just isn’t there.
There are actual “best builds” and it’s very 1 size fits all. People haven’t changed gear in years. It’s the exact progression that was to be avoided, you just sit and wait until something better gets released, swap to that, then wait.
Make a tougher game not new timers or just pile hp and damage into stuff. I miss “thinking” about builds.
Come up with a challenge for yourself. A favorite one is to roll a low level character and get them to Arah. It will force you to REALLY think about your decisions!
There are some NPCs that do not have minis but I would buy them in a second. Taimi (we have Scruffy though). Sya.
Probably my favorite thing with a mini was when I had Teq out while getting ready to do Teq. A great way to accidentally troll your party: target it by mistake when Teq has not landed yet. Yes, I got called out for doing that, fortunately the event started because it was somewhat embarrassing.
I did quite a bit of multi-looting before LS3 launched and I had one very entertaining experience where I joined a squad to find the comm declaring that he was the most unforgiving kitten ever and that we should expect to be kicked without warning and with no reasons given and then listing more rules than usual. He was so OTT it was proper funny so I stuck around.
That is TOO funny. Usually when I am commanding something I am busy paying attention to many things at once (‘where are the NPCs we are guarding?’ ‘where are the mobs?’ ‘where is the squad?’ ‘where is my tag showing if more people need to be nearer the NPCs’ etc) so anything I type to the squad had better be VERY important.
If skill 5 was just a matter of buying the skill that would be one thing. It does not unlock to buy until you have the last level of gliding though. As someone who has not completed their masteries I have up to gliding5 but much more important things to spend MPs on before I save up for gliding6.
I wish it could have been optional or something though. I know at least one person that was triggered by it.
