I will be on a train at the time so hopefully they have good wifi. Is there anyone to give a whisper to or do we just hang around the center of Ebonhawke (maybe tag up?) and hope we are on the right shard?
The map tool just does not work well with the hot maps. It comes closest to being usable with AB though. It tries to show you your current level and the top level at the same time … with icons from lower layers shining through (the ^ and v do not tell you a lot since the distance is the distance from where you are, not how much up or down). Since in AB you rarely have map stuff showing at 2 levels at the same xy coordinates (and most of the stuff is on the same rough z level) the map makes a bit more sense once you know the places where it breaks down.
VB is almost there but it has those big chasms all over the place. It keeps feeling like it is half complete.
TD is just insane. I agree that you REALLY need wallows there.
I have yet to enter the dragon map so have no basis to judge that one.
I get the feeling that anet was giving us several completely different styles. That way they can judge what maps to do next. Personally, I would like to see them keep to maps like core tyria or AB.
“Okay, you will all want this for the mobs this boss spawns and I thought to buy a few ahead of time. One for you, one for you, one for …. KITTEN!!!!!!”
Activity lead Cassi in LA is not letting people into activities. I was surprised not to see this reported here as it is a daily.
It looks like I will start doing WVW ones or something now. Way too much different stuff is being put in there and if you do pve-only you can only skip one of them. Sure, add dungeons and stuff …. but put them in another track rather than pushing other things out.
Not only that but if you did not buy HOT you do not have to do the hot ones. They get replaced with an easier one in central tyria.
Is it just me that feels this way?
talked to her to not accept …. get an email each time
talked to her and accepted …. got extra missions I did not want and still get emails
bug, please fix
I am wondering if the dailies were less popular last night though? Not only did they add minidungeons but if you bought HOT rather than queensdale events you had to do tangled depths ones? I do my dailies in PVE and because of those two things it took me an extra hour (partly because I have not mapped TD).
Do you realize how easy it is to get an 80? Just by logging in, you will have enough tomes to insta-80 a character in 8 months (5 months if you select the tomes for your monthly chest). Note that is just logging in. Nothing that would gain experience at ALL. I do not assume other 80s have this vast knowledge of the game.
Minor note: The gold players make on the TP comes from other players. It’s not an inflation source because it’s not being generated by the TP.
More gold because of any reason it is an inflation source. That is what more currency in the system means.
We need high-technological futuristic armors and weapons so we can create characters that look like those in apple-seed or the ghost Nova/kerrigan from Starcraft.
boggles Umm, in case you did not notice this is not starcraft. Not even the same genre.
If that is your top priority play an Asura. They are about the closest you can get to being in SF looking without breaking everything. I also saw a suggestion on reddit in another thread to use mystic chromatic ooze on outfits for a shiny look.
So if anything people hoped to be in the patch is not there the claim it was removed is equally as valid as it was never going to be in? Remember you do not need to be detailed. Saying ‘feature X may be changed’ is ok with me …. it does not take in-depth research to see what the top complaints people are making about that feature are and guess you will do something about at least one of them.
Take a lesson from the BBC when it comes to new seasons of Doctor Who. They release a whole series of clues but they are incredibly vague. So much so that the majority of the time they do not spoil anything until they come on the screen. I am sure something or other was dropped and people justified the clue with something else. Oh, and it is always known some of those clues could be wrong too. They do not make people want the final product less, they heighten the desire to see the final product.
More guilds please. At least there is not as much of the 100% rep stuff now but if you have one guild for some content and another for another … 5 is way too little.
Of course people will always chime in that there are a whole 4 points more in central tyria than you need.
4 ???
There are 66 Central Tyria mastery points available of which you need 49.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery_point_unlocks
Are you accounting for the ones you do not get in the personal story for doing multiple races and orders? According to the wiki you get them then a footnote says it is per-chapter.
I would have to check the numbers. Some that are listed are not available (IE, if you do a PS with two different races you get less points than you will think you should).
Ok, who else here thought this thread would be about getting to Ft Trinity?
Of course people will always chime in that there are a whole 4 points more in central tyria than you need. Of course, that does not address that most likely you will have to grind content you do not like to get the number of points to max things as 4 points is not a lot of wiggle room.
No, I never look at map chat during a battle. I was not being passive-aggressive, that is SOP for when I enter a big battle. Think of it like how the military specifically designs jet kittenpits not to have too many alarms going off at once because they will get tuned out if not. Thank the idiots on other parts of the map that want to spam the map with things about their guild and such. I am way to busy to pick out the useful stuff that is said. If I am in a party or a squad I will turn to that as I know there is a high probability anything said in those windows will be things I need to see.
If I left map chat on it would do no good. I hyperfocus on a task at hand and do not even see chat during big boss battles, which is why I make sure to ask questions in advance if I need more information. I have done that boss since it changed, but I noticed people were all waiting in a different area now so was asking why before the action started.
Also something you may not have been aware of is that there is a world boss train these days, usually the fights are over well in advance of the next boss…but not always. There have been times when the zerg hasn’t arrived at Lowland Burns until after the dragon lands.
There were plenty of people there well in advance.
Ummm, the kitty-kat filter will not let me correctly type the name but this was today’s boss in ascalon ….. not the HOT meta. Good to know it is not just me encountering people doing this on map chat though.
Even with the new fight, 30m is still crazy early to try to grab a map for Shatterer. Do Teq or TT start gathering that early?
Yes.
But people who stare at their dps won’t read those quick instructions, so they can’t help out where they are needed :/
I do not stare at my dps. It is just something out of the corner of my eye to tell me something is wrong if I stop seeing movement.
My basic question is this. I arrived at a reasonable time before a daily boss to get a good map. I asked questions as the mechanics had changed but got no answers. Scrolling through chat from the fight later I could see people getting all kinds of upset that people were not ‘doing it right’. Is this normal for xhaterer now?
Ah internet, I love you. I come here asking about toxic map chat so people start blaming me because I do not read chat in battle.
My #1 thing to watch is a party or squad chat if I am in one and I make no excuses for that. The only reason I even had combat chat on at all this time was because I was standing somewhere different than normal and it was the fastest way to find my range while it started. My absolute last thing to watch is map chat during a fight. If you want a good map you need to arrive early so not talking at 30 minutes before the event is a pretty silly excuse. If people are asking questions then about the mechanics than do not be a johny-come-lately and yell after it starts that everyone is doing it wrong if you did not answer their questions.
What is the point of having comms open? It is not like I will have time to type anything, which is why I switch to combat …. if I want to know anything it will be ‘am I hitting this particular thing’. I could give a toss about what the actual number is. I would hide it to give me more screen real estate but occasionally the combat screen is handy, like when I am at extreme ranges. Which pretty much makes any of your damage numbers irrelevant?
No, social interaction is actually instructing people before the fight when you can be civil and they can ask questions. Not yelling at people during it for not doing it another way. Reread my post, I was asking people things before the fight and nobody was answering.
I had it happen one time just as we breached into tarir. People hopped. Half were inside and half locked outside …. fun times.
I arrived half an hour early. Seeing as I have only done it once since we got the new sha I was asking questions …. no answers, no instructions. When it started I switched over to the combat tab (my norm during a boss fight, I want to see if my hits are landing but no time for chit-chat). Afterwards I switched my tab back and saw how toxic the chat (really? ppl have time to talk during battle?) had been. All sorts of complaining people were not doing one thing or another. I was playing a ranger and one thing was that rangers were not doing such-and-such …. well, it would have been handy if I knew to do it.
Is hat always like that now in map chat? When I am commanding at a boss fight I instruct first. I am not saying I would not get a bit testy the 10th time I have said the same thing in prep and the fight was a few minutes away with nobody listening (“umm, ppl, if nobody does defense teq will fail”), but these are things nobody had said before the event started.
DPS meter = fastest way to get most of the players to leave …. map chat is already bad enough with telling people how to play
RP, guilds that share a common interest of some sort, RL friends, etc
How to say that now.. But aren’t you OSX and Linux guys not quite aware that “Windoze iz only for gaiming”? You are not the target group and things have changed.
So, if you want to do real work you only use a mac?
Some ppl at Infinite Loop are smiling. MS’s Office for Windows team is waiting for you in a random dark alley.
There has been next to 0 development on the ‘beta’ they gave us in 2012. It is a pretty open secret that it is a (pretty bad) wrapper to run windows stuff on macs so I am not sure why they insist on calling in a beta for this long, but hey. Anyway, they initially put some investment in as it is not freeware so I am not sure why they refuse to do so now. We have to put up with minimal graphics settings and crashing because of a memory leak in that old 32 bit wrapper.
Is LOH still doing mentoring? I seem to have been cleaned out at some point but am currently in 5 guilds anyway.
I would LOVE to see a realtime stats list. How many people on a server, various numbers for seeing where lag is coming from (my machine? the network? the server? the number of players?), and so on. A way to also reliably request to join a certain IP would also be handy in all sorts of ways.
I hate the HOT maps. The world map is of no use whatsoever.
<.<
One thing to note, if you’re running the core game on minimum graphics/settings, don’t buy HoT. Your computer won’t be able to handle it >.>
Well, it depends why they are minimum. I run it on minimum because their mac “client” is actually the PC client in a bad 32 bit wrapper with a memory leak.
as far as i know, A.net didn’t lie about the expansion… every single feature/content that i saw they announce made it into the game.
in the AngryJoe interview, they said loud and clear that “this is a feature focused expansion instead of a content focused one”, so everyone who bought HOT knew exactly what they were getting.
if you put it on your mind that there would be a thousand hours worth of content, a 50-hours story or 20 different maps, even though they never even hinted at anything like that, then you have nothing to complain about…
They spent all this time talking about the new professions. They spent absolutely no time talking about how much it would cost. Their opening big of 400 HPs was beyond insane. Even at their revised number to us altoholics is an insane grind. Sure, I will get there eventually but from what they said it sounded like I could spend that time playing with the elite skills not getting them.
The masteries is a major mass-up as well. The whole system of getting them AND the xp is just another grind. Especially getting the points in central Tyria because you are unable to get the # from your personal story as you calculate from reading the wiki and there are no ‘easy gets’ like the HOT zones where you can just commune for them.
Have you tried creating a party with people? Not only will you have a better chance of being in the same instance but you will have another chat channel to use.
“Give us an option to ignore all whispers/mails sent by people above a certain AP threshold.”
:)
Gold sellers typically steal accounts, so an ap threshold will not help you. Where are you getting all this gold seller spam? I get some ….. about 1/1000 of the spamming for guilds though.

I consider the hour pretty generous (even if it is annoying) …. better than a message that the system is restarting in 5 minutes. It would be nice to be able to rearrange things but I do not have a good suggestion of how to do that with all the moving pieces.
two words:
caps
lock
Solution: figure out a way to give me your ‘useless’ hero points!
What is the balance argument if everyone has access to the same mounts, all that travel at the same speed? The closest thing I can think of is if a stock mount gives you, say, 40% extra speed but if you do something 99% of the game does not do you get 60% (cue ‘play the game’ cries from the 1%).
What really annoyed me was the MPs they award for tyria doing the personal story are based on chapters, not what you have done. Do all the races? Do all the orders? Good for you, but you only get credit for the first one that did a chapter. I can see it making sense that the second Asura do do the first 3 chapters should not get more mastery points. Your 1st Charr after that Asura should though.
Silly me, I fell for the ‘play your own way’. Fractals? Hate em. JPs? Yow. Personal story? Well, it looks interesting so I will give it a try. How was I to know I would be punished for putting my effort into playing what they were hyping rather than what they later gave lots of MPs for.
it sounds like the best odds are to get the JP chests though?
Ack … I am lousy at JPs but knew I had saved it from when one of my characters had been teleported so I could do the wintersday collection.
That is not what I am seeing though. It is in the bank and when I put my pointed over it all I see is “mysterious grubby package …. soulbound to another character” in the popup. Right-clicking it just gives me options to use (which I can not do) or destroy.
I have a souldbound item that I put it my bank but I have no idea which of my characters owns it. I looped through all of my characters and it came up ‘this item belongs to another character’ for everyone. Most probably oI made a mistake somewhere along the way but is there an easier way to tell who owns it?
Outside of beta characters I have only deleted a character once. That was when I made something in a normal character slot rather than a beta slot so she was not around long enough to have obtained and banked the item in question.
If by some oddity it was that character what can I do? It is a mysterious grubby package so I am not sure why it would not just be account bound anyway.
If you followed their manifesto though (play your own way) and did not emphasise the things they over-rewarded like fractals you are out of luck with mastery points though. Not only are they arbritrary, but they do not even make sense. Until the pact the a charr/order of whispers PS has nada to do with an asura/priory one … so why should I not get credit for both?
From what I can tell, both testing before and after HOT, I am only getting credit on the PS once as far as MPs go (I did all races but norn before, but did not get them with my norn after as well). That would be expected if it were the same story but with a different race and order it is a completely different story until the pact level.
That is what, a dozen MPs I did not get that any sane person would agree I should have gotten. Meanwhile if I were chasing down HOT ones it would be easy-peasy.
Just as a heads up, the Mastery Points for Personal Story are awarded on a per-chapter basis. So once you complete Chapter 1 and earn the Achievement for it, you’ve earned the Mastery Point for Chapter 1. This includes each different starting storyline: I believe the right names are: Graduation Day, For The Legion!, Crime and Punishment, Rising to the Challenge, and Waking from the Nightmare. Similarly, whichever Order you join, there’s just one Mastery Point there.
Hopefully this helps clarify the total number of Mastery Points you should be expecting from your previous accomplishments in Tyria. That said, the different stories really are fantastic, and should definitely be experienced, but for your own pleasure, and not for Mastery Points.
If any of you still think you are missing MPs from Achievements you’ve completed, let us know via the in-game Bug Report tool and we’ll try to identify if there’s a bigger issue happening.
Please please please say that this will be revisited!
I have been going back and forth with support trying to figure out why I have much less MPs than the wiki had said. Everything I have not gotten yet is a royal pain and/or a gold sink. Over a year in the game, several hours a day, 9 characters, and I can not complete pact commander? Really?
Even before the change if I saw a rep requirement I would run far, far away. They were saying their guild was not good enough that I would not WANT to rep it if I was given the choice. If they were for a specific thing (WVW, TT, etc) then it made sense to require it for those occasions but in general?
