You should also remember there were a lot of players calling for HoT to have dailies too.
Most of the calls I saw about that was for there to be a HOT category.
In the last day or two fish have been jumping out of the water and “swimming” on land nearby. When I attack them they jump back into the water.
I also occasionally see candy corn nodes flash into existence for half a second before disappearing.
I thought I saw a candy corn node in Orr! Glad to know I wasn’t imagining things lol. I’ve seen the small anomaly also but I assume its related to some upcoming content.
The ghost candy corn node problem has been around a couple years, it’s a bug that occurs some times when the area the node is in first comes into view.
The ghost walker is different. I encountered one last night at the pumpkin patch in the iron marches.
So I guess the pumpkin patch was the most sincere one in the game?
^^ To Ori, no, it seems he has no INTEREST in HoT maps, which is not surprising, as it is a constant theme on the HoT forums..
Exactly (although ‘she’). I bought HOT for the new game mechanics, like the elite specs. Even though CT is older I still prefer those maps.
Frustratingly, if you have HOT you get punished in the PVE dailies. At rollover I usually have both my HOT account and my non-HOT account logged in at the same time. For the HOT one: 4 events in DS. Well, that is a wash since I have yet to even get to the zone (if the event to get there from TD will succeed I will crash). My non-hot account? It replaces the HOT events with a low-level zone instead.
This is one reason I haven’t purchased HoT and probably won’t unless they start offering non-HoT events instead or in addition to.
If you own HoT, HoT events are added into the cycle of maps. You are not stuck doing only HoT events for the dailies.
I never said I was but when a hot map comes up you do not have the option to do a not-hot map instead.
Just like when a vista daily for Shiverpeaks doesn’t give you the option to do Ascalon. Just like how a daily to for engineer/Ele/rev/warrior wins doesn’t let you do the other classes. Just like how the daily for mining in Orr doesn’t let you do logging in Ascalon.
You are insisting on missing the point. When shiverpeaks come up, fine, everyone, hot or non-hot does it. Most likely do your gathering then pop over to WF to do the shaman events.
IF you have bought HOT your rotation now changes. Whereas before you could go do some brainless thing on WF now you have to go to a level 80 map as a thank-you for buying HOT.
Basically, whether you call the HOT significantly harder or not, you are degrading your experience doing dailies as a thank-you for buying HOT. This does not happen if you do not buy HOT.
I am sure I am not the only one who has not reached DS. So having me do something there is pretty much saying I have one less possible daily.

It takes maybe 30 min to run from VB to DS; likely less. You do not need to do any events in TD in order to gain access to DS.
It is not the time. WIthout doing the events you need to run there and the mordem at the end of the ogre lane keep killing me.
Even so, why should an account I did NOT pay extra money to anet with get an easier daily?

Good on you. I had pre-purchased HOT so when it started doing this I did not have a choice to opt out. It is frustrating to see ‘do 4 events in dragon’s stand’ (a zone I can not even GET to) on one screen and something like ‘do 4 events in wayfarer foothills’ on the other. Oh, and before someone suggests it I have tried: you do not get credit for the other zone if you have HOT.
They have an easy solution too. Just exclude anything in the HOT zones from the daily rotation.

Why is there this big hole in front of me with no wall around it or anything in it? Oh, I logged out after gating from wvw last night.
I’ve not noticed any extra lag but I do now see a very very slow initial rendering of places which is something I have not seen before in this game. It’s particularly bad in the main cities. I’m not talking a bit of flicker. When I portal to Hoelbrak my toon stands in mid-air for one second then it takes probably 5 or 6 seconds for the environment to get fully drawn. Once it is done there are no further problems or lag. It’s so slow that I can portal in and run to and enter my home instance before more than a pot plant or two have appeared (it takes a bit of practice to avoid the invisible walls!)
So something definitely changed around the time of LS3.
I thought it was only me!
Hoelbrack I had to do a shiverpeaks vista from memory and seeing where people were standing. VB is a nightmare running around in (thank you glider and WVW a keystroke and a button away).
NA servers, east coast US
I returned to the game after a couple of years of break and there are a few things that bother me about the mastery system, which I’m not going to list here as they’ve already been mentioned.
I just can’t help but wonder, though…what if we only needed mastery points OR filling the exp bar to master a given mastery? I am horrible at jumping puzzles and timed events, but I don’t mind doing the pve grind. I’d totally just do events all night long instead of falling to my death over and over again just for a single mastery point (yes I fail at gliding). Also, am I correct in assuming that the mastery points are finite? I wish they’d implement a daily system where you can farm a mastery point or two each day doing a type of game mode we enjoy.
Another thing I’d want to see is the ability to skip masteries you are not interested in. For example, I don’t want stealth gliding but I want the one after that. Basic mastery being mandatory is fine, though, but after that it should be player choice, imho. Just keep the cost higher for more advanced training, but give us choice depending on how we want to play the expansion areas.
So much this. Mastering something involves training (although given the world it is understandable that magic, ie the MP, is another path). Why should it involve BOTH training and magic? Give us a choice – those that prefer achieves get what they want and those that turn white at the list and want to bash mobs on the head instead also win.
Right now I have my ‘must get’ list (pact cmdr at max, gliding-5 and level 2 on everything else in HOT). Next up is the new one in LS3 and my ‘nice to have’ list (a few select HOT ones). Everything else I am not interested in. I can see where, oh, poison resistance, would come in handy but the risk/reward ratio does not justify it.
Of course, if you do not do fractals enough to earn the points there you probably are not interested in the fractal mastery line anyway. Well, unless you are doing it for completeness sake (and to get the spirit shards) but there is another thread about that.
Probably the best way to approach it if your main care is pact mastery (and maybe some of the legendary line) is to get gold, use that to buy some gems, then purchase however much of season 2 to get the MPs you need. You can hop around chapters so look on the wiki to see which ones look easier. Insights and chests in CT would be nice but for some reason we do not have them.
If you don’t have LS2, then you’re deliberately not having the game
You do realize people still signed up for the game after LS2 ended, right?
I really wish the game gave a few MPs for maxxing crafting out…
It would be handy. Admittedly crafting is just gold since there are so many guides however it is actually working towards something. There is already an achievement for what, 8 500s even.
If you come across a NPC waiting for interaction from you before starting call it and wait a few seconds for people to start to arrive.
Please do not be greedy as there is nothing beyond gold. Think of where you need to guard pamfa’s lab from inquest in Brisban Wildlands: it takes a long time and there are usually more people than inquest (which arrive spaced out). Hard to tell if you have done enough damage but watch your combat tab.
Please tell WHERE the difficulty lies, because I unlocked it all in one go when it was released (well, save the exp grind, which i mostly got from fractals)
Yea been playing said game for 3 years before masteries I had 48-50 points when the system came.
I wonder what have you other people been doing? playing the tradepost?
If you do not have LS2 there is a big chunk of MPs right there you are missing.
OK, thanks! I looked at my account and it appears I do have Heart of Thorns. How hard would it be for someone with my issues to get to level 80 on Engi? Someone asked for more specifics on my limitations. Basically, I have slow reaction times which limits dodging, and I have trouble moving and attacking at the same time. I understand that I will be limited in what PvE content I can do. I don’t PvP at all.
No matter how much you are able to do if you log in every day you will get enough tomes of experience (each one pushes you up a level) to get to 80 in 8 months. That is 5 months if you opt to get tomes rather than laurels at the end of each month.
Note that is doing absolutely NOTHING but logging in. The game gives you xp for practically everything. I would recommend at least running around maps to unlock the waypoints (if not all, as many as possible) and get xp from that (look on the wiki for where they are).
Once you hit 80 look for a HP train to be advertised on the forums or in LFG. While some are go somewhere and commune others are fighting a champ so you will want more people.
Hmm, I wonder if there is a guild for PWDs? If so, that would be a good place for ideas as well.
I almost never dodge and love PVE the most. Aside from rangers and necros remember mesmers cast clones and ogre runes can summon rock dogs.
edit: Oh, I also find a long range weapon (like a longbow) as a primary plus something melee for short range makes for a great combo.
Out of the 3 lines the only one that held any interest for me was pact commander. It took me forever to finally get the final 4 points for that. Especially since I waited to get more points due to the wiki originally saying I got a point for every chapter on a new race with the PS. I finally decided to do the first four chapters in season 2, less that a play session for each but at least I got the points.
As long as it was not so blingy it interfered with other people, especially those that are photosensitive. Think 100% brightness or a walking strobe light. If they have the rewards equivalent of a new skin that just satisfies their completeness OCD go for it.
Too bad there was a long lag in telling support about getting MPs from story chapters and the wiki had it wrong. According to it if I did a level of the PS on several races I should have gotten a MP on each one and nothing on it said otherwise. I had a support ticket in for months about missing MPs.
I would to see the NPCs be a bit more durable or at least follow you to what you are attacking.
At least give them the same AI as pets/minions in a fight. They do not need to hold their own against several waves, just do SOMETHING to help.
They have done worse. In an early ep of LS2 you have to fight the big bad and something that revives it. Meanwhile the NPCs are doing nothing although they seem to be building the thing that starts fearing you without having any effect on the reviver. No ‘oops’ or trying to dismantle the device, now you need to deal with the big bad, the reviver, fearing devices, AND their doing nothing to help the battle.
Sort of like all those recipes that use the various keys? Anet wants to sell more shared slots but this is not the way to do it.
If someone is complaining about extra MPs on the map then maybe they should put in a ticket to have some of theirs transferred to a friend?
I can only hope the next expansion expels the current mastery system. It is not fun at all..
I doubt it will happen. There aren’t enough people who don’t like it for it to change. They may change how you get mastery points for it, but they won’t change the system.
Yes, I would like to see gaining mastery points be more doable in some way. Like buying them or having them come with xp. I have no problem with the current xp requirements (although like others have said I would like them to be more logical if possible) but a lot of people (including me) are winding up not being able to progress in masteries simply because we ran into a brick wall with getting MPs. Platformer adventures are not why I play GW2. At one point I ran into an annoyance with the story, sure I could look up how to solve the problem but that would defeat the point of being surprised by it.
You mean I have to get to the airship with everybody? I have only tried with one character so far but just assumed it was like HOT where only one character needed to do the pre.
Hmm, one idea: buy the scroll and have each character open up a waypoint there. It still seems like a waste though.
I don’t understand why this is a problem.
I haven’t maxed all of my masteries yet, therefore I don’t want my XP to go on spirit shards (which I already have far more than enough of and can get from other places) – I want it to go on finishing my masteries.
I don’t feel like a second class citizen or like I’m being discriminated against. I feel like I still have an actual use for my XP, instead of it being dumped into a ‘consolation prize’ which is what will happen if I ever finish them all. (Which seems unlikely now they’re adding new ones.)
The problem is you used to get something as an 80 when you gathered one level’s worth of XP. Now they are back to that ….. but ONLY if you have maxed out the masteries. You might not need certain masteries, you might have trouble getting mastery points, whatever. The point is now some people are getting spirit shards (solving the ‘XP goes poof’ problem for them) but other people are not. Typically the people without maxed masteries are casuals.
The ‘level all your masteries’ makes no sense. In Tyria I only see one of the three masteries as being worth leveling (I have no desire to make a legendary and I do not do fractals). Maguuma XP is easy, the MP that are usually what limits your progress so we need a way to burn the excess XP.

Open world events? That would be tricky. Most people relaxing on a beach will not take kindly to someone splashing out of the water and shouting “There’s something in the water….HELP!” Followed by a couple of hundred players converging on the beach and shouting about turrets and “south boats”.
Are you kidding me? This would be so epic! Lol
Of course the geek in me had to wonder why water resistant cells were suddenly so common.
What would be really neat is if there’s a forum or something dedicated to gamers with photosensitivity (epilepsy, vertigo/motion sickness, migraines etc) that gives feedback on what game/area of a game is a significant risk and what isn’t. It seems like something that should exist on the internet.
That is what I was thinking of as well, other players may be able to suggest workarounds for those things there as well. Some you can skip in one way or another (immediate escape key for vistas, shutting eyes in non-optional cutscenes, etc) without losing anything if you know any information that will be revealed in that bit. Others would have more complex workarounds (sunglasses, mesmer ports).
I wonder if using the relevant wiki chat pages would do? Then tie it all together somewhere?
Video games are generally something you shouldn’t be doing at all if you have any form of epilepsy, as far as I’m aware. Hell, simply staring at a screen is discouraged and I doubt you didn’t know that. When you willingly do something that can trigger your condition, then that’s on you unfortunately
It is pretty standard for games to put seizure warnings on everything whether it needs a warning or not. As to looking at screens …. try to picture going through a day without looking at a computer monitor, phone, or a TV …. at ALL. Different people have different levels of tolerance, even with both having photosensitive epilepsy one person can play games for 24 hours straight and another can not look at even a static web page for longer than 5 minutes.
(edited by Menadena.7482)
I have epilepsy. I typically err on the side of caution when it comes to games. Even though it does not seem as if blinking lights and such are a trigger for me (any form of stress is though) I do what I can to avoid them just in case. You might want to see if there is an alternate path that yields the same rewards. Or a low tech solution is to know when the blinking lights are and shut one eye (which one is better for you is trial and error).
If it were not for technical issues galore it would be a great boon to us altoholics. I currently have one HOT account that has a dozen characters and I spend 99% of my time on. I have another paid (but not HOT) account that I just use to collect login rewards on because if I bought HOT there would be so much I would need to do to even come close to what I have on the other account.
How much I spend varies. I need to total it up (I never delete emails except for junk either) but at a guess it averages to less than a subscription game. More so as time goes on because most of my gem purchases were categories I will be spending less on as time goes by (unlimited tools, character slots, that sort of thing) and usually only bought skins when they were on sale. I like it because I can just play a couple months without spending anything at all, I am not renting my stuff, my virtual goods feel more like I own them.
Yes, in fact the French translation must be misleading then. Because in French, it clearly states that the unlimited tools will replace the tools of all of your characters. :/
Thx anyway for the answers, unlimited gatherings tools are still not for me then
Same here, as long as I need to unequip/equip them after each character session it is not really more of a timesaver than keeping a spare of all 3 tools in a shared slot (which I already do). Less handy actually, since I only need to do something about the slot when I remove the limited-use tool from it.
Can we please get a working Mac Client [Merged]
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Menadena.7482
Oh for a real mac client. I do not crash as much now but that is because I constantly leave my settings at the minimum. Yes, a very bad game experience but not a lot of options.
Whats wrong with using Wine?
I am guessing you are a windows user? Maybe they should JUST develop a linux and/or macos version and windows users could use an emulation layer instead of us? How long do you think it will be before you are complaining about the situation?
Often about 1/3 of the drops I get are stuff that has reached the lowest sell price on the BL store and there are hundreds if not thousands of them being sold. I usually either salvage those or sell them to a regular merchant. It takes time to check all of the loot on the BL store.
If it is a blue, green, or white do not even bother checking the price on the TP. Salvage it and sell the mats. A few mats will not sell on the TP so just toss those at a merchant for a few coppers.
Yay! No more having to find other things to do between sales whenever I want to sell a bunch of stuff.
I would also like to see some pvp and wvw maps where gliding could be a part of the experience too.
The first time I went to deploy a glider in WVW after casually jumping off someplace high it took me a second to figure out what was wrong. Followed by feeling very stupid when I died.
Mastery system improvements (shorter ver.)
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Menadena.7482
I would like to see masteries more like what they were intended to substitute for: leveling past 80. Right now, if you lack the # of mastery points you can have enough experience but you can not gain the mastery.
What is the argument? That I need to do some random challenge first? Okay, I did it but spent the point elsewhere …. prove me wrong.
Mastery XP = good, does what is expected
Mastery points = drown them with fire
Guild Wars universe does not acknowledge Individual Real Nation Pride.
So… No Canada Day
No U.S. Independence
etc.Been that way even in GW1
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Lucky_Treats_Week
Clearly a take on the Americanized “St Patrick’s Day”.
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Special_Treats_Week
A thanksgiving celebration in everything but name.
https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Dragon_Festival
A fireworks heavy event that ends on the 4th of July.
While they don’t explicitly celebrate American holidays, it’s pretty obvious what these three were meant to symbolize.
I suppose wintersday is a celebration of Finland’s independence day that just hits a couple days late? It fits since Santa is Finnish.
Remember, the people that work at anet live in the real world. So when they add a festival it will probably hit/be near something analogous that they celebrate. That does not mean things HAVE to fall on those dates though. There is no reason why, oh, some significant day between Tyria and the Charr can not hit in the fall.
Where on Tyria will there be fireworks displays this coming weekend?
I guess whatever zone the US is in?
Yes, 2 was probably the best (although I liked the flexibility of 1). The three biggest problems currently:
1) Gold is tied to it, so no matter what you do you feel like you ‘have’ to do them now to keep up with everyone else in the economy. Yes, there are other ways of getting gold but when you know everyone is for a few minutes work you can not afford to skip it.
2) Too many things are in the PVE track. Yes, you can do the others (and I do) but from what I have read people in other modes, especially wvw, are not thrilled with the situation.
3) Everything is random. Maybe it is just me but I liked finding out in advance on the wiki what was coming up so I could plan my evening.
4) Some tasks are trivial (vistas) and others not so much (tag 4 events in a particular zone before the big bad dies because everyone else is doing the same thing). Are dailies supposed to be easy or just plain annoying?
I like the OP idea as it would make people change their looks more, especially us altoholics. I generally figure I have 10 charges per character per year …. which basically means I have to pick a look and stay with it. If I want to wear something that only makes sense part of the year (a seasonal thing maybe) it does not wind up on my normal stuff because then I will need another charge to make it something more normal. Make them more like minis where once it is unlocked I can just select it.

Oh, were you the purple tag running group I saw exiting fields of ruin?
Probably (although there were a lot of tags that color yesterday). When we got to the next region people were asking why everyone had ran.
The march encountering a dynamic event was a glory to behold.
My partner and I loved the event. I heard about the TS NPC in Lion’s Arch. It would be a cool touch if ANet programmed any LGBT representing NPCs to join the March on each instance next year. Maybe even to lead the groups since so many got disconnected from the groups because of full instances. Some got lost when there wasn’t anyone to show the path on that instance. Maybe give the leader NPC a pride flag.
Well, my character modeled on her (Sya Kello) was there. Unfortunately on a laptop with a dead wall power outlet and bad wifi on a train due to complete its journey about the time the march ended. Translation: I was running rather than walking. When I eventually looked up to see my screen I noticed people were saying others could follow me as an option since I was tagged up … whup!
