Thanks for taking the n out of fun for holidays.
epic!
guys I experience DR after half an hour in the maze. It’s not that hard to see it. Check the karma you get from the door events. Trust me, the XP and the loot is also diminished. First door event (with multi-mobs) you may get 30 bags, 15th door you will get 5 bags for the same amount of mobs. It is really a pity having to change toon for something like that. Oh well, we’ll survive, I surely don’t expect changes right now.Event DR (for Karma and XP) is a completely separate and wholly unrelated system from mob loot drop DR.
I agree. I farmed for 4 hours straight yesterday and never swapped characters, the only DR I saw was less karma and experience. It didn’t affect the bags I was getting, or the drops from enemies. DR effects map/event rewards. But if you’re getting ToT bag drops from enemies along the way as well as the doors it’s hardly noticeable.
In those 4 hours I still made 5 stacks of ToT bags. Again, it only affects karma and exp, the change to drop rate if there is one, is hardly noticeable.
Even if it is just xp that is still bad. Plenty of people (myself included) are trying to level characters.
First off, content is relevant the moment we can access it. The content in Cursed Shore is no less relevant to someone who didn’t do the story than to someone who did do it.
Second, plenty of games have free exploration.
Exactly, I came in 2 years ago so did not have all of season 2. I eventually bought the missing episodes and played some of them because I was short a few mastery points. I had 0 problems with the logic of any zone, whether it was there at the beginning, was added in a story I had yet to play, or whenever. If I was curious I could always google them or check the wiki.
In addition to story gating (say they have a mega-mega-mega champ before a zone at some point, almost nobody will be in that zone for awhile) there is another problem. Now you have sections of tyria cut off from the rest of the map. Since we are now on chapter 2 this means there are people who do not (or do not yet) have access to one of the new zones.
I did not time it but is it really at an hour? That is pointless. Sure, take breaks, your inventory will fill up anyway, but an hour at a time is WAY too low when you are trying to level a character. As was pointed out most of us gasp do not have a lot of free time during the week. What is worse, when we do have a huge chunk of time (like weekends or days off) we can not take full advantage of it.
Actually it is worse. I bought GW2 after DT had been introduced and wandered into it before even owning the story chapter. In fact, I still have not ran the SW introduction story chapter but go there all the time.
So what happens to the people that don’t unlock the story? Are they barred from the zones without a teleport to friend?
Even worse then that. Say someone buys GW2 now. How do they get to BF? Buy the story? Buy (or otherwise obtain) a TP to friend?
Has anyone tried running a player new to HoT through the LS3 story to see if they indirectly gain access to Bloodstone Fen that way?
No but why would they? You get access though running the episode. If you do not have the episode …
So what happens to the people that don’t unlock the story? Are they barred from the zones without a teleport to friend?
Even worse then that. Say someone buys GW2 now. How do they get to BF? Buy the story? Buy (or otherwise obtain) a TP to friend?
My point being, where in the course of time did we get so lazy we consider skipping content of a game a normal thing?
I seem to remember something about playing as you like ….
The closest analogs are Drytop and the Silverwastes. I am sure I was not the only person that played them before owning the episodes. Guess what? I was not completely confused. Imagine that!
Yes, you can skip it. The problem is at least one of your characters needs to do the story (which is unlike DT/SW) unless you feel like using up a teleport to friend. I would rather skip it on ALL my characters and do the story if and when I feel like it.
Exactly. There is even a path in VB and a path in BF that look like they were intended to connect. Multiple possible ways to get to EB (LOL, almost typed EF because I call it Ember Farm) without story gating as well.
Having things in disjointed time frames is not a problem. Otherwise we would have seen a massive reconstruction of Orr.
Every time I see someone complaining about AB multi-loot, I can’t help but wonder how much gold they have tied up in ectoplasm investment.
Not much since I give it to my guild. My concern with it is that AB is no longer fun.
the zones are behind a prequel. you dont have to do the entire thing to access t hem. you have to basically do 1 minute of dialogue and then poof youre there. why is this even a topic?
One minute of dialogue? Seriously?
The first chapter involved two ‘sub-chapters’. Each involved much dialogue and player interaction. The second part involved 2 battles.
The second chapter did not involve as much dialogue but it involved a much more intensive battle.
I am sure I was not the only one that wanted to get to the new zones the first day. This meant one of the few times I have gotten to all of my armor broken because nobody else had play-tested it before me (I did not realize you could turn off/down the flame circles).
You don’t have to do anything. You can use ‘Teleport to a Friend’, and once there, buy a Portal Scroll.
Perhaps, this is a lore-related way to bar maps from non-expansion players. I don’t know.
Maybe you are swimming in teleport to friends ….
Actually, I went to those zones before buying the chapters and had no ouble at all with them. You could always do narration the first time if you really needed it (optional or not). My concern is with there being a bar that says you HAVE to do something to get in.
Say you chose a norn, did you really need an explanation the first time you walked into, oh, ascalon?
Another thought: we have two starts to maps now. Why not build more to, say, the fire islands?
The story explains how the character arrived to that map. It wouldn’t make much sense for the zone portal to just magically appear.
Sort of like how drytop and the silverwastes did not make sense unless you had done the chapters in season 2 that introduced them? Oh, my bad, you were not forced to do the story for them.
The feedback thread is more than 3 days old but feel free to merge it if it should go there instead.
Please do not make us go through story steps to get into a new zone. I like freeform exploring then doing the story whenever. Plus it makes the zone feel like it is not part of tyria if I can not just get there from a neighboring zone without waypointing. Narration would be one level of ugh but both chapters have had something challenging to even get there.
Am I the only one that has that reaction? The fact that each zone had a zone-specific mastery was also not a plus for me but hopefully their masteries will be used elsewhere.
Thanks, so it sounds like the normal buy-new-gear-once-in-awhile just that I am doing level 80 content in lower level gear, thanks.
BTW, any opinions on necro vs ele for that stuff? If I am going light anyway I am leaning towards doing a staff ele.
I may as well use it for gobbling xp for my final character. I am doing 15, 1 race in each armor class, so this will be either a norn ele or a norn necro …. I am still working out which.
Anyway, while my character gets scaled up to 80 what about my gear? Does it get scaled up as well or do I have to change into level 80 weapons/armor each time I enter?
Gliding is needed? I have gliding-5 but have not really missed ley-line gliding there. At least basic gliding is pretty much a must for the LS, but for most of the island it is optional. Sort of like lava tubes …. you do not need them as such but it solves a few problems faster.
map: farming, mostly 2 d w/ gliding, replayable hearts → LOVE
[sort of meh about the terrain theme though, would REALLY love this with the shiverpeaks]
episode: ANOTHER story gate to the map, more mastery points needed → HATE
I am hoping we can get to it from some other map (no story step gateway) and there is not another skill. I have yet to complete episode 2 so when 3 starts more people will flock there.

One thing that I think would really be a great start is to remove physical character actions from chat. The point of typing “/sit” or “/dance” is to make your character perform that action, not to inform everyone in chat that your character is doing that action. When you go to a club and dance, you don’t simultaneously announce to everyone around you that you’re dancing. They can see that.
Removing these actions from appearing in the chat record, or at least having a toggle to remove them, would allow me to avoid my chat filling up with
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.
[Character] is busting out some moves, some sweet dance moves.etc. Which is unnecessary since I can SEE that the character is dancing…
This would be a start to cleaning up chat.
I RP and I have seen the above filling my screen much more often that I have seen even one RP emote. Usually when I meet another RPer we jump up and down rather than use /me.
Many people don’t know this but there is an instance called Rugnar’s Steading in Wayfarer’s Foothills just a few steps north of Dolyak’s Pass Waypoint. Everyone you want can go in there.. it’s not exclusive to a single person… a ton of people can go in and be completely apart from the rest of the GW2 community. You can RP to your hearts content with NOBODY hearing or caring.
To answer your next question of how to let people know.. Simply let the people that you know where it is… they can tell their friends and so on. It’s a real easy solution if people are willing to just give it a try.
Make that the RP zone.. nobody else uses it for anything.
The only objection I can see to this suggestion would be that people actually ‘want’ other people to see their rp instead of having it just between the rp’ers.
Are you sure there aren’t people RPing there already? Basically, your advice may likely be falling on deaf ears as RPers likely already frequent the area every now and then.
DR is often used likely because it is the human home town and there are more human RPers than other races.
Lastly, RPing is spontaneous and isn’t always isolated to a single area. Things may move from place to place. A better question is, why is it so offensive that other people are using /say and /me (programmed to be local means of communication) to communicate with players locally in-character?
Of course it will fall on deaf ears. I actually didn’t expect much more than that. People of one mind are like that. Does anybody that RP’s in DR actually understand that this is Guild Wars 2 and not the “Meet and Greet” game? There are actually games all over the place designed just for this purpose. They can, and will, stay in DR because they WANT people to see what they are doing. That much is clear…. they scream that we are intolerant but the fact is there is zero consideration for the thoughts and feelings of others who have to continue to read this drivel. This is one of the main reasons I bought a pass for a different spot.
Heck, Lion’s Arch takes too long to load to be a home base and DR was a great place to go to for the quick loading. But I’ve moved elsewhere now (for another 1000 gems) but definitely worth it. :P
Actually, DR has long been the home base for most roleplaying. Before megaservers one specific server (which was hard to get to) was the one used but now there is no good way for everyone to go to the same server so you see RP on pretty much any DR instance.
Can I have your salvaged luck?
May I ask what you mean by “you gotta pay for it”? Season 3 is free content this far. Or did I miss something?
It is as free as season two was. If you log in for atleast 0,00001 sec during the latest episode you will get it for free. But if you did not log in for example during last episode with the bloodstone fen map then you have to pay a few gems to unlock it.
Edit: even if you don’t own HoT you still get them for free, but they will not get unlocked before you get HoT.
Actually cheaper. In season 2 you had 2 weeks between episodes and now you have 2 months.
Someone being on vacation or otherwise away for 2 weeks happens all the time. I think I would get the DTs if I was without internet access for 2 months though.
Green.
They actually had to lower it for a bit — the servers couldn’t handle that much mail in the system, along with everything else they were managing. I suspect, therefore, that it’s more involved than simply changing the number from 10 to 20.
That is just bizarre. Without attachments an email is not a lot of data. Even attachments are just simple pointers.
Frustratingly, it puts those us of us who consider it an exploit so refuse to do it at a disadvantage.
Disadvantage of being able to buy twice amount of ecto for the same amount of gold?
A low price on something only helps you if you want to buy. I salvage and sell much more often than I craft something.
This is a terrible idea
Agree completely!
Just yesterday I clicked on my GW2 icon. It turns out in my previous session earlier I had not completely logged off and the window got buried. Rather than an ‘oops’ moment should I have been fearing for losing my account?
What is the cause of this massive deflation in the value of goods over the last 6 months?
Auric Bank multi-loot
Frustratingly, it puts those us of us who consider it an exploit so refuse to do it at a disadvantage.
I would love to RP with you. I would also like to write a long detailed reply, but I am on a bus going to town. Please, contact me if you would like to play sometime.
I just need to comment on the ‘bro’ thing as it has both amused and slightly irritated me. Being called bro is great when I play one of my male characters. But I am a woman and when my character is also a female, it makes me both chuckle and sigh. For some reason many people still seem to think players are male.
If you can get the right person/guild to RP with it can be fun. For example, the cardinal rules in the RP guild I am in are about respecting others rather than ‘how to RP’.
As to people assuming there are not women in games part of that is stereotypes on the net and part of that is cultural. For example, my gaming ID to the left I think looks very feminine (many English women’s names end in a soft ‘a’ sound) but a lot of people that do not know me assume the opposite.
This would be a Quality of Life improvement that I imagine would be very easy to implement, yet would have broad appeal.
Hint from a developer elsewhere. Never say ‘I imagine this would be very easy to implement’ until you have seen the code. What users think is trivial is often next to impossible and what they think will be hard can be coded in less time than the discussion about if the change should be made.
That being said it would be an interesting suggestion. Right now ‘which character is your main’ is baffling to us altoholics but ‘which character do you have pinned first’ is much easier to answer. Actually, I would prefer they do multiple lines rather than scrolling.
Pretty low I expect. But if you read the thread by the people doing the Auric Basin multi loot, they think it’s great and have many reasons why,
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Auric-Basin-Loot-Exploit-merged
Ugh, I have not sold any of my ectos for months. If they will be so low I would rather just give them to my guild.
Yes, it is bugged, and we’re very sorry. I have verified that you can complete your dailies by doing the other three components (for instance, doing the jumping puzzle instead or foragaging), or doing elements in WvW or PvP. So there are options for a work-around for this issue, for those of us who do Dailies, daily. However, we’re sorry for any inconvenience this bug causes and reports have been submitted so that we can investigate and avoid a repeat in the future.
Thanks for your understanding.
Thanks but as you can see the other modes are not a solution for many of us, I see other players as allies, not competition, so PVP is out. WVW can or can not be a substitute depending on what was chosen for it. Jumpng puzzles are right out. Fractals, dungeons, and adventures …. I have tried them but prefer vanilla PVE. We have a choice in dailies and I have made my choice.
See official response in thread in this sub-forum.
(Devs are aware, and will investigate for the future. One can use 3 from the other 11 choices to complete Daily.)
Good luck.
I did not know there were now 12 PVE choices. When did that happen? Yes, I know you are counting the other modes but the only other one I sometimes play in WVW and whether dailies are faster or slower there is a flip of the coin. I NEVER play PVP (I see myself as against the game, not other players) and if I was offered the choice between fractals and dental surgery I would sit down in the examination chair. As much as people may want to believe otherwise, some people do not use the modes equally. Sorry, ‘use one of the other modes’ is not a solution.
This used to work from here, was it not working there tonight intentional?
Wait so this does nothing and nobody knows what it’s for, yet it’s somehow selling for 600 gold. What…
Many people have more gold than they know what to do with.
If that is the case they can buy a title at the circus instead.
I will laugh like crazy if, when the contracts are reenabled, the drop rate for these rocks from the caches gets upped to something like 50% of the time.
For me a 100% repping Guild would be an obstacle. I play at odds times and having US based and Aussie based Guild allow me to play with a group no matter what time I’m on. What reason is there for 100% repping ? Now that influence isn’t a thing why would a Guild care how many you belong to ?
To generate a sense of community and loyalty.
To me, as long as the rules of the guild do not violate the TOS of the game, guilds can make up whatever rules they want. If a guild wants to require all members only play male asura elementalists, that’s just fine. I don’t even care what the reason for it is. As long as they make it clear to potential members what the rules are.
So 100% rep guilds to me are fine as long as they make sure players asking to join are aware of that and what it means.
Community and loyalty?
I see chats from all of my guilds. If one guild is not talking at all but another is guess which one I will probably talk to? The only thing repping does now is change what guild’s tag gets displayed.
It already exists. It’s called Perfect Imbalance. Its ever-changing effects helps keep the game interesting.

You should be a politician.
Or, actually, you shouldn’t – we really don’t need any more of that type of whataboutery.
Imbalance isn’t “interesting”, it’s just bad design.
Um, actually…
Wow… That cyclical imbalance pretty much sums up PvP balancing in this game… Really makes me wish they’d separate skills for the different game formats even more though.
I really wish they would, I thought they had a new way of doing it now though? I doubt anyone likes getting a nerf because of something that was relevant to another game mode that they do not play.
Balance so everyone is the same is pointless. Why not just have one profession, one set of weapons, one set of armor, and one set of traits/skills then? Fashion wars is what it is all about after all! If one build is better than another, so what? Everyone can use the same build so it does not carry any real advantages except for observers of a match that want to see different professions out there.
The 3 every time you do the 3 dailies is nice.
Is that the one you land in when you jump off the edge of the city?
Sorry, a bit too early to read all of that but I assume I sort of do what most do? Treat the green ones as vendor trash (I put all my trash in my bottom bag then just click though the bag rather than ‘sell all trash’), minimizing it with a copper salvage kit. The yellow ones I get with a better kit and send to an alt parked next to the MF (then I toss them when I get a bunch, sometimes I get lucky, sometimes not).

If everything is equally good at everything, then why would there be classes in the first place?
on second thought, a complete freedom of style like in elder scrolls games would also be cool. Starting without a ‘class’ and ‘armor weight’ and then specialize in whichever way you want
Yes, balancing is a constant game of whack-a-mole and is pretty pointless. If people gravitate towards a certain build so what (especially in something like PVE)? Is it the end of the universe or something? The way it is now there is no point in learning a profession because that skill/trait/weapon you got really good at and rely on may be nerfed at the next balance. Just go into any of the profession forums after a balance changed something and you will find people screaming. Then you have major changes, like the redo of the trait system. I used to love my engineer because I could throw turrets.
Back to the original question though. The next balance change will probably come out in November (or whenever the next part of LS3 is released).
The minis that are chosen are odd. We get , oh, Caithe ….. but many other significant characters are missing. Or they did not do the recognizable Taimi from LS2 but gave us one that is hard to identify from LS3. While Trahearne is not my favourite character I would support having him as an option for people who liked him.
I found the Ender’s Game reference to be quite enjoyable. The mission…
Remember from the dialog, its flavor to the story of Moto, who Taimi asked for help.
Doing it hours after release so not knowing that you could turn off the flames is a bit of a disadvantage.
I can completely understand…if I had done it first time through with one of my Scholar classes, I may have had the same difficulties while figuring it out.
True, and that was on my power build herald! I did not want to even think about how some of my other professions would do in the danger room. True, I could have waited a bit more so I was not going in blindfolded but I was like a kid who had just been handed a new prezzy to unwrap.
I’m NOT trying to be a jerk when I ask this…
What about being in the “Danger Room” with Taimi was so hard?
I only did this with my main currently, which is a Vanilla Warrior(not with Berserker loaded). I think I was downed once when I dodged past an orb when trying to shut down the flame circles.
Or am I misunderstanding which part was the big challenge to everyone?
What professions are you guys having so much trouble with? Just curious as I bring my other toons up through the story.
Thanks.
Doing it hours after release so not knowing that you could turn off the flames is a bit of a disadvantage.
Just a waste for those of us who do not need more central tyria xp. Ok, I only bothered to chase down enough MPs to train up pact commander because I did not care about the other 2 lines so until they give us more lines to fill …
Ah reddit! Of course! Silly us! We were actually looking on the company’s official forums.
