I forgot to add that I do not even try to do adventures for dailies. They take up WAY to much time so realistically there are only 3 PVE dailies. Since there is also other stuff I want to do in the next 24 hours the daily achievement in GW2 usually falls to the bottom of the list unless I see an immediate path to completing it quickly.
Not sure what the fit is about. Dailies, core or HoT are incredibly easy to do, and you got PvP and WvW dailies as well…
If you have a level 80 character and still have trouble with your dailies, you might want to consider to stop playing the game if dailies in all game modes give you discomfort.
It is the kittening ‘do 4 events in whatever zone’ because it is really ‘run to 4 dynamic events in a zone and tag it in the milliseconds before it ends’. There are some exceptions where there is a boss (and pres) at/soon after reset in some zones or a high event density. I highly doubt anyone doing pve-only is having trouble with gathering and a region-wide vista (mystic forge is free money and activity is basically just ‘kitten, it will take me a few minutes’).
I have recently been looking for a “backburner” game I could recharge my batteries with if I ever found myself if a rut. My initial standards were pretty loose: a world (ie, I had to actually see other people) with a fantasy setting preferred and no subscription fee (BTP preferred since many FTP ones are bleah). GW2 was the only game I could find that met both (since in WOW you are severely limited if you do not subscribe). Some other games I eliminated may actually meet the criteria, I would need to playtest them, but then they go against more stringent criteria, including designed for everything from casuals to hardcores.

Generally I would agree that a silver by itself is not worth it. I got it as part of a pack with a copper and other stuff though, so the price was a little more reasonable that way.
Decide what you really need with you and put the rest in the bank. Make sure you are not using bank space for anything you can replace cheeply (ie, get rid of any blues and greens).
I have run drive scans and such. All is fine when I am not running the client. These crashes also never happen in my win 10 virtual machine. Slow doing it that way but it says it is not a hardware issue.
People are getting a LOT of crashes lately. Mine seem to occur on the mac client and take my whole machine down. This is not a ‘lower your graphics settings’ crash that can be fixed, this is a ‘it is not usable’ crash.
Please anet, we can not wait for the mac client. Can you give us some sort of an update on it?
I made a spreadsheet of everything. Who needs what, relative costs, alternate purchase locations. At my current rate I estimate all 15 of my characters will have most of the new ascended stuff in approx 6 months. After that it gets throttled by the slowness of getting laurels and bloodstone rubies for the infusions and remaining items.
I am guessing they use an on/off for the various nodes. Still though, the placement in some home instances is less than desirable. I would rather WP to, oh, DR, than farm my nodes in the Sylvari instance.
I didnt bother to learn the thermal tube mastery in the prior zone but had no problem getting around in the most recent map. Am I missing something?
You do not need a mastery to get around in the current zone (although there are mushrooms, updrafts, and thermal tubes). The mastery in ep 3 is for using the flame.
The winterberry ascended pieces are HoT stats as well, I have not done the LWS3 farms for ascended pieces, but the winterberry route is very simple and quick. Each run nets me roughly 50 berries, and on 14 characters I have more than enough for a backpiece or ring and accessory per day. Each run takes me about 10 minutes, less depending on which profession is doing the run.
There may be more efficient ways but this one is still very rewarding for very little effort.
I average 2 characters per day doing the dailies in both ember bay and bitterfrost frontier (the other gets the zone items and about as much time there as the zone’s daily). Typically that means 100-150 berries/day and a few thousand UM (I salvage most of the petrified wood).
I worked out at the start that it actually made sense to buy the unbreakable tools for that many characters compared to buying them from the merchant. Unfortunately, then I found out about UM tools so now use those anyway.
It is the skin and showing off. From a stats POV it is the same as ascended unless you think you will be changing stat sets.
I have never had problems getting the xp and it has always been the points that were the throttle. If you are not planning on doing raiding (so can not max out every HOT mastery line and get spirit shards) I would not bother with getting the top tier of every mastery line just so you have it. Look at what each one gives you, I decided all of gliding except for ley-line and the other lines to the area vendors met my needs.
If all they are doing is sending out healing skills I am fine with them. Let them draw argo from the mobs guarding the berry bushes and send some healing to me at the same time.
So, to sum it up, the problem that OP is complaining about simply does not exist. It’s a complete fiction
It all depends on how you define it. Do you lose access to core dailies (albeit they will be on another day)? No. Can you get a HOT daily rather than a core daily? Yes.
I would rather not have hot dailies added to the list, tyvm. For me HOT is something that gives me access to the elites. I could give a toss about the new zones.
The HoT ones replace the core Tyria ones that show up on the tracker, but you can still complete the core Tyria ones if you want to.
Survey says? Bzzt!
You used to be able to but they changed that a long time ago.
He’s (probably) saying that if you want to do events in core or whatever the task is, you’re free to if you cba to look it up — you just won’t be rewarded with credit for dailies.
What is the point of completing dailies you will not get credit for?

It is true. The HoT ones replace the Tyria ones. If it happens every time or simply more than never then it is still a punishment for purchasing the xpac that has a major negative impact on my play style.
Also, the wiki states several dailies aren’t available to HoT owners. So, yeah, it is true.
I agree it is a negative. I usually login my non-hot alt account at rollover to get the login reward and often drool at the ease of what it has available vs what my main account has to do for the same reward. Not everything gets replaced but by adding hot zones to the list it does happen that they bump out something much easier (I think most people would rather do 4 wayfairer foothills events right before the shaman than 4 tangled depths events). Gathering is not hard (guild hall) nor vista (ember bay, go south from the main WP) but I hate racing to 4 random events with a passion.
Dont forget a Ring, Accessory, and Backpiece are all rewarded for turning in winterberries in Bitterfrost.
Actually, my major task lately has been getting ascended rings/accessories/backpiece/pendants/aquabreathers lately on all 15 of my characters (yes, it will take awhile). Part of that was breaking down the total UM cost in all 3 S3 zones. Depending on the drop range for salvaging/eating UM it looks like bitterfrost is the most expensive, even though the item (berries) is more common.
Do you mind sharing the numbers (for curiosity and my laziness’ sake)? I only have 9 characters but an eventual goal is ascendeds for all, and I’m not sure I follow what you said here.
Assuming what you get from eating/salvaging the zone item is the average of the minimum and maximum here is the UM cost adding what you need to pay in UM and items:
Bloodstone Fen (rubies)
Backpack 12500
Pendant 7687.5
Ring 5750
Ember Bay (wood)
Backpack 12500
Accessory 9625
Bitterfrost Frontier (berries)
Backpack 13800
Ring 6400
Accessory 10600
Underwater 17000
Great, another eergh.. I have to play the game to get my rewards
I hope you realized that the LS3 masteries are actually tied to the LS3 maps? nowhere else in the world do you use the thermal launchers. nowhere else in the world can you wield spiritually imbued flames.
Not only are the masteries limited to the zones they’re actually used in, it would make ZERO sense to unlock these masteries ANYWHERE ELSE
Have you actually looked at what masteries are used in the maps? Thermal tubes are learned in Ember Bay. They are used both there and in Bitterfrost. The core masteries are used everywhere. My point though is that they are LINEAR and require previous ones. Say they do open up zones without doing the story ….. unless you have the mastery from the previous chapter you are not getting the current mastery no matter how much you may need it (even if you had no intention of going to the previous zone you still need that mastery).
My feelings on tying doing LS3 to entering zones are pretty clear. It is a bad idea. They are doing an even worse one though because both of those are tied to masteries (that is how you get the pts for the next one and they are in order).
Say in a future zone they let you in without doing the story. You can train up the mastery anywhere in HOT/LS3, yes. If you have not done the previous zone you can not get the mastery points though. Even if you have some spare points (like not maxing everything) you can not get the relevant mastery until you get the mastery for the previous zone. To add to the pain, with these being almost “throw-away zones” the previous zone is easier when there are other people there and they probably will go to the new zone eventually (how many people are in Bloodstone Fen now).
Basically, you have to play LS3 at roughly the same time and rate as everyone else. No coming in late or lingering over a zone.
Is it just me that is annoyed at the direction they are taking? It is a one-size-may-fit-all approach.
Activities? Some of them force you to wait far longer than the inactivity timer.
Huh? I have never had to wait longer than a typical zone crossing to enter an activity.

And of course when someone refers to DPS on the forums, they’re talking about a closed-minded version of Guild Wars 2 that has only 1 profession and nothing else matters
Which is annoying. Professions that people dislike in some parts of the game are perfect for other parts. Still, people dislike that profession everywhere though.
For example, many people hate rangers because the pet attracts mobs. Meanwhile, they are perfect for winterberry runs because you can pause to gather and your pet can attract the mob.
I have some really bad news for you: the root cause of the instability of the Mac client is that it’s actually the Windows 32-bit client running in something very similar to wine. (Cider, an old toolkit for porting games to the Mac.)
Wine can run the 32-bit Windows GW2 client as well, but that’s not going to help with stability. It’s gonna have the same problems with memory exhaustion, etc, that the Cider port will.
What is super depressing is… 64-bit Windows and 64-bit MacOS are incompatible. They use one of the CPU registers in incompatible ways, meaning that WINE isn’t going to be able to run 64-bit Windows programs any time soon. (possibly ever.)
You would actually be better off investing in something like VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox with their 3D drivers to run stuff here.
Virtual machines are pretty slow though. I have the 64 bit windows client running under Parallels. Fortunately that is an alt account to get login rewards because it can be lag city. If you want speed use bootcamp.
Whether you crafted or bought the regular one it was around 100 gold. I wonder how many takers they will get to buy the festive one since it is only relevant a few days a year?
The length of time you hold down the jump button has no bearing on the distance of the jump.
It has in other games since, what, the 80s, though. Muscle memory.
Have you tried ‘Teleport to a Friend’? That might bypass the story. I’m not sure. It did in the other post-Hot release maps.
Not sure if that works but it is not ideal. You need to buy them.
The OP already stated they would be willing to buy a “bypass” item
I have heard conflicting stories whether that is even an option though. Plus friend TPs are not on the gem store unless you count BL keys.
(edited by Menadena.7482)
If you are after berries there is no need to do the story to access the map. Only Bloodstone Fen and Ember Bay requires doing the story to access it.
Huh? To get access to the zone (what this thread is about) at least one of your characters needs to have done the first instance. Your other characters can enter after that to collect berries or whatever, but that does not remove the story lock on that first character.

Even if there is a way to bypass, I don’t agree with having story block access to a map. If they want to stop people from entering the map that haven’t purchased the expansion, have the gate check for that. That’s what other MMOs do.
They can obviously do it. For example, getting to the airship or such requires buying a pass. If they absolutely have to enter the story to get access to a zone just have a chapter that is 10 seconds of an NPC talking about the new land (hopefully stoppable with the escape key).
I dont know many games with such an awesome underwater combat System.
Why there are no underwater dungeons, or why all the new maßs got so few underwater places.
Mabye we can also get some Story with the Deep Sea Dragon or smth.
I got 1 underwater Leggy called Kamohai Kotaki and ist the most beautiful Legendary in this game.
I hope we can get Kind of a Atlantis map or so
?
this + 10,00000 !!! now it be really nice and welcome to see them do something like
this . and not only that but put a few chests in too . and way points as well . as farming
nodes like they have done . and even tho they will not do this but having the maps
in 4k with directx 11 would be a big hit
There are 1 or 2 waypoints in Bloodtide coast. Aside from having all the skills my biggie is the control. If you go from land to water sometimes you will go under and at least have some skills, sometimes you will not and have no skills. If you use the keyboard for navigation you are grabbing for a controller so you can dive under. Going from water to land is not always a picnic either, especially if you are in a hurry and seconds count.
Yes, this one was definitely bugged. If you were not bit by one you most probably were by the other. Or if you escaped both then you got caught on the mystery mechanics to get Aurene to fight the mordremoth. With any game update it is usually best to wait before running it if you can, let someone else find the bugs, but with LS3 that is not always an option.
By the time everyone gets all their ascended gear a new shiny (story) or 2 will be out. I want to actually enjoy a zone while people are in it. Or if that is not possible at least move on to where everyone is and enjoy the new zone.
Who said I have time to farm? The only reason I can manage, oh, 2 berry runs in a day is by giving up participating in other content.
Yes, in a year it will be a ghost town. Especially once everyone has all the berries they need. I give it about 9 months before it is just another farm for blues and greens. A real shame since this is a multi-player environment and a nice looking zone, but that is what people are doing with previous LS3 zones. I was not even able to get into the new zone until recently because I was busy with RL stuff.
Too bad there is not something obvious about it. I was on the verge of quitting but asked my guild what to do first.
Some of us have actual lives and do not have time to do the story right away. By the time we are able to do the story it is almost a ‘what is the point’ because the zone it accompanies is now dead.
I would not even mind buying a zone pass from the gem store for some reasonable fee (like the cost of the episode) if that is the only option. I just want to do the story when/if I have the time to do it and doing it a year later all to get access to a zone nobody is even in (look at the one from chapter 1) just is doing it to do it. For example, I still have not done more than half of season 2 because I never have the time.
Thanks, I restored a copy from yesterday and was able to download the patch normally and just got in.
Anyone else not able to get in now? The browser is crashing on my mac with a black browser window. Not sure if I am before or after the patch since I was not looking at the screen when I restarted the client.
Why is home instance farm such a good thing? I thought they were just a few nodes once a day? Someone please explain!
Just like there are just a “few nodes” out in the open world?
Free gold, no mobs, known time and location of where those nodes spawn. Look on youtube, it is not uncommon to pull a couple gold out of a full instance (which does not have to be yours, you can party up).
I do not have a lot of nodes but here is what I pull from every day, not counting extra strikes.
wintersday tree
candy corn node (the 6 strike one)
all 3 LS3 nodes
all 3 HOT nodes
In case anyone thinks there’s a bug with the berry spawn on the new map. Here’s my explanation of the thing.
The berry spawn timer is NOT affected by the daily reset. So, if you do a full run the night before (doesn’t matter if it’s before or after the reset) and try to do another run in the morning on the same character, not all of the berries might have spawned. Last night I did a full run on 3 of my characters and this morning on all 3 of those not all of the berries had spawned. But on my fourth characters, on which I did not do a run, the berry spawn was fine and I got the usual amount. So for those 3, I have to wait till later. Maybe till mid day or even later. Not sure exactly how long.If wrong, please correct me.
Yes, I have tried doing a run a couple hours before reset and then after. Some berries respawned but by no means all. I just decided not to do a run with the same characters 2 days in a row (15 characters so easier than if I only had a few but it means the best runners are not able to do it every day).
well maybe then the tp system need a rework since it allows people to exploit and leech from it, maybe every mat should go vendor route and gold be replaced by activity specific tokens. think unbound magic but used to buy everything per map.
and add direct trade kitten it was in gw1.
You really do not understand the concept of a free market do you? Some things I sell all the time have gone sharply down because of wintersday …. that is expected when the supply/demand ratio changes.
Remove or nerf those noob builds.
Im talking about no risk-high reward builds like condi mesmer, trap thief, The damage of Berserkers and dragonhunters aswell rev’s.
If you dont want to nerf the dmg, nerf survivability.
How about no?
New Players should be NOT able to kill good Players just because of the build.
As esports/‘1337’ players are constantly saying to everyone else: ‘git gud’.
Given that it is not even 7:30 in their office now at LEAST an hour or so based on recent history.
- Aurene miniature (too small in size, please fix, since it was costly to craft!)
I concur! I finally got everything together for it this morning and was disappointed. It is not like she is large at full scale so just WHY???
I blew three Mastery points on the torch, and I don’t think I’ve used one since, hours of play later. It seems pretty much irrelevant, outside of being a key for iced-up chests. It gets in the way when I go to fight, I have to go back and pick it up again, and it needs to be recharged at specific places on a map that is -notably- short on waypoints and other forms of fast travel.
At some point I will look into its skills but I just use it as a key …. and WHAT a key! Tons of blues and greens to salvage and I got two exotics (with previously locked skins) yesterday.
Remember how we wanted option to skip dialog?
Forget that. Give us option to skip whole story and just get to new map.Story is… I wished I could just kill that kitten ugly dragon and get over with this crap you make us play.
Another vote for the first part. Yay it is now connected to another zone but boo that it is still story gated. I like doing stories when I want to do them. Maybe that is the week of release, maybe it is half a year later when I am bored. The stories this season are getting increasingly vexing before zones, I was only able to figure out the final monster before bitterfrost with a ‘phone a friend’ … NOT a good trend!
As to the second part. Would I hate how she looked if one of the first things I did was get her mini?
If they nerf the multiloot I´ll be leaving the game. At least in the ML there is communication and you fight things. Only other thing worth doing in the game is silverwastes or farming materials. I´d rather scratch out my eyes than do either of these two activites everydays for hours.
Shall those of us that are losing our enjoyment of the game because the economy is getting destroyed by cheaters hold the door for you?
so you lose enjoyment when people play something you dont enjoy? your enjoyment depends on others doing something they dont enjoy so you can be happy. selfish.
If you were not having any impact on other people I would say have fun. Have you looked at the price of ectos before and after ML though?
Whatever elite she gets I want it!!!!!
Remember that prices are relative — relative to historic prices and relative to other goods.
Who is to say that 100g for 400 gems is high? Only when compared to previous prices. However, if it’s easier to farm 100g (AB multiloot), then gems can be relatively more affordable even at the same price.
However, when something hits vendor trash, then we’ve hit the point where we’re removing an oversupply from game. So, that is a limit on how cheap things can get.
I would not use multiloot as a comparison. Anet has said that is an unintended exploit and they are working on a fix.
