On behalf of all my trans friends and family who support mine and others causes, I’ll say it once more..
THANK YOU ARENANET TEAM!!!!!!!!!!
-A loyal fan for life.
Much thanks from me as well! I know she was just added as a minor npc that most people would not even notice but it is wow. Just like adding having Taimi have a disability or other characters represent various communities. I am not sure if the majority culture realizes how much it means to people to play a game, read a book, or watch a movie and see themselves in there.
[quote=6293292;Tars.6804:]
You might want to roll a ranger later as well. They are a fun class to play in many ways.
but I feel like I´m actually losing gold by doing anything other than ML.
And you’re right. The point is: do you play a game to gain in-game gold or for fun? I remember that old times when all games were just about having fun…
The two shouldn´t be mutually exclusive.
All I´m saying is make other areas more rewarding so that the game feels less grindy.
Why do you need a reward? If you need gold without grinding just buy gems and convert them. If you could convert gold back to real money you might have a reason to accumulate gold but it does not matter one bit if you have 10,000 gold over what you want to buy or 1 silver.
Some ideas of new stuff ….
Generate a new character and see if you can walk from LA to Cursed Shore as a lowbie.
Give mentoring new users a try.
Surely there is SOMETHING you have not done? All the dungeon paths? What about all the fractals? etc etc
How about something like roleplaying?
You do know about dynamic leveling right? I may know the CT zones like the back of my hand now but they are still challenging. Yesterday I wound up soloing an event with at least one champ and a mob …. yep, died as easily as if it were a level 80 zone.
edit: BTW, if you think gold is the only point you might want to expand your scope.
Thinking behind my first heavy class:
“I need a heavy armor class to be a tank. A Charr Guardian looks interesting.” (somewhat later) “Why am I dying so often in heavy armor?”
Now that character’s main duties involve crafting. I have long since decided guardian is my most hated class, especially without the elite spec.
I did not really have a good sense of where things were when I first started and my first character was a sylvari. It took me ages to figure out how to get to Gleaner’s Cove Waypoint and beyond except for when I did it by accident.
I talk on map chat in low level zones to help new players …. I have yet to be on a map where there were none. That does not even count the vets. On what map(s) are you seeing nobody?
Bloodstone Fen is pretty quick. You’ll get one-shotted most of the time but you gain a lot of XP. You’ll need a teleport to friend stone in order to get onto the map.
I thought you already had to be an 80 though?
edit: BTW, I am leveling up a new character right now as well. The strategy I use is to do dynamic events at low levels (I think you get more xp if you do them in a higher-level zone) and do hearts later on. Hearts are a guaranteed 1/7th of your current level’s xp, no matter what the level is, so they are ‘worth’ more the longer you hold off doing them. early on run around getting WPs and doing more dynamic stuff than hearts.

Congrats OP! Once I get around to finishing off the last instance in BF or grief counseling I will be 3 points away from getting all my ‘nice to have’ masteries. After that the rest are just for the sake of completing things.
OP, do what I do and stop doing the AB meta. Seriously. Buy a chest for your home instance and occasionally do events/sell the zone currency to top off your key supply. If anet realizes only MLers are doing the meta maybe something will happen.
If you have to know how to look for people, that means that they are hard to find…
Isn’t one of your complaints that the maps are too complex? So it’s not much of a stretch to imagine that there are 20 people on a complex map that you can’t see.
Even in Core Tyria you can’t see an entire zone from one position. I’m talking about not seeing anyone as I go about playing. Its very rare that I don’t just run into people in any Core Tyria map.
In Second Life when you look at a map there is a dot where every character is. Sort of like what we have now for guildmates and friends. It is handy for focusing on the hot spot on the map. Right now we just gravitate to commander tags. Anyway, would that help?
It is going to be pretty bad for people who buy into the game when the next expansions hits and have to do HoT with very low numbers because the rest are in whatever the new area is.
And I hope they have learnt that they need a variety of these meta maps and more layed back ones you can actually take a minute to look instead of having to be on the move most of the time. Plus that giving less in game armours. weapons (And things that should be in game rewards but are just cs skins) and cramming the CS with more stuff is not a good idea, either a healthy balance or you become a game like FW that at this moment is very empty on a server that used to be filled with players.
This is already the main kicker. I’m trying to play through HoT content at the moment, and there’s already whole zones populated by a tiny number of players, making progress pretty much impossible.
I’m at the point of just focusing on the personal story points, and grinding the Mastery Points for Gliding and such out as I go. It’s rapidly turning into the exact opposite of fun.
But hey, at least the “hardcore” players with nothing but time on their hands get to enjoy it.
There is still plenty of people playing hot maps, you just need to use the LFG tool and you will find plenty of full maps with people running events chain and metas several times per day.
HoT has been out almost a year now. If you still are short on content done on the expansion maps its either, because a) you didn’t bother and played different content, in which case its entirely your fault, or b) you are late to the party, in which case you have to accept the fact that player population always dimishes with time, oppose to when something is new and shiny, not to mention of the recent lw3 release and the new map, which drawn substencial part of the player base.Considering the original OP: For me HoT was a great expansion. Oppose to most MMO’s, which gives more of the same with their expansions, Anet tried to do something differently and take the game in a different direction. If it was succesful or not is matter of perseption. Different people like different things. What once percieve, as a failure, another will perceive as a success. As such if HoT was a failure or not is highly subjicative. To people who possibly read this thread and have not made their mind yet, about wether to purchase it or not, let me just say this: Watch stream material, videos etc etc and form your own opinion. You will never know until you try it, dont let other people sway your opinion, because in the end its a matter of taste.
I was late playing HOT content as well. First it was that it was released at the same time as Halloween and I decided to do a once-a-year festival rather than content that would be here after it left. Then the hardcore players were all there in a small area before raids, which is not exactly a fun environment for more casual gaming. Even now I spend most of my time in CT because I enjoy things like leveling new characters, roleplaying, and helping new people.
Which brings me to the main point of the thread, I certainly hope HOT is not the future! It concentrates the most toxic elements keeping everyone else away and then they leave all at once. Rather than all level-80 content I would also like to see a more mixed set of maps like we have in CT.
(edited by Menadena.7482)
Instead we have adventures, which is pretty much the same thing. Except more challenging, more rewarding and, more importantly, repeatable.
I would not say adventures are the same thing. Well, except for in the sense that some people like them and some people hate them with a wild passion. Oh, and I am in the second group.
Unlikely given how ANet has expressed that they ‘learned from their mistakes’ with HoT. Also, Bloodfen is a drastic step from the usual maps that started with Silverwastes and continued hardcore with Heart of Thorns.
We’ll see with new maps in Living World and with the expansion. But for now, I’m going to say future content will be casual and solo-friendly in the extreme.
It took Heart of Thorns to make ANet realize—once again—who the core audience is.
I hope so. Most of hot is bleah. I would have been ecstatic with more zones like what is in core Tyria (maybe we found a new continent) but they gave us something completely different. Even BF is not back to the original zones but it is getting there. My main want out of HOT was the elites …. then they went and locked them behind a grind.
Ironically the party interface is better than the squad interface now. Snapshots of people so you can spot them in a crowd, who is providing what buffs.
What REALLY annoyed me about the new interface is you could no longer be tagged up and in a party. Yes, there are times this is handy. It has been asked before, but maybe a way to just tag up and not form a squad?

Ok, thank you for explaining it. Still weird that I don’t have crash issues… lucky maybe?
It depends what you do in the game. General PVE in central Tyria? I am probably getting 60 fps because I keep every graphics setting at the minimum. An organized boss fight in Tangled Depths that is going great? I will most likely crash.
Personally I hope Anet does not give any compensation. It will give those stomping their feet demanding such a valuable life lesson that sometimes things like this happen and they just have to get over it. Plus even if Anet did do some kind of compensation the next wave of complaints would probably be many of the same people that demanded compensation complaining that it wasn’t good enough.
I agree. If they do decide to do compensation I hope it will be something that costs them nothing and lets us laugh at people who take this seriously. It is like this is their first time encountering downtime for any server anywhere.
Downtime yesterday: “Hey, time to watch that stuff on the DVR I meant to get to!”
The router the cable company installed constantly failing this morning so disconnecting me.
One guess which thing I hated more?
Special joke titles is actually a genius and hilarious idea for everyone that survived this.
Yes, either that or something like a joke skin that says ‘I survived the 8/23/16 rollback and all I got was this lousy t-shirt’. Server downtimes happen. I have seen worse. I even have lost part of holidays because someone thought it would be fun to attack a server at my company.
We will all get outfits that are natty jeans with an ‘I survived the 2016 rollback’ tee right?
[Well, in 2017 so there is time to make sure there is not a worse one.]

No, it is not your system, unless it is REALLY old (like maybe a decade old). The bottleneck is usually the wrapper that is used, it is only 32 bit so can not handle crowded locations like big metaevents. My 2013 mac crashes on minimum settings at some events.

They are working on a real mac version (the ‘beta’ is an unsupported wrapper). We got an update here from the devs recently, basically some basic things are working to show it is making progress but other pretty critical things are not. I am guessing it is a pre-alpha so nowhere near ready for even internal testing yet.
Actually not wanting to show skin in battle when you do not have to is feminist? The whole point of heavy armor classes is to be essentially tanks. Excuse me, I thought it was just common sense, the m1-a1 Abrams does not come in a soft-top model!
I would guess guys would have a different opinion if they were forced to fight monsters without something covering their groins!
(edited by Menadena.7482)
There are plenty of midriff-bearing (even to the point of revealing side and under breast) armor pieces in the game, though. I’m not sure why you think this is a case of censoring rather than a case of questionable design.
I am not sure why any skin shows really. If I am the heavy armor person in my party I want as much armor between me and the mobs as possible.
Some classes do melee and/or ranged better than others since they all have different weapon skills. Both warrior and ranger have greatsword and longbow (my fave weapon combo) so that is another reason why they are both great starter options. I lean towards ranger though because you also get a pet to watch your back. Starting out you will only have one weapon at a time but eventually you will be able to quickly swap between two.
There is a players helping players forum here so you probably want to explore that. You can also join a guild and ask questions there (map chat is hit or miss). As to the initial question though, I also would suggest ranger (you get a pet to watch your back) and sticking to PVE in core Tyria until you are used to the game. If you are on the north american servers feel free to friend me (Valtava Soturi among other names) and ask questions.
You can use them to buy armor (or is it weapons) in the racial cities and temple armor (level 80 exotic) in Orr. Most events give you the karma without a container, not sure why LS3/BF is different.
Assuming the body is the same under the armor (ie, the armor is not part of your avatar but is a distinct mesh), the answer is simple. Have there be a die that is pure alpha channel. It might be a bit trickier if they are hiding the underlying body area to reduce clipping though.
There is nothing under the armor – the underlying meshes are removed to improve performance. Texture/game modders have tried this already.
Thanks, I should have known it would not be that easy. There must be a technical solution somewhere though as they already do it with 3 of the armor components.
Hint: when something comes up in the gemshop that many people have been asking for forever you might as well buy it if you can afford it. You may see no need for something like wings or an infinite salvage device now but when you do you will be kicking yourself.
Obviously you can not do this all the time so apply a bit of sense. For example, I have not bought any of the gathering tools … we are almost always no more than a month before one of them in the shop.

Actually, I only made a human character after making characters for all the other races first, and that was because I wanted to pay homage to an NPC. I consider humans pretty boring.
It would be nice if somehow we could flag them as junk, so with one click they would be removed with the rest of the largely useless items.
I just reserve the bottom bag for junk and whatever I consider junk goes there. Then when I go to the vendor I just click on anything in that bag. Sure, extra clicks, but it goes fast.
Thanks! new news! It will be nice to finally see what happens when the TD meta completes. Or to take my graphics settings off of the minimum.
Thanks Ester, great to hear some news. I still have not been able to do some of the HOT metas because if there are enough people there for it to complete the client will crash (almost tempted to do it in a virtual win10 machine so I can use 64 bit).
Ouroboros
Is it just me? I used to always be able to sell them on the TP but more and more lately I am salvaging rares and having to vendor the major rune.
It may be in game but truthfully, lore wise, it makes no sense. Why should any god bless an atheist? How does the Charr statue give a boon when boon giving at a statue is a god like attribute. Why would making a statue of a mortal, no matter how famous they are, give the statue or the dead person the ability to give a blessing? Why only Charr statues then? Why wouldn’t statues of famous Humans, Norn, Sylvari or Asura give a buff too upon request?
But, no matter. You just want shrines and statues that give buffs and whether or not it makes sense is beside the point.
/shrug.
I’ve said a few times now, and allow me to cut it out in neon for you The Buff Does Not Matter! It Is Not Important!
No one care about the buff… it’s a minor effect… What we care about is the Flavour and the Lore… And it makes perfect sense. Why would a god not bless ANYONE who chose to worship them, regardless of which race they belong to?
Kneeling in front of a shrine = sign of worship. Thus the god would bless you, regardless of which race you belong to…What you want is already in the game for the most part then since you are ignoring boons. Go to racial cities and you will find statues, labs, and whatever. Well, not the Sylvari but plants and the Great Tree are there. Is it just a matter of requesting the emotes then?
As I understand OP’s perspective, it’s the possibility of some sort of lore-related reaction from paying homage/saluting/worshipping at these shrines that is being requested here. Shrine/statue-emote interactions already exist at rare points through Central Tyria, and it would be nice to see more.
Not really… my point is that kryta is bigger than divinity’s reach. Yet there is no intact shrines except for in DR. I don’t care about what is in the cities. The cities are packed with it and need nothing more. I care about what is in the countryside. my suggestion is simply that the Krytan maps are made to contain some of the Human culture that have been completely neglected in this game, but was there as a subtle layer in All of the first guild wars.
The emotes/Salutes/Whatever are just a minor detail that I don’t really give a dime about, but some people find it amusing to get a reaction from doing stuff.
Heck, for all i care it might as well just write on your screen “You feel the gods gaze upon you” and then nothing else happens. Though I don’t care about the boons and what’s not, it would still make sense to use it, since it’s already implemented.EDIT: As it is now, the human maps are generic around maps with NO cultural depth and NO feeling that connect them to their race. I find this sad and i think adding some flavour to the maps could improve the experience from being in them, a lot.
I would not say they are lacking in flavor, I am guessing you are from the US or at least western Europe?
At one point I was thinking of what music genres would go best with different maps. For example, Orr was somewhere between darker Pink Floyd pieces and some types of metal. Anyway, I put Kryta as country/western. Depending on your RL culture that may be standard but it is certainly a genre! Think of it from an, oh, Charr POV … it is completely different than what you grew up with.
The people that live in Kryta probably revere spots already. Mountains in the local lore, special buildings, things like that.

Hint: avoid raids. This will not be the last time you encounter this attitude there.
It would mean years of little or no content for GW2 while they make it
So it is confirmed that they are making GW3.
:D nice sacrasm
typo confirmed
GW3 would be nice. After a few years in tech you can do stuff you could not do before and eventually a rewrite is easier than tacking on the new stuff.
Being a vet does not always mean you are the best one to talk to. I once found somewhere wearing ‘been there done that’ and AFKing at a spawn location. I wound up tagging up so people would head in my direction and not try to rez him every time he died.
Anyway, I think it is a pretty good bet that vets in CT now who are not doing a champ train or boss want to help. The 1337 ones are probably doing the latest content in HOT (most likely BF), running fractals, or drooling over raids.
If most vets are like me they are not bothering to tag up because they are just exploring with a new character so do not want people assuming we are doing some structured thing. Assuming you are in a guild ask if anyone wants to do whatever and you will probably have some takers. Or you could ask in the Players Helping Players forum.
One thing that annoyed me about the squad rework was you can no longer be tagged up and in a party. In most cases this is fine but not for some bosses, like Teq. I was tagging up to help coordinate things and I am unable to jump into a party that needs people until I tag down again (right as everything starts so most likely I will be a bit busy).
I personally feel that both kinds of tags should only be used if you are helping in some way. Be that leading, giving advice, or whatever. If using it for an event you hopefully will have done the event plenty of times before (at least for bosses) so you know where the gotcha points are and common issues to watch out for.
My favorite thing to do with tags lately is to use it on introductory maps while completing them. I shout out both general advice for GW2 (if you have a choice between a heart and an event when you are somewhere, do the event first) and stuff like ‘there is an event coming up at xyz in 30 minutes which will satisfy a daily’. It is not uncommon to be thanked along with people following me.
Let me get this right, you want my Charr characters to kneel before deities? Much less possibly human ones?
I don’t get it… I thought you had to double tap jumping to glide until my old man told me how this problem annoys him… at first I didn’t believe him…
It seems to come down to how your keyboard reacts. For some people it never happens, for others it happens all the time.
They disabled it in most jumping puzzles but did not get all of them. There is one that was a series of short hops and the mesmer I was with just had me walk over to below the end. Where it REALLY gets annoying is vistas because they did not disable it at all there from the ones I have tried. It makes it easy for most but in some it is a real pain.
BTW, can people clarify what they mean by ‘old dailies’? There has been at least 3 systems so it is like saying ‘I want the old LA’. A bit of ambiguity there.
Does the OP want the previous model? The original one?
I would vote no, as noted by many this was a buy-to-play, for me it was the key selling point. I like the idea that I can cut down on my monthly education budget without having to totally give up a game I enjoy. You might want to look at what you are offering too and/or. do it as an option — while unlocking common stuff may look like a good deal to new players vets have a good deal of them unlocked already
It takes maybe 30 min to run from VB to DS; likely less. You do not need to do any events in TD in order to gain access to DS.
…Great. You run to Dragon Stand. Then what?
If it’s not 30-minutes before event restart, nothing. That’s what. If you’re not in the bloated LFG squad waiting to do the event, then nothing.
gg, Anet.
And? Their issue was that they did not have access to the map yet.
“And?” I just spelled out the “and” for this. Getting to Dragon Stand is only half the problem. Ignoring that is just being utterly callous and oblivious. Having Dragon Stand events is worse than having a daily rotation boss, because of how inaccessible they are.
There’s no excuse to yield to bad design just for the sake of being contentious. And please remove activities from the daily PvE rotation. The activities are not PvE.
They are PvE.
Wait, what?
A game activity that is competitive against other players is PvE?
No.
Daily Activity is PvP, it’s just not accessed through the PvP interface.
There are three game modes: sPvP, PvE, WvW. Which one does it fit in? Certainly not sPvP or WvW.
Answer: Mu. Your question is wrong.
Also, activities are:
- player versus player
- with set, structured skills.
Activities are much more sPvP than any other category. To ignore that is simply being dense for the sake of arguing. But, to refer to the misguided question of “where does Daily Activity belong: PvE, PvP, or WvW?” The answer is none of them. It belongs in a trash bin of bad ideas. It most closely resembles PvP, but it isn’t, so ANet ought to just drop it and make the Activities rewarding enough on their own.
Read their post. I was responding strictly to what they wrote. Whether or not the events can be done solo or having to rely on a group wasn’t part of what we were discussing.
It’s not wrong. There are three game modes. It does not match sPvP. Activities are fun mini games that players could play. just because you compete with other players does not make it any less PvE.
PVE = Player Vs Environment
PVP = Player Vs Player
You are specifically competing against other players/teams (did you think those other players are just really good AIs). In at least Sansun Survival they are shooting at you. You get a score at the end. That is no PVE thing I have ever seen where you cooperate with other players, not kill them.
