Just an unpopular opinion here, maybe because we weren’t supposed to care about the fire it leaves behind, but the actual attack at the end of the rush and the gap closer.
takes cover
I know right! Actually, if you are traited right and wearing the proper gear, that attack can hit pretty hard! If I’m not mistaken I’ve hit for 5-6k with that attack before. I was shocked when it happened because I was only trying to chase down an opponent in WvW and it dropped him lol.

You meant this to be one of those posts where the solution is right in front of everyone’s eyes and no one notices it. On top of this, it’s so simple that you only have to merely state it get everyone’s attention, rather than explaining your position in greater detail.
You were successful. +1
It’s a tough situation to be sure. If all four of your teammates aren’t playing well, I’d say it’s mostly just bad luck and there isn’t too much you can do. However, if it’s only one or two, I’d say try and keep an eye on them. Oftentimes they don’t necessarily have bad strategy, they just don’t have the greatest of strategies. As much as it pains you to do it, you may have to submit to their lesser strategy and just hope things work out.
In general, solo que has just caused me too many face palms to count. So instead of always playing to win, I’d say just try to think about it from a different perspective. Play to better yourself, and just to have fun. Many times I’ve been slaughtered because my team wasn’t very efficient, but I, myself, was kicking butt. It was a fun match in the end even though I lost and I felt good because I knew I’d played my best.
Sirloin, you’re like a kid who eats his cake and then complains because he doesn’t have it anymore.
You can’t go 100% condition and expect to win against everything. The trait is fine. Your build is not.
Even if I’m in a 4v5, I don’t go AFK. I’d rather it take a little longer and have some fun killing people than just sit around and do nothing.
Same. Plus, I can’t tell you how many 4v5’s I’ve won because a few guys on my team decided to go into beast mode. I can understand quitting if the match is just very lopsided, but I never stop from the beginning. I was in a 4v5 team arena match the other day and we lost 495-500. Now that was some intense fun!
I think of it like super smash brothers. Everyone gets beat up and dies a lot, but everyone has fun either way. Also, everyone knows who’s the best. (And who chooses pit just to grab the smash ball and cheese it up lol)
I’m sure you earned plenty on your journey to 1,000. Going from 999 to 1,000 shouldn’t grant you anymore than any other level. Although I agree a title would be nice. I don’t wear titles anyways, though, because I think they’re lame.
The key to your entire post is summed up when you said, “For a condition Necro.” Either stop playing full condition, or don’t complain when an Ele has the upper hand.
Also, your suggestion doesn’t make much sense considering once you’re at 10-20% health, the conditions will already be applied and immunity to any further conditions will be trivial.
Having been testing diamond skin Ele’s for several months now, I can say that fighting a condi Necro is no easy task. Yes, I can generally beat up the Necro a fair amount before he drops me below 90% but once he does, I am literally toast. To beat pure condi necros I have to almost play perfectly against the class. If I make one mistake and my hp drops, it’s over.
The sum things up, I don’t believe diamond skin needs a change. Running diamond skin in the first place means give up many important traits for the Ele, and it only gives a slight front loaded advantage against most condi specs. It’s only the pure condi specs that have an issue and they shouldn’t complain because, if they play their cards right, even they can beat the Ele.
Send a good Ranger or Ele to stop him. They have enough stability to last the fight and drop the engi.
Hello Folks,
I use the Rune of Speeed . (edit for kittens)
Am I the only one?Just curious,
AMO
You’re not the only one, I know many people who us it. I used it awhile back, but now I just run signet of x (Whichever gives 25% movement on that class.)
I agree that it’s very valuable. I mean, if you’re like a bunker class you won’t need speed much, but if you’re meant for rotating from point to point and dropping the enemy, you’ve got to be able to get there in time.
Isnt it sad that you only REALY need Warrior, Elementalist and Guardian in 2 of the 3 modes of the game. All other classes are suboptimal, gimmick utility (mesmer) or just plain inferior. You would not notice any difference in both modes if you would remove the other 5 classes. (Well yes WvW would lack thieves that swarm it like mosquitos but in the grand scheme of things of zerg fighting they are irrelevant.)
Cant agree more. ANET failed so hard to remove dat “HOLY TRINITY”. Idea is nice but they always kept story n general PvE in mind, which leads to no PvP, WvW or Dungeon balance at all. They where close, but failed.
Just my 2 cents.
Just to clarify, which game are you talking about?
Hmm in my experience immobilize hasn’t been a problem. Sure, there have been times when it got me killed, but no more than any other mechanic.
Of course, I mostly play my diamond skin Ele so usually whenever people try to immobilize me I just laugh at them wasting their cool downs and then go blow em up.
B. Reith, Owl City, Farewell Fighter, Twenty One Pilots, Lecrae, and many, many more.
I’m more a musician than a gamer so I listen to just about everything. Just not much mainstream…#dathipsterswag
As somebody who is generally supportive of the ArenaNet developers, perhaps to a fault (as I’m often called a “white knight”), and somebody who has mostly stopped reading/responding to these boards because of the toxicity, I have this to say…
Devs are busy. They do read (let’s say “skim” because that’s probably more accurate?) these threads. Understood. Taking the time to develop a well-crafted response is probably not something they can all do.
But please, please: it would go leaps and bounds for them to just put a quick, “Interesting ideas here, keep going” every so often. It would take 30 seconds but would lead to so much more red-tag visibility here.
A little bit of positive encouragement goes a long way. Any manager knows it. Heck, any guild leader knows it. It might be worth trying here to see if things improve.
Agreed. They don’t have to paint us a fairy tale rainbow unicorn land. They can be honest and just say, “This is what’s up.” Or, as you suggested, just ask for ideas. The point is, we will see that they aren’t just ignoring us. It goes a very long way! +1
Much scrub, much noob, much suck…
Just kidding. Ignore the haters and kick butt. Play what you love; love what you play.
This looks so dang fun, dude! Well done!
According to that attachment, CnD must hit for next to nothing as it is equal to the empty set (zero with stroke through it). ;0)
Hmm. Well in that case, in accordance with proper algebraic equations and mmo mentality,…CnD needs buff!!!
The problem is just too dang hard!
Seriously, though. You know you’ve been playing too much teef when you’re seeing it in your Algebra problems…
Nah, you can’t get stolen from haha. That would suck big time. xD
So instead of seeing a little variety of theives they will now all be s/d.
This. I’m laughing at everyone who thinks thief is getting in any ways, “Nerfed.” Thieves will be just fine and just as bursty as before. The only change you’ll see is that builds with stealth become less viable. Considering S/D is all about evading and shadow stepping, nothing is going to change.
All I can say is, “Welcome to MMO’s.” I’ve never observed more hostile, unforgivable communities in any other area of life.
Nonetheless, there are amazing people around if you can find them. I’m not, “Amazing” but if you and your friend want someone else friendly to chill with, hit me up! I certainly won’t go dissing up levels or new players or anything like that. I just like hanging with cool people and having fun.
Does anybody know when the next season is? I quite enjoyed having some achievements to fulfill in WvW and knowing that I’d be getting a reward for spending time there. Don’t get me wrong, I love WvW and still play it a ton without the reward, but it’s still nice to have. You feel me?
So yeah, does anybody know if or when the next season will begin? I mean I originally assumed it would be seasonal, but we haven’t really had one for summer so…?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
Before the nerf you could cast armor of earth, use other stun breakers, use your elite and heal while in it.
They nerfed those 4 things in a snap without think 1 seconds about all the gameplay combos they would break and ruin. Even a year after it playing an ele isn’t as fun as it used to be.
It’s still pretty darn fun, though.
Tbh i think it’s best if the tooltip said “do not use this utilitie”.
Thanks for the laugh! Too true.
I agree, wvw has become rather stale with the same matchups and the same places to build siege every week. Edge of the mists is a great fun addition but its getting a bit full of politics and people screaming about match fixing which is kind of impossible but a map full of people screaming is an annoyance. WvW needs some new maps on rotation but as stated – anet gets nothing from it. I feel that WvW is the real endgame though, its where you just sort of get drawn to and it is a hell of a lot of fun. It needs refreshing and a tie in to the gem store would be great but i’m stumped as to what to add – maybe keeps get a different look if owned by your guild? different wall textures etc.
I like this idea! Or perhaps you unlock skins for siege weapons to make them look real funky and stuff when you drop them?
Did I miss something? Or can’t you just chain two fears together?
As an Ele, I agree with the OP. There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and after suffering playing as a nerfed profession for awhile, you’ll be a baws once you finally get buffed back up.
I love me some sPvP solo queue! Especially when it puts me at sky hammer!
I always keep quiet in spvp. Some people can be so easily provoked and think they designed the maps to be played one way, can be enough if u say “i cap far then i run mid and help” and biggest flame war can start and u end up being blocked for no particular reasons.
Best way to pvp = enjoy it, dont take it too serious.
Anyone who listens to this advice is wise.
I’d figure a rally. Ele’s tag everyone in fights so someone across the map would have taken a burning speed or metor at one point during the match and died.
Read his comments on this thread. Particularly the one before yours. xD
Wait, people think Necro’s are underpowered?
Male human ele since pre-launch
Is that…Hulk???!!!
Excellent suggestions. Particularly the earth shield one. +1
I’m not trying to be rude, but this sounds more like venting than constructive feedback. Some of the conclusions you have made just aren’t conclusions that you can come to.
There are no competitive ones.
False. (And I’m not necessarily referring to my build.)
I’ve not done a lot of PvP but whenever I have I’ve really enjoyed it on my Ele with D/D. Seems to be able to hold it’s own nowadays and I don’t think a lot of people can handle you shooting all over the place with Burning speed, teleport, mist form, etc and then a few lightning whips and a fire grab and they’re down.
I don’t want to hijack the thread but you’ve sort of mentioned it about the celestial amulet… Do actual armour stats not matter anymore in PvP? Is it purely the things you can change it the ‘PvP Build’ pop-up or is someone wearing Zerker armour different to someone wearing soldiers?
Yeah, all of your modifications for your pvp gameplay are modified in the “PvP build” pop up. The amulet you choose gives you all of your stats. (Plus the rune set and sigils you choose to equip) You do, however, only have access to the certain weapons that you are carrying on your person, though they don’t affect stats at all.
Just be more selfish lol. It sounds like you’re over committing to your team support, and leaving no room for sustainability. Just run something a little bit safer, and you’ll be a better support to your team anyways because you won’t be dropping as much.
I’m sure others have much better advice, though, because I barely PvE at all. Mostly I do sPvP and WvW roaming. XD
I’m quite pleased with my norn ele personally. Granted she’s female, though I suspect the outfit would still look good on male.
Nice! I especially like your choice of staff.
I once heard someone say, “All of the best gamers don’t say anything.” I try to live by that philosophy (unless of course communicating strategy on TS or something.)
I’ve been experimenting a lot lately with 30 earth builds and I think I may have stumbled upon something glorious. <Shifty eyes> If it’s successful, would you like me to pm you what I’ve come up with?
Yes please!
Pmed
Looks pretty solid to me! The thing about non-meta builds is that you don’t know just how strong or weak they are until you’ve already wasted tons of gold, time, and effort testing it. Haha good luck mate! I, for one, hope your build kicks freaking butt!
One tip I might give is to try testing it in sPvP first. Certainly, it’s a whole different ball game than WvW, but it can at least give you a broad view about your build. For example, let’s say you die extremely fast in SPvP before you even have a chance to fight back. That might be a good indication that it wouldn’t work in WvW. Or, if you find yourself being able to 1v2 fairly well in sPvP, then that might be a good indication that it will work ok in WvW.
Warning, you are about to hear something scary……………………………..
Warriors are not op they are in a pretty decent stage right now, the real issue is compared to warrior, other classes are up. I’d say as a class w/o comparing to others, warriors feel pretty balanced. The player base (that means you guys) have to stop calling for nerfs on warrior and start calling for buffs on the other classes to get them to where the warrior is. (yes there are some individual things that can be argued for being op) Overall, I feel the warrior is balanced because you can pretty much find a way to make any build you want work (meaning any weapon set or build structure) if we buff the other classes to that point we will be one huge step closer to balancing the game.Thank you for your time!
I couldn’t agree more! I was trying to explain this to someone just the other day. The ultimate goal should be to raise up every other class to where the warrior is at. Namely, a flexible profession that can be bent to fit just about any role, to an extent of course.
And for all you haters, I don’t play warrior.
NinjaEd.3946: “This pi**ing contest is going nowhere, just ignore the fools who call d/d cheese. I can pull out p/p and it’ll be called cheese by someone eventually, its just how some people are nowadays.”
I already had someone say I was running a cheese build for using p/p. I was just running around seeing if the uncommonness of it would kill people and it killed a lot so at least 4 people invited me to party and called my build cheese that should be nerfed. Their main reason was stealth was op even though I didn’t stealth for the entire fight. People just complain, its in their nature.
Amen, and amen!

In my experience, it’s only worth it if you have constructed a build around the focus from the beginning. Usually if you’ve already created a build for D/ D, focus will only take away your damage and provide you with more survivability.
I’m only rank 40 in SPvP so I suppose I can’t say too much, but in my experience the hardest opponents I’ve ever fought were WvW roamers. I can remember once getting by butt handed to me by a warrior who was brand new to SPvP but had been roaming since launch. Sure, he was a warrior, but the point is he was good and he hadn’t stepped foot in SPvP.
The simple truth is that no matter how cheap you might consider WvW, outnumbered fights train you to be a better pvper in general. It teaches you awareness, proper targeting, good usage of evades/defensive tactics, what various opponents are capable of, etc.

Op watch videos on youtube of good thiefs you can learn alot that way.
This is key. You need to be able to understand the fundamentals of going about attacking your foe. Watching YouTube videos has done wonders for me. (I’m not all that good, but I used to suck pretty bad so the difference margin is huge lol)
Oh, please. Just listen to yourself dude. +1 for useless drama.
The main reason why P/D is cheese is its ability to apply multiple stacks and multiple kind of conditions in almost an instant.
Example:
Pre-cast CnD -> Steal (poison) -> CnD (vulnerability) -> Sneak Attack (bleed) -> Shadow Strike (toment)Trait for Cloaked in Shadow to add blindness to CnD. Trait for Shadow’s Embrace and Rejuvenation to counter a fellow condition build. Trait for Bewildering Ambush to add Confusion to Steal. Then just auto-attack to maintain bleeding.
By that time, your target have multiple stacks and multiple kind of conditions in practically two skills.
It sounds to me like you have a problem with condition builds in general, and not just P/D thief.
