Yeah the pve players rage quitting is right. In the last two days I’ve had about six or seven matches (I only play around 8-10 a day) where a random player would type in chat, “Welp, I’m out…” or something along those lines and then just leave the match.

In some ways I don’t blame them though. There’s so many bull crap builds out there. I’m sure it’s a piece of a crap for a new pvper to handle.

Finisher Reset Bug

MightyMicah.7451

I’ve noticed that since the patch my finisher keeps reseting even after I’ve changed it. It seems to only reset after I log out or if I go to dye my gear or observe outfits from my hero panel. By reset I mean it will go back to the default flag finisher. It’s odd though because after I log out it will reset to a random finisher that I’ve used in the past. Either way, I wish it would stop resting.

Anyone else having this issue? I asked map chat in heart of the mists and many said they did.

I just think it’s a lame daily to begin with. I thought dailies were supposed to happen naturally. There’s nothing natural about creating an entire new character and crafting a build for it just to accomplish a daily. I already play four classes decently. Isn’t that enough for a measly daily?

The problem lies in the massive damage plus sustain. Take away the damage, or the sustain respectively. If the class is traited and such for sustain, then their damage is the issue. Find a way to nerf that. If they are traited and such for damage, then their sustain is the issue. No one should be able to have their cake and eat it too. That’s not balance.

Allow only solo or 5/5 queuing for ranked.

I agree man. I was about to post something similar. I tried three games yesterday and lost all three of them. I put up a good fight myself, and my team wasn’t bad, but we didn’t have TS and a planned comp so we just couldn’t compete. Afterwards I played about five unranked matches and won four of them.

I’d really like to stand a better chance by solo queuing. I feel like the new leaderboard and ladder system and stuff completely shut me out unless I hook up with a guild and start practicing and altogether losing my social life. lol

how that can be a fix?

P.S i dont play for quite some time, did anything change drastically????

Yes, warrior took constant nerfs and now they’re terrible at any kind of dueling. Still ok-ish in team play for their utilities, but most classes deal with them now without a problem.

Can’t remember the last time I lost to one in wvw…

The funny part is that this is exactly why I started warrior. I always play the under dog. I just love playing a class that isn’t overused and hated. It’s a challenge and it’s fun. I main Ele still, but eles are annoying as freaking crap. That’s why I don’t do meta on my ele.

Anyways, a bit more on topic, I don’t think warriors are all that bad. They do just fine if you know how to play them right. Sure, other classes have more cheese but one thing amazing about warriors is that they can get the heck out when they need to. Mobility, baby!

Also here’s a random quote, “You either live long enough to see yourself become the OP class, or die UP.”

Looks like you died UP. Well, sort of…adios bruh.

Will matchmaking be broken all weekend?

in PvP

MightyMicah.7451

lopsided matches from solo qr’s being matched vs team qr’s which the matchmaking system was supposed to prevent from happening. But some dev turned the feature off to stop that because he wasn’t going to be available to adjust qs for the weekend or something to that effect. So this weekend is a team q farming on solo q event weekend apparently.

Gotcha. I had noticed that I got put against a guild group several times. To be honest though I had a freakin ballin fun time. I lost like 70% of the matches I played but heck. I don’t give a crap as long as it’s fun. But I guess it should get fixed because I understand most people want balanced, fair matches. Can Rifle Warriors Ever Get Some Love?

in Warrior

MightyMicah.7451

I agree! I don’t think they should buff the rifle at all. Like no extra damage, speed, conditions, nothing like that. All they should do is increase the range or perhaps add a trait or two to increase the range. That way we could have a bit of a “sniper” class. I’ve wanted something like that since launch.

Lowering mobility of elementalist class

in Elementalist

Posted by: MightyMicah.7451

MightyMicah.7451

Currently elementalist is the most mobile class in the game

In the opinion of a number of people i’ve talked to…

Right the lightning – goes to far
Fire dash (3) – can dodge most projectiles and again is quite a far mover

This means that eles can continue to run without being locked down and go into water to heal as they run

I am all for mobility but this is quite ridiculous.

I’ve come to the ele forums to get ideas on how we can remove the large ammount of mobility while still keeping the class balanced?

When I saw the title of this thread, I got very confused. Since when was mobility for Ele’s something that needed to be nerfed?

Newbie Warrior Looking for Rifle Advice!

in Warrior

Posted by: MightyMicah.7451

MightyMicah.7451

Hey guys! I’m fairly new to warrior, but not by any means new to the game. I’ve played since launch with a couple breaks that amount in total to about 6 months down time. Anyways, I’m rank 49 in sPvP and I main Ele. I’ve faffed about on thief and Mesmer from time to time, but only briefly tried warrior in the past.

Yesterday I tried creating a warrior and found it insanely fun! There is just one problem. I love, love, love Rifle warrior! Without the rifle, I’d probably change to a different class. (It’s not that rifle is the only thing I love about warrior. I just simply love the rifle warrior play style.)

So my question is, is there a single viable build out there for WvW roaming or perhaps SPvP that will allow me to kick butt with a rifle? I don’t mind what other weapon I use, as long as rifle is the main deal. And I’m not looking for a “top” build or anything. I just want something that can be done. If there isn’t anything, I suppose I can begin the long road to crafting a build myself, but I would really appreciate any head starts, tips, or even a full fledged rifle warrior build that anyone has to offer.

Thanks in advance!

Suggestions to shave DD ele into balance.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: MightyMicah.7451

MightyMicah.7451

Hmm the way I see it is that might should get nerfed before anything else. The problem with Ele’s isn’t their amount of sustain. Every class should be able to sustain well if traited right and geared properly. The problem is that they have massive sustain while having very significant dps. Once we trim the dps, they’ll have to sacrifice sustain for more damage. If you nerf the sustain, however, then Ele’s will still have massive dps but will struggle when it comes to tanking.

What I’m trying to say is that their ability to tank is in balance. Their ability to deal damage is not. Fix the damage, (obtained through might stacks) and the tanks will adjust appropriately.

How to make SR more Balanced

in Profession Balance

Posted by: MightyMicah.7451

MightyMicah.7451

The skill doesn’t need a nerf. It’s already bad enough as is.

Now, I main elementalist so believe me, I understand just how annoying thieves can be. I can remember this one thief in WvW just would not leave me alone. She kept coming back to try and kill me and I would repeatedly beat her over and over, but she always managed to maintain a fraction of her health and then shadow refuge away. This literally happened about 12-15 times (not exaggerating, I promise.)

That being said, the skill should not get nerfed in any way. If you’ve ever played thief for yourself, you’d be shocked at just how annoying the enemy is. As soon as you cast shadow refuge it’s like an open invitation for everyone on the entire map to come and knock you out of it, or blast whatever aoe attacks are available. Once I even considered swapping it for another skill merely because it seemed to get me killed by attraction rather than saving me.

In essence, the skill is meant to save the thief. No matter how freaking annoying it can be at times, that is the purpose of the skill. And the thief has a hard enough time using it successfully even without a nerf.

Just my thoughts on the matter…

Knights/Soldiers D/F Power Elementalist

MightyMicah.7451

Don’t go for diamond skin. Diamond skin is totally op against condition specs as d/d ele with regeneration, healing from water attunement and evasive arcana + healing signet, on d/f however, you don’t have enough passive/“rotation-build-in” healing to make diamond skin effective.

From a very general perspective, I would suggest to try the following: The focus is a very strong offset weapon because of it’s amazing defensive utilities that have to be used wisely and situation dependend. Thus, the change from d/d to d/f is giving up the attunement rotation where you just blow everything thats ready. So I would strongly suggest to go for fresh air, so for example you can jump to earth, get the invuln. when you need it and jump back to lightning which also gives a nice little burst everytime.

So one thing I would try is:

- fresh air
- go a little bit to the zerker side of the force
- compensate the lack of healing and sustain with your focus utility defensive skills

I respect you, I respect your opinions, and I respect your conclusion.

I disagree, however. I’ve crafted a D/F diamond skin build that works wonders and can hold it’s own against just about any spec out there. The healing on it certainly isn’t anything compared to meta D/D, but it’s not too shabby for healing either.

Honestly @op, I would recommend the following steps of advice for your build.

1. Come up with an idea for an Elementalist build. Whether that be “I wanna cleanse conditions like it’s nothing” or, “I wanna deal as much dps as possible” just make sure it is an idea for a build that you will enjoy playing.

2. Don’t pursue this idea just yet. Familiarize yourself with anything and everything Ele. That means learning meta builds, traits, weapons and their respective skills, etc. If you don’t have the money to purchase gear for said builds, that’s ok. At least learn them and perhaps try them out in sPvP a little bit.

3. Now you’re ready to pursue your idea. Begin looking through sigils, runes, gear stats, etc., and see what you can come up with. Once you’ve crafted your master plan, attempt it in sPvP. If it fails there, determine what cause it to fail and continue fine tuning it.

4. Once you have finally fine tuned a build that you believe to be a success, begin acquiring the exotic gear that you need to test it out. As the testing continues, if you see that your build is indeed a success, I’d recommend doing a decent amount of sPvP to completely affirm the success of the build. Try it in high level gameplay, try it in low level gameplay, pve, WvW roaming, WvW capping, etc.

5. The final step is optional, but after all of that testing, if the build has still held up overall, go ahead and pursue ascended gear. Then just sit back and relax with your extra stats and your custom built (and shall I say extremely fun!) build.

These are obviously broad steps which are easier said than done, but it’s all the advice I have to offer. In the end, I believe it is well worth the time and effort because it’s so fun! And you’re not stuck playing some “meta build” that might not even interest you. Good luck, mate! Hope I helped!

Everyone (except the balance guy) knew that if they increased the sustain of ele without nerfing the damage, the class was going to become OP. It is disappointing that ANET couldn’t see that happening ahead of time.

So what boost ele got? I haven’t notice any difference.

You must not PvP. Thats’ where they buffed it and created a stupidly OP class.

(assuming you’re talking about d/d celestial in sPvP)
But was it the buff to Elementalist (evade on Burning Speed, Blast Finisher on water 3, Cleansing Water ICD removed like it is in WvW/PvE, and Signet of Restoration normalized to it’s WvW/PvE equivalent) or the buff to Celestial that has brought ele back into the meta?

2 same-type Sigils brought the Ele into the meta.

That and honestly just the fact that other classes got overall nerfed.

Because it is really, REALLY terrible XD

This is the kind of Elementalist that gets 1-shotted by a backstab or blows up instantly in a teamfight.

Hell, any mobile opponent can eat the damage, avoid even more incoming damage and just shred the glassy Elementalist apart.

You can’t really solo or fight in teams, other than showing off, the build is worthless.

Yes. Once again, I would like to encourage nobody to use this build. You will be sad.

I love it… but it’s not for normal people.

Well said man haha. When I was just getting into pvp/WvW on elementalist about a year ago, I tried this build and was very disappointed. Obviously things were slightly different back then, but the concept remained. I constantly found myself on the ground and only ever got like two or three brilliant downs. That’s when I began thinking for myself, broke away from the meta, and crafted my own build. Haven’t tried fresh air or the meta build since.

But! It was a heck of a lot of fun to mess around with and I’d encourage anyone with 2+ Ele’s to give it a shot. I learned a lot in the process of trying it out.

WvW Solo roaming options?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I can see the nice synergy with Cleansing Water, Soothing Disruption, and cantrips (and Elemental Attunement helps too).

As I mentioned, I really like the focus, but I don’t like the scepter, so D/F seems like it would be useful for me. But is it viable? Does D/F lack damage vs. D/D? If so, can I use the focus skills (e.g earth #4, #5, air #4) to make up the defense provided by cantrips, and then take more offense-based traits/utilities? I’ve tried D/F with signets or conjures but haven’t come up with anything reasonable. That said, I am not opposed to D/D +cantrips either. Is D/D signets viable? Or too fragile/slow for roaming?

I also like staff, but I need to be able to roam. Is this impossible for staff? (e.g. if I can’t deal with a thief, then I can’t roam with staff).

I have a build I’ve been fine tuning for over a year now that is D/F and it works extremely well in SPvP as well as straight up WvW roaming. Would you like me to pm you it? It’s not even close to meta, but I believe it’s easily as competent.

Some people try for months to get particular vistas, pois, and skill points. To prevent them from getting it a pretty messed up move. Sadly, this is an online community and people find it fun ruining another’s day and then hiding behind the excuse, “it’s a warzone.” That’s like taking candy from a baby and then saying, “it’s not healthy for him.”

but once they add another game more, or for general wvw roaming these balance is toxic and vastly overpowered.

If LB ranger are OP what about perplexity engineer, PU mesmer, perplexity thief, fearmancer and all those condi bunker specs ?

I sometimes play a fearmance with signet of spike in 1v1 and people die in few seconds, should we nerf necro ? I mean, it has best Hp in game, many sources of fear, death shroud, it can cast more condition than most classes can clean, there’s no counterplay, it’s OP.

These builds are strong as well, but still they have counter play. EVERY class has access to both stunbreaks and condition clears. There is no counterplay if you cant even REACH your enemy, WHILE hes doing stupidly high damage. The range indicated on Longbow traited is 1500, but its actually much more, this combined with the high speed and velocity of the shots makes it very reliable. Sure you can dodge, but so can the ranger dodge any CC or Gapcloser you aim at them, and even if you keep your dodges for the rapid fire, the AA damage alone is enough to wither you down until the next Rapid Fire is up, all while you have a pet next to you fearing rooting and knocking you down while even doing damage on top.

being in your face, hitting you with short range skills, actively following you to try to down you = OP, pls nerf

camping on ledge and burst damage whenever skill off cooldown = Nah its cool

Well previously most team dedicated someone to be a roamer. Now that roamer can deal with the LB ranger. And trust me, unless you wave your hands and jump towards the range from the front, you will be able to deal with him. For ranger to deal really high damage he needs to be made of tissue paper. A sneeze is enough to down him. Rapid fire seems op in itself, but if you look at what it costs to be able to deal that type of damage, I think a LOT of survivability has to be sacrified in the process. So I don’t think its OP. Is it annoying? Yes. OP? No.

A tissue paper ranger camping on a ledge that requires significant effort to get to, armed with a push no less, is no different from a tank ranger in terms of how fragile he is, because you cannot hit him if you are not a ranged character.

Plus when you finally get near him he uses all 26 1/2 evades and then jumps away again. lol

This is that new sound. Ya’ll ain’t ready.

everyone is OP!

@Atherakhia (I tried quoting but it would be too long a post.)

What are you talking about? I was talking about the balance of a ranger’s power build particularly as it relates to the changes to RF. Not about usefulness in a Zerg. A Mesmer could be totally underpowered and suck in any kind of pvp or 1v1 setting, but it’s extremely useful to a Zerg due to portaling and stealthing. I have seen a massive influx of rangers roaming and in Tpvp. I cannot speak for zerging, but that’s a completely separate issue.

As far as comparing RF to volley, that is not a valid comparison. We are talking about an entirely different weapon with different skills and, oh by the way, 900 range. People aren’t upset because of the damage they are recieving. When I get bursted by a fresh air Ele, I don’t mind. Why? Because I know that the enemy knew exactly what they were doing and that I got outplayed. Being bursted from stealth at 1500 range is not being outplayed. Sure, I can dodge but that is not counterplay. I could dodge a pve boss who one shots me, but that doesn’t mean that I have any kind of valid counter play. If it did we might as well just give everyone a button that one shots because hey, dodging is counter play right? Obviously this is ridiculous.

What I’m saying is that we need some way to fight this, or it needs to be toned down. Reflects are great, but when the ranger can keep firing an 8k burst every 10 seconds, your reflect(s) run(s) out fast. Instead of adding some new boon or condition, let’s just tone the ranger down a bit. I’m not suggesting any insane nerf, just give them a higher cool down and a tell. That’s what every other class has. I don’t see why ranger should be any different. Especially when they accomplish their burst from 1500 range…

How can it be ‘everything else’ when everything else existed before this change and Rangers were undeniably a free kill to every class in the game? The change to RF is just that good that it was the tipping point the class needs? And if so, why haven’t we seen Rangers dominating anything since the update?

The only thing Rangers really got, other than the RF change, is the change to signets. Only one of which reallly has any impact on damage.

As to the ‘not every class’ argument, the only class that’s truly at a significant disadvantage when it comes to being able to counter the power Ranger’s playstyle is Necromancers. But they also have great access to conditions which the spec is notoriously weak against. Plus they’re ranged.

Do you have an example of a class that doesn’t have enough tools at their disposal to close the gap initially and reclose it once every 10 seconds for however long it takes to deal with a glass ranger?

What does “long range” conditions or damage help at all, if the rangers “long range” is just 800 units bigger then the max range of other classes? Glass rangers are easy to kill when you get close and keep at it, its the sheer amount of tools the ranger kit offers to create distance, both regarding CCing the enemy and movement skills.

Necromancers currently have no reliable means of getting close. Mesmers (unless some PU cheesy thing) may have gap closers and some reliable long range damage, but rangers just have flat out more damage and more range as well as more tools to creating distance.

In the end it was the many small things that all caused a power increase to the longbow ranger to create this powercreep.

Again, you’re grossly inflating the values of these tools. Aside from easy access to signets, the Ranger gained no utility/defense skills in this patch. All they gained was burst on RF that’s only slightly more powerful than volley is for a rifle warrior.

If Ranger survivability was even a fraction of what you’re trying to convince us it is, the class wouldn’t be (and still is) the laughing stock of WvW, GvGs, and Guild groups. Even in PvP people are mentioning they’re seeing no new Rangers in higher ranked matches.

What you’re trying to sell us doesn’t mesh with what people are actually seeing in game.

Straight up lies. Rangers have always been a very good option, at least for roaming. Case in point: Gladomer. Just because not many people play Ranger doesn’t mean it’s under powered. There were many very skilled rangers I came into contact with on a daily basis. Even in Tpvp I would occasionally find excellent rangers. Among “top tier” Tpvp There has been a humongous influx of rangers. Unless you’re referring to sub 100, you’re flat out lying. For the most part I Tpvp every day (Team arena or solo queue depending on the day) and I generally sit around 200-300 rank in team arena and 500-600 in solo arena. Just yesterday I played two matches while queued up for Archeage. The first match there were three rangers on my team, and two on the enemy team. The second match there were two rangers on my team and two on the enemy team. This has been my experience ever since the patch.

The guy above said that rangers have the “highest burst.” That isn’t true because fresh air Ele’s can burst for insane damage right? Well sure, many classes can, but not by pushing one freaking button! Rangers just press two and hope for the best. If it’s reflected they dodge backward, use a few skills to distance themselves, and then press two again and hope for the best. The point is that the skill has a very short cool down, practically no telegraph, and the capability to reduce your hp by 33-50%. These three factors make it unfair. Before the patch, we could tank the first few arrows while closing in. Now, it’s simply too much to tank and forces us to use a counter. But how does one counter a skill that keeps reappearing every 10 seconds and bursts for 8k? You would have to have constant access to dodges, gap closers, reflects, stability, etc.

Personally I think that is too much to ask for just one skill. What’s the solution? Ultimately I believe the solution is just a longer cool down. Make it 20-30 seconds and I’m down. I mean so far I’ve seen rangers kill good players from 1,000-1,500 range and they don’t even need to swap weapons. That’s balanced?

Not to mention you’ve got constant vigor upkeep. Why not use a few dodges? A dodge unused is a dodge wasted.

Well I’ve been cursing out Rangers since the patch, but I’m noob so I know it’s just me being bad.

Well I wouldn’t encourage cursing, but don’t feel too bad. It’s a whole new strategy that we are learning to deal with. I’ve raged a few times myself
