I’m from JQ and I’m a bit embarrassed by some of the posts here. While we’ve definitely improved, and I’m proud of our server, it’s stupid to dismiss that this all happened during a major holiday. I’m looking forward to seeing what we do when everyone is at full capacity next week.
Go JQ!
War – or in this case a simulation of it – doesn’t stop just because there is a holiday. Your argument is just another variation of the night capping argument in which people blame losing to other servers on the other servers capping their towers and keeps during the night while they were asleep. That line of thinking discredits the work of a lot of people who play in “non prime time” hours. The truth is that JQ has a lot of hard working, dedicated players around the clock and our coverage is just better at the moment. I think the only appropriate response is good job.

How could I be more clear? They jumped into the tower from the outside ledges surrounding the tower. No gate down, no wall down, no Mesmer inside. The jump exploit happened. I have reported them.
I’m pretty sure swearing alone isn’t going to get anyone banned. Harassing players with swear laden ad hominem attacks, however, should. It’s bad for the community as a whole and, with respect to pvp, poor sportsmanship. While i agree with the Stephen fry’s quote about swearing, , I don’t think he is at all arguing for swearing as it is used in games such as LoL, wherein the players bully each other and try to make others feel as bad as possible. He is simply discussing the prejudice against swearing and those who use swear words.
I’d love to get more NA players, but we could definitely use some more EU players as well. Come join the awesome JQ community!
I don’t think this is a valid complaint. Certainly the evidence in the game suggests otherwise. Guild Wars 2 favors adaptability over choosing just melee or just ranged. And it should be this way — you have two weapons at your disposal after all. Requiring players to adapt adds variety and a poses a challenge to the seasoned gamer: what weapon set best suits the current situation. Some bosses are better to go in melee range while others are more effectively damaged via ranged weapons. No one should be able to run up to every mob and melee them while a healer covers their poor game play. That is not GW2.
That being said, you can undoubtedly use melee weapons in most endgame content. I’d like to know exactly how ranged appears to be favored over melee? Where is the evidence? Let’s take a look at some popular dungeons that I am familiar with:
—CoE: you can melee all the trash and bosses with the exception of Subject Alpha. You can probably even melee him if you are good at dodging.
—Arah path 3: you can go melee on everything including giganticus lupicus. Did you see the video of the warrior soloing him with melee weapons?
—HotW: you can use close range weapons on everything with the excpetion of the underwater bosses.
—CM: you can go melee on everything with the exception of the blunderbuss boss.
—Twlight Arbor: players generally use ranged on the nightmare tree. Maybe some have succeeded with melee? I imagine that it is possible.
FotM may be the one exception because of the difficulty scaling in which the bosses damage output increases to the degree that they can one shot you at higher levels. However, I’m currently level 30, play a d/d or s/d elementalist, and have used daggers with little problems on the following bosses: cliffside boss, uncategorazable jumping puzzle robot bosses, champion mole boss, blizzard level berserker boss, and on lower levels mossman, though I now use s/d on him. I do not go with melee weapons on the ice elemental, dredge mining suit, or the fire shaman, though if i could weapon swap as some professions can, I’m sure I would swap and unload a close ranged burst on him, then move out and swap back to ranged.
You have options. I just don’t see how there is really favoritism for one or the other. As far as balanced is concerned, in at least this aspect of the game there seems to be a good deal of it. As for the other parts, well that is an issue to take up on another subforum.

How can I get snowman/holiday finishers? I’ve been collecting gifts in WvW with the hopes of getting one but have yet to find any. Are they acquired in spvp only?
The official statement is confusing because the way that it is written provides for two possibilites. “Non-infused Ascended Rings will no longer drop after scale 24.” I read this to mean Non-Infused Ascended Rings will no longer drop at level 26 and beyond. However, they could mean at level 24 and beyond. Which is it?
I would like clerics ascended. Even something with same healing as an orichalcum cleric ring with better power and toughness.
Some people make the mistake of watching dapheonix, one of the best d/d elementalists in the game right now, and using what he does in his videos to make generalizations about the opness of d/d eles. Don’t make that mistake. He is an amazing and highly skilled player, and players of his skill level will and should be able to do amazing things. The only thing op in this video is dapheonix himself. Your typical d/d ele will still blow his cool downs when pressured, get bull rushed, and go down to 100 blades/evisceration.

ZX aren’t hackers or exploiters and they aren’t nubs or retreads—whatever that means—Zortek of Aco, a guild with nary a footprint in WvW. You haven’t seen ZX because you either have been playing at different times or on different borderlands, or you are relatively new to WvW on JQ.
ZX is a small but entirely respectable and dedicated Japanese guild of guys and girls who have been on Jade Quarry since beta weekend 3(proof blog post 8-13 http://www.wearezac.com/zaxis/modules/d3blog/). They are actually the reason that I originally moved to JQ, even though I ended up not playing with them so much.
ZX has scheduled WvW days and primarily play as a group on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Japanese primetime or NA mornings. They also have two commanders, XaikyoGrn, who I haven’t seen around much lately, and Canychan, who makes much more regular appearances on the borderlands. I’m sure you can attempt to talk to them if you think there are any problems, but remember that they may not have the best commands of English.
Anyway, as for their character, I will vouche for them. I’m sure they weren’t exploiting. Xaikyo has his own twitch channel and films most of his games so you can check it out yourself, although you’ll probably be bored. http://ja.twitch.tv/xaikyo. Either the original accusation is baseless—perhaps the wall fell for a moment and the accuser didn’t notice before it was rebuilt <—- this happens—or if something strange did occur, it probably happened as CarelessKrow said: they glitched through the door and had to make the decision to let themselves be killed or fight back.

All of those dungeons provide armor with very different sets of stats. Caudecus’s Manor is magic find +, Twilight Arbor I’m not sure about, Honor of the Waves is power/vitality/toughness, and Arah is power/crit and toughness/power. Perhaps you should begin by deciding what stats you would like your armor to have and then choose the dungeon that provides that set of armor.
With regard to level of difficulty and time required, Arah will be the hardest and most time consuming.
This fractal is unbeatable and will make people stop doing FotM. I think it should be removed from the fractal rotation until fixed.
I reluctantly attempted level 17 Colossus fractal tonight, and as stated previously, it seems unbeatable in its current state. The aoe blast has greater than 1500 range, which is bad enough, but trying to kite around 9 chanters during the whole process is just impossible. If anyone has any idea of how to complete this awful fractal I’d like to know. The strategies above do not seem to work. Pulling the boss away from chanters and into a hallway results in the entire party wiping to aoe blasts. There is just no way to escape his range.
This needs to be fixed immediately! I too am losing 3k hp while in ride lightning. Will I down myself if I use it to escape a fight?
JQ is not full and locked. It’s a high population server throughout most weekdays.
I’m surprised no one has mentioned Jade Quarry. We are a competitive, though friendly, long-standing tier 1 server with a fantastic and dedicated WvWvW community that has earned the respect of our peers and rivals.
Currently, though, Jade Quarry is in a precarious state: not yet T2 material but lacking the man power to make a push for 1st or even 2nd. Our numbers are so few that we often only have the man power for one map, if that, during NA primetime, and it is not uncommon to see outmanned buffs in Jade Quarry’s borderlands at certain points during the day. It goes without saying that you will not experience queues on JQ, with the exception of the occasional five minute Friday queue.
If you want to see your guild have an immediate impact as well as join an awesome WvW community, please consider JQ. You will receive an enthusiastic welcome, I assure you.

I payed about 1.5 gold for items just a moment ago, and they did not arrive in my pick up tab. I’ve already submitted a bug report; however, what can we do about the TP? Should we just avoid using it altogether now?
Jade Quarry needs people for WvWvW. Go to any other server if you want to PvE. Just not JQ. You’d be wasting a slot for someone who might actually help represent the server.
As far as I know, JQ doesn’t have good EU coverage. I don’t know if we have any EU guilds at all. We need some. However, we do have excellent Asia primetime coverage from FOO, FdE, two DC guilds, I think I’ve seen FIRE around that time too, some HD, ZX, and a few others I’ve forgotten to mention. Whenever those guys decide to stay up all night we do well during EU primetime. Also, don’t forget that many may have had the day off, so that might have added to our seemingly excellent EU timezone coverage. Truthfully, though, JQ could really benefit from a few organized EU guilds transferring onto the server.
I whole-heartedly agree. But, I think the GW2 team considers WvW to be PvE, or if not PvE some nether-world between PvE and PvP, and that’s really a problem. Most of my concerns about ascended gear would be allayed by only allowing exotics and legendaries into WvW. Listen to this suggestion Anet! We neither need nor want to get on a gear treadmill in order to stay competitive. Keep ascended gear out of WvW! *Bonus: This policy would also be beneficial to all the crafters who still want to sell their exotics to eager WvWers.
(edited by Minoru.1237)
This dungeon is boring, mind-numbingly repetitive, and shows little innovation in design from previous dungeon instances. I ran the dungeon twice, and by the third instance of the first run I was already worn out by its derivative quality. I’m certainly not running this dungeon again, and I don’t see how any one—not even the most hardcore of the hardcore gamers—could get any enjoyment from it after grinding it over 100 times for one piece of ascended gear. It’s a blight on all that was once promising about GW2.
(edited by Minoru.1237)
Skins are optional. It’s only necessary to grind for them if you desire the skin. Ascended gear will be required to remain competitive in WvWvW and to explore the dungeon to its depths. Huge difference.
Camouflagz, I’m on Jade Quarry—have been since launch—and I intend to quit the game if this horrendous ascended armor carrot-on-a-stick approach to progression is implemented. I’m sure there are many more on JQ who, like me, see this update as a contradiction of the core principles anet outlined in their highly publicized manifesto. I will miss all the wonderful friends I’ve made on the server, but a tedious never ending gear grind and gating of content is just too intolerable to put up with.
(edited by Minoru.1237)
As someone who plays mostly WvW I am dreading the introduction of Ascended armor. It creates an unnecessary and potentially game breaking gear grind that will pull people away from the borderlands and force players into grinding dungeons just to stay competitive in WvW. I’m also furious that all of the exotic gear that I worked so hard for has now been made irrelevant.
There is only one solution to this horrendous development. Ascended gear should have the same stats as exotics.
(edited by Minoru.1237)
As an avid WvWer on JQ, I definitely agree that we need more daytime players on the server, but I think it would help to be a little more specific about what times we are actually talking about, since many of the players we are aiming to recruit would primarily be international players and guilds.
From about 11am to 7 pm US eastern JQ is lacking in players to the extent that we often get the outmanned buff in our own borderlands. I think part of that time frame is equivalent to EU primetime, so I’m sure JQ would enthusiastically welcome any EU guilds looking to transfer to our server.

At level 7 I went into WvW with my mesmer and leveled him to 80 there. This was about a month ago. If you are not keen on PvE then WvW is certainly a viable leveling option. Just don’t get discouraged if you die a lot. You don’t have the level 80 gear so you won’t be as powerful as someone with all exotics at 80. Just keep on fighting despite that and you’ll get to 80 no problem.
Then I see him do the mist thingy and poof he is gone. I waited for 2 minutes and the doors haven’t opened. He went poof and disconnected/ported…. how is that fair?
This isn’t a valid argument. To begin with, from what you’ve described we know he or she didn’t port because they wouldn’t be able to during battle, i.e. mist form does not remove you from battle. Moreover, any class can log off during a losing battle, even after they are downed, and the most egregious of all, just before they are finished. It happens on all classes, all the time. What does this have to do with mist form? Nothing.
Seems like engineers, thieves, mesmers and eles can all do that. Why not give it to every class then and make it fair.
Elementalists cannot stealth. They can, however, be targeted and bound even while in mist form, which is something that should be considered a bug since mist form is supposed to provide invulnerability during its duration. In any case, perma stealth and what eles and mesmers and engineers can do are in no way comparable.
Hey daphoenix, I’m back to post a reassessment of your build, and what a build it is! Earlier I stated that I had been underwhelmed with this build in spvp after having trouble surviving the initial burst of thieves, and I did have trouble, but there was an unfortunate reason for that: user error/a.d.d. during the gearing stage.
After I took a week off from spvp, I returned only to realize that although I had placed in superior runes of the dolyak as per your suggestions, I had forgotten to switch out my berserker’s amulet and jewel, thus missing out on almost all the essential toughness of this build. Doh. After swapping in the soldier’s I’m happy to report that I’m now having a much more successful go in spvp.
As for the WvW gear, I spent a few weeks saving and got cleric’s gear with 6 superior runes of the earth and a triforge pendant and am currently sitting on about 1640 toughnes. However, I see that you’ve recently swapped from dolyak’s to 2 monks, water, and major water. I’d like to ask a a few questions about this change: This swap probably made a significant change to your overall toughness. Does this mean that you’ve changed your mind about how much toughness is enough for WvW? Previously I think you had suggested 1700 toughness. What are your thoughts on this number now?
As always thanks for the advice. I’m looking forward to more great videos.
For all weapons in my main hand I use a superior sigil of battle. Since our attunement switching counts as a weapon swap you will constantly receive stacks of might. For off hand dagger I use a superior sigil of bloodlust for an extra 250 power.
I expected that response. It’s not a l2p issue, I hope. Actually, I was a bit confused by the way you’ve written out some of the trait numbers. I ran with 10 in earth as your initial build link displayed, but I see that you later recommended using 20. Perhaps that extra 10 in earth would have made a noticeable difference. I still would have gone down to that that thief though.. Anyway, thanks for the great vids and build advice. I’ll try out the extra 10 in earth tomorrow.
(edited by Minoru.1237)
I tried this build out, and to be honest, I don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Previous to this I ran 30 air and 30 water. Maybe this build has slightly more survivability. But I still couldn’t run into a group of 3 people and live, and I still got killed by power/crit cloak and dagger thieves in under two seconds. I actually had a thief camp me at spawn in spvp, and whenever i dropped down, he would kill me so quickly that neither the armor of earth nor the final shielding even had time to go off. I would basically just fall over. That, to me, is what is overpowered. If this is the heal/tank build that Anet is suggesting may be overpowered, this class is in trouble.
(edited by Minoru.1237)
@Kreit, I’m not going to respond to hasty generalizations.
Be aware that stacking conditions like bleed has its own set of problems with respect to dungeon bosses. You can only stack conditions like bleed to 25, which is a problem discussed in a number of other threads in the forums. Imagine being in a dungeon group with a necro and a thief. In that case, if you are a condition based elementalist, much of your damage may go to waste. I’d think power crit would be safer. Not to mention if you ever venture into WvW, many people run heavy condition removal builds. Just food for thought.
Yeah man. I wish I could help more, but I think in most PVE you will be successful. You’re a braver man than I running D/D in a dungeon.
I run D/D in PvE, but staff in a dungeon. I actually do not like using staff at all, but the benefits to my group in dungeon areas far outweighs my antipathy toward staff.
You really don’t need any special gear for PVE. Since the enemy AI is predictable you can kite any groups of mobs even as a glass cannon build by simply using water skills. If you’re looking to experiment with runes and builds I suggest trying them out in the Heart of the Mists. That would also allow you to pinpoint weaknesses in some of your gear and trait specs, since you would be playing against more difficult opponents.
Bountiful Power and Bolt To The Heart one element only traits?

Well, w/r/t bountiful power I’ve only noticed a difference in damage while attuned to water. I think I’ll head to the heart of the mists and test them out to see if they are actually functioning as intended.

These traits sit in elemental categories, water and lightning respectively, so I thought that they may only apply to the elements in which they are situated. I’d rather not assume one way or the other so I’m asking. Do you have a confirmed answer?

I meant to say violate the philosophy of element swapping/attuning.
Bountiful Power and Bolt To The Heart one element only traits?

Does the trait Bountiful Power, which provides 2% extra damage per boon, work across all elements or only within water? I would also like to know if Bolt To The Heart works with all elements; e.g. if a foe is at 20% health and I happen to be attuned to fire, will I deal 25% extra damage as long as I have selected this trait?
If these do not apply across all elements—2% extra damage per boon in water, an element in which no damage is really possible—why is that so? It seems to violate the philosophy of trait swapping promoted by Anet.
I discovered that the problem was not having purchased and used the master’s manual prior to the grandmaster’s. I wish it were explained in the description that a master’s is required for the grandmaster’s manual to work properly.
I purchased the Grandmaster Training Manual around level 50, but now that I am 60 I cannot use it. I do not have the gold to repurchase the training manual, nor would I risk taking the chance again if I did. What am I supposed to do? How can I progress without my trait lines? Two gold is a lot of money for my character, and if I can’t get what I payed for I feel as if Arenanet should return my two gold. You must fix this bug.
I’m trying to purchase 5 globs of ectoplasm on The Black Lion Trader, and although there are over 1000 available, and I have plenty of gold, the buy button will not allow me to click and purchase the ectoplasms. I’ve tried purchasing other items as well, but I get the same result. I am unable to purchase anything.
As of 2 pm the altar is still broken.
Today at 11 am Est time in the ET Borderlands, JQ members, myself included, were midway through running the orb back to Etheron Hills when an opposing team member hacked into Etheron Hills and destroyed the altar. Many say it was ET again. I don’t know what server did it, but Anet really needs to do something about this hacking.
I’m in a Japanese guild. Everyone uses romaji because guild wars 2 does not support Japanese language script at all, for either Mac or windows. That’s why you can’t switch to Japanese. It has nothing to do with Mac.
