Knight power cores

I expect them to cost around 80s in a week.

Why do u think they will be so cheap? They are ascended materials

They’re only used for changing the color of these backpieces.

Most people have earned plenty of alternate back skins that they probably prefer better by now…

6 bags and a core chance for the Knights is a very fair reward. 18 on the first day was far too overpowered.

It’s really simple content, it’s almost punishing for anything BUT auto attack, it shouldn’t be as rewarding as more difficult things.

Except that the reward seems bugged.

It was supposed to be for downing any knight.

Now, regardless of whether or not you kill a knight… You may not get any loot.

Doubtful. They’re obviously trying to keep up log-in numbers.

Especially with the “New sale each day in March!” Gem Store ploy.

If this event becomes even more of a bore, or gives out less rewards…
People will just be discouraged from playing.

The latest patch, of course, came with its own bugs and glitches.

It didn’t fully resolve the issue.

Killing any knight was supposed to result in a chest at the end of the 18 minutes.

Except that isn’t happening now. (Maybe it’s related to daily reset.)

Fixed a bug that prevented players from receiving loot from the Assault Knights. A reward chest will now be awarded after all three Assault Knight events have finished, and will be given to the corresponding participants even if only one Assault Knight was defeated.

Does this reward come in the form of a chest that appears somewhere that we have to open or do the rewards auto-pop up? Because, since the patch, I’ve gotten no automatic rewards other than the silver/karma from event completion.

I only got it once from killing two knights.
Then got it from killing all 3.

2 subsequent times, killing 2 knights resulted in nothing.

It’s broken again.

Surprise!

Knights shouldn't scale past 50

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Minos.5168

Minos.5168

How do you know it’s scaling past 50 and not just a case of bad DPS? Other encounters in the game do have maximum scaling limits, so there’s no reason to not have these limited at 50. People not contributing to an encounter aren’t supposed to scale it, but we all know that’s not entirely true.

I’ve seen people tell others to leave if they’re doing 0 damage. From personal experience, once a health bar is scaled up, it doesn’t scale back down.

It could be bad DPS… It could also be that they’ve given the Knights too much Vitality and Toughness.

But it wouldn’t surprise me if the Knights are set to scale up. (It was probably done initially to discourage zerging to begin with, but failed.)

Think about how devs said “There’s nothing wrong with loot mechanics.” a year ago.
Then they were like “Oh, we found something and fixed it. Enjoy your loot drops now.”

don’t focus so much on the loot you’re getting and enjoy the content for what it is.
__

If it turns out the 6 min achieve is unattainable, anet will change that. (just as they did with 1500 Civs to 1200.)

First, after we’ve gone through the Scarlet hologram battle once… What other point, besides loot, is there to do it again?

As a ranger with a short bow, I pretty much just go on auto-attack and dodge during the Knight events (until they become susceptible to conditions)…

No one will want to do an 18 minute without rewards.

The Knights just aren’t that interesting of a fight. You grab the calibration, and then have it for the remainder of the battle.

No cool mechanics. You just dodge every now and then.

I can’t imagine anyone is getting the 6 minutes to Knightfall achievement now.

Especially since I’ve been in two events now where they failed.
Splitting up the zerg hasn’t made the event any easier.

The 3 knights/generals are bugged and beside those there’s nothing to do in LA when you have completed your achievements (if your interested in bothering), so whats the point? There’s no rewards worth getting whatsoever in 4/3/14 patch.

May as well take a break and not log in until the ‘features/balance’ patch.

Good timing really, since I got another game to play that gives awesome loot, that changes/improves my characters and I am getting loads of fun experimenting with different builds. A world away from where GW2 is atm…

Yeah, GW2’s “awesome loot” is reserved for the Gem Store.

Clearly there are plenty of people that either can’t read or don’t bother listening to map chat or even pay attention to what they’re doing.

People will herd around the knights even if they don’t have the calibration, causing the Knight to scale higher than it should be.

These players aren’t doing any damage, so why should the Knight scale?

If it’s too difficult to put a cap on the scaling, then all attacks should be REFLECTED (rather than nullified) if you don’t have the calibration.

At least then people might start paying attention.

Anet... play how you want.

The issue is… Zerging managed to at least get close to killing all 3 knights in time.

Now, even if you’re in a full overflow, it seems impossible to manage 6 minutes to Knightfall.

People don’t seem to understand the whole calibration mechanic.

“Oh, I’m hitting 0. No idea why that is. I’ll just keep standing here using auto-attack.”

We need to know how many people are in any given map/instance and if the events are scaling because there is no way with five and one afk, we had any kind of a chance against Scarlet in her instance after the Knights…

Something is very, very wrong if this is supposed to scale to the number of players because it is not scaling at all.

If it is not scaling – what is the minimum number of people – stop playing “hide the info” and tell us what to do to beat these re-buffed and impossible knights and Scarlet instances.

They should have maxed the Knights out at scaling for 50 players in the latest patch (since they’ve now limited the buff to 50 players at a time.)

You have to keep in mind, most ANet staff probably took off for the holidays. (Although, we had at least a month of Wintersday… And that was basically all re-hashed content.)

It’s almost like they learned nothing from the prior releases…

They just assumed that people would break the zerg up. (When there’s no clear reason to do so, especially if each Knight drops its own loot.)

There should have been a single reward chest ala the marionette/wurm events for participating.

And so, LS season one ends as it began…

Minos.5168

The new approach with the latest patch is impossible… 50 people are not enough to kill the officers within the prescribed time… imagine in 6 minutes for the achievement… seriously, think about how to make the event even because the players are not “encouraged” to divide as you say… quite the contrary! Because if the red is going to die within 15 minutes I have to move to go green or blue where I know from the outset that I will not take the chest? So having said that… or go back to the old style zerg where the event was completable, or give the chest REALLY all for every officer killed even though I did not participate because I was the killing of another officer, or increase the number of people that can take the buff … so at the moment is not playable …

They should have made the chest like the wurm/daily/marionette chest.

You get a single chest for participating.

It has set loot for how many knights that you kill.

You only have 5 minutes from the downing of the first knight to kill the other two.

That would fix it mechanics-wise, but it may be too little too late.

Minos.5168

The Scarlet Holo fight begins 5 minutes after the first Knight’s death; originally, this was not an issue because a map divided into groups of three would take down the Knights within 5 minutes of each other. However, with recent player tactic changes, the first Knight is dying as much as 10 minutes before players get up to the Breachmaker, meaning that you will portal up into an active fight, possibly die before you load in, and you can lose time on the Scarlet Holo Fight timer. We are working on ways to make sure that players will have much less risk to portal up to an in progress fight.

For the time being, I encourage you to encourage your fellow players to wait to kill the first Knight until a time where the other two Knights are closer to death. If you can get the Prime attunement in under 5 minutes from the first Assault Knight’s death, you will portal up to a grace period and you will have some time to load in and prepare yourself before the Prime Hologram begins her onslaught. Again, it is an issue we are aware of and should improve with the Assault Knight fixes.

Except that this isn’t clear. There isn’t a secondary timer after the first knight falls.

Unlike the Jungle Wurm, where the timer changes after the first wurm is downed.

Likewise, there’s nothing that clearly tells people to split up except for the Six Minutes to Knightfall achievement.

And I’m sure there are plenty of players, like myself, that are aware of how the event was intended to go (especially after numerous devs have made their intentions clear about splitting up the zerg)… but it’s kind of hard to do anything when everyone else on the map is like “EVERYONE TO BLUE! (knight dies) NOW TO GREEN!”

There’s just no one at the other two knights. In an overflow, people somewhat split up after blue… but not enough people went to red.

In the end, people were complaining “We’d have killed won if people hadn’t left the zerg.”
(Primarily because we almost managed to kill all 3 within the timer.)

Will you be retroactively rewarding people that have grown sick of this and given up on this update with their achievements and champ bags?

Also, for those that might come back once things are fixed in terms of rewards, achievements and actual game stability will you be extending this final chapter of the Living Story?

I like the extending idea…

We have, what, less than 10 days to get 10 of the same power core if we want to upgrade ONE backpiece?

Each event only takes place once an hour, and if you fail to kill all 3 Knights… You may or may not get a core, even when it was working.

I’d certainly hope that ANet sends out mail with a few power cores. “From Ellen Kiel: I found these on the ground after the Assault Knight battle. Figured you might know what to do with them.”

This is a copy and paste from the release notes for this event: “Legendary Assault Knights will drop 5 Deluxe Gear Boxes and a chance at an Assault Knight Power Core, which can be used to color the Tempered Spinal Blades back item.” They can be found here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-March-4-2014

It clearly states that the Legendary Assault Knights will drop 5 Deluxe Gear Boxes. It then goes on to say that there is a chance at an Assault Knight Power Core. It does not say that there is a chance at 5 Deluxe Gear Boxes.

Agreed.

And the “chance” at cores is crazy in the first place.

You need 10 of one to upgrade a single back piece.

This will probably take at least 10 hours worth of gameplay.

I killed two knights on the first day and didn’t get any cores. (Did get the 6 boxes from each, but those just gave greens, silver, and dust.)

Braham is a shame for all beings with a brain.

Stupid kid should have learnt to shut up when adults are around. He makes all Norns look bad. At least I cannot blame his mother, she is cool, but I would like to have a word with his father. No wonder she didn’t want to take care of him.

Have you ever considered that his manners are BECAUSE of his upbringing (and his mother abandoning him)?

I have a complete lack of respect for Eir at this point in the story.

Honestly, the only redemption for her is to sacrifice herself and die a noble death protecting one of the Living Story characters. (All norn dream of having a heroic death that the skalds can sing stories of, so it’d be very fitting.)

My bets are on Taimi. And we’ll have a very touching moment with Braham holding his mother as she tells him “I’m sorry…”

(Taimi because of her connection to both Braham and Zojja… so maybe they’ll forgive Eir for her faults in the end.)

Minos.5168

Having the drill go on does not imply this was her end game. It implies it is a piece of a process which she had no intention of stopping.

Further, I believe the game does support the idea she had further plans.

  1. She created a watchwork army which she did not need to invade Lion’s Arch. This includes the Clockwork Oakheart, a twisted mechanized version of a potential minion of Mordemoth.
  2. She created a mega-laser which she did not need to invade Lion’s Arch
  3. She created hybrid Toxic monsters which she did not need to invade Lion’s Arch

There’s all these things she made along the way that she did not need to accomplish the goal of waking Mordremoth. However, these are all things which would be useful if she were to mount an assault on Mordremoth.

I believe the writers want you to think this is the end game. However, I’m pretty sure it’s not. Scarlet is dead, but I believe in LW Season 2 we will learn more about Scarlet’s true intentions.

“Caithe, someday you’ll see, Tyria needs me.” -Scarlet

I think that prophetic statement will become evident in LW Season 2, once we begin to face Mordremoth. We’ll need Scarlet, because we will discover that Scarlet had devised a plan on how to kill Mordremoth.

Agreed. It seems entirely plausible.

It’s been established that she was testing the Twisted Marionette to see if it was strong enough to beat us.

Keeping in mind that we defeated an Elder Dragon… Presumably, anything that can beat us can beat a dragon.

There is a definite disparity between the way she talks and her end game however.

It makes me wonder if Anet planned much more for scarlet but have instead done what the players were whining for instead.
“Kill off scarlet and get back to dragons”.

In all honesty, that’s because the story was awfully executed.

Scarlet wasn’t really fleshed out. No one really cared what she was doing.
We didn’t really even get hints about why she might be behind all of this until MUCH later.

We know no more about “Mr. E” than what we read in Marjory’s short story.

Unless you read the short stories, very little about the characters has been explained in-game.

The FLedge storyline took the most time (arguably it was slow, yes) but at least it felt like it was building up to something… They even hinted at “a girl from the city.”

Next, we see the Aetherblades. No real explanation of their goals or who sent them.

And finally, Scarlet’s surprise reveal at Queen Jennah’s Jubilee…

Everyone was like “What?”

Yes, they’ve said now that they voiced many lines that never made it into the game and such because of time constraints.

In my opinion, they should have taken the extra time and put those story moments in the game. I would actually prefer a monthly update schedule to a bi-weekly one.

Basically we have a somewhat monthly schedule with a twist at the two-week mark.

One of the devs had compared GW2 to Game of Thrones… but Game of Thrones has 10 episodes in one year. They’re all exceptionally executed and extremely well polished before they’re shown to the masses.

GW2’s living story (thus far) lacks that luster.

Sounds like a rumor…

Removing loot from the Knights is a good way to get people to lose interest in the event.

If people lose interest in the event, there’s less reason to play.

At this point in the event cycle, most people are probably looking for cores to upgrade their backpieces.

If they only way to get them is from Scarlet (which requires a decently coordinated map that can take all 3 down)… Then I predict people will just stop trying.

That’s entirely possible. In Guild Wars 1, most of the major plot points were a direct consequence of the player’s actions. Some of these (such as the premature awakening of Primordius and the reign of Joko in Elona, as well as the freedom of the Dredge) are lasting consequences of the Guild Wars 1 player character’s actions. Anet seems to have a fondness for the “good job breaking it, Hero” trope.

Primordus’ awakening was, in fact, delayed due to our actions.

When we defeated his champion “The Great Destroyer”, he decided to slumber for a little while longer (perhaps to feed on magical ley lines for a little while longer).

Dredge were formerly enslaved by the dwarves… I can’t see how them gaining freedom is a bad thing. Yes, they’ve become hostile but every race in Tyria has some hostiles.

And as far as Palawa Joko, we needed his assistance to defeat Abaddon. He was a means to an end for us (and us to him). In my opinion, it’s the Sunspears’ fault for not keeping a closer eye on him. They knew what he was capable of.
(And in all honesty, I think the Palawa Joko mess was created as an excuse for why we can’t go to Elona at the start of GW2.)

Minos.5168

There are a lot of heterosexual couples in the game. Every third or fourth renown heart NPC I come across has an oppostite sex sweetheart that they mention. Often their love interest is also in close proximity.

That being said, I’d like to see more relationships in the game that are not romantic in their nature. Friends, comrades in arms and even rivals. People do not talk to each other with the sole purpose of getting laid. Throughout our lives we have far more acquitances, friends and enemies than romantic partners. I feel like the world of Tyria does not reflect that.

I agree 100%. Instead about worrying whose going to romance who. The characters and NPCs in the story should be banding together more (supporting each other, etc), after all, all of the races are facing the same threat: the elder dragons.

See: Braham and Rox.

They’ve not really been confirmed as having sexual feeling towards one another.

I’m sure there’s many, MANY representations of human relationships that could be explored via in-game relationships.

See: Humans that dress up as charr and pair up with other humans that dress up as quaggans.

The issue is that if they covered every type of relationship, they’d have way more NPCs than anyone would care to hear about.

Except that WE are in the game. WE represent the world of Tyria as a whole.
See: Role-Players. (You know, the people that put the RP in MMORPG.)

I’d say that, generally, most Tyrians are probably heterosexual (since, well, the majority of players are heterosexual).

Granted, there’s also the fact that a lot of heterosexual males play female characters because they would “prefer” to look at a woman than a man.

I, honestly, haven’t paid much attention to what RPers tend to RP about in terms of relationships.

I have, however, noticed (and remembered) that there was a Human and Asura walking through Divinity’s Reach casually talking about the Eternal Alchemy.

In all honesty, the NPCs in the game aren’t very sexual at all.
Kasmeer and Marjory’s interactions seem far more emotional that physical.

Faolin and Caithe were likely the same. (Do Sylvari even… you know?)

I was under the impression that more or less every kitten other game simply didn’t let you play when the server/map/whatever was full.

Cryptic for one seems to get it right in their games. And i could have sworn i have played others in the past with a drop down instance list somewhere near the minimap.

I rarely (to the point that I don’t actually remember it happening) saw the queue when playing on a “Full” after Cataclysm launched.

I suppose it’s possible that population went up with Pandaria… But probably not much.

And, yet, once you’re in-game… You’re on your sever indefinitely. No having to deal with other servers. (Well, now they’re merging low-population servers… Similar to the “underflow” concept that has been mentioned for GW2.)

This is a good point. GW1 had districts which functioned the same way, I don’t see why GW2 can’t have the same system…

Because… Gem Store.

It costs gems to transfer from one server to another and it’s cost-prohibitive to travel to popular servers.

Yes, you can buy these gems with in-game gold…
However, at current gem conversion rates, this is ~158 gold for the 1800 gems required to transfer to a “High” population server.

And that’s not even guaranteed to have a “High” population of players that still play the game.

Doesn’t putting in four Asura give you a Super Sonic?

Seems like a glitch. I’d file a bug report.

I’ll let that NPC save the other NPC, then WE can kill Scarlet ourselves.

But if they kill Scarlet, then no more invasion events…
(Does anyone still do those?)

I seriously doubt we’ll kill Scarlet.

If anything, the Scarlet encounter should have happened with the penultimate Living Story release…

Not the final one.

Too many loose ends. We still don’t know precisely what she’s drilling for.
She's drilling for oil to power her massive machines and to make a killing on the Black Lion Trading Post.

Granted, given how the story has gone so far… We may get some 5 minute diatribe about it from Scarlet as she escapes.

I would very much like for a dragon to burst out of the ground at the end of the Scarlet battle… But I don’t see that being extremely likely.

If they were adding a new dragon to the game, there’d have been much more build-up.

See: Taco. He was over-hyped.

The only thing we know about the next release is the Assault Knights (and that there’ll be 3 of them… one Red, one Blue, and one Green… each associated with a different Asuran college.)

Then again, I wasn’t quite expecting as much damage to Lion’s Arch as we’ve seen.

It’s a stronger question than usual, actually, since the next event is the battle for LA. Which means what’s happening inside LA will be different. I could see the rubble piles still being there, as there’s a lot of city that the evacuators haven’t dug completely through, but there should be different fights and less citizen escaping stuff.

Well…

They may not necessarily put a stop to citizen rescue events..

They could, possibly, introduce a new 5-man instance to take down Scarlet.

It’d seemingly fall more in line with having Braham, Rox, and crew there.

I mean, could you imagine a massive zerg to take down Scarlet?

I could see the Assault Knights being added to the Lion’s Arch map (as a zerg-friendly boss).

However, Scarlet seems like something that should be a more balanced fight… And probably have story elements as well.

I expect that the final battle will go something like this:
[Events] DESTROY SCARLET’S 3 ASSAULT KNIGHTS!
(they’ll be 3 separate events, similar to the Wurms in Bloodtide Coast)

After those are destroyed, we may be presented with the option to join a 5-man “dungeon” by boarding an airship headed to the top of Scarlet’s drill.

We whittle away Scarlet’s HP alongside the Destiny’s Edge wannabes.

Then a final cut-scene as we “defeat” Scarlet in which one NPC has the option to kill her or save another NPC. Guess which they’ll choose.

Scarlet will teleport out saying something like “All this chaos has been fun and all, but I’ll leave you to deal with this mess.”

That is what I fully expect on Tuesday.

If I get something more satisfying, I’ll be greatly impressed.

The "Ultimate" Bag

Just stating the truth.
Whenever you reach 1200, you know there are dozens of people getting the bag without talking to at least one citizen.

Exactly.

I mean, I tend to talk to at least 10 civs each time I’m there.
(How many players can exist on one map? Seems like at least 100.)

Also, I’ve seen plenty of ArenaNet devs (representing their ArenaNet guild) farming the events too. So there doesn’t seem to be an “official” way to complete the event.

In reality, this all seems like a psychology student’s thesis…

Do people work together to fulfill a common goal (i.e. getting the ultimate bag) or just focus on individual returns, while hoping to benefit off of someone else saving the citizens?

Oh, and allow us to use weapons as Quaggans as well.

I’d like to be able to remain in Quaggan form at all times.

Or, just sell quaggan character slots in the Gem Store.

You’d make loads and loads of dough.

She’s crazy. Calling a dragon would cause massive destruction.

I think there’s more to it than that, Anet have been trying for quite a while to tell us that there’s more to her than simple madness

Anet’s been trying for quite a while to tell us that this story actually makes sense. This didn’t make it any more true however.

I think, that she’s looking for an oil field. She will start a Scarlet Mining Company, with a motto “we drill like there’s no tomorrow”.

And what can you do with oil? POWER AUTOMOTIVES!
