Back in GW1… access to the Fissure of Woe and Underworld were based on which region had control of the mists.

BRING THIS BACK ANET for the WVW’ers!!!!

portals to FoW and Underworld, where riches beyond imagination lie (ascended item tokens… etc) and make them fight for control of the portals… whoever has 80% zone control has access to FoW and Underworld. Make it an area of competition between the regions of the mists or something like that…. and in FoW or Underworld, players killed have a chance to drop precursors!

Tying UW/FoW access to region control was probably the single most hated feature among the PvE community of GW1, so let’s not make the same mistake again. Throwing some PvP into it might change things, but while the idea of a PvP dungeon sounds interesting at first, I remember what Obsidian Sanctum was like at launch and really we’re not missing much.

Players already have a chance to drop precursors, it’s just statistically insignificant. If we’re going to see FoW and UW returned to GW2, it’d make more sense to implement them as PvE raid instances (in GW1 they were 8-player instances; GW2 is missing that sweet spot between 5-man and map zerg, but the marionette shows some consideration in that area). Fractals of the Mists are already similar lore-wise, but the gameplay and settings are different.

And the UW/FoW access restrictions were more lax by the end of GW1, IIRC.

Favor was tied to the progression of titles…

And the portal scrolls were also sold and such.

Tengu?

GW2 always had the five races planned for release, ever since Eye of the North in 2007. It looks as if tengu were going to be an add-on race for a Cantha expansion that has yet to materialize for a variety of reasons.

Hard to guess at what the future holds, but I’m sure ArenaNet is well aware of the demand for an expansion.

I would imagine that since we only get 5 character slots with the base game…

Introducing a new race would be one way to promote the purchase of more slots.

They don’t have to be “expansion only”.

Heck, they could probably even make “exclusive Tengu slots” and sell them for like 1000 to 1200 gems. (a 50% markup from the normal character slots)

Or just charge you a “Tengu access fee” of 800 gems and let you create as many Tengu as you want (provided you have open character slots, of course… which are also available for 800 gems.)

Have any of you noticed the voice at the end of Guild Wars 2 – Our Story So Far sounds different from the Scarlet we’ve known?

Are we even sure it’s Scarlet and not the Personal Nemesis(who according to ArenaNet was someone we knew and since we didn’t know Scarlet at the time the Nemesis is obviously not her)?

Could Countess Anise, Queen Jennah, Kasmeer and the voice whispering into Scarlet’s head all be the Nemesis in disguise?

If so how is she/he going to make it personal? Kill Destiny’s Edge maybe? What does she/he mean by playtime? Is she/he drawing Scarlet on a goose chase after her for her/his amusement?

What is this Personal Nemesis stuff?

I’d completely forgotten about that since the introduction of Scarlet…

Perhaps they had a change of course since they wanted to do “amazing things with the Sylvari in 2014”?

I thought it was the Year of the Horse, not year of the plant people.

GW2 needs moar centaurs.

In my “examine the evidence” thing, Jory and Kasmeer figured out about the Lion’s Arch attack like 3 items in. Then I had 7 more items of fluff/filler to examine.

In all honesty, this evidence collection should have been more sparsely spread-out throughout the Living Story.

Could you imagine if we’d found out in November of last year about a Lion’s Arch attack?

We could have had Hero-Tron collecting donations to build airships for defense of Lion’s Arch.

And then our “defense of Lion’s Arch” event success would depend on how much gold people on your server had donated over the course of the past few months.

Oh, but wait, see Ho-Ho-Tron for pointless gold sinks.
Edit: Well, not-quite-so-pointless… It did start a little event inside of Lion’s Arch that was amusing.

Luckily the main story isn’t very good so missing it is not as bad is it could be. Imagine if it were Game of Thrones quality.

Wouldn’t we all be dead at the end of Flame and Frost..?

Except that the only Personal Story character that anyone cared about was already killed off throughout the course of the personal story…

If Logan, Anise, Jennah, Faren, Rytlock, Caithe, Traeherne, Zojja, or Eir were killed off… No one would care.

Sad but true. They’d probably have the same impact as killing off random NPC #12.

I think they realized that Destiny’s Edge was far too “whiny” in the Personal Story, so they tried to create a new group of NPC heroes.

Guilds break up for a reason. Maybe they’re better off apart.
Rytlock running the Black Citadel and Logan doing whatever he does.

With the Pact now formed, Destiny Edge’s importance has dwindled.

Now, on the other hand, since we’ve been introduced to and spent time with this Living Story cast, they’re prime for the picking.

Imagine the outrage if Jory or Kasmeer were killed.

The Tengu were supposedly one of the planned races.

I’m curious as to how much effort would need to be made to actually make it happen.

Look at how content much they added in November 2012. It was probably just polishing up some mini-dungeons and a zone that they had already lying around.

Keep in mind, GW2 was under development for a long time… Things were cut (like the Tengu). That doesn’t mean there wasn’t any work done on them.

To be entirely honest with regard to the armor thing:
I fully expect Tengu to be compatible with Charr armor. Their talons will probably function similarly to Charr feet.
Their standard body-type is just slimmer than Charr in general.

As for Hylek, I’d expect Quaggans first… So until we get a “Mists of Quaggaria” expansion, I wouldn’t hold my breath.

I think the issue is that they couldn’t very-well take away someone’s 12k reward (as people have already earned at least that much).

So they just stuck it on 21k, as that didn’t yet have a skin reward. Easiest solution.

If someone had already unlocked 21k, then ANet could probably just give them the option to choose a boot skin.

I’d like to chime in (as has hopefully already been mentioned):
You do NOT have to play WvW at all.
You can easily get enough Badges of Honor for a Legendary by completing achievements.

Moreover, there’s only THREE achievements for Edge of the Mists.
Only one (Raiders of the Lost Parts) requires you to put yourself in harm’s way.
And the “chests” for those achievements contain WvW XP.
So if you don’t want to do WvW… Then don’t bother with helping fix Taimi’s Golem.

contrary to what people here are saying, if you look at the evidence EoTM wasn’t designed for NA/EU, but china. The current population caps wouldn’t be able to handle the amount of WvWers in china.

Or, it could have been initially conceived a year ago.

I mean, even if you assume that the WvW team could design, texture, and code the thing in 6 months… (while the artists and programmers are also hard at work implementing Gem Store content and Living Story releases)

I’m sure they still did some in-house alpha testing before the invite-only beta last October.

If I had to guess, they’d probably been planning it since the end of 2012 at least.

Yes, I’m sure that it’ll help with China… but they may have initially conceived the idea when there were high wait times on most servers. (Back when there were consistently overflows for most zones.)

The Tengu are located right next to “the Arch” (as Jory calls it).

And yet, they haven’t so much as squawked throughout the entire Living Story season 1.

Shouldn’t they, presumably, be ready to get involved to save Tyria?

If Lion’s Arch falls, what’s going to protect them?

Scarlet has a huge freaking airship. The “Great Wall of Tengu” isn’t going to save them.

BiS is time sensitive. If something is said to be BiS, it’s only valid at the point in time it was said at.

The unlimited gathering tools were never future-proof BiS because they were limited to the Orichalcum level. What happens in an expansion when something greater is added? Expect new unlimited tools for that level.

The same goes for legendaries. They’re BiS level 80, but that doesn’t mean they’re BiS level 81+. Anything can happen.

Exactly. This is what I’ve always been concerned about.

It’s far more concerning than the Watchwork sprockets.

As you suggest (and I’ve always considered to be the case), the current gathering tools are probably limited to Orichalcum and Ancient trees.

What happens if the impending expansion (we know it’s happening at some point, probably sooner than later) adds “Diamond nodes” and “Redwood trees”? How else are we going to craft level 90/100 weapons and armor?

While we’re on the subject, what happens if there’s a level-bump with the expansion?

Seems fairly likely as GW2 was designed with potential max-level increases in mind (unlike GW1)… They just (not-quite-so) arbitrarily picked a max of 80.

Ascended gear has shown that they’re trying to appease the vertical progression crowd, and as such… Level 90 (or 100 or whatever) gear will then be the new “max”…

I’m sure we’ll then get new Exotics, Ascendeds, and Legendaries. (What’d an expansion be without new gear to strive towards?)

The one thing you can count on (from the current implementation of Ascendeds) is that they won’t make the mistake about Legendaries being “easy” to get.

There’ll be plenty of time-gating and such to artificially add reasons to keep playing.

I don’t mean to be Buzz Killington, but…

I know that in GW1, only X number of minis could be on one map at a time.

If that number had already been met, then you couldn’t use yours.

Imagine if someone had paid for this, but couldn’t ever use this since everyone else had paid for this and the map was always maxed out with minis.

Also, I think it’d be insanely difficult for them to differentiate one mini Green Moa from another mini Green Moa, without some major re-coding. (And, thus, it’d be difficult to allow you to actually use multiples of the same mini.)

Update to Ascended

Minos.5168

I always thought that the kits/banners/summons/etc all met your weapon’s stats at time of swap/summon.

In fact, the whole case of engineer kit/summoned weapons, banners, and ranger pets stats being based around a set tier is the best proof, that ascended weapons (and vertical progression) weren’t envisioned in this game at all, and were just a quick and pooorly designed later addition.

Or it could be proof that they did not want to make everybody except engineers and elementalist ascended weapon, which would be unfair. The point being it is not proof, you just did not want to consider the other side of the argument, because it did not suit your narrative.

No, if the engi kit design would have been made in a design environment where vertical progression was a possibility, then they’d have been made to scale with the equipped gear. The only design reason for them not to scale is if the stat plateau was never expected to change in future.

It was fairly clear when they introduced Ascended gear that it wasn’t envisioned from the beginning.

I mean, GW1 never had weapons beyond the max-stat req. 9 level 20 gear.

They introduced Ascended gear primarily to appease those that wanted a gear grind. (At the same time that they introduced Fractals as the only place to get the gear, and the only place where infusions actually make a difference.)

Since then, they’ve pretty much abandoned the fractals.

I mean, November after launch… We got a new zone that hardly anyone goes to anymore… Plus the Fractals.

A year later, we get 3 additional fractals and two boss fractals. (only one of the aforementioned fractals was actually new… the rest were all from earlier Living Story content.)

I think they learned with Ascended gear that they couldn’t really use a gear grind to keep anyone playing.

I think it honestly turned more people off of the game.

Impressed by Wurms

in The Origins of Madness

Posted by: Minos.5168

Minos.5168

I must say, I am very impressed by the wurm event.

I was somewhat disappointed when I learned that it would be 3 big wurms in one region of the map, rather than a zone-wide event (like Scarlet’s invasion event).

(Hey, wurms coming out of the ocean floor or walls like those Undead fish things isn’t out of the question in my opinion…)

But, overall, the wurm events seem well thought out and require a decent amount of strategy and team coordination. (And it’s nice that they’re all a little different, so learning a strategy for one doesn’t necessarily qualify you for taking down all 3 wurm heads.)

I was also presently surprised when roaming around Bloodtide Coast with a Charr that hadn’t been there before… I noticed a wurm pop up near a recently destroyed “Do Not Touch” device just south of Stormbluff Isle.

I guess that’s part of the failure of the meta? I just learned on the Wiki that it can’t be attacked or targeted (I didn’t even try, just avoided its attacks).

My only suggestion would be to have mini-events like that with killable wurm heads.

And, perhaps, we can start replacing Zhaitan’s minions in Bloodtide Coast with wurms? There’s enough of them in the zones to the south. It’d also be a nice if they started “thinning out” since the fall of Zhaitan. (Isn’t the living world supposed to be about an ever-evolving world and experience?)

Of course, that would require some reworking of some hearts… but that’s been done in some areas before.

Well, I defended these new events at first..

Minos.5168

Not at all. The Marionette was not designed to be beaten only by “elite” players. We have an idea of where the average player is skill-wise, and placed the bar where we hoped would just a tad above that, in the hopes that they would have to stretch a bit. That stretching creates tension, which is the sweet spot in event-type content as far as I’m concerned. (as opposed to the abnegation style smooth sailing content that most of an MMO needs to be.) Without the tension new things get boring faster. Too much tension, (as seems to be your case) and people give up and the content is wasted on them. That seems to be your argument about this event.

Having said all that, if after a week the Marionette is still only being beaten 1 out of 10 times, then I would say we may have tuned it a bit too difficult. On the other hand, we don’t know how long it takes for the aggregate skill level of the player-base to grow. I don’t know how long it takes for information about traits and builds to disseminate to those who had previously never looked into them. As with all our content, we are closely watching and noting these things so that every future project can learn from it.

P.S. Because several people brought up the idea of buffing the other platforms when one succeeds, I thought I ought to let you all know that this has always been the case. When one platform’s power regulator is destroyed the players on the platforms adjacent get Electrify Aura which gives 60 seconds of protection, swiftness, regeneration, fury, might, vigor and retaliation.

Except that the “Electrify Aura” doesn’t rez players. If another platform has already wiped (which is very likely, as it’s a bunch of random players that probably don’t really know the game mechanics as you just acknowledged…)

It’s not really fair to the rest of us decent players who are able to successfully clear our platforms EACH AND EVERY time, and then watch us fail overall because one or two platforms fail.

It’s really just bad design. Yes, I understand that you’re trying to “raise average player ability” but it’s overall detrimental to the rest of us.

Content like this would be entirely fair game for guild/raid style events where you can choose your entire group of 25 people. However, for open-world events, it just doesn’t work out very well.

I’ve played 5 times (always stuck in overflow) and never got past 2/5 (always managed to destroy the regulator on my own platform, though).

I’ve given up on it, since it’s pointless as I think average player level is well below what you expect it to be.

As a matter of fact, it was worse during the weekend. (Which is probably when the more “average” players get online.)

Yes, I’ve noticed this as well. And, the Infinite Coin appears to be a required component to ‘enjoy’ the update. Yes, I know it’s been stated otherwise, but the reality as far as freedom from the frustration of multiple deaths appears otherwise.

Maybe this wasn’t intended, but the reality again says otherwise.

Any idea if the drop-rate on normal continue coins was nerfed in this patch (as opposed to April)?

I’m sure ANet will just claim that it was “higher than we wanted” (as has happened with dyes and such).

Honestly, any CS major should have had at least a basic introduction to statistics. They should know about the law of large numbers… They know how many puzzle chests people open daily… How many kills each person averages each day… It’d be very simple to estimate the impact of a specific drop rate.

The “higher than expected” seems to me more like a knee-jerk “Oh no! We’ve ruined the value of this item. We need to boost it!”

I mean, how can they sell dye packs in the Gem Store if unid’d dyes are 3 silver each? (That’s how low they were, before a patch which promptly brought them back up to 15s.)

Not to mention that dye was originally supposed to be account-unlock rather than character-unlocked.

You can’t tell me that the “commerce team” doesn’t have influence on the game.

Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Minos.5168

That’s not how things work here. I don’t tell the commerce team how to do their job and they don’t tell me how to do my job. My goal is to make a really fun and compelling experience for players.

If the reason was to sell coins I would not be here and you would not see a huge suite of fixes we put together over the last couple of days come out tomorrow.

As to the Infinite Continue Coin I’ll repeat what I said several pages back. I think it’s a great item because it expands the number of people who can experience SAB. There’s probably a good-sized portion of players who don’t want to play it like a real stand-alone old-school game where you have to really learn the levels, find the secrets, earn the resources to get the power-ups etc. In that way it’s like a Game Genie. It also gives people who are really into SAB a chance to vote with their money and support future development.

With all due respect, Nintendo never made any profit off of (nor supported) the Game Genie. They designed all their games to be possible without one.

Old-style arcade games, however, were specifically designed to make you spend REAL coins on extra lives.

I agree that the Infinite Continue Coin is a good business strategy, though. I’d probably buy one if SAB didn’t disappear at the end of the month.

I mean, I’m not spending real money on limited-time content.

Ascended Gear to Kill Builds and Alts?

I think Ascended weapons were mainly introduced to make Legendaries appear more appealing…

Want an expensive, crafting/collecting time-sink for Ascended gear?

Crafting is probably the least exciting part of any MMO… Yes. “Discovering” recipes can be fun, or you could just go to the Wiki and find them.

Or would you just prefer doing whatever it is that you find entertaining until you earn enough gold to buy a precursor? Then you’ll likely also have enough mats (provided you didn’t waste them on leveling crafting from 400 to 500) to make your legendary.

Thus you get Ascended stats, which you can change on-the-fly (out of combat). Build diversity FTW.

Ascended items tradable?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Minos.5168

Minos.5168

Current Ascendeds aren’t tradeable…
Why would ascended weapons be any different?
Legendaries are a different story… but they’ve been purchaseable since day one, so it’d be unfair to change that now. (Especially for all those people that are planning on selling their Legendary in the TP.)

And, yes, it basically does appease gold sellers (note: not farmers), of which the biggest is ANet. As they basically try to eradicate any gold farmers (which is healthy for the overall in-game economy).

Notice the first thing you see when going to the trading post? “Most valuable items” and “Most desirable items”, etc.

ANet wants to give you a goal of things to grind for… (or spend your money on Gems → Gold)

It’s in their best interests to make you want to buy Legendaries.

However, I expect all the T7 mats to be account bound (as they’re time-gated).
Thus, I’d be very surprised if the Ascended weapons were tradeable…

And, to be honest, that goes against the initial goals for crafting as set forth by ANet.
The original blog post on Crafting (prior to release) said that they wanted crafting to be a viable way to make money in-game. (Which is kind of difficult if you’re forcing everyone to level 500, but won’t let them sell the best gear.)

Account bound legendaries? Please...?

in Super Adventure Box: Back to School

Posted by: Minos.5168

Minos.5168

I think the mechanic to transmute onto a blue/white to make an item account bound was designed specifically for moving Legendaries between characters in a way profitable to Anet. I’m not sure this is something they would make “free.”

Good point… It’d take 2 Fine Transmutation Stones to change a legendary’s owner. (one to get it “account bound” and then another to get it back to level 80 stats…)

However, this update does add a new screw into the mix: Presumably legendaries won’t be transmutable anymore. I mean, you can change the stat combo at will. Moreover, Ascended weapons won’t be able to do that. They’ll have a fixed stat combo.

Crafting Ascended at 500

in Crafting

Posted by: Minos.5168

Minos.5168

I’ve heard rumblings that all the crafted ascended gear (armor, weapons, whatever) will probably be account-bound, which is pretty lame. I’m really getting sick and tired of account-bound items. Everything should be able to be sold/traded to other players if not yet equipped by your character.

More people would probably do fractals, for example, if the weapons and other exotics weren’t account bound and could be sold.

Same goes for this new ascended crafting. There will be no point doing it once you’ve made your own gear, no way to make any money from crafting and selling them…

Also, I really hope there isnt some sort of time requirement to crafting them, like the one introduced with Celestial gear. This is the very definition of “grind” that GW2 is supposedly against!

But they already announced that there would be time-gated T7 mats used to craft the Ascended (and the craftable Legendary pre-cursors as well)…

Ascended gear was pretty solely introduced to satisfy those individuals that want to continually work towards having better gear. It was never planned prior to launch.

I was like “Hmm… I wonder where this is going.”

That centaur have been there since release though.

Oh. Hadn’t realized. >.>

I don’t pay much attention to random NPCs generally, aside from being somewhat impressed by the detail ANet went to to make cities seem “bustling” with actual vocal conversations as you walk though.

Legendary enemies and the new loot updates

Well.. actually, almost all legendarys/world bosses already have a garanteed chest (that contains 5~6 loots, with high chances for rares, and chances better for exotics). Its already sufficient reward.

Have a few legendaryes without chest in dungeons (As the Troll in AC), but I presume that those ones will be nerfed to champion state as soon as people start to say that champions worth more than legendarys.

What about the Fractals ones? They said something about the fractals champs (don’t remember any champs in there though) getting the loot chest, but most if not all, end bosses are legendary.

I know that there’s a Champ Grawl Shawman in the Volcanic fractal…

However, he doesn’t actually “die” but becomes “Legendary”. (but defeating him while saving all 4 sacrifices gets you a bonus chest… It also counts as an event and grants that reward as well.)

Centaurs in the next patch..?

Yes. Our political process is far more “revolting” than Europe’s… where they have fist fights, etc.

American politicians may resort to name-calling and muck-raking, but they tend not to resort to physical violence. We leave that for Europeans.

Maybe I am old-fashioned but I don’t want to have a woman in a council.

Sad thing is, I’ve heard a similar statement said to a female friend of mine, while we were attending a party at the Harvard Club.

One elderly (possibly senile) man bluntly stated to her that “I remember when the Harvard Club was male-only. I liked it better that way.”

Back on topic:
I’m sure we’ll see both Fractals eventually. I mean, they’re both good ideas and we could use more permanent content/dungeons. I honestly think existing Fractals (and Southsun Cove for that matter) were just unfinished content that they polished off for the November release.

If they’re looking for a launch before the end of the year… It may mean that neither has been started yet. However, I’d be surprised if they don’t already have some parts of each being worked on.

Like how I expect Aetherblade Retreat and Molten Facility to find their way back into the game somehow… I expect both of these “council supported” ones to also end up in the game. Just a matter of which you want to see first.

Just make an alt, strip it neked, and enjoy dirt cheap ports.

You shouldn’t get armor damage from falling.

But I’d agree: Use a low-level character.

There’s no benefit to using a level 80, since everyone’s upscaled. (And besides, there’s only a few events with monsters… and they have to be started by players anyway.)

Well, I was there and saw her defeated. Watched her turn green and give her speech. Then defeated Horrik.

No achievement.

Seems like the other achievements are bugged too, from this forum.

I just completed the Aetherblade Retreat dungeon, but I still don’t have this achievement.

Was I supposed to do something after defeating Mai and Horrik?
Is it bugged?

Back on topic. I can do my daily in 30 minutes… flat -_-\/ I dont know who takes more than an hour doing daily. I know someone who finished their monthly just last night, and the monthly just reset itself yesterday afternoon.

A short story. I was just 2 jump puzzles away from my monthly. Right before I got to it, BAM! Reset! You know how mad I am? Curse you A-net and your heartlessness. I only do it to achieve something simple. Not for laurels honesetly. Laurels is pathetic to me. I’m willing to sell it 1 copper each if I could. -_-\/

I think the OP’s point which I agree with is that Dailies just begin to feel pointless…
I’ve largely stopped playing GW2 every day because of this.

I enjoyed it as well. I think future (and current) dungeons should be made with a combination of inspiration from SAB and this Molten Alliance dungeon. I actually feel like I’m on an adventure in both of those compared to the original dungeons in terms of pacing and mechanics.

I disagree. If you want platforming, play Mario games.

This story has rolled out over months, with tiny amounts of content for the majority of it, and then we only get twelve days for the last part???

My friend goes on vacation tomorrow and returns the 12th. I am sure others are in the same boat. Why put all this work into it and then have it only available for 12 days?

I think a month is the minimum anything should be around, giving players time to get to it at their leisure. SAB seemed to hit the mark all the way around, lets learn from that.

See: All one-time events like the mega Karka events. Some people got precursors from participating in the huge lagfest that was the Karka finale.

ArenaNet has thankfully made this last longer than other events. (It’s even around longer than the Halloween dungeon.)

Is it fair? No.
Does ArenaNet care? Probably not.

The best solution to keep it around “lore” wise is to put it part of fractals. The fractals have instances that are part of the past. So it might make sense to make this a new fractal that we can get while running it. I would be down to be able to run this in frac 40, it would be an amazing challenge.

No. This would not work. Not at all.

The point to the Fractals is that you have 3-4 mini-dungeons that take around a total of 45 minutes to 1.5 hours to complete.

This dungeon (due to all the time-gated stuff) takes about that long on its own.

Most people have actual lives and cannot allocate 3 hours (in one sitting) to a game.

Moreover, it seems like some of this stuff will stick around.

We’ll likely get an instanced version of Cragstead and the Devourer Hatchery. Each of which will have Braham and Rox (respectively) acknowledge us.

I’m sure we’ll both see them again. ArenaNet likely introduced those two characters so that we’ll have Living Story-specific characters.

I don’t really see them introducing new Destiny’s Edge progeny every 3-4 months. (What, Logan and Queen Jennah just had twins? Alert the presses! They’ll be fighting age in no time!)

In this way the Living Story can remain relevant, while not drastically interfering with the Personal Story.

It also wouldn’t surprise me if they put in a “Historian” to allow you to “Recount the events of the past” and join the dungeon after this is all over. See: Faction’s and Nightfall’s initial Story Missions from GW1.

I would have to say, this is my favorite dungeon thus far. Vastly more fun than any of the Story/Explorable dungeons. It’s like Story dungeons meets Fractals.

In the OP’s defense, there’s nothing really desirable to get with laurels.

I could waste it on getting Ascended gear for a single character… Or I could just wait until ANet provides alternative methods of getting Ascended. (Like crafting, for example… Crafting professions are kind of pointless currently.)

I could waste it all on a potion that will turn me into a cat.

Or a miniature cat to follow me around. Or a wolf.

See? It’s all kind of pointless. No cool skins or anything. All current Ascendeds (aside from backpieces, which you can’t get with laurels) aren’t visible.

Also, I have an overabundance of Mystic Coins (I passed 250 last month) and still no desire to get a Legendary.

The real issue with laurels is people like me: Those that are just collecting them for the heck of it. Now ArenaNet can’t release some mega-awesome thing at the vendor, because I would be able to get it instantly, while it’d take everyone else a while to work back up to 120 laurels.
