I saw that person’s post & it made me think of vets. It’s a game about war so why not! why is that “simply not nice”?

Because you go into a topic about a disabled person that people like and go “hey, don’t give money to that charity or a mini to that person, because we need it for the war veterans!”. That is rude to say the least. Want to organize a charity for the war veterans? Okay, go and create a topic about it.

And I’m still waiting for the topic link where an injured war veteran made a topic about how they car relate to a character and got different treatment.

I guess just saying that because a disabled war vet did say something & nobody gave them the time of day.

link the topic then. Either way though being sour about community asking for something for a disabled person is simply not nice.

How bout something for the Vets who lost limbs & had their faces burned off?

One problem at a time. Christina wrote something beautiful so people want to give her a gift of kindness. If it was a disabled war veteran that wrote that people would want to give him something too.

Problem is the event cannot be completed the intended way with the way some of the fine folks are playing “the way they want”, as in zerging in one big mob and AFKing. Of course, they will say: too bad! at least we’re getting loot.

And it is so, ANet has not done anything about it – and again, it’s the same as with the Marionette event – my success depends on others who may or may not be on the same level or frequency as me. That’s the problem with these large events. What ANet needs to learn from this is not to make events where players have to fight each other to complete them, or make goals where everyone has to work toward a common goal. (and don’t use the excuse that zergers contribute, no server with huge zerg ever makes it to 1500 or even 1200.)

you also can not complete the event without those events being done.
1. You can’t get achievements
2. Miasma raises faster
3. You lose a bunch of rescues due to being unable to clear the road for NPCs/ not getting saves from events.

I don’t care if you resurrect citizens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just don’t want you to get the reward for me doing it (if you choose not to res any. there should be a minimum to buy in to the reward) I do not get reward for your events when I do not do them. RIGHT?

Every single event equals ten citizens saved. Not to mention path cleared for the rallied citizens to be able to reach the door (unless you’re personally escorting them) So if you want to set the minimum to spite other people it will backfire on you. Now peace. If you want save citizens, if you want farm. I did not find LA to be profitable almost at all (with farming all I got was around 1G an hour) so decided to instead run dungeons, fractals and events like I always done.

What if it required a set number of tokens from EACH dungeon?

Then you would see a lot of rage on the forums, having in mind that dungeon difficulty varies and people normally choose what they like to run and ignore the others.

I haven’t played much the past couple months due to non game related problems. But seeing that they are selling a “Lifetime pass” to the ship means they most likely will never bring Lions Arch back.

So you mean to say that living stories from now on will loop with “we’re taking the Lion’s Arch back”? Because that’s what is happening on Tuesday.

They also destroyed one of the dragons.

Destroying dragons is kind of the point of this MMO.

Regarding dungeons:
You only get 66 tokens per explorable mode run. It takes 1380 tokens to get one dungeon set. I think it takes another 500 for a staff? Anyway… that’s a good 21 runs.
1 run takes me probably an average of 45 minutes (some go poorly, some go well – our average is honestly probably higher than 45 minutes as we 4-man some). So that would be 21*45 minutes, which is 945 minutes or 15.75 hours, and we’ll round that up to 16.

1. 300 for the staff
2. you probably shouldn’t be trying to 4 man. Dungeon runs (except for Arah) normally take between 15 minutes (Sorrow’s Embrace, Citadel of Flame) and 30 minutes.

Problems:
1)That gets boring fast. My group likes to alternate dungeons so we don’t get bored doing the same one over and over.
2) When we do a dungeon on a weekend, we only do one run of one path of a dungeon because it takes a bit of the fun out of the game when we likely run into some issues just getting through the dungeon. For us, that would take us 21 weekends of the same dungeon or 5 months and 1 week in the same dungeon doing it every weekend. We often don’t do one every weekend either. We want to do other stuff like living story or leveling or…

Good news! Dungeon armour skins are normally unimpressive and only used for the stats (unless you ran something like Arah, which is considered hard, therefore you can show off), besides dungeons when it comes to exotics you can craft them, buy them, buy them with karma, buy them with WvW tokens and when it comes to ascendeds you can’t really get them in dungeons anyway ^^.

I’d like it if there were a universal dungeon token that let you get an armor set from any of the dungeons for spending 16 hours total in all 8.

Bad idea. You would encourage people to do nothing but farm CoF path 1. Arah that takes 4 hours if you’re unexperienced would never be run.

^ you should talk to NPCs outside of Lion’s Arch. There’s an NPC Asura in shock because she carried out the corpse of her child and they burred it in a mass grave without even letting her say goodbye, there are NPCs saying that they don’t feel like living anymore because they lost their spouse or their children, there are some known NPCs K.I.A. (not all can be found anymore). There’s dark humour mixed with a tragedy. In my opinion as the setting goes it’s pretty much as good as it could be.

I haven’t played WoW since BC, and if you think this game is hard I feel bad for you. And the thing with WoW, is that they REWARD you for playing the endgame. This game gives you little to nothing but horrible gameplay.

1. Left WoW due to constantly increasing gear tiers and levels. You do nothing but grind for days to be able to enjoy the game for a few weeks. Why do that when I can reach level 80 and do everything I want without the fear of falling behind?
2. If you think this game is horrible then go and play something you enjoy.

killcannon.2576:

I have yet to see anyone who would pay to play GW2 as a subscription game.
One of the top reasons given by players who like this game has consistently been that it is buy to play.

Rather telling.

if it wouldn’t change to be more grindy in order to require people to stay subbed for longer, I would. It’s the only MMO where you can’t really fall behind much and can continue working towards your personal goals.

Nage.1520:

Casual guilds for the win. My friends (and no one in our guild) would have treated you that way. That’s just wrong.

Finding the right guild for your play style is half the enjoyment of any MMO. I suggest you were in the wrong guild, which sucks. But if you find the right one, you could end up really enjoying yourself.

The guild that I’m in as a semi harsh policy (at least for some people) where you have to either inform people that you’re going to be away or at least get a single achievement point in a month to stay in the guild (as in log in and do one part of the daily). Then you’re counted as active.

TankinJankins.3276:

Vanilla and BC WoW took MONTHS to level, even an experienced powerleveller would take about 2 months to hit the max level. And even with this incredibly long levelling time, it was still the most successful MMORPG ever. Pacing is an incredibly important aspect to making an MMORPG successful.

it was one of the least grindy games when it came out. Especially if you compared it to games like Everquest or Silkroad Online. It’s still going to the less grindy direction and so is the rest of the industry.

I wish the skin wasn’t blue. I love the armor, but the only thing holding me back from buying it is the fact that the skin is blue…and there is no option to turn it on or off. I know it’s supposed to be “zodiac” themed, but how can it be possible to mix and match zodiac armor with other armor when the boobs and arms are blue but the legs and head are flesh tone?

If you’re a sylvari and recolour yourself to be the same tone of blue you can mix and match ^.^

This was actually touched on very well by a dev response I saw earlier. The idea is that no time gating makes this game very hardcore, and the casual players would get fed up and leave. Extreme time gating would get frustrating for those hardcore players, or those with a lot of time, and all you would have left our casual players who don’t play often. GW2 tried to find a good mix of time gating, so that there is a wide range of players.

Although I hate it too, I understand why they put it in there. It’s one reason why the game is as successful as it is, because casual players and hardcore players flock to it. But it’s also a reason why I think it’s dying. It can only entertain those players times for so long, at the same time. The hardcore players start to feel like they can’t progress, or there is no real progression, while the casual players feel like they can’t keep up.

TL;DR IMO the game tries to cater to all player types, which is the reason it feels like intangible progression.

the time gating is kind of flawed though. Imagine if a hardcore player can play 7 days a week, but a casual can only play one day a week. They have that day completely free. They could dedicate a lot of it catching up to the hardcore player, but they’re stuck behind a time gate.

Suggestion how to make casual life easier:

Instead of dungeon becoming unprofitable if ran more than once a day, make sure that the money reward is only once a day, but you can claim the ticket reward several times. However make it so that you can’t salvage dungeon armour and can’t mystic forge it. There you go, now a casual can outfit themselves in a day.

Having in mind that ascended items are account bound and ascended materials are account bound crafting time gate makes no sense.

There’s no reason why you couldn’t get 30 dailies at the start of each month. They won’t refill until the month ends, but trough out the month you can do 30 dailies. You can do them once a day, or 7 a day. Everyone is capped at 30 a month, however people that have only certain days free now can catch up.

Personally, Id much rather arenanet abandon the living story and focus on making all zones appealing to play in at any time. No matter the server I am on, or guesting on, most zones are empty. Someone that would quote me here and say “well not on my server”..is just naive.

I don’t actually know how would that be possible. In all MMOs people tend to flock to one or two end game zones. If one zone would get updated, all people would flock there. If they updated all zones at the same time, mass would get confused, spread out and then you would see relatively few people in every single zone. Then in a few days one person would figure out what’s the most profitable, or fastest, or gives the most karma, etc and once again all of the population will run there. I don’t think that there’s a way to solve that.

Living Story almost over.

1. What core end game would you like? Because if it’s vertical progression, I oppose. If it’s new dungeons and a new way to get ascended (something like raids perhaps?) then I agree.
2. If you’re playing from LS to LS you’re logging in at least once every 2 weeks. Whichi s more than people would with content delivered by a huge expansion.
3. Completely agree with you on time gating.
4. I wouldn’t want them to stop with the living story. However I would like them to introduce new races, places, classes, dragons and dungeons with the living story.

I feel like you don’t know what the word convenient means. Previously we had access to all that stuff WITHOUT having to deal with annoying loading screens. Now we don’t. Do you even understand the point of having central hubs in an MMO? GW2 used to have one, now it doesn’t. Unless you pay $12.50.

It still has a central hub. In Vigil’s keep. And lesser cities as main race cities. You seem to not to know what a central hub is. Remember other MMOs. Is absolutely everything located in one city? No. For example: you can’t get PvP gear in ANY of the main cities in WoW, you can’t raise your cooking to the max (or any other profession for that matter) in Mists of Pandaria city, your raid vendors won’t be in your main cities.
In fact I can’t remember a single MMO where everything would be saturated into one place. GW2 is more normal now than it was previously.

Exactly. You’re not entitled to anything, not even the base content. The User Agreement is clear. All we can have from NCSoft and ArenaNet is regulated by that agreement. Thinking differently is legally wrong.

Not really. You do have rights to the base content because that’s exactly what you bought. You’re not entitled to anything on the gem store or the ability to change anything.
Same with single player games. You get what you buy. You can not dictate what goes into updates afterwards.
Same with restaurants. If you bought a steak you’re not entitled to being able to tell the chef what kind of risotto they should serve.

In other words you bought a game. You have what you bought. Don’t like the passes? Don’t buy one.

I agree with every point of this post, especially with the

It’s part of the story/times change/you fear something new:
No. I love what they are doing with the story BUT when you take that convenience away and ask for money for its replacement, it is an OBVIOUS bait and switch.

I honestly do not know why something like that can happened, i mean what am i suppose to tell my friends that wana buy this game? “Well they made a change recently and now you gotta spend gold or money or travel to other cities wait all the loading screens spend report money for something that was there for free, and no i have no idea why they did that, well ok for the money”

1. What I find funny is that people wouldn’t have the problem if it was just the lack of convenience and no item on the gem store.
2. Going trough an Asura gate costs nothing, the load screen takes 5 seconds. Going to WvW to craft and the leaving it costs nothing. And even if you decided to use waypoints instead of gates (even though gates are more convenient keeping in mind that they’re right in front of the mystic forge in vigil’s keep) you would be using like 2 silver when you’re level 80. I can make 10 gold in 1 hour by running cof twice and catching two world boss events and you’re complaining about 2 silver?

Buying and selling is a negotiation, and I’m suggesting we step our game up and push back on what they’re trying to feed us. Alternatively, enough negative PR could always have the effect on them determining it’s not cost effective.

enough negative PR would only shut down the game. And what would that achieve?
If you don’t want something, don’t buy it. I’m sure plenty of other people will. Other than that you deserve nothing except for the base content that was there when you bought the game and you are not entitled to anything.

ArenaNet isn’t treading on pay2win (again, arguable depending on how you define pay2win), they’re working the questionable micro-transaction invest-2-play business model that mobile gaming is heading towards. Bonus feature paid items (like the pick) are indicative of this and something I hope they avoid in the future.

When the opposition to it is a really small percentage you would probably have a better chance trying to find a new perfect MMO than hoping that a similar item will never be on the gem store again.

Mirta.5029

I have two issues with the pick, my minor issue is that it opens the slippery slope for superior gem store items (which will be debated forever). My second issue is more concrete in that the pick smacks of double dipping, which I believe is anti-consumer. It targets a group of individuals who were satisfied with their infinite pick, but are now inclined to pick up their “infinite pick+1 now with even more sprockets.”

If there weren’t an abundance of non-questionable items they could be launching I wouldn’t be complaining, why open up your brand to question? Seems kittenty to make a quick buck at the potential expense of consumer good will.

There is a calculation that in order to make your pick worth it you would have to stand on an ever respawning node for friggin years. Not wroth it.

In my opinion the brand was not opened to question. You’re being overly paranoid. And hell you can always vote with your wallet and leave for an MMO that does it better.

Only rage it wasn’t done sooner, honestly. People hate the sylvari and I want the asura removed from the game for being insufferable. More insufferable each day.

Everyone has their own preferences. I love asura and find humans too boring to exist in the game world. But neither of us has written the lore so it’s not our decisions.

Does the company send you a paycheck, or do you just like the way corporate milk tastes?

I’ve answered both of these questions already, we’re going in circles.

I just don’t like legit businesses being under attack. I could show you pay to win and I could show you laws being broken in the corporate game world, but you rather attack a business making money out of harmless items.

I’m not comfortable with gem-store items introducing functionality not available from unpaid/unconverted currencies. Many users said exactly what you said, but now we’ve come to the Captain’s Pass and it reopens the issue all over again.

It’s not like there isn’t a dearth of real problems Anet couldn’t be creating paid solutions to.

What functionality is unavailable for you? Can you not get a bunch of pickaxes from a vendor? Can you not use an asura gate and travel to a city hub? What was removed exactly?
And what are these real problems that they could be monetizing with a permission from you?

I’m not claiming I’m inconvenienced, you’re missing my point.

I’m suggesting ArenaNet created what some players are going to find an inconvenience (surely you agree some do, though you personally are not), and offered a paid solution to it. This begs the question: did Arenanet willfully leave out vendors, or did they figure out how to monetize AFTER they left out vendors? Not particular inspiring!

Following the Watchwork pick, it sets an especially bad precedent and paves the way for similar anti-consumer gem store purchases down the line. I think we should absolutely high five ArenaNet and buy gem store items when they solve real problems, not ones of their own design.

How is the convenience of an over-priced pick an anti-consumer move exactly?
When the game turns even remotely pay to win, complain then. Now you’re complaining about a pick that won’t pay off for over 10 years and about a 5 second load screen.

It’s not a complaint so much as an observation, but ArenaNet willfully INTRODUCED a minor inconvenience and IMMEDIATELY offered a paid remedy to said inconvenience. This is shady business practices 101, inevitably some users are going to pay for it.

I am all about paid gem store purchases, but not when they solve an artificial problem.

Your opinion is toxic and will only hurt you/ the player base in the long run.

Minor problem that would have been in game anyway solved with a ticket that you can get with a drop. It’s a solution for a problem that is only going to be live for a few months. Oh such an inconvenience to go trough a 5 second loading screen!

What I find funny is that people complain about the smallest of things more than they complain about a profession and level boost to 9/10 of the maximum in pay to play MMOs.

Yes.

As it stands, the evidence points to ArenaNet deliberately leaving NPCs out of the “replacement” Lions Arch facility. If your scenario were to occur, then you could attribute their decision to oversight or a desire to get individuals to use the other main city instances.

So then your complaint is the fact that you can go around minor inconvenience that would still have been caused by buying a pass used to keep a game that has no subscription fee alive?

I worked for so many exclusive items, I have so many of them in the bank, that I don’t care if other people have a shot at all of them. It’s hard to explain. I like variety and I like seeing variety. I have more variety in my bank than I have characters. I like seeing other people dressed in all the different things. Think how often do you see the original Sab blue backpack? How about something newer? The crystal wing backpack? How about the backpacks from Southsun cove?
People tend to be geared up in the latest thing. The latest backpack. The latest weapon. The more of the early stuff they’ll be able to get, the more of the early stuff will be worn and the less everyone will look like they’re a copy of each other.

That sounds like a bot. Afk normally means not doing anything.

Miasma is good, because it revives regular NPCs. You know, all the heroes are forced to leave, but every time we re-enter, BAM all the dead citizens are alive again!

if they’re doing something without touching their keyboard, that’s botting. You can report for that.

Making it 50-100 gems shouldn’t be a problem, will just cost a week’s worth of gold. 1,000 is too much unless your paying real cash.

If you really need it farm iron. Very god kitten boring, but quite profitable at the moment. Yesterday after dedicating one day, I farmed 1150 gems, or a bit over 90 gold to get the zodiac armour and a total makeover kit.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Iron_Ore_
I have 8 characters so I can just farm rich iron nodes alone, but if you don’t have many, I would suggest mining all of the zones clean then combining that with a bit of dungeoning and eventing.

In short, if you dedicate a single full day, it’s more than possible, but really boring.

(Also when it comes to making money this way, if you have 8 characters you need to make barely over 1 gold a zone, if you have 9, it’s exactly 1 gold a zone, if you have 1 character it’s about 10 gold a zone that you would need to make, so like I said, you would need to literally bleed a zone dry if you’re playing on a single toon)

Bad analogy. Nothing changed with the mining picks/axes/harvesters in the world when they released the unlimited version that you could purchase. If LA was not destroyed, then yes, it would just be an added convenience.

The main point that nobody is defending here is why changes coincided with each other.

So they did. So what? Can you or can you not access all of the services without paying? Yes you can. Can you do that for free? Yes you can.

If Arena Net thought that people could do everything they wanted in other cities, WHY would they release a new place for all your needs that costs money?

For convenience. Look at the permanent mining picks. Can you or can you not mining without getting a permanent one? Why would they release the permanent one then?

so wheres your relavence between living story and cash grabs being set in? ;-P

LA is destroyed completely. It’s nice for them to move the services out of it to begin with. They could have just restricted our access to the mystic forge for a few months.

As for the cash grab – it’s not really a cash grab if you can do everything without the airship for free and it’s not really a cash grab when the airship passes are dropping let and right.

your right about most of it , the P2P always being better is always up in the air , this game was good but now that were seeing cash grabs the F2P aspect (the bad one you see from companies like EA) is starting to rear its ugly head , as much as people like to say “just go to another city” thats even more loading screen time i didnt have to deal with , and im still trying to grasp where ppl think running around in LA was slower then dealing with a loading screen , cause ive never seen that….pop swiftness , dont be a kitten and ignore obvious short cuts , and it was FAR faster then the loading screens. This is a cash grab people , get over it.

So your solution would be to never have living story or anything interesting happening, because less than a minute of a load screen is being a money grubbing kitten?

lets see i ran around on my necro , go to the artificing station , run to the cooking station , run to mystic forge , run to TP after selling a bunch of junk , see where this is going? cant exactly do that in our “temporary” place in vigil keep , loading screen would take alot longer then all of that as no other city has a mystic forge (unless there was a ninja update that put them in all the cities)

Do all the crafting and all the TP first, THEN go for a mystic forge. Did you really continuously run backwards and forwards? Because that’s not very efficient.

You now have to pay waypoint costs, whereas you didn’t before (openworld -> WvW = free, Asura gate from WvW -> LA = free).

Vigil’s keep -> mystic forge -> asura gate to Rata Sum. You can repeat the process in reverse too. No costs for anything. Also Vigil’s keep → WvW free and WvW → character select → vigil’s keep free

Person A
“I always took Highway X to get to work. Then one day the city decided to change Highway X to Tollway X. Now I have to pay for the same convenience I used to get for free. Sure, there are other alternative routes to get me to work, but these are far less convenient. I’m not happy with this change.”

Person B
“This isn’t a big deal because I don’t think it’s a big deal. It’s not like you have to take the highway to get to work. Besides, you should be happy to pay the tolls; that money goes to support your local government.”

you forgot to mention that the difference in time between the highway and the other road is only about 3 minutes.

Now take real life – a morning train got canceled and now instead of taking a train at 8, I have to take one at 7 and stand outside the lecture hall for an hour. Can’t really pay anyone to have that inconvenience changed.

My point: mystic forging, jumping trough the gate at vigil’s keep to get to rata sum to craft and go back to vigils keep costs you barely any time at all even with the slowest of the computers.

More variety is better, but, part of my point is that it is and can certainly push some people’s comfort zone due to where the skimp is, not that it’s skimpy.

Everyone knows we’re going to be seeing skimpy armors. I’d personally like seeing an armor that had an open back, showed some leg, showed some midriff, and some arm… but not… that much of the chest area :/ On the set I’d like I’d like the chest to be at least as covered as Raven Shaman (which we can’t get >_<).

I personally find the completely open chest artistic (if you don’t see the nipples on it). It makes your character look like some sort of alien celestial body rather than an actual individual. I really like the weirdness of it.
