I actually considered, in a moment of madness, buying a set of Heavy for my Guardian, then I saw the boots. Luckily that brought me to my senses.
What are your settings at? Because for me telling the shape of the character is quite easy.
And they represent what they’re named after. Zodiac. GW1 had enemies and weapons with a similar skin, GW2 has armours.
Personally, I think it’s awful and has no place in the game.
If I wanted to play a shapeless mass of gunk, I’d fire up the PSX and play Army Men. Or play with Fun Boxes till I got the ooze transformation.
I’m pretty sure that it has the shape of a humanoid. Female in my case.

As about the whole over sexualization debate – I consider this armour artistic. The nipple was probably not intentional and taken that out of context you can look like a goddess made of stars. Even if it had no armour anywhere on top of that goddess skin it would fly with me (having in mind that we wouldn’t get nipples, private lady part crack from the front side and lower region hair), making us look just like some sort of smooth aliens.
My opinion on female armour: as a female I like to reveal myself. I like my human body. I wouldn’t mind some more revealing armours in GW2. Please don’t modify this one by covering it up. If needed release an optional tick (like show helmet, gloves, etc) that allows you to toggle between the nude and not nude armour appearance.

Hmm…. but if you lost a treasured item and you went to look for it but as you got there someone had already picked it up and you then saw them trade it for a recipe how would you feel?
We should probably not try out our magic killing skills on animals to see how much damage we do, we shouldn’t eat the refuge’s children’s drawings (who eats drawings?!) and we shouldn’t have just left LA after partying a lot when Scarlet arrived to give her some time to destroy it, so we could repeatedly run into it to save never ending numbers of survivors that always replenish when the toxic gas reaches maximum.

laurels, forge, portals, dungeon vendors – all in vigils keep. If you don’t want to spend money, then jump to any of the major cities from there and go craft. I don’t see this as money grubbing at all – all of the services are still available in game.

I know that nothing can be done, but I feel like it’s unfair to change the deadline so close to release. Last time I was pretty much unable to participate in the patch, because I was a week late, and all the mobs like Marionette and the worm were no longer attempted on my server even, so a few days might mean that you’ll miss pretty much all group content.
They can’t please everyone. Anet is based in the USA on the Pacific side. They have GMT-8. You will still be able to enjoy it tomorrow evening with probably with a few hotfixes in-between.
A delay is a delay. I prefer that if they can fix a few bugs before release.

I agree that the first person view is pretty bad for a MMO.
In my opinion it’s perfectly fine and more MMOs should release with the choice of first person/ third person that most RPGs have. After all even Guild Wars 1 had first person if you felt like it. Plus wouldn’t it be cool to get out of combat, climb up to all of those vistas and stare at them trough your character’s eyes?

That system is kind of like the tri-key chest we got. The BLC key system is basically a money-grab which I wouldn’t be surprised to be the brainchild of than Nexon micro-transaction guy.

There is lots of smart Flippers around and let me give u an example how they can damage the prices a bit
2-3 weeks ago Orichalcum ore was 7S+, Today its 4s “Should be expensive more than that” But a lot of flippers but an “x” amount of Orichalcum ores to flip them once Ascended Armor Crafting is out but there was greatly too many of them + Gathering Bots are running around now a days so it screwed the Orichalcum Ore market

First time ascended weapon crafting came out, nobody knew what materials will be needed, it was a shock to the economy, however, like me, most people now thought that they knew what material will be most used when armor crafting comes out, so we all saved our T6 to sell later. Now what happens when everyone sell at the same time? There’s more supply than demand, especially with people that were deciding to craft saving their T6 up.
Now look at prices or silk. Of cotton. Of that weird red cloth thing (I forgot its name). What do you see? A price explosion. Suddenly these items are more than 10 times more expensive. Guess what? Nobody thought that those would be used.
2nd Issue at hand is Broker Flippers
They just flip the broker buying an item or a material or w/e for an Small “x” Amount of gold and sell it for higher basically earning money over time by almost doing nothing and it causes the prices to go higher and higher over time
There’s nothing wrong with this one and trying to stop it would impact individuals trying to sell/ buy without playing the trade post greatly.
Why this is not an issue:
1. You can’t set your own price if there’s nobody to buy for that price.
2. You’re always at risk of someone deciding to sell for far less
3. It’s a gamble. People lose a lot in it.

And have Black Lion Chests also come with Black Lion Keys when you buy keys off the Gem Store.
A black lion chest is like 4 copper. You can afford a key, but not a chest?
What mechanic is there in dredge bomb door? I am curious cause unless your full zerker you cant clear the dredge out before they re spawn…. unless your tankie you cant live long enough at the door for the bombs to go of?

I dislike the length of dredge, however that’s where most of the profit comes from my fractal runs. Dredge just has so much loot.
Till ascended weapons came out, Legendaries weren’t any better than a karma weapon you could easily obtain. Or an 80 silver exotic on the Trading post. Your point is invalid. Please try again.
Also, no you can’t buy ascended. You can, however, buy all the mats you need to make a full set on day one. That’s paying to win. You now have an advantage over players that cannot afford the gold, for whatever reason.

That depended on personal perspective. People complained about fractal level not being account bound because they didn’t want to waste time leveling their alts. I’ve had 3 toons at level 49, where I leveled each and every one of them by putting time and hard work into them. Now that was also taken away in favor of being on equal footing.
People that put work into multiple characters were not complaining about level not being account bound, people that had one toon at high level and didn’t feel like doing fractals all over again on different toons complained.
and in the end the outcome is exactly the same. Your 3 toons are still the same level as one another.
Of course you’ll exhaust the content, they can’t possibly bring out new content faster than you can play it.
Actually they are bringing new content pretty fast (Living Story) it just seems to be focused oddly at the moment.
We have 4 more living story updates left with Scarlet. A generic, annoying villain. There were at least 2 new maps added, one of which was removed.
Now what if instead of Scarlet we had a dragon? We would have been at least half way there into a new epic storyline, instead of messing with Scarlet’s thugs. What if instead of some celebrations we had 2-3 maps into Cantha and Ellona opened? What if instead of a new ascended tier we had two new permanent dungeons?

was playing since August, when the pre-order people were let in.
Really what I was trying to say is that right now for a casual player this game is 50/50. The content (as in, don’t sweat it if you miss it) is quite casual, the new gear type is not.
I think that the game would benefit from a 180 – casual approach to gear types (no tier after ascended, easy last tier acquisition, etc) and more important content (new dungeons, continuation of the main story, etc), that way there would be more to do, however less to fall behind on.
There are games where players can pay real money to be more powerful in-game than non-paying players. These games are call Pay 2 Win.
And then there are F2P MMOs that only have vanity stuff in their cash show just like GW2.
With the current in game economy and the grindy tier of ascended gear I don’t thin kthat the game can be called casual players dream. However it’s still not so vertical that a newbie could never catch up. Really can the game hold its casualness depends on its further developments. If it gets no new tiers, then fair enough, however the further up we would go, the harder it would be to catch up, making the game very much not casual.
The game does have updates every few months (it is going to be considerably slower now, with the next one on the 21st of January) and those said updates are mostly small story/ some activities kind of updates, where if you miss it you don’t really miss anything. While in one way it’s good, I would prefer the game to start releasing new zones and continue its dragon storyline, because to be honest, after 2 years I did exhaust all of the content, however if you’re only starting up, these kind of updates are perfect. It is a one time pay only, which is once again good.
Of course it won, there’s was no competition in 2013 for MMOs.
Tera. I would most definitely say that GW2s main competitor on the market right now is Tera, that also updates frequently, has little grind and actually removed a lot of repetitive quests recently.
Speaking about the whole top ten, I found it massively outdated, either that or the people that wrote it never actually played the game, for example Neverwinter Nights are massively pay to win, how could you exactly put that MMO up there?
Sure, planetside deserves to be there, however Everquest 2? How old is that by now? How grindy and not innovative is it?

I might not have explained this well enough in the OP, but my friends are not those with time to spare to go from level 1-30, just to see that there’s dungeon content. That could take weeks.
A week is all it takes to get to level 80, not 30, in fact first levels are really fast.
I don’t think that anyone here is particularly young or has a sea of time, however if your friend didn’t like the game, they didn’t like it. Making it easier wouldn’t fix that.
Want to give them a learning experience? Tell them to do their personal story, want to teach them how to dodge? Take them to the fire elemental at level 15. We have world bosses, stories, Spvp (that up-levels you) to learn everything that we need, the game is not about the dungeons only.
Though did you take them story mode or explore mode? AC story is really not that hard.
This doesn’t actually apply to anything at all, does it?
You can BUY the only limiter for crafting (where mats would be a point of issue), but without the limiter the crafting would return to the Lv400 state of having no actual value to anyone who bothered getting it. Prior to this upgrade crafting was worthless, I could just buy my full gear set and crafting as a whole was a net loss in money with little hope of overcoming your loss to investment unless you got some bizarrely rare recipe.
And crafting is still worthless!
Why? Because there’s only one skin for ascended armor and it can only be gotten trough crafting, it’s also account bound and not sellable, meaning that if anyone wants to get ascended armor they have to pick up crafting themselves and they will be making the time limited items themselves.
Pro’s
- Time gates help players with less time (If I can only play an hour a day, my time is more rewarded.)
- Repeatable time gates add “pressure” to log in which helps create possible reward loops and play patterns (I want to log in every day, which often can become play experiences, talk with friends, strengthen relationships and get players into a pattern of seeing what’s going on.)
- Time gates equalize players by bringing the hardcore and the causal players closer together. (Players play at an variety of different times and intensities. This makes balancing wealth disparity and play times/progression much harder without actual gates.)
- Time gates help group players up (guilds 1 week timer helps group a large amount of play times into the same time frame.)
Reasons for time gating
- Exploits (Many time gates are there to avoid exploits)
- Overflow issues (the way our tech works without a time gate, you can use overflows to reset your timer)
- Reward Equalization (keep the time to do something more even between hardcore and causal)
- Character vs Account (some things we want to reward the account and thus an account time gated reward allows us to do that cleanly, which stops people from deleting characters and renaming in order to acquire a large number of things)
I would doubt all of these.
If I’m really busy at the university, do I log in to guild wars for an hour just to finish my daily, or do I take out L.A Noire where I could solve one case? I would choose the latter. Why? Because it’s content that gets me to go places. I have exhausted GW2 content so badly that I would only log in every time an update would hit.
Exploits bit – ascended gear is account bound and can not be traded. How could a person be exploiting there? If they amassed a lot of laurels, skill points, karma and gold, why not to just let them get it?

Not sure I like the soulbound idea. Some people might have re-rolled and would end receiving gear bound to an alt they don’t play much.
I’m going to second the no soulbound. Think of it this way, by the time most people hit their second birthday, they would probably have their main in ascendeds. What would they do then? Sell the precious gear to a vendor for a few silver?
Keep it in their bank and hog up the space?
How would you feel if I could buy every single item from SAB simply because I have a good paying job, while you had to try over and over and over again, with a lot of frustration?
You pretty much can buy the same skins from the TP.
Also ascended = stats. Nobody should be unable to get the best stated gear just because they don’t craft. Give crafters the ability to make some account bound skins.
Ok another brainstorm idea.
What if certain pieces of ascended gear could be crafted and sold on the TP such as gloves and boots?

The Tokens idea is interesting and I am sure you are noting that with our Mega Boss update Tequatl players can earn Ascended Weapons with Unique skins (Sunless) and that we will be moving forward with that paradigm. The idea of more challenging zone meta events was raised in the Living World CDI and a good idea. More to follow on that. I also agree that there is a huge amount of awesome progression to be found in guilds. ‘It has moderate to good horizontal progression for dungeon gear looks and WvW gear looks. Now it’s time to start introducing some new ways of horizontal progression.’ I agree.

A note to this – please, if you will turn other living bosses to raid bosses too, please put them into separate instances and leave the kitten version in the open world. Tequatl is not pretty much not done at all, because casuals can’t just jump together and beat him and entire guilds are afraid that a) either the dragon will come while they’re still preparing b) they will have to wait for 3 hours c) some random will just jump on the bandwagon and ruin the fight.
While I did read what you wrote about the ascended gear I still don’t understand why its acquisition is so limited. What about people that like to dungeon? What about people that like to WvW? What about people that do just the dynamic events? Why do we have to craft the ascended gear? Why can’t there be more options asking you to engage in more difficult tasks that could help you get ascended? Why does it have to be a drop or crafted, while other tiers can be bought with gold, karma, tickets, WvW tokens, etc?
I do not like the idea of Ascended in general, but most of all I do not like how it is implemented. When this game aired, it was easy to get the highest level gear no matter of your playstyle and it was more of a question of skin.
Now different ascended items have set acquisition methods and are time gated. I want to ask, why is that so? If I play the game just to enjoy running dungeons, why should I go out of my way to craft a max level gear set? One might say “oh but legendaries are only acquired trough a set method as well”, however legendaries are sellable. Ascendeds are not. “They can drop in the open world” one might say, however the drop rate is pretty low and on top of that nothing can guarantee that you’ll get an ascended with the right stats.
For now I simply abandoned the idea of even having a single character decked out in ascendeds. However the idea that such gear types exist (gear types acquirable trough very few methods) scare me that this game will lose its focus and one day I won’t be able to participate in the newest content just because I decided not to go trough acquiring such a gear set. When that happens this MMO will simply lose its uniqueness for me and I will probably just quietly go somewhere else.
To sum up this post – I want more acquisition methods for ascended gear. For example dungeon tokens, karma, etc (obviously the amount required should be far larger than for exotic, won’t complain there, however I would still like to play however I wish and be able to keep on par with other players)

That would have a measurable and negative impact on the playerbase. There is no measurable or negative impact on players by lowering your fractal level to 30. You gained nothing and lose nothing with it changing. You already lost your time and resources getting there, sure. But you had fun doing it. It’s just like when your car is repossesed due to lack of payment. They don’t refund you what you paid because you don’t have your car anymore.
If you can tell me a single item or skill you lose by having your fractal level reduced to 30 we’ll talk.
What items would you lose if your WvW rank was reset and your PvP rank was dropped back down to 0? After all, they’re not removing the items that you have and you had fun raising your rank in the first place, so oyu don’t mind leveling bakc up again, right?
I have a solution, you can keep your level, but you will not be on the leaderboard and cannot enter Fotm until you go to the npc and have them reset your Fotm level to 30. Is that a better solution? You get to keep your effectively meaningless high number but you can never play that content again?
how about doing the same with all of the content then? You can’t enter WvW unless you get your rank reset back to 0. You can’t enter PvP unless you resent your rank back to 0. Oh and you can not do the living story unless you agree to re-level from 1 to 80 again. Sounds fair? After all you can keep your meaningless level 80, but oyu can never wanter out of LA again.
The level reset is simply not needed.
I was never level 30, but it still threw me off. People were not exploiting to get trough the level 30. Why should they be reset back?

Well they need content. Content for the past pretty much 4 months revolved around a race that I have no connection to (Sylvari).

When I say “plant themed stuff” I mostly mean the story itself. For one thing the items are not even that plant themed. The new helm looks like it belongs in SE, most of the armors that came out do not have anything to do with plants.
HOWEVER there are plant stuff in the game where it shouldn’t be. For example asura tiered karma weapon skins are plant themed. Why? No clue.
