There isn’t any “tank” or “healer” class, yet people still think they need it.

You don’t need it, but gearing P/V/T and being immortal (especially in huge events where the servers start to lag out, like Tequatl (I seriously can not even see its most of the time waves)) is really fun. Same goes for keeping your team alive while they just stand in one spot and don’t move (hell was on the asura fractal on level 30 and one of us was healing specked. For the lolz we decided to see if we can ignore the charges mechanic and just burst the boss mid way. At the end 3 out of 5 of us were down, but it died. That was like really fun and without the extra heals we wouldn’t have been able to do that). You don’t need it, but it’s fun. It’s fun to have more variety than just zerker. Plus nobody forces you to run with people like me – that’s why the LFG tool allows you to customize your message

Holy Trinity and Compromise

Guild Wars 2 could easily do it – their niche is not “no-trinity,” their niche is that they offer one of the best F2P games on the market.

What got me here to begin with is no trinity. I’m seriously really really tired of stagnation. If I wanted soft trinity I would be playing F2P (completely F2P, not even B2P) Tera that provides me with constant updates, new dungeons and is soon launching an expansion.
And Guild Wars 2 can’t advertise as the best F2P game on the market, because it’s not even F2P.

Please don't make traits start at 30

oh so you don’t know the extent of the elitism in GW2, it usually is not observed in PuGs but once again, pugs usually fail or take way too long to get anything done.

The people I usually contact with require everyone to not only have all the correct sigils, but the correct sigils for each segment of say a dungeon run, and if you don’t, they usually do not want you in the group.

You kind of just shown with this message that you’re an elitist yourself and you’re complaining that other elitists ask a lot from you? Find new people to run dungeons with and stop moaning on the forums.

Does GW2 follows the standarts?

Mirta.5029

1. Instance world – it’s not for wide audience – so GW1 was not following the standards!

Guild Wars 1 is CORPG, not an MMO. There’s no such thing as an instanced MMO.

2. Mobs have the same skills that players have – not following the standards!

1. Not entirely and 2. Most MMOs do that. Ever fought anything in WoW? I feel like every second mob that I fight is an Ice Mage, just like my character, because they’re using the same skills as me.

3. Mobs are not staying like other typical mobs in classic mmorpg (gw2 included). In GW1 groups of mobs patrolling the whole areas, and can meet other patrolling groups, so moving through location was dangerous. So not following the standards!

Same in WoW. I don’t think that there’s a single MMO where mobs are completely stationary.

4. Armor didn’t have any stats. Only defense option, that’s it! And they didn’t have any quality (white, blue, green, etc.). There was only about fashion. Not following the standards!

And yet unless I was wearing good gear I would be pawned moving trough PVE in Gw1. If it was only for fashion I shouldn’t have had to spend all of my money on armour.

1. Open world – which is typical for classic mmorpg. Especially for theme park mmorpg. Such games like EVE Online, are completely different.

Open World is required for a game to be an MMORPG. And Eve doesn’t have open world? Those massive fights over galaxies with 3000 players? Yeah… Not open at all!

2. Trait system isn’t a new system. Forsaken World, for example, or eve LOTRO.

every MMO has something similar to a trait system. GW1 had it too. Or did you forget investing points into trait lines?

4. Armors now have stats, and quality (white, blue, etc), with is typical for mmorpg.

GW1 armour also had stats and quality -_-

5. Gear grind – no comments.

What gear grind? Exotics are available for karma, dungeon tokens, money and you can craft them and nowhere do you require ascendeds, unless you’re running level 50 fractals.

6. Dynamic Events isn’t new system as well!

It’s new enough. Very few MMOs agree to try anything dynamic or changing.

7. Mobs are not patrolling the areas anymore, but staying just like in classic mmorpg.

Erm, yes they are. Ever tried to walk trough Orr? Or find a single mob for a guild mission?

8. Elite mobs/bosses have a lot of HP, which is typical for classic mmorpg.

Guess what! That was true in GW1 as well! Elite mobs had more health than regulars.

So I tried Wildstar and I missed playing GW2

But what I have gathered in game (I have asked in game), most players rather play dress up barbie and look good w/flashy particles and animations than competitive combat. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

If all you want is combat then there’s online games for just that.
Large scale 21st century or futuristic war? Planetside 2 and Battlefield
Medieval combat? Mount and Blade series and Chivalry.

I don’t think that any people enter MMOs for their combat. After all MMOs combat has been behind single player and combat specific games, because MMOs are not meant to be combat simulators.

Are you being sarcastic ? What did GW2 bring to the mmo industry ? Zergs pvp zerg pve and more zergs, zerker meta, lame storyline(traherne), repetitive combat, boring dungeons ( stacking, etc), hearts are not fun, unbalanced classes. Shall i go on ?

New forms of combat (after the Industry was completely stagnant for so long), the demolishing of trinity, less grind, personal nodes, personal story, everyone gets loot from killing an enemy together (even though WoW has adapted that model for their timeless isle).

And everything that you said is subjective. Hearts are not fun to you, yet for me it’s infinitely better than being sent to kill 50 mobs by a quest giver. And I don’t think that there’s a single MMO out there with perfect class balance.

Nice to see people STILL judge games by their art style and/or graphics.

/s

Well if the art style is unacceptable for a person, I doubt that they could get into a game anyway. I’m not that fussed about graphics (after all one of my favorite games is atom zombie smasher and that’s entirely make out of small 2D squares), however even I have my preferences and needs.
Needs:
- I can’t play a game bellow a certain FoV. I get too dizzy and nauseous to be able to.
Wants:
- I love a cuter graphics style and can’t stand bleak looking games. Doesn’t mean that I can’t play realistic looking games (for example I really like Crysis 1), however when it comes to games like Elder Scrolls Online the bleakness of it completely puts me off.

Dungeon Story - Still Character Bound

I suppose if they changed it, nobody would help first timers get it, unless there was a serious reward for doing so. What I would like is some sort of section in your hero screen where you clearly see what story your character has done. Because having quite a few alts, I get really confused and rotate trough about 4 of them until I find the right one.

Suggestion WvW maps with a goal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mirta.5029

Mirta.5029

I really love the new WvW map. Like all the others it’s a permanent zerg, however here you have a 2 hours cap, making it better. However this is not exactly what I would love. What I loved was very early in a completely different game. An epic battle lasting for days. You would say that I should love WvW then. Well… Not quite. There’s no clear goal that would end the match making the constant circle zerging quite boring. I don’t mind if just like Edge of the Mists it gets excluded from the main WvW season achievements, but, now you’re all going to hate me for saying, but…
What I want is vanilla Alterac Valley. Don’t run just yet! I don’t mean the layout, I mean the fact that the fighting used to go on until one team summoned a lord to help them, or without it reached the other team’s boss and destroyed it. How about a map where people can enter from all servers on the region and get placed in teams at random and then fight it out? The victory condition could be destroying the other team’s base. Or something like it! I just want a large match map that people from all servers could participate and would have a clear goal!

Heck, WoW has less grind than GW2 does. Most “AAA” MMOs I have played have less grind than GW2 does.[/quote]

Been playing WoW for a long time. Can’t force myself to get PVP gear. Leveling takes long. Gearing up takes long and the difference between gear sets is brutal.
Difference between ascended and exotic gloves? 1 stat point. And exotics are not grindy at all.

It’s easy man:

Pay for UNLOCKING a skin. Not for using it.

That way you have fewer skins you can use whenever you want.

Right now you have ALL the skins but can use them only by paying money everytime you want to actually use it. So basiccaly, you got nothing.

having in mind that people have like a million transmutation gems stacked in their bank, it would never pay off, unless you put such a steep price that nobody could use their own skin.

Yeah, keep telling yourself that

Well what do you suggest their system would be? Like all pay to play MMOs? Should they have a sub fee and a store? Because I don’t think that you will find any true MMO without any kind of store. And you will most definitely never find a completely free MMO, because quite simply you not only need to pay the original developers for all the work, you need to pay the current ones doing continued development and then on top of that there’s server costs.

I don’t get anything for free, as I haven’t played since November, and every move they make like this drives me further away from ever playing again.

The point is, a little monetisation is acceptable.
Yet ArenaNet are hellbent on finding ways to monetise every last update, and the gullibility of the userbase allows them to get away with this.

I can guarantee I spent more on this game than you ever have before I snapped to my senses and realised how I was being exploited. The relationship between myself and ArenaNet was very similar to that between a junkie and a pusher.

Oh, and the developers? Yeah, they really don’t see the gains that this monetisation strategy earns.
This is all about management and shareholders, hence the high turnover of junior staff.

Look at the things that are being monetised. If you actually got something new out of this, something that consisted of meaningful gameplay, I would argue that would be worth money.
But they’re simply finding ways of monetising existing systems that require as little manpower as possible.

This really isn’t value for money. The fact that once it’s implemented it needs no maintenance should make this at most a one time charge, but instead they’re getting you to pay for every use of something it only took one guy to implement and that will require little to no future development.

you’re calling vanity items monetizing? Try a pay to play MMO. For example WoW.

- you pay the sub fee
- you can buy level 90s by paying 50 euros
- you still have to buy expansions
- there’s still a store with mounts and pets in game
- you pay for moving each character to a different server, as opposed to moving them all
- name changes are far more expensive
- class, race changes, etc are monetized.

Then on top of that there are hard locks that make sure that you can’t clear the game too fast. For example you can only run a raid once a week. Oh and you can’t buy anything with in game money.

The gem store in Guild Wars 2 in comparison is completely harmless.

which is why they designed the currency exchange how they did so that we’ll be getting less and less gems for our gold as time goes on thus creating a slow building de facto pay wall.

gem price goes down if people buy gems and get gold with them. The amount of gold in the game is also increasing fast. When gems were cheap, people were selling precursors for 20 gold. If the pay wall would eventually happen then people would be using it to get gold, thus demolishing it. I don’t see anything wrong with the system or how the economy is now.

And you’re the reason the feel they can get away with this execrable behaviour.
No willpower, just a credit card and an internet connection.

if you’re converting gold to gems and the cost for the item is less than the cost of the armour, what’s the problem? It’s not like you can’t get gem items with in game money.

There was no reaction on how much the difficulty of the early content was tweaked. Mostly talking about Personal Story here, because the open world 1-30 zones are very easy anyway even for lower levels.

Because it was not tweaked. It was simply made grindy. Fight with weapon 1 until you level up enough to unlock other weapon skills. Level up till a certain level to unlock vistas. Level up to even unlock the personal story. The Chinese version is horrible and grindy.

If you remember, both the Chinesse and the Western audience reacted negatively to changes made to the Chinesse client. It did not make the game better, it just made it really grindy.

And when you talk about getting bored, you have to remember your first days in gw2. Getting to level 30 isn’t about trait points. It’s about learning your weapons, unlocking all of the new skills, and deciding how you play the game. There is a lot that new players have to learn, which is why it will be much easier on them in the long run.

I have leveled multiple level 80s and trust me it is very much about traits. For one thing without them early on you’re severely kitten. Which really slows the leveling down.

Dev Blog: Changes to Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mirta.5029

For discussions sake, does anyone have any alternative solutions to acquiring trait points, or would you prefer they simply revert the new leveling system for traits?

1. Keep it as it is
2. Make the traiting faster, not slower. If 5 traits will now be one, instead of awarding 5 do award 1. Start awarding them as early as it was currently (level 11) and finish faster. I don’t see any reason to limit the players.

Someone mentioned that a lot of players are running untraited and that’s why they made the change. The thing is when you started the game you were told how to do traiting and you were alarmed every time you had an unspent trait point. It’s not more complicated than in other MMOs. If people can’t learn to trait now, they won’t be any better at it with the new system either.

Dev Blog: Changes to Traits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Mirta.5029

I dislike this change. It feels like they’re trying to make the game far more grindy.
1. Why to increase the level a which you unlock traits? That makes the player weaker at the start and servers no other function besides slowing down their leveling.
2. I don’t think I like the fact that you can buy grandmaster traits. Depends on the price. If every single grandmaster trait book will cost you 10 gold, then I’m sorry, but that kind of grind added to the game is undesirable.
3. Why not to add specific challenge arena? At the moment how the trait unlocks will be handled makes me really dissatisfied. For example traits that unlock after running dungeons or doing WvW. That’s not making it like hunting traits like it was in GW1, that’s desperately trying to get people to grind old content just to unlock what they previously had.

LS vs Expansions And Is There A Differance?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Mirta.5029

Mirta.5029

I’m going to be pro LS here. Sure LS needs to improve to offer expansion like content (for example zones), but it has one plus – it keeps the people coming back fro a few days every few weeks, as opposed to keeping people for a month once a year. I got a WoW horse from playing Hearthstone, so I bought one more month of subscription time to pick it up again. It being between expansions – it’s extremely empty. So empty it’s depressing. The feeling is similar if you tune in near the end of a living story. However you can tell yourself then “oh in a week (or a few days) there’s going to be players again! For now maybe I should run a dungeon or do something that requires less people”. While if you log in to an expansion based game the feeling is more like “oh, it’s empty… I only have half a year worth of wait to go”. Not to mention the amount of money to spend yearly on expansions.

UW refugees who have not been invited to transfer to Gandara will not be welcomed by the Gandara WvW community. I can’t speak for the PvE community or for every player but there is a wide consensus that further transfers will be harmful to our community and will be looked down upon.

1. Dude that’s really harsh. Let’s say that Bob, that never belonged to a guild and never read the forums decided to change server. Suddenly everyone is being mean to him. Bob will probably just quit the game and spread the rumour that GW2 community is awful. Do not do that.
2. Can you direct overspill of people to UW? Please? I have a feeling that the server can succeed without there being guilds even, it’s just that we don’t even have people to band together with.

MMOs in a "disposable society"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As long as quality content gets provided the climb of players (or subscribers) goes on for quite a while. Look at WoW for example. It started dropping only around Cataclysm. Quite a few years into its cycle. Of course as time goes on old MMOs get updated. Hence them getting a sequel every 5 to 10 years. It’s mostly because of how fast the gaming industry was changing. If to compare it to TV shows imagine a silent TV show releasing constant episodes for 3 years, suddenly one with sound comes out. Soon after all of the TV shows have sound, except for yours.

Well we’ll see. They might take up even a more intense pace to compete. Either way I’m seriously against the dye change and I think that players should protest it (unless of course RNG gets taken out and you can actually buy the dye that you want. Imagine though an unidentified dye costing 100 gems and giving you common dyes over and over again.)

“Dye unlocks now come only from crafting and from the gem store.”

One pack is two and a half euros. A subscription is around thirteen euros, give or take a few euros depending on the game and possible discount for making a bulk purchase. So for that amount I can choose to obtain five packs (adding up to 25 common and 10 uncommon or rare) in GW2 or get full access to all items in another game for a month.

Uh-huh.

yup, it’s pretty outrageous. In comparison – unidentified dye on the trade post – 30 silver, 100 gems – 10 gold. No matter how it will be priced it will drive the price up of the dyes considerably. I expect an outrage on the forums when it happens and either it getting fixed or a bunch of players leaving.
It would have been fine if it was introduced this way when the game released. However taking something that’s currently free from everyone and adding it to payed content only? That’s unacceptable.

I’d keep the boss relativly easy and with good scalling (I think minimum of 10 people would be okay)

The reason why Tequatl keeps failing on most servers is because it requires 80 people. All bosses can be made far harder if the minimum requirement stays low (5-10 people)

I wish Anet would make more bosses immune to crit damage because as is people just pile up and deal over the top damage.

Teq is immune to crit. That doesn’t make people want to wear something tougher though.

Legendary weapons are not promoted as the ‘play the way you like’ reward. They are promoted as the ‘play everything, and quite a bit of everything at that’ distinction.

As you can see from their actions, ArenaNet wants the process of crafting one to be more dependent on doing a variety of things not less. Don’t expect that direction to change.

Then why is Spvp excluded?

Think about it from a gold seller perspective. They loooove free trials because they are free accounts for advertising.

I’m sure we will have a free trial soon to coincide with any other major MMO releases + the feature patch in April.

How was the armour changed exactly? the patch notes don’t help me at all and I don’t notice a difference in the preview window.

That’s what I would like to know. I can’t find pictures anywhere.

If I had one I would, but I would like to say that I saw the new one on medium armor, I think it was, and it looks very different… Less like star skin and more like star aura? If that makes sense. I am not surprised people want a refund.

Oh God now I really want pictures!

Did they change the armour itself? As in did they change the shape of it, by covering the blue body up, or did they just remove the transparent nipples?

Can you post an image of how they look now? Like preview in the gem store and take a screenshot. I’m unable to log in for another week and I did buy the set. I’m worried that they might messed it up.

Well there’s no other way to even attempt to communicate with them. And they do read. If a problem with an update is big enough the forums will go wild and they will do something about it. There also were changes that got implemented according to the CDIs that they did. So it’s not really pointless.
Plus it’s the best way to talk to a huge amount of players that you would normally not encounter (large percentage of forum users will not be from your server).

Make the Shadow Behemoth the next Tequatl

Nope to that. My server can’t even tackle Tequatl or the 3 worms because there’s not enough people. Hard content is fine. Extremely hard content that’s not instanced is debatable (because random pugs can ruin your chance to win). Extremely hard content that requires at least 80 people and is not instanced is a no no in my opinion. Extremely hard content that requires at least 80 people, is not instanced and will be overwriting content that is there? I hope that Tequatl was a good lesson and it will never happen again.
