Unnecessarily vague, but not false advertising. Another example of a poor choice of wording on Anet’s part but a far cry from false advertisement.

https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/177176/gw718.jpg

That is false advertising. “New Hairstyles!!” implies new hairstyles. “Try a new style!” or “Get a hairstyle exclusive to the makeover kits!”, would have been not a false advertisement.

Agreed. I didn’t mention that because my post was becoming a bit lengthy lol. They cannot override the law but they can still disable our accounts if they feel we’ve violated their Forum Code of Conduct, which is really the only reason I advise against discussing the legality of their actions here on the forums.

it would be wiser for them to go in and apologize for the error. Because an angry topic on the forum is better than a well spread petition or a lawsuit.

LE GASP! You suddenly have 10 agony resistance provided you run a full fractal set once a day for 3 days. This means you can now do fractals 10-19 with ease.

not required though as under the old system you would earn your rings running fractals 10 to 19 without any resistance.

4. It is mostly very casual rewards. What matters is the A-points.

the rewards for Spvp dailies are awesome as they speed up your reward track and from what I’ve seen getting gatherer is nice too as that loves to give me T6 materials.

If I can’t game on night when laurels (or coins, etc) are the reward, then I don’t get laurels for a long time. Whereas, if I missed one night, I only lose one laurel.

you get more laurels from daily log ins now (I think I’ve seen bag of 10 laurels 4 times in there?) and if you miss a day it doesn’t reset.

The PvE option that is coming up often is “Fractal – level specific”. Fractals take a lot of time. This is another “specialist” player daily, further excluding average player participation.

I have never seen it be above 20 (I’ve seen 1 to 10 and 10 to 20 though), those two level specific ones require no ascended gear, so while they’re time consuming, it’s not worse than putting let’s say a dungeon run of arah in there. Though more choice is really needed.

I don’t see any benefit with the new system of getting dailies

for me the benefit is that combining Spvp with PVE it makes it really speedy for me to finish. But like I already said, more variety is desperately needed.

LS 1 isn’t completely erased. There’s evidence of it throughout the world with the most obvious one being the state of Lion’s Arch. The devs decided on content that changes and impacts the world in “real time”. If you weren’t around for it, you missed it. Should there be NPC commentary about past events throughout the world, sure. It changed maps for crying out loud. And once you do that, unless you introduce time travel, new players can’t experience it because it’s in the past.

1. Some of it is in fractals, there’s no reason why in fractals there couldn’t be separate entrances for those particular instances with some backstory.
2. People who are just now doing their own personal story are engaging in time travel are they not? After all Zhaithan is long dead.
3. No reason why right after personal story there couldn’t be a section called “Season 1”, with a voice actor explaining what has happened while they could be scrolling trough cutscenes that we’ve seen in season 1.

Here is permanent, replayable content that’s free if you bother logging in before the next chapter is released..

The question is can you log in? Life is unpredictable and doesn’t care if you want to log in to Guild Wars 2 every 2 weeks or not.

Obviously the option of giving it to you for free isn’t a choice

why? They’re selling story related items on the gem store quite often, they’re giving it for free to people that have the luxury to log in and Season 1 was completely free. They don’t have to monetize this. From my point of view it’s just another way to disadvantage a new player.

And no, necros are not specific to your server, but we’re giving you advice on how to counter retaliation. You don’t need to have something exclusive for retaliation targeting for it to work.

either way if you’re paying with gold you’ll be gathering for 5 to 10 years to make it cost the same amount as buying tools, especially when winterday buried everyone in free tools. So it’s less about cost efficiency and more about never having to go back to town to buy tools.

So if you’re worried about price, you shouldn’t buy them at all as they’re not cost efficient. If you’re worried about convenience then people that did not pick the tools up in a bundle had the convenience of not returning to towns to buy tools for months (really having in mind that first tools were available still in Season 1, the maximum amount of convenience that you could have had versus the new person buying it on sale is around 1.5 years).

It’s kind of like buying a fast car and 5 years down the line complaining that now that car is on sale. By picking it up brand new you had a faster car than other people for years. And that’s exactly what you payed for. The only people to lose out would be the ones that bought the product weeks or just days before it went on sale. I did that with a game once. I bought teleglitch, just for it to be free on humble bundle the very next day.

SilverWF if you’re talking a blob versus blob fights then you counter a blob with a blob. Tell your blob to bring more boon strip necros (they can do it with aoe’s) and use voice coms to make sure that your commander tells you when to unleash the barrage.

Do you really expect to throw whatever skills with no strategy at all and win?

Bolded the relevant portion.

My guess is that ANet is testing out the program with the group that has the fewest legal issues to deal with to see how it works out before committing the time to figure out international law for other reps.

I did read that part. I’m still allowed to think that it’s such a shame that EU and Asia are not getting their own forum specialists

Now that’s sad having in mind that there are a lot of GW2 players from both Asia and EU. It would only feel right if those parts got representatives too as problems that touch one region do not always touch the other regions too. One of the examples would be the chest farm. It seems alive and well in EU, while NA it doesn’t happen so often.

An individual’s personal preferences for one game mode or another does not mean A.Net has limited their choices to 3/4. It’s still 3/12.

taking that into account and Spvp, PVE and WvW being separate before meant that the choice was 5/30.

So 1 in 6.
now it’s 1 in 4.

and yes, I do believe that people shouldn’t be forced into game modes that they don’t like, therefore more daily variety for Spvp, WvW and PVE would be welcome.

Its very easy to argue that someone else’s work should be available for free, after all you didnt pay its development costs.

Other people dont care about the LS, but do like gemstore items….should both be free so that everyone gets what is important to them for free?

Of course both actually are. Everything that you argue shod be free is accessible without any real world cost if the player chooses.

thanks for just quoting two lines out of my whole post. Lore is part of making sense of the world you’re in.

Personal story had parts of it erased and parts mixed up, so now it’s confusing rather than linear.
Season 1 got completely erased, leaving a lot of people wondering the hell happened at parts.
Season 2 is pay to access.

Now tell me who will pay for the crucial lore when other parts of lore where mixed up or misplaced? Why not allow the new player to actually know what’s happening, especially when there are zones tied to the story that they will probably visit?

Now compared to gem items, please tell me what kind of weight does your appearance carry in video games? Can you misunderstand the story because you look different? Can you be bad at gameplay because you look different?

Normally there are many important parts to a video game, but story, mechanics and gameplay are the most important ones. If this was a single player video game and old veterans did not remember the personal story being in correct order, did not see Season 1 and didn’t get Season 2 for free, how do you think they would have reacted to this game?

. . . which was what happened with the old ones too.

there was a bit more choice though. WvW was separate from PVE and for both you had to complete 5 out of 10 I think, which is better that having to complete 3 out of 4 (4 per PVE, Spvp, WvW). I do appreciate the reward chests for each one and it only taking like 10 minutes to finish the dailies now though, but still, more choice would be welcome.

Okay, I’m in game so I can confirm the numbers.

I’m not counting
Daily Completionist
because everyone (Spvp, WvW, PVE) gets that

4PVE:
Shadow Behemoth
Daily Fractal
Maguuma Miner
Harathi Hinderlands Event Completer

4 PvP:
PvP Defender
PvP Rank Points
Engineer Winner
Guardian Winner

4WvW:
Big Spender
Keep Capturer
Camp Capturer
Master Of Ruins

and I just noticed that dailies no longer award 1 AP a daily, but rather 10 AP for daily completionist, which makes me question why the selection has been brought down to 4 for PVE, 4 for SPvP and 4 for WvW. Why not expand each category with more choice?

Why is it OK to charge for content that they spent money to produce as well?

Because they are not a charity. They spend resources producing a product that is, hopefully, sufficiently desirable that people will pay them for it.

They then provide an option for individual players to get the content by playing the game to get in fame resources tradable for gems, without spending a dime. I can assure you that they cannot pay their development costs by playing the game.

They even allow players to play the new content without having to spend those in game resources. Anyone who has access to the content can share it with others.

They also give the content away at no monetary cost to players for just logging in once during a two week period.

Multiple options to access new content for free, they then provide a cash option for those who choose to not partake of the free options.

I have some serious reservations about Anet and GW2, but their business plan is not one of them. They practically beg us to accept the fruits of their labor for free while accepting real world payment if we choose to refuse getting everything for free.

yet a bunch of other companies are able to give you the core content for free?

The way that I see it, lore is part of the core content, if you’re unable to access it, the world makes no sense. They messed up the personal story completely, so that’s the initial bit of lore that I payed for that now makes no sense. I was lucky to be there for season 1, but people that missed it have absolutely no idea about what happened during it. And season 2, every new player will have to buy it.

So you buy the game,
you play trough your personal story and get seriously confused, especially at Orr,
you look at Lion’s Arch and wonder what has happened because you weren’t around to see it,
the you look at Season 2 in your story journal and see that you have to pay for it.

People won’t see this as a quality game, especially if they like to get immersed into the story of the world.

The person in question bought what the game included at launch. Developers add more content over time at significant cost to the company. How is it fine to charge for a product that one spends enormous amounts of money to produce ? Let me ask a counter question, if you spent a significant amount of money creating something to. Ring to market would it be appropriate for you to charge for access to it?

You make money of vanity items.
When was the last time we got a full armour suit, without having to pay on the gem store?
they’re already monetizing vanity items tied to the content that they release to the max, so why is it okay to charge for that content as well?

So you think story should be free. Why? Because Tera does it that way? WoW doesn’t do it that way, nor TESO, nor any number of other MMO’s. TSW was B2P at one point, and charged for story packs. There aren’t that many B2P games out there to compare to.

I tried Tera back when it cost. It was a bad game for me. The only MMO I’ve played where quests felt staler was WHO. My guess is you’re either paying for the content indirectly, or getting a free ride on whales buying whatever the heck the store has. You can be sure of one thing, they are charging for something. The only questions are, “What?” and, “What can’t you do in game unless you buy it?”

Tera is a really good MMO with an in-depth story, TESO has F2P rumours all around because they removed a lot of subscription options and WoW is the only game that can successfully get away with it.

Majority of F2P and B2P games charge for skins and vanity items. That’s completely fine. However how is it fine to charge for the lore of the game when the person has already given you 80£ for their game to begin with?

How many players demanded that the LW story not be temporary content? In order to accommodate that wish, Anet had to redesign the way they presented the LW story. This cost them development resources. Still, they give it away for free. All you have to do is log in once during the cycle. I don’t think that’s unfair.

It’s a buy to play game. Tera is doing completely free expansions. And to not delete content doesn’t exactly cost you money. Developing it does. So why exactly was it efficient to develop then delete Season 1 for free, but it’s not okay to give free lore to people that are joining the game right now?

well done in listing everything that I was thinking about.

I am a returning player. It really irks me that I will have to buy the whole of Season 2. I didn’t like the trait change either. However Guild Wars 2 is still unique in a way that it can be your go-to game in between games as it doesn’t exactly absolutely require you to put in a lot of time into it. You can still see fractal levels 1 to 10 without ascended gear and the investment of time to make ascendeds is just not worth it for a small power increase.

you mention things like “there is no endgame” “stats don’t matter” a lot. Guess what? These are the reasons I came back here. Guild Wars 2 can be played casually. You don’t need to grind to be on par with someone else to be able to see more content that is locked for you until you grind enough. Guild Wars 2 is like a virtual sandbox. You log in, you do whatever activity you want. And that’s one of the reasons why it can stand out from other millions of MMOs on the market. Don’t try to change that.

When I read posts like this, I wonder if you live in the same universe I live in.

WoW is completely 100% irrrelevant to this argument. Time and place. It IS a ten year old MMO and the landscape has changed since it came out. It doesn’t matter if WoW has 60 millon subs. No one has been able to replicate it and there’s no saying WoW could do it if it came out in this environment at this time.

WoW’s success is partly due to their ability to fund advertising and when it was released. The logic that applies to it applies to no new or current game. Thus irrelevant to the situation.

Every game that tries to be like WoW doesn’t go all that far. Certainly not nearly as far as WoW. WoW succeed through inertia. That’s all.

The rest of the industry which is what we’re talking about is evolving. The stuff that made WOW popular in its day doesn’t work anymore for any other product but WoW.

he has a point. MMOs are pretty much as old as internet itself. Starting out with text MUDs, moving on to MMOs with visual representation in late 90s. The genre even lived long enough to stagnate and only started to change rapidly when we entered 2010s.

There are things that I hate about Guild Wars 2. Played since the day it opened up, have the collectors edition, but it managed to leave a bad enough taste in my mouth for me to leave for 8 months. Personal things that I found to be problems in the game:

- heavy monetization of it when the game was released in China. Suddenly you didn’t gain gold with the current attractions, you lost it (namely I remember the change at the time was Queen’s Jubilee being fired up for the 2nd time and this time it required donations for it to spawn bosses and unless you beat it for gold it didn’t drop much), the game limited you in how much of a current activity you could do (namely in dungeons and fractals, where after you claimed the chest on a character that was it. Same for world bosses. You used to be able to go and kill the fire elemental on all of your characters and claim the reward, then it became once per account). On top of that, if you miss some story from Season 2 of the Living Story you have to buy it. I don’t understand why would you sell lore? Selling the ability to do achievements? Fair enough. But lore? Really?

- bad control of the economy. They lovered how much money a new player can make, but did nothing to control those controling the market with thousands of gold already in their pocket. On top of that due to rarity of some things, chances are you will never see a legendary in your life, as right now pre-cursors and legendaries are continuously increasing in price. I built mine when legendaries could be sold for around 1000 gold. My pre-cursor cost me 300. Now I see that legendaries are being sold for close to 4000. Solutions have been suggested (such as allowing us to craft a pre-cursor), but they have not been done.

- the lack of permanent content. I’m overjoyed to find two new zones. When I left the only things that the game got in a two year period was some fractals and a karka zone.

Now why am I here then? Because Guild Wars 2 is unique in a very casual way. You can choose how invested you will be in the game and still not miss out on any of the activities. You can choose to grind for ascended gear and spend a year making a legendary, but what advantage will you have over a casual player in exotics? Sure you will be able to climb up higher in fractals, but the other player will still be able to see fractals in level 1 to 10. I like the pointlessness of everything that you can go for in this game. It allows me to choose to not over commit.

Now think about all the players who will say the same about other features. Also, think about the dozens of players who believe that SAB isn’t series content and a mere waste of time.

You get a community that will never be statisfied which is actually the truth.
We like different things and the company can’t make everyone happy. Therefore they try to balance it up to have an overall positive community while keeping the profit coming in.

that would be a good argument if everyone would simply be demanding for a new chapter. The question is, why are the previous chapters closed to begin with?

Also + 1 to SAB, me and my boyfriend quit for a looooong time after SAB permanently closed. We came back, simply because we’re in between games right now, but unlike in the previous years when I would constantly buy 2000 gem cards, if I can’t earn enough gold to get the item, I don’t need it.

200 gems per episode is too expensive

in Living World

Posted by: Mirta.5029

Mirta.5029

200 * 7 = 1400 gems, or $17.50. I’m not sure I’d consider it an outstanding value if you have to buy all of the episodes, but $2.50 here or there to catch up a couple missed releases isn’t terrible, considering how much some people will pay for snacks, coffee, fast food, etc. on a whim.

As for figuring out the story and being unhappy that the characters treat you like you know what happened in previous episodes, when you skipped to episode 7, I’m not sure what else you were expecting.

the problem is, what am I supposed to do if not skip to Episode 7? Wait long enough to have to buy that one too?

Wouldn’t it make sense if every 2 weeks you could unlock one episode from the start of the season and play catch up rather than have to choose between paying money or starting in the middle?

I know that I should have been there in time, I know that it’s better than Season 1 which I will never be able to see, but I came back into Episode 7.

I had to spoil myself and immediately go into episode 7, because I don’t have 1200 gems to pay up right now. Now that I pretty much figured out the story, I won’t exactly be buying the other 6 episodes. Though it did leave a bad taste in my mouth that the characters treated me as if I know what’s happening.

Skins, achievements, tonics, put those under a pay wall, but when it comes to the story I would have rather had a chance to play it all from the begging.

hello all,
we’re 3 friends coming back from our 8 month holiday in Wildstar. We really didn’t want to part with our guild or our website, so we decided to create a new guild in Guild Wars 2 under a similar name to the guild in Wildstar.
http://www.the-unknowns.net/

We were always a more social casual guild than anything else. No pressure, friendly towards levelers. We would like to get enough people to have someone to dungeon and run fractals with. PvP would also be great, even though when we enter WvW we go there more to just have fun rather than commit to it.

My main is Mirta Wake. I have played Guild Wars 2 for 2 years prior to taking my vacation so I can sort of help if you’re completely new to Guild Wars 2, just don’t expect me to help with all the new stuff

Either way we only have two rules:

- don’t disappear for longer than a month without telling us anything
- don’t be a drama lama.

Enjoy the community of 12 year olds that filled “that other MMO”, but now have access to bunnies and swearing.

actually the community that stayed after the beta seems very mature. 30 is the average age of the guildies in the guild that I joined in that game. And it’s mostly because it reminds people of the original EQ.

300 is actually kinda small for a triple A game developer these days. Also keep in mind many of those employees don’t actually get their hands dirty making anything as you might think. Some of them their only job is to brows these forums, consolidate our feedback into bullet points, and deliver it to the higher-ups. Others are solely responsible for maintaining this website. While I do appreciate “community coordinators” and such, I doubt they have anything to do with adding a new race to the game, creating a new dungeon, physically decorating environments, modeling new weapons and armor, or designing skill/combat mechanics.

With them doing the feedback threads from time to time I don’t think that they have a lot of people dedicated to forum browsing. Especially having in mind that last year not only were they growing but had dedicated teams that produced content every 2 weeks. There was even content that could have made permanent (all the dungeons that were chipped to pieces and made into fractals), so I don’t think that they lack developers that could make n expansion.

I’m disappointed in GW2. Especially after the newest patches. Previously I would come back every time there was a new living story but now the last update left a really bad taste in my mouth. I was in several different MMO betas and only one stuck on me. I’ll be playing the MMO whose headstart begins at May 31st and the one that fully releases at June 3rd.

It’s so that people would buy gems and convert them to gold. This is on one of their official advertisement pages.

There was the event nerf.
I wonder whether it has anything to do with China release?

Of cause it’s China, anything goes wrong just blame China, even your mon had affair with your neighbors, it’s China’s fault, I don’t know why, just it is.

Well if you switch on the dev tracker you’ll see that even the devs said that it’s at least partially because of China.

Well, I would assume that most of their best talent has left for a good reason….

And I agree with many of the posters in this thread. This game is quickly starting to look like another cash-grab P2W scenario. I suspect NCSoft wants to shelve GW2 to make way for their upcoming MMOs such as Wild Star (you know, the kind that requires everyone to pay for kitten monthly subscription fees no matter what.)

I give Anet 3-4 months tops for improvements, now that they’re really going to have to work for it if they want to wow their new Chinese players. If we continue to see more cash shop in exchange for more stealth drop nerfs and RNG, then I think it’s time to say goodbye to this game and hello to something else. And that new “something else” won’t be Wild Star if NCSoft’s business model is anything to go by.

I don’t exactly think that it’s Ncsoft that’s even pushing them. For one thing they have a completely different publisher for China and their version is even worse and more pay to win. Now they want to bring this into EU/NA as well.

You keep posting that attachment across the forums like it’s a big deal. I suppose you have a problem with commercials while you watch t.v.

it’s one thing to advertise new items. A whole different thing to advertise currency exchange as if it’s something you have to do to get profit. That coupled with the recent nerfs just doesn’t look good.

The exchange rate is based off the players, so its expensive because people aren’t buying gems and selling them for gold.

NEWSFLASH: If people buy gems and sell them, the exchange rate gets cheaper. At the same time, because of the 30% tax, inflation is reduced.

In regards to loot nerfs, they are more of a balancing. Up until the nerfs, there was no point of running a fractal. It was far better to run dungeons or a champ train. Now that those have been nerfed, the economy is much more equalized.

They have an economic expert working on this game, and it is clear he is doing a good job as now I feel like I’m rewarded pretty much the same in all game modes.

1. Where do I complain about the gem prices? I’m complaining that they’re advertising buying gold, as if that’s what you’re supposed to do in the game now.
2. The economy equalization is really poor having in mind that each server already has a hand full of their own super rich guys that do not mind keeping the prices up, while the gold gain for a new player is cut down. I have a guildie that trough out all of those years made 5 legendaries, sold them all and has been playing the TP ever since. His money balance is always in the thousands and he wouldn’t let it fall lower than that.

So you have a problem buying gems? Why? If you want new content maybe you should support the company. Too many of the farmers and grinders just turn their gold into gems which I’m pretty sure doesn’t contribute to any sort of development money.

I have no problem with buying gems for gem store items. I have a problem with the company advertising to you that to achieve your in game goals you should buy their gems to convert to gold.

Weeniedale Train isn’t the only one in the game and was quite inefficient compared to other methods. Everything is going to be ok.

I would also like to point out that, although lots of mats on the market is good, level 5-10, still wet behind the ears, racking up 10 or 15 or 20g a day is VERY terrible for the economy and leads to immense inflation to endgame items. Plz don’t overlook this fact.

the thing is after the way the economy was deflation will not happen. Look at legendaries. There are some players that by now are juggling anywhere between 1 and 10 thousand gold and they’re completely fine with not only keeping the prices as they are, but inflating them even more. The only difference now is that the little guy will have problems catching up. Hell even Anet is now giving advertisements about selling gold for gems.

I find it hilarious that care bears are complaining about having to grind for gold now when all they did before was grind. How about just playing the game. After spending gold on consumables and siege I don’t make that much per hour but I’m fine with that because I enjoy what I’m doing. I have no sympathy for all of the cry babies that claim that the game is ruined when that type of player has been ruining this game for me from the start.

well I already put the response to “just play the game” statement into my original post – we are stuck with the same game content for two years now. You can only do something so many times until it becomes not entertaining. Unless of course there’s something else behind it that would drive you to repeat the content. Like for example loot.
So no loot = at least give us new permanent content
and
no new content = at least gives us loot to chase after our goals.

And really everything wouldn’t even be as suspicious for me if not the “did you know that you can buy gold from us?” add on their website.

What happened ? I just don’t find any real reason to play

There was the event nerf.
Then the dungeon nerf.
Then the champion train nerf.
And now the crown pavilion only gives you two greens for 40 minutes of work.
And this, this really makes me doubt for what purpose all those nerfs were made
(img of the gold announcement below)

I wonder whether it has anything to do with China release? Though why to divide the two regions even if you’re planning to nerf the NA and EU version to the ground?
I know what I’m going to be told “you shouldn’t be playing for loot!”. Well what else is there at the moment? After two years every dungeon I’ve done to death. Every zone has been fully explored ten times minimum. Even with the new fractals I’ve done all of them a few hundred times. Burn out someone would say. But burn out is not the problem. The problem is where the nerfs are leading. And adds like this get me worried.
I know that I shouldn’t bother with it. After all there are a sea of other MMOs out there and I can just leave for one until this one adds something new. And I will probably do that. But what I’ve seen yesterday left such a bad taste in my mouth that I can’t keep quiet.
