Just to confirm, we are working on new maps. I can’t give too many details, but a few things:
1) We’re trying maps with no cap points.
2) We’re trying mechanics that focus on high risk/reward mechanics that can win to sudden wins/sudden losses.
3) We’re trying maps that focus on “big play” moments that permanently impact the map flow/map status.
4) I can’t give an ETA on when you’d see one live, because we’re trying different maps, and each of them takes time to prototype, etc.I think that conquest is easy for new players to get into, and it’s allowed for some amazing high-level games so far! But we’d like to try some new things that get away from conquest.
Also, as many of us have said, we want to give players enough variety such that they can change what they play from time to time, while also being sure that we don’t fracture the player-base by spreading players out to too many different game types.
I know this isn’t a super exhaustive answer, but just wanted to give you guys a quick update.
Just check how much we want those changes to happen, especially the Arena, kill-everyone-on-sight map! This is freaking awesome! I’ve said it again, and I will repeat it, when Arena is released, me and many others will be pulling all-nighters out of excitement!
And as people said before, the sooner this change goes live, the better. I can’t imagine why anyone would not want to play guild wars 2 after this, it has such a good combat system that doesn’t shine in any pvp game mode so far.
I’m pretty sure that anyone on an assassin build can jump on you and kill you. Mesmers, thieves, fresh air eles, you know. And I doubt the teamfight power this brings can be compared to one a necro will bring, since a necro is way more tanky.
It goes way beyond what you are saying. The problems are so huge that they cannot be fixed except maybe in a completely reworked expansion.
The combat is flawed and unsatisfying because of things like passive procs. BUT that is only 1% of the problem. And just add to the power of auto attacks, which are way way too strong.
Losing to a ranger who just spams 1 button is a regular occurrence – even at the top level of pvp. All auto attacks should be way way worse. Passive procs should be removed or dodgeable. It is so unsatifying to die to someone just spamming 1 the whole time. It flaws the whole game. There is no cd management because you can always fall back to extremely powerful auto attacks.
It is unsatisfying to see your skills being so bad that you lost to an autoattacking ranger. Seriously, the situation you’re describing with such passion here is only your lack of skill. Maybe the ranger had no reason no press any other buttons since you didn’t actually do anything to him, and that was your fault.
-All proc on crit traits should be changed to a counter system. What I mean by this is instead of it being a mindless proc on your opponent, let it trigger every few critical hits with a counter on your bar so your enemy knows when to dodge/block. This will promote counter-play which is great for balance. This should also apply to passive traits that apply too much of a benefit without any thought process involved.
-Adjust Defensive/Condi amulets. I don’t like the idea of having amulets that are both tanky and provide damage. You’re getting the best of both worlds, this should NEVER happen. You are supposed to take a loss in this game when you spec into something. Whether it be damage, support or bunker. There needs to be give somewhere.
- AI/Passive skills should never see the light of day in a tournament. These skills should be available for new players to break into the game but should never be taken seriously. These specs require little thought involved and provide too much benefit.
-Skills that require effort(activation) should be heavily rewarded compared to those that do not(passive procs). This goes back to my previous points if you are to keep passive skills/traits as reliable as they are.
By far, the best and most contructive suggestions ever posted in this forums. I don’t know who you are (shame on me probably) but thank you for not being a typical QQer who complained about ranger auto attacks like the guy above. You are the type of guy arenanet should listen to, not the usuall QQers of the forums.
Because WvW. That’s why.
And if new tier every 2-3 months is added on this game, a lot of people would QQ. So ain’t happening.

Honestly, GvG has a huge advantage over PvP for GW2.
1. It is quite unique in the MMO scene
2. It is unique in the streaming scene
3. It is accessible to more players (since WvW is a low pressure environment to begin)
4. It is more interesting. Skills in GW2, especially with the camera angles, are not that interesting. With a 20v20 GvG with an objective focus, there can be a lot of innovations in the metagame.
5. It caters to a huge demand of the playerbase for guilds to mean more than a social hub.How do you host 40 people and 40 desks with computers on them, on a scene, in front of a crowd?
Also, I don’t think 20v20 GvG is viewer-friendly. Maybe 10v10 could do it, but 20v20 looks like a big cluster of people marching, in my opinion. I know the tactics behind it can be pretty intense, but it has to look intense, not just be there, hidden underneath 20 norns in heavy armor. You missed the point.
Arenanet and GW2 has already missed the opportunity to ESPORT their game like Blizzard did with SC2, i.e. brute-force market and creating tournaments to make an esport out of it. That is not sustainable nor a suitable option for Arenanet – a much smaller company. GW2 can only become an esport by having first of all, a burgeoning competitive scene. To have a competitive scene, it needs a fun gametype with less pressure on people to join in and have a try – yet have a skill curve that isn’t one dimensional. Both of these criteria eliminate sPvP from the immediate possibility of an sPvP esport scene. GvG is perhaps the best candidate since most player already have had a taste from WvW. It can be 10v10 or 20v20 or 15v15 – it only matters which is more fun and involves enough strategy as well as skill for spectators to care about. Don’t worry about the 40 computers and 40 plane tickets – we aren’t even close to that stage yet! They need this game to be enjoyable to play and watch and become big on twitch.tv.
Yes, I’m worried about the 40 people on one stage, because it’s not doable. You need a giant stage for that one. To have funds for such a big place, to host a big crowd, you need to make the game popular. And to make the game popular, you need to attract a huge majority of gamers out there – and those ones are the ones that want to see epic battles between a few select people, not whole guilds. You lose track of individuals in a crowd of 20 people.
Why GvG isn’t what will make the game more popular? Because you don’t see the skill behind an individual, you see the strategies behind a group. This is good, but it shouldn’t be the main attraction. Just think about the MOBA games, what makes them so enjoyable to watch? Is it because the game is awesome? Not only that. Is it because the team is awesome? Not only that either. It’s because these teams are small enough to help individuals among them stand out and make shiny, bloodthirsty plays. Because that’s what matters, an individual’s playmaking. Most people out there don’t give a flying kitten about tactics; if arenanet and the playerbase want to insist on being romantic like that, you guys can be my guests, but the e-sports scene is all about killing, is about adrenaline, is about epic plays. This isn’t something a 40-man fight can offer, this is something a battle between a few, select, incredible individuals can offer – that’s why Sacrx and many people from the beginning of the game, including me, are asking for Deathmatch Arenas and King of the Hill official game modes, and those ones should be the main theme of Guild Wars 2, not a dominion game type that half the time is spent on capping and not actuall fighting.
All we asking for, is a giant arena so we can kill each other all day long. I don’t even care if the arena is well-made, if it’s made of pixels or not. I swear, I’m gonna be pulling all-nighters almost every day if that happens. It’s a simple concept. But no, Arenanet have this “vision” of a dominion, artistic game, and the rest of the people are asking for GvG, when the point of online gaming itself, is fighting and having fun through it, nothing more, nothing less.
Your last phrase gives away the reasoning behind your previous statements; you’re a casual player and play for fun. Well, just because YOU play for fun, that doesn’t mean that we all should play for fun. And if, SOMEHOW (miracles, tons of good decisions by anet, etc) gw2 makes it into a successful MMO e-sport, this doesn’t mean that you HAVE to stop playing for fun. You can still do your thing, no one will get in your way. But, there are people like me, who can’t wait to test their skills, see how good they are, without grinding ranks, without capping points, just fighting, fighting, fighting.
As someone that HAS done the E-Sports scene and won cash prizes, you really can have fun in the process. If you’re not having fun, quit. Do not waste your time. Do not waste your sponsor’s time. Do not waste the time of your opponent.
I’ve fought so many people who thought that Street Fighter was a numbers game. It was all about the frames, all about the damage per second, all about the S rank characters. They were predictable. They were boring. They never made it anywhere in life.
Then I fought some people that shared a true passion for the game and became good BECAUSE they had fun playing it. They were very unique, very unpredictable and kitten hard to read. They adapted, they knew the game inside and out and they loved every second of it.
It wasn’t a chore to anyone that made it to the finals. It was our love. The minute you tell people that playing for fun is the wrong way, you lose any grounds you have in a true E-Sport scene.
Maybe you should stop looking for the fastest way to win and start remembering how to play the game? You’ll make it to my level that way. I guarantee it.
Maybe it was my poor English that killed my post and made you misunderstand a couple of stuff – I’m sorry for that.
Let me rephrase that, “there are people like me, who can’t wait to test their skills, see how good they are, without grinding ranks, without capping points, just fighting, fighting, fighting and that’s fun for them, because that’s where the adrenaline is”. I never said “I play to win/I don’t play for fun”. Hell, if it wasn’t fun, I wouldn’t be playing.
Off topic note: if you’re that good, I’d love to do some 1v1s against you. Not to win, but to practice and to have fun. I’m always looking for some good fights.
No, and I hope they stop trying.
A good MMO can never become an eSport. Why? Look at what games rank the top of the eSports list: fighters, FPSs, and MOBAs. Now look at what they all have in common: very tight balancing as a result of linear combat systems.
A good MMO needs diversity and depth, which combined with the need for constant updates, results in a complex combat system which is basically impossible to balance like how you would need to balance an eSport.
eSports in my opinion trades off playing just for the sake of fun and a game being interesting to it being competitive. Personally, I don’t like that.
This is wrong at all levels imaginable.
Just because an MMO hasn’t been an e-sport yet, that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Specifically, Guild Wars 2, would have the biggest chances of making it, if Arenanet could just stop making inconsistent decisions and stop ignoring the professional PvP playerbase.
I’m not an FPS player as I hate those games, but as a MOBA player, I can tell you that referring to those games as linear, is the biggest mistake you can make to make yourself look clueless. There are tons of diversity and depth into gameplay and strategies in MOBA games, which is why, as a previous guy said a while ago, playing the game for the 1000th time, is more rewarding than playing it for the 1st time. And that’s how GW2 pvp should be like.
And a word of note to everyone in this thread; we all know that at its current state, gw2 has 1% chance to become an e-sport. Pro teams quitting, boo hoo, come back and stuff. I’m assuming, that since we’re here discussing about the game, we all share the same love for it. Instead of being negative, next to “why gw2 won’t make it as an e-sport right now”, which frankly, has been said a thousand times and I’m getting bored of reading the same stuff over and over again for months now, maybe we should suggest some solutions to how it could be and what WE, the playerbase want. (I suggested the Deathmatch Arenas in a previous comment above, won’t repeat myself in this comment)
Honestly, GvG has a huge advantage over PvP for GW2.
1. It is quite unique in the MMO scene
2. It is unique in the streaming scene

I’m a big fan of e-spors. I believe e-sports is the future to gaming. I also believe that many people agree with me on that one.
But, in my humble opinion, the only way for GW2 to go e-sports, is to establish a different kind of PvP system. Something with more action, that I won’t have to be watching a tiny asura with a million spirits around him, capping slowly a point.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike Dominion games – in fact, I’m a WvW player all the way. I dislike small-scale Dominion games though. The magnicifent thing about WvW is about how large it is and how much it gives you the “I’M GOING TO WAR” feeling. PvP is kinda meh at this matter.
The only, simple enough, action-packed, fast-paced, viewer-friendly setup that comes to mind, is establishing Deathmatch Arenas. Given how much time a fight, even a 1v1, can last between good fighters in GW2, I imagine that 1v1s, 3v3s and 5v5s in that system will become instantly really popular, especially if the tournament format for each match is best-out-of-3-games, or something.
And that’s how I begin to like Scarlet a lot more. This is actually really rational and epic at the same time.
I hope Krait comes back. Krait is most entertaining.
Krait as playable race confirmed….
because Danicia likes them. :PZaxares also wants Krait as playable race.
And Tengu. And Skritt.
Skritt mesmers would cause me to QQ all day.
I have never been so afraid before.
Well most humans are afraid of changes and new things i do not see why the online gaming community should be free from this.
Over all it seems like its going to be a big update lots of old content that ppl liked is coming back and there are new things to work for.Side note am i reading it right where they are going to add in a new healing skill for every class?
Yes. You already have a new healing ability, the anti toxin ability, which was introduced a patch or two ago. They are adding yet another one. I don’t care about healing abilities. I could use any one of them in my builds and be fine. I want some game changing utilities or weapon abilities. This is what I thought of when Colin J. initially said that they will be adding new abilities to the game. Not slowly introduce two worthless healing abilities. Have to wait that much longer now.
You’d be surprised as to how different the new heal skills are and how many more playstyles introduce for each class. It’s amazing like no other balance update they’ve ever done before. For a guy like me, that plays mainly WvW, the new heals and the balance update are something I can’t wait to play with.
Also, they have announced that new utilities and new elites will be coming in the following balance updates after this one. So you can just have patience and wait.
I also want to agree with the OP, the upcoming patch has got me hyped, unlike the previous patches. Well done indeed.
I hope I’m not the only one that likes the changes.
PvE people inside PvP! Oh my god, this is gonna be hilariously fun! Free wins everywhere!
Except when they happen to be on your team…
The changes sound fine but tying pve-pvp seems like a step in the wrong direction.
Leave looks inside spvp spvp specific and only available through playing actual spvp…
You can carry since you’re gonna be more experienced. It’s gonna be awesome!
On a serious note though, I really, REALLY like the whole direction this is going. They give prestige to PvP players in WvW through limited-time, hard-earned finishers, they add the option of leveling up your alts through PvP, they give you gold for carrying games and they’re also adding new skills to the game – you can’t ask for anything more.
Maybe indeed they shouldn’t allow legendaries into PvP. I don’t think it’s practical to have extra special effects in an already big battle. It happens in WvW, but WvW is all about aimed AoE on the backlines, while PvP needs more focus on individuals.
I hope I’m not the only one that likes the changes.
PvE people inside PvP! Oh my god, this is gonna be hilariously fun! Free wins everywhere!
All I want to ask is if all 3 flame-themed armor sets are going to be reworked, and when the change is coming. I imagine it’s going live on December the 10th?
I’d love some more info besides “it’s really nice” but I imagine that ain’t gonna happen
These SFR guys.
I like them.

When I go through these forums, I hope the devs get psychological counseling. Whatever they do, it’s never right. Let’s group hug them, for once, because there are way more things that work fantastically in this game than there are quirks.
Yes, totally off topic – or is it?
Oh man, we need more people like you in the forums!
Complains about Edge of the Mists! Man, some people are never, ever happy!
Best thing about this thread is that not only it adresses the most major issues in WvW, but it does so in a positive way.
Good job on not whinning about silly stuff like many people in here. You have my respect, OP.
Agreed with what you said, and of course, keep the positive momentum! It should be our driving force as a community and not crying!
Not the best place to do a poll like that, people on the forums tend to whine about everything.
If you really want an objective post, go into WvW itself, ask around during many times of day and night and get statistics from there, not from the forums where you can even find people that play the game 1 hour per 2 days, complaining that they can’t keep up with 2000+ rank players.
My 2 cents though, are that Season 1 was awesome. Beautiful, competitive, intense and it can even get more and more awesome. If there’s one thing that I have high expectations of, in this game, it’s WvW.
I think it’s pretty unfair to not reset wxp ranks to about 100.. I mean there were so many arguments when you reseted fractal lvls back to 30 that you would do the same with wxp… you don’t I’m really dissapointed… how can I Keep up with palyers that now have a accwide high rank with more skills… ? You should let everyone start on even footage every season and reset the ranks… otherwise it’s just unfair because ppl have an Advantage starting in the season over ppl that just Play the Content. You took hours and hours of work I could have invested in wxp when you released the fractal update. you took away my work.. I want now to kindly request that you could set me on equal footage to the hardcore wvw Players… I mean whats the Problem they had fun playing wvw they didn’t do it for some number, did they?
I’m really against this. If this happens, it could be the worst decision ever made, after a line of wonderful decisions by Anet, and I’m pretty sure many people would take a break or even quit the game.
You didn’t even sit down to count how many ranks you need to keep guard leech/applied fortitude, which are like, essential. Let me spoil that for you, you need to be rank 230. It’s easy, don’t worry. Instead, you just said “100”, because it sounds good and that’s what suits you. Gaming companies don’t think this way and they shouldn’t think this way.
You can’t keep up with hardcore WvW players and you shouldn’t keep up, if you don’t go as hardcore as them. That simple. Fractal level resetted because it simply is not the same thing as WvW ranks. The only advantage these players got over you is the luxury of wielding more siege machines on master level, nothing more.
Even worse, if ranks resetted each season, it would pretty much ruin the whole progress system they have established. Please refrain from suggesting what suits you, and think what suits the community as a whole.
It’s funny how you think it’s fair to take away my hard work but it would be unfair if they touch yours….
… it’s no diffrent Thing we both invested time me to get Karma when completing lower Levels and have Access to high lvl fractals.. you to gain Access to Special skills ect… The only luxury I got was to Play scale 80 fractals this is way minor than having the luxury of additional skills.. in my opignon this is gamebreaking issue… I mean you seem to be one of those who think it’s good when I loose my Progression on what I played but why shoulnd’t you loose your Progression for what you played? why should I care about what you invested, since it’s just not fair as a fact to not be on equal footage with a Player who have guardstacks!
I just Suggestion something that should be taken into consideration since they did the equal Thing on an other sector of the game with same arguments you could do it here…
You use the word “gamebreaking” in such a light mannered way, that I really doubt that you even know what it means.
Fractals resetted because of the total overhaul the developers did. They also resetted because of the leaderboards. Fractals, are also just a small part of PvE.
What you’re talking about, is WvW itself, completely different things.
You didn’t mention only one reset, you mentioned multiple ones, which you compare with the Fractal one that happened just because of an overhaul. You compare two completely different things and you expect “justice” just because you prefered to do fractals instead of WvW. Isn’t that unfair for a person like me who prefered to do a lot more WvW over fractals?
If WvW goes under a massive overhaul, maps change completely, objectives change completely and even abilities change completely, yes, I will accept a soft reset.
And as a matter of fact, you even mentioned you don’t even have guard stacks. You don’t sound as the most experienced player in WvW to me, you sound more like a hardcore PvE player, since you did so much fracts and all.
Oh man, Oni’s posts never get old. This guy needs some serious, lovely hugs.
On a more serious note, best of luck and have tons of fun everyone, from a Piken Square member! I’ve been waiting for this week for ages! May your lootbags be filled with many tier 6 mats! (I hope for mine too!)
Server: Piken Square
League: Gold
Enjoyed Season 1: Yes.
Should we have a Season 2: Yes.
Everyone saying about “unbalanced matches” 1) has never faced Vizunah Square 2) Has no idea that games are not supposed to be balanced, some win, some lose, that’s the fun part 3) Need to relax and stop complaining.
Some servers are big, some are small. Some have good coverage, some not. Some are the best, some are the worst. That’s how things are. Players and commanders in each server roam differently, zerg differently and think differently. Each server and each commander are developing their own unique style. Season 1 was awesome exactly because of that. OF COURSE, there should be a Season 2, so the WvW community can keep expanding and offering everyone amazing moments.
I can’t even begin to think why someone would not want a Season 2. It’s selfish, at its very very core. You’re asking for the best part of the game to die just because your server did poorly. Even if you didn’t like Season 1, there’s room of improvement (undeniably) so there should, again, be a Season 2.
Devon Carver, take note…
Legendary Gear and winning Arah is not the end game.
This is the real “living story”, the rise and fall of servers and the people who defend it.
World vs World is GW2’s end game.
I just want to say that this is possibly the best comment ever posted on these forums.
Not only Devon Carver should take notes. The whole gw2 community should.
I feel this is wrong because of the stacked servers ability to dominate and gain wxp at a greater rate than those under-populated.
Note that some players have accumulated over 2000 levels (probably on some blob heavy karma training server) while others who play similar hours on undermanned servers gain far less.
Is this fair? ANET needs to address this disparity or players will just migrate to the servers who can dominate their tier……
Want to talk about power creep?
Well when you account bound WXP you exacerbate the problem and power differences become far greater……..
Just pointing out some issues that no one seemed to notice…….and you wonder why server stacking occurs and game population starts to dwindle?
I hope you’re trolling, (and if you do, that was just bad) because this statement here shows that you have little to no idea about wvw.
What, in Balthazar’s flames, account bound wvw exp has to do with power creep and server stacking? Spoiler alert: nothing. It just gives the option for people to play more than one class in WvW, try many new things easier and have more fun in many different ways. Hell, it means roamers may start zerging whenever they feel like, and it means more zergers can start roaming, whenever they feel like.
You’re probably from an under-performing WvW server and you’re just trying to find reasons to cry. Please, keep unreasonable and negative perspectives to yourself, since this is something the community has been dying asking and it’s one of the best decisions Anet has made, along with the Edge of the Mists map and the WvW abilities.
WvW is a totally different place since I started, because Anet is doing a really good job polishing it and offering many new and unique experiences to the WvW playerbase. In my opinion, no one has any reason to cry or to disapprove this.
This. Unfortunately, Arenanet is just following what the community asks for. It’s not the company’s problem, trying to please the customers, the problem is that the customers are… well, don’t get me started.
The real problem is a minor section of the community cried and now another section of the community is starting to find out about it but only after Anet sided with the prior.
I hope you’re right about that, I hope that it’s not the majority that are brain afk. But you know what they say, never underestimate human stupidity.
its not selfish expecting that ganathar, it was anets fault they decided to release the skins they did, BUT, the crusade worked, the skin is gone and they will probably never release another t3 skin. However, people did spend the money, anet should not be taking the skin for the people that did get it within the short time it was up.
this, my wife is actually quite kitten ed because she loves the look of this gear she bought it as soon as soon as she saw it. now that they are talking about taking away she is upset.
maybe those that bought the skin should go on a crusade like the brats did to get this removed to give those that BOUGHT a skin a voice.
yeah i think most are prolly about ready to tell anet to play the Skin-Flute!
ANet isn’t completely at fault in this. Don’t forget this would never have happened if certain members of the community hadn’t had a bunch of cows, kittens, puppies, and a conniption for good measure.
This. Unfortunately, Arenanet is just following what the community asks for. It’s not the company’s problem, trying to please the customers, the problem is that the customers are… well, don’t get me started.
I had tier 3 human cultural on my human elementalist, female. As soon as I saw the gem armor, I was really happy. I thought hey, my favourite armor in the game, now available to EVERYONE, with some cool-looking effects on it, too! Instead of being a kitten about “how exclusive and human-only this armor should be”, I said “thank you arenanet for making my elementalist look even more awesome, have my ten bucks”.
I am not as selfish as the majority of the community here. I prefer saying thank you, instead of “this skin is wrong”. In fact, if more t3 cultural armors would be remade, with extra animations (icy ones for the norn t3 heavy, electricity for asuras, etc), it would be freaking awesome. I don’t care if I have to pay gems or gold for it. I don’t care about who wears what. They’re skins. SKINS. Come on. You’re not gonna be paying attention to the skin while killing people in WvW or PvP, you just want the skin to look cool in Lion’s Arch!
But no, just because this community is selfish as hell, Arenanet are following what pleases their customers. And unfortunately, for them it’s the right decision. But I just want to add, that I just officially dislike this community a lot.
I really hope the new Flamekissed armor is awesome, because if it ain’t, I want my previous armor back.
Lol it’s like you people just can’t do basic math and comprehend the fact that it cost 1/3 the price of T3 armor.
Go through every post here and tally up the posts that complain about “exclusivity” and the ones pointing out how its the same armor for a fraction for the cost and I bet you you won’t find more folks complaining that other races can have the humans’ armor and a lot more people complaining about how their armor just droped in value by a whole lot because anet thought it should only be worth 60g after all.
Telling people they just have to deal with the items they earned dropping in value because you want something for cheap is also pretty kitten selfish and really eroding the sympathy I have for people who are having to deal with losing an armor they like.
This is a thread about the exclusivity of T3 and I’m pointing out how selfish the whole thing is. If I can’t do basic math, then you basically can’t understand English.
Besides, gem prices can go up, gem prices can go down. If more awesome stuff like this was released, 800 gems would cost more than 120g. But you see, this community is easy to kitten off, because everyone is lazy and expects their “hard-earned money” (just LOL) to just pop out of nowhere.
I’ll say it again, I want my old armor back, unless the new Flamekissed armor is something extremely unique, awesome and “exclusive”, since some people like this word.
Also, animations and special effects on the T3 armor is a good idea. Why not just update the old vanilla ones?
Sorry but it’s not selfish to expect your race to not be the only one that doesn’t have a unique t3 light cultural armor.
So if all T3 armors were to be gem-store items with special effects (or even legendary armors that will take you 6 months to get them. I don’t care.) and they could be worn by anyone, you’d be OK with it? I bet most people here wouldn’t be ok with it, out of selfishness. That’s what I’m saying.

As a player that enjoys small roaming parties in WvW more than anything else and likes having the option to play more than one class, I want to say thank you too.
I came here to laugh at the people taunting my beloved piken square about our weekend performance >.> Good job everyone, thanks for the lootbags guys! Fun roaming against you too, been trying a burst d/d ele build. I remember a ranger with a sylvari dog that didn’t know what hit him after he wasted all his dodges.
While the elementalist changes in this patch all look great, I am much more concerned about the change to earth staff in the last patch.
The removal of a field that can apply cripple has severely kitten the spec, and in its place we have a 3 second wall with practically no utility in PvE.
The primary source of damage for a condition ele is eruption, and without the ability to slow mobs, it becomes much more difficult to manage.
So where this patch would have made earth-staff even more fun to run, the lack of a reliable cripple is going to leave the spec….crippled.
Condition Ele doesn’t work in the first place anyway. The Earth #4 staff is an amazing skill for WvW, essentially an extra line of warding. It’s a huge buff and you should be grateful for it. And yeah, I already got that you’re not doing WvW.
On a general note about eles; I really DO hope Arenanet doesn’t think that we won’t go 30 in arcana anymore; Evasive Arcana is the best trait elementalists have and having a cooldown of 10 on your elements is crucial for keeping up your tempo during the battle. Maybe we’ll shift towards more offensive builds now though but that doesn’t mean that 30 in Arcana is still not a staple.
I just want to be able to test my WvW builds against people I know what they’re playing, so I take notes of the matchups and improve my playstyle based on facts. This means I want a place to face off against people from my own server. I hope we can get an arena or something were we can just go in and 1v1, 3v3, 5v5, 10v10 or 15v15 against our friends, for fun. It would be a nice addition. Am I asking for too much?
Solid roaming. At some points, you could have flashed a lot more aggressively for extra damage if you had mist form instead of the arcane projectile, some combos could have landed better and developed better, but generally it’s a really nice video.
Would love it if you posted your entire gear! Just for the extra information.
You have my thumbs up
I don’t think that necros need any more defense, in any form.
Poor necros, they really need a water field on weapon swap to combo with their Staff #4 blast finisher and heal forever
Dude, no.
Overflow here, seems like Anet failed on this one. I refuse to believe that everyone was being an idiot at our first time.
Hey, I had opened the same thread a while ago, on the same subject. Glad to see that more people want those pointy hats!
Hats and Cloaks! Come on Anet, you can do it!
I had no idea! I only looked up for the PAX pvp tourney matches, turns out I should pay attention to the interviews too. Thanks for sharing indeed, awesome news!
I can bet my ele’s daggers that I’m neither the first nor the last one to ask for this, but, since we’re getting full Ascended gear, we gotta look kinda kitten! Backpiece cloaks for halloween would be too mainstream you think?
I just want to add my 2 cents and reflect everyone’s opinions; we want account-bound WvW rank. WvW experience reflects how much me, as a player, has done WvW, not how much my character has progressed. WvW is NOT PvE and we DON’T want it to be PvE, no matter how much gear grind or rank grind you add.
I have 8 alts. 5 of them are at lvl 80, 3 of them are being leveled through WvW. Not only I’m annoyed that I have to tolerate this alt-hostile system with those ascended trinkets/weapons/armor (soon to be released for sure), I can’t even reflect on my alts how much WvW I’ve done in truth. I can’t build the WvW skills on each one separately based on my own experiences because I have to grind ranks for some reason.
I really hope Arena.net wakes up someday and sees that the whole community is asking for it and a company needs to give the community what they want, most of the times.
And don’t mind the pve trolls, they will never understand the beauty of pvp and wvw. Cowards!
Oh look another thread created by those who know little of the class they complain about. Thief would never be able to secure kills if they weren’t able to do this or one one of their other stomp types. Also stopping a stealth stomp is not complicated. You can even manually aim your interrupt skills if you are experienced enough to know where they are standing while stomping you. Did they blind you first? Well throw an auto attack THEN your interrupt.
If you think you can win vs a skilled thief while in down state you are silly, even if you are a ranger. If you are trying to delay the thief so your friend can come save you, then manually aim your interrupt. Some downed state skills don’t even need to see the target, like ranger aoe interrupt, or engineer bomb blast. Also, it’s your friends job to stop the stomp. If the ally is too inexperienced to know when a stealth stomp is happening, sorry, tough luck. If the ally IS experienced, then they can easily interrupt and stop the thief, then res you.
Stealth stomping isn’t broken. Elixir S stomping isn’t even broken, and neither is stability stomping, shadow step stomp, distortion stomp, blind field stomp, they all have a counter. (interrupts, and boon strips) Sometimes you must interrupt the beginning of the stomp rather than the end of it, but there is almost ALWAYS a window of opportunity to interrupt on these types.
The one and only stomp mechanic you should be complaining about is Mist Form stomp, as it literally has no counter and is unstoppable.
TLDR? Stealth stomp isn’t the issue. Either you or your allies are inexperienced. Maybe instead of complaining about how someone is spiking you, you should be analyzing why you got downed in the first place and adjust your playstyle.
I main engi now, but have played almost every type of build imaginable on all classes. I used to main thief as well, but it’s more or less retired due to boredom. I have no issues with people stealth stomping.
I was about to type these
Fully agree to both on how the problem is stated and on how to solve it.
The key phrase is “the concept of waging war”. Anet really needs to grasp this feeling more, random matchups are not even flavorful, besides all the problems you mentioned.
Ok so… first of all, not a hardcore pvp player, I’m mostly into WvW. I like doing pvp to keep my small-scale fighting skills sharp, or just to kill time when WvW is not the best place to visit. Playing the game since january, started off with warrior, soon realised they’re utterly useless in pvp and ended up loving Necro and Ele. I just want to say something that it’s been bugging me;
The community appears to have no clue on which roles does each class fills. You can see guardians roaming, thieves protecting close points, players accusing each other of “omg no skill necro go home” and other gems like that. Since gw2 pvp is headed to a competitive direction, shouldn’t the matchmaking procedure during the lobby be a little more well-thought? Why isn’t there a character-select screen, or something, during the lobby, before the game, so that players can discuss which roles each one will fill?
I mostly had in mind those good ol’ Final Fantasy black mages, but for some reason, didn’t really think of the Asura idea. Awesome indeed!
Anet please! No more masks!
I really hope I’m not the only one wondering. Why do light armor headpieces are mostly weird masks and forehead symbols, instead of awesome, pointy-hats? Too cliche?
Imho, we really need some!
Kinda sad matchup for us AG. Will try to have as much fun as possible with it. Cheers all.
