I think beta and real servers went down
More like:
“After the reception of ‘Dragonhunter’, perhaps we should re-think the name ‘Death Blossom’…”
We’ll have to see how often it makes sense to take 3 core trait lines over 2 + elite. If the answer is ‘never’, I agree it is a bit disturbing, although I don’t think this is really a pay-to-win issue.
GW1 actually had a bigger expansion issue with the EOTN PVE skills, which are laughably over-powered.
Clearly it’s going to be the Groundskeeper. It will utilize it’s greatsword and other blades to keep the unruly plants of the maguuma trimmed and under control.
Weed Whacker.
Finding multiple portals is irrelevant; there is no fixed limit on the number of portals that can be allocated. The more people loot, the more portals are handed out, no matter what. Worrying about people who got multiple portals is based on a misunderstanding of what is going on – they are not assigning a number of portals, they are setting a drop rate.
Took me forever to realize you could move sideways while in the air…
I hate JPs, but I actually love that they’re in the game.
I’m betting on dagger offhand.
Bushwhacker.
Connotations of ambusher and plant pummeling both work.
Needs more Buddhism in this thread. “Desire leads to suffering.”
Warrior is more forgiving of mistakes, but Guardians can be more indestructible.
The only new race that seems remotely possible to me is the Tengu, and that is only because I think they were considered before launch as a possible playable race. But at this point, even they seem very unlikely. Way too much effort just to get them up to speed, and the only return on that effort would come from people who really wanted a bird character. Not going to happen.
I think it’s a good system from ArenaNet’s PoV – they are assured of getting people who are actively playing. Beats the newsletter thing.
With all trait lines unlocked you will have 6, 5 core plus chrono. You can use any 3 at a time, and swap them out of combat.
It is usually until the next patch, i.e. usually 2 weeks.

I don’t think it really matters if some charactershave extra unlocks, compared to the issue of characters losing unlocks.
Suppose you have a post-NPE character who gained a lot of traits by jumping around the world and doing the designated events. You want to lose all those just because they were not unlocked with Hero points?

Just award 5 Hero points for every trait and skill you currently have, no matter how acquired.
Another thought: If we lose all progress except skill challenges, then every skill scroll you ever used was for nothing.

What if I have a post NPE character where I hit 80 without doing any skill challenges, but unlocked every trait with gold? (An extreme, but possible, example.)
Would I seriously have only 300 hero points to spend? All that gold wasted?
IThen flip that kitten, because they can’t grandfather anyone. The new system is a complete redesign from the ground up. No part of the original/current system will remain in the new system. There is nothing to be grandfathered into.
Nah, they could do several things. 1 Any character of a high enough level to have the GM traits unlocked could get them all. 2 Give you hero points pased on the traits you do have, and let people re-buy traits. 3 Use your total XP to guesstimate a number of Hero points…
Actually, it is a bit disturbing that there are 11 lines there, even if one is the elite spec. Consider that it is one thing to pick 3 out of 5 (or 6) trait lines, but 3 out of 11 is another matter. And ‘Signets’ as a line? Does that mean no signets at all in other lines?
That is not what you’re thinking about. That screen is where you spend hero points to unlock skills/traits.
Yeah I went back to re-read that. Some of the tracks are just for skills. (The GUI should distinguish them better.)

Interestingly, without HoT you will have 10 variations of possible trait lines (5 choose 3), but you will have 20 with HoT (6 choose 3). Twice as many!
Separating stats from traits will increase diversity right there. If more traits are made more viable that will also help.
Anyway, it is fun to shuffle the deck from time to time.
It isn’t obvious that build diversity will be reduced in practice, even if the possible number of mathematical combinations is reduced.
It is similar to the GW1 vs GW2 problem – GW1 had more possible builds in theory, but in practice most were trash.
Much hinges on having more viable traits for each slot.
My interpretation is similar to Roseblood. I assume you’ll get Hero Points for leveling and for Hero Challanges, possibly more points per level than per single Hero Challange.
Currently there is no connection between skill challenges and traits, so you could have all the traits unlocked without having done any of them. But I’d be very unhappy if my characters lost a huge chunk of trait unlocks.
Even if characters get ‘grandfathered’, it isn’t that obvious how they would do that since many traits will be re-worked or combined.
I’m hoping they do it by trait line – if you currently have the line unlocked it will remain unlocked.
To the OP’s question, the answer appears to be NO – you choose one and only one Adept trait out of 3, you cannot pick an Adept trait for the Master slot.
There is more to this than level. An old 80 character would have all but maybe some of the XIII traits unlocked. A recent 80 character might have any random number of traits unlocked. Going forward, some of those traits may not even exist.
I’m very curious how characters will get moved into the new system.
Also, is ‘unlocked’ the same as ‘acquired’? (It isn’t the same thing in the Mastery system.)
What will the impact of the new system be in each of these two cases:
1] An existing level 80 who has all current traits unlocked?
2] An existing level 80 who has some current traits unlocked?

The scenery of the new maps certainly looks nice.
The 300 point difference in defence between heavy and light armor is minor. For reference, shuffling traits can easily add/subtract that many points of toughness (toughness is the same as armor).
Seems to be fixed for me. FPS is back to where it was, and I’m not seeing memory crashes.
I’m sure there are many thousands of GW1 players who play GW2. Just that a smaller number of them have GWAMM and are affected by this.
Directly affected, perhaps. But it sets a terrible precedent on exploits, and de-values the entire HoM concept. Plus, I think fixing it is straightforward – maybe not ‘easy’, but do-able.
Hard to say how ‘big’ it is. Since it seems to involve AMD cards, it might just be a missing library.
It is definitely leaking memory – I can avoid a crash if I exit and re-start fairly often.
they were saying on a forum, i think it was Massively, that it was fixed already
Only that you can’t get the title – that was fixed very quickly. But AFAIK, people who got it (and the other achievements) still have it.
My FPS dropped from from around 45 to 25, and has not gone back up yet. Oddly, reducing graphics settings does not help it much (even all the way from High everything to Low everything.)
CPU usage is way up. (The CoherentUI process does not seem to be the culprit, but hard to be sure.)
Memory usage seems to be up, but I won’t swear I remember the old numbers well enough to be certain.
Also, I had my first crash on Teq in months and months.
…It only takes a bit more time…
I wonder. I notice that early armors tended to have more dye channels (at least if they were gem store armors.) I’d be interested to know how much work is really involved.
Two shields would look awesome, though. Maybe you could have a rolling attack, like a karka.
Twice as funny with an asura…
I have only one complaint about outfits – I want to mix armor head pieces with outfit bodies and vis-versa. (This should be possible, since we know outfits have separate head pieces.)
Yep, failed for me last night and just now. Also, the bug reporting system shows mostly ((XXXXX)) placeholders for bug categories, so hard to file a ticket.
It did not give all the points and titles, it gave 39 points and the gwomm title only. But that seems like more evidence to me that they forgot to unlink it from some specific persons account.
Ah, someone had said it gave everything, but fair enough. And I think the end of the tutorial is where you get the mail with the HoM portal stone, so that is likely where the code checks the link.
Many items that were ‘Account bound on acquire’ are now ‘Account bound’; this is apparently enough to keep them from stacking.
I just can’t wrap my head around how something in the code does something like that. It should access information from the linked account and then that is it, how is it linked in any way shape or form to the tutorial area.
Easy to imagine. For testing, they probably wanted every tester to see the same stuff, so they linked to a fake account or short-circuited the linking process, then forgot to set it back before rolling the build to production. Note that it gave ALL the points and titles, not just some random number. I’m sure the HoM crash is connected… it probably tries to use the same fake account and dies.
Roll all HOM points back, re-apply from GW1 links.
So you think everyone who is new to the game who created new characters, BL Key farmers and players who just wanted to make a new character should all be banned? …
That’s why I said ‘appropriate’ bans. I’m (fairly) sure they can tell who jumped in just to exploit the bug.
Sadly its not obvious. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to start new characters. Black lion key farmers delete and create characters several times per day.
Creating a new character is routine, but consider the bug: they probably had a hard-coded ‘link’ to a fake GW1 account for testing purposes, and forgot to take it out of the build. So, in theory, all they need to do is rollback any points awarded due to that link.

4chan was laughing it up about this bug last night, so I certainly hope it gets rolled back and appropriate bans handed out…

There is some massive confusion here, but consider that ArenaNet makes money when, and only when, people give them real money (either for gems or anything else.) Very simple.
Anything that happens to (gems/gold/whatever) after that is irrelevant.
Even better, once you have the skin, you can have all your Guardians and Warriors running around blindfolded.
It’s actually not yet clear what, exactly, you will be locked out of if you don’t buy the expansion.
