I completely agree on the need for a good manual in-game. Also, while I appreciate ANet’s desire to have us not ‘playing the UI’, but I would like to see cast bars for enemies. I also would like the ability to enlarge the boon/condition icons on enemies and myself, as well as the ability to re-locate UI elements. Add I agree that an option to turn particle effects down/off would be nice.

First question is what problem are we trying to solve; i.e. what gameplay are we trying to add with these raids. Difficulty? Larger groups? More guild-oriented content? It is easier to design them if we know the objective(s).

You can’t really say you want raids because you like raiding, because it’s too vague on what ‘raiding’ means. (A GW2 raid would never be like an AoC raid, or even a GW1 DoA group.)

The class mechanic for rangers is pets, not bows.

The balance between ranged and melee is the same across all classes – lower risk and lower damage. Rangers have no special strengths (or weaknesses) in terms of ranged weapons, and rangers using bows are just as ‘viable’ as engineers using rifles.

Problems with rangers are all about pets.

1 : Improved AI throughout all of tyria, enemies should react to aoe, target players more intelligently, attempt to interrupt key skills, kite players, etc.

So easy to write; so impossible to define or program. And what good does better AI do against a zerg? GW1 was instanced, so the number of players was fixed.

Would a jumping puzzle get harder if we charged you 1 gold for every fall? No.

Your palms might sweat more, but that is a different issue.

and if there was 5 gold at the end wouldn’t that make you try harder?

Still doesn’t affect the difficulty.

Death penalties, if you boil it down, are just time sinks. Which is why they are more common in subscription MMOs.

I still would like to know whether this change means that LS 2 will have no massive group events like the Marionette fight, or Escape from LA. I don’t see how that kind of event would ever be re-playable at will.

Is it possible that there might be different versions of episodes (e.g. ‘live’ vs ‘re-playable’ ?)

Things that must be in a template:

  • Weapons
  • Sigils
  • Rune
  • Amulet
  • Skills
  • Traits

Skills and Traits are critical, but the others should only be stored for PvP, and PvE and PvP templates should be separate. (Consider in PvE if I get a better amulet, then load a template – would it swap in my old amulet?)

Edit: I’m assuming templates are intended for PvE as well as PvP, of course.)

For example, let’s take the Marionette release. It’s definitely in the top 5 best releases for Anet.

If Anet were to come up with a similar type of fight for L2, like fighting a champion of Mordremoth, how could this play with journals?

My concern is Anet will sidestep this type of content entirely and move towards smaller scale encounters.

Marionette, Battle for LA – it seems to me the best parts of LS 1 were group events. But there are no group events in the personal story, for obvious reasons, so presumably there will be none in LS 2.

From one perspective, Dusk sounds cheap. At 1150 gold, it would cost you over $200 to buy it outright via gems. But how many hours of your life would you be saving? Even if you value an hour of your time at only minimum wage, it is probably better to buy it.

On the other hand…it’s just pixels.

Having champ trains in the starter areas was just bad – a turn-off and distraction to new players. Good riddance.

Note that nothing was done to Frostgorge or other areas.

I think a lot of the TP “lag” is actually intentional throttling to annoy/confound people’s TP scripts. It’s way too predictable to be just lags or bugs.

Nah, it’s slow even to bring up the gem store. And you know they wouldn’t intentionally do that…

Now, how would it be possible to be optimal in dungeons without being restricted to Berserker/Assassins gear?

By definition, only one solution to a problem can be ‘optimal’, unless the problem is so trivial that all solutions are equally good. If you are asking for the latter, you would be asking for dungeons where every mix of stats was, in effect, irrelevant. Where is the fun in that?

Cost-per-use for the extractor is too high (18 gold?) to justify for almost any rune.

Personally I’d like to see the 25 uses per extractor idea implemented.

I don’t buy the 50 tag limit myth, or the damage threshold myth. (And yes, I know the threshold is in the wiki.) But I’ve come in late to champ kills (no party) and gotten in only a couple of shots and still gotten loot, so if there is a threshold it is very low.

Technical issues aside, I’d be all for adding collision detection (except in cities.)
It would certainly change all zerg content as well as dungeons.

Unfortunately I’m pretty sure the computational requirements make this impossible.

At any rate, the solution is simple. Make the Megaserver optional. If you want to map complete or explore a new area with more people, activate your megaserver. If you are new to the game, or want to help newbies, by all means active your megaserver. If you don’t have the population to do an event you want, jump to the megaserver. But in all other cases, you should just be able to stay in your home server or guest as a default option. In other words, the megaserver should be just like a optional overflow server

If one person from each world chose to ‘stay on their home server’, there would be 16 (or whatever) NA maps instantly. And if the algorithm prioritizes putting people on the same map as their server-mates, we’d be right back where we were. So that can’t work.

The three different weights of armor have 3 different sets of geometry and cannot easily be mixed and matched. (Not just a clipping issue.) This came up in the discussion about outfits and town clothes (which used to be a fourth ‘weight’ of armor.)

For world events it is not much different than the old overflow system, where you may or may not be able to join on an existing party. Granted, I’m on Blackgate, so world events were always crowded.

Having tried this out now, I still think that starting at 30 is no big deal. But the requirements for some of the traits are way out of whack. Clear a max level area to get an adept (VI) trait? That makes no sense – you won’t get that trait until endgame, and you’d earn the money to buy it outright before you were halfway done clearing the area anyway.

Anything you were wearing you can get back by going to a Black Lion Trader Armorsmith (not a normal one.) They are located near the TP in major cities and have a dialog that lets you exchange all your town clothes. That unlocks outfits and skins.

The outfit/town colothes issues were a relatively small price to pay for all the other goodies we got. Most importantly, I didn’t hit a single bug, as far as I could tell.

You get one free application of new gemstore skins (but they are unlocked instantly when you buy them.) After that it cost charges like any other.

So you are no worse off than before.
