I believe this may be more in line with what players were hoping for. Also note, many of the tasks are BELOW the level where you will unlock a trait tier – this is intentional. I believe you will see better results if people can have immediate access to the content and use that to fuel growth, rather than being gated by their level for content they should have access to already.

Notice that most of these tasks are vague and open-ended, designed to compliment a “play as you want” style. Traits are gained in progression without having to force too much checklist style exploration. If a trait is not listed here, it’s because I personally consider it to be at least feasible. Others should comment as necessary.

Suggestions for new trait unlocks:

1-I: Obsidian Sanctum. Complete three jumping puzzles. Any puzzles.

1-II: Inferno’s Needle. Help the Charr fight the flame legion! Complete 10 Flame Legion-themed hearts

1-III: 100% Gendarran Field. Complete five “combat” skill challenges in Kryta

1-V: 100% Blazeridge Steppes. Defeat a Champion creature in Brisban Wildlands

1-VII: Ogre Camp. Locate 10 “camp” POIs

1-VIII: Citadel of Flame Defeat a Champion creature in Fireheart Rise

Problem: Trait unlocks are tedious (line 2)
2-II: Twilight Arbor. Help the Sylvari fight the Nightmare Court! Complete 10 Nightmare Court-themed renown hearts.

2-VI: Lornar’s Pass. Complete five “commune” skill challenges in the Shiverpeak Mountains

2-VII: Hylek Camp. Defeat a Champion creature in Sparkfly Fen

2-X: Personal Story Forging the Pact. Complete one group event in five of the following: Sparkfly, Maelstrom, Timberline, Frostgorge, Iron Marches, Fireheart

2-XI: Crucible of Eternity. Secure Infinity Coil

Problem: Trait unlocks are tedious (line 3)
3-II: Battle for Claw Island. Complete level 28 personal story (racial arc)

3-III: Stonegaze Spire. Complete five “combat” skill challenges in the Maguuma Jungle

3-VI: Victurus the Shattered. Locate 10 “ruins” POIs

3-V: 100% Fields of Ruin. Defeat a Champion creature in the Fields of Ruin

3-VI: Giant Blood Ooze. Help the Norn fight the Sons of Svanir! Complete 10 Sons of Svanir-themed renown hearts.

3-VII: Dredge Camp. Defeat a Champion creature in Bloodtide Coast

3-VIII: Sorrow’s Embrace. Defeat a Champion creature in Timberline Falls

Something like that could work very well.
And in addition to it, if you were not able to do all these things to unlock the traits until you are lvl 80, it shouldn’t matter and you can unlock the remaining traits for free at this point/ they unlock automatically when you hit lvl 80.

Solution:
Step 1: Revert to the old system until you figure out a better one.
Step 2: Overhaul the old system. If you don’t know how to do it this thread provides you with great ideas.

I was thinking in creating an alt to try out the new leveling and reward structure system as soon as the new feature pack will be introduced, but I am reconsidering, because I didn’t know what exactly happened to the trait system with the april feature pack until I read it here. I just thought the new Grandmaster traits have been affected with a change which was okay for me, because they were new… an addition to the existing ones that could be easily obtained.

Why have you put adapt and master traits into such a complicated and tedious system to acquire them?

It is such a non intuitive system.

I don’t like to feel forced to do any particular content that you want me to do, just to get an adept or master trait? (Eg. obsidian sanctum.. I don’t get it why you force us to do it for world map completion to begin with, but now also for a trait…wait…what? Or doing stories or dungeons… why?)

In my opinion once you reached lvl 80 (at least at that point) you should have all your traits FOR FREE, even if you did not hunt for them.

I remember leveling my pve mesmer after launch was quite painful, because especially the mesmer depends on its traits.. it wasn’t fun and enjoayble until a certain level was reached (it got better after lvl 20, and then improved a lot with all new trait points I could spend.. after lvl 40 the experience changed to a way better one like at the start).
I can’t and don’t want to imagine how unpleasant it is to level one now.
Just wow.

You know you have to do something, the system right now is not a good one. By reverting to the old system, you can undo the harm you are doing right now with the new system. And then you can improve or renew that system or make a even better one, but you should stop it for now. You really should.

Oh, just checked if I can sell them to a vendor (NO) or put them into the mystic forge (NO). Aaargh..
As the extractor costs 250gems each I will have to destroy the armor.
That makes me sad! :-(

And I am sure I’ve learnt something: I’ll never buy these kind of armors again or at least will not put any expensive rune into it.

Thanks for your help.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t buy it from any vendor mentioned above, but I can’t tell for 100%. So it might be that several month/ a year ago I could have bought some pieces from temples (which means for karma) although I cannot remember I really did this. ^^

Does it mean these runes are lost forever? (It su.. because runes of the travelers are not cheap. -.-)
Can I do anything useful with that armor or just destroy it?

Hi,

so I know that there are indeed some restrictions that you cannot salvage some armor like if you bought them for karma or whatever… but I cannot figure out what happened to some of my exotic gear..
I want to salvage a few pieces of my exotic armor to use the runes on my new crafted ascended armor, but it doesn’t work. The only different thing (compared to some other parts that I could salvage) is, that they have been transmuted with a skin from the gem store..
Does that change my exotic armor into a non-salvagable armor? If yes, why??? (First you pay for the skin and then you have to pay for the runes again.. doesn’t make much sense for me..)

I didn’t say every mesmer build. But it could have an effect (for every mesmer player) when you are running such a build or you want to.
However..

I think catering to pvp players and punishing pve mesmers at the same time is bad and I don’t like that.

Tengu would be fine, but I wouldn’t mind if we could play Largos (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Largos). THAT would be interesting.

9th profession should be something with heavy armor. Would make sense (3 light, 3 medium, 3 heavy). Derwish could fit. Or any kind of a darker knight (there was a pattern: guardian = light; warrior = neutral; xxx = dark). Or a battle mage. Or whatever. Not creative enough for that right now.

I know I am not getting my ritualist back. ^^

This issue is happening a lot and since a long time.

I am not sure what exactly prevents the devs from changing the core problem, but wouldn’t it be at least possible to improve the ingame notifications?
Not sure what it already states at the point you are notified that progressing your friend’s story will effect your story, but isn’t it possible to insert something like this (in red letters):

“Accepting your friend’s story progress, will change your order to his chosen order.”

Or does the game already tell us that our order will be changed?

For me “accepting my friend’s story progress” does not mean “change my order to his order”…

I don’t like having a hundred different currencies. Karma, Gold, Badges of Honor, Dungeon Tokens, etc. are enough.

What about these from above + one special token which is also used as rewards in each new content, but stays the same? It would also go into our wallet and would have no limit (like karma or gold).
Older currencies should be exchanged for the new one (maybe use double click system to convert like they did it back then as they changed from transmutation stones to charges).
And they should find places in existing content where you will be rewarded with these special tokens as well. So you don’t need to exclusively ‘grind’ new content for the tokens and can have them by doing whatever you want to.

I think I would like that.

I would like to have the possibility to convert currencies into another. That way we can really play whatever and however we want to.
It shouldn’t matter if I do content 1 and get xyz currency for it or do content 2 and get currency zyx as long as I can achieve/ buy everything I want. Each content/ ingame activity costs time and efforts and reward in general should not depend on what exactly you are doing.
Nevertheless I understand why dungeon tokens allow you to spend these particular tokens for these armors.

It doesn’t matter if someone pays me in geodes or candy corn (or whatever) for doing something.. there should just exist some npc that is happily converting whatever I bring to him/ her.

And yeah, I don’t like having too much currencies, but I am not sure if they would be willing to reduce that.. that’s why I am for a currency exchanger.

Well, and maybe for some crafting material as well, I wouldn’t mind if there would be any possibility to get rid off the enormous amount of dragonite and bloodstone.. even if that would be just something like 250 dragonite = 1 consumable tonic..

Again imo only thing that should be changed is FAILURE TIMER. I love to farm the event and I love farming in general I just don’t like the toxicity created when people try to fail. Please A-Net don’t change the original start timer ONLY the failure time (not a demand but a plea). Please! Or how the scaling/drop system works.

That indeed makes much more sense than just increasing the time until the event restarts.

Regarding currencies I would very like to see a system implemented in which you can convert one of a currency into another. That way it really doesn’t matter what and how you are playing, but it encourages to do that instead of having to do a very specific content.

And please give us something useful to do with all the bloodstone dust and dragonite.. it doesn’t make much sense for me that if you have no use for them, you have to throw them away. (Even if it would say 250 of one of these would be just 1 consumable tonic or whatever..lol let us transform into a bloodstone or dragonite.. xD)

Then I came up with quite a nice idea which I described somewhere else… (temple specific armor as a very rare drop from the particular temple, but also achievable by doing these temples again and again for the ‘unlucky’ people..)..

Why I put it on topic here is that this kind of system could work nearly anywhere in the open world. And there is no need to create thousands of new armors (I am sure you can think of other incentives), although new armors are needed which are not from gem shop.

Let us say you are doing a few events/ hearts in a specific area (for example: snowden drifts or a much larger area like the entire shiverpeak mountains) and then you have an achievement (or whatever) called ‘helper of snowden drifts’/ ‘helper of shiverpeak mountains’ and each time you do an event in that area the progress bar fills up. Once it is filled you’ll receive something nice (which is worth the efforts) and then it resets so you’ll start from the beginning. It would be an endless thing. ^^
You could also use that for dailies or monthlies.

Yes, maybe EULA says it, and it is their legal right to do so, it just doesn’t make much sense.

Who says he wanted to ruin something? That’s an assumption.
If he really wanted to spoil their fun and intented to do so, that’s of course not ok.
We just don’t know what happened and for example how many times one of the group asked him to go away. We don’t know if the other members of that group were ok with him staying there or not.
It could have simply been that the one who let him dc (if thats possible?), got pi.. off and did it for his own satisfaction.
We don’t know.

However, just because they are protected by their EULA it doesn’t mean you should do something like this, just because you can..

(Well.. I will not give more energy into that as it is worth.. ^^)

Well, why should he have moved away? The group easily could have ported away if all the other members had felt he would be an uninvited guest. No need to harass a player that wanted to participate in a game with other players. Much less, when they really only wanted to take a screen shot.. it is just a screen shot..

Yes, he could have been kind and just moved away for a moment, but he doesn’t has to.

(Although it is hard to believe something like that happened.. letting a particular player dc..)

As a pve player and mesmer I am very happy that we will get some nice changes.
I am not interested in any pvp or whatever and if they dare to listen to the pvp guys I really hope they will split the function of the scepter for pve and pvp.

That’s why I assume kill speed has something to do with that.

Example:
Mesmer (extremely slow to set up its phantasms to output damage and kill someone ‘fast enough’) = very often no champ bag and if so it is from inferior quality like a white one
Ranger/ ele/ etc. (fast damage output) = exotic bag nearly each time

But there are also a few events where the timer in general doesn’t count properly. That can also be seen when looking at the medal. You do enough damage, you are fast enough, but compared to the damage overall, you just suc..

Example: jungle worm
Most of the time (not profession specific, happens to most of my characters) you got a bronze medal for completing to kill the three champs event directly before the jungle worm arrives (it is very hard to qualify for gold which doesn’t make any sense.. compared to the dragon totem at svanir shaman which you just have to hit once and you got a golden medal ^^)

Well, and of course, what is dependent on your profession choice there, is the issue mentioned above.. these champs give loot bag from none to exotic and this is definitely depending which character I take there.. mesmer mostly a white bag whereas thief etc has a very good chance to get an exotic one ^^ (in average you can get champ bags from 2 out of three champs in such events.. like the champ biests at modniir.. you just do not (fast) enough damage to qualify for the third bag, even if you do some high dps it just is not enough..)

Not a very pleasant experience that it is that much inconsistent and is clearly connected and depending of the profession that you chose to play with.

And of course it has also an effect on how much loot you get in large events. Same issue there. If you are too slow to do (high) damage, you do not qualify for decent loot. Worst if you do not have much aoe options as well. (If you would only look at that point it doesn’t make any sense to choose a profession which needs time to set up/ prepare to kill foes (like mesmer), because all the other professions that are faster than you, kill the foes until you are ready and you get what? Nothing. No bags, no loot.)

No damage = No loot in medium / large events

In my opinion it also has to do with how fast you deal damage. The slower you are, the less/ inferior your loot will be.
That’s why I don’t like to take my mesmer main if I want decent loot. It’s incredibly slow and takes nearly ages to set up to make some dps (mainly at that point in time the foes are already killed), especially when playing with phantasms.

suggestion: make them super-duper-rare drops from the Temple events.

PvE. Traveler. I couldn’t stand it anymore seeing the behinds of my friends’ characters and slow them all down.
Leveling my main, which is a mesmer, with my friend owning a thief main, was not really thaaaat nice experience regarding to that particular point. Either for him or me.

So for me it is way more worth keeping up with other players than maxing out stats I can’t use because the foes are already killed when I am arriving with butterflies and sparkles. (Just a little exaggeration, but sometimes it felt this way. ^^)

Some pve thoughts..

Just keep in mind that leveling ele or mesmer might be not the biggest fun experience after leveling a warrior. Necro should be no problem at all.

As much as I love my mesmer main it was nearly painful to level, but it got better once you have more points to trait. Right now the mesmer has heaps of bugs which aren’t fun either.
Leveling my ele was similar, but better than mesmer.
Compared to them my necro was easy and fun to level.

If you want to farm events and get decent loot, don’t use mesmer. Too slow and too few aoes. ^^ (necro is great for loot, especially with staff; ele with two daggers is also pretty fast to get decent loot)

If you like being purple and splashing around butterflies, take mesmer.

I love mesmer, I should be praising and advertising them, I just can’t at the moment. -.-

Lol.

I am not very proud of it, but here is my story..
Long time ago there was a guy that had a funny name (and his character was also quite “ugly”) and most people made fun of him (via map chat). So I protected him with one of my characters and this particular character and he developed a map chat romance (greeting each other, telling us how lovely we are, etc.. ^^). I think we both (he and me) trolled map chat for quite a while by writing about these things each time we saw each other (over a few month).
Maybe I also trolled him, because he invited me to do some serious stuff together (dungeons, etc.), but I wasn’t interested in that. I just enjoyed our banter and reading map chat reactions. ^^

So.. If you are the guy and reading it right now: I am sorry about that and for trolling you. (Really hope you just enjoyed it as much as myself.)

A few things in PVE are not really mesmer-friendly. Leveling is one of them.
However your mesmer experience will enhance with each level you’ll progress. As said above, mesmers are quite depending on getting their points for traits.

And yes, in my opinion mesmers are underpowered in pve, compared to each other profession. (I play them all ^^)
Especially with their heaps of bugs.

If you think the extremely bugged mesmer already is OP (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Mesmer-Bugs-35-Updated-July-20/first), you don’t want to face them anymore if they are ever going to fix these bugs.

I know we are not talking about pve mesmers here, but just leave them alone in pve. They are not OP in pve, they are buggy and do not well compared to other professions.
Each nerf that is mostly there to address the mesmer’s “OP-ness” in pvp or wvw, negatively affects and harms the pve mesmer.

I am very interested what reaction will come as soon as mesmers work properly and their bugs are fixed. And I am not even talking about buffs. Just normally functioning mesmers without their tremendous list of bugs.
Oh oh.. that screams OP…. (never mind, just kidding, I do want them fixed and this as soon as possible.. for the sake of pve mesmers ;-))

As much as I love my mesmer main, it is so much easier to qualify for loot by choosing another profession.

In my opinion it still has to do with how fast you output your damage to kill someone (= kill speed). The slower you are contributing your damage, the inferior your loot will be.
Worst case = no loot
better = white bags from champions (speaking of the same champion which in comparison to the mesmer grants another profession each time an exotic bag or at minimum a rare)
even better = blue, green, yellow, orange, etc..

If I want to get decent loot I prefer to choose another profession, BUT when I want to play my mesmer, I just do it (knowing my loot results could be better).
My mesmer’s loot improved after I changed to a high dps and phantasm (aoe) build, but still sometimes I get no or just white, blue or green bags from champs.

Yesterday I was participating on killing Quatl and as soon as the battery phase came in, I got a little, naughty thought.. I should just use my temporal curtain to accelerate myself, and close it right behind me..
Of course, I didn’t do that.. I was just thinking..
