Berserker gear is just used as an example because its a very easy comparison. Knights gear would also be an easy comparison because it gives the same offense, while giving much more defense. Don’t get caught up so much on the bersekrer gear and use it as an excuse to avoid answering the self nerfing properties of magic find gear.

I saw Eles tanking 5 or 6 for over 10 minutes. The ele player can be really good player but i don’t think that the others 6 enemies were the worst players ever….

Were their attacks actually hitting? Because it’s impossible for an ele to tank that many players at the same time, except for the span of time their invulnerability skills are up.

Also, in regards to OP,bunker eles are very far from having the best damage.

As far as the real life market manipulations go…
In real life,
we’re not all forced to trade through the same market device like TP
distance is a factor because of shipping fees (in TP, it is not. This distance factor helps create multiple markets)
cartels and monopolies are illegal

So while there is some manipulation in real life, a handful of people can’t control a market nearly as easily thanks to laws.

Except that everybody is able to camp the rich node, so what’s the problem. Do we really want Ori ore to be as expensive and rare as globs of ecto and everything else. How would that improve the game?

Ori is a source of income for people who don’t like farming/dungeons. So it’s a source of income for the poorer people. It also doesn’t make up the majority of weapon/armor price, ectos do. So higher ori prices (but not too high) means money is spread a bit more to those who don’t have as much.

The problem is that normal people won’t go to the problem of bringing fresh characters to the node to camp it, but gold sellers will either using movement hacks or just run each other (they work together since it’s usually a company) and camp it on every fresh character for more money, crashing ori prices as well.

Third party software that allows an advantage over other players was not allowed for guild wwars 1, so they probably have a similar stance as far as punishments go now. So the question is does it provide you an advantage?

Of course they might bot have the same thoughts now and tbe advantage thing could be subjective (ex. Cartography made easy).

. . .

If a player sucks, hes gonna suck regardless what gear he wears, if a player is good, he’s gonna shine even if hes wearing blues.

. . .
tldr: this game isn’t wow, numbers isn’t what defines your player ability, real skill is.

But he’ll shine brighter in optimal gear.

Really, people should stop using skill as an excuse – it’s a separate factor unrelated to to magic find.

Also, both stats and skill define how well you do. If skill is constant then the player with better gear will do better, it’s that simple.
Example-

Player A is super skilled and dodges every attack, and lands all of his. He takes an average of 5 seconds to kill a veteran level enemy using mf gear.
Now Player A is wearing berserker gear, but is still just as skilled. Now it only takes an average of 4 seconds to kill a veteran enemy.
Player A is obviously better in berserker gear than in mf gear because his damage is higher, allowing him to do his job faster, while the rest of his aspects are just as good.

Saying “but if he’s more skilled…” is just avoiding the point of mf gear being weaker. Guess what? The guy in normal armor can be skilled too, it’s not like people who use mf gear are magically more skilled than those with normal gear, which seems to be implied in almost every argument doesn’t impede performance. And even if they are more skilled, switching to normal armor for the dungeon doesn’t result in a sudden drop of said skill.

…if anything, using magic find actually requires more skill during gameplay

It requires more skill to have equal contribution yes, but that doesn’t mean the player will have that skill or be more likely to have it.

Champ Karka won’t move from the Ori node. It will stay but once agro is broken it will return to the node. Stockup on kits before those get nerfed also.

I often see it staying fairly far down the path even with no one aggroing it.

i dont care what they do with aoe as long as they do something. the constant aoe spam in wvw is stupid and takes a lot of fun out of pvp .

Then stop zerging, and look for small groups to travel with. Or look for ways to flank and create a concave, instead of massing up on an easily AoE’d choke point.

To a large degree, it’s a L2P issue. The fact that people STILL think that zerging a choke is a viable play style kind of tells me that AoE isn’t strong enough.

i wasnt aware that attacking a castle gate is zerging a choke point. if you dont drop the gate how else are you going to get into the castle to cap it. the fact that there can be nonstop aoe’s blocking a castle gate from only a few people inside the castle is pretty ridiculous and has nothing to do with learning to play.

Using catapults of course. Having everyone stand next to the castle gate and attack it is usually a bad idea. If you do insist on it, then you just all stand in the same spot and bam, aoe from players mitigated because of the 5 person cap.

i dont stand at a castle gate unless im operating a ram. catapults dont make it rain fireballs nonstop for 20 minutes, players do, and standing there watching it rain fireballs for 20 minutes nonstop from a few players is ridiculous. i play a class with aoe and it is ridiculous and need the cooldowns increased.

No, catapults was how you’d destroy the gate while avoiding their pesky aoe. And the fact that its player aoe was also mentioned if you read my post. Player aoe is limited to 5 targets, therefore stacking all of your zerg on top of each other will go far in mitigating the damage (if the rest of your zerg decides it does want to stand at the gate).

I genuinely hope ArenaNet isn’t considering sharing portal with over-represented, and highly mobile professions.

I personally think it’ll either be necromancer or engineer since those two make the most sense as far as portal like powers go. One is technology, the other is already summoning underworld stuff like shades.

Elementalists need more builds, right now only 1 viable that 80% of eles are using (including me ^^)

Ridiculously false comments like this are horribly inaccurate an dilute real conversations.

I think the engineer needs the most focus, followed by the ranger. All the necromancer needs is minor tweaks and bug fixes, in my opinion.

It’s actually very close to true. It’s either d/d or pure bunker fore most of the community (and most d/d is still very bunkeresque anyway), but fortunately the build we were pigeonholed into is pretty good, so we’re not as in dire of a need as engineer or ranger.

I’m super tired of hearing Thief complaints.
The hate toward the class from baddies who can’t counter the easy dagger gimmick (really? how bad can one be…) really drove me away from the game.

I think most of the complaints is about stealth rather than the silly burst.

I’m not even sure this will ever go away unless Anet pretty much removes stealth

This might be very true. At the very least stealth needs a slight rework because it’s unenjoyable to fight against, seeing as it has no counters. (aoe doesn’t actually counter it, and it’s about to be nerfed anyway. Best you can do is aoe snare and hope they don’t have removal if it hits) I think an easy fix would just be allowing you to know if you hit an stealthed enemy or not. That alone would make a huge difference.

Thieves in WvWvW need nerfs. Perma stealth, highest burst, fastest run speed. Not even remotely balanced.

  1. There is no such thing as permanent stealth, even with culling which is ridiculously exaggerated.
  2. Thieves don’t have the highest burst and the Backstab combo is so easy to counter that you have to be logged in while AFK to be killed by it (or just terrible at PvP… lol).
  3. The fastest that a Thief can run is at 33% speed with the Swiftness buff which they have less access to then most classes and the Signet of Shadows only gives 25% speed buff (like every other speed signet now). Also, Thieves are supposed to be mobile, complaining about that is like complaining that Elementalists can use magic.
  4. Please, stop spamming the forums about how unbalanced Thieves are; it’s ridiculous.

1. Just hit walls with CnD, or use heartseeker through a smoke field. Also, culling is very dependent on the number of people, so in large zergs it does get as bad as its made out to be (like an entire zerg rendering on top of you after 5 seconds). Obviously not perma stealth in battle, but they’re still perma stealth.
3. Fleet shadow (though it’s currently bugged) increases movement speed by 50% in stealth.
4. The above doesn’t make them OP though, imo, they actually need buffs to encourage people to do more than burst or condition spam.

I think elementalists need some tweaking on non-d/d skills, especially focus which doesn’t seem to mix well with other weapons. Only having one or two good builds is never good for a profession.

Necros I’m not really sure about, but I hear they still have loads of bugs, and they don’t really seem to be very strong overall (except for boon removal). Maybe minion control would? Reworking condition damage as a whole would help them a lot, as well as some other professions.

Oh and rangers still need some work, especially spirits. That whole skill subset seems really weak.

A pain for normal people to run level 1s to that rich node without an escort, sure. Still worth doing. But for people who can teleport there instantly? An infinite make character->mine->delete->repeat cycle for endless ore.

Is this your story in terms of events?

  • Bot makes character.
  • Level 1 Bot somehow gets to a level 51 NPC, passing all of the mobs in the way without dying (which probably takes ages – try it).
  • Level 1 Bot somehow completes the karma event (and others to get the necessary 602 karma) for a pick.
  • Level 1 Bot gets past lots of Karkas on the Southshore.
  • Level 1 Bot farms the rich node without being killed by the uber Karka.
  • Bot mails Ori to alt and deletes character.
  • goto 10

Lots of these seem;

  • unfeasible
    and,
  • time-inefficient.

The pick is account bound. Do you know what that means?

It means it’s an easy fix.

And that anet should do it quickly. Right now gold sellers just need one character to buy loads of these and hand it over to noob alts to farm ori. I hope they get on this.

I play d/d ele, so that’s kind of melee. In my experience, it’s not really too much more difficult. Plus it’s just a lot more fun.

I believe the issue here is that a team of elementalists can do a massive amount of AoE damage with those skills because attunement swapping allows you to basically lay down multiple high damage large AoEs one after another.

The thing is, team set ups require a good coordination. If they don’t have it, people can just leave the aoe area and the spike fails. A good example would be stacking churning earth- they need to designate the area and use communication software to synchronize the cast and warp.

IMO, devs shouldn’t be punishing teamwork.

edit: as for meteor shower v arrow cart- meteor shower has a 4.25 sec cast time and 30 sec cool down and 1200 range.
Arrow carts can be fired continually and have 2500 range.

Actually it only owns 14.7%, but that’s still enough to make it the largest shareholder. And I think I heard there’s also a guy from nexon in charge of the cash shop.
So yeah, they probably do have considerable influence.

I’d personally like to see dynamic events that are more interactive and/or actually take some strategy to complete instead of steam rolling through with far larger numbers. Events where you actually make choices on who to side with or how to complete them, etc rather than just win or lose. I’d also like to see things that add structures you can interact with, kind of like the bridge building ones, but with things with more impact (you can just go right across the river if the bridge isn’t there).

And maybe some random wandering npcs or hitmen and thieves like in skyrim. It’s always fun when a group of thugs show up to murder you :p Makes you feel special.

why do people hate magic find?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

People dislike it because it’s like nerfing yourself.
As for those saying “it’s about skill” ; If you’re skilled and using magic find, can you be as good as your team mates? Sure. But guess what? You’d still be weaker than if you were using some other armor type. So wearing mf armor means you’re contributing less than you can so you can get more drops.

It’s the same argument as using good gear. If gear doesn’t matter and its just about skill, I may as well just go in naked with a weapon and expect people to be perfectly fine with that.
