1. If you play Ele in 600 range within the enemies, rooting yourself for a long cast-time isn’t what you need AT ALL.
None of the overloads root you. Unlike meteor shower and churning earth, you can keep moving while using an overload. You’re probably just talking about being stuck in the long cast, but I figured I’d mention it just in case.
(edited by Navzar.2938)
I would have very much preferred a storm based elite to be honest, like a skill similar to an arcane overload or something.
I think it really depends on how available it is. The wiki only shows 3 sources of it so far, so if it stays as a rare buff, I’d expect it to be pretty strong.
I’m kind of confused on alacrity too.
The given description is just “66% Skill Recharge Rate”, I’m assuming it means +66% recharge speed, but even then I dont know if that means recharge/1.66 like you stated, or if it means recharge -66%, essentially making it an inverse chill.
Yeah, athough it’s good syppirt, the elite shout does feel off compared to the rest. I guess devs just couldn’t think of a good way to make an arcane themed storm/shout.
Plus, mesmers might not appreciate us nudging into their territory either.
Fresh air tempest might also be viable later on to spam it’s overload
I’m surprised people are so against a change that doesn’t affect balance…
Well since one of the arguments was about special treatment, how about we just introduce the ability to save/load your equipment and builds?
Lances would be pretty cool, and we practically already have them underwater.
I love how we have a moving water field now. Great to support pugs
As a long time ele main, I completely understand why people want a nerf, and I’m surprised that it hasn’t happened. All I want to say is that if ice bow 4 does get nerfed, I’d like to have some buffs for the other bow skills rather than just dropping ice bow from play.
Freeze! is perfect, and Feel the burn! is very fitting, but Eye of the storm! and Aftershock! are weird phrases to shout. Can we riot to change the names? At the very least let’s go with the I’ll rock your world! suggestion.
I think it’s pretty boring, but not weak compared to the rest. It’ll depends highly on the recharge, but a consistent ability to reduce other skill’s recharge isn’t bad compared to elites that you mostly just leave alone on your bar.
jade winds were datamined once as elite skill, a 600 range unblockable 2s aoe stun. if they haven’t changed anything this will still be the elite.
What was the radius on it? Or do you mean it’s a shout? A 600 range pbaoe stun shout would be pretty pro
We could always start churning out idea* to make other utilities worthwhile.
*ideas maybe worthless or way overdone.
Signets-
1. Introduce an elite signet
2. Add/modify a trait to affect signets. Even if earths embrace doesn’t come back, something 5stacks of vuln for 10 seconds would be good. Piercing shards could be a decent place to add this.
3. Maybe change signet of air passive since we already have so much swiftness
Glyphs-
1. Change glyph of elemental power into a quickness skill
2. Increase health of summoned elementals?
3. Make revival skills work on defeated players
Conjures-
0. If anet doesn’t want people to use a skill and drop it, they need to buff the weak skills.
1. Frost bow- Buff frost volley damage. Give the autoattack huge damage/velocity buffs. Add a heal to frost fan?
2. Lightning hammer- Skill 4 needs to be much more reliable, and maybe cast faster. Make skill 3 a knock down?
3. Earth shield- stun breaker. Buff the auto a bit? (I don’t use it so idk)
4. Flame axe- Buff AA’s might to 10sec. Buff both fire field durations to 6sec (also unsure about this one)
5. Make all conjures 1/4sec cast
X. Another odd idea would be to add more charges and then have skills cost various amounts based on how strong they are. That would help make autoattacks feel like less like a waste of charges.
(edited by Navzar.2938)
I think glyphs would have a good chance at seeing use if their stun breaker got a revamp. As it is now, its effect is something you’d want to keep up rather than save. Maybe change it to something like:
Gain 5 seconds of an aura depending on your attunement @30 sec recharge
or gain 6s swiftness and a boon depending on attunement @60sec recharge
Aside from that, I suppose the summons could use some more health.
I would say mantras or concentrations could be a good fit for tempest. The first would allow fast blend of dofferent attack types at the same time, whereas the second would be a bit of a storm field
We haven’t gotten much information about what we’ll be getting in HoT, and these kind of things are still subject to change, so I was wondering what some of the things everyone is realistically hoping to get in the next patch.
I’m personally hoping for an elite signet to bring signet eles back up, and to hopefully give us a 40 to 60 second cd option. It’d also be nice if we could get some boons or conditions we didn’t have access to before, like retaliation, quickness, confusion, or torment.

So I’m looking at GW2 again after about a year and a half, and I figured I’d start working towards some ascended armor. Given how expensive it is, I don’t want to make a quick decision, and the game may have changed a lot over the months so I’m wondering- what seems to be the best overall stat scheme for WvW/PvE?
As far as trinkets go, I have a full set of zerker trinkets, and a decent amount of celestial ones, and any type is easy enough to get. So overall, there are sets with some concerns in each one.
1)I know zerker is great for PvE, so it’s worth considering, but I’m worried about how it stands up in WvW.
2) Is full celestial a good/better WvW option (I could switch to zerk trinkets for pve)? 3)The last option would be PVT since that was the WvW staple when I left, but I’m hesitant to choose this because of the lack of raw damage that always seems to be in high demand.
You can’t use two sigils with CD at the same time, so battle + no cd sigil like force or bloodlust

I haven’t been playing much since around the beginning of September and just started again. I’d appreciate it if people filled me in on the following:
1. Significant changes to our class (I’ve noticed new skills/traits and runes changed)
2. What builds are now meta (order of importance: pve/fotm/wvw/pvp)
3. What builds were destroyed
4. A small question about ascended armor: Is it time gated with some daily craft? I see some places mention it’s time gated, but many sites/guides don’t mention anything about it and wiki doesn’t say anything on the item pages
This is a hefty amount of information, but if anyone could fill me in on at least part of it, please what you have to say. Thank you in advance to anyone who responds
Exactly jebro , not sure why people are getting upset and worked up over this , i myself being a new gw2 player and obviously new elementalist player was looking for typical “cookie cutter” build and your thread was the first one that i found and im really glad that you created this thread so players like myself dont need to go over 1000 threads and look through 1000 builds till they find what they are looking for.
Didn’t we used to have a stickied thread that was a compilation of working ele builds? Whatever happened to that? Anyway, a quick google search would have found this build easily.
Anyway, I’d suggest going with 10 in air for zephyr’s boon instead of earth.
You could also consider going with powerful aura, and cleansing wave if you wanted to give a more offensive team support. (since you already have good condition removal)
IIRC, sigil of battle and sigil of doom don’t stack.

Hey, I’ve been gone for quite a while. Two quick questions about the new traits:
1. Lightning Rod doesn’t have a cooldown, so that mean it affects all interrupted foes right? Like, if I interrupted 3 people with earthquake, they all get affected by it?
2. I’m guessing the answer is no, but does Stone Heart work with lingering elements?
It seems like a nerf overall though, seeing as the high crit damage was a redeeming aspect of celestial.
edit: A nerf even if you consider that crit damage was nerfed on other gear as well.
(edited by Navzar.2938)
I’d rather eles get more debuffs through access to 1) boon removal and 2) more cover conditions like poison or torment.
But I actually feel that restoring some of that old condition removal ability would help them more.

Guild Wars 1 players don’t want to play the same Guild Wars 1 content over and over again. Heck, many of us do agree that it’s old and could use new mechanics and features (I sure do). Yes, we were expecting a new game when we heard about Guild Wars 2, but expecting a new game is not synonymous to expecting a completely different game, especially when it’s within the same series.
What we wanted was a sequel to Guild Wars 1 as was implied. Like Pokemon Gold and Silver were to Pokemon Red and Blue, or Halo 2 was to Halo 1. We expected something new that built off of the old things that made the first game great. While Guild Wars 2 is good in it’s own way, many Guild Wars 1 players don’t feel like that sequel was delivered. It’s just a new MMO with the Guild Wars name slapped on it.
Which is a very small amount of time. You can just do it while you’re casting the field too.
You can use fast casting and semi fast casting for ground targeted skills anyway. Somehow I also find it hard to believe that the majority of ele players hate this update.
Edit: by this update, I mean the change to this skill specifically
(edited by Navzar.2938)
fire skills need a huge buff, but the others are mostly fine
I dunno, Flamewall isn’t too bad because it’s a fire field on which you can blast for might. Fire Shield also allows for more might stacking.
Can’t ask for much more than that considering focus is meant to be more defensive : /
You have to get hit to get might from fire shield, and it’s plenty easy to stack might without it.
As for flame wall: it’s only a fire field. Since that’s only thing it has going for it, it’s easily outclassed by ring of fire, which does reasonable damage and has a nicer shape.
I think it’s fair in terms of how many gems you get for a certain time’s worth of gold.
Sure you might look back and say it was only .3g/100gems back at launch, but back then that 30s took a lot longer to make as well. So in that regard, it’s fairly stable.
Yeah, it’s not working.
I thought that the bonuses should linger are the Fire (20% chance to burn melee foes), Air (10% MS), Earth (80 Armor), Water (Soothing Mist), but only the Water one refresh after you leave that attunement.
Fire i couldn’t test, and Air i didn’t notice any difference. Earth adds 80 armor when attuned, but you lose this after switch attunement.
You could probably test fire in pvp with a friend. Just have him use a steady weapon and no offensive stats along with rapid attacks.
It’s not random, it’s a set distance in front of the caster.
The elemental would be great if you could actually control it’s aoe skill the way necros can control their minions. But you can’t, so it often goes wasted.
I’m personally in favor of OP. All ele elites are high cd abilities. I’d love to swap in something weaker but with frequent use for.
Just to make sure, the warrior didn’t have swiftness on it did it?
If they’re on par but ele is so much harder, then they’re not really on par.
I’m honestly surprised people liked the old one with air. 5% faster for every 10 seconds means sitting in air attunement for 50 seconds for the full effect, and then you wouldn’t be able to switch out without it resetting.
If you’re going to go without a fight for that long you may as well just change a utility to signet of air.
As far as swiftness goes, you can get 73% up time just be using Elemental Attunement + Windborne Speed (10% boon duration from arcana). So perma is really easy on any build.
Also I think you meet this should have replaced Zephyr’s Speed, not Zephyr’s Boon. Replacing Zephyr’s Boon would have been a huge nerf.
Like everyone said, zerker for pve. For WvW, not so much, since you’ll just rally enemy players when you die. So you’ll want something a bit beefier.
But whatever you decide on doing in the end, make sure you have +crit damage stuff on your trinkets, since it gives the best ratio for crit damage to the replaced stat.
^I call bs, but your claims would be really easy to test.
Just have an ele and some other classes make their armor levels equal and get hit by the same source of damage at the same time. You can either do this in wvw with a friend from an enemy server, or just stand around in a trash mobs aoe.
Either way, you can easily compare the damage clicks. No need to waste a whole weekend.
I prefer to get back stun break on Lightning Flash. Or reduced cd on Armor of Earth. Because I dont use Mist form, I have only 1 stun break with long cd, and it really hurts sometimes.
True, you can’t use skills in mist form anymore anyway. The only thing being a stun breaker does for it is letting you move around in it, otherwise you’re just stunned and invulnerable.
^Don’t post that, they’ll nerf us again
There is no matter of perspective. One way costs you gold. The other way costs you the mats. Both of which were gained while playing.
Lightning fields are great if your allies have leaps
Although greatswords would be awesome, I don’t think we’d likely get something we can conjure. So I’m going to throw my hat in with 1h swords. The sword legendary also matches eles nicely
For pvp, go asura for any class. It has harder to distinguish animations and it’s better at hiding from view behind objects.
Just a friendly advice. Stop taking him seriously.
I thought I’d give him a shot, but I think I’ll take your advice now, thanks.
enjoy running a warrior in PvE or zerg WvW and being useless all the time.
lol what?
It’s best to use conjures for one or two skills and then dropped, rather than holding on to them. That way you’re just using it as a regular utility and it won’t lock out your skills.
Imo, one of the best things they could do to them is make them instant cast so you can do that to the fullest.
* woosh *
Let’s just make it a 180 degree arc
