What really surprise me is that anyone doubt this game is unbalanced.

Tht is really strange considring its more than obvious.

Perhaps we have completely different definitions of what balanced means.

From a PvE perspective, I can clear any of the content I’ve tried with any profession. On some professions you can do it faster, but I’m not so sure that’s what’s talked about when people talk about balance.

People say you only need DPS in this game and nothing else. And for that type of efficiency play you’re NEVER going to get a balanced game period end of story. No game is ever going to be balanced.

To me, balance is when any profession is viable in a dungeon and they all are.

Plenty of rangers, necros and engies in my guild do dungeons and fractals and do fine. We clear content, we have fun, everyone goes home a winner.

If you’re saying that warriors do more DPS in PvE than any other profession, you’re probably right. But then Guardians bring more support to the table, mesmers bring other things to the table and with recent changes, even necros are quite powerful.

People who focus on DPS are definitely going to say that this game is imbalanced. People who don’t…not so much.

balance=/=Can clear anything on any profession=/= viable

You could pretty much beat everything with just auto attack and dodge if you were skilled enough, but that doesn’t mean having just auto attack while others have a full bar would be balanced.

Most people see it as which profession can clear things most efficiently, or which professions will have the easiest time when you play it skillfully. Ultimately, how much is a class valued in your average pve fights and boss battles.

I try not to talk for “most people”. Seems to me most people don’t think about balance at all…and those that do aren’t necessarily agreed.

Well then, I personally judge balance by how much a class contributes to a dungeon or fractal group, be it through support or dps or whatever combination. Naturally such a thing can’t be measured precisely, but it’s you can see it if certain classes are consistently being valued over others.

And again, just because all classes can get through all content doesn’t mean they’re all viable. It’ about how well they can do it.

Doing this would help curb the condition boom and give eles a better place through anti condition support

How exactly do personal guild vaults work? More specifically, can you accidentally disband the guild and lose the vault contents? Or do you have to empty a vault first to disband the guild?

I never tried, but I think if you accidently clicked step down, you lost everything. So I dont’ put anything of important in my guildbank. Mostly trakittenem.

Anyhow, I think the best way is to keep a “mule” to represent your guild bank all the time. Instead of keep representing guild to guild, so you won’t accidently click leave guild.

It doesn’t matter if no one is representing. All that matters is if there is at least one person in the guild. So as long as you don’t leave your guild, it’s good. There’s also a confirmation for leaving guilds saying “Are you sure you want to leave [insert guild name here]?”, so it’s not something that’s likely to happen by mistake.

ah. I did some reading around and found a bunch of instances where people’s guilds just disappeared without disbanding it or transferring to another server. The thought of that makes me distrust putting 10 months worth of saved gold into a guild bank. I think I’ll just put those golds in tp orders.

Is that so? Well I think I’m going to go represent them on some alts now just in case. I have too much money in trade goods sitting in there to risk anything.

There’s a group of changes I’d like to make and then test out together.
1) Attacks from stealth cannot be blocked.
2)Any damage taken in stealth glances.
3a) Taking damage while in stealths you. (Possibly 2 or 3 hits, similar to a boss’s defiant stacks is getting hit once is too much. I personally feel like 2 would be good) edit: or perhaps rather than breaking it, it should take a couple of seconds off with each hit.
or
3b)Damage packs dealt stealthed enemies are visible (might want to exclude condition damage).

Either way thief might need some buffs in exchange and rebalancing on stealth durations.

EA heal is huge to survivability. People either need it OR the 15 water trait for extra heals. If they nerf EA heal to a chill effect (it would be a complete nerf) then everyone would just spec 15 water as the new mandatory trait. That would make already crappy build diversity worse.
They need to buff our terrible traits, not nerf our only useful ones.

This is true, and 15 water is already close to mandetory as it is :/

Regardless of if yout like elemental surge or not, if EA water was a frozen burst, people mostly wouldn’t bother using it aside from blast finishers in water fields.

If you use a sigil of battle, you’ll have enough might from that + the usually weapon blast finishers.

Looking at the build itself, I don’t think it’s worthwhile traiting cantrips for vigor + regen without cleansing water, so you’d be better of with 20% less cd. If you need vigor, the arcane line gives perma vigor easily. You’ll also probably get more damage by taking your points out of fire and taking stone splinters instead.

The might from the food also doesn’t last long, so you’d be better off with a + power food, and maybe +vitality as the 2nd since your hp is pretty low. Or just +prec 2nd for more damage again.

The reason water and arcana feel mandatory are because of the important stats on top of nice traits.
Lowest hp bracket=need more vitality and heals= water
All builds need swapping=intelligence=arcana (except for fresh air and burst builds)

The line would still feel as mandetory tbh, this is just nerfing EA, which I feel competes with elemental surge fairly well as it is.

Who in their right mind would take Elemental Surge over Evasive Arcana…?

It’s better than EA when running arcane wave and power.

The fall of abbadon was a HUGE deal in the first game, its long since that event in history happened, that’s why you have no clue that it happened in GW2… I’ve played both games, and i didn’t know about this reactor until now… something that happened recently. This is why the Abbadon fractal needs to win xD

Quite the opposite.

People need to realize that GW1 is over, and that GW2 is the current game. We should be furthering new stories in GW2 lore, instead of making GW1 prequels for nostalgia.

To abandon GW2 lore and fall back to GW1 lore within a year of release sends GW2’s future down a very dangerous and destructive path.

People need to realize that there is no separation between gw1 lore and gw2 lore because they take place in the same world and area. Trying to erase the base of all your lore is a very bad idea.

People also need to realize that the fall of Abaddon wasn’t actually part of gw1, only alluded to. Information wise, we have very little.

You yourself should also realize that both of these fractals are past events so in terms of furthering stories, they’ll have the same amount of contribution.

There’s a difference between jormag’s breath vs fiery dragon sword and fellblade vs new swords

When to Jormag’s vs fiery dragon swords the biggest thing is that they are pertty much equal. They’re also actually different skins as you saw in the screen shots, (although I consider them close enough to see them as counter parts). It’s also a classic fire vs ice, and for swords take are mainly made up of their special visual animation, it’s easily enough of a difference to set them apart, making them equal opposing weapons. In short, they’re about as different as twilight and sunrise.

When it comes to the new swords, they’re the same skin and same coloration as fell blades but with added runes and even an enhanced shadowy effect. So they can be seen as a direct upgrade for most people.

I’m going to take advantage of this new strife to request the original gw1 animation on the HoM fellblades to help equal it out a bit (and mainly because that would be awesome).

power scaling

Yes, I already know about how power scaling works, although I do appreciate the nice comparison chart.
I was asking if two handed weapons are already being balanced (that is over all, not just in power scaling) with the fact that they’re short a sigil slot in mind.
Basically, do you feel two handed weapons are weaker/less useful than 2 one handed weapons? If no, then they’re still doing it right. If yes, then it’s an issue.

I’m not saying I’m against two sigils on two handed weapons or anything though. If it were possible it would make balancing a bit easier, especially when considering some of the more powerful sigils.

p.s. Just looking at power scaling isn’t the best comparison since you have to factor activation & recharge as well. I’m sure you know this, it’s just a big difference in look on paper.

Protection is already percentile based, which is what you where asking for retaliation to have. All that would do is buff unfairly multi hit attacks 1v1, and strongly severely protection in team fights.

Rather than wanting protection to change, it’s a good model for how retaliation should function.

So you want to nerf a skill that hits for about 220 on average. (although what you are proposing could allow it to hit for way more on occassion.) These retaliation whines are getting old. They weren’t as bad when retaliation was actually a very strong skill the first few months of the game.

The changes most people want for retaliation would only nerf it in the instances when it would do ridiculous amounts of damage, like flame jet which is 5 ticks a second per target. A change to percentage based damage might actually be buffing the average damage dealt by retaliation. If it were a change by adding an internal cd per target instead, then it’d get a buff like frost aura did.

In gw1, you could have up to 3 dailies in your quest log at a time. So you really only had to log in every three days. You could also save dailies for a looong time until you felt like doing them. And while it did give some nice things, it wasn’t anything necessary or better equipment and whatnot, although they did have some larger bags and special skins. The rewards were tradable too, so again, not really time gated then.

Of course I started this with the phrase “in gw1” so I guess it’s automatically ignored :p

I killed Zhaitan… wait, I still dont know what happened. It just seem that it shows up and died on the mountain without me doing anything.

You should have followed the story better. You’d already by that time blinded and starved him, as well as crippling his ability to make more undead. Also the weapon used to take him down was developed by an Asuran who gets saved in the Asuran story line who you actually meet if you play that storyline. It uses special anti-dragon energy to bring him down.

So by the time you take him down, you’ve already done the damage. The boss fight starts at around level 70 and continues until the end of Arah.

That doesn’t mean he should just sit on a pillar and doing nothing for the fight… At that point we may as well have not even fought him and let him starve to death.

Closest you can get is skins and maybe high end achiever titles from points like heralded achiever or masterful achiever.

So try wielding legendaries if it can be a good set up for your class and wear some harder to get armor. If you’re lucky, they might release hard to acquire ascended armor with awesome skins as well.

Other than that, just having a unique look that also stands out will make you look more impressive (that means no zenith weapons for sure), although that’s more about searching for a look than grinding or progressing in anything. Good looking uniqueness might actually be a more solid way to impress people because of how hard that is to achieve in an MMO (but that’s just my opinion of course).

Of course the areas with the most distinction are still PvP and to a lesser extent WvW.

Burst attacks are mostly one big hit.

Currently with thieves combo for example, it would only do like 500 retaliation damage because your not hitting them much, just really hard.

If it’s a guard using a cleric’s amulet, and no additional power elsewhere, it’s 981.
Multi hit bursts are definitely out there, although some aren’t viable because of what we’re discussing.

On the surface, it may seem “unfair”, but all it really takes is added skill to know when to properly use retaliation and, on the other side, when to use your fast hitting skills.

Just because you have to know when to use it doesn’t mean it’s balanced. It might be reactionary in some cases, but it’s can completely devastate multi hit attacks with little effort on retalation user’s side. Why should those skills be “use at your own risk” if they don’t have a decent pay off for that risk?
Also, retaliation has a decent amount of uptime on some set ups anyway.

New dungeon reward system a nerf to alts?

It’s not a nerf to alts. The only things that can be considered nerfs to alts are concepts along the lines of time gated gear and non tradable one time acquisitions.

If it’s per character, then suddenly it’s more rewarding to play multiple characters for equal amounts of time than playing your favorite character the whole time because the rewards aren’t soul bound.

Retaliation should be 15% of all damage.

in PvP

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

Well if it’s a percentage I suppose they could make it reflect condition damage as well, but I feel like the whole draw to conditions was supposed to be that it bypasses defenses.

Retaliation also deals damage as a condition, so they’d have make sure it’s not going to cause a load of bouncing damage back and forth when two people with retaliation fight.

Amir, % based wouldn’t really be a strong counter to burst. For example, if a bs thief were to hit 13k with their 3 hit combo, retal currently deals around 1k back. If it’s a percent, it’s still only be ~2k at 15%. A lot of nice bursts also involve a decently large number of hits anyway, and some use a lot.

This is pretty much it. Although better toys only really applies to fractals, since waypoints appeal to everybody.
