The human gods are extremely relevant to GW2. That should be easy to see.

Also, polls are a great idea, anyone want to set those up to see some facts as to who voted for what reasons? It’d put an curb the “racism”, “kormirvs”,“boobs” type comments.

Trahearne + Kormir in one package.

Oh don’t even get me started on Kormir. SHE is the Scourge of Elona not Joko.

I second this statement by spooks.

And I didnt vote for obama yet I still had his acceptance speech plastered all over the news thanking me for re/electing him. He’s such a poor winner for his sarcasm.

Seriously its the in universe version of an acceptance speech in an election, get over it.

Did he send you personal mail as thanks?

Fractals being tied into the vote

Honestly,

folks upset about Abbadon not becoming a fractal, to be honest, a fractal would not have gave it justice, to me, it required more like a dungeon, they said that content wouldn’t become a fractal, but two things to consider. A Cutthroat Politics means anything can and will happen, also, doesn’t mean it can’t be a dungeon later on, but more of a continuation of the lore.

Anthony Ordon said it won’t be, the content idea is as good as scrapped, and won’t be revisited, because it would invalidate the vote.

This. People keep saying it wouldn’t be good enough, but I say fall of Abaddon fractal is better than no Abaddon at all.

Kiel won via scandal and fraud, so I do not recognize her position.

If true, then she was the perfect choice to win a PIRATE election.

Funny isn’t that the reason Kiel voters keep giving NOT to vote for Evon?

4 million votes, a little over half went towards the other fractal.

No they went to have a good human character. If you paid attention to people’s reason for voting (in game people as well, not just forum posters), only Evon had a majority of voters picking him based on fractals.

If it weren’t for the fractals, Evon likely wouldn’t have stood a chance. In my mind, the fractal offer was a way to balance the candidates from ANet’s kitten-poor storytelling abilities. The storywriters have shown no ability to write any character as nuanced, so in order to get people to vote for the latest in their line of “cackling villains”, the developers added in the Fractal choice (which does at least have lore ties even for those who don’t tend to run them).

This is pretty much it. That doesn’t mean people will or should be okay it though.

This makes me wonder how many people and guilds were storing votes until the last day to spend on evon.

Mixed feelings about this.

On the bright side: Evon’s choice of fractals sounds a bit better.

On the dark side: ArenaNet learns from experience, and now they won’t experience the effect of lower WP costs on the community.

They’ll get to experience the effect of of black lion key sales on their wallets :p

Galen, the lollipop doesn’t cost a days wage because you earn things in addition to the lollipop.
@threadtopic The problem is that the only way to get a lollipop is through the extra that you can only get once a day, rather than being able to continue to work for more lollipops at a lower rate.

You’re right you do earn more stuff but it has no bearing on laurels because they’re different currencies.

Its like saying that if you earn 2g in a day, the value of it isnt really 2g because you also earned 8k karma. Thats incorrect, the karma has no bearing on gold.

You’re right, it has no bearing on laurels, but that doesn’t mean you can say 1 hours of play is equal to 8 hours of play. Even if they’re different currencies, you still earn more with one option than the other.
2g vs 2g + 8k karma, there is indeed a difference because the second one gives you something in addition to the same reward.
Side note: Karma actually does have a bearing on gold though in case you have a mil or two saved up thinking there’s nothing you can use it on

And I’m not arguing with the time gated aspect, I even stated that was the problem.

Again, someone not helping the merchants doesn’t make him evil. That’s a ridiculous claim to make. Not getting involved = sky pirates get it to fund their crimes against LA. Getting involved= Evon gets it to fund his campaign. One harms people, the other has no good or bad affect on people.

Neutral means not getting involved in a war sense, not in a moral sense. Huge difference.
In a moral sense, it means not good or evil.

On weapon stability sounds really strong imo. Seeing how magnetic aura is already a good skill I feel this could push it over the top. For the rest, I agree with your listing and find it quite reasonable.
For extras:
For glyph of storms I think lightning storm needs an increase on the individual strike aoe and fire storm a bit of extra damage or an occasional burn.
I think unsteady ground could use a bump similar to what you suggested for fire wall.
Lastly, as others have mentioned, fire shield needs a buff as well.

I’m sure plenty of us would rather have more of a villain for a leader in our stories.

Yeah.. we had that already with Minister Caudecus, and it was pretty unexciting. If you’re looking for politicians who favor greed and self interests at the costs of making the world a worse place, just turn on the news. I like my gaming experience to be different from real life, though.

Except Caudecus is in a typical position of being an evil antagonist, rather than on the player side. Some players like having a break from the normal siding with good.

Also, when it comes to video games, making the world a worse place gives often gives you more to do anyway. If everything were fine, then you wouldn’t have any events or quests to do.

That’s just the point – we already have very bad things happening to the world of Tyria. You know.. the dragons rising and all life being at stake. So why in the world should we ever be interested in focusing on some politician’s petty political schemes?

As for “siding with good”, if you’re looking to side with a villain then you’re playing the wrong game. It’s been stated repeatedly that players take on the roles of heroes in this game. If there is a story to be told with an evil NPC, you’ll never be working with that NPC, you will always be working against him.

Either way I said “more of a villian” not the villian, when talking about Evon. As in sure, do the right thing by beating the bad guy, but think more about yourself too. In case you haven’t figured it out, Evon isn’t evil, nor has he done anything evil.

I don’t know.. Evon having adventurers recover stolen property and then using that stolen property to fund his political campaign seems evil when his opponent, Ellen Kiel, is returning the stolen property she helps recover to the victims who were raided.

How in the world is that evil?
Ellen is returning hero= good path, she helps the merchants
Evon is keeping it= neutral, it doesn’t harm merchents further, it doesn’t help merchants eitehr
Evil= Harming
Frankly, keeping a load of treasure you stumble apon is what most people would do. It’s even what Ellen’s subordinate expected to do.

Not being good =/= evil

in Elementalist

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

It’s still a useful skill because of the mobility nerfs and our channeled attacks. But from a functional viewpoint it does seem odd that a warping skill like that isn’t the stun breaker. Still, they had to pick some cantrips to remove the stunbreak from, and your other choices were mist form(unlikely since all invulns break stun) and armor of earth(which would mean losing our only stability utility).

If they do buff it with a daze in addition to current function though, I’d only expect a second or two in exchange for higher cd, or maybe just a 1/4 daze for interrupting.

Isn’t the focus more like a shield than a weapon? I wouldn’t expect it to do loads of damage.

Even so the fire skills are just too weak. Not much use offensively, and little use defensively. Even as a defensive weapon, I feel it should be able to do some moderate damage in it’s fire attunement if they aren’t going to be defensive skills.

Evon is going to turn out to be Flame legion. They’ve been trying to make a new god, and when that didn’t work they’re left high and dry. It’s not like there’s some deposed god of secrets who everyone thinks for dead that they could attempt to free by using knowledge gleamed from observing his imprisonment.

Someone already tried to release him 250 years ago, that’s when he was killed, not during the fall. So that method wouldn’t work.

You should pay more attention to the dialogue.

<player name>: “Kormir?”
Kormir: “No. Yes. Kormir. And much more.”
<player name>: “Abaddon?”
Kormir: “No. His power. His knowledge. But not him. His will is broken. There is a new god of secrets. There is a new day.”
Kormir: “Nightfall has come and gone. I have much to do…Much must be repaired.”
Kormir: “This will take you home, or to wherever you desire.”

Usually, if something is dead, I don’t go talking about how broken its will is, because that would be kind of redundant.

Player character was inquiring about what happened to Kormir and Abaddon. Saying his will is broken is Kormir’s way confirming that he’s dead.

Kiel vs Evon ~ We all know who wins.

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

They not voting Kiel because she’s human.

They are voting her because she’s more liked.

Evon represents the Black Lion company and all the bad things it does, like supporting the consortium, selling ‘gasha’ balls in the form of those RNG chests, not letting you recreate items no longer in the store after you bought them, selling skins and clothes as perishable items instead as unlocks…

Smart people do not like to be scammed with that kind of stuff, and Guild Wars 2 has lots of smart players, so its only natural Kiel is winning.

Smart people realize that voting doesn’t affect anet’s choice to implement more RNG cakittenems. The only thing that decides whether anet will continue to do so is the amount of money people spend on RNG boxes.

@StinVec So after reading what you said, I realized this all may just be an intricate anet ploy to discover the weakest faults in their game while avoiding heat from players as they argue amongst themselves.

I’m pretty sure this is anets way to ask their players what type of content they want. Completely new lore, or to better expand on old lore.

Although I was just joking earlier, the problem with that is that most players don’t vote on that. First of all, the biggest deciding factor is simply which character they like more. Second of all you have multiple variables, waypoints vs keys, new vs old in addition to Kiel vs Gnash. The votes don’t actually tell that much. So while what you said is certainly true, they’re only really finding out through the forums, and even then the opinions are often (somewhat to very strongly) skewed because of players want to support their candidate.

Fractals being tied into the vote

Navzar.2938

I run fractals on a regular basis and I played GW1. I have no interest in the abaddon fractal. I understand why others are but I just don’t.

I’d rather go for the new one of infinite possibilities than the classic gw1 one that will more than likely never be capable of living up to the magnitude of hype everyone is placing on it.

I will try to tell you once again. This is not the GW1 battle, this is the one where he gets defeated by the other gods. Mkay?

And we already have tons of asuran content, this could bring nothing new.

Still, the gods are old lore, I’d rather they leave the gods shrouded in mystery and explore new lore.

All lore is about old things. If you mean information we haven’t had before, then this is still new lore because we know so little about it.

As for the voting, if they really wanted to know what we wanted they would have split it up instead of this candidate thing. I.E. to vote for a fractal, you have to run fractals to get the votes.

Evasive Arcana in Water = Frozen Burst

in Elementalist

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

EA is not just used for the water heal. People also use it as a blast finisher for earth and also aoe fire puts out nice direct damage. The only weak one is the air where you have to dodge into the target to blind.

EA heal is huge to survivability. People either need it OR the 15 water trait for extra heals. If they nerf EA heal to a chill effect (it would be a complete nerf) then everyone would just spec 15 water as the new mandatory trait. That would make already crappy build diversity worse.

They need to buff our terrible traits, not nerf our only useful ones.

If Elementalists need Healing Ripple and/or Evasive Arcana to be viable it’s unhealthy for the class as a whole and needs to be fixed. Obviously this would include reworking or buffing other traits to more evenly distribute power across the class’ trait trees.

The reason we need those is because we’re in the lowest base hp bracket. So to fix this while removing either of those two, you’d have to do some serious work to rebalance it.
