Ecto Salv Rate decrease after TEQ patch

Except it’s not. There are four outcomes per roll, each with their own probability. We don’t know what that is, nobody really bothered recording every salvage attempt to see if it’s 0,1, 2 or 3 ectos to establish a base line. What we do know is that with a large enough sample, it averages out to around 0.90. As far as we know there could be a 30% chance or even higher of getting none and it’s the chances of 2 or 3 that brings the average up to 0.90. All we can say for certain with master kits is it’s not a D4-1 ectos per salvage, that would yield 1.50 per.

A while ago, I did a salvage test where I salvaged 200 rares and recorded reach result (You may have posted in there). It was 64 results of 0 ectos out of 200, so a 32% chance of getting 0 ectos. Assuming this is the correct probability, the probability of getting 0 ectos from 7 salvages is 0.03%.

However, this argument still remains unconvincing. Improbable things do happen. And as always, there’s absolutely no documentation in this thread.

Your sample size wasn’t huge, but it’s large enough to get an estimate, so the chance of 0 is probably around 30 to 35% probably around. So some noob maths gives these percentages
100*.3^7=.022% 100*.32^7=.034% 100*.33^7=.043% and 100*(1/3)^7=.046% 100*.35^7=.064%

Considering the amount of players and the amount of rares each player salvages, I’d say .03% and the others are rather high. For example, the .03% would average 3 times out of every 10,000 times 7 ectos get salvaged in a row, and the community as a whole salvages a LOT of rares.

So how do we fix Berserker?

Make enemy attacks harder to evade and hit for less damage.
If things 1 or 2 shot you no matter your equipment, then you may as well go full offense anyway. And if you can stay alive in any equipment, you may as well go full offense to make things faster.

Also, if you have a private guild bank just for you and you accidentally “stand-down” from that guild, you lose everything. Support will not and can not do anything to help you. I have a personal guild bank that I share with 2 very close “real life” friends, we are all officers with the permissions to change each others ranks. I am the actual guild leader and if I accidentally drop my-self from the guild, they can re-invite me.

That’s not true, you actually have to quit to lose everything.

1. Buff back Bountiful Power. The nerf was uncalled for.
2. Buff back Ride the Lightning. The nerf was uncalled for.
3. Add the stun breaker back to Lightning Flash and Cleansing Flame. The nerf was uncalled for.
4. Remove stun breaker from Glyph of Elemental Power, a utility skill you ideally want to always have on recharge. The buff was uncalled for.

1. I think this nerf was reasonable since it’s now in line with other profession’s +% damage per boon traits.
2. I pretty much agree with this. The mobility was rather important. Although the 1550>1200 range is acceptable, the recharge shouldn’t be more than 20.
3. This was definitely necessary because all cantrips stun breaking was just too much, so some had to go.
4. Well you can still use it as the old version if you want to, but I agree that it’s a bad choice for a stun breaker and could use some work.

Fire Trait Idea.

in Elementalist

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

I’ll address you’re idea first: I personally think 10% power to healing power would be pretty bad for a grandmaster major. People don’t really like diamond dust and that does a similar thing, and is even in a line that would benefit more from what it gives. On the other hand, healing power from power doesn’t really work well with the rest of the line and is still just a 10%. Maybe if it had some condition removal as well, it would be worth the major slot. As for GM minor, I’m not really sure.

I think the trait line could use some cleaning up by merging a few weaker traits together, while others just need to get scrapped. Overall I think many of the traits might be okay, but they’re just a little lacking to be worth while most of the time.

I think burning rage and burning precision should just be merged together and kept as grandmaster minor.

Flame Barrier is just awful, and needs a rework or massive buff. You could drastically increase the % chance or make it a couple sec 100% chance with a cd. It’d probably be better to completely rework it though.

One with fire would apply the effect to all attunements.

Sunspot is okay, but a 1 or 2 sec burn on it would be nice.

Conjurer is really just about the conjure skills, which are getting buffed, so we’ll see how that turn out. Although I think another option for this trait specifically could be increasing the +stat bonus from each conjure in addition to the current effect.

Fire’s embrace- make this an adept trait. boom, huge buff to signet builds. (On second thought, this might be too much since the trait itself is okay. It’s just the bad traits that come before that don’t make it worthwhile.)

I also feel like the 10% more damage and 20% faster recharge skills for each attunement are a little lacking in general, and take up slots for possibly better traits.

Earth > Solid
Water > Liquid
Air > Gas
Fire > Plasma

The four states of matter represented perfectly. You’re just reaching there. Sorry.

Ice and steam/mist are non liquid water, so that doesn’t really work. Earth also has some dust attacks stuff, although that isn’t exactly gas. I think lightning just usually falls under air because it’s in the sky and comes from clouds… which are also technically water.

Anyway, I’d say electricity fits well enough in air. You don’t usually think of producing electricity just by heating things up after all.

I do agree that the air magic line focuses too much on lightning and not enough on air/wind effects though.

For starters, I think returning the condition removal is a good choice. The broken with cantrips was the sucessive stun breaking, which was fixed.

And this is more of a side thing and it doesn’t solve the main issue, but maybe we’d be better in this meta if we weren’t so boon dependent for buffs? Some of our passive buff traits are pretty bad. Boon hate is a pretty good mechanism against eles after all.

Where can I find the patch notes about these changes to the classes? I can *never seem to find them. :/

bank and bag slots -> ripoff

in Black Lion Trading Co

Navzar.2938

Bag space is far more valuable in that it’s the stuff that you carry with you, so you don’t have to run to a city or use a consumable to use it.

As for the bank tabs vs guild storage, I definitely agree with you there. Although I would split up the stash, trove, and cave into 50, 100, 100 parts to look at separately rather than 50, 150, 250. So it’s actually
Guild stash- 50 slots- 10s/slot
Guild trove-100 slots- 38s/slot
Guild cave- 100 slots – 62s/slot

This is important because the guild storage can only hold tradeable items, so at the cave you might want to reconsider whether you want that or a way hold all items.

Lastly, you’re forgetting about mule characters. They cost twice the gems of the bag slot, but give 20 slots and 4 bags worth of space. If you continue to use fractal bags, that’s basically 40% of the price, making it roughly ~30.6s a slot.
More realistically, you’ll probably buy four 15 slot bags for at 60s each, making it a total of ~33g for 80 slots, or ~41.23s a slot. As a plus, it can hold account bound items

Karma jugs hoarding

As if to spite those who pay attention to taking the most efficient course of action, Anet made this change without giving us a heads up.

The entitlement is that you demanded notice of this ‘nerf’.

If this 95% karma boost was a problem enough to warrant such a ‘nerf’, why would they announce it happening to give people a heads up and do it en masse?

Many months ago it came up on the forums whether or not using multiple boosters to get Karma to 95% on consumables was an exploit or working as intended. At that time, Anet stated that it was not exploitative and that it was intended and they had no problem with it. This was a major reason that led people like myself to hoard our karma and boost up to use it.

And that changed when they introduced the Wallet 2 weeks ago. Now you don’t need to worry about which character can get the karma, all of them will have it.

Before it was fine, you had to choose which character needed the karma the most. Now, you don’t need to choose, you can hoard all the karma you want for your wallet, and not have to worry about consequences like not having enough for other characters.

You could use the karma jugs on any characters though. So hoarding in you bank was still more effective.

Ascended rings: "unique"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

Actually, yes it does. I can think of a bag specifically that it labeled as ‘Unique’ and you are allowed to have only 1 on your character. You can’t even carry one from mail to your bank, if you have one equipped. Unless this was changed between when I played last year (January through July of 12) and now.

Exactly, in WoW Unique means you CANNOT buy two of the same item and waste money/tokens that way. It doesn’t mean the same than in GW2.

WoW actually uses the term “unique-equipped” for items you can own more than one but can only equip one at max at the same time.

However, its not a waste. You can infuse them to be different items, at which point you can wear both.

Or, as they are account bound, you can buy with the intent for multiple characters.

Its not like they cannot be used. They simply cannot be used for his original intent. There’s a different. Informed shoppers know and understand this.

It’s a waste if your goal is to have two infused rings since if you do that, you are back to square one. They cannot be used if you don’t have alts.

And in all that, WoW uses the term “Unique-equipped” and not just “Unique” to be more clear. So it IS wrong to say that the term is used by most major MMOs since WoW population by itself makes it most major MMOs just by himself :p

He wouldn’t need two pre infused rings unless he ran fractals, in which case earning an extra ring would be no problem.

In terms of the topic at hand, they could definitely do a better job of explaining unique.

Not all the ascended back items have fancy skins. The quivers and books seem to be the generic skin to me.

Karma for an ascended piece seems like could be alright to me, but the 100k =23 days thing isn’t quite right. Unlike laurels, you can karma in many parts of the game where as laurels are only from daily, monthly and achievements, making them much slower to acquire. There’s also a large array of karma boosters available, you just have to find a banner or bonfire or maybe your guild has the boost. So you’d have to be careful with the pricing, otherwise you’re just screwing over people who got the piece through mystic forge.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Navzar.2938

in 15 fractals you should have at least one Vial of Condensed Mists Essence. Take that and follow the mystic forge recipe on this page.

If you don’t want to do fractals for it then it only costs, 24 skill points and some gold to buy the rest of what you need from the TP. Toss it all in the mystic forge and you don’t have to step another foot in a fractal or level any crafting profession.

This is all pretty much irrelevent if the OP has not dropped the Vial yet. Which i believe is what he’s been talking about.
Frankly, vials should have been added to the fractal merchant (either normal or pristine tab) long ago. I’m not even going to mention that the backpacks should be accessible through other means, like other ascended gear. Also long ago.
Oh wait, i did mention it.

Have you done fractals before? There’s no way he’s past level 15 without ever having a vial drop.

That being said, I do agree ascended items need multiple ways to acquire each slot. Simple fix is to change the recipe to something you can buy so it doesn’t need that vial.

2. If guardian traits for healing they do no damage.
3. Their boons are gained via utility, meaning they have lengthy cds.
4. Guardian has no mobility compared to ele.
5. Guardian lacks the diversity of ele.

The first two apply to ele as well. For the third, guardians also have their virtues, and have boons on weapons skills as well, not just utility slots. Fourth, though faster thanks to lightning flash, ele’s aren’t really very mobile, that’s just an afterimage from pre RTL nerfs.
5. Explain?

If it’s only alerting him, not placing the orders for him, then it’s probably legal. The stance on 3rd party programs has traditionally been that they’re not disallowed unless they actually giving a straight up in game advantage over others or do things for you. However, if this is only alerting him, he’s not getting a technical advantage, he still has to do the same in game stuff the same way everyone else is at a similar human speed. Trait Rework Ideas

Navzar.2938

Buffing fire traits won’t do anything. Arcane and water are too essential to give up, so even if the fire trait line were really good, it would just compete with air/earth for points. Fire would have to be severely overpowered for anyone to take it over water/arc.

Biggest problem with traits isn’t actually the traits themselves, it’s the general weakness of the class that forces elementalists into arc/water to make up for it. And sure 30/30 isn’t necessary at all, but not taking at least a decent amount of both is just suicide for pvp.

If they buff the traits without fixing the core problem, it’s just going to make the situation worse.

In the pessimistic view that the core problem won’t be fixed, they could buff the lines by adding traits that help make up for those weaknesses in other lines.
Example: X% of your power is converted to vitality. [possible secondary effect]
Of course anet has made traits like these somewhat underwhelming at only 5% with no other effect, so that would only be good if they got around to changing that too . That or possibly put it into a minor trait slot.
As for arcana, there’s been many suggestions for reworking that one.

I just really don’t like the idea of chance to burn after being hit in melee, especially for a build speccing into fire. The matter of limited range is already there anyway. Which I guess leads to another option- just make it for all attacks.
I do agree that if it affected allies as well it would be okay, but I like to steer away from things like that since minor traits aren’t optional, so I feel like putting party support at the price of your own ability in the base traits kind of limits your options since that’s more situational… if that makes any sense.

As for air 5- I don’t think being like the earth one is really that bad compared to what it is now. I just want the trait to actually exist. As it is now, it makes no impact.

So I went to cursed shore today to try out the farm, and the majority want staff guardians and only staff guardians for the events. It seems the reasoning is because guardian staff can tag all the mobs. When I mentioned eles could as well (some actually asked if eles have good aoe) the common opinion changed to, maybe, but staff guardians have boons.

So the general consensus of pve farmers seems to be that guardians have better aoe damage and better boon support than eles, on top of being bulkier. GG guys, but it’s over. Eles have now been demolished by staff guardians for all of our aoe damage needs, and all they have to do is stand there and spam 1.

You should play guardian first before trying to make this claim. My second main is a guardian now and I do agree that they have better support tools than the ele including sharing boons but they don’t excel in aeo damage. Not even close. The guardian staff auto attack does deal dmg up to five foes (that’s what most guardians do in pve and in wvw to gain massive amount of loots) but the dmg behind it is very mediocre. A glass ele with a staff can down 5 or more opposite players within a zerg while a glass cannon guardian will never down even one by using his staff (exception would probably be an upleveled).

Originally I was going add a disclaimer tag about the post. The last line was partially sarcasm. I’m very hesitant to believe that guardian is equal to or better than ele aoe damage despite the large amount of farmers swearing by it. After all, guardians are one of the best pve classes, so it’s likely people are simply assuming they’re best at everything. I’m was more concerned because of the community’s insistence that guard aoe damage>ele, and it seems we are being replaced in that role for pve groups.

As for context, this is strictly pve, so it’s about the sustained damage, so I’m not sure comparing it to wvw is the best way to look at it.
I am leveling up my guardian though, and I’ll probably power level the last chunk with crafting just to test this out just in case.

Also, make 5 point air minor add 5 crit (or 25+level percision) rather than it’s current function.

Personally, I think fire barrier would still be pretty useless like that. Maybe they could make it a guaranteed burn with a cd, but I think it might be better just to scrap it altogether. Maybe just slap in burning precision instead.

Definitely agree with sunspot.
One with fire- I support reworking it. It could be a proc on swapping into fire attunement effect or buff fire utilities to make elemental themed builds possible.

I think your burning rage could work without being too much. It’s deep into the line after all, and equal to the guardian adept trait (they’re also able to upkeep burning fairly well if they want to). That or merge the current burning precision into it (assuming you don’t want it to replace the minor).

Pyromancer’s Puissance- Another one that could be good with a swapping into fire attunement mechanic if you want to keep similar buff effects. You could also have it proc on each time you burn a foe.

I don’t really think the new conjurer would be used much though, except for even more lightning hammer usage anyway. The cd on the conjure skills are the main reason I think that. Besides, we can already somewhat do it with the spare conjured weapon if someone doesn’t pick it up.

Edit: Just to clear things up a bit, I don’t personally believe guardian’s aoe is better than ele aoe, this is more so my reaction/understanding of how people view us in pve. The last two sentences were also kind of sarcastic.

Overall the game is very casual, but there are some areas that are more moderate, and now they’re adding in a small number of high skill areas as well so they can try to appeal to a broad range of people. Difficult=/= hardcore btw, although there is a lot of grind if you want to chase after high end cosmetics like legendary weapons or the lightning hammer skin, so there’s a fair amount of things you could consider hardcore there as well (or dedicated saving if you play casually).

It’s an item you can salvage for ectos to earn profit. It’s not strange at all for such a thing to have aggressive buy order competition. After all, it’s pretty much instant profit once someone sells, especially if the price was as low as 10s.
