How about adding a trait somewhere that makes signets(either the passive, the active, or both) aoe? That would make them far more popular.

Cauterize Wounds (New)
Heal slightly when granting might to yourself or an ally.
Note – Roughly 100 base, with a very low scaling.

Also, was this healing per stack or per application? Because it’d be rather weak of a GM major if it’s per application.

Either way I always hated that short cripple hit- it’s only 1sec, so it doesn’t really help and it makes CE a channeling skill, which sucks.

If I am not mistaken this is what used to happen in beta.

Hmm I don’t remember if that was the case, but I don’t think I payed this trait much attention back then and I didn’t play BWE1, only BWE2 onward.

If it really was that way, then that means they rebalanced it, so it’s even less likely to happen.

Stealth openers are going to gib anybody, not just necros.

Untrue. Mesmers can go invisible/teleport. Elementalists can go mist form or RTL. Thieves just vanish. Elementalists can Elixir. Rangers can stealth now. Guardians are.. well guardians.

RTL and stealth aren’t really good counters. One of the attacks just needs to use a short immobolize.

As for the coordinated spike problem, it’s as you said, it’s because necros don’t have a strong short term damage mitigation. That doesn’t necessarily mean they need more life force as the solution.

You guys must be new to the game. The second patch of the month is the balance patch and not the big content patch. The content added is just there to keep people playing till the next real content patch is added on August 6th. They dont release major content additions every two weeks because if they did then a large majority of the player base wouldnt have time to finish the content they added previously.

Go check the balance notes, youll notice quite a bit of useful things added this patch. Jump over to the ranger, warrior, guardian forum and check out how happy they are. If your playing the game so much that your managing to burn through the content every two weeks, then in about two months youll have new gear to chase down in addition to new living world content. If you finish that then i suggest making an alt and gear him out in said new ascended gear.

Welcome to the game, glhf.

The real balance patches are only every two months.

Arcane Precision

Navzar.2938

We don’t need it to be buffed, we need lingering elements to work.
(if lingering elements worked then at this stage of arcana you probably swap attunements every 2-3 secs so you can “stack” attunements and this way arcane precision has a 15% to do something on crit, wich is not that great but acceptable)

Lingering elements (most likely) is only meant to affect the 5 point minor traits. So even if it is fixed, it won’t be having an impact on skills like arcane precision.
This is because if you’d be able to take all the % extra damage skills and get a temporary 50% extra damage for bursting.

It’s actually min-maxing driven to the extreme.

No, because you’re not facing real content. Nobody actually spvp’s naked.

You aren’t facing real content with armored min maxing either. You’ll never get those perfect conditions unless you run into a fully glass character who’s afk.

Simply proof that in that part of tyria history human gods aren’t dead:
1. All the human raciall skils – if gods was dead so why prayers to them have effect?
2. Priory storyline – we are transformed into avatar of Balthazar – tell if it could have any power if balthazar wouldn’t be alive?

risen priests are under control of the dragon and dragon lied to them – that’s why they call that gods have been consumed

btw. to anyone wondering why gods leaved – Guild Wars Nightfall – last two misiion cinematics (Gate of Madness ending cinematic and last misiion ending cinematic)

human racials could just kittenoes of the past, magic left inside humans by the gods. Not to mention how terrible they are, many people take other races specifically because humans have no good racials. It says something that despite wielding the ‘powers of the gods’ humans have the worst racials in the game, the races who dont have god powers, have more power in their natural abilities

The seventh reaper of Grenth is encountered during one of the last story mode missions. He and his dialogue serve as proof enough that at least Grenth still exists and still has some level of influence on Tyria.

While this explains what he did, this doesn’t explain why he was so against limiting the magic he gave away. It’s also inaccurate in some points, such as the gods creating the bloodstone (it was around before they came), so we don’t know how accurate it is.

Anyway, I do like the idea of players influencing the path of the game, and I hope anet decides to expand on this type of player influence as the game goes on.

Navzar.2938

Sometimes, military realities require walking into a trap knowing that it’s a trap – and simply doing it knowingly rather than being caught by surprise is an advantage.

This is true, but it’s not what Kormir did. She walked into a trap knowing it was a trap, but didn’t inform anyone else or making extra preperations, so the enemy still have the surprise as an advantage. Furthermore, there was nothing to indicates she expected her army to get there before Varesh finished her demon summoning ritual. She spoke of taking the brunt of that attack, meaning she fully intended to be hit by it.

The ability to delegate is an important leadership skill.

Yes, but the problem is she delegated nearly everything, letting Dunkoro make the decisions and much the actual leading to player character. She didn’t even make changes for relying on different people situationaly, it was just “This is your position, so you’re the one who handles it”, so she left it to the default guy in charge of it anyway.

Yes, that does mean she’s completely useless. She did do some important things like getting us helping convince elders for more naval support, but overall she was just a semi important background character in terms of how much she aided the effort.

As for the comment about the “Should the Priory stop exploring dungeons because they may contain danger” thing, the Priory is searching for knowledge to combat the elder dragons, whereas Kormir was searching a reputably dangerous place just out of curiosity.

As for the problem with the “why don’t people accept my logic thing”: 1) logic is not universal, your logic may suggest something completely different from someone else’s logic, and logic can be flawed 2)Most of the support for her actions were also along the lines of “because the plot requires her to be a great leader, everything she did must have been good” type though.3)most of of what I’ve seen argued was things like “but the gods chose her, so she must deserve it”, and the famous “you can’t be a god”, implying that there was only one alternative to Kormir becoming a god.
Many others say things logically too, just because you don’t agree with them doesn’t mean your opinions are the logical ones.

Only go prec>power if you’re high in power+crit damage, or rely heavily on things that proc on critical (our most important of which, renewing stamina, has a cd anyway, so you can get away with a lowish amount of precision while upkeeping it thanks to fury).
At 50crit damage, 21 prec= 1% damage increase, at 0 crit damage 1% damage increase =42 prec.
1% damage increase for power on the other hand, is just 1% of what ever your power is (including might stacks).

Navzar.2938

If you mean outer Orr, then yes, I played staff ele for a long time near the beginning of the game, even before I learned the secret of always speccing into water for every build (although EA was a blast finish on all rolls back then, so I guess it evened out) and played 20/20/0/0/30.

Things like Risen giants weren’t a problem since staff was good for grubs and hit multiple times with meteor shower, and really you could just keep dodging for all enemies.

Movement was kind of slow though since staff can’t do much for speed besides swiftness, but otherwise there were no problems save the few smaller champion mobs from group events. They would take ages with a staff and can be kind of unforgiving to solo against because of their hard hits.

For skill points, just kite around a bit, then use frozen ground to stack chill and then use schockwave so you have time to channel the point while using magnetic aura for the ranged attacks, or pop and earth ele.

Lol You say that as if it’s unique to him, rather than all of the popular candidates. You’d be (un)surprised at how few people vote with their heads. That includes voters of all factions, be it Kiel, Evon, Obama, Romney, or anyone else when they have a choice.

It also depends on how you define “logically”. This is a game after all, so the integrity and competence of the candidates don’t really matter. Anyone voting based on that wouldn’t be logical either. It’s all about Waypoints & Reactor vs Keys &Abaddon and which personality they like best.

Edit: Oh and Gnashblade certainly isn’t two faced. We’ve really only seen a scheming business side of him.

In the depiction of the event it shows Abaddon as unjustly betrayed by a jealous pantheon and history written to silence him and tarnish his name. And have the reveal done in such a way that you couldn't really tell if the fractal was glitching up its extrapolated data to fill in the blanks, or if there was some truth to the depiction.

This would be the final part of the kitten ing the lore gets.

It’s actually pretty believable. The gods were just jealous of all the love Abaddon was getting for spreading magic :p

First of all, npcs are only a liability if they have a you-fail-the-missions-if-they-die type (and even then, they can be quite useful if you play right and don’t let them die, which isn’t hard, so they’re only sometimes a liability), or if they charge in and aggro up everything and never stop(rurik). Most characters given a powerful role are actually useful. They stay with your group, have some decent skills, don’t get themselves killed or sabotage your work.

Things Kormir did:

Released Abaddon by delving to deep: Bad… at first glance. When you look into the history, though, Abaddon had been stirring for centuries before then, and it’s likely that Kahyet was already a cultust before then. Kormir may have contributed to breaking some final seal, but it’s just as likely that events would have played out regardless, and if Kormir’s curiosity had had any effect at all, her not doing so would at best have delayed Nightfall. Furthermore, that curiosity may have been what made the gods feel she was suitable to be the goddess of Knowledge.

It’s not “at first glance”, even if nightfall would have only been delayed, that doesn’t change the fact that she was an accomplice to the crime.

Recruited the new generation of Sunspears that would then fight against Nightfall, then recruited allies from overseas heroes. None of us would have been in a position to do anything without her intervention.

She asked people for help, yes. That’s not very difficult to do or achieve. The physical recruiting, was also not her, and frankly just standard procedure for any military organization.

Initiated hostilities against Varesh. Yes, it went badly, but someone had to do it.

Got sucked into the Realm of Torment.

Not faulting her for this, but it doesn’t give her any credentials either. Even if someone had to bear the brunt of it for Elona, that doesn’t mean directly and deliberately walking into a known trap.

Once there, rallied the other friendly spirits in there to scout the Realm of Torment and discover where to go to carry on the war against Abaddon. Without her… well, we may have been able to find a way to reach and defeat Abaddon in time. We also may not have.

Wrong! They were already there and fighting for centuries. Particularly the more powerful allies such as the forgotten and that oddbody group of misfits.

In terms of getting stuff done – sure, she didn’t score the killing blow, and wasn’t an effective combatant after she was blinded (but as described above, game mechanics can probably explain that) but as far as the story is concerned, she did quite a bit.

Frankly, even storyline wise, she just said “lets do this” and pushed most of the work onto someone else, particularly Dunkoro. He was the man that planned out nearly all of those “great ideas” and did the better decision making. (And frankly would have made a much better replacement too)

And once again, it’s not “OMG NPC got what I want/deserve”, it’s that NPC simply doesn’t deserve it. Aside from release Abaddon and choosing to go to war, Kormir’s impact was pretty weak.

Insulting people by saying their motivated by “petty jealousy” also isn’t the best way to make yourself convincing. Just an ad hominem to try to downplay and trivialize their objections.

Navzar.2938

The only reasons you’d do Kamikaze type things are either if it’s right outside your gate so you can vapor form back into the tower/keep or if you’re going to destroy an important siege weapon.

As for builds, you’ll always want at least 15 in water for the condition removal and heal, although going all the way to 30 is pretty good as well since it provides nice support for groups and because conditions are popular these days. Always go at least 10 in arcana for elemental attunment.

When it comes to zergs a staff is a good choice, so put at least 20 into arcana for elemental attunement and blasting staff. 30 in arcana also lets you use dodge in earth as a finisher.

When it comes to smaller groups, you can pretty much use any pvp build fairly well provided that it isn’t centered around bunkering to hold a point. Also, other weapon sets are usually better than staff.
For d/d you’ll want 10 in air for zephyr’s boon. 10 in earth for stone splinters can be pretty good as well. 30 in water can aura share.

Overall, the generic 0/10/0/30/30 works pretty well, since it’s good, hardy and flexible enough to use with all weapons.

For gear I use a mix of soldiers armor with +boon duration runes and a mix of knights/berserker trinkets.

For utility, defensive and aoes work well. So any cantrips, especially mist form or armor of earth. For aoes, frost bow, glyph of storms work fairly well. For staff arcane wave is good for self combos.

Fiery greatsword makes a great elite since you can use it’s great mobility for travel, chasing, and escaping as well as having good dps when used well.

Zephyr’s Strength- A very much needed change, and a nice mechanic.

Soothing winds buff- agreed, 5% to healing power is quite weak

Zephyr’s focus- Granting 1 second of vigor to yourself and allies each second you are channeling is a nice little buff and a good source of vigor without having to spec arcana.

Tempest Defense is too strong for an adept trait, even if changed to 15%. Also your summary says it’s a changed into minor trait for some reason.

Glyph Mastery- I like this quite a bit. Glyphs don’t seem to be very commonly used at the moment, and it’d be very good for pve.

Storm chased may be a bit too strong, seeing as enemy players will nearly always will be moving.

While it could be okay, I’m not sure if devs would really consider the new One With Air, since they don’t seem to want eles to be mobile
It seems more like a trait for running away though, as well as pretty unfair to have a 30% higher speed cap than other professions, so I doubt it will happen.

But when I look at the cooldowns of our conditional skills (RtL, Fire Grab) it’s probably a bad idea to request more of them.

That… might be true. But it is important to consider that our current conditional skills are a result of heavy nerfing multiple times and their if clauses are the core mechanic of the skill, greatly changing it’s effect rather than the if clause just being for an extra somewhat minor effect.
Besides, RTL is more of a way for punishing players who use it differently from what devs intended than anything else. As for fire grab, it’s still a decent skill, although the cd is a little high.

2. Invocations * – These can often take a long time to cast, though not always. If successful they provide a very powerful effect (often a large, strong aoe). However, in exchange for their powerful effects they leave their castors exhausted. For gw2, this would put the user’s own skills on cd and/or possibly an effect that hinders movement/dodging. Taken from gw1 exhaustian skills as well as high energy skills suck as Rodgort’s Invocation and Deep Freeze. (The closest thing to this atm would be Meteor shower.)
*I chose invocations as the name because of Invoke Lightning and Rodgort’s. I felt it sounded better than overcast skills.

I really like that idea. Invocation where you cast and it puts all your other abilities on cool down for 2 seconds but provides huge burst or maybe costs Endurance to cast as part of it’s cost?

Really I’d settle for any kind of ranged burst damage like we had in GW1.

Indeed, this one was my favorite of the list, which is probably why it ended up being the longest
My hope for this sort of thing is that the drawbacks would be strong enough so that it isn’t OP pvp, but would actually give us a way to jump back into a high damage pve position. If it is OP, they could just weaken them with a pvp version for balance since their purpose and effectiveness would be pretty straightforward.

Numbers mean nothing if they aren’t accurate. It also doesn’t help if you pick the outliers for the sake of argument.
And yes, WvW achievements, pvp achievements, as well as some others, certainly need some reevaluating.

Also, trying to take away rewards from others because you don’t have them is very unreasonable, and completely one sided. That’s far from a compromise, which implies both parties are getting part of what they want. A simple request for those points not to contribute to leaderboards would be much a more agreeable and sufficient to solution the concerns of both side.

I’m not one who usually watches the market much, so I’m wondering if this sort of thing is usually just a temporary spike, or if it’s a shift that will stick around?
I ask this because I don’t know if I should hold on to what I have or just dump it and convert my laurels now.

Suggestions for future Ele skills

in Elementalist

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

^Agreed, I actually went back through gw1 elementalist skills to look for ideas.
In addition to the delayed effect skills, I’ve found some themes that might work out.

1. Mind skills- Mind Burn/Freeze/Shock- These spells deal damage and have an if clause. If the clause is fulfilled, the damage is doubled and the enemy gets burned/chilled/knocked down

3.Glow skills- Glowing Gaze/Ice, Shocking arrow- deal low/moderate damage and have an if clause. If the clause is fulfilled, caster gets a positive effect. In gw1, it was energy, so it’d probably be a boon like vigor, or maybe a new boon that increases skill recharge rate by 10~20% for a short period or something.

4.Elemental Projectiles- Ice spear, lava arrows, shocking javelin- very low cd skills that deal moderate damage to a target and give a utility effect like regeneration, piercing or interrupting foe. I think it would be interesting to have these as a manually aimed projectile (aimed the way you should whirlwind attack).

X.[Element] Djinn’s Haste- No idea how this could carry over, but added for reference in case someone else does
Y.Ward spells *- Spells create a protected area around themselves and their allies If they were added they’d have mechanic such as defensive effects activating when allies are struck. Sort of a fusion between banners, but immovable and spirits, but protective effects.
*I personally feel these are embodied by banners well enough, but it could possibly be done if the effects differ enough to give them a unique feel.

Yeah that is true. Maybe they should just have the passive buff from the conjure weapon be for eles only if they were to use that idea. (Although lightning hammer was a skill I didn’t really do much for in terms of buffing) Or try to use traits to make conjures more powerful for eles. ex. conjurer grants +200 armor while using a conjured weapon in addition to it’s current effect, or maybe it could strengthen the elemental passive traits while using a conjure.

The other hope was that people would actually burn through the charges fairly quickly, so they aren’t losing much in terms of flexibility.

The reason I propose these things isn’t because I think they’re better, but rather because I think they would be easier to implement, and thus more likely for anet to seriously consider them.

(Although I’m still hugely in support of things like being able to pick up a conjure again after you drop it, or the initiative type system.)

I adjusted the skills so that you can actually use them as temporary weapons (hopefully). As they are now, the auto attack is just a waste of charges, so people stand there and wait for cds or they just blast off a few skills and drop it.

I figured if the auto attack was strong, then people good actually use the strong skills and then keep fighting with it while waiting for cds. Of course with this model your major limiting factor is the number of charges.

15 gold for guild kite?

Three, slightly off topic, if gold is flowing out like water, maybe someone should take a look at that cof1 farm? It seems to be giving out disproportionally high amounts of gold compared to the rest of the game, but without extra difficulty.

I’ve run CoF explorable all of four times in my career; I don’t even have enough tokens for a chestpiece yet. I don’t play the trading post, or even stock up on event items to sell back after the event is over.

Also, coincidentally, I have around 90 gold at the moment, hundreds of ectos and T6 mats in the bank (saving up for a legendary), and I recently craft-leveled my mesmer up to near the cap because leveling mesmer is a chore. If I actually wanted a guild emblem kite, I would buy one without a second thought to the gold required.

Making money is not difficult. CoF P1 is out of order, yes, but don’t use it as a crutch to complain about things that cost some gold.

Also, by the way, as of this posting, it costs 16 gold, 17 silver and 45 copper to buy a kite with gold. Paying 15g on top of that for a custom appearance is not at altogether unusual.

How in the world did you get the idea that I was using it as a crutch to complain about the kite?
I said it was a off topic because the large amount of money coming from it was mentioned, but it was unrelated to the skin.
