It’s at the anti necro campaigning stage. Expect the nerf hammer to come down in about a month and a half.

Oh, and for the record, I’m an ele and pretty OK with the new necro :p

Like you said, Zephyr’s boon is just really important for d/x builds since it allows perma fury for a nice damage boost and some extra mobility, so it’s much better for dagger users. Bolt to the heart and quick glyphs are also decent traits for when you want to run something besides daggers, so 10 in air is also more flexible.

You also forgot 0/0/10/30/30, which is probably more common than 10/0/0/30/30 as well. It’s a nice bit of extra bulkiness and a decent minor trait. If they fix stone splinters, the extra 10% melee damage is great for d/x, and it also has armor of earth at 50% hp as an option, which is pretty nice.

The way I see it, might from cantrips isn’t really worthwhile because might stacking is already really easy for eles, especially if you use sigil of battle.

Necros, Rangers, Guardians and Eles got it easy, spawn 2+mobs on chest, go afk for 25 min, come back for achivement of going afk while NPCs fight.

I understand necros and rangers, as well as engis which where missed, but why guards and eles? Their summons have limited durations, so they can’t afk kill as far as I know.

Use http://gw2lfg.com/ for fractals, or any dungeon.

Laurels come from both the daily and the monthly. So you can get 40 a month. If you like to WvW, you can also choose to pay 20 laurels+250 badges rather than 30 laurels for the amulet and 25 laurels +250 badges rather than 35 laurels for each ring (although fractals are better for rings imo).

For accessories, just do the guild missions each week. 2 weeks = one item.

they could add an at-location burst to that [nerve damage cloud]
yes, that’d be a new condition for elems.. ‘causes damage along with 60% chance of knockdown every 3 seconds for 6 seconds’

I love this. Really hope they would do that. They’ve already proven they can add in new status effects like torment to certain classes. If we had a status effect that did continuous knockdown it would make a lot of our crappier, long cast spells a hell of a lot better. Be easier to nail someone with dragon’s tooth if they keep falling on their face. And why they hell am I calling it status effects? I mean conditions. Been playing too much Phantasy Star lately.

That would be far to strong for an adept trait.

@wildclaw- Burning fire is in the lower priority list, although my suggestion was just some slight boon removal or merging. So any good ideas for it are always welcome. I tested Vigorous Scepter and you’re right about it being 50%, so it’s not as bad as I thought so I’ll add it to the maybe pile for now.

@both- I didn’t really pay much attention to diamond skin since it was new, but you’re right, 10% is pretty low for a grandmaster. As for the % damage to burning, I’ll add those as well.

Navzar.2938

The last patch did some nice work on bringing up some weak lines and traits into something useful. Of course there are still a few skills fall short of others. Some to the extent that they can be ignored when it comes to build decisions. I’d like to focus more on these weaker traits in this thread. Please add your own ideas & opinions.

Traits that are farthest behind.
Flame Barrier-20% to burn for 2 sec also grants 2~3 sec retaliation (5 to 10sec cd)
or 20% chance to burn for 1 sec and grants 3 sec aegis.
Burning Precision-merge with ember’s might or burning rage. Maybe change to 4sec burning on 10sec cd.
Ember’s Might-This needs a boost to be worth a major slot.
One with fire-Doubles chance of flame barrier activating or merge current form into pyromancer’s puissance. Candidate for rework.
(empty adept slot)

Windborne Dagger-Increase speed outside of combat.
Zephyr’s Speed-rename, increases precision by 1 per level, or it adds a flat +5% crit chance.
One with Air- Rework completely. Ex. Conjure Lightning Hammer, Signet of Air and Lightning Flash inflict 5seconds of weakness. (or grant 6sec of fury). You could merge the current one with some other trait like soothing wind if you want to keep it around.
Soothing Wind- This trait is pretty weak as well. It could use a bump or a second effect.

Diamond Skin- Bump up to 15%, add an effect, or drop to master level

Vigorous Scepter-???
50% higher endurance recharge in combat is overshadowed by renewing stamina. A good start would be making it adept level and working outside of combat.

Traits that might be okay, but might need a retouch.
Sunspot&Earthen Blast-There’s already another thread on these. A simple burn/damage increase might be good.
Lingering Elements-fix to work with all adept minors
Arcane resurrection-Apply aura to self you begin reviving? (30s cd)
Burning Fire-and remove a boon in addition to current function (and move to master rank). Maybe just change to removing two boons and put the old functionality under the current one with fire.
Arcane Precision-increase chance to 33% or make 10~15% on all hits. May have to changes some condition durations.
The trait itself I think is weak, but it’s already in a strong line. So I’m hesitant to say it needs a buff.
Burning Rage- Not a great trait, but it’s only a minor trait so the buff can’t be too large. Preferred choice for merging with burning precision.

For a bit of a more serious answer (although legendary weps are a legitimate goal), have you tried out many dungeons yet? Full level 80 exotics just means you shouldn’t have any stat problems stopping you from doing anything else in pve, and dungeons will provide some more challenging content than open world pve. Of course doing each dungeon path once won’t last a very long time either, but it is another thing to look at.

Simply put, warrior mobility isn’t nerfed because they’re not very good in pvp. If they were decent as other things on top of their great mobility, then there would be more complaints about them.

Frenzy 60 secs breaks stun yea (also takes 50% more damage)
It’s 25% more.

Mist form 75 secs (comparable to say Endure pain but also can remove conditions and you don’t take additional condition damage like you do with endure pain)
And can’t use skills.

Arcane shield 45 secs (could compare to balance stance which is 40 secs but doesn’t block anything just gives you stability)
It’s actually 75sec not 45.

Just made some corrections/notes because misleading info tends to bother me, but your comparisons mostly still stand.

This is interesting, but if you do it again in the future you should probably also include a portion for which profession(s) they play most often, since that skews results, and like someone else said, a bit longer after a balance patch :p

That said, statistics like these really do tell us a lot about how players view the state of the game and are always nice to see. I wonder how this would look next to a “best” study as well, although that topic is kind of old.

As for ranger pets- I don’t think the option to stow them permanently removes something that makes them unique. I rather liked the way gw1 had them as optional things you could spec into. Rangers back then could mostly focused on, well, ranging things.

Navzar.2938

This gives those who spend real money an advantage to more easily make in-game money because they are the only one who can produce the Starcakes because the recipe isn’t tradable. I think this would have been perceived much better if it were tradable even though it would still be wrong based on Anets insistence on not being pay2win.

This gives those who spend money no advantage, because there are tons of those Starcakes on trading post. You can buy as many as you like.

If the food itself wasn’t tradable, you’d have a point, but it’s perfectly sellable just like any other food.

Only gems can get the recipe, so they can make money by making the cakes. So yes, only gems will allow you to make money by making dragon cakes, because if you’re buying the cakes off TP, you’re not making money selling them.

But the lovely thing about the TP is, that after a while people will only be willing to pay the material costs+ TP fees, and maybe a small bit extra. So the cakes won’t earn much money for long if they’re even still profitable atm.

Navzar.2938

Just like in real life, if making a lot of money was easy we’d all be rich. Also, if someone had some magic way of making a ton of money, do you honestly think they’d come here and share their secret? If everyone harvested something worth a lot of money, there would be in influx of it on the market, which in turn would drop the value – ending their money making scheme.

Here’s a tip though, if you want money fast, buy gems and convert them into coin.

The first and last sentence contradict each other. Oh and since this is not real life and is a game, it is easy to make money and everyone can easily be rich. (there are many things that can prevent you from being rich in real life but in this game it is either because of time or laziness). Farm some dungeons or bosses, buy t6 mats with laurels and sell em, buy gems, and so on. Seems pretty easy to me :P

“Rich” is relevant to what everyone else has so it’s still impossible for everyone to be rich. The sentences don’t really don’t really contradict each other since gems->gold is converting real money to game money. It’s fast, but it isn’t easy since you need to put in real work to acquire said real money.

The first fee does an extra job of preventing people from using TP as storage.
Both fees do serve the purpose of “bleeding money out of the game” because they act as gold sinks to curb inflation.
The buyer pays part of the fee the same way we pay sales taxes; sellers just raise their prices to cover it.
Lastly, if you want some sort of lore reason, you’re paying the service fees because the BLTC is selling your items for you so you can adventure more, similar to how ebay charges fees.

The thing is, celestial stat gear just doesn’t pay out. It gives the same total stat bonus as other gear, but spread evenly, which is bad because you’d (for general purposes) want to put more points into the type of combat abilities you have need most. In terms of damage- the type you deal most, in terms of defenses, the place you’re naturally lacking most.
In short, unless your build generally uses everything the exact same amount, it’s better to have a different gear type.

In terms of traits, it’s be bad minor traits in fire and air that make the spread scheme really bad.

Though I’m okay with it already, here are some things that could help focus.

Freezing gust- an 120 radius aoe component like comet or just freeze 5 sec like someone else said.

Comet just needs to strike a bit faster imo since it will miss a running target, although if you chain it with freezing gust it usually hits. That or make it ground target.

Fire shield- How about just making it a bit more punishing? In addition to the fire aura effect, it also gives the user 5sec of retaliation.

Gale-40sec cd

Flamewall- This one I’m uncertain of. Maybe just double the damage and/or burn duration? Or make it a curtain skill and readjust it from there.

Thief or Elementalist?

in Elementalist

Navzar.2938

If you don’t like swapping elements, you don’t want to go as an elementalist seeing as many of us swap every few seconds :p Eles also have similar survivability issues at low levels until you can build for it with gear/attribute points, but they’re also better at kting since their melee is actually 300 range.
Overall in pve I’m not really sure what would be better. Eles have better team support and aoe damage while thieves are much more single target damage unless you go with a condition spec. If you do go with condition spec, then they’re decent good aoe as well, but I haven’t actually played thief very far in pve.
In the end I’d agree with the above suggestion of thief since eles really need to swap skill lets non stop.

I know it says 10% and its only 5%. I am sad and will continue to be sad if it stays at 5% but I will not be mad over it because the skill did get a buff. Before it used to be a 5% buff when within 50 range of your target and now it is within a 600 range so i am still glad at that.

The range was always 600, the description was just wrong. If it’s still 5%, that just means nothing changed.

Why is ascended gear unique? Any reason?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

^ Um those aren’t very unique either. Especially if you consider the shear number of those things that existed 250 years ago.
For your specific examples-

Gargoyles skull-, yeah They’re extinct, but they were killed in mass droves by adventurers and existed in groups. If you found one skull, you probably found multiple.
Signets- Everyone from that time had them, everyone. And skill trainers must have had multiple.
Arrowhead-Pyre fired many, many arrows multiple at the same targets and in the same area.
The only ones rare enough to fit your proposed reason are the ones tied to specific people (excluding family crests).
Some truly unique necklaces do exists though, but you can only use one necklace anyway, and still only a handful.

A Blast to the Past (GW1)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

On a somewhat offnote from the above discussions, I actually liked GW1’s style of graphics better (though they are kind of old and would need to be updated). GW2 has a really cartoony feel to it that makes everything feel a bit sillier. The effects just don’t seem as mesmerizing to me when they have a drawn look to them.

I love GW2’s more fluid casting system. It’s enough to keep me away from other MMOs that have to stop to cast skills.

GW1’s build system is something I also liked, although sometimes making builds took more time than player :p Once you had enough saved builds though, it let you switch around your character enough to keep things fresh. GW2 has the concept somewhat present in the trait system, although the weapon/utility skills keep combinations kind of low (I’m expecting more later on though) and it really needs a build saving feature.

Finally I liked that in GW1 I could play some challenging content that was still in short time spans. The problem with “casual” play is that everything is too easy, but “hardcore” stuff tends to take really long amounts of time. Most hard mode missions as well as some other challenging content in Guild Wars 1 can be completed in fairly low chunks of time if you don’t die, although this was more apparent near the end of it’s life with the guild wars beyond stuff. And if you didn’t want it to be hard? Just do the normal mode versions instead.

Oh and I can’t believe I almost forgot to add this. I loved how GW1 characters could get max level/gear in a very short time period. It made switching professions when you got bored of one or just needed something else for a missions very easy.

In the end though, I don’t play gw1 anymore mostly because I have to stop to use skills :p Even then I used a dervish half my skills were instant anyway.
