reason behind time gating quartz?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

Limit supply = protect economy

It also has the side effect of making people miserable, but alas…

Protect what economy, only the raw quartz is tradeable !
the charged quartz and the gear you can make is all account bound !

protect the economy my kitten !

this is a blatant bad attempt at making you take longer to acquire armor and weapons !

even than, this 1 per day is not so bad if you only play 1 character, but, it totally sucks big time if you dare play more than 1 character that needs/ wants this armor or weapons, that’s my real issue with this kitten 1 per day BS, it punishes you harshly for having multiple characters that you actually play

Because if there wasn’t a limit, then the price of raw quartz would soar. It doesn’t matter that only the raw is tradable. If there wasn’t a limit on making charged quartz, then it’d effectively be the same thing as charged quartz being tradable in addition to no longer being limited.

I’ve seen it happen multiple times. People get a high place in sanctum sprint, and then they just leave. I don’t get why they’re doing it, if they try to join a new game, they just get placed as a late start into a different game don’t they? It also makes the current game take longer to finish since someone else is put in as a late start here, so I don’t see any benefit to doing this?

Gems too expensive

Extra space is still a luxury. For inventory, four 15 slot bags is cheap at around 2.6g~3g and will give you a total of 80. For banking, you just need to stop hoarding things. For example, you don’t really need to hold onto all of those event items.

For chefs, just don’t create tons of intermediate ingredients at once. Only make what you’ll actually be using.

You can also just make yourself a personal guild or two (up to four if you only rep one guild) for cheap storage on non account bound items. The first 50 slots in each guild only costs 5g if you purchase the influence with gold.

Finally, if you do buy more inventory space with gems, get another character slot instead of a bank tab. At the current ~100gems/3.25g, and using the 15 slot bags as mentioned above, that’s 80 slots of storage for 29 gold.

^Free things that they paid and played for.

Anyway, it’s 3 points just for connecting the accounts I think, so you can probably get a cheap campaign+eotn bundle and get to lvl 10 to access the monument. Then just spend a bit of money for the cheapest rare mini and put it in. That or get to ~ lvl 15, death level a pet to lvl 20 and spend around 10platinum on a hero armor. Either way you’ll be at 5 points, enough for the armor set without the helm in a few hours.

Back when silk was cheap and gossamer was expensive, you could get maybe 10~20s a skill point at times (buying silk on buy orders and selling gossamer on sell orders of course, fluctuates with luck and maret), but that was when relatively few people knew about converting materials with TP, and it still took decent monetary investment.

So I wouldn’t ever expect more than 20s a skill point so for larger investments of skillpoints/money. 10s for something small like upgrading siege seems about right to me.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Navzar.2938

Is it a different game? Yes. Does that mean it doesn’t matter? No, because Eye of the North was sold was specifically marketed with the transference of accomplishments to gw2 thing as a selling point. The arguing here is partially because you’re saying stuff in gw1 doesn’t matter despite that, and mostly because it just sounds like complaining over someone receiving a gift you didn’t. Honestly, I doubt any GW1 player actually cares about the points on the leaderboards.

If it really matters to you, there’s a simple solution. They keep the points, but they won’t contribute to leaderboards. They’ll just move them up a level for in game rewards.

Yep, I thought sustain meant survivability, since that’s what I’ve seen it refer to (ex. wars complaining about not having enough sustain because they can’t heal/cleanse well.)
I refer to sustained damage as dps, since dps is a measurement of your average damage, or sometimes as pressure and burst as burst.
So I was a little confused there. Anyway, even for damage I’d probably just put the extra points into air magic instead and then use a Valk to make up for the power, but I’m probably just biased against the fire line.

“GW2 is a separate game. You paid a separate fee. It came on a separate disc and/or download. The title itself is different.”

This is actually true for each guild wars 1 campaign :p

Anyway, I think devs did this because they wanted gw1 players to be able to take something with them. They originally planned an expansion, decided to make a new game instead because of limitations. Rather than being like, guess what everything you did now disappears, they let them earn something out of it, that was one of the big points they pushed while selling eye of the north.

Is it “fair”? Maybe not, but why does it matter so much? It isn’t competitive, and anet wanted to reward loyalty. Is it fair if an employee gets a raise or benefit for being with the company longer?

I’ve run into this before during the sanctum sprint. Spamming the lightning skill too quickly seems cause this and I don’t run into it if I actually wait to land before hitting the key again. Basically you can’t chain jumps back to back with no time in between without dying after the 3rd or 4th time.

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

The way I see it, you don’t get anything extra depending on your ranking, so there’s not much point in being competitive. If you already have first, then it’s nice to stand by the finish line so someone else can get their achievement.
Of course no one could force you to, and if they’re taunting you I’d probably do the same thing and keep winning just to stick to them.

Of course if others beat you and are waiting, then you shouldn’t be taking first place if you don’t need it, but I’m guessing that wasn’t the case.

Nothing good in fire tbh. Earth 15 also isn’t much good. So I’d take out the 15 points in fire and put them into earth, water or arcana. If you didn’t spec extra into earth, may as well take 5 points out of that as well.

The place to put them will depend on what weapons/utilities you like to use.

For a balanced build, I went with 0/15/10/15/30, although it’s really just a rehashed version of what’s already in use.

This build(0/15/10/15/30) I have actually switched to from 10/10/10/10/30 and it has worked much better than my original build. The dps is actually more and the sustain is better.

Really, how so? I wasn’t aware fire could give any sustain.

The swiftness redundancies aren’t too bad since, as you said, they allow high to constant upkeep when used together, thus actually giving you a reason to use them in conjunction. That being said, aoe swiftness on blast is still a weak finish.

I completely agree on how worthless the +movement speed traits are though. On top of not stacking, they’re also very pathetic without swiftness as well. Ai/lightning is supposed to precise and hard hitting, so the critical side of things could certainly use some more attention.

I also don’t think we’d get greatswords because our elite skill and it’s skin as a weapon could cause confusion easily.

I think 1h sword and mace are decent candidates for melee weapons (mace mainly because its very unused). Sword could actually give us a single target damage set, which eles currently lack.

I also love the above idea of mage with a gun, so much lulz there. Rifle could give the “traditional” long range damage option, and pistols would be more of a mid range weapon, but with faster activations, as opposed to scepter with it’s slow hard hitters.

Before you stop, please tell me what in my example that you think is wrong? Oh and also, one more thing I agree with you that NO ONE will ever be able to defeat Lv 52 Jade Maw because it it NOT exist.

The right answer was warriors and guardians btw, not warriors and thieves. OP and UP do exist in PvE, and the high demand for these two classes show that.

The reason a lvl52 jade maw would be impossible to kill is because the agony is unavoidable and 1 shots anybody because there isn’t enough AR available.

Basically what Lord is saying is that PvE can have some insanely high thresholds in some areas that make it impossible or nearly impossible to win. So while PvP may be more intricate, it’s still easier than said pve areas because there’s actually a reasonable chance at winning.

Suggestions for improving/fixing eles

in Elementalist

Navzar.2938

I might contribute more later, but for now I’ll just some small things on my mind.

1) Remove the countdown thing off of summoning glyphs and increase the cd by 60sec. This is important because that countdown duration prevents them from receiving the full benefit of quick glyphs.
In addition, make it a them have a chain skill which activates the elemental’s aoe effect.

2) Since I really doubt devs will be giving eles back any mobility with ride the lightning, how about buffing the skill’kitten effect? They want us to use it to attack things, so just add some more incentive like increased damage, blind, or a decent amount of vulnerability stacks.

3) Rework Glyph of Elemental Power, since it’s a weird skill for stun breaking. Maybe make it work similarly to venom skills or like avatar of grenth for a short duration.

To my knowledge, that is incorrect. You can buy ascended jewellery with laurels, but those won’t give you agony resistance and so they’re useless in higher fractals.

Infusions that give +agony resistance can only be obtained by using fractal tokens.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Infusion

That is incorrect also. Infusions can be made in Mystic Forge.

In order to infuse in the MF you need Vials/globe from Fractals, so the point is still there.

No, you don’t. You need 20 mystic coins, 5 skills points, and matertials.

It’s not mostly luck. I mean yeah, it’s a lot about chances and such, but you can skew the odds in you’re favor well enough that you can score in the top positions fairly often, kind of like counting cards does.

If you don’t have latency/glitches and know what to do+shortcuts and alternate paths, you can get first after a few games provided you 1)get an early leadand 2) don’t fall (since aggressive paths are faster).

That being said, I play on Sanctum of Rall, and I saw waiting by the finish line for those who need first to be fairly common here.

Celestial Ele Build

in Elementalist

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

From previous mmo experiences I have learnt you have to specialize in one main area as a start to be great at pve and pvp.. Whether that is dps/burst/heals or tank is up to the player to decide.. Being hybrid in all areas won’t take you too far specially when facing against a player that does focus on one of these attributes. in Gw2, I find it best to concentrate from two to three main attributes while the rest to be moderate and low in value. For example my Ele is high in power, precision and critical damage, moderate in Hp and armor and mediocre at the rest. My main area of focus is BURST.

This actually false. It’s a matter of whether the build can do both at the same time, or if it can do both, but only one at a time. If it’s both at the same time, it will work, if it’s one or the other, it will fail. Being able to do both at the same time is fairly rare though, but it’s more common in MMOs that either have instant activation/multipurpose skills. Diminishing returns on speccing into one attribute (not present) and weird aggro system (present) also helps since a high def+ healer always has synergy.

Navzar.2938

I remember reading a few joking comments about Izzy’s “ideal” 15/15/15/15/10 ele build and how eles are best fit to use everything, so for fun I tried making the most balanced, but still decent, ele build I could some days ago. With the coming of celestial gear for pve, I figured I’d post for no particular reason.

I ended up going with this.

Equipment:
Dagger/Focus
Celestial Amulet, Valkyrie gemstone
2 Runes of the Monk
2 Runes of Water
2 Runes of Divinity

Stats:
Power-1356
Precision-1381
Tough-1406
Vitality-1381
CDamage-415
Boon-50%
Crit damage-39

Traits:
15 air- Zephyr’s Boon
10 earth- Elemental Shielding (stone splinters now that it’s fixed)
15 water-Cleansing Wave
30 arcana-Elemental Attunement, vigorous renewal, evasive arcana (just a staple EA roller)

Utility: Signet of Air, Armor of Earth, X, Fiery Greatsword (for use near walls)
“You’ll be sort of good at everything, but not great at anything, which is an ele personified”- Master Blixx

It was only made out of boredom, idk how good it’d be for serious pvp, but it should be okay seeing as it’s just the popular traits put together again. Does anyone else have a decent build that better achieves this aspiration towards balance? After all, if you play the way anet wants you to, you’ll never be nerfed* :p

‘’ITS NOT FAIIRRRR. HE CAN BUY LOW AND SELL HIGH.’’

Heaven forbid players want to be on equal chance at the loot…/sigh Someone needs a hug!

It’s not unfair or unequal that some people are more diligent in their reading of forums and other websites and have an excessive amount of time to dedicate to the game… I missed out on this as well being at work yesterday (actually missed out on a lot of profit the last 4-5 patches because of being at work) but that’s my fault for having a life outside the game… had I not.. I would be richer.. but instead I’m richer IRL and can buy REAL things… and that in the end is much more rewarding than making a couple gold in game by gluing myself to the screen all day and night.

He’s talking about the media/wiki players who have the preview access and can actually go to those areas first, even before that little preview was released on Dulfy. They’re the ones who get all of that info first, and they most certainly to act on it even if they can’t disclose info.

Of course that’s a small number of people so is it really a big deal? Eh maybe to some people it is.

celestial VS ascended type stats question

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

The new celestial gear is exotic, so I don’t understand why it would have a % stat increase or anything like that, or what you even mean by that. So the armor is just like other exotic armor, but with a different stat scheme/look.

If you compare the base stats and exclude any upgrades, ascended gear is roughly 175% the strength of basic white gear, whereas exotic is 165%.

If you want an idea of how strong they’ll be, then celestial trinkets seem to give roughly 43~45% of the primary stat bonus to all stats, so I’m guestimating that a full armor set will give 135~140 to all stats and ~10 crit damage

Guide To Dedicated Healing

in Elementalist

Posted by: Navzar.2938

Navzar.2938

First of all, rune of dwayna gives regen, not healing on use of heal skill. If you really want healing, I’d suggest rune of water for the same healing power, but boon duration 15% instead and remove a condition on being hit rather than getting regen. Boon duration is better than regen specific anyway because of the large amount of boons ele gives.

As for the dedicated healer thing, maybe what Strang’s was talking about. You can think dedicated support, but that’s more than healing. It’s also might stacking, protection, crowd control, etc, so you should spec to do these things all around. I think you already understand this to an extent though, it’s just that you seem to focus far more on the healing part of it when you talk about it.

As for your sigil, sigil of battle is decent so you can do some moderate damage and for wvw an on kill effect sigil is worth considering as well, such as stamina for more EA rolls since you’ll be tagging enemies easily for loads of kills and maybe sigil of life for even more heals (and then switching to a different staff).

In the end though (and you even said it yourself) it’s just the cookie cutter build that’s been around for ages :p

GW2 1st Year Anniversary! B-day gifts?

“If everyone has one, how can they be valuable?”

Well to start off, not everyone has one. Only players around from launch would be able to get them.
Second, it’s only one per character, and people love to collect things.
Third, it’s a new item, so people will be crazy about it for the first week or so.
Fourth, it takes an entire year to get that item for a character.

Basically what he was asking for was something with the same effect as GW1 birthday presents, which where one per character (on a characters birthday, not gw anniversary), trade-able, and valuable.

Of course after one or two more years the white and blue rarity year one minis (what the gw1 presents gave) weren’t worth much anymore, but there were new minis to focus on then.
