Life steal on Fire or Air trait can be useful to increase survivability.

To increase survivability on non bunkers. Just felt it was important to point that out :p. Of course it would have to be a master level so it would require a fair amount of points specced in to prevent people from trying to use it on a bunker anyway.

I think persistent flames should be fixed so it actually works on all fire fields, and that fire shield should work on ranged attacks as well. I agree with Arheundel’s zephyr’s speed and windborne speed ideas. Reduce stun/daze duration is also an interesting idea on one with air, but maybe instead of the movement speed.

That or decrease the time it takes to reach 25% speed buff with it, maybe 5% every 2 seconds?
Or maybe +1% movement speed while using swiftness every x seconds for up to 5%. That way it’s a stackable buff like rune of speed.
Let’s be honest, speed buff traits are pretty useless as they are with all of the swiftness we have.

I feel like increasing RTL cooldown will just make travel more annoying. I usually lose people before it cools down anyway, unless they really want me dead.

I’m personally and expecting hoping not much happens, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they slapped some mild to strong nerfs on us again.

As far as conditions go, you should use them right after the ele swaps out of water. That way it would have to use a utility or wait 9~11 sec to swap back.

If you’re talking about two eles working together, then I feel it’s because most players don’t focus on team work builds the way people used to do so in gw1. Being stronger in groups than the total individual powers isn’t unique to eles, it’s something that can be applied to all aoe support/buff builds.

Although it’s nothing revolutionary, the basics help a lot in countering eles.
It also helps that a large portion of d/deles also opens the with the same exact combo, air 4,5>fire 3,5,4> earth 4,5 lightning flash.

You acutally don’t have to move out of melee range for shocking aura. As long as the skill range is higher than 600, shocking aura won’t activate even if you’re right next to the ele.

I think by mail box, he meant the pick up tab, since that pretty much works the same way. Anyway, you may have tried to buy more than was available at that price. Try checking the Items I’m Buying tab to see if you have an order up for the remaining dyes.

Though I fon’t have a much of an opinion on whether TW is OP or not, I’d like to drop back in to mention that confusion/retaliation isn’t really a counter to quickness. It’s practically the same as using it when the enemy doesn’t have quickness, but with double duration. So while it’s a better time to use it, it’s definitely not stopping them. Plus they can still easily toss in a skill to remove it.

I do agree the crafting system could be better. I feel it should be more interactive instead of just clicking and watching a bar fill up. As for the leveling, I don’t think its too easy. At the pace it’s at now, you can just play the game normally and your level keeps up. You don’t have to stop progressing just so you can level up, which I feel is how it should be if its targeting a casual audience. Besides, I feel like level isn’t supposed to be an important factor, just something in place so you can’t skip to Orr right away.

Zephyr’s boon always gave twice as much swiftness/fury for shocking aura as it did for frost/fire/magnetic. This is presumably because it’s an air trait and our trait lines tend to favor whatever attunement they match.

IMO, time warp is how elite skills should be. It actually fits that description of game changing skill that they were meant to be, rather being like the majority of elites which people would trade for a utility. So yeah, I think other elites should just be buffed. Or people really think its that much of a problem, maybe add an interesting negative effect to time warp, like a ~2second stack of confusion every second.

No full plan in mind, but I’ll throw in some ideas. Maybe instead of creating individual pieces, the whole set could be created at once? You know, like the armor boxes. I feel that way it wouldn’t damage the material market as badly, and the gaudy problem could be better accounted for as designers make the set as a whole. It’d probably just end up looking awesome and having some time of subtle aura like particle effect (not like the ele auras).

Two or three of each armor type could be implemented, and an epic scavenger hunt to acquire all of the pieces throughout Tyria (and maybe Cantha and Elona as well, since something like this would be in the distant future). There’d also be extremely difficult dungeons you have to beat to gather the powerful magic enchantments of various aspects of nature in the temple at the end (not an actual stat effects of course, just the cool effects type). This could just be elite versions of existing dungeons so we can get some new content for everybody, but you can only enter them after having complete all the paths and maybe paying a dungeon gift as a one time entrance fee. Eventually you’d have to travel to the hall of heroes in the mists once you’ve put together your armor set and have had it enchanted at each of the 8 temples.

You’d also need stuff for each enchantment, which would probably be materials you get can buy from TP since our devs love gold sinks :p but not as much as than you would for legendary weapons.

Obviously just a major grind fest so someone can show off how they have no life XD

It’s because this game was specifically advertised in their concept videos as not having a gear grind or adding stronger gear. Of course, design philosophies do change, that’s not too surprising.

Yeah it would suck even more to have people log out, but that’s why other games use a timer- it’d still solve the issue. How exactly do people exploit a log out timer?

WvW is the most d/c heavy area in the game (at least for me), and people are punished for it. A 10second log out timer would do the same job of stopping people from closing the client if they’re about to die in combat, but if they d/c or log out in a situation when they wouldn’t die, then there won’t be an extra penalty on top of having to queue up again and having to walk back. It’s stupid that you’ll get killed if you d/c while attacking a door with 50 people v 5, or storming a supply camp. I understand its only around 3s for warp and repair, but its just the concept of undeserved punishment that’s annoying. Log out timers have always worked fine in other games, so I don’t see why it wouldn’t be a better solution here either.

…Besides, I d/c and die as often as I die in combat (maybe once a night for each), so it practically doubles my losses :p

Since the thread about thieves not being fun to fight was closed and the mod linked us to here, I’ll go ahead and toss in the main idea of that thread.

It’s not that thieves are OP, it’s just that they aren’t fun to fight against. That’s why people complain. Of course that’s not true for everybody, but I think it’s true to enough people that it generates a decent amount of dislike for thieves.

I for one agree with him, people just don’t have have fighting thieves. Not fun=qq, which I think is valid considering this is a game, making fun the main purpose/goal.

They’re not overpowered, they’re just annoying to fight. As far as nerfs go, I don’t think it would be justified to nerf a class because of wvw culling.

ITT: People who want everything handed to them with no effort at all.

Buying gold takes effort folks. You’ve heard it here.

The sooner players like you realize that players like me want longer quest chains requiring more effort than just farming or buying gold, the sooner we can move past silly comments like the above.

The fact that players had legendaries in the first month speaks volumes as to how ridiculous and unlegendary the entire process is.

It took me 4 months of legit play to finish my legendary. Farming gold is not legendary. I’m sorry, it’s not. Any system that allows a player to buy their way to the top, be it cosmetic or not, is terrible.

Right, let’s give everyone one long quest to get their legendary so that everyone will run around with one.

If the quest was extremely challenging and took a long time to complete, then there would be a very small amount of people with them. If would just mean the ones with them are the people with a lot of skill/luck/good team mates rather than the ones with a lot of money. Besides the way it is now, anyone can get one if they just play long enough and store the gold/mats.

I use that same build as the OP except I use renewing stamina instead of windborne dagger, and swap out the a water skill depending on whether I’m soloing or in a group. If I’m soloing, its cleansing water instead of powerful aura, and if I’m in a group its cleansing wave instead of soothing disruption.

I use it with soldier’s gear in both pvp and pve, and I find it works well in both situations, although I mix in some knights/berserker in pve.

The more you cast it, the more meteors drop. This is especially easy to see if you stop the cast very early on, in which case you’ll only get a few measly meteors a second.

Shocking aura is 10sec boons, other auras are 5. The trait description never mentioned how long the boons last for, and its been like this since launch, so I assumed that it was intended to give the air element aura more boon time this because zephyr’s is in the air trait line. Of course the situation was the same with evasive arcana, so I could be completely wrong. But yeah, its always been like this, nothing new.

Someone above already said it. It’s because people running a dungeon often fill their bag and put it up on TP at 1c above merchant value. Yes, with taxes it falls below merch value, but selling them at 85% merch value is still better than not picking stuff up because you don’t have the space. Consider it a convenience tax for not running to an actual merchant.

I think it would help if Anet just reduce the tax on selling gems. You currently get around 70% of the buying value, so I feel something closer to 85-90% would encourage more gem to gold conversion, thus lowering the price to buy them.

Do you think putrid essence will every be worth anything? It’s a T5 rare mat, and yet its going for 50~60c, making it the blacksheep of rare mats. Compare that too all other T5 rare materials, lodestones, that go from 40s to 3.7g. Of course its because they’re used to make gifts or awesome looking weapons while essence is only good for runes. The question is, do you think there’s a good chance it will be used for a good recipe or semi uber weapon like the other t5 mats in the future?

I’m asking because I’m looking for a risky long term investment, and this is a rare yet cheap (near useless) material, and because I’m just curious about the future of this odd material.

Earlier today I wanted to do fractiles, but there was no one doing my level on my server. It was late in Europe, so there weren’t many people on. So I figured, “No problem, I’ll just use gw2lfg.com and I can just right click join in overflow to be with the party.” Well apparently, that isn’t the case because a player on a European server can’t join a player on an American server. The join overflow option takes you to a different overflow. I can’t really see the reasoning behind this though, why are European servers separated from U.S. ones? The physical servers are in the same place, so it’s not a lag/latency issue (I actually live in the U.S. despite being on a EU server), so I don’t really see any reason to prevent players on U.S. and players on EU servers from playing with each other. Wouldn’t it be better if people could just play together? It is an MMO after all.

In zergs, KS is better because it can pierce and the bullet will the completely lost in the particle effects. For roaming, I’d say BS is better because it is much faster to execute and slightly harder to avoid than KS in a small engagement. My only problem was with the “KS is faster” nonsense. And for the record, I have used both builds.

I don’t see why people want pre defined roles. Getting rid of holy trinity just to create a new similar system seems kind of pointless to me and I feel build choices are much more free because many traits don’t point to a certain role (though they do point to a playstyle fairly often). I do understand that the system can make it hard to inform a pug what you’re running though.
I definitely agree that DEs don’t replace quests. While they are fun and add to the game, they don’t really make up for the storyline that makes many side quests fun, and the main story line is too weak to do that and I have to start a new character if I want to explore the other storylines… but I never really expected much from GW main storylines tbh.

Watch your combat log, auto chains, and on-hit procs.. People effective at combating stealthed opponents already know when they’re hitting.

Ah thank you. I don’t have auto chains or on hit procs, but the combat log should be fine. I usually keep it off because it really floods chat in wvw, but I guess I can keep it on when I’m roaming.

Who exactly are you talking to? Did I ever say they were good, or say anything about their viability at all? No, I just called out your ridiculous claim about how long it takes to execute them. Things like positioning, you should be doing before the battle starts. Getting close? That’s hardly a problem. If you want to count things like that, you may as well count building adrenaline in the execution time, including any skill you use to do it and bullet travel time. If you’re talking about getting behind the enemy because you attacked from in front for some reason, all you have to do is walk through their avatar, which can indeed take up to 1/4sec.

Besides, as far as balance goes, WvW isn’t really the place to look at it since there’s such a large level and gear discrepancy and you can use temporary effects like food and boosters, you can produce some really high numbers.

Because I play a more defensive build, thieves aren’t a big problem for me. From my pov, they’re not OP (though they are on the strong side in bursting), its just that their stealth ability is annoying. Not being able to see an enemy in a flat field and not knowing whether your attacks are hitting or not just makes you feel stupid as you swing in the air hoping you’re swinging in the right direction, and 2/3 of the time it turns out they went the other way and there’s already a 1000 gap between you two.
Basically, just give us damage numbers when we actually hit them. I mean even if they’re invisible, we’d still be able to feel if we whacked them you know? Or maybe make their avatar flicker (although I feel this wouldn’t work because of culling), or some other small hit effect.

Actually, necros are one of the better classes for taking down tanks thanks to their strong boon teardowns, so don’t feel too bad about that.

I always carry a focus on me, the defensive abilities are great. The biggest reasons I use it more often is because its not as nearly mobile as having RTL, and I don’t feel like it has as much synergy with the mainhand weapons for some reason. As far as dungeons bosses go, its pretty epic, worth it just for the defensive skills. But yeah, it could use a small buff to fire, maybe a reduction to fire aura recharge, or buffing its duration so it’s closer with other auras in terms of upkeep ability (16-17.5% for the others, compared to 7.5% on fire aura.)

Kill shot is 2 times faster than BS combo and even faster using quickness and its duable from 1200

First of all, both classes have access to quickness for their burst, so that doesn’t even matter. And where are you getting you’re crazy numbers with back stab combo taking twice as long? Kill shot= 1.75sec
Backstab=.25sec Cloak and dagger=.5sec
Last I checked .75<1.75
So backstab is 2.33 times faster than killshot, and even faster using quickness (see what I did there?), and there’s no projectile time making it harder to dodge.

The rise in gem prices is pretty much guaranteed though. As more gem items/events keep coming out and the average player gets richer, the demand for it will keep going up, so the price will too. It will probably plateau eventually, but that might take a while. Plus afaik it was like that in other games that allowed this sort of gold conversion, mostly because gems rise with the economy.

I’m only lvl 6 fractiles, but for the once I’ve done as well as dungeons I used d/d with aura sharing. I feel like perma swift/fury/protection is very helpful for a party and the dps and survivability is still good, so I don’t see why it would have problems later on.

Exotic armor is, for right now, the best armor you can get. So what game are you talking about where $15 can buy you a full set of the best gear in game?

Except we already know that ascended armor is in the near future, and that it is to remain as the best armor. Exotic is just a place holderand was never planned to be best. Besides full exotic armor is only around 18g, or 30ishg if you include decent runes so gem prices would only have to increase by about 75% to meet that second number.
