Hello ANet and fellow players…

Just here wondering if there’s going to be any implementation of some sort of Festival Hat Keeper and Costume Keeper or an account wide bank tab that allows you to store your hats and costumes? As it is they’re taking up lots of valuable inventory space and I do not wish to delete them

I’m hoping you guys have been considering something along these lines and could potentially give a red post confirming yay or nay?

You do realize that based on the description posting, the culmination of the event is a one time event kick off on Sunday ?
And the Mad King erupting through to Lion’s Arch was also “just a kick off” but it was pretty darn cool and to miss it was tragic

Here’s the excerpt from the announcement

“The event will culminate in a big Finale on Sunday November 18, make sure you will not miss it. This will be a onetime only event chain that will run multiple hours, and it will kick off at noon PST (20:00 GMT). Again, this will only run once, so make sure you will be there! "

Bolded relevent part. Yes it’s one time but it’s not like the Mad King (and even then, the Mad King still popped up periodically through the portal to do the same spiel, you just didn’t get the whole cut scene portion).

The fire elemental is far too hard even for most level 80s.

Now what are you going to do if you’re a level 15 character that hasn’t even unlocked your final utility slot and probably don’t have a stun break with what limited skill points you have?

It’s not too hard…. I beat it between the lvl’s of 15-25. Refer to my above post as to the strategy best used against him.

He really isn’t that difficult once you get everyone on the same page… I’ve beaten him maybe 8-10 times since release and haven’t had any problems once I got people listening to me and understanding what to do. The biggest thing is keep moving. Don’t stop just continuously circle around him while paying attention the aoe on the ground. If one direction seems like aoe is just littering the floor and there’s no path to get through, switch directions but keep circling.

If everyone is doing this and just concentrating on hitting the boss while ignoring the embers, he goes down quickly. It’s just getting everyone to stop crying for res and tell them to wait on the bridge (outside aggro) then once a good amount are gathered, charge in, target boss and circle.

Crap. Well, I loved the entire event and the huge update to the game with the Halloween thing so kudos to you ArenaNet, but congrats on shafting the woking people.. kitten We’ll probably just be able to buy the hat for gems before the event is over….

It’s not shafting the working people…. it’s been running since yesterday since noon every 30-60min for 24h…. How is that shafting people who work?

We want to give you a heads up about Phase 4 of the Halloween event. Phase 4 will start at 9:00 AM PDT/16:00 GMT on October 31, and will run until we publish a new build on November 1 (which will be sometime after Noon PDT/19:00 GMT).
Once Phase 4 starts, the Ascent to Madness dungeon will no longer be available – but you will still be able to enter the Mad King’s realm, including the Labyrinth, the Clocktower, Reaper’s Rumble and Lunatic Inquisition.
Also make sure that you will “Attend the Party” in Lion’s Arch once Phase 4 starts, and do not worry: It is a non-stop party, so swing by any time you want!

Also in game mail stating that it was open* and that it was running for a limited time. As well as the multiple social outlets that they announced all the information on. I also have a life and was able to hop on and do the 10min run. Stop kittening people. Also, you could have asked about it in LA. Guaranteed people would have told you.

It’s not a bug… they removed it from the achievement because of the difficulty of the Clocktower. The Clocktower was designed with the though of only 5% of the people trying it would make it, and so decided to remove this achievement from the batch needed to get Emissary. I agree with their decision to do so as they wanted emissary to be something everyone could achieve. Also, the pumpkin carving one is the only true grind (but it doesn’t count towards the title either anyways). You can buy the ToT bags you need, as it’s fairly cheap to do so.

Not just personalized ones drop the tonic…. just so you know. Easier to farm normal ones then the personalized (for me anyway).

It’s upset at the moment… And I’m assuming the “one time event” was the cut scene, and that the dungeon is going to stick around since it’s Act III

The only thing that matters to me is if the event that starts Act 3 is required for the title. If it’s just for show or you get an item or whatever, it’s not that important. But if it blocks progress for the event title, I have no reason to play the rest of the halloween event.

This does not go toward the title. Everyone’s guess is this is just for show and there will most likely not even be an item associated with it.

Anything in the Mad King Realm as you get upscaled to 80 (just have to be careful because your armour doesn’t) as well as the complete scavenger hunt (Act I and Act II). I only lvl 42 and have yet to come across something Halloween related I haven’t been able to finish. (The last part of the scavenger hunt was a little difficult. Just have to wait a bit for higher lvl’ed people to clear out the room and just follow them in at that point).

If the debvs do something as drastic as making it a one time event for ALL timezones to share, than it must be something they consider pretty darn awesome to see.
In terms of enjoying this game and the event, it sounds like the end of the world to miss it.

You might be right that it might be blown out of proportion, but it’s the dev’s themselves that are doing the blowing here.
All the players are doing is believing it’s going to be as awesome as the devs claim, so they don’t want to miss it.

Lot’s of kittening isn’t going to do anything to help except aggravate others. I still don’t think it’s going to be that big of a deal honestly. People are getting all out of whack over pixels. I’ll tell you what, I even understand when people complained about the BLC because a lot spent real money on it. This is totally different and doesn’t effect yourself or your wallet for anything.

Like I said, this is most likely going to be something that would be ridiculous to try repeating and so they went with the next best thing which happened to be choosing a date and time when there were the most concurrent players on.

I might not completely agree on what you say here, but I find it much more reasonable than your original post.

Yeah I agree…. I’m not normally one to cap like that. Just frustration bubbling to the top. And same to you, I might not agree, but I do see where you’re coming from.
In any case I hope that the event is something really unimportant/fluffy so even the people who missed it will feel ok.

You don’t have to go into the mini-dungeon for the book? Unless that place in Fort Cadence is the mini dungeon….. Other that that, I doubt the Mad King’s Realm is staying. Lore wise it wouldn’t make sense to stay. The mini dungeon they did release is staying though, since it’s not really part of the Halloween event.

It’s really starting to get annoying that some people are trying to validate the cash shop by comparing it to a casino or lotto tickets.
Yes, we all know casino’s have games of chances, we all know that lotto is a game of chance. And we all know buying BLC keys are a game of chance.
But is everyone missing the point?
This is a video game with a PEGI rating of 12, and an ESRB rating of T, “real money” gambling should not be encouraged in a game with these ratings.

“Titles in this category may contain violence, suggestive themes, crude humor, blood, simulated gambling, and/or frequent use of vulgar language.”

This is the official stance on titles with these ratings, the key here is “Simulated gambling”, a substantial portion of people buying these keys were buying them for the chance of a skin, and probably wouldnt be interested in buying the keys for any other reason, this is an encouragement to “real money” gamble in a game that is not ESRB or PEGI rated to reflect this.

I understand why people are getting angry at the whining about feeling ripped off, but i also have sympathy for these people. It essentially wrong for “real money” gambling to be in a game of this nature, and attacking people who feel ripped off serves no purpose. People have a right to be feeling upset over something that should not be in the game. Keep the gambling to “simulated ingame gambling”, this game is wildly and legally available to 12 year olds here in the UK, did PEGI or ESRB realise real money gambling would be involved when ratings were given?

The odds of receiving a skin were never given, although I suspect most people knew the odds were fairly low, but there was a lot of people parting with hard earned cash without having the fullest comprehension how much of a gamble this would be.

So please folks, if people are feeling ripped off and need to have a rant and a moan, let them, don’t flame and attack them. At end of the day they were duped out of their money as no information from ANET of how much of a gamble this would be.

The difference with Lotto, Casinos, Horse Racing tracks, are that they are regulated, and are obliged to provide the odd’s and probabilties, and also age restrictions. So comparing GW2 to these is way off the mark.

This is a game available for purchase from 12 year olds, that encourages real money gambling with no regulation and no information on odds. People have the right to moan.

I been a long-term Anet supporter, and have backed them verbally and also with purchases for years now, and I will probably continue to back them. But no more with my money as I cannot support this philosophy they have introduced into the cash shop.

And I would suggest those that are angry and upset at feeling ripped off to lock their wallets up too as at the end of the day this is a game for entertainment purposes, and if being ripped off is souring your experiencing so badly, then do what I am doing, spend money elsewhere.

The game is supported by people spending in the cash shop, flaming and attacking people who are pumping money into the cash shop is not constructive. So when someone is ranting about feeling ripped off, give them a bit of support rather than attack, as this game will only survive as long as people are spending.

I have yet to see someone compare the whole of the gem shop to gambling, the lottery…. Only the Black Lion chests, which some people payed real money to obtain keys but was not the only method of obtaining keys. The gamble is using the virtual keys to open the virtual chest which is indeed “simulated gambling”. I had 5 keys drop over the entirety of this event. Haven’t had to buy keys yet and wouldn’t even if I had had no keys drop because I know they DO drop. So instead, I farm for them and at the same time get to experience the rest that Halloween has to offer.

Have you checked Queensdale? Genderren fields seems to be touchy about when portals are open, but I have always seen them in Queensdale.

Guys, this was already cleared up if you have been paying attention. A tweet was posted that said they moved the finale to the 28th however a dev posted on the forum thread that was talking about how its not fair if its the finale correcting that the tweet was a mistake, it IS NOT the finale but a special one time event.

Perhaps not, but it makes it something that is not the end of the world. It’s most likely something that alters the complete look of LA and would just be silly repeating… I honestly think it’s a short 5min thing that people are just blowing out or proportion.

And PST has always been the time…. I know the I’m PST + 3 which is how I calculate anytime there is event going on. So for my region is starts at 3pm

Just wanted to clear this up. I keep seeing tons and tons of threads talking about the one time event being the finale. This is NOT the finale. In my opinion, it’s going to be some 5-10min cut scene type of thing showing the fountain in LA finally busting open. It’s not going to have rewards or anything of the sort and it’s going to be one of those “Well that was cool, but no big deal if I would have missed it” type of events. If it turns out to be something more than this, feel free to resume the complaint threads. Until then, relax, enjoy and remember to breathe.

I think most people are over reacting in that it’s probably going to be some 5-10min thing that has no rewards or special anythings other then being there to witness it. I’m guessing it’s the whole Lion in LA going Kaboom to admit Mad King…. It’s not like this is the finale…. Everyone is getting their panties in a knot over something that hasn’t happened and that we have absolutely no idea about. For all anyone knows it’ll be a “well that was cool but really wouldn’t have mattered if I was here or not”.

I read somewhere that Act II will implement without needing to be patched! Just so you guys know. It should be starting in just under 7min.

Ah yes I forgot about the book pages. But if you’re in LA already for the festivities… it’s not a big leap to go to Divinities :P It’s not like Divinities got overhauled along with LA and the other cities didn’t.

Like others have said, Halloween is tied to humans through the first Guild Wars… But they’ve based in Lion’s Arch which is the multicultural hub of every race. For whoever said that they have to go through multiple portals to get to the festivities… so do humans. Lion’s Arch can only be reached through the Asura Gates. The only thing that’s exclusive to the human areas are the haunted doors.

Worst options? For who exactly? Personally, I couldn’t care less about people putting it up on YouTube: although I watch YouTube quite often I can easily avoid seeing something on YouTube. Not seeing something on YouTube is in fact a lot easier than actually seeing something on YouTube: you simply don’t watch something on YouTube.

However it’s still a prime time for EU players as well…. So I don’t get why this kittening is still going on. I’d much prefer to have evening events then mid-day events, it’s easier to attend in the evening when the day is running down, then smack dab in the middle.

Costume Brawl grants you a title yes, but it’s more of a treat for people who are in towns (or even in the world) waiting around. Just pop a costume on and start brawling.

Costume brawl does not give you a title it is in the community section of achievements so it doesn’t effect the Emissary of the Mad King title and it doesn’t have a crown beside the achievement so no title. It would be a good idea to get your facts right before posting instead of speading rumors.

Sorry… grants you an achievement*… No need to be so brash. Everything else I stated was true, and made one mistake when I glanced at the achievement while writing this…

It’s random. In large groups I’ve been at doors that lasted 3-4min and everyone was able to open the door twice yielding quite a few ToT bags, and I’ve been to doors (with the same group) that have lasted long enough for 1 or 2 people to open them. How long the doors stay are impossible to predict or influence.

The doors are NOT on a timer based on players around them, they are totally random spawn times that are completely their own. I’ve been with a group of 30 people and it hasn’t influenced how long to doors stay, not one iota.

@Cerise really? Another jab to the BLC… Not needed here and totally unrelated. These doors are bugged, and if you look at another thread titled “Bugged doors stuck open” (or something along those lines) you’ll notice a red posted that there is an incoming fix for them.

EDIT: As to the drops. If it was an event door, no loot bags come out and I’m assuming these doors will go towards the title in one of the coming acts. In the meantime it’s a nice karma and exp door. Loot does drop in the monsters but it’s random. Normally get 1-2 ToT bags from the corpses of Halloween monsters xD

Just do it on night time, most sleep, you can manage it easily, as i did. And getting loads of karma too, i can be wrong but everytime i had someone next to me (expecially 3+ players) every door didn’t gave me any karma, popping just 1 mob per player, or a bag.

When they weren’t bugged open, they were bugged to one mob/bag. Man, they can’t even get the events right without a laundry list of bugs.

I would just like to point out that there are different kinds of doors. There are event doors (which give you karma/exp ect) and normal doors at which you trick or treat and it will either spawn nothing, a monster or a loot bag per player. It has nothing to do with how many players are with you. I suggest finding a group in Gendarren Fields that’s running around looking for doors and you’ll get the monster hunter in no time.

Yeah the costumes are already account bound… and I second this! I made a thread like this 2 days ago, although it garnered no attention… I’m really REALLY hoping they implement this again, it was very convenient.

The whole bog area seems to be “hot”…. the bog area is also knows to be an area that’s exceedingly close to the underworld (portals anyone?)… Geeeee… I wonder why this area is hot for spectral readings?

You know that the same drops are found in normal ToT bags (although I heard it’s a lower rate). So you could always farm normal ToT bags and do it that way…. I have close to 1.5k in ToT bags now

Add to this that if you don’t win this “gamble” you don’t really get your moneys worth and you have an issue in a game like this.

Yes the first batch of people opening didn’t realize… every single person afterwards should have known by that point and thus made a very conscious choice to take the gamble on getting something good, and are now kittening along with the ones who didn’t realize the drop rate. Although I didn’t buy keys, from other mmo’s and from GW1 I knew the drop rate was going to be low. It’s not a huge leap in the mental process to go from, it doesn’t state the skins are guaranteed to drop to it most likely is going to be a rare skin with low drop rate. At least for me it isn’t. Mind that’s how I approach all non guaranteed items.

On the other hand, constructive feedback really earns my respect, like how one player mentioned in a topic that ArenaNet should consider adding weapon skins to the gem store to be purchasable via a set amount of gems, to make them accessible to players, while keeping some of them rare via only Black Lion Chests. More than anything, I understand that my views are solely my own, and it isn’t the only truth and it is at best only right for me alone, and not everyone else. It is in the realm of fools to believe otherwise; that your opinion is right and thus you should impose it on everyone else and insult those who disagree. Edit: For those players who feel like they’ve not gotten anything out of the holiday event because they didn’t get the skin they want, you can consider doing what I did. I’ve spent a total of a little over 3000 gems. 700 on a Mad King’s outfit, 700 on a Witch’s outfit, 200ish for the Phantom Hood, 500 on the Halloween miniature pet set, and 900 gems for 10 Black Lion keys. I did not know what the odds were going to be, but either way, I wasn’t going to pour in hundreds of dollars to get the skin I’d like. If anything, the sensible thing to do is to purchase it off the Trading Post once my ten attempts failed. ArenaNet made the skins tradeable, hence making them much more accessible. Ultimately, I walked away with more than a few Halloween unique goodies, and nary a foul taste in my mouth.

The vocal minority would still kitten about not being able to obtain the skins from the chests, even if there were skins in the store. What everyone doesn’t seem to be thinking of is there is a real possibility of free accessible to everyone skins coming in the next acts. I think more people need to stop kittening and start being patient and seeing what is in store for them over the next 8 bloody days.

Also just adding…. ANet has always had random generated, low drop rate RARE skins/minis whatever. It’s not the whole event, it’s for those lucky enough too have obtained them. As many have mentioned, mini polar bear anyone? The drop rate was something like .001% chance to drop, and I rarely remember people kittening over it. Sure there was some moaning of “wish I could get it”. But not the all out rage I’m seeing here…

No… the shoulders, the daggers and the rifle skin are all going for less then 2g… the only ones above that are the ghastly shield, greatsaw and the scythe.

Dragon festival FTW

But isnt that a Cantha only event?

I do remember them saying something about the other lands coming back into play. Most likely in future expansions so I don’t think we’re going to see the Dragon festival again until the Cantha of present time is reintroduced to the general populace (if it is) :P.

There has been confirmation that everything from Act 1 onward will be available for the entirety of the event. A red posted about it on one of the threads.

Edit: I do think that you will most likely have to do things in order though.

I have to agree, until the event is over prices will drop. Once the event is over and no more are being added to the market, prices will sky rocket again. I’d suggest trying to buy before the end of the week… and watch the prices carefully. Certain times of day even can change the price of things quite a bit.

Gadnep, that’s just it… if they’re available in the store… they no longer are super rare. Even in GW1 there were items that had INSANE low drop rates, lower than this (mini polar bear anyone???) and they cost INSANE amounts of money. It’s nothing new. There are lots of other items available. There’s an everlasting tonic that has a rare chance to drop from ToT bags along with tonics and the like and as others have mentioned there’s also the back piece gotten from Act 1 (ahem of 4) that is useful and can be transmuted. These few skins do not make up the event and people are blowing this way beyond what it had to be.

Actually ToT bags carry a rare chance to drop an everlasting halloween tonic. As well as various tonics/consumables and of course cc. So I wouldn’t say there’s nothing in them.
