I’m getting this like crazy… it’s dropping me every 5min. Sometimes it’s dropping me multiple times in a row. I’ll load in, it drops me. I’ll load in again and it drops me. Pretty frustrating to play when you can’t stay connected.

It was fun till I got the first recipe (bifrost) then it became yet another gold sink. Which after doing the math it will most likely be easier and cheap to just buy the pre.

So it takes 35 spirit wood planks (~258g on tp) or 1750 trees to chop down (sounds like fun right?) no counting elder wood, then 10 asc leather (~78g) then there’s the pvp glory and wvw things (~60g) or how ever long it take to get those (200 of each), haven’t had time to find out. Equals out to 396G for just the tier one, remember there are 2 more I can only assume will will want just as much or more = 1,188G (188 over current TP price)

You assume wrong, from what I’ve been able to tell, the first stage is the most expensive stage, the next two tend to be cheaper.

I bought 4 tattered wings because that’s the part that’s truly time gated. the tonics drop from trick or treat bags that trickle in year round.

I’ve personally farmed and opened more than 1,000 bags during this event. No tonic. I largely accept the price is a good reflection of the rarity.

Interestingly the description of the event expressly states there would be a recipe to craft the endless bat tonic. Whoever finds that first is going to make a fortune…

Hahahahaha… 1k bags…. Over the last two Halloweens of easily opened 40k+ and no tonic. I’m now just selling them for the profit since there’s nothing I really want from them anyway aside from the tonic.

And no, the description for the event does not state that there is/will be a recipe to craft the tonic. That was from LAST year and it is assumed it was never added to the game or activated.

Next time you guys decide to mysteriously drop a pretty awesome skin into the game with the cryptic quote “be prepared to work for it” be honest from the get go and label it “be prepared to PAY for it”. These shoulder skins are the price of a legendary to craft, with the price only going to go UP because of the festival gated content required to craft them.

I was honestly prepared to grind for them during the two weeks of Halloween, I don’t mind putting time and effort via scavenger hunt into a really cool weapon. This is true, but the tonic will only continue to rise in price unless you get lucky and have one drop for you, and that rising price will offset some of the lowering of the other “hot” items right now. They really should implement the recipe for the endless tonic that they were supposed to have put in last year.

The tonic will not continue to rise in price — it will reach a saturation point and eventually drop, as has happened with every other coveted item in the game that still drops (with only a tiny number of exceptions, which are often addressed by anet). Look at poly-lumi jewels: their price dropped by 50% (or more) in the last week or so. Yeah, that’s a year after their introduction, which is my point: you only have to pay a ton if you aren’t willing to wait.

The only reason they dropped in price was because they began dropping again with Halloween (imagine that?!). So what you’re saying is, wait a YEAR and next Halloween, buy it when the price drops because they start dropping again? The goes well beyond “earn it”. The price on the tonic will go up all year until next Halloween, the same as almost every other Halloween exclusive rare items.

It’s not hard to get with effort. Those that are complaining about this are just being lazy and entitled. Heck, I’d even be ok with Anet adding the tonic to the cob vendor (100 cobs sounds about right). The point is…..put the effort in!!!

And some of us don’t mind the effort. Like I said, I’ve been trying for that stupid potion since 2012. Obviously it wasn’t necessary for anything at that time, just wanted it for my collection. Been farming for hours, including maize balm farming in the off season when that became an option. Been farming pretty much every night that I could be on since Halloween started this year. Guess who still hasn’t got one as a drop? Had the same kitten issue with Gwyn last year, at least this year I can farm100k candy corn for her (still working on that).

The rng might be just a tad much.

This, you’re right, everything else can be farmed over the course of a few months… but the tonic is something that will remain extremely high priced because of a) it’s drop rate is absurdly low and b) it now has worth towards a desirable item.

Easy fix would be to implement the recipe for crafting the tonic that was in the patch notes last Halloween but never got activated.

I agree with OP that requirements for the holiday items are generally too extreme but like always no need to rush it. I’d say the only thing you must get during halloween is the 4x tattered bat wings .. ideally also the tonic… the rest you can farm little by little.

Took me 3 years to build the crossing (will finish it this weekend actually) but spread over 3 years it didnt feel painful.

Then again if the crossing took 3 years, this shoulder piece is going to take a decade… so yeah, dont mind long term goals but I do think Anet is making these holiday rewards a bit too painful.

For me holiday rewards should be a fun thing you earn for playing halloween content… should be something that is easily earn-able during the festival with a little dedication not something who’s effort potentially dwarves a legendary!

Really hope Anet reviews their strategy for holiday rewards in the future.. as it is it does leave a bit of a sour taste in my opinion rather then a sense of happiness.

The other Halloween skins are reasonable to craft… 400-500g, these shoulder skins could of also been in that reasonable price range, instead ONE component costs that much, unless you get insanely lucky on a drop.

Those people deserve to be catered to from time to time, just as the rest of us do. Just because they released one skin that’s ludicrously expensive doesn’t mean they’re trying to lock the rest of us out of content. Just because the Bugatti Veyron exists doesn’t mean I can’t buy a Honda Civic or a bus pass to get myself to work.

They ARE catered too, A LOT… every legendary is catering to them as are almost all the BL skins, you either have the money for gems to get tickets, or you have the incredible amounts of gold to get them off the TP.

Implying that I haven’t put in any effort is pretty presumptuous of you. You have no idea what I have or have not done in an effort to get it, I’m not the only one who thinks the price is outrageous. I’ve been polite and critiqued both the price point AND the fact that they advertised it as a pretty big part of Halloween when it really has nothing to do with it aside from farming Ascent to Madness for the wings.

Using the term “be prepared to work for it” had people thinking it would be like Mad King Memoires where we actually had to work for it and it was fun, instead of dumping our entire savings into it or just forsaking it completely as out of reach. For those saying “but it wouldn’t be special if EVERYONE could get it” (which I was saying it should be hard enough that not everyone will get it but apparently that fact is going over peoples head), how often do you see the Memoires? It’s a desirable skin, a lot of people want it and a lot of people do have it…. but it’s not worn everywhere. Once the “oo shiny” of it wears off, it becomes less common.

Also, one thing that I think would help this whole thing is if they introduced the recipe for Endless Bat tonic that they were supposed to introduce last year. At least then people could craft the tonic and not pay 500g or pray to RNGesus for a drop. The tonic as it stands will only continue to rise in price, especially once Halloween is over…

Next time they say be prepared to work for it, I guess we all now know that means “be prepared for this to be basically a legendary, minus the stat swapping and to spend the next year or two farming”.

The only other item in the game that is comparable to this is the preserved bee queen. It requires you to give up an ascended slot and take subpar stats. Yet it still sells for ~2000g.

This item is ascended can be given any stats you want and has an even better effect.

Anyone who expected it to be less than 2000g was just having unrealistic expectations.

But at least the queen bee is a drop! If you don’t want to shell out the money then you can farm for it…. there is no other way to get this except to dish out the money.

Congrats on getting the bottle, I’ve opened 10k in bags and nada! So it’s not that simple. Also, the bat wing brew is currently on of the cheapest components at this point…. 3k is Eternity or a few legendaries… if they wanted this price point, they should have made it legendary and let us swap stats… but it’s ascended… and stupid price at that.

If you guys want fun and lighthearted festivals, you are playing the wrong MMO.

I’m serious. If you want fun and lighthearted festival stuff, where you just do some cute little quests or run some events a max of like, 20 times to collect festival currency, play FF14.

Their most recent Halloween event grants everyone who does the little quest line an “outfit” (quotations because it’s actually a set of themed gear pieces), a cute little pumpkin pet, and a broom mount.

And it’s just a set of cute little quests, no major hassle. Just a little something to have fun with. None of this grinding forever and spending thousands of gold stuff just to discover where an item is.

Stop trying to find fun in ANet’s holiday event set ups. You’ll just be disappointed.

There’s plenty of easy-to-get stuff in GW2’s Halloween as well. Getting enough Candy Corn for most of the vendor items is perfectly reasonable (everything except Gwenefryd), and the new weapons and minis can be grabbed off the TP for a reasonable price if they’re not gotten via RNG drops. None of the achievements are overly grindy except for pumpkin carving.

If people are going to get hung up solely on the handful of expensive items, then so be it. But its not like everything is like that.

You’re right, however, no one here has said it needs to be easy to obtain, just that locking it behind a 3000g pay wall is ludicrous. I also don’t feel that festivals are the place to put items that they want to have a 3000g pay wall behind. Use festivals for things like massive quests and scavenger hunts or w.e other methods, just make it so that time and dedication gets you the item instead of “if you have enough gold, here’s the item for you!”.

Nope, I figured they’d make a FESTIVAL item actually acquirable, and not a huge money sink (because there aren’t enough of those in the game). They did it right back in 2012 with the Mad King Memoire hunt that had to be completed. They could of easily done something similar for these, making it harder and more of a TIME investment instead of a “who has enough gold” investment.

There are plenty of skins that require large amounts of gold or gems to get, it would be nice if every so often they put in a skin that was actually obtainable through other methods and allowed for someone to invest time over the festival and be rewarded, instead it’s more praying to RNGesus for an Endless Batwing Brew (since that is already almost 500g and won’t be going down) on top of dumping more money that I’ve ever had on the account into the other mats.

Best bet is to buy the time limited stuff and then sit on your hands and wait for the rest of the materials to go down in price.

I have the bat wings, the endless bat brew is not something I’m going to dump 300g into, and the price will from here on out only rise even more basically negating the other items stabilizing in price.

funnily enough I was enjoying GW2. If you’re going to tell everyone who is skeptical about the expansion pack to leave, what do you think you’ll be left with?

I have problems with the fact that the personal rewards are encouraging people to play incredibly selfishly and just tag an event then move to the next one in order to get 20 stacks because the rewards are so darn low to begin with!

I get that some of the possible rewards are gem store items, and that’s great… but people would have to farm almost this entire event and have no life outside of Guild Wars 2 for 4 days in the hopes of getting more then one reward. This is because the amount of blooms you are able to get are a very FINITE amount, you can only get a max of 45 every 4 1/2 hours plus the 60 a day from the bonus chest… it’s just not worth it to even participate, after almost two days I’m already burnt out.

Why were the rewards not for map wide accomplishment with a minimum participation of 5 events (or however many to help with people just afking in the map)? Why have a map wide counter when it means nothing? It doesn’t matter how many incursions the map has defeated if you personally have only done 5 events.

I’ll be happy enough if I manage to get enough bloom for the toxic glove skin…

On top of that, this was supposed to encourage new players and recruiting for guilds… new players would be hard pressed to even tag anything or understand what’s going on with the speed that the mobs disintegrate. The top level rewards are also mostly out of reach of new players sitting at a 10g price point (on top of the blooms they’re almost never going to get).

Yes they did have restrictions… all new paid accounts have ALWAYS had TP restrictions for the first few days. It’s to help prevent fraud and gold sellers..

17h is hardly a long time…. Have some patience.

You don’t have access to the TP on your beta characters, nor do you have access to your guild or the ability to mail out items or gold since everything accumulated in beta is temporary and will be wiped before release. As soon as you create a beta character (on one of the beta create a character slots provided) you should be dropped into the beta.

If you create a character on one of the normal account slots you’ll start with a level 1 character and play through Guild Wars 2…. if the only thing he’s having issues with is his Beta experience, it’s to be expected on the sole fact that it’s a BETA. It’s not a preview, it’s not head start, it’s beta to test bugs and balance and a myriad of other things, but it is not 100% polished yet.

I would suggest sending in a ticket to support if he’s continuing to have trouble accessing the beta. I bought HoT yesterday and as soon as the beta went live, created a character on the beta slot and haven’t had an issue.

Send in a support ticket guys… the tech team will probably want information that will help them pin-point the issue. In the mean time, patience I know it can be difficult. My issues seem to have resolved on their own… One thing I was asked to try was to make sure that my system clock was up to date and synchronised.

Like others have stated, the only portion of the game where your home world matters is WvW (World vs World) which is a PvP format on a large scale. Everything else is done on mega servers so you can play no matter what world you guys belong to.

Also goes to show what remaining polite will do… People make mistakes and support only follows what they’re told to do until it gets escalated/ you request it to be escalated. It’s a pain in the kitten sometimes but generally, ANet has SUPERB customer service.

I got a response from my support ticket, they acknowledged the increase in error codes in the last week ( I wasn’t having major latency issues so hadn’t submitted for that) and are requesting various information and tests from me.

I’m getting this as well… sent in a support ticket about it. Hopefully they’ll announce something or hotfix whatever it is soon :/ I am glad to see that I’m not the only one getting this though. Not as easy to say it’s on my end when loads of others are getting the exact same issue… and I never had this problem before.

I doubt it’s punishment… as many have said, it’s most likely a result of the servers being overloaded, and ANet maybe not anticipating the size of the surge in users the F2P announcement brought in.

Anyone who bought the game recently can ask for a refund and then purchase HoT with it as long as you bought from ArenaNet… if you bought from a third party seller you’re s.o.l.

I’m having huge issues as well… sent in a support ticket with their diagnostics requests, so we’ll see..

This is the error code I’m receiving: 7:1000:7006:462

Now it’s not even showing me the error message but instead is just loading and loading until I have to force-quit the program.

I’m also having issues… no error code, simply telling me it can’t connect to the log-in servers at this time and to restart the client and try again… either that or it loads for infinity and I have to force-stop it.

I’m having issues logging in… I keep getting a failed to connect to servers error, and the few times I’m able to get into my character select screen, it fails to load in to the game stating the same “failed to connect to servers” error. Either I get the error OR it just loads forever and never actually does anything. I wasn’t having this issue until today, and it’s a minor annoyance, I don’t believe it’s on my end as my internet connection is stable and I pinged the ip and have no packet loss or anything of the sort.

I am also an able bodied 22 y/o, but mentally I’m a wreck. Childhood abuse and subsequent addiction issues has left a lot to be desired when it comes to my capability of dealing with people. I’m slowly getting better and working on things, and am actually wanting to go to college next September, but for now I work part time on a farm, as I have since I was 12.

Since I only work part-time, I have a lot of free time in the day. Guild Wars 2 offers me a place where I can simply be. I don’t need to have any pretenses or walls put up. I can enjoy the scenery and interact with others without feeling consistently judged for my weight or appearance. I’ve made very close friends in this game, some of whom we’ve made the trip to meet each other.

On days where I can’t possibly face going outside and interacting with people, I CAN face logging on and knowing I don’t have to interact, but I most likely will when my guild greets me. Getting shaky because today is a rough day and your mind is telling you it’s time for Speed? Log-in, throw them swiftness boosts on and do WvW or even map completion.

My coping skills were and still are horrid, but gaming gives me that one healthy outlet I can turn to consistently until I turn the corner.

There’s the kicker. As of right now, here is what it would cost to level the professions involved in this to 500 (according to GW2Crafts.net). This is assuming you had the gold to buy all the mats at once. Not following this guide and not doing all your crafting at once will cost you more than these estimates.

Armorcrafting: 116g 81s 77c

Leatherworking: 110g 40s 46c

Tailoring: 107g 26s kitten

Huh? How are they leveling O-0… I’ve gotten 1-300 using about 10g… and making that back overnight selling the kitten I made, so really, I haven’t lost any profit………… 107g seems really excessive.

Personally I think they need to take a page out of Riots book. Have they majorly screwed up a time or two and have had to give a community apology (whether it be on something they said would happen and didn’t, or something they said that was insulting/border over the line), sure it’s happened. But their staff actually INTERACTS in a REAL AND MEANINGFUL way with the community. They engage, they talk things over, they post about what they’re working on, or their thoughts on balance ect. None of the “Hi there, we at ArenaNet…” No, they speak for themselves as a person unless of course it’s some announcement that requires them to say “Hey guys, this is what’s up”.

Now, I’m not saying that when staff here post, it isn’t meaningful. But it isn’t real, it sounds dictated and pre-written, not at all one human speaking to another. Also, can their forums get crazy? Absolutely… but for the most part, as long as we aren’t calling people out, seriously flaming or posting porn, we’re left along to have discussions. If you guys want this to be able to turn into an Esport, you’re going to have to get used to kitten talking, because it happens in ANY competitive environement. It’s what gets people riled up and rearing to go, it’s develops rivalries and promotes the competition.

This is Guild Wars 2, not Neopets, do I think people should be flaming/trolling or being complete kittenes? Not at all. Do I think the moderation and general tone of the forums could use a loosening of the steel grip it currently has? Absolutely.

Like other have stated, there really is no need to have absolutely everything on high, there’s very little difference in terms of visuals by turning down your character limit and quality, and putting shadows to medium as well as reflections to water and terrain. Also I find no need for the Vsync, all it does is artificially lower your fps to begin with.

I’ve been having really bad screen flicker, only on the bottom of the screen ever since the new patch. Only happens with GW2 and it goes away when I enable the vertical sync. My only problem is that vertical sync lowers my fps pretty significantly and I never needed to have it on before, is there something I’m missing that would fix this without needing vertical sync, or is this just a bug that came along with the new patch?

I’ve already tried deleting the local.dat file and then repairing the client, and that didn’t do anything.

Thanks for the link, and I should say that I was able to order them in store, they just issued a gift card to me and then we ordered through their website to be shipped to the store. All that to say that they had them for order, and now they don’t :P

Has Canada stopped with gem cards? I bought some a few months ago off Best Buy website (.ca) but now I can’t find them online, or in store at either Best Buy or EBgames… Any word on why this is? I’d really like to buy more, but I do not give my credit card out online, so being forced into that option isn’t optimal.

This ^ And not only that- we were within 1k points what yesterday? Maybe the day before- it’s only in the last day or so that we’ve slipped (mainly because we knew we were coming into third)
