People who cite portal and time warp as being the best things Mesmer does must be playing with bad mesmers. Temporal curtain is potentially the most powerful skill in the game.
When you’re comfortable with the build, switch to Scholar runes.
Yet another “_ can’t be done” thread. You know all the conspiracy nuts who say, “I can’t figure out how the Egyptians built the pyramids, so it must be aliens”? That’s how you sound in these threads. Just because you don’t know the encounter mechanics you assume “it can’t be done.”
As an aside, this is an example of what the forum would be filled with if anet ever implemented the “interesting boss mechanics” that people want so badly. NOt saying Simin is a good encountr, but it isn’t super straight-forward. If every legendary level boss had a somewhat complicated mechanic, the entire forum would be filled with threads about so and so boss being impossible.
Your plan for the Control Panel sounds painful. What my Guild does (though we only run level 10) is kill the first group of dredge in the room, have 2 get on the buttons, 1 on console, and 2 defending the console person from the 1-2 dredge that spawn
Having 2 people “defend” won’t really work at fractal 48. Your only option is to have the Guardians kite to keep the dredge away from the controller. Watch Strife’s video to see how this is done.
Hello banners/fury uptime/best vulnerability stacking besides engineer in the game?
Warrior is far from being the only class that has good vulnerability stacking. DPS guardians have pretty decent vuln stacking.
Fury uptime is a great thing to have, but again, if you were to lower the war’s dps to everyone else’s dps, I’m not sure perma fury would be seen as such a great thing overall. If you slow down the killing speed you might benefit more from other abilities and war have nothing but dps like I said. The magic works so well because of the level of damage, if not for it, warriors would be a pretty sad sight.
As for banners, you wouldn’t need more than one war to bring the only two useful banners, Discipline and Strength. If you nerf the thief’s and warrior damage, all you’ll be doing is create two miserable classes that will be as undesirable as the ranger, and it’ll just be a new era of guardian, elementalist and mesmers.
Warriors do it easier and with less sacrifice.
More importantly, it’s kind of funny how you consider taking only 1 warrior or thief as a damage to the class, when you see no groups with more than 1 mesmer, let alone any other class except a guardian in fractals.
If the change causes you to take 1 per class and consider bringing other class distributions, then it’s good enough for me. Because when group comp is just a token mesmer while stacking 3-4 warriors or 2 warriors 2 thieves and a mesmer, that’s garbage design.
What will happen after a warrior and thief dps nerf:
1x warrior for banners/fury
1x mesmer
3x dps guardians (mix of greatsword and 1h sword/focus)
You know what’s still not going to be the meta? Rangers. OH SNAP.
Traps haviz…traps. Also, think about it. If the ranger is tanking, everybody else is doing the damage without worries while the ranger is holding the aggro. I worry about this generation of gamers if they can’t think outside of the box like this…
What does tanking have to do with gw2 pve? Maybe your out of the box thinking isnt as good as you assume.
Indeed. It’s also nice to see that people started to use proper dps builds for guardians as well. Still waiting for classes like engineer, ranger, necro and elementalist.
Have any more thinly veiled insults you want to add in?
nope <.<
that is really obsolete….. best strat is still to have ppl die…
Also it would be good to see how the other side deals with dredges…not to mention the 3 war 1 guard 1 mez team that is per se the saddest thing to see in a guide…
Just to show easy mode.
no offense, but clearly you have no idea what the “best strat” is at all.
Watch Strife’s dredge fractal for 38 video. They nerfed the jump thing, but the strat in the room is exactly the same. We show you there that there is no reason for anyone to have to die in that room.
Glad to see people are catching on finally. It took months to get people to stop playing shout heal wammo builds. Took some more months to get them to run full berserker. And now they are finally using a proper dps rotation. Only about 6 more months until pugs are worth picking up.
There is already a thread about this. Yesterday’s update broke rare salvaging so that instead of getting 0-3 ecto per rare you get 0-1 per rare. Whether the price bump is based on speculation or legitimate supply shock, time will tell. If they patch it today, time won’t tell.
How is it a practice more issue if the player can’t see an animation past a wall of blue, wall of red, wall of purple, lines of player attacks (mesmer gs, unicorn ponies (dreamer), blue glowy balls, etc.), flowers growing on the enemy (kudzu), green poison auras, and a whole bunch of other partical effects to go along with the partical effects the boss already has on himself. Then there’s also all the bright, flashy lights that come from your allies (guardians mostly). That isn’t L2P, that is a He’s freaking hard to see issue. Not everyone has perfect eyesight. After a hundred 48 runs I still have a hard time figuring out who he’s aiming at if there’s a guardian in the group blinding you every 2s.
So you finished 100 level 48s eating every single flame arrow along the way? Your guildies have the patience of saints to tolerate that.
The 2nd is because some parts of dungeons require ranged
Which? I cant think of a single encounter in named dungeons where that is true.
Hate to say it but… actually I don’t hate to say it: this is an L2P issue.
Izzy’s pve build ideas are great if you are into wasting gold and time acquiring completely useless gear and being a hindrance to your team.
assuming you don’t have a legendary in every slot.
::backs away slowly::
my lvl 50 … had a hard time with groups for dungeons.
I’d say I just correctly identified the real problem.
Fast hands with sigil of battle is better dps than 25 in strength on any fight that lasts over 10 seconds, which is to say, not in cof.
as much as I dont want cof to be nerfed, I relish the day when it is so these inbred builds get flushed away.
S/F, S/S or S/P. Full melee always.
I don’t think you understood what I said. Let’s say you have two warriors in your group. Adding a third warrior will increase your overall team DPS by n due to more Fury and Might stacks. However, adding a 4th warrior will increase your team dps by n-2 because Fury is 100% uptime already and the good banners are already accounted for, and 3 more Might stacks won’t be as good as what you got from the 3rd warrior. That is what I mean by “DR”.
That said, the ‘n-2’ might still be higher than what you could get by adding another class so it would still be beneficial to take the warrior. However, the more difficult the content (where reflects and temporal curtain matter more) the more likely that a 4th warrior is a suboptimal choice.
So the conclusion of what I am getting at is that past the third warrior you are probably better off taking another class in that spot.
No, it is a pug issue. Ive never worried about having too many mesmers in a guild group.
I think Dub meant to say that you can stack warriors (let’s say up to 4) but same thing doesn’t apply to any other proffesion. Hence, it is balancing issue.
I get what he is saying, but that really has to do with one skill, FGJ, and not about the damage coefficients and attack rate of the skills. That one utility skill gets better and better the more warriors you add until you get to 3. Going from 3 warriors to 4 will not increase the team DPS by as much as going from 2 to 3 did. Basically, there are diminishing returns for stacking warriors, it just so happens to be later for warriors than other professions.
The way I would look akitten …
DR kicks in for warriors at 4, Guardians at 3, mesmers at 3, Engies at 2, Thief 3, Necro 2, Ranger 2, Ele 2
What would i do with a sword or pistol offhand?
It’s not a pug-issue, its a balancing issue.
No, it is a pug issue. Ive never worried about having too many mesmers in a guild group.
Yeah that sucks. If you’re going to pug you’re going to have to accept that some things will be suboptimal.
My mesmers temporal curtain/feedback gets useless when theres another mesmer in the group.
Thank God you can coordinate those things.
The first Mesmer adds a lot to your team. Second Mesmer can be useful too for morecool down coverage. The third Mesmer is not useful. Add a guardian, warrior ir anotjer engie in his place and it would be a cake walk.
And dub is correct, Mesmer gs sucks and is a lazy weapon.
Yeah my mesmer’s dps isnt as good as my warrior’s. But I’ll say this: my warrior’s temporal curtain is awful.
Go to the guild recruitment subforum and find one that suits you better.
I’ve PUGd 350+ dungeons, 30 FOTM, rank 23 wvw, 1765+ hours on ranger, and through all of that I’ve been accepted in nearly every group. Rangers actually do a ton of damage, just, popular players like Strife are admittedly scared of playing a more challenging profession. They won’t even test it to see if it decreases their run times.
a few possibilities…
1. We have tested rangers in our speed runs and.found they suck. And youre delusional.
2. strife is actually scared of using a ranger for some reason.
I wonder which is more likely.
I’m going to need proof since strifey previously wrote on reddit that he was afraid rangers do less damage and that he personally would never use one. That said, people with 5 level 80s usually aren’t any good at playing their alts. I am a hardcore player and have never run across someone—outside of spvp— who was accomplished with two professions. They are rarities. And ranger is so much different than warrior so people who roll one end up using their warrior playstyle, dying a lot, and saying “what?”. I do have a warrior: it’s so boring I use her as my mule. I would have quit the game ages ago of I had to play that profession.
How much damage does a warrior do? Well, I have a speadsheet here with all the numbers and skill coefficients. I also have one for ranger. Math—it works!
Strife isnt the only player in our guild, and I have no idea what quote youre referring to. If rangers would improve our speed clear records or even make our casual runs bettrr we would use them.
Spreadsheets. I play guild wars 2 not fantasy land spreadsheet wars 2. spreadsheets are good for theory, next you put it into practice and demonstrate it in actual game play in realhigh level fractals or dungeon speed clears. Try doing that if you want to be taken seriously.
And a lot of players can play multiple professions at an elite level, so maybe youre not as hardcore as you think you are, but thats just a speculation.
a war cant do this!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRab_4rnnFU this aint my highest dps
skill 3 record is 38k, chain 1 over 20k and skill 4 2,8k each tick
Funny how my guild group kills alpha much faster than that when I run my necro.
I was going to say something similar, but pointing out how slow they were just seems like piling on.
like i said this aint my max dps (if you dont know how to read aint my fault) the video were just a example for the ele dps (normal run alpha is dead with 7-8 attack left on my gs if want to know) , but ofc a necro do more dps
I was commenting on the team dps not yours. And a dagger horn necro can do comparable dps.
A fun fact is almost every class in full berserker gear with their best weapon set will do good enough dps to be viable. What sets them apart is the utility they bring doing said dps. Or dont bring as is the case of necros, eles or rangers.

You can farm one every 10-15 minutes or so doing story modes on new characters.

Pistol dagger is great dps if you consider 5 stacks of bleeeding great dps.
I agree that running with people who know what theyre doing and aren’t dying much but are cool about people making mistakes and aren’t elitist is the way to go
If you’re still dying in CoF path 1 at this stage of the game you deserve to be given a hard time.
You can’t mention any specific exploits/bugs on forums. I already got way too many infractions for that.
Oh so it is an exploit.
The burden of proof lies with the person making the claim not on the skeptic.
I’m sure killing him in 15 seconds isn’t an exploit at all.
I’m sure.
Very sure.
…
Just FYI about the “effective power” thing from buildcraft. It is only a valid comparison for builds in the same profession using the same weapon. It doesn’t take into consideration skill coefficients, and doesn’t take into consideration dps roations. So without those two things, comparing the results is idiotic. He even points out in the notes that you are only to use that number to compare two builds of the same profession using the same weapon. Reading comprehension FTW.
It appears my winged wit hath overflown thy head.
…when I click sell junk I still have silk scraps and thick leather sections in my inventory for some reason.
The problem I’m having with these guides is that they’re from the perspective of a co-ordinated group of players who use niche teamwork, like I notice in the arah videos you frequently have one player draw some mobs away so the rest of the group can get through, and that’s a great thing to know about if you’re playing with the guild and you’re on teamspeak but I found that in pub groups randomly formed on GW2LFG people tend to not do that kind of thing. Would be better if you went over the kind of things more casual groups are going to try to get through the content, what to expect and what’s expected of you to hold your own playing through these dungeons with a group of people you’ve never met or spoken to before so you don’t end up being that guy who holds the group back.
I dunno. He explains what every boss does and what the mechanics of every encounter are. How you solve those encounters will vary depending on your team, but the encounters themselves are always the same. Besides, most scrubs or bad pugs just use ranged weapons on everything, and nobody needs a guide for that.
I also want to add: Potent Potion of Elemental Slaying. If everyone in your group has 9% more damage and 8% damage reduction it makes the elementals significantly easier. If people are downing and not using the potions, they only have themselves to blame.
A lot of the problem is people are used to going deep and bursting down the elementals quickly after popping the bubble which is a bad habit developed in low levels. At 30+ teh elementals are sufficiently powerful enough that you cant just burst them all down in a few seconds and they hit hard enough to make fighting them without reflects a pretty bad idea. The best strategy is to slowly retreat behind reflects and group them together with binding blades and temporal curtain. Keep retreating periodically.
Incidentally, with an ele in your party for blast finishers and rangers dropping water fields you should have enough healing to do this plan perfectly.
that and the tokens are worthless from SE
oh baby dem signets
SE1 is the 2nd fastest path in the game behind cof1.
YATAS
Yet Another Thread About Skipping. Nope, these aren’t tiresome.
Only a completely pompous, arrogant know-nothing would even presume to tell people that the way they enjoy the game is “right” and everyone else is thereby wrong.
Wondering how a full Guard group running this would do…there would literally be no need to dodge(ok, maybe next to zero need). Spam aegis/heals/protection/burn and stand there and dps down everything…seems more efficient to me lol.
5x Guardians would be very slow (even if they went all out DPS builds) because…
No Time Warp
No Signet of Inspiration
No Fury
No Banner of Discipline
It would be tough to break a 6 minute run with that set up. Feel free to prove me wrong though!
i don t believe you can recover a messed up cliffside arm seals at 50 without 2 guardians
Why would you do such a high level fractal without two Guardians in the first place?
skill 3 record is 38k, chain 1 over 20k and skill 4 2,8k each tick
