Lupi is far too good at killing Frost Spirits. He needs to teach Subject Alpha how it’s done.
Lets see, I hate Dungeons, despise Fractals, and WvWvW is a money sink, so how exactly am I supposed to acquire all this wealth? Between buying gems, and trying to kit out my toons, I’m lucky if I have 2 gold spare.
No offense, in every game with dungeons/end game instances that has always been the superior way to generate wealth. If you aren’t interested in doing those things, that’s cool, but don’t expect to be as wealthy as someone who does.
I am a lawyer and I make a good salary. I could have made a better salary if I chose to be an i-banker instead. There are a list of things I could have that I’d like if I was an i-banker. But since I don’t enjoy i-banking I don’t covet the things i-banking would bring me. Your problem, as I see it, you don’t like dungeons yet you covet the spoils of running dungeons.

Pretty impressive, but does Entangle on boss #1 and Spirit of Frost really speed up a team over a guardian?
Entangle has synergy with Backstab, thats why you use it. And yes, Frost Spirit being a 7% party-wide dps boost is quite impressive.
So long as you have at least 10 Zeal, 25 Radiance, 10 Virtues you could spend the remaining points however. I would probably put 10 into Valor for Retributive Armor and the extra crit damage.
So Maybe 10/25/10/0/10 with 5 points extra depending on what the math says is better, power, prec or crit damage. My guess is 15 zeal would be better dps.
Ele has +40% dmg too and 100 power more than guardian with 20-25-0-25-0
I don’t think that Guardians are able to do more dmg with LH than thieves or ele
Ele works, but I only see Thief doing more when the target is below 50%.
10/25/0/25/10 would be 50% modifiers for Guardian, which is pretty good I heard.

One question: which profession is capable of doing the most damage, fully buffed, with a lightning hammer?
Guardian. Unscathed Contender OP. 40% dps modifier against burning foe with Aegis up.
Guess spotter and frost spirit suck.
The fractal daily chest has a chance at a very rare fractal weapon skin versus the guaranteed rare from a world boss daily chest. Not to mention the cores/lodestones from the actual Maw chest.
I would argue that the fractal chest has WAY better loot than the world boss daily chest.
But opinions differ.
The Maw chest has nothing to do with the daily fractal chest. You can do all the Maw chests you want per day. And nothing feels more rewarding than 40 fractal relics and 3 greens and a bag of jewels after you did Mossman, Dredge and Cliffside.
People with ALTs have such an elitist attitude. So, if I had 15 ALTs (which some claim to have), I should be able to get 15 level 48 fractal chests a day? Besides, what would keep me from ALT deleting and recycling to get more chests?
The system is set up great now in that it DOES allow you to get multiple level 48 chests, as long as you have progressed your character to that level. This is much more ALT friendly then even the world boss chests.
Account wide personal reward level should come with account wide daily chest reward. And let’s be honest, that is NOT what all of you want.
World boss chests have better loot so that makes sense.
This wholr thread has met or exceeded all expectations I had. All the characters played their roles perfectly to script.
Actually CM story was buffed in difficulty to slow down the people who were speed running it for levels. They added a few new champion mobs you cant skip and which deal pretty ridiculous damage for a level 40 player to deal with.
Once you get all the in game wealth you could ever want you are free to only have do the dungeons and paths you want to do for the fun of it. That’s when you will quickly figure out which paths of the dungeons are actually fun and which are chores. You’d be surprised how your perspective on that topic will change.
Or a mesmer to blow up the top of the elemental source.
New rangers let their pets die a lot. You should play with me obal, and use my high level fotm build.
Obal only does 48’s. Doesn’t slum it in the 20’s.
If starcake is “winning”, that makes Sweet and Sour Butternut Curry Squash Soup “god mode enabled.”
not sure if troll shielding…
.
…But I agree 100% with Byron, you can’t trust anything anyone says on these forums just b/c so few of the most vocal “Pros” ever volunteer or even RUN in pugs. They conveniently have their little private groups that maybe 1 or 2 of them ever puts out a video of which is always heavily edited as well….
Why would anyone pug if they didnt have to? Masochism?
The usefulness of an AH guardian varies with how useful a guardian with hammer as his main weapon is. The more an encounter wants a hammer guardian the more useful an AH guardian is. To me, this only occurs in high level fractals as others have cited.
It is also possible as Haviz said that fotm difficulty will get sufficiently tough at higher levels that even perma-protection+ring of warding for the party stops being useful for the bad trash pulls.
Will a dev confirm if the fixes for these will be in the July 23 patch?
Why the huge jump in speed between earlier this year and now? A few months ago the record kills were only incrementally improved, but you guys just cut it in half in like…3 weeks.
That’s actually how it works half the time. Half the time records are broken by refinement and execution (gradual improvements) and the other half they are shattered in big fashion (innovative new strategy.)
It isnt about whethet ranger is better in a party than a warrior (it isnt) its about whether a ranger is better than having a THIRD warrior, which it very well may be in some instances.
Oh, and Guang right about everything again, what a surprise. What happened to RANGER DPS kitten WARRIORS WAY BETTER GIB ARAH 7 MIN SOLO SPEED CLEAR OR GTFO, eh? Now we’re pretending we knew rangers were good all along? What a TWEEST.
Sorry, it’s late at night and I’m a bit out of it from too much studying.
To be fair, Spotter has only really been worth taking for like 14 days now. And Frost Spirit has always been pretty good, but without Spotter being buffed Frost Spirit alone wasn’t worth the price of admission. Now all things considered it’s viable, don’t be too down on people for taking 10 days to figure out things especially on a class most people haven’t played much.
oh no, the guardian had to bring hallowed ground and purging flames, party comp is radically altered….
And yet my point still stands.
LH ele is pretty mediocre all things considered. I’ve tried all sorts of party comps specifically tailored to make them good, and its still so underwhelming. Sure, Fiery Greatsword on a boss against a wall is epic dps, but when you’re actually using the hammer the dps isn’t anything amazing really.
To put it in perspective, you have to radically alter your party comp and playstyle to get the most out of LH ele, and after all that extra work you have a team that isn’t anything more than average dps except for fiery greatsword shenanigans.
aside from all that i still see no reason to take anything less than 2w 1g 1m 1X and X i would prefer an ele anyways.
I would prefer a Ranger over the ele assuming the ranger is good. Spotter and Frost Spirit are better group DPS buffs than Ele blast finishers. If the ranger can’t dodge with sword, then forget it. But if they can, Spotter is a tier one trait.
Empower Allies is one of the few traits that actually works properly, except for the tooltip. If I had my choice, I’d rather have broken tool tips than broken traits and accurate tool tips.
Still not fixed after the 7/12 patch.
That food buff is terrible and overpriced.
They are priced at a point where people actually pay for them. So they can’t be overpriced if they sell. Remember, item prices are player set. So if you’d like to try and manipulate the prices down, you’ll have to sell the same item for far less, and hope you have enough supply to offset demand.
It’s overpriced relative to other buffs which are much better.
The point is, better for who? A ranger – for whom power scales horribly – wearing full celestial trinkets, armor, divinity runes and celestial weapons? Or for a mesmer/warrior/guardian in zerker gear? The quality of this buff all depends on the class mechanic, the build and the gear used.
So your point is if someone uses a bad build with bad gear
Your opinion, obviously not mine. You’re presuming this is bad for any build, which is either naive or arrogant because it presumes you know every build of every class better than anyone else.
I don’t claim to know everything better than anyone else. I do happen to know this particular thing better than the particular person I’m apparently in a debate with. This food, like divinity runes and celestial gear, is scrub bait plain and simple.
I will be making a forum guide on how CoF p1 should be run in the next couple days I will link it on this thread along with a video. Until then I have a video of my group breaking the p1 record on another forum thread some techniques will be able to be seen in that video. gl with your legendary.
Dont just talk about it, be about it.

I predict a record setting run with innovative strategies that radically alters the current paradigm.
The cakes are overpowered.
Sounds like you don’t know anything about the mechanics of GW2 and what makes something OP. Since your premise is grossly incorrect, why should we listen to the absurd conclusion you draw from it?
Still using the incorrect values after the patch.
The cumulative effect of these bugs is reducing warrior pve dps by approximately 10% for a min-maxed character.
I mean, if this is the dev’s intentions, fine. But if this is actually an error it’s pretty significant and shouldn’t have been excluded from this patch.
These are all still broken. What’s the timetable on a fix?
You did a scumbag move. Take solace in the fact, though, that most human beings are also scumbags and so at least you have company.
Now scurry off, and figure out a way to skip ahead of old ladies while in line for a cashier or something. I’m sure there is a unicef donation box you could steal while you’re at it, too.
Before the recent patch Empowered was 2% damage per boon. After testing in HoM, it is adding only 1% damage per boon.
Either this was an undocumented intentional change, or it got bugged when the Ele trait (Water 25) got nerfed to 1% per boon because the two are linked.
Can we get dev feedback on whether this was intentional?
I went to the Heart of the Mists with a steady Greatsword. With 30 in strength, but no major traits selected, my Rush hit the medium golem for 268. Afterwards, I selected berserker’s power and used healing surge to fill my adrenaline. I used Rush again and hit the medium golem for 301. This is a 12% dps boost, not the 15% as the patch notes and tool tip says.
My presumption (not entirely unfounded) is that Heightened Focus is equally bugged, but that is more effort to test than I desire to do.
I would appreciate a dev response.
Plain and simple, we need more people like you around.
No, no we don’t. I thought people already learned how to calculate DPS. You don’t take one rotation, cut it off as the last attack ends, divide it by the time and present it as DPS. Just beacuse warrior does in it’s first 7s 15k dps doesn’t represent the fact that for the next 8s when he waits for his cooldowns he does bugger all (exagerating, but you get the gist). And I’m starting to see why Guang doesn’t care to post any videos, because this is what happens.
FWIW, the warrior rotation is 10 seconds and endlessly repeatable.
If you had offered the things which could be improved (not saying there arent I have no idea what video you’re referencing or who was in the group) initially rather than making a troll post designed to insult Obal I might treat you with a bit more respect in return. Try thinking about that.
Have you got any problem with me? You seem to think I try to troll you or your friends at every occasion but that’s not the case. I didn’t listed anything because this thread is called “Ranger DPS in Dungeons” and I don’t like to derail threads. Secondly, I don’t insult people publicly because that’s rude and against the rules of these forums. First time we ever spoke you were already very aggresive towards me so I don’t really have any idea what’s wrong but I sincerely hope you would stop with that approach.
I don’t even know who you are let alone have a problem with you. You were being insulting, just so you are aware, even though you say you do not act that way. Lastly, I don’t think I was ever “aggressive” toward you, though I have no idea what that means to you exactly so maybe I was. My apologies if you ever thought that.
It must be that you are better player than him.
I don’t particularly care who is a better player than I am, I admire the skills of anyone who is. Lastly, I never claimed to be the best at anything, so your series of bizarre responses for the past few weeks are very puzzling to say the least.

Oh so you’re a better player than Obal?
I watched archdiviner video and it seems that almost whole of his party, including him, lacks knowledge about certain game mechanics, probably because they spent too much time on exploiting which he even acknowledges. Improving that part is within reach.
I’m very sad to see what these forums have become. Instead of asking what could have been improved you’re responding with basically ‘whoru?’. Compare your response to obal’s.
Finally, please stop trying to look for sarcasm in my posts.
If you had offered the things which could be improved (not saying there arent I have no idea what video you’re referencing or who was in the group) initially rather than making a troll post designed to insult Obal I might treat you with a bit more respect in return. Try thinking about that.
Guang, please watch the video.
I just did. Now picture if they had a ranger and engineer in that group. It’d probably be under 40 seconds.
Now I know you’re trolling.
-snip-
Those videos were very illuminating, thank you. But there is still a lot room for improvement.
Oh so you’re a better player than Obal?
Staff Guard /w 2h weapon recharge discount if you wanna Might Stack.
12 stacks > 3 stacks
We actually stopped using Empower. It turned out to be really bad in conjunction with Signet of Inspiration or redundant.
Usually we have 3 warriors using FGJ+ sig for 18 20s stacks. Or a LH ele with a fire field for 25 20s stacks. What we found is in either setup the short lasting Empower stacks overwrite the good stacks unless you’re careful about the order you apply the buffs (too must hassle in a normal run) and we maintained more Might in the long run by using exclusively 20+ duration stacks instead of the short ones.
As an aside, this is why Forceful Greatsword is bad on warriors in organized groups: the 5 second Might stacks chew up your 20 second stacks and you average fewer stacks in any fight longer than 9 seconds.
Basically, the duration of the Might stacks matters more than the amount because you’re trying to get a high average number over time rather than a huge number at the start and looks awesome but which will evaporate in 10 seconds.
I love Guang actually. His conclusions are wacky but he is good at math and excel and I love a good pot-stirrer.
I mentioned this in another thread but it bears repeating here to slow down the spread of misinformation: Forceful Greatsword is a net DPS loss in an organized group. When you run with 3-4 warriors and a mesmer with signet of inspiration you will hit 25 stacks of Might that last 20s+ each. Forceful greatsword will overwrite a third of those with 5 second stacks in the first 4 seconds of a fight, which will kill your dps in any fight longer than 9 seconds. It’s a build trap.
FWIW, I wanted another legendary but didn’t have a gift of exploration or gift of battle, 500 Shards or bloodstone shard. I had a guildie who had all these extra. So I sent him everything else for the legendary and he crafted it, sent it back to me. I sent him a large amount of extra gold to compensate him for the account bound things I didn’t have.
Long story short: I got my legendary for less than it would have cost on the TP, he made more profit than he would have crafting it, listing it and (hopefully) selling it on the TP. My expectation is that when you are talking about transactions this large, most of the stuff happens in grey markets outside of the TP like I just described and so listing a 1000g item is a pretty hefty risk for low reward. The hard part is finding someone you can trust with that kind of situation.
30/25 is probably better solo because you won’t be getting Might or boons from anyone else. That said, who cares about open world solo stuff. I’m much more concerned about the best build for Arah or Fotm 48 and not which build is best for afk auto attacking Tequatl.
It’s only possible if you enter straight after cut scene and dps the hell out of that tree,
So in short, it’s only possible if you do what you’re supposed to do.
30/25/0/0/15 = 3320*(1+0.7057*1.42)*1.38 = 9173
30/0/0/10/30 = 3320*(1+0.7367*1.57)*1.34 = 9594
It’s not about viable, it’s about optimal. This effective power calculation is only assuming 3 boons from Empowered because I wanted to be conservative. In an actual dungeon run besides cof it would be 5 boons (or more) and the gap would be even larger.
edit: 30/10 is absolutely the worst option of the 3 by a gigantic margin. 30/25 is actually decent… if you run solo open world stuff and won’t be capping Might and won’t be getting vuln from your teammates. In dungeons is significantly less viable.
With the might from greatsword crits and the cooldown reduction you are a bit ahead on the 30/25 build until you max might stacks from other sources, then 30/0/0/10/30 scales better.
Except you miss one very important point: Forceful Greatsword is a DPS loss in a group setting. In an organized group you won’t get might stacks that last less than 10 seconds, usually 20+. Guess what happens with Forceful Greatsword: you overwrite those 22 second stacks with 5 second ones. So on average, the 30/25 build maintains fewer Might stacks than the 30/0 because of a stupid trait that everyone thinks does the opposite.
Also your math is wrong in the first place. Forceful Greatsword “maintains” 3 stacks of Might (I quote that because as I have shown above it’s a net loser in dungeons) whereas 30/0 has Versatile Power which maintains 2 stacks. 35 power difference. Significantly less than 1% there.
Rending Strikes maintains 3.5 stacks of vuln over time. Thats 1.75 vs a boss. 1.75% damage buff. Doesn’t even come close to closing the gap that 30/0 already has.
Lastly, when you factor in the potential of Empowered Allies to give an 8% dps boost to your whole party the very fact that we are even having to discuss which build is better is pretty hilarious.
