All this crying is hilarious. If you think ANet will lose out from using a gacha model, which tons of other MMOs use successfully, you’re horribly mistaken.

exactly, and I hope ANet doesn’t give in a second time to this vocal minority…

Um, do you want GW2 to become associated with those low quality MMOs? I for one expected more from it especially since the game is head and shoulders better.

@ Cancer,
take Roulette, you can see exactly what the house odds are by how many 0, 00 and 000s they have added to the 36 numbers. Roulette is considered by many to have the worst odds.

Of course slots have the odds hidden, but most other games you can calculate the house odds and yes it is usually well above 80% return.

The reason most people end up losing big in Vegas is the psychology. They go a winning streak then make a big gamble and lose it all. Also, many people don’t stop when they are ahead.

PS: and yes I have gambled in Vegas and won when I remebered to stop when I was ahead.

After reading the posts I did not buy any keys. But I did buy a Witches outfit and was very pleased.

I agree the drop rate is too low. For those who compare it to the lottery or Vegas, it isn’t the same. Even in Vegas you get I think 80-90% back, higher if you play poker or count cards in blackjack. With lottery the odds are really low but if you win you win really big.It would be like buying a key and getting a 1 million Gold reward.

We need to distinguish between drop rate and jackpot rate. The drop rate was 100% in the sense that for every single key purchased, a prize was won. If you are referring about the drop rate of skins, that would be the jackpot. Jackpots are very rare in any type of gambling.

True, but I will use the closest analogy which would be value when converted to Gold on TP. If I spend 100G to buy gems to buy keys I would hope to get on average 80G back in value. Many other Cash shop games eg Perf World actually have a higher than 100% payback at least for the early buyers.

ATM 1G~ 1key and the chance of getting ANY tradable Halloween item is from what I see very low. The most valuable of the skins appears to be the Chainsaw which last I checked was about 50G. No way you can profit. Easier to just buy the Gold and buy the skin you want.

The Halloween Witch and Mad King costumes are the only costumes done right ATM. I debated for a while then purchased the Witch outfit with real money.

It was a blast to be able to summon a Cauldron to incite a brawl ANYWHERE. I was afraid I could only use it in big cities but apparently it works even out in the wilderness as long as you are not in combat.

Switching to it was a pain until I assigned a hotkey to it in options. Then now I can hit one key and start riding my broom. Or summon a cauldron.

If other town costumes have variations of this level of functionality I would buy them.

I think you missed something in the polls. People who would have bought keys if the drop rate were higher. Option 4, includes people who have heard about the low drop rate of skins and therefore did not buy keys.

Personally the only skin so far that looks interesting is the Chainsaw and even that could have been a little bit more interesting with some green glow or dripping blood.

I don’t know if they plan more in the upcoming acts.

Yeah Lions Arch is where most of the stuff is. I’m still trying to figure it out but the brawl is a blast even though you don’t get anything but achievement points.

To do the brawl (which you can do anywhere non-battle if you see a witches cauldron and drink the brew to turn into an animal), or buy a brawl enabled Halloween outfit from the Gem store. In Lions arch you can also join the brawl by doing the jumping puzzle next to the mystic forge.

The other event is pumpkin carving which you do by talking to an NPC then after that carve as many pumpkins as you can find anywhere in the world. Not sure what reward that will end up giving.

The server wide TP is actually integral to the game design and a brilliant choice by the devs.

It allows all servers to be reasonably balanced in the sense that you can change servers without the problem of moving gold and imbalancing the server or having an unfair gamin or trading advantage because of that.

If it allows arbitrage, that actually helps the server in question balance out.

The way they promote it in the BLTC it sounds like you will likely get something. When I read of people opening 40 chests and getting not one Halloween item that is crazy bad.

Especially since these aren’t even pay to win items just skins.

I sure will never pay for a single key.

It seems to me that those skins are VERY disappointing. The best of them (weapons) appears to be the chainsaw but even that I think it could be implemented better.

Heck this is Halloween and these things are ultra rare. How about some glowing green/orange stuff coming off them? Otherwise they just look like unusual newbie weapons.

The town clothing skins look cool and if they are indeed account and not soulbound they might be worth it. It would pay double if they were ones we could use in combat though.

Since you asked about crafting i presume you don’t mind the cost. There are several guides on the web Google “GW2 crafting leveling” or similar which give you exact paths and amounts of mats you need to get from 1-400. Add to that Crafting XP booster fro Gem store.

I’m not sure how many levels you will gain this way but if going 1-400 in one craft doesn’t level you enough just level another craft.

Add personal quests in between and it should be pretty fast.

Actually there are already Warrior bots, they just aren’t as obvious and detectable as Ranger bots. The botters are probably simply using Rangers as the whipping boy to keep attention away from other class bots.

@Fate, I loved my Ranger before the SB nerf despite the fact it was underpowered. (I won’t repeat all the posts proving many of your statements wrong).

I don’t want to have to completely change my playstyle because of an unintended nerf. (remember this was supposed to be an ANIMATION only fix). If I want a different playstyle I would choose a different class, which I have.

Your post is pointless and simply wrong. The Ranger should not have been nerfed and the bugs need to be fixed, not have everyone change their playstyles simply because Anet can’t or won’t fix the bugs fast enough.

name one that does not include the TP. i can make a gold in an afternoon farming cursed shore.

There, you just named one yourself. Three afternoons (or one long weekend day), if you walk everywhere and don’t die (which isn’t that hard), will net you 3g. Do you really think this is something less than 5% of players are capable of doing?

But every person you see with a blue arrow over their head? that costs 100 gold. It allows you to have 40 players in your party instead of 5. Am I ever going to see one? No. Not anymore.

Why not any more? If you’re unable to increase your wealth, even very slowly, then you’re doing something very very wrong.

So by your logic if I played every day, nver died or bought gear or bank slots or anything, by now I would have about 300 gold assuming i started at level 80 and didn’t have to work my way up.

There are players that are much much richer than that. And they didn’t live for the last month glued to their chair ignoring their life and pooping in a bag next to their computer either.

3 gold an hour is more what they are making, and I’ve had people claim to me they do it.

The money making is in the TP and it accelerates the more money you have to invest.

It took me a while but I have figured out a few places to make money in the TP, not a lot but I know once I build up enough savings my 10% profit on a 1G investment will go to 10% profit on 10G investment and so on. (compounding). Also, although it is safer to sit there watching, most of the time you can place the trades and come back later.

What you left out of this is the fact that the information has to come from a reliable source. ie: insider info. Or a claim that the information is genuine. Then it becomes a scam.

Mere publishing of speculative information is not illegal. If I write on my blog that I think stock xyz is going to go up due to … (based on publicly available info) that is not illegal. Same as in game.

Well I hit 80 with my Ranger and found it boring – total anti-climax.

I would suggest trying out a few, the light armor classes Ele and Mesmer are very challenging compared to the Warrior. I didn’t like the Necro playstyle.

Medium armor classes might be n in between, less of a shock in terms of inherent glass cannony of the light armor vs Warrior. But Ranger is boring, a weak Warrior so I would stay away from that.

No need to mash ‘1’, that is autocast when set.

3)???
4)Profit

Snark aside, what is with wanting ‘an easy’ character to level? Are you playing purely to level toons or to experience the game? This mindset is very different from mine so I’m curious as to the drive behind it.

It’s not that I want to play easy profession. It’s just that I have no choice. My fingers can’t reach the 6 to 0 skills and even if I try to set them to other buttons my fingers can’t press like Z X C and move/dodge at the same time. I really don’t see how people do it without a gaming mouse or keyboard.

I wish I could use more demanding classes though.

I have the same problem not being able to reach the keys easily.

I did a bit of research and it appears that most of the best players either rebind (and have really fast piano player type finger reactions) or have a gaming mouse/gamepad.

At the very least look for a 4+ button mouse, map dodge to the center button and your next most non movement related skill to button 4

If you do that you can probably play most classes quite easily.

This idea won’t change anything in the end. Profit is determined by supply and demand.

Crafting is mostly unprofitable because too many people craft simply to level up. Once that glut has gone away, it is possible that more items will become profitable to craft.

If not it is simply proof that people are willing to pay the loss in order to get XP without “grinding”.

I don’t really think spreading a rumor is anything like RL or should even be considered a scam. (not that I have done it) I saw some of my Guildies fall for the BLC bubble buying several Gold worth until I pointed out that each Chest required a key which cost about 1 Gold each to open. So having 10000 BLC wasn’t going to be easy to sell. I ended up using the bubble to dump a bunch of chests sitting in my inventory.

If you are intelligent you can actually profit from those speculation spikes. Takes time away from gaming though since you have to sit and watch the TP like a hawk.

No I meant 560ti because im not sure the 550ti will give you the performance boost your looking for.

If you are having poor fps when you are in events or WvW then its for sure the Cpu for pve a graphic upgrade should do well.

Actually, I have no problems at all visually in PvE or WvW even when there is a ton of stuff going on. (but of course my settings are on low).

My big issue right now is that for some reason it is overheating, so i figured, upgrade the card without breaking the budget.

Oh BTW I meant dual-link DVI required which is necessary for the Apple 2560×1600 res display. I would guess most newer cards have that standard.

But a gtx 560 ti should be fine and its not to expensive.

Hmm, well according to my Gadget and other utils, the CPU doesn’t go much past 50% load during play so I think the bottleneck is definitely the GPU.

No OC, case airflow is great, solid cable management, no dust, gpu cooler is working and seated fine, etc. Any other game I try I don’t spike that high, but turning on vsync helped, as I don’t need 150+ fps anyway.

I have had a similar problem on a lower perf GPU. Although mine started after the Oct 15 patch. No problems at all since headstart, then suddenly, PC shuts down after a while which I finally traced to overheating. Now I have to open the side of my PC and blow a portable fan inside just to run GW2 as before.

Sorry no solution, but wanted you to know I’m seeing temp spikes too.

I currently have a ATI Radeon HD4650

PC is HP Pavilion with AMD Phenom 2 Quad Core, 8GB mem. Win 7, 64 Bit

I am using it to power a 30" Apple Cinema Monitor which requires dual-link DVI output to run the 2560×1600 res display, and I run GW2 at fullscreen 1080p res.

It runs ok with GW2 on low setting, but recently I’ve been getting shutdowns which appear to be coming from overheating. I’m guessing something changed with Oct 15 patch to increase GPU load because that was when the problems started. GPU runs at 99%, CPU around 50%. (not overclocked)

Anyway I figured this would be a good time to see if there was a decent upgrade card available that would up the perf of GW2 at an affordable price.

Requirements:
One Dual-Link Dvi output (so I can drive the Apple Cinema Monitor at 2560×1600)
Under $100
At least 50% graphics performance boost (or it won’t be worth upgrading)

There are so many cards out there and some don’t work well with GW2 so I was hoping for some recommendations from the Techies out there.

FYI the temps listed above were without GW2 running, GPU temp leapt to over 170 deg F with the game running, CPU wnt up to around 120 def F. After I opened the side and put a small portable fan blowing in the temperature of the GPU stabilized to under 170 deg and CPU to under 115.

So far no crashes yet.

Hopefully this is the problem solution. Surprising that the Anet tech did not suggest an overheat problem with the shutdown as the symptom.

Could u provide more info like checking ur processor and graphics cards temperatures with this program http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

It sounds like somethings overheating if theres no error given during shutdown.

I ran Speccy (which is what the Anet techs asked me to do).

Anyway the CPU runs at around 117 deg F and the GPU runs at around 139 deg F.

You do make a good point though, perhaps the patch somehow increased CPU/GPU load and has upped the peak temp. Note I am not overclocking anything.

I’l try opening the side of the PC and blowing a fan at the insides. Totally hack solution for a problem that didn’t exist before, but if it works it will be worth it.

My PC has been really stable since Headstart, but after Oct 15 patch it randomly shuts down. Not in a nice way either – all of a sudden the PC turns off meaning that there is probably a lot of file corruption going on. (have had to do system restore a few times already)

I have tried all the recommended fixes, updated drivers, set ATI Catalyst settings as recommended by Anet. Tried windowed mode etc.

System is a HP Pavilion with
AMD Phenom II X4 830
8GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4650 (added after purchase of PC – upgraded power supply to match)
Win 7 64 Bit

No other application causes problems with my PC. I don’t overclock or use unusual add-on applications.

I have tried submitting a ticket to Anet Tech. But after several back and forth, the only thing they can suggest is that I update my drivers which I have and it still shuts off. Not immediately but sometime during the game even if all I’m doing is standing at the TP.

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this problem. It is not a Blue Screen or crash to desktop. The PC just shuts off without warning. In my experience typically this only happens if the application is trying to do something that will damage the system.

PS: still happens after the Oct 18 patch.

Why Easy Access of the Trading Post is Bad

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: NinjaKnight.1340

NinjaKnight.1340

It isn’t bad. It is simple supply and demand.

Take for example: Butter, when Anet increased demand for it by allowing it to be used in the Mystic Forge the price shot up despite the massive supply.; when they took it away it dropped to the minimum list-able price and it is still not moving very fast.

I personally don’t want to have to travel around with bags full, have to TP to a vendor or delete inventory. Whenever I can I do vendor low value items.

The real fix for this is to reduce drop rates (which would incite massive complaints) or increase demand. For example introduce new recipes using these oversupplied drops which create high value items.

Did get a response from Anet requesting more info and to try shutting down services to see if there is a conflict. Spent an hour+ getting all that together.

Still no solution. The biggest issue for me is that it doesn’t crash immediately (so I know thereis a problem) but sometime during the game and it SHUTS down the PC so my desktop which is at a higher res than the 1080p fullscreen gets messed up.

I should also repeat that this never happened ever before the Oct15 patch.

I understand that there appears to be a problem with Nvidia drivers, but my GPU is ATI.

It looks like GW2 is trying to write/access a protected memory location, so windows is probably shutting the PC down to protect it. Since this problem only seems to affect certain hardware I hear cries from some ATI/Nvidia users and possibly AMD?

It seems like very bad coding without error trapping by Anet, because usually Windows justs shuts down the misbehaved program not the entire PC.

i play a lot of spvp, wvwvw, and dungeon run.

in spvp (in a full game) i’m usually one the top 3 players on my team. It’s not just about killing but CP. i stay away from zergs and have about 3k in armor with 22k hp. i’ve been playing around using a shortbow:crit+toughnes+condition build. i’ve actually flatly exchanged sword 1 with a glass cannon thief (who blew his initiative) with a sword+warhorn and pretty much won at half health (basically a garbage thief though).

you can also get top kills easily as a sb ranger (when they are down just tag em and continue with the next person).

a ranger is under-powered but they aren’t unplayable. make due with what you have and try and play it as best as possible. i don’t want to roll an alt because i feel like i haven’t truly mastered being a ranger.

The last bit of this is exactly right, the ranger is badly under powered, but not unplayable.

No class in this game is unplayable.

The issue is that the OP is asking is the Ranger that bad? Well equally skilled players would find many other classes more powerful both in PvE and PvX.

I loved my Ranger and got it to 80, getting exotic gear just before the SB nerf. It was weak, the pet did run around uselessly while I kited PvE and I was getting pwnd in WvW unless I hung back and sniped but it was still playable. But after the nerf what was weak went to really un-fun.

A warrior with Rifle and GS is very similar to a Ranger in GS/LB playstyle but much much more powerful. The only thing it lacks is the machine gun fire of the SB, the one thing that made the Ranger fun for me.

There is no point, at all, in trying to craft anything unusual for profit for the TP.

Other than the preview feature, your other suggestions are bad.

Refunding listing fees would make it much easier for the pros to manipulate the market.

From what I can tell your reasons for crafting that item were flawed. You should have crafted it because YOU wanted it for yourself OR you should have studied the demand and likely selling price before crafting it.

Instead you gambled with no research and are angry because it didn’t sell at a price you felt was reasonable. If it really was that rare list it at your desired price and forget about it. It may sell one week or one month from your list date. There is no expiration date.

There are hundreds if not thousands of crafted items that sell for well below mat costs.

We need sell ranges and buy ranges.

It would make things unnecessarily complicated and the pros will find a way to take advantage of the range.

Undercutting will always happen on items that are plentiful which is why almost everything except the most wanted or difficult to get items are at 1+ vendor price.

On the less plentiful items prices go up and down. Sometimes you just have to be patient and wait a week or so (both on the buy and sell side). Sometimes on an item that is trending down permanently due to oversupply, you just dump it and cut your loss.

If you have ever been on Amazon and looked at used books or CDs you will see many listed at 1cent. This is what happens even in real life when there is oversupply.

Even in PvE a Warrior is better. If you face more than one mob and need to kite, the pet will run around uselessly. The warrior can go in there with one of its high DD aoe skills and wipe them all out. I find I can leap into a fairly big group of mob without dying on the Warrior. Not possible on a Ranger.

Only if there is a Vet do you have to be more careful to thin out the mob first on the Warrior.

The Ranger was almost ok at kiting before the nerf, but the 30% damage reduction really hit hard.

Yeah, I ended up going through the long winded support Ticket process with the 2 files they needed.

What bugs me is that they would release a poorly tested patch that messed up what had been a perfectly stable game on exactly the same hardware. Quad Core AMD Phenom, ATI Radeon, 8GB ram. Win 7 64Bit.

Up until the patch no problems, now it hard shuts down the PC which ends up messing up my desktop layout since I run fullscreen at a 1080i and my monitor is higher.

No other app on my PC does that.

Game Crashing Randomly after Patch

Today I have had the game crash several times already. The PC completely shuts down with no warning. There doesn’t seem to be any pattern, I can be playing normally then it will crash when I’m standing in Divinity’s reach by the Trader or a Vendor.

This NEVER happened before the most recent patch and I have not installed or upgraded any other programs. I have several hundred hours of play on the very same setup.

When I restart the PC it plays fine for a while then shuts down again.
