@ Paladine
I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
You as an “attorney” are arguing for the innocence of these Goldsellers. Either you are turning a blind eye or are incredibly naive. Do you really think the Chinese Gov would allow negative information about Goldselling sweatshops, prisoners etc. to get to the ears of a foreign visitor who may leak it back to the US?
A ton of accounts were hacked, most are hopefully shut down or returned by now. Maybe the early accumulated stolen Gold has now been moved through a chain of legit accounts. While the ones that haven’t been caught are still botting away. But the Gold was still originally stolen and laundered
IF I were running one of these scams that is probably what I would do.
@Paladine
Assuming you are technically correct, there is a difference between Gold sellers using hacked accounts to obtain their gold then selling through what you claim is a legal channel.
It is like buying stolen goods then laundering it through Amazon.
In either case the problem is that genuine players are being affected by the incompetency of Anets handling of the issue. DR for genuine players trying to get gear, or over priced Gem>G conversion.
You are wrongly assuming that all gold sellers are using hacked accounts. I very much doubt this is the case. Sure there may be some but there are certainly those that aren’t. Of course ANet/Blizzard etc. will play up that urban myth because it creates moral panic but don’t believe everything you read from an entity that has a commercial advantage in making you believe it
As I said, I am no fan of gold sellers or gold buyers and I hate the bots as much as the next guy – but that doesn’t mean they are not legally entitled, neither does it mean ANet (or any other MMO company) have the right to stop them doing business or are handling the bot problem in an efficient and/or satisfactory manner. I am merely posing my thoughts from a legal perspective.
Rofl, did you notice how many spam chats and mails came from hacked accounts? As soon as one got reported and blocked another popped up. Now it doesn’t take a genius to realize that every single one of those accounts was stripped of their gear and Gold.
No doubt their are a few genuine accounts, they need them to provide a legit looking front and to post on forums promoting their cause indirectly. Or to trade on the TP to multiply their Gold.
Most of the emails and spam I see are from fake accounts not hacked – those with names like ASDFASDF – same with the bots. Gold selling is a multi billion dollar industry, they can afford to register legit accounts.
I see you have been on Wikipedia. Multi billon industry if Wiki is accurate but across ALL the MMOs and world wide. Plus these companies are in it for the profit. Revenues =/= profit. a $60 perma banned account hits hard on the profitability.
And my e-mails, blocked spam chats have very playerish sounding usernames.
Bottom line there is a ton of profit to be made if you hack accounts and steal gold. Why do you think GW2 was hit so dang hard by hacked accounts? Do you really think all the complaints from players and all the anti-hack measures they had to rush to put into place were just for PR?
I didn’t go to Wikipedia actually, it was just an educated guess having some knowledge of how many people play MMOs and understanding the concept of supply and demand.
Also your assumptions are unfounded. You state it is not profitable for a $60 account to be used I would argue it probably is. If they reach a couple of hundred thousand players with their in game spam and just 0.1% of those players buy 10G at $16 a pop that is a net revenue of $3200 (and given how long it takes for ANet to ban these bots it is reasonable to suggest they can reach a substantial percentage of the player base before the account gets banned. Still think it isn’t profitable?
Now add into the equation all the out of game marketing, selling of items as well as gold and the state of the GW2 economy and you would have to be a fool to think it is not profitable.
As I said, undoubtedly some companies are using hacked accounts but to say they all is stretching it a little.
Your assumptions are simply that. You ASSUME it is a 0.1 response rate. I would argue it is MUCH lower. Besides spamming chat and e-mails they need accounts to be botting too. Also, the ave wage according to Wikipedia is around $145US per month per person (in China) so one account is almost half a persons wage. A huge percentage of cost compared to manpower.
BTW. I have a lot of experience with internet marketing. Spam (not opt-in) marketing has a horrendously low response rate. People are conditioned to simply delete spam mail. Add to that the fact that there is so much talk of the ability to track and eventually permaban Gold buyers, only the dumbest players with more money than sense would respond.

Ninja u are all wrong, Magic find increases the chance of getting better drops, it does not increase the number of drops you get.
And getting past 100% is worth it, i use wep mods that give 0,6% more per kill, stacking up to 25 kills.
And your source is?
If rare drops is 2% before MF then it becomes 4% at 100% MF that is an increase. Double the drop rate.
I think I bought a top that looked very similar from a Heart Karma merchant in the Norn 30s area, while I was exploring on my human ranger.
One more thing. because of the heavy reliance on constant movement you don’t have time to stop and type.
There should have been a built-in voice comm system from the start. As it is if you are in a Guild with vent you already have it set up. With random players no.
NO, the game has got stale for me. Even though I haven’t even come close to completing the map.
The main problem is all the nerfing, lack of population at DEs, and as others have said lack of the feeling of reward (once you get to 80). I could level up a different class but because of all their nerfing I am leery of putting any time into a class, only to see a skill I liked nerfed to hell and back.
I will play a bit here and there but like many others the rush I had in the beginning has faded.
Only Anet knows the truth from the stats. Frequency, duration of people logging in, etc.
All I can say is most of the zones i used to play in are deserted. Server feels like a lot of players left or are playing much less.
That “silence” speaks volumes.
Orr is a MAJOR letdown. Fun for a bit then grind grind grind and every place is full of desert and undead.
In this game there is no need to group except for Dungeons or PvX. Even so it is easier to just play with Guildies.
Random players coming up to you to invite, what for? I did accept a couple of times and it was a bad experience. They were demanding and unhelpful.

@Alynda
Don’t post if you have no clue what you are talking about. Sure the SB shoots fast, but the damage per shot is very low. That is why the nerf is so bad.
It is like saying OMG that peashooter is so OP because it shoots so fast while that Bazooka is UP because it is so slow.

Also, I’m sure they could easily find a way to go through US proxy servers or remotely run a bank of cheap local PCs if it comes to IP banning. Blanket dumb responses such as the DR nerf, only work to hurt genuine players. The Gold sellers are intelligent humans who immediately figure out ways to get around the blanket attempt to block them.
NO. And I actually put $80 into it.
At one point I felt like I was going to get more than my money’s worth, then the poorly implemented class nerfs, diminishing return issues, etc. made the game not fun and I’m feeling that I want much of my time back.
Heck the other day I was in Orr at a camp which regularly got sieged. I was eating so I would go out and auto-attack a bit and then return to a safe spot. I was till moving randomly, nothing like the stationary bots you see around.
All of a sudden my drops went to junk. Holy crap, is the system so stupid it can’t recognize the difference between a real bot and a player eating.
From what I’m reading on the forums, the “relaxation” of DR is still nerfing legitimate farmers.
Fight fire with fire I say.
So we have lots of Gold sellers out there, most likely obtaining their gold using bots and cheap labor in China+ hacked accounts.
If Anet were to just hire a bunch of those people at a 10%+ increase in wage (still peanuts by US standards) to go track down and shut down the bots and accounts involved, the problem would be solved without genuine players being affected. Most of those Gold seller companies are tiny compared to Anet and their massive $ warchest from their 2 million+ players.
In my opinion they need to separate, sPvp, WvW and PvE balancing.
PvE and WvW especially use bought/farmed gear that can take forever to get. (not to mention the time it takes to level the char) Then because SPvP which is free gear, insta lvl 80, has an OP class the PvE and WvW players get shafted.
(edited by NinjaKnight.1340)
I’m no expert this is just what I found when I was researching what MF was. I dunno if there is a max MF%. I think there are some people who claim they are running around with near 200% MF. But to get much past 100% it will cost a ton and unless you are a pro farmer, it won’t be worth it. Also, remember you are giving up other stats to get MF. So your play experience suffers. Less power etc.
MF affects grinding/mob drops ONLY. So you will get more dye drops but opening them should stay just as random. No double dipping there,
Some people claim they have seen better loot from chests etc. but there is no real evidence.
100% MF doubles your likelihood of drops when grinding. Does not affect anything else.
So if you are getting say 1G of loot per hr, it will increase to 2G with 100% MF (or some linear percentage if you have more or less MF% than 100)
Get armor, trinkets, runes with MF% and total it up. Food with +MF also works.
Even A ranger after their SB nerf is more fun to play.. and ranger is arguably the most boring class in the game..
all they have to do Is spam auto attack for seriously OP dammage.
What have you been drinking? Or have you never played a Ranger.
Ele does way more damage than Ranger if you know how to play it. Rangers have no burst damage. SB was the only weapon worth playing on ranger if you spec everything into Power/precision.
Now Thief, that can put out some burst damage, (until they nerf that).
I’m switching to another class, prob Ele or Thief, might try Guardian.
I like the Ranger for relaxing play but when I see my fav weapon nerfed so much after I spent so much time farming to afford gear to boost it up to a decent damage level, it makes me sick.
I’m also in fear of when they will nerf the Thief. The Ele and Guardian forum is already in a big uproar about their nerfs.
Back to topic pls, any info on this? Im trying to find out will they fix it coz if not ill use this as excuse to quit for good, i had enough of Gw2 problems….
As far as I can tell the last official info was from JonPeters (Dev)
’ll take a look on live right now! October 08, 2012 03:12
Devs are probably mostly on vacation (Columbus Day) and the few that are still working are probably being hammered by all the other complaints caused by the patch.
As for me I will put my Ranger on the shelf for now and level up another class.
Although, I’m in fear that any other class I choose will also end up getting massively nerfed.
I believe that the SB with QZ was the closest thing to Burst damage we had as a Ranger. But they “accidentally” nerfed it by up to 30%.
Before the Nerf my ranger could take down easy mob in about 3-4 seconds. Exotic Short Bow, Berserker gear Power/Precision build, Bloodlust Sigil. But I could definitely not take down any other player like that.
Then I came across this video, it is a sPvP Thief build being discussed in the general forum ATM. And I was “holy crap”. In a nutshell it shows the Thief killing other players in 1-2 seconds. THAT is what I call BURST Damage.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-udk3CEtc7E
It isn’t that we’re upset because they “dared to nerf us”. It’s that they nerfed us and didn’t bother fixing any of the important bugs.
Oh, and if Ranger is a “beginner” class, explain why Guardians get a heal for their entire health bar, explain why Mesmers have clones and phantasms to tank damage for them, explain why Necros have DS and minions, explain why Warriors have the highest health and armor in the game, explain why Engineers have all those turrets and kits, explain why Thieves have all their stealth skills, explain the massive amount of skills Elementalists get, and explain why every class isn’t just handed a sword and told to “get out there”. This game is about variety. Every class has the same potential, just different ways of doing it. Rangers have pets to tank for them because they don’t have naturally high health and armor, they don’t have stealth, they don’t have a million minions or full heals or a secondary health bar they charge by attacking, they don’t have turrets. And you know, pets aren’t even that strong to begin with.
Please, do go on about how easy-mode Rangers are.
Rangers are beginner class bcause it doesn’t take much skill to survive and explore PvE. That’s mainly what I meant.
But I also mean that in PvP/WvW you don’t have anywhere as many playstyle options.
Mesmer phantasms are weak as hell and disappear after every kill, not a tank, simply meant to confuse. But they have some pretty nasty PvP skills. Eles have the largest selection of skills of any class and have 4 elements they can switch into during battle. Etc.
I’m not an expert but I watch friends who are good and you can also watch vids on Youtube (make sure you aren’t watching beta pre-GS neff ones) and I’m in awe of how fast and easily a good player with one of the other classes can kill.
Rangers can only wear down an opponent since they have low burst damage. Most of my kills come from sniping an already wounded player. Kinda lame.
I’m learning an Ele now and holy crap, dual dagger played right is a killing machine but you need to concentrate like hell and my fingers are moving like crazy.
So thats thats what I mean by Ranger is a beginner class especially in PvE.
Didnt know interrupting things, having to control a stupid AI, positioning myself to flank the target to get the full potential of my basic attack and trying to line up targets to mass snare with one arrow was a lack of skill.
My bad, I apologize for thinking that rangers required skill to be good rangers.
Sure you CAN play a Ranger with skill, but if you are that good put that skill into another class and you will get a lot more out of it. You do realize that most other classes also have interrupt skills. Ele has I think 3 or 4 you can chain if you are fast enough, they also have that line of fire thing which can be very affective with a lined up group of targets.
Beginner class is for survivabilty for bad players. As a ranger you can send a tank pet out and kill several mob without even moving from your spot.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the Ranger class (because I’m a mediocre player coming from MMOs where you stand still and cast, having to learn how to make my char dance around while fighting). But i still see how easy the Ranger is when I switch to an Ele or Mesmer alt. They take more work to be good. But when they are good they are really good.
Its strange you say that, I find the ranger to be one of the most complex classes in spvp.
Other classes have their gimicky burst combos, but with ranger you have to be able to kite and position yourself well, while at the same time trying to coordinate your pet and utility skills or on weapon swap rune abilities to gradually wear down the enemy.
It would be even more fun if you could more easily pull off pet based combo’s like Chilly mentioned though.
Lol, if your idea of complex is finding a way to stay alive and wear down a badly played class with a mass of combos designed to make up for the ranger bugs eg. pet., and low burst dmg. Then yes I guess it is complex.
But I really don’t think complexity should be a function of how to make up for the shortcomings of an underpowerd class.
It isn’t that we’re upset because they “dared to nerf us”. It’s that they nerfed us and didn’t bother fixing any of the important bugs.

Time to throw in my 2 cents.
But first my credentials:
Level 80 Ranger currently in Malchor’s Leap
No Dungeon experience
Rank 6 PvP
~160 Hours logged as Ranger.I just got back from 3 games of sPvP W/L is 2/1
Placed in the bottom third in the first win and about 4th in the second.
I didn’t notice any MAJOR performance change. The shorbow is doing as good/bad as it was doing before despite shooting slower. QZ is definitely slower. No numbers to back this, only anecdotal experience.I’m just an average schmuck who happens to like rangers. I don’t have any technical or experienced background in the game, and I’m as dumb as a rock. However, I, as a casual player, still feel that the class is still playable. If some skill-less noob like me manages to pull off 5 kills in PvP against some of the “unlosable” professions like Warrior or Mesmer, I think it shows that people are blowing this out of proportion. Either that or I faced off against 3 trash teams in a row. But then why wasn’t everyone else scoring 200+ points vs my ~85?
In conclusion:
On the bright side we still have our defense and utility. I’d like to see a warrior dodge with this rifle, or interrupt someone stomping a teammate. And Hide in Plain Sight/Shared Anguish has helped me escape near deaths to recoup and exact revenge numerous times. Also 1v1s are fine for the most part. We’re not killing anyone, at least in a timely fashion, but we’re not getting rolled either. Thank goodness Anet hasn’t touched oursuperb kiting ability, yet.
If there is one thing they got right, this game does depend heavily on skill. Movement and twich reflexes. So the nerf probably got buried in your experience because you were just a little bit better than the other team. Also, team cooperation makes a huge difference vs. solo play when you are weak like the Ranger.
As you said 1v1 you aren’t killing anyone in a timely fashion. There are other classes which can kill VERY fast 1v1 if played right.
Let’s face it. Ranger is a beginner class. Easy PvE. Typical tank with pet kill from a distance.
I was really excited to start PVe/WvW after watching a YouTube sPvP vid. GS/LB – unfortunately I didn’t realize it was a beta vid until I was wondering why my GS was so weak.
Having been in and watched friends play other classes in WvW and sPvP, not even the un-nerfed SB woul be competitive with similarly skilled players of other classes.
At the very least let us use the Ranger for relaxed PvE, by unnerfng the SB.
No idea. We were told last night they would look at it, and then its been crickets.
In all fairness, today is a holiday in the USA. So I’m personally going to cut them some slack for today. That said, whatever response we get (or don’t get) from the devs after today will be telling. This is a major concern for rangers. If nothing else, we just want honesty. At least I do. Whether I agree with their eventual response or don’t agree, if I get the truth, then I can go forward and make decisions based on the facts rather than conjuncture. If they say nothing, on the other hand, then I spent my entertainment dollars in the wrong place. I can’t see them ignoring this, though. We’ll just have to wait and see if we get an official response tomorrow.
FYI, it is Columbus day in the US which is pretty much a holiday only for the laziest Gov institutions. Schools are open as are practically every other business.
With such an uproar about this they could have at least made a post that recognized it is indeed an error and WILL be fixed. Instead all we have so far from Peters is “I will look into it”.
It’s still only 2 arrows every minute you lost. So I guess two potential crits and 2 additional stacks of bleeds. That’s not really that much in terms of damage.
However QZ is pretty messed up and should be fixed.
Did they nerf our overall dmg and crit chance?
You are assuming your reduction in normal firing rate is corrrect, I have doubts about that.
Even so you asked for the math proof, There is proof that it is more than 0.04, due to the crit stacking even if your numbers are corrrect. There is also reduction in crit triggered healing boons which isn’t being discussed.
I’m not able to play and test it out atm. But before I came on the forum and found out about the nerf, yesterday after the patch I was surprised to die at an event which i should have survived easily.
Used to fire 120 arrows in 60 seconds
Now fires 118 arrows in 60 seconds. That actaully is a .04 nerf. I still dont understand why anyone can’t actually use math.
QZ used to fire 16 arrows in 4 seconds just spamming SB #1.
16 arrows devided by 4 is 4 arrows a second with QZ
Since QZ is 100% haste that means 2 arrows a second without. That means 120 arrows in 60 seconds.
Now in game I get 118 arrows in 60 seconds.
I’ve spent hours watching ranger videos on youtube to see what everyone else here is seeing but every single ranger video that had full uptime on a player or mob shows exactly 16 arrows during the course of a QZ.
I have no idea how anyone else is getting their number but i’d love for somone to actually prove my math wrong. I really don’t mind getting buffed but using a “supposed” nerf more then they said as a way of getting it means they will not listen to us.
However they did nerf QZ with shortbow because that NOW generates 12 arrows which is much more then the .04 nerf. Our regular auto attack was not nerfed more then indicated
Do you bother to read the thread? Apart from the QZ nerf there is a stacking effect due to the reduced crit and bleed. If you spec your Ranger to grant various damage boons during a crit, that will go down. So overall the effect is huge.
Fyi, I’m generally not refering to the 10% likelihood boons on crit but 50%+ likelihood which are available on some high level foods and through other methods.
There is Midnight Ice and Midnight Fire, both very Black. Midnight Ice has a very slight Bluish Hue, Midnight Fire has a Reddish Hue.
Note, how it looks depends on the gear it is on. I bought Midnight Fire at some low level for medium armor and it looked dark brown. Midnight Ice looked grey black on the same armor. It didn’t look deep black until i got to the level of Noble armor and above. Even then some high level armor still looks greyish. I have no idea if Abyss fixes that.
we found that we should all reroll thief or warrior. /sigh
Not like fixing the longbow was ever an option.
I’m trying to be patient before I succumb to that conclusion myself.
I’m giving Arenanet the benefit of the doubt here that they did not intentionally nerf the only decent Ranger weapon just to “fix” an animation issue – SURELY they would have FIXED THE ANIMATION…
Someone complained about the animation which practically no-one else noticed. Devs are overworked fixing bugs etc. Some Noob dev suggests easy code fix 40ms delay will cross this off our list. (No one will notice because theoretically 40ms is so small it shouldn’t affect anything.) They agree and implement without testing ot consulting pro Ranger players.
Then bam massive backlash when the true effect of the “miniscule” cosmetic fix is discovered by players.
This is what happens when fixes are rushed and not tested. Could also be that the animation team didn’t consult much if at all with the team that actually works on the class balance.
i am not understanding this at all in my experience the sword has been my best source of damage for pvp anyhow short bow was good for utility and some decent burst, but to say that it was our best source of damage and now its completely gone is very very inaccurate. my build with ranger not only has some decent killing power but is not crit based/glass cannon build
it is power toughness and viality and with an emphasis on sword/warhorn which in combination with QZ can be great burst i swap to shortbow for when targets are out of my range and hunters call is down. i can survive most burst specs with my utility choices and have enough health if i screw up to take a hit or 2 this small change does not affect me or my ability to kill people with ranger, unfortunately people are too wrapped up in crossfire spam to actually see how to use all of your abilities to actually survive, kill ,and win games
on the other hand spirits and pet UI is completely screwed up so when they fix those i think Ranger is going to be even more powerful that it already is
Most rangers i’ve seen in PvE at least use SB. PvE has most of the players. Ranger is a Pet ranged class. Send in the pet as a tank fire from a distance. An easy beginner class.
Now there are ways to play it differently with different weapons but if you prefer to melee, there are much better melee classes for Pvp and PvE. Most of them take more skill to master so that is why some of the good Rangers can claim to pwn the other classes. But equally skilled players of different classes will generally pwn Rangers.
I’m leveling up an Ele and she is WAY more powerful than the ranger When played right. Takes a lot more skill. I go to my Ranger when i want a relaxing change. But for get serious PvP/WvW on it.
This is why most Rangers are angry.
@seras
That doesn’t mean they are new colors. It just means they have collected the Fall hues together in an exclusive pack.
If you go in game RIGHT NOW you’ll find a total of 117 to 118 arrows in 60 seconds. This is NOT a 30% decrease in damage.
However QZ only shoots 12 arrows now so THIS is where a nerf is.
People can claim that i’m ignorant or whatever but I have math ACTUAL math on my side. Math that can NOT be disputed unless you’re an idiot or just a troll.
Assuming your numbers are correct, you are admitting a decrease in firing rate. So yes direct damage decrease is not 30% decreased, but unless you really don’t know how to play a Ranger, you will realize that most rangers are spec’d to have a high crit rate and they spec abilities that deal damage on crit. This is where it extra nerfing comes from + the damge reduction from reduced bleed stacking.
And for the recent post about SB being OP? OMG. are you serious?
A decent Elementalist build for example will WAY outdamage a Ranger PvE and especially PvP. Takes a little more skill, but they have the closing abilities (ride lightning + the fire one) , multiple stun, knockdown abilities (updraft and a few others, can remember the names) and really high DD and condition dmg. Burn doesn’t require stacking like bleed to get max dmg, only to increase duration.
Ranger is a beginner class, it needs all the help it can get.
@ plague,
100% MF doubles your loot %. So if someone farms a lot 1G of loot per hr becomes 2G.
It can pay back but at the cost of play enjoyment since you have to carry 2 sets of armor or have to play with nerfed armor (MF instead of your prefered stat)
So yeah, it is a bad thing to have in the game.
just got done testing the change out in sPVP nothing to see here it is slower but it is not much different than before, still kill the same as i did before and i still am able to do the same things i was able to before, i guess if all i did was crossfire spam then maybe…just maybe it would affect me but since i dont then it is not that big of a deal.
Ranger is not a decent sPvP or WvW class. If you can even kill anyone in sPvP with a Ranger SB they must suck.
Ranger is good for beginner casual PvE, relaxing. But now they have made it even worse with this bug.
1. Login to ur acc.
2. Make ranger lvl 80 , full gear it.
3. Relog on acc.
4. Delete ranger and make any other class, best mesmer or guardian
5. Go pvp.
/sarcasm off
I think the best choice would be to go full cond, kite kite kite. Using root and slow helps a lot . Never ;et anyone close to you and dodge anytime u can.
Prolly best idea is to stay behind and do dmg from behind ur party “tanks”.
Good luck !
In sPvp (and WvW) against anyone decent this won’t work. You can’t kite classes which have much better swift boosts and massive burst damage. Almost all classes have decent stability and condition removal abilities.
People are asking for too much, race sex etc. changes add much more complexity and time. Think about the demand for name changes after sex changes for example. Race changes affect abilities ex. Norn elite skill.
I for one would rather just get a simple makeover kit NOW for my current race and sex so i can change my dang hair color and hairstyle and a few other minor things.
Keep things simple and we might get it faster.
Best Pvp strategy for Ranger. Switch to a different class. Seriously.
I watched a friend play her Ele in WvW today and I almost cried when I saw how much more damage she was putting out compared to my Ranger.
Rangers are good for solo PvE in easy areas. Good PvE beginner class.
It used to be good for PvP in Beta before the GS was overnerfed. Now it is a beginner class.
(and don’t forget about the Shortbow nerf with the recent patch)
My guardian is a kitten when it comes to range… so I roll a ranger… now that he is 40 we get this…. WHY?!
I liked the short bow because of the feel, I like fast weapons. I cannot stand slow weapons.
I really think this was a BIG mistake by the dev team. I’m pretty sure if they realized that under certain builds the damage nerf would be so huge they wouldn’t have implemented it OR they would have said it was a nerf not an “animation” fix.
So guys keep posting and reporting it as a bug and it might get some attention.
BTW, guys, please don’t forget to post about this in the Ranger BUG thread at the top of this. It has to be a bug since the patch was supposed to be cosmetic fix not a damage nerf.
Bug with Shortbow patch. The 40ms Crossfire delay designed to fix the animation glitch (which I never even noticed) has massively Nerfed the damage output of the SB.
In the forum there are many threads where players have tested the difference and under certain conditions, this cosmetic patch has reduced reported damage output by as much as 30% and has made the SB feel noticably slower.
GS is crap. lvl 20 gives you absolutely no idea as to what things feel like at higher level. Only reason to equip it IMHO is to get that leapforward skill for fun. It used to be great in beta, but they overnerfed it pre-launch.
In easy areas, I might equip a GS, knock down the mob HP with SB and finish it off with the GS due to the cool animations. But that is only for fun. Any difficult areas and you are prob better with non-GS.
But now SB has been unintentionally nerfed by the latest patch, well, ranger is starting to get even less powerful.
Other classes if played right are way more powerful, PvE and especially PvP.

What SB glitch? Never noticed it ever.
Please fix. SB is my fav Ranger weapon and the “unintended” nerf is massive on an already underpowered class.
If you want to fix a glitch fix the Pet glitches first.
if you can’t decide. Try the other classes. You can create a newbie toon then go to the sPvP training areas and see what it feels like at lvl 80.
I know what you mean by the lvl 80 leveling burnout and i’m really angry at the Shortbow nerf for the Ranger. (which Anet claims isn’t a nerf but an animation fix. Big boo boo there if so)
I play a SB ranger with GS as well, I can kill trash in Orr just fine, Im not a glass cannon though. Ive used sword, axe and torch, and Ive Pvped with them all and done as well as my skill level with them all..Im not an elite PvPer, Im above average, nowhere near the best. I do think Rangers need help, I dont think SB is the only viable weapon, I think its the only thing we had that kept up with Thief Sword/pistol..which btw got nerfed too..and Mesmer Phantasms….which btw got nerfed..or burning/symbol GS Guardian..which btw got nerfed..oh wow look…LOTS OF classes got nerfed, not just us.
If they truly meant to Nerf SB then come out and say it, not pretend it was an animation fix, which didn’t need to be fixed in my opinion. I didn’t even notice there was a problem.
As it is Rangers are one of the least competitive in PvP, having massively nerfed GS after beta.
OMG, Anet please fix this. I NEVER noticed any problems with animation.
Shortbow is my favorite Ranger weapon and was the first to upgrade and the one I spent the most on when I reached lvl 80. Exotic with +Power/Precision and my build also depends on stuff proccing during crits. So if the firing rate diminished, so does the frequency of my crit and the damage/heal procs.
Why did I spend so much? Because the lower quality weapons do squat damage on an already underpowered weapon (compared to other classes).
Now if the reports of as much as 30% nerf are true, this has got to be a really massive screwup by the devs. 40ms doesn’t sound like much so they probably didn’t bother to properly test the effects of their nerf.
Please please fix it.
