I’m starting to feel the same way.
It does help to have at least one favorite that you level up because the storyline does progress. Doing several chars up to level 30 is really boring because the story 1-30 is very similar for any profession and it starts to feel like a grind.
For me the one I leveled was human Ranger, it was originally my last choice, but surprisingly I actually liked it best for long term play.
You may find a different class race more to your liking.
Yes agreed, favorite sets saved for each piece of armor.
It has come to my attention that the frequency of DEs has reduced because the population has spread out and everyone isn’t going around talking to NPCs.
Apparently, many if not all DEs are triggered by talking to an NPC.
This stinks of old fashioned talk to X NPC to get quest, only in other MMOs there is usually a big sign above their head and often on the map to lead you to them.
I suggest that there should be a random timer that sets off events at a fairly decent interval as long as there is at least one player nearby.
You guys do know that when an npc yells at you or waves and says something like there’s fighting at X or excuse me a moment or can you help me etc that if you stop and talk to them and say you’ll help it will trigger events to start right?
EDIT: Not to mention the kill the troll champion event I triggered in beta because I tried to pick up this shiny troll thing off the ground
I am somewhat aware of it but I thought it only occurred in deserted areas, ie: a packhorse stopped on the road so it is kinda obvious something needs to be triggered.
This is a very bad mechanic because it makes it NOT a dynamic event but simply a talk to NPC trigger quest event. It makes GW2 no different than many other MMOs, but MUCH worse because there is nothing to indicate where they are unless you happen to run right into them.
Example of total newbie area DE problem. Shaemore starting area, Bandit bridge blockade event. (lvl 2-3?) It used to occur all the time. Now it rarely occurs. Which NPC do you talk to to trigger it? Are Noobs to the game supposed to know that?
Also, the area wasn’t exactly deserted either.
Some DE’s require someone to actually initiate them by speaking to a specific NPC. Earlier when all zones were so full they went to overflows, there were more people interacting with NPC’s and triggering DE’s. This lack of triggering, combined with some DE’s being bugged makes it ‘seem’ like there are less. The game is still new, I’m sure that over time people will work out how to trigger every single DE, and when that happens a quick trip to the wiki will help.
This is a bad mechanic because it makes it NOT a dynamic event but simply a talk to NPC trigger quest event.
No different than many other MMOs, but MUCH worse because there is nothing to indicate where they are unless you happen to run right into them.
But yes the number of DEs feel like they are much less and leveling alt low levels is SLOW and grindy.
Ok, so I am a bit confused here, I am seeing quite a few people against a matchmaking system…However, how is a matchmaking system any different than yelling in chat for
random people (that you also don’t know btw)? Honestly, I don’t know if the random person I am inviting knows how to play or not…The only difference,in my head anyhow, is that one could just queue up and continue to play until they are in, instead of having to sit in a city or in front of a dungeon yelling for more members, etc which is not fun imho.
I have a feeling that the people against this are the elitists/hardcore players.
But the thing is this will be OPTIONAL, so why not allow it.
It is somewhat like the sPvP matching where you can go in with 5v5 that you choose or simply join in a random 8v8 if you don’t have a group.
I just deleted my Necro to try out a Mesmer. I’m finding it ridiculously slow to level mainly because I can’t find DEs as often as I used to.
The first couple of times through the low levels I didn’t mind but now I know most areas and quests, it is MAJOR tedium to grind. At lvl 5 you get a measly 8 xp per kill and running around to unlock waypoints is SLOW without a mount or speed boost.
Many low level areas I used to find DEs often rarely have them.
The stupid thing is the areas that have regular DEs are the ones that are chock full of BOTs and usually are at higher levels.
Does anyone else find this same problem?
I somewhat agree. Playing a dual dagger Ele really gets your adrenaline going. High Risk/Reward and very fast paced.
Either you end up wiping out the mob really fast or you die.
I do like my Ranger though when I want less stress on my heart.
I personally think ele’s are underwhelming when it comes to damage. Mine is at 80 and I feel underpowered. I don’t have the top #1 tier gear in the game, but anything more than 2 mobs gives me a run for my money in Orr.
Check out the Woodenpotatoes Ele build video on Youtube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PKPbboLqzM
He shows how to get almost constant gigantic stack of boons and might. His play skill is well beyond mine but it does show it can be done.
I don’t think it has aggro mechanics the same way other MMOs but it seems to me that the character that is damaging the mob the most at the time gets its attention.
Makes sense, if I were the mob, who would I try to get rid of first? The one who is most likely to kill me.
I’ve found the Elementalist damage to be fairly low across the board, but in water, it’s almost ineffectual. My other characters seem to be able to operate underwater fairly effectively, and if I’m in Orr with my Ranger, I actually prefer to travel underwater because it’s safer. My Elementalist though — I avoid the water at all costs.
I’m not sure about underwater, but on land a Glass Cannon dual dagger build has incredibly high damage. Very risky build and you have to be moving constantly.
I just tried that out recently after watching a Youtube video and it was extremely fun and I started playing my Ele again.
I noticed that the main thing that determines aggro seems to be how much DPS you do. I play a very high DD Glass Cannon Ranger and Elementalist and no one else usually seems to be able to keep the mob from running towards me.
Some classes can do much more damage per hit but because my hits are so fast and consistent on my Ranger for example, I appear to be doing much more consistent damage which makes the mob hate me. Of course this depends on who I’m around, there are probably players with builds of other classes and the skill to out damage me.
I just tried out an Glass Cannon Dual Dagger build on my lvl20 Ele which had been on the shelf because I got very bored of the Staff builds (and was leveling my Ranger instead and learning how to move around).
I have to say it was the most fun I have had for a while. It is a very risky build, a few mistakes and I’m dead, but when I’m playing it well I kill faster than any other class I’ve ever tried.
So my current build is almost all in Power/Precision, with Sigil of Bloodlust, Rune of Mesmer and I forget but other Runes that are mainly + Power/Precision.
My Trait points are 10 in Air Magic for mobility.
Typically my strategy is to Ride the lightning into the mob use attack #2, 3 and autoattack 1,and if it is weak just strafe around it until it is dead. If it is strong or there are multiple mob, I switch to Fire and just burn everything while circle strafing.
FYI, most mob die within 1-2 seconds with my current build so I don’t think a condition build is helpful. In fact it is very funny to see my mob die before staff eles even get to finish casting at them.
In Kessex Hills most of the time ATM.
Now that I’m getting a few more Trait points I’m wondering where best to put them to be a bit less Glass Cannony. Any tips and also strategies would be much appreciated. (lvl 20-30 Ele, no high level build/tips pls)
Different Underwear Choices
Now I know what you’re thinking. But there is a logical reason for this, trust me. When our armor breaks, it vanishes. So we end up running around in our underwear for a limited time till we get it repaired.
Are you sure about this? I’ve had my armor break several times and I have never seen myself in underwear.
Although, I have usually not let more than 3 pieces break.
a lfg system would be bad I lost 50s in ac today. Myself lv 80 and 3 lv 35 and one lv 75 these guys were bad players did not follow marks didnt listen to walkthroughs but appart from that they could not do much dps. So i for one will no longer group with anything but 80s from now on; im sure alot of people feel the same way.
As I said in the original post this isn’t for hard core players or elitists, although it could be made to specify minimum level and number of times completed, to match similar level players.
AC is a freaking level 30 dungeon. A Hard one true, but if you have to be level 80 just to go into it, it is pointless allowing people to try at lvl 30.
My daughter would have been happy to go in at 30 and potentially get mauled just to see how it was. (not my play style but, hey she is tough and really good at games)
I intend on trying this when I reach level 30, but I am going to be asking for some Guild Members to help. She should really join a Guild, because that’s the whole point of the game. No match system will be able to predict how players are going to react when they go inside of the Dungeon. People are people, and a lot of people aren’t going to listen or try to strategize when going into a Dungeon. Instead, she should just join a Guild, introduce herself, and when she can talk in there, even if she’s roaming the map. That’s how it works. If she has time to play the game, she has to time to join a Guild – it only takes a few seconds.
And then, she doesn’t even need to make friends. Being in a Guild automatically gives you friends. Even the other members don’t know you, they will help you. She can just ask for help with a Dungeon, and guild members will help. Just a suggestion for her, personally.
She is in a Guild but as I said she doesn’t have enough play time to get into a good one and many smaller Guilds don’t have enough players online at one time who want to do a dungeon.
The matching system is optional so why not allow those who want to be matched use one?
Waypoint cost is there so you can make the decision to wait for a player to rez you (to save the cost) or pay for the convenience of waypointing.
There is enough gold sink in this game. I have to agree the waypoints should go. After all the teleport system in GW1 didn’t cost anything.
This isn’t GW1. I hated GW1 but I like GW2.
Discount the costs but I don’t think they should be totally free.

Also, they said that waypoint traveling cost was supposed to be TRIVIAL. The way it is now, it costs more than an event gives you, even with a gold rating(?).
I always make way more on an event than the WP cost. The only exception usually is when the event is one Champion boss or I die multiple times.
The amount you make is dependent mainly on how many mob you kill. If you are with a decent sized group the mob go down reasonably fast and before you know it your inventory is full.
One tip is to map your F key to either the middle or 4th mouse button (if you have a 4 button mouse) That way you can be strafing around killing mob without having to stop while you pick up loot.
That being said, I think perhaps the costs should go down a bit, perhaps 20-50% less. I don’t think they should go away altogether though. Gold sinks are good, and this is a convenience not a necessity.
Since dungeons require a group, a matching system similar to the sPvP one is required.
My daughter who has limited playtime got her character to lvl 30 with the goal to try AC — only to find she couldn’t get a group for AC even though she asked in map chat several times. Not a single response.
She isn’t able to play often enough to get a steady group of friends or get into a good Guild. She is a skilled MMO player so I think she would handle AC ok.
This idea is NOT MEANT for hardcore players who have regular friends. This is for the more casual players which are the majority. Although this could work for hardcore players by matching with similar skilled players. So hardcore players could be matched up with those who are above a certain level and have completed the dungeon a certain number of times. This would eliminate the problem of elitists being nasty to the Noobs in the group.
they already said no
Please indicate where Anet already said no to this idea.
If indeed they are totally inflexible, then they aren’t listening to their players.
Very bad idea. It would be similar to saying that a rich person should pay more to get into the same taxi as a poor person.
I don’t see anything intrinsically “very bad” about this in a MMO. In fact, as I already pointed out, this is already built into RPG’s from the very beginning: the higher level you are, the more things cost you. By your analogy, this is similar to saying that an older/more experienced/more successful/etc person shouldn’t have to pay more for the same taxi as a younger/less experienced/less successful person, which, yes in the real world does seem ridiculous, but is something everyone is accustomed to in RPGs.
If I’m not mistaken, traveling in higher level areas is more expensive so it is progressive in that sense.
You guys should read the OP post. He/she is saying that downleveling makes her feel underpowered. You should be suggesting how the OP can fix her problem.
I like the idea but it should have similarities to having to go to a Trainer and paying to have the Traits reset. – Most definitely there should be a cost and be out of combat or it would completely change the way the game is played.
ATM, I have to write down or guess what my last set was.
I don’t mind paying and I don’t mind running to an NPC but why make it so difficult to restore a favorite Trait sets?
It’s easy, use WP’s as a progressive tax: those who have more gold should pay more, for those with less WP should be cheaper (or free). This is already the intention of ANet by making higher level areas more costly.
There may even be a beneficial side-effect: People spending instead of hoarding gold.Another option is the opportunity to buy a “day pass” to receive free WP travel over a set period of IRL time.
Very bad idea. It would be similar to saying that a rich person should pay more to get into the same taxi as a poor person.
Gold “hoarding” may sometimes be necessary if you are looking to save up for something. Besides, players would simply find ways to spread out their Gold to get around the progressive tax.
On the other hand if there was some kind of benefit to paying more, some kind of boon or XP boost, this would be like buying a 1st class ticket instead of economy.
Thanks for sharing, but the pic looks more like steel than white. Does white dye also give a similar look?
While I am tempted to like this idea, since I have played games with it, I don’t think it would be good for GW2.
The reason is due to the fight mechanics. Strafing facing the mob while attacking is so important in this game. I was forced to learn how to do it well because I couldn’t click to move.
I don’t think there would be a good way to Circle strafe with click to move. That is probably why they took it out.
So you pay 3 silver to teleport to your friend and make 10 silver in loot. That is 7 Silver profit, while having fun. I FAIL to see what you are complaining about.
As I said before 3s is only cost of teleporting to anyone I want to help, But helping means using teleports again and again. I also mentioned this before. If you would read carefully You would noticed that it’s possible to lose at leas 50s helping friends while earning like 10s
10s from loot -3s (to teleport)-50s (teleporting while playing with friends)- another 3s to teleport back to previous area = -46s not 7s
And I’m quite sure that there Is a lot of other players that could play with their friends most of the time but game dont allow them to do this. Downscalling is just an ilusion telling ppl that it’s worth going low lvl areas while it’s not.
Perhaps you should elaborate on what kind of helping you are doing. If you spend a few minutes helping at an event or just killing mob, you can easily make at least 3s.
I can see it as a problem only if you WP in do one thing and then WP somewhere else. I don’t really think that is helping much and I don’t think the game was designed for that kind of play.
what are you guys smoking? with all my exotic gear, fully runes / sigils I go to low level areas and I 1-2 shot everything. Everything dies to fast and I barely get scratched.
Lol, unless you are being /sarcastic — another elitist, thinking they are being cool and people “admire them” for their virtual gear. NOT!
No need for this option. If the pet is getting in the way, switch to a small pet like a raven then put it in non-aggressive mode.
A Ranger is a Pet class, I think the only one that has a permanent non-timed summon in the game. Switch to another class if you don’t like pets.
BTW running with your back to the mob is the worse thing you can do.
Unless you’re an Engineer with a bomb kit. In which case it’s freakin’ hysterical.
Lol, I have a noob Asuran Engineer as an alt, have to try that.
To OP, I dunno which class you are, if you are squishy and not very fast on the controls, switch to a ranged and/or heavy armor char. You WILL be amazed at the difference in how each profession feels and plays, and also how your equipment selection makes a difference.
eg: if you are a glass cannon build but are terrible with evading and strafing, you should put more into Vit, toughness and Healing.
+1
As far as I know ANet is convincing ppl that it’s good idea to play with lower lvl friends while it’s not. If I want to help my guild mates I usually have to pay like at least 3silver to teleport. While helping anyone it’s normal that ppl are using teleports a lot so it’s even possible to lose around 50s in one or half hour. And what are benefits? Maybe 10s from loot. This have to change since it’s not harming hardcore players at all since they are most of the time farming specific areas, and only harm team playing and casual players.
So you pay 3 silver to teleport to your friend and make 10 silver in loot. That is 7 Silver profit, while having fun. I FAIL to see what you are complaining about.
+1 any method to form a dungeon party with similar skilled players (other than spamming map chat) would be a much needed addition.
I don’t see a problem.
If you are playing the game halfway decently and not hopping all over the place , you make way more than enough to cover the waypoint cost. This is even though the bot farmers have driven most drops to vendor cost.
This is even though I’m constantly upgrading my equipment and was stupid enough to waste a bunch of coin on crafting in the beginning. (Crafting is not profitable until you get to very high levels)
Also i don’t think twice about waypointing to an event, so it isn’t as if I’m being stingy about hopping around.
OP must have a poor build or is a weak player because I feel much stronger in a down leveled area.
I will stress that I’m not a hardcore player, but I have spent much time working on my gear and build to optimize it.
BTW running with your back to the mob is the worse thing you can do. Circle strafe or side strafe, then you can still use skills while on the run.
No inspection please. It promotes elitism and clones.
Dueling, no – just go to sPvP if you want to test your skill.
1. You will be able to have the option to share or not to share..Believe me if someone want to be your clone he will be at no time..and
2.About dueling,i dont ge it really..why dont we have the option to duel with our friends or our guildmates or even a stranger… u know that kind of options are improving the social system around u.
Cloning with effort I don’t mind. However when someone can simply stop next to you and copy your outfit which you spent hours searching the net to design, that is wrong.
Also, much of my gear is Transmuted, so the specs are not = to the skin.
So no inspection please of any kind.
—-
As for dueling I don’t really care as much about this but it should be kept out of certain areas. For example central Lions Arch and Ministers Waypoint in Divinity’s reach. Can you imagine how awful the environment would be if multiple duels were going on with AOE effects?
The best place for duels would probably be in the sPvP training area (problem there is you can’t keep your original gear and level) or the unopened arena areas.
No inspection please. It promotes elitism and clones.
Dueling, no – just go to sPvP if you want to test your skill.

it would hardly be sensible for Arenanet to introduce tools that would essentially turn events into sequential farming runs for players too impatient to play the content in a more leisurely way:
I forgot to address this comment. EXCESSIVE farming runs are a different problem and should be addressed by a different system.
For casual players, a farming run may be the only way they can get enough coin to craft or upgrade equipment. Certainly leveling is heavily dependent on completing DEs. Try leveling by exploring and grinding, not only is it VERY boring, but it is slow.
As you said it doesn’t work out in practice. In the beginning, when most players were concentrated in one zone, it seemed to feel right, lots of events lots of players. Now many zones are deserted and events far and few between. Sometime you come across an event and cant even do it because there aren’t enough players and map chat is dying.
Reason – bots that are farming to Gold sell are on hacked accounts. I’m pretty sure that their profits then get sent to another hacked account to sell to a Gold buyer. By the time it is tracked down, the Gold seller has his money and the hacked account is banned but way too late.
As already pointed out hacked accounts are a different issue from casual botting:
In either case, while I agree hacked account botting is worse, there does not appear to be much being done to stop either. At least not on a frequent basis.
It just takes much away from the game experience to go into an area and see anywhere from one to a group of so many bots it is impossible to count and impractical to report all of them.
Since dungeons require a group, a matching system similar to the sPvP one is required.
My daughter who has limited playtime got her character to lvl 30 with the goal to try AC — only to find she couldn’t get a group for AC even though she asked in map chat several times. Not a single response.

Do you get a complete extra tab with the entire space of the original or do you just get another row like @Hardest said
+100 to this. In some zones I can wander around for an hour and not come across a dynamic event.
People used to map announce an event, but this seemed to have got less frequent. Usually they are announced only if the boss is too hard. Requests for what events are up is a crapshoot. Sometimes people are helpful, sometimes no response.
Banning bots in waves more than 1 day apart is pointless. One month is way too long.
Reason – bots that are farming to Gold sell are on hacked accounts. I’m pretty sure that their profits then get sent to another hacked account to sell to a Gold buyer. By the time it is tracked down, the Gold seller has his money and the hacked account is banned but way too late.
Same with bots that are paid power leveling chars. Yes the chump that paid for the powerlevel gets his account banned but the person that sold the powerlevel is long gone with the money and is spamming chat for a new chump with more money than sense.
Totally agree. There are other MMOs that have one continuous map (Perfect World for one – yes I know PW is a horrible MMO, but is shows it is technically possible).
While this is probably not possible in GW2 since it wasn’t designed in from the ground up, the next best would be to allow zoning to the next zone (with a popup so you don’t switch zones accidentally).
I wasn’t farming the area or doing the event more than a couple of times so if an anti-botting measure kicked in, it was because of other players, it should be tuned/fixed for genuine at level players.
The problem with the Heart quest is balance. Tuning to make the game cooperative instead of anti-cooperative.
The game has other more pressing bugs to be fixed. For one, fix the botting problem and bugged quests.
But I would like to point this issue out to Devs to put it on their list to do.
Having seen some of the responses, I wanted to clarify and offer positive suggestions on how to fix.
1) The nerfing does not seem to be consistent. Perhaps it was the area I was in when I noticed it. Some events in the Sparkfly Fen zone which were occurring on a fairly regular basis, possibly because there were a lot of players (or bots). The Undead were swarming towards the camp, I rush and put out an AOE, I know I do damage because I can see the damage numbers pop up all over the place. 1-2 seconds later the entire hoard is dead because so many other players are hitting them. (I’m at or below the level range, most of the others have down arrows). I run out and notice that there are few or no sparkling corpses with drops. On the other hand if I switch to a single target attack and pick on a mob that has near full health, I notice that I almost always get a decent drop from it.
I don’t have a problem with higher levels or extremely large numbers of players doing an event. In fact that is a mechanic that SHOULD stay in the game, but Anet advertises that the difficulty scales with the number of players. *This difficulty does not seem to be properly tuned because it gets way too easy if there are a lot of players doing it. *
The sweet spot seems to be 4-10 players when you get to 30-40+ the events are too easy, or rather the wave of mobs go down too fast. The only exception is if there is a Champion boss. Those at least seem to be tough whether there are 5 or 100 attacking.
2) The issue occurs only on a few Heart events I have come across, but I noticed in the Quaggan slave issue it did make me feel like I was being kill stolen and it basically made me change my tactics to rushing to destroy the net to free the slave (one click) instead of cooperatively trying to kill off the Slavers.
This particular Heart quest was annoying and stupid because it was one of the “collecting” type quests. While some players may enjoy it, I think it becomes somewhat tedious to have to walk slowly carrying a bomb to a far off boulder (while mob aggro on you), only to find that someone else has just blown it up. Yes you can also complete it by killing certain mob but the bar moves much more slowly than by freeing slaves and collecting treasure by blowing up boulders.
SOLUTION- I think this quest needs just needs re-balancing, so that you can complete the quest just as fast by all methods. That would make it more cooperative because players would be just as inclined to kill off the mob aggroing the “bomb” carrier as rushing to blow up the boulder.
Normally I would simply skip an annoying Heart quest but since at this level 55-65 the quest unlocks potentially interesting Karma goods, I tend to grit my teeth and work through them.
I don’t know enough about the hidden drop mechanics for #1, it could be that because the zone seemed to be full of bots, some kind of drop nerfing was in place. But it definitely was happening there.
#2
Not a problem if you are active in game.
Much of the time I run through an area to get through it alive and pick up a train — not on purpose. If some one is standing around AFK, I won’t say they deserve it, but they should have logged, or gone to a safer area. I always do so I don’t know why others shouldn’t.
What I would love to do is train mobs to bots, but usually they are too smart and strong to be killed.
Kill stealing DOES exist in GW2 despite what they say. It happens one of two ways:
1) OP high level comes in and “helps” kill the mob you are killing. You get XP but your drop is NERFED because you did very little damage compared the other player.
This is compounded when you are in an event where most of the chars are smart bots which can go around like real players killing everything faster than you can.
2) Free Slaves (and similar) Heart quests. When you free a slave, it is gone until it respawns. So if two or more players go to free the slave only the one who gets there first gets credit. (this is mainly for the ones where it is one click destroy net) — it isn’t a problem for events but for Heart quests it is a pain. This also occurs I think for the blow up boulders. (I came across this problem in the Sparkfly Fen zone, protect the Quaggan heart quest)
Anet please put on you list to fix.
