Is there a way to make leveling entertaining?

I have not much to add that hasn’t allready been told here, but hey, one more opinion cant hurt

I have the opposite off you dear OP. I’m allways way to high level for the area that i’m doing. And i don’t do this on purpose. Nope, i just like to complete an area before i move on to the next one. I have a human hunter and a norn guardian. They both stick to there “native” area’s so i don’t visit other races start area’s. I’m having trouble ignoring a gathering spot so i’m a heavy gatherer (nice exp for that) and since most off the spots have a mob close by, i have to kill a few now and then.
That keeps my dailies running nicely. When i see an event and i’m close by, i jump in to help out a bit. Again, nice exp rewards and some good loot also.
Once in a while i track back to the main city to indulge a bit in crafting. I’ve been choosing crafting professions i can use on my char. So armor and weaponsmith for my Guardian. Again, nice exp rewards from the discovery section.
Adding all this makes me level so quickly i can’t complete an area before i overlevel it.
So when i get into a new area, i just start walking about, looking for new events that i haven’t done yet, gathering some mats and killing some mobs. And that is what keeps me going and going. Currently in Snowden Drifts, wich is a 15-25 area, i havent seen everything yet in that area and allready lvl 37.

New Player - server and profession suggestions?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

As i’m on EU, i can not advise on servers, but professioins, i can share my thoughts on that

I would suggest that you think a bit about what you want to play. We have melee, ranged, magic and rogue like. So is your goal to beat everything on the head with a mace/club/warhammer, go for warrior or guardian.
If you like more distance between you and your enemy, you have a choice between fysical damage and magical damage.
Fysical would be Ranger or Engineer.
Magical would be Elementalist, Mesmer and Necromancer.
And you have Thief as a rogue style.

If this is you very first character in the Guild Wars universe, i would not recommend Elementalist and Engineer, because the seem to be the hardest ones out there to learn.
Be ready to learn a lot off new things when playing this game. It has nothing to do with WoWplaystyle or any copy off that game. Mobility is key in fighting and your skills are more important then what you have as gear.
I know, gear is also important, but if you have the best gear you can aquire at this moment, and you have no idea what your character can and must do to survive and fight, you will die A LOT!
So learn, try out the different classes and races and THEN decide what you like the best to play as main.

As for PVP later on, i’m sure that all professions can do there part in PVP, so don’t worry about that.

Starting out and making money

Making money in GW2?
Hmm, let me see.
Loot everything, gather as much as you can, sell all you can (with a profit) on the Trading Compagny, all the rest to a trader.
And most important, don’t spend money on the TC unless you really need it. I’m lvl 34 now on my guardian and have NEVER spend money on the TC so far.

Ooh, and use the waypoints only when you really really need them, like when you die and there is absolutely nobody in the area to revive you or when you want to escape a very dangerous area.

These are the things i’ve been doing so far and i made a nice 4 gold on that 34 lvl char.

Hey there Chinchilla!

I understand that you have a hard time learning this game. It is not your usual MMORPG where they keep your hand till you reach the end content. You need to learn how to play, and what the mechanics are.
For that, Ele is indeed a very hard choice, so as suggested by other people, try a guardian, ranger or maybe even warrior.
If you really want to stick with Ele, join a good supportive guild that can help you out in the first 10-20 levels.
As suggested by Vlawde, check this thread out
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/first

It’s a very very long thread, but in there is a great group off people that have formed a guild know as The Legion of Honor XIII.
You can simply ask for some advice in the thread or even join up. If you’re on a server with none of our members on, and you have nothing binding you to your current server, you can jump to a more populated one and get real help from our people there. And if you not feel like changing server, there is allways the guildchat where you can ask any question you have. We allways try to give good advice and there are no stupid questions.

So check it out and maybe we see you soon ingame with us.

Not much to add here, just another voice to tell you “try it out before ignoring it”
Why? Well, i personaly almost never play a close fighting char (more into raining destruction from afar ) but i did try guardian and love it sooo much that at this point, its my highest leveled char i have.
So try it out, see if you get the hang off it and if not, there is not much time wasted.

Laziest (non-crafting) way to level up?

in Players Helping Players

Noppy.1348

I’m not sure if this helps (i really think it will not help the OP but maybe somebody that has yet started on the adventure GW2 is).
What i’m doing so far is only visit the maps that are for my race. So i have this human ranger and he only visits the maps that “belong” with the human race. What i mean is this: lots off people run trough an area for say lvl 15-25 and when they are at the end off that map, they still need to level a bit to go to the next level map (25-35). So they run to any other lvl 15-25 map and rush trough that also. That way, you run trough content in a fast pace.
And when you start a new char with a different race, you have no new territory to explore and appreciate.
So i keep my chars to the right area’s and then i have new content when i start a new one.

Just my 2 copper on the subject! And not being offensive on the OP

Are you sure you want to know all???

Ok, here we go!
I simple LOVE this game!!
I know, there are MMO mechanics in play, things are not that revolutionary as Anet let us believe, but the game feels very very fresh and alive to me.
I love to explore the maps and getting rewards for just doing that. You get experience for almost everything you can do in this game.
Even crafting is not a time/money sink, you level your character by crafting too.

The main thing Anet is proud off are the Dynamic Events (DE’s on the forum mostly). And yep, they are lovely to do, give you agian a great reward towards your efforts and its just so great to see people coming from all different directions to join in the battle to kill that big bad boss
It’s also true that if you hang around in an area for some time, you’ll see the same events start over again. But i see no harm in that. Specially if the rewards are good enough. And it pays off to stay a bit longer in a certain area because that is the way i found new DE’s that i hadn’t seen before.

What makes this game also great are the graphics. Yep, Anet has a specifick art style and you love it or not, but you have to be honest, this are about the best graphics i’ve seen in a MMO so far. They raised the bar and its up to the competition to catch up with them. And with your new Pc (envy those 660 ti in SLI, i have a single 660 ti and it runs great but you’re gonna have SOOO much power ) you should be able to run in on max grahp settings so get ready for some awesome sights!

What else to tell you? I haven’t tried PVP or WvW yet, so can’t really have an opinion on that. Dungeons are also a part that i yet have to enter but i hear from my guildies that it can be lots off fun when you set your mind to it So get into a great group off players and you’ll should be set for some fun runs!

For the rest you should try out a few things. I’m not gonna recommend any race or profession as that is personal taste in my opinion. Try out what you like, level it to 10-20 to get a good feeling off the profession and decide then if you like it or not.

So there is some basic info about the game and what i love about it. Hope it helps you a bit and have fun when you do enter Tyria

Hey people!!

Another group off fresh players that are willing to join us!! Great work all. And offcourse welcome to the new players!

@Nots: i understand what you’re saying, the graphics are great but there are other games with better offcourse. But they are not MMO games. I personaly prefer Skyrim (with a few additional mods, some 35 ones ) but in MMO world, i think GW2 is at a lonely top at the moment. And that makes it harder to enjoy any other MMO for me. Hmmm, maybe this is all a plan from Anet to keep us in Tyria….. forever!!!

@Vlawde: great work on the website there. Will sign up asap! So be prepared to see me post a few lenghty things there

Greetings Legionairs!
From the dusty places, deep, deep in the caves i reach out to you all! And i’m amazed by the lengthy postings since i last checked.
Really people, hold back a bit, would you?? I have missed 1 DAY, i mean, really, it was just 1 little day, that i couldn’t find time to check the forums and now i had to go trough 4 whole pages!!! Insane i tell you! :p

But enough rambling, let me say Welcome to all the new recruits for the mighty Legion. Make us proud and bask in the glory off our leader and… cough God Glitch
:D
Happy to have you all in the group and when in need for some help our advice, don’t be afraid to ask.

@Kit, i’m very very happy that you love the massive shoe collection but last time i checked, the name was Noppy, not Noopy
Just a little pointer as it hurts my feelings a bit snif snif

@everybody doing dungeons, good to see that more people are getting involved. We all learn from experiences and the more people try, the better we as a group will be at those dungeons. So keep it up, make sure you’re having fun and don’t let Glitch get to you

I also wanted to tell you people a bit off what i’ve experienced since i played GW2.
I’m a MMORPG player for a few years now (well, more like 7 by now but hey, who’s counting ) and did play a very long time World of Warcraft (before it became Kung Fu Panda meets Pokemon).
I also tried a few F2P ones, with different experiences. But i have still a few ones on my hard disk, waiting ‘till i have some time to play them. There is Star Trek Online (yep, i’m a Trekkie, love the series, love the movies and even the last one, wich is kind off a restart for the franchise) and Lord Of The Rings Online, with a great story and a world that i love to explore (big fan off the books and movies).
But…. after playing GW2, i have a problem with the other ones. And that is graphics!
I just LOVE the graphics in GW2 and compare them all the time when playing something else. And for STO, there is not that much off a problem, they have decent graphics, specially the space ships are great. But LOTRO, that feels SOOOO wrong! Its more like WoW with the cartoony style. And i find it not good anymore.
So i’m gonna have to decide if i’m willing to look at the lesser graphics or just delete the whole thing and keep playing GW2.
I just wanted to tell some people about this and was wondering how you experience the graphics off GW2 and what effect they have on youre appreciation towards other games.
Just let you idea’s flow and type them down here

And now its enough off me, off to make diner and maybe i’ll have a chance to hop ingame tonight!

Hehe, yes Aka, i’m doing fine.
Work is getting in the way off gaming but thats life!

And yep, there is an Asuran Army assembled and they are a growing force! So watch out for them.
As a counter reaction, people that felt a bit…. how shall i put this?…… well, they felt a bit cornered with the growing number of Asuran and therefor created the AA Tossing Squads. It was there hope to eliminate the AA but alas, the numbers off AA troops is still growing so…. Asuran rule the world!!

Hey you lovely people!

Had no change getting on the forums yesterday, so had to do some reading before i got to the end.
At first, a warm welcome to all the new members! Settle in and have fun in game and on the forum.
Secondly, thanks for the tips about posting pic’s, gonna take a few off my little girl with the big ears (yep, another addition to the great and ever growing Asuran Army!) so you all can meet here. I must warm you though, beneath that lovely face is a cold, angry necro lurking, so be carefull or she brings you a visit at night (and it wont be fun after that :p )
@Kaii, i wish to thank you for linking that music that you listen to. I started the playlist and didn’t stopped listening till i had to go to bed. Bookmark in place and gonna see if there is more off that lovely music out there. So if you have any suggestions, go ahead, i’ll be watching out for them

Also good to see some opinions about different classes and a bit off discussion about what works well with each class. As long as we all see it as “personal opinion” and not mandatory to build your class as posted, its a great thing to see happening.

That’s all i got for now people, and i see you all ingame soon!

Hey all you wonderfull people!
Happy times here and i’m willing to share
Nothing special but after all those Asuran pics, i finally decided that it is time to create my own little chap
Still working out the details, but so far i’ve got the following:
- it will be an Asura :p
- it will be a necromancer (haven’t played one yet, so lets look at new territory to explore)
- it will be a Asura with a BAD attitude!!

Not sure if i go for male or female, but i tend to play more female chars then male, somehow i’m not that into male chars (i like my feminine side :p )
And a name, that is usual also a problem but thanks to the great website that FGreen suggested, a name should be easy picking
So left is build and playing the little big ear “creature” (is Yoda also an Asura?? think there is a great discussion in that )
Any suggestions are welcome and will be considered and possibly dismissed

Greets all

@Glitch: very excited about the ranks, so will need to check soon to see my new title
And once more a bit thanks to Helequin for all the work with those ranks, it seems simple but you need to set your mind to it to get the right result.

@Kaii, kit and i asume Nots, nice pics therer. I’m not sure wich one is the most scare though. The giant Asura (there no certainties these days) or the fact that that owl is about the same size as you Kit :p

@everybody; having such a great time with all off you! So lets keep this thing going strong

Also, a little story i wanted to tell you all.
I was leaving Hoelbrak, the Great Norn Capital (getting a bit carried away here ) when i met a fellow Norn, struggling to get pass a few Sons of Svanir and i decided to help the poor fellow a bit.
After the battle i saw that he was only lvl 5 and the area was more for people up to lvl 8 or higher. So i pointed out to him that he was in dangerous territory and althoug we Norn like a good challenge, i will not stand by and see a son of Asgeir Dragonrender die in vain. Thus we started to talk a bit and find that i was like an elder to him. (being a whooping lvl 16 at the moment and he only lvl 5) So start explaining him the basics about the game, and trying to help out in the current quest he was. It became clear that it was a “story quest” and that i did not came from the same background, so i had no insight in that quest. After a few more helpfull thoughts, we parted.
Now, he was admiring my lovely chopping tool (Great Sword offcourse, what else do you use when you are a Great Norn :p ) and was asking where i had it from. As it was a random drop from a slain attacker, i could not help out that much.
Now fortune would not be so quirky as it was, just after we parted ways, i attacked a misguided follower off the dragon and he dropped….. a Great Sword!!
So i looked up my friend and arranged a meeting near Hoelbrak’s main gate. There we tried to hand over the weapon, but in the end we needed the assistance off a homing pigeon (must be a strong race, as they carry almost everything, from a simple letter to complete armor sets) to deliver the new sword to my new friend.
It became clear that he needed some more guidance and i was happy to lend a hand in that matter. So we choose a nice forest and start talking about things a Norn should do when he’s that young.
In the end i learned that my new friend was an eager young boy, willing to listen to those who know more and using the new teachings to stand strong in life.
So i invited him to join us and after some more chatting, we parted ways and i felt very great and honorable!

So another nice story off how we can help others to enjoy GW2 a bit more and make a great community. (and i could do some RP here as well )
Can’t wait till we get that website up and running and then i will definitly visit the Cantina for some ale and a few good stories!

@ all the new posters and members off our great guild: welcome! I hope everybody who wanted an invite has recieved it by now. So set up a tent in the backyard and get settled

@ Helequin: great work on the ranksystem, i for one support it 100%.
There will be some searching in who fits in what category, but it will be sorted. I’m happy to see that there are other people out there that feel like this guild needs some roman inspired ranks

@everybody else: nice posting all, i see a lot off people are having fun (yes Kaii, i’m looking at you and your awesome pics :p ) I have personaly not that much time at the moment to game, but i try to get in every day to do at least my dailies, so you all will see me pop up now and then!

@akamon: nice info about traits for guardians, i’m leveling one myself at the moment and will take your info into account when i try again. Specially the mouse turning, although that will take some learning to get used to. So better try in the start area before a little bunny with a big knive slices me in to small cubes

Hey peopel!
I couldn’t get on yesterday and had no time to read the forums, so now a bit off a headache from trying to catch up with all off you

First off, a warm welcome to all new members off the legion. Your tents are placed in the camping area and do make yourself at home.

@messup, i would also suggest Gunnars Hold, nice people there, good atmosphere and even without the Dynamic Duo, we do get stuff done here

@Glitch, i have been reading and thinking about the website. This gonna be long, so get yourself settled
A News section: sounds great, so yep, let’s have that.
A Guild section: well, thats kind off manditory i guess
A General section: i would suggest a “differen” name: The world of Tyria. Here you can post all your stuff that is about the game and that is not guild related.
A Events section: sounds great, BUT we do need somebody that can manage that section. There is a lot to do before you can get an organized event, so somebody with some organizing skills and a fair amount off spare time will be needed in my opion.
A question section: you mentioned 2 question sections, or i did misunderstood that. But i would suggest just 1 Question section. Keep things nice and clean together.
A Off topic section: YES!! i want to ramble about all the other stuff that i play and i want you all to read it

Further more, i wouls suggest the following sections.
A section called The Legions Cafeteria; here we can tell our great adventures that happend in the game. Like where you stumbled upon a great reward, or the struggle to compleet a certain dungeon. Or how you prefer to jump BESIDE the cliff, instead off ON the cliff (yes, i’m looking at all those JP fanatics :p )
And a Request Section: here we could make a few sections, like for crafting, dungeon runs, JP runs, a “i need help with…”,… So basicly a place to go when you need a hand in the game.

About the thing about what members or on what server. I would suggest that everybody do that thereself. Make that section open for everybody so that we can make a list by server in that section.
Suggested layout: Server pop – server name – member name
If you changes server, you can adjust it yourself and if a member is on a server that is not yet in the list, he/she can create that server name and add there name to it.

And a last thing i’ve been thinking about. Guild ranks! We have them and they are needed, but i would suggest to make them a bit more “special”
As we are called The Legion of Honor XIII, i would suggest to give the ranking names something about the roman army.
I have been searching a bit about them and i came up with these rangs
Imperator: leader off the legion
Legate: top circle, the high officers that help rule the guild and stuff (the founders i would suggest)
Tribune:
Centurion: maybe server specific people that are comitted to be a face off the legion on theyre server
Legionair: basic members, so the bulk off the guild
As you see, i left Tribune open, it is one off the ranks in the roman army so i wanted to add them too, but not sure about the role they can play in the guild layout.
So see what you can do with it, and offcourse, allways open for discussion about everything.

And now i’m off to do some work here! See you later today in Tyria!!

@everybody knew here: a warm welcome from me also! Good to see so many people are interested in joining our group here. As i see, all invites are allready send, so will not bother you with another one

@Glitch: for me its very simple. I have only 1 guild at this point that i want to represent and that is The Legion. So i have no hard choices to make here :p
But i understand that other people have more friends in this game and they need to be free to choose when to represent what guild.
For the “inner circle”, the officers and stuff, i would say, try to represent the guild as much as possible, since we/they are the face off the guild.
I would love to help out in the Support Team, and will do my best to be as much as possible in the game. But i have that hectic workshedule to follow, and then some kids and a lovely wife to keep happy So it could be that i’m not ingame every day or only for short bursts off time. But will do my best if you want me for the team

Also wanna say that the new pc is running SUPER! Did a bit off Skyrim yesterday, and after the long install off 35 mods (yep, i love mods and they are mostly graphical enhancements for Skyrim ) i started the game. The game decided to go to Ultra High settings and it runs like a dream! So me very happy now

And now i’m off for some lunch, see you all ingame i hope this afternoon!!

Hey Eltacoslayer,

first off, welcome to Tyria!!
For leveling, there is just one simple answer: go out and explore! You get exp when you discover the world. You get exp from slaying mobs (you know, the things that wanna kill you ) you get exp from gathering, you get exp from discovering POI (Points of Interest , the little squares on the map), from Vista’s, from doing events, from map completion, from… basicly from everything you do in the game.

Money will come from the same sources, as will armor. Do pick up everything that is dropped. Even if its junk, you can sell it to a merchant for some hard cash. All gather stuff can be directly deposit in your bank from anywhere in the world. Just click the cogwheel on the right top off you inventory display and select deposit.

For the first part off the game i would not recommend using the Trading Post if this is your first char and you are still low on cash. Most needed armor and weapons will drop from slain mobs and you can easily survive on that. Later, when you want specific stuff, browse the TP and you could strike a good deal sometimes.

A guild is not mandatory, but it gives you a bonus (help from other members, some good chatting while playing the game and a good resource for information about almost everything in this game). So check out some guilds or post a thread in the guild section off the forum. You can join more then 1 guild, but you can only represent 1 guild at the time. So you can decide who you will represent whenever you want and switch during game to any other in your list.

Crafting is basicly collecting the right materials, go to the right workstation (you need to “learn” a crafting profession) and check what you can make. Also check out the disovery tab off the crafting panel. It lets you combine different mats so you can learn a new thing to craft. The most exp from crafting comes from the discovery off new items. You can learn all the crafting professions, but you can have only 2 active ones at the time. If you switch to another crafting prof you will keep all the exp from the “unlearned” one and once you switch back, you can continue without any lose.

Hope that this gives you some basic information so you can start playing and having fun. For more detailed info, check out the wiki, there’s tons and tons off info there!

Okay, halfway through this MASSIVE posting since my last visit (really people, i get away for only a FEW DAYS!! and then this, its unbelievable!!) and i really need to express some feelings here

I really really LOVE the great vibes that come from this wonderfull group off people!! I think that what Glitch has started here is a “once in a lifetime” thing. We have gathered a great number off people that like to play this game as it should be played. We wanne help each other (and even people that haven’t joined us…. yet) and go out off our way to do that.
Now there is talk about going into dungeons and once again, the idea is to help people that haven’t yet ventured into those parts off the game.
I feel blessed to be part off this great group and can’t wait to join you all once more in the game. (Let’s hope they deliver my new pc very soon)

@ all the new people: Welcome!! you have found us and that means you’re looking for the same kind off people as we all did at one point in time. We do like to chat a fair bit, and we do create some “wall off text” postings but we also are here to help you all and having a great time playing this game.

@bri: thanks for th mumble info, i never heard about it, but it sounds great and indeed, voice chat is a great tool for difficult things like dungeons but also for having fun And Glitch, swearing is a human thing, so i guess i can handle it

@Deb: as sad before, no thing as a late entry here everybody with the right mindset is welcome, no matter what time they stumble trough the door So feel welcome here and when needed help, there should be somebody here that has the needed info or can lend you a hand in the gameworld (and if Anet would be so kind to get us Guesting, then we could help even more in Tyria).

So, back to reading again, let’s hope i can catch up with you lot, since you all seem to post an awful lot off stuff

The key to lvling your crafting skills is the Discovery tab.
Just try to mix different ingredients and see what you can come up. You get much more experience for that then by crafting stuff that, indeed, gives you not much experience and cost you a fair amount off mats.
So go discovery and lvl quick!

Hey people!
Quick question: when i create a new avatar, does it has acces to the guild instantly? I think it is the case because you join the guild with your account, not your avatar. So all joined guilds should be there when you make a new char. But i’m wanne be sure because i’m thinking off starting a new char when my new pc arrives. And i still wanne be a member and proude presenter off The Legion
So let me know if i’m right or completely off the hook

I'm looking for a guild.

Its a great project and you are most welcome to join us. also know that you can join more then 1 guild. You can only represent one guild at the time when you’re ingame though. But check us out and maybe you’ll join us

Happy gaming and traveling!!

Confusion with job choices

Noppy.1348

you gather skill points by doing the skill challenges. Once you reach a certain lvl (i’m not sure but i believe it was lvl 10) you can use those points to unlock certain skills (look in your hero panel)
Traits are “passive” bonusses that you can unlock with trait points (again, look in your hero panel)
the elite skills that you have heard off, they are some kind off “super” skills that you can unlock from lvl 30 but they cost a fair bit off points and they do have a longer cooldown then your other skills.
Hope this helps you a bit and if somebody with more detailed info comes along, he/she sure can correct my mistakes

Help Needed

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

Hmm, another difficult one.
First off, welcome to Tyria!!
As for class, much like electricfate has pointed out, as far as my experience goes, most classes are able to go solo. I did try Elem, and that was hard, but i could survive (although it sometimes was very very scary )
Ranged and melee is for all classes availyble, but will differ from class to class as how much effective they are and also what the skills are is different for each class.
About the challenging class, they all have a certain amount off skill needed to survive. This is not your typical MMO where you stand still and push buttons to achieve victory. You have to move, dodge and time your skills to survive. Specially when a few “bigger” mobs appear or when you get swarmed by mobs (like those little spiders in the mines, soooo many and soooo deadly )

So go out there, try a few classes and see what fits you best! And above all, enjoy the game and take the time to be amazed instead off rushing to 80. This is a game off exploration and amazing, not rushing

Noppy.1348

Welcome to Tyria!!
On too the subject. It all depends on what you wanna play. There are close combat classes like warrior, guardian,.. and ranged like euhm, ranger and elementalist. The ranged ones are less capable to survive heavy close combat, but they rain terror from a distance;
So if you like the close combat, choose one off those classes, if not, you can go for the more distant fighters or the pure casters.
I would suggest that you don’t read too much on the forums but go out there, choose a class that you think you gonna like, play it for like say 10 levels and see if you like the playstyle off that class. If its not for you, simple start a new one and see if that fits you more.
Also different weapons give you different playstyles, so be sure to check that out before you decide on a class.

Anyway, have fun and play a good game

Hehe akamon, it seems The Legion is invading other threads now

@Omerk – a great quote from your instructor! And it really captured the spirit off the game for me. You have to enjoy the ride, and not rush to the finish to get the shiny price!

@ThelronFistofDeath – i had the same experience mate! I’ve been playing WoW since Europe’s Beta and i loved every thing in the game. (it was my first taste off MMO games) But after 5 years, i had to quite due to RL commitments. After a good year i came back to Wow and started a new char. But the game had completely changed!! Nobody was helping anybody out! If you asked for some advice, the best thing you got was a link to a wiki or youtube clip. And when you asked for a dungeon group, they first wanted to know how well you did know the dungeon, what your gear looked like and how fast you could run the dungeon. Now that’s not my kind off game!
So i’m very happy to see that other people do like to play as me, and take the adventure off dungeon exploration instead off the quick fix off dungeon rushing!

Ways To Level?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

Hey everybody!
I see a lot off good advice allready, so not much to add
But i would like to comment on Thord’s post. He is right! I play the same way. I know that i’m not that high in level as some off you are, but i follow my char’s race area’s. This means that i keep in the lvl 15-25 ‘till i have reached lvl 25 (what was very easely since i can’t run pass any gathering point and allwasy help out others in events or when they have problems with a few mobs too much). Then, after i’m lvl 25, i look for the next map for my race that is for the next level group (in Thords example, i would go to Gendarran Fields). That way i keep at least the starter area’s for my alts that will be other races.
And i never had problems meeting the level cap off an area before i did map completion

hey Genlog,
first off, welcome to Tyria.
Now on the subject, i’m warning you, i’m not that “advanced” a player but i can share you my personal experiences.
I have the feeling that you ask the almost impossible. You want basicly a “cloth armor” class but wanne kick kitten in the world. This is a “mobile” figthing game, meaning that you HAVE to learn dodging, moving around and keep in mind that you will be downleveled to meet the area requirements. So if you are say lvl 35 and you enter a lvl 15 area, you will be lowered to lvl 15. this means that you will allways have a real fight on your hands. No overpowering in low lvl area’s.

So i’m not sure that you will find what you’re looking for in this game. Maybe some off the more experienced players will have a suggestion to help you out, but i would suggest to try it out a bit more and see if you can get the hang off it.

I’m happy to see that you guys (and girls) are talking about builds and hope that you have figured it out when i get back into the game so i can “steal” your knowledge for myself

@Glitch, thanks for the kind words there mate, i try to help everybody as much as possible, and since i’m not able to actually play the game, i’m gonna stalk these forums for a while

Noppy.1348

Hey everybody!
@bri and glitch: thanks for the advise about the pc. I do understand your remarks and will adress them all
First off, the pc will come from a webshop that assembles everything and they provide game systems with a prebuild layout (if that sounds correct). You can decide on a lot off items (cpu, gpu, ram,…) but the soundcard is a standard. I can not remove the soundcard from the build and also the card reader is not removable But its still a great setup
Now, the other remarks like the power supply. Do you really think i should raise the powersupply if you know that i will not overclock my pc and that 1 graphics card will be enough for me (and my budget )?
About the case: you guys checked out a website and bri, you’re telling that it only has 1 fan in place. But on the website that i will order my pc from has this as information about the case

CoolerMaster K350 Advanced
Model
Midi Tower
Afmetingen (BxDxH)
20 × 42,5 × 48 cm
Kleur
Zwart met rood, blauw of groene led
Aantal ventilatoren
2
(i translate this for the not dutch speaking people it says: number off fans 2)
Voorzieningen van systeemkast
Windowed sidepanel, Optionele fans boven/zijkant
Ondersteunde moederborden
Micro-ATX, ATX
I/O-connectors
1 x USB 3.0, 1 x USB 2.0, 1 x Microfoon, 1 x Hoofdtelefoon

So maybe i’m wrong, but i’ll check with the website before ordering and if there is indeed only 1 fan included in the base setup, i will ask for an additional one.

So thats basicly it. One thing that came up just today, they made the offer even more attractive. I can choose out these games for free!
Dirt Showdown PC Game
Shogun 2 Total War PC Game
Nexuiz PC Game
Assassin’s Creed III + Razer mouse pad
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 + Steelseries Black ops II mouse pad
Sleeping Dogs

So i’m gonna have to choose real soon before the offer expires and i “miss” on a free game.
Anyway, i’m off to bed now, since it’s getting pretty late here (almost 1 am now) and i really need some sleep

@Orpheus : sounds like you’re having fun with this great game. I consider myself a casual player and due to irl stuff (work, family, hardware issues) i haven’t been able to get to the point off doing dungeons at all. So i’m a TOTAL noob on these things in GW2 (did play a lot off WOW and did a lot off dungeon runs there, but in GW2 they seem to be “a littel bit” harder to beat )
I’m in a great guild called The Legion off Honor XIII (check us out in this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/players/OPERATION-UNION-Bringing-Players-Together/page/9#post720735 ) and we have a lot off casual players that want to enjoy the dungeon/game world and not rush through the content. So maybe you wanne team up with some off us and do some runs.
Just see what you think and i applaud your vision on the game!!

Not enjoying GW2

Noppy.1348

hey there!
i understand that you are not having fun at this moment in GW2. As stated before, a lot off the content is soloble, so people are not that actively seeking help when they can manage on there own.
Also stated before, Elem is not the most ‘accesible’ profession in GW2. There is a lot to learn and you can’t survive a lot off beating. So i would suggest to try another prof/clas, and maybe even another race.
Also, you do can switch servers and join a more active guild. i myself am a member off The Legion off Honor XIII and we have players in all levels. So check this thread out and maybe you will join us sometime soon.

Hey people!
First off, Gratz Glitch on your birthday! Hope you had a wonderfull day and enjoyed it

Second, i need some advice for my new desktop. I have figured it out for the most part but i do need some info about graphics cards. At this moment i’m looking at a GTX 660 or GTX 660 Ti (have no idea what the difference is between the 2, but the price difference is about 100 euro).
If you can advise on one off the 2 or on a completely different one, go ahead. I’m looking for a card that is able to play GW2 offcourse, but also good for Skyrim, Borderlands 2 and Diablo 3 (3 games that i still need to play to the end ) But i’m also on a small budget so don’t go overboard and advise a card that cost me an arm and a leg

Hope to hear soon off you all!

I can’t tell more then the other posters did, you just have to try what you think will be a race you like and a profession (or class) that looks interesting to you.
What i do wanna tell you is, no matter what you choose, play at an relaxed pace. I mean, don’t rush to the level cap, but enjoy the journey to 80.

@Xander the laptop went to the shop for a full cleaning and replacing the paste in march this year, so fairly new, also i cleaned up the vents just a week ago. So that should be not an issue. Problem is that the guy in the shop told me that the series laptop that i own are having all the same problem, and that problem is heat.
I have an HP Pavilion dv7 and the main problem with these boys is that the graphics card is very strong for a laptop and that create a lot off heat.

@bri Ouch, no fun thing when you burn out your laptop. Have not had that…. yet.
the way things are going, it would be happening if i keep playing for a long time. So like i told before, it will be short visits to Tyria ’till my new rig is here.
thanks for the helping hand, at this moment i have a friend off mine looking at parts and collecting info for me to decide what way i can go. So a bit off waiting for now and just keeping everybody bored on the forums by my rambling
