Hey Shiro!
Welcome to the group
A good server on NA side would indeed be Tarnished Coast. The server is highly populated and it can sometimes be hard to get a spot, but if you select another NA server, you still can guest on TC.
Also, there is this thread (see link below) that tries to help new people to find like minded people to group up and you can even join up with the guild that came from the project.
So check it out maybe and have fun playing the game!

You are boosted to lvl 80 in both SPVP and WvW, but in WvW you keep your gear from PVE. So if you start a new char, and jump from lvl 1 into SPVP, you are boosted to lvl 80 and have acces to all your traits, skills and so on.
If you do the same in WvW, you are boosted to lvl 80 but keep your lvl 1 gear and lvl 1 skills and traits. This will mean that you are very weak compared to a real lvl 80 char that jumps into WvW.

Hey Kari!
Like most off us at the beginning, i struggled with my loot management. But most off the good advice is allready told here
1) Buy bigger bags. I see that you carry 4 slot bags, and that is just a waste, they fill way to fast and you can very cheap get some bigger bags from the Trading Post.

2)Use Grassrab’s suggestion to send all your gathered crafting materials to your deposit bank. This is the space that everybody has and where you can store your crafting materials, both basic and first refinement up to 250 pieces. So you can store 250 copper from mining, but also 250 copper bars from refining them through a crafting station. That way you can gather a huge amount off resources. If you at a certain time can not deposit any raw materials, that means that the stock is full. You can then sell any excess you have on the TP (good money for low tier mats)

3) Some items you pick up have in their description a mention that says :Salvage Item. These are items that you “salvage” by using a salvage kit (basic is good enough) and by doing that you gain some crafting materials that you then can deposit again.

4)Every time you see a merchant, go to him, choose the sell button and then press Sell Junk. Those items will do nothing, can not be salvaged and take up only space in your bags. So sell them, gain some copper (or even more) and gain free space

5)For the rest, most items are not for your profession. If you plan to level another char and you find a really good piece off gear or weapon, keep it and store it in your bank. If you’re not interested in leveling say a cloth armor char, then sell the pieces you find on the TP or at a merchant.

In this way, you keep your bags open, gain some nice coin and have a much better time traveling Tyria!

Confused about gems

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

The way i see this, if you want to buy some stuff right away, you have the option to just get some gems for real cash and go on a spending spree.
If you can’t afford this, you just hang in there and get your stuff through hard work in the game.

And Dolan, you don’t HAVE to spend money on gems, or even gems at all (although the lack off storage will drive people to buying at least that).
You DO HAVE to spend money to keep playing WoW. No money, no game! Simple!
So i would not say GW2 = WoW

Karma is indeed important for those lvl 80 exotics and legendaries but you can gather enough by doing your dailies
Also, save the bottles till you get an karma boost so you can gain more from those bottles

As for gear while leveling, my guardian lvl 65 has never bought any gear. The only thing i got from the Trading Post are some bags, so i could collect more when i’m out exploring Tyria
And those bags are paid with gold/silver, not Karma

I would like to take the opportunity to tell you all that this is one off the best guilds i have ever been in. And that is because the basic idea is not to be an elite group off players that rule the game, but a group off fun loving people that like to chat ingame, share experiences with each other and help out when needed.
I think off us as one big global family that just love to play a game, but understanding that is just a game and not a way off living.
So if you like this kind off approach and want to join our crazy bunch, then leave your information here, or if you want to join the guild Honor of Legion, check out the website (see link above) and leave your info there

Hey Olney, welcome to Tyria

As most people allready told you, take your time to enjoy the game/world.
There is a ton off stuff to do in Tyria, and if you go out and enjoy yourself, the levels will come automatically.
Don’t go reading to much on how to play yout chosen profession, just learn it as you progress trough the game. I found myself that this is the best way to know what your char can do and how you must/will play.
GW2 is not a gear grind, it largely depends on how you play your profession that will make you “stronger” and more able to survive the mobs.

As for finding a good profession, go with what you think you would like. Some peopel have mentioned Warrior as a good starting prof, and i agree. Also Ranger is not that hard to learn. If you go for thief, mesmer, ele; those are the profs that are a bit harder to learn and you still need to learn how Tyria works. So a easier way is to take one off the easier to learn profs and later, when you know how hte world works, try the harder profs. But in the end, its up to you to find the profession that you like and want to level to 80 and beyond.

And a good group off friends also helps in enjoying the game. I’m not recruiting you for our guild, but when you want some compagny, just check out the link in my signature and maybe you want to join in our project

Anyway, enough rambling, i wish you a good time in Tyria and see you ingame maybe sometime!

A few questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

Hey malakhi!
I’m gonna try to help you with the questions

1) the chests can only be unlocked with the key, i had the luck to find one as a loot drop once, but the last 2 months i haven’t found any. So if Anet has taken them out off the loot drops, then the only way to open them is with a key from the Gemstore.
You can sell them locked, no problem there, but i’m not sure how the demand is for them, so check the prices before you post!

2) All loot you get, from chest, from gathering and so on are displayed on the right edge off the screen, and only for a few seconds. So check that side off your screen the next time you loot a chest

3) same as 2, check the right side off the screen

4) I think you have equiped a “water weapon”, like spears, tridents and stuff. They are the weapons you use when you are under water and are different from those you use on land.

5) not sure about that, but i also got that message once and it means you are on the border off the instance. On your map you see an area that is cross out and this is the zone that lies outside the instance. When you walk into that part, you exit the instance and have to enter again. But i’m not sure how it works on your progress. Maybe just try it out if you have the time for it and if not, just keep inside the instance

I hope that i could help you a bit and i’m sure that if i’m wrong, somebody better informed will correct me real soon

New To Guild Wars , Please some advice

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

Ok, each their own opinion, but i will share what i have learned.
GW2 is a “different” MMO. You need to learn how this game is played and that is not always as easy as it seems. The active fightstyle, dodging, a different agro system then in most other MMO’s, the Dynamic Events, getting exp for things like exploring, crafting, checking out Vista’s,…… this was for me a total new approach to MMO.

And it took me some time to get used to it all. I’m playing the game now over 3 months and still learn things almost every day. Haven’t set a foot in a dungeon yet, only briefly touched WvW and sPVP is something i’m still scared off

So you will need some time to adjust to all those things. There are no restrictions to any race, meaning, all races can play all professions. But not all professions are as easy to learn. In my experience, a Ranger, Warrior or Guardian are the most easy to learn. Ranger has his, well, range offcourse and a pet to tank.
Warrior is a fighting tank, with a nice pool off health and brutal force to overcome the enemy.
Guardians are a strong support class that can stand in a fight and come out victorious.

The elems, yes, they are great to play, they are wonderfull strong in the hands of a good player and you will have tons off fun with them. But if you feel that it’s not going well, try out another class like i suggested. Just to get the basics about the game. You can read guides, posts and manuals, you can watch hundreds of youtube movies, but you will only learn to play the game by getting ingame and PLAY it

So if you really want to play an Ele, go ahead, but don’t dismiss them when its not going well. Just try another profession to learn the game and then return to your Ele!

How to level fast?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

All is said before, but i would strongly press the point about relaxing!
This is a game that plays from lvl 1 to 80, and it is not like WoW has become, a rat race to the level cap and then start grinding (and yes, i DID play WoW for many years, and yes, it WAS a good game, now it is just a grindfest and there A LOT of elitist players that don’t know the word Community anymore)
So if this is your first char, take your time, see the world Anet created and enjoy your journey to lvl 80. And even with an alt, if you take another race, with another background, you get a new feeling (well, at least in the beginning area’s).

Profession Confusion!

Noppy.1348

Milanu, both Pinder and Morrigan have told you enough about the professions, so no more from me.
But the thing about getting booted from groups because you are “the wrong” profession, well, that’s just a shame!
I would like you to check out the link in my signature. We at Operation Union are a friendly group of casual minded players that welcome all who stand for the same as we do. We will not kick you from a group/party or guild, just because you play a Mesmer, or an Ele, or just any other class. You are welcome and we like to help out and having fun all the way.
So check it out (but you don’t need to read all 28 pages ) and maybe you feel at home. Good luck and have fun!!

If its ok to suggest a non MMO game, i lost hours upon hours in Skyrim.
A great game with so much potential where you can do what you want, and with a very active modding community, there is a lot off extra content to do. Even complete turnovers to bring the world into another familiar setting (Games of Thrones to mention one).
As for MMO’s i agree with you that there is not much on the market at this point that is any different then the rest. For me GW2 was a welcome break from the Wow type off game. But if you really want to play MMO, did you try Star trek Online?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

^ Totaly true!!
It is a bit off a different game then your traditional MMORPG and Anet doesn’t take you by the hand and show you all that there is to be done. You get a few blocks off text to read in the very beginning off the game, and then you are on your own.
But as Nay said, stick with it, do the DE’s (the best exp comes from them in my opinion) and check to see you do your daily stuff (Hero screen, last button on the left, choose daily) as they also give you a thing to focus on and some nice exp, gold, carma and mistyc coin as a reward.
Stick with it and you’ll get soon the hang off it, it took me more then 2 monts to get things going for me, and i’m still learning stuff every day, after more then 3 months off gaming.

Leveling...how to do?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Noppy.1348

Noppy.1348

Not much to add, Lankybrit did a good job in pointing all out to you.
What i do want to share is that if you do your dailies, and you explore the area’s completely, you will level rather fast. I’ve found myself a level our 5 above the area lvl cap when i finally got it all done. So there is no trouble in leveling as long as you do Dynamic Events and explore.
Crafting indeed brings in a lot off exp, but the most you get from the discovery off new items (part off the crafting screen). You do need a good stock off mats or the gold to buy them from the Trading Post, so not so easy for your first character.

Agriope, welcome to the game!

As for hybrid, i would indeed suggest a guardian. You can go fully head on and smash things with 2handed hammers, 2handed swords, sword/shield,…. there so many options.
Not that much possible in range weapons though, but we do have a few nice skills that bring us in the middle off the fight from a distance. I would suggest to try it for a level or 10-15 and see what you think about the play style.
Also keep in mind that with all those different weapons you can use, your playstyle will differ with each weapon you use.

Hey Mr Rawky!
Another new face to Tyria, and i warmly welcome you to the community!

About your questions: race is not important in a way that it will make any difference for a new player.
A class that is “better” for a new player: well, you have Ranger, if you prefer to keep the fighting away from you, and it is indeed a ‘not-that-difficult’ class to learn the game with. If you like more the close and in-your-face playstyle, take Guardian or Warrior (but i prefer Guardian, as you can be soooo many things)

As somebody mentioned a guild that could help you, i would rever to the link in my signature. We have a great thread going that wants to unite people from all over the globe to help each other out. As a result off that thread, we started a guild (no mendatory to join, but it makes helping a bit easier ) and you can join that as well. We do have players all over the world and on most servers, so there should be somebody you can hook up with to learn the basics off the game!

Enjoy your stay in Tyria and lets hope the download if done real soon

The server jumping will maybe some day a paying service, but no ETA on that. What did happend is that in the beginning there was no restriction on changing servers, then they made it 1 jump per day, and now its 1 per 7 days. So it could last for months or they could change it today. No telling when.

I haven’t played on any off the servers your mentioning, but the only drawback that i can see is that it can be difficult to initially join one off those (if a server is stated FULL, you can’t join that one) but once you are on a server, if it does get crowded, you just get into the overflow servers when you want to join. No time wasted on waiting in a line. It is a bit difficult to catch up on your guildies at that point, but you will join the real server soon enough and then can play on.
Oh, and this is just me guessing, but on a very full server, i would guess that the end content area’s are a bit overcrowded, where everybody is running Orr all the time. But again, that is just a guess from me, not sure if that really is the case.

Please help me decide a new class.

Hey Sheepy!

I would give you my experience with Guardian and Hunter

Guardian is a tank! Simple and honest, they are build to stand in the fight. My Guard is only lvl 44 atm but as Dan has told, you have the feeling that you can help others so much, it’s a wonderfull class to play. I too use GS as main weapon, have tried Hammer but it feels a bit slow atm, and a Staff for that ranged moment. You will not do the most damage, but that is not an issue, you must stand strong in the fight for condition control and buffing. So far having sooo much fun with my Guard that i consider it to be my main char atm.

Ranger, i played that a lot to! The only reason why i stopped was that i didn’t liked my chars looks and story. I went male human but it never felt right for me. So i stopped playing him before the minor patch. Before i stopped, i had a great time as it was my first char and it went all good in pve. Didn’t tried PVP yet but i’ve seen people using rangers in WvW and they seem a good teamplayer in assaults (love the range off the longbow).

Necro, i have no experience with them, they are next on my list to try out But a few people in my guild told me that they rock!! And you don’t need to play the summoner, you can spec in a total different way.

That is all i wanted to tell you, hope you have some use for it. Good luck and let us know what way you went

Totally Newbtastic !

Hey Flux!
Welcome and good to see that you are willing to learn and listen to other people!

As for your server: i would suggest Gunnar’s Hold, the one i’m currently on myself. We have an active server and most people seem friendly enough to give you a hand when you ask for it (had someone running all across the map just to come rescue me and revive me, great time)

Race and professions are all possible, it is not like in most MMO’s where certain professions are not possible for certain races. Total freedom here! And as far as i have seen, there is not a specific bonus for any race for any profession. So see what race you like and what profession you would like to try. If it’s not working out, you have 5 slots so create something new.

For your profession, that is a whole different story.
You say you played other MMO’s but i must warn you, this is NOT your typical MMO.
If you have played a lot off WoW (as i did before GW2) you have to make a brutal adjustment

There are not Healers, Tanks and DPS as you know them. The fighting is much much more mobile and depends on you understanding each and every skill your char has. The weapons all give different skills, so you need to learn how to combine them to a style that you like the most.
Dodging is also important to learn, although a lot off people will agree that this only is really needed in the top levels. But learning it will be needed

So a whole new type off playstyle is needed for this game. And for that Elem is not the best class. I’m sure there are a lot off people out there that will disagree with me, and tell you to try Elem if that is what you want to play.
You can try it, but don’t throw the profession out of the window if you feel like you suck in the beginning. Stick with it, or try a more durable prof to learn the game mechanics with. I would suggest a Guardian, Warrior for close combat and Ranger for range combat.
I have a Ranger and Guardian myself and they both can hold there own in battle. My next one will be a Necro or Elem.

Also, a good point made by Gimme, don’t try to do a lot off crafting on your first char untill you have a nice stack off resources gathered and have some money on the side.
I made that mistake and for that, my first char was a poor poor guy that had to beg for money to buy a trait book at lvl 40.

PS. If you look for a good bunch of helpfull people, check the thread on my sig. We also have a guild, called The Legion of Honor XIII. We have members all over the world and on all servers, but there is a nice bunch off us on Gunnar’s Hold. Just read the first 2-3 pages from my sig link and see if you like it.

@Aye: Operation Union is NOT a guild, this is a community initiative to bring like minded people together so that they can help each other out in different parts off the game.
The Legion of Honor XIII IS a guild, we are the same people, but you don’t need to join us if you don’t want to. O:U will allways be here, the guild is only a way to connect with each other in the game on a more user friendly base.
Hope this helps you a bit.

@Beyond Gifted: was this your only character? If not, you should check your new char’s guild tab, there will be us waiting to except.
If you totaly lost us, just let somebody know and you’ll get a second invite

To all the new people, welcome!
We are still a crazy bunch off friendly people that play a more ‘relaxed’ game so take your time and when in need for some help/information, just ask, i’m sure there will be somebody that has the awnser for it!
