Why people bother trolling with the response that you should have to counter this nonsense is beyond me. There’s a reason thieves can’t do this in spvp, and that’s because it’s broken. Nerf it already so we can move on.

Mesmer counters it well with into the void and gs kb, but that isn’t the point. It shouldn’t be in the game to begin with.

I think we’d lose in off-peak hours to the likes of T5-6 servers. Oh well… we stomped ET’s last ditch defense defend the homeland zerg and dealt with YB’s zerg at the same time many times last night in ETbg. We’re better in prime time and I can live with that.

Steelseries ftw,1-‘-’ arein reach, but I have to rebind the f keys. Anyway it’s personal preference imo. If you’re fluid with your setup and don’t have issues (targeting,turning, etc) then you’re probably just fine.

That said, you’re wasting keys if you’re playing any class other than ranger, engi, ele, or mesmer. So that might be reason enough to switch them.

Get another character slot….. granted gold→gems is a bit high atm because of the event…. I spent 10g at the start to get the extra slot I need.

Anyway, as others have said mesmer is strong in pvp, and end game pve, but low level (sub 40) pve is a major pain. I don’t think we’re that great in events, but it’s not horrendous if you use GS and sword mh to bust out some decent aoe.

The mystic forge stuff is still bound and still requires you to buy the siege as mats so it really doesn’t accomplish what I was going for. Which is another way to produce siege without having to farm for gold, or farm kills/zerg surf for badges. Personally I get enough badges to take care of it, but most people in my guild don’t get nearly as many kills as i do.

Yeah, i don’t see why it should even be account bound since guilds should be allowed to pool their siege in the vault. It should also be crafted, but that would probably require some reworking of tradeskills and maybe even siege itself.

I understand why gold isn’t a flat rate. What I don’t understand is why gems traded for gold are worth 50% less than the other way around. Sure there should be a difference, but 50% seems excessive.

I have to agree with pretty much everything you said. I know some people want to be anonymous in, and they could be given the option to hide their name from the enemy. It shouldn’t be shoved down our throat along with all the other terrible design decisions (lack of large grouping, and even commander is sub par).

You don’t have to kill clones to counter a shatter build, that’s the thing. You dodge mind wrack. Usually that means you’re dodging cry of frustration as well since they hit at pretty much the same time. After that you’re free to fight the mesmer itself while only having to deal with distortion for 10s. 24s after the initial burst you’ll have to dodge again. The boon strip has more issues than the damage itself and honestly with the lack of stripping in this game if you nerf that aspect you need to redistribute it elsewhere.

I think xeph actually has good suggestions. The only things i’d alter about it are distortion (if it’s only going to be 1s immunity you might as well replace it) and decoy… I’d do what he suggested but apply stealth to the mesmer for .5-1s so that it can remove marking. Maybe even make decoy ground targeted, but then it’s just a beefed up blink, which honestly even with the way he proposed it is an issue.

That’s funny too. Every pet seem stupid but mesmer phantasms are deadly. And If I shatter them, they chase my enemy. Even if he dodges, they change their path and hit most of the times. But it’s even better when I have three clones, I shatter them and before they hit I can summon three more and shatter them too.
6 suicide clones at the same time applying damage and confusion.

Tell those idiots to roll into the shatter so they explode while you’re immune. I know it’s a difficult concept requiring someone to think, but it does wonders. Shatter build is fairly strong. At the same time it’s telegraphed so much than only bads get hit with a majority of the damage. If you can’t dodge a mind wrack every 10.5 seconds, or the big burst (cry + mind wrack) every 21 seconds you should probably give up fighting other builds that have more consistent weaker bursts. Portal needs a change, but honestly I can’t even respond to all the misinformation in this thread like the all powerful condition mesmer, or the mesmers buffing entire zergs. Go play the class, then come back… at least do that before you spout nonsense.

There is a red bar that appears below a skill if the target is out of range. That said, this would be a terrible idea considering we’re strong as it is although I don’t think our summon skills should go on full cd when they fail I understand why they do.

Seems fine to me. It’s pretty much even if not slightly below thief and mesmer. Then again those are considered too strong as well. You can dps an ele down after the first mist form, you have to force the first one though.

Mesmer can have better burst and aoe. That said unless they want to reduce burst across the board they probably shouldn’t touch backstab much. Culling and holding points b/c of stealth is the biggest issue in wvw atm.

Treb repair has been beaten to death. No the repair kit should not be able to be taken through the portal.

The shatter build though… that’s a different story. The counter is any aoe spam class killing the clones =p There’s a reason it’s not run in wvw, and I promise it’s not because another build is better fighting groups. It’s because clones die running into the zerg. It’s fine if you burn mirror images in melee, but outside of that you’re not getting a good mind wrack. The same goes for decent teams in tpvp.

It’s a strong build, and something does need to be changed in tpvp’s balance. I don’t think shatter build should be first though.

As others have said, the repair cost isn’t a bit deal because you should be making far more than you’re dropping on repairs. Upgrades are a huge pain though. I’d kinda like the option to pay in badges like siege.

The zones are too small as it is. I hope if they make new wvw maps they’ll consider making them larger to make travel time impact zergs. That said, I wouldnt be opposed to dead bodies warping to a type of siege construct as long as they have to be rez’d by a player.

Mesmer has been touched the last few patchs…. I’ll give you that they’re taking it slow, but you can say the same about their approach with thief. The sad thing is, they nerf things that mesmers don’t need to be op’d in tpvp.

I don’t have many issues with thieves… sometimes i’m caught off guard and blame myself, but generally they’re easy to deal with. Much harder to deal with in team fights, but still possible.

The only real advice you gave that might keep people alive is going a bunker build, which they would do regardless of your advice if it is viable for their class. For everyone else you need to be aware of how thief burst is performed, and have very good reaction time. Anything short of that will have you eating dirt. Every single class in the game can counter thief burst, it is purely a reaction time issue.

That said, I’m not saying thief is balanced. I’m not fond of any of the heavy burst… but in the game’s current state with bunker builds how can you propose to deal with one and not the other?

I have yet to see a class that can’t compete in spvp. Ranger feels a bit on the weaker side but I play all class in tpvp and with the exception of ranger i didn’t feel that any class can do better. Mesmer and thief are on the strong side… but by no means are they the only classes in spvp that are viable. This is a l2p issue, as one of the previous posters said when referencing your comments about previous games…. it was painfully obvious that you aren’t playing well or you just don’t fit well with the playstyle of the classes you listed.

Warrior is fine, they just can’t be played like a pubstomper in tournamentsj if you want to do well.

How interesting. In the PvE forum posts, people complain that the PvP is so much better. In the PvP forum posts, people complain the PvE is so much better.

Sounds like the care bears are just angry they can’t have raids. The pve zones and dungeons are fine. They could add more, but when faced with 4 spvp maps (raid really shouldn’t count but whatever) and the slew of issues with wvw they really don’t have a basis for those claims.

Not having issues with crashes in spvp. They do seem a bit slow on pvp changes considering how much work they put into throwing pumpkins,candle sticks, and candy corn all over the place. Hopefully it comes fairly soon, because the pvp does need work. I understand class balance needs to be a fairly slow affair, but with regards to paid tournaments and the lack of maps it really is rather sad to see it taking so long.

The escort or increased supply delivery should at least double dolyak hp. It won’t stop them from being solo’d, but it will make it so you have a chance to defend them. That said I’d go a step further and give even more defense to dolyaks with the tier 2 upgrades (one of which is 50 freaking silver without a decent return).

Another, perhaps better way to go about it would be to make the dolyak immune to damage while the 2 escort guards are alive.

Thief has some issues. Most of them I can deal with, but the culling in wvw is ridiculous… and since anet can’t seem to fix it they need to increase the duration on the stealth debuff to 6s in wvw and have it applied everytime you come out of stealth, not just when you attack from stealth.

That said backstab will get a nerf whether you like it or not so there’s not much point fighting about it.

Edit: I guess I should point out that mesmer should probably be hit with a nerf bat as well. Before the bads come in droves to point and cry “mesmer is op’d you can’t judge us”.

Everyone in your guild should show up on the map in wvw regardless of how far they are. They should also have a different color dot. This is of course the lazy workaround …. how you make an mmo without a function to make large groups is beyond me.

You’d think squads would be close to a raid since it costs 100g, but sadly it’s trash as well considering you can’t even see the dots of the entire squad on the map.

The lack of large groups is probably my biggest issue with this game. Something that has been a basic feature in nearly every modern mmo… yet was abandoned by arena net… it doesn’t make you innovative when you replace something that works with trash.

It didn’t hurt that much. As others have stated 3 phantasms out at a time isn’t very efficient. Then again, neither is mesmer in pve… it doesn’t have trouble so much as other classes can do the same thing faster. The advantage is mesmer can deal with more difficult encounters easier. It’s worth the trade off if it fits your playstyle.

Maybe, or you’d fail to carry a low server since you can’t be in every bg the entire time. At least on BG the pugs will carry the off hours, especially considering they got a decent chunk of the dragonbrand population 2 weeks ago which was oceanic. So the statement still stands…. I’d rather they closed transfer for all of you idiots who can’t stick with a server. At least close the wvw off for a week so you’re not kitten the rankings to mean nothing.

RAs wouldn’t make a large impact on this game for the simple fact that they won’t be extra abilities on your bar. They’ll have to compete with class utilities, and elites (which are supposed to be overpowered). Sure you could go the passive stat route, but actives are more fun, and easier to balance than stats especially considering stats for pve/wvw are already ridiculously high compared to spvp (which is broken in its own right against the poor lowbies).

At the same time the other posters are right, the grind must continue once they implement it (raising caps).

You can’t compare RAs in daoc to the ones that would be in this game though because I seriously doubt Anet would introduce such a large power gap into the game if they did it at all. In many ways it could help wvw if they did it correctly. A shorter cd stun break to balance out the fact that you’d face more sources of cc, a better condition removal for the same reason. A more group oriented elite skill would help classes with already weak elites. Sure the elites could just be looked at for the sake of balance, but the condition/stun breaks will not. Maybe even adding some ward type utilities that give the # of enemies in the immediate vicinity.

Minor things like these would be large for the player themselves and their enjoyment of the game (while also adding more strategy to wvw), but rather small in the grand scheme of a fight.

Aoe pull (that can be used on walls to pull people off…although only very effective with two coordinated mesmers it still works great on edges of mountains or anything without a lip)

Berserker doesn’t require los- I think this is a bug, but hasn’t been fixed yet. You can get next to a wall with siege targeted and as long as you’re in range the zerker will summon so you can take out siege noone else can.

Abundance of reflect- temporal curtain (your swiftness/aoe pull) can be traited to reflect, same with phantasmal warden (though the bubble is small), and mirrored feedback can all have fairly short cooldowns. 2 Mesmers can almost keep reflect up 100% of the time (not counting warden since it is unpredictable)

Portal- Causes rendering bug in large zerg fights so those porting are invisible. You can hide in a keep and get people back inside. The only mobility option that I know of for golems.

Blink – The longest range, and shortest cd blink other the sword 2 on a rogue.

Decent Stealth – 2 options for group stealth if you need it.

Time Warp – You can’t beat 10s quickness is a bottleneck defense against greater numbers…. it has won an outmanned fight many times for me.

Minor stuff- ground target cleanse field (same type as mirrored feedback so they fit in the same spec well), ethereal fields bring a decent confusion burst to your group, temporal curtain’ swiftness has 50% up time with the cd reduction trait for your group.

I don’t know how you’re having issues with one of the easiest down states to deal with. What happens when the mesmer gets you down? Thief and necro can do more damage, ranger and guardian heal while attacking, ranger and engi can rez themselves almost instantly (spirit elite and elixir R), and warrior can get back up to stomp so really the only thing that should die to a downed mesmer is a bad engineer and an ele.

Side note… Rally is terrible.

It didn’t hurt much at all. Granted I think the changes are an uninformed knee jerk reaction. If they wanted to nerf phantasm cds all they had to do was change the 1st minor trait in illusions so you have to get weapon traits to reduce phantasm cooldowns. (w/ only one trait per weapon rather than stacking 2). That would also fix some of the issues with staff (5s cd phase retreat). Instead they went strait for phantasms directly, which was laughable considering the one phantasm that needed a change wasn’t touched in the slightest. That being berserker on GS since it doesn’t require LoS.

They’ll make another sweep, and probably have a fix just as backwards as this one to screw the class over for a couple of months. At least we’ll have shatter builds to fall back on… hopefully.

I delete characters at a whim just to have a different race, but my mains are stuck as they are. I’m sure i’m not alone in wanting to change my character’s race. The only problem is the story quest, not sure how they’d work that out unless they just kept you doing your original race’s line.

20/20/0/25/5 (GS + sword/focus). Glass cannon build, but I mix it with mirrored feedback and sometimes null field. It’s not a 1v1 build, but you can make it work if you play well since almost everyone keeps a ranged set and they like to use it even though curtain and feedback give me 11s of reflect. I use rare rubies instead of sigils, more crit damage that way. I used to run 30 30 0 0 10 mantra build that did fairly well, but the mobility was an issue since that spec used sword or pistol oh.

Doing nothing devalues US prime time time investment. Trying to alleviate the problem devalues oceanic and off peak player’s time investment. Giving oceanic players their own servers isn’t going to solve the problem either.

So you’re stuck trying to alleviate the problem of night capping slightly, so you don’t discourage off peak playing, but don’t make prime time players feel like it doesn’t matter what they do since a heavy off peak pop server is going to completely own all 4 maps (for hours) by the time prime time comes back around.

I don’t see match making fixing this unless the primary factor in pairings happen to be the activity during certain hours. Then you’ll still have issues with player skill, but at least that is bound to improve over time.

I’ve been on the same side as mesmers glitching into towers/keeps (i’m a mesmer, i know the class). It’s funny to watch them defend it right after twitching and flying up to the top of the wall…. I mean they could at least make it believable and lay down the first portal on the wall before people get there, but they don’t even try to be discrete about it.

The rendering bug makes me think they should just take portal out completely. I like the ability, but honestly you’re going to have wvw degenerate into portal exploits and watch people walk away.
