The incentive is fun. I don’t believe that there’s any major design flaw on the side of fun here, but that it’s simply a different game, and not to your tastes.

Ignorant troll comments ftw.

Take all rewards from pve and see how many people have a “taste” for it. Incentives add to fun and there is no reason to avoid them other than trolls saying there shouldn’t be any.

Anyway, I agree the maps are too small and feel less like an epic war and rather a tiny battleground. The keep thing being camped for days is just the game being new… this kind of thing will never be new again so you won’t get the same feeling.

I agree this game could have the cap raised without many issues. I wouldn’t argue to make it unlimited because I still have nightmares about sorc/bw ramp defense.

@Rhyis: Daoc had 200+ man zergs, you didn’t play at peak or even a year or two after peak if you only saw 30. That said, ranged aoe required a target and while gtaoe was in the game, it ignored los and was very very weak compared to any other damage in the game.

I don’t think we’ve been intentionally double teamed, but even if we have been it should be taken as a compliment. We’ve done fine despite being focused heavily by YB & TC. We do need to work on our defensive game though, it is weak because when we perceive that we’re “finished” with a zone we move out, leaving all that work to be snatched away quickly. We need a bit more communication between the zones to migrate attackers to defense when the enemy’s main force arrives. This is what this post should’ve been about, not tears about being double teamed.

Dear FA,

While you were taking the bay in TC borderlands with your zerg and 8 trebs, your own borderlands seems to be a bit…. non blue. Fun times. Hope it was worth it.

Edit: Added map.

2 Smaller guilds working together wasn’t the cause for losing our own BL. If it was then our server has more issues than us choosing to attack a BL that YB seems to be afraid of. Either way this sounds more like you being frustrated that none of the mesmers you had there seem to understand the concept of using stealth and portal to destroy a few trebs.

Decoy when they steal… who burns distortion w/o clones on something a thief with a brain will just wait 1s to circumvent? Tanky pisol/dagger + caltrop spamming thieves are very painful though.

I am sorry, I was not aware of the WvW status as I never played it. Not having the time to level or even farm my character, I sticked to the most affordable form of PvP available, thus the meaning of this post.

May I ask why the chance to cast phantasms out of LoS was so needed for the mesmer in WvW?

@Sobex, yeah I see your point, even tho I never experienced foliage breaking los (or did and never noticed), you’re right.

On a side note, what the flop is CoC? I suck with acronyms

Because walls have little lips at the edge that make using normal straight line, non ground target abilities very difficult if not impossible. Since our only real damage that is ground targeted is mind stab we used zerker as a crutch. We still manage, but we’re not attacking anything on the wall other than idiots who jump on the lips.

My shatter build is about as close to a stealth build as you’ll get without getting the 1s duration trait, desperate decoy (unpredictable trait), and running veil (trash utility unless you’re stealthing a very large number of people). I run torch oh w/ cd reduction, decoy, and mass invis. I can actually do pretty well at keeping supply camps from being capped by zergs with clever use of stealth, distortion, frenzy, dodge, and blink. My record so far is around 15 minutes but they were horrid players.

The prestige actually works pretty well for me in wvw just because the extra aoe dmg + aoe burn is usually enough to make the difference between a dead bunker and one skulking away at 5-10% health casting a heal. Not to mention it helps support my aggressive playstyle… charging into 30+ can be tricky w/o stealth sometimes.

Anyways, the build is 20 20 0 0 30 with standard shatter traits + torch cd reduction.

Don’t they only have 2 devs for class balance? Kinda makes you wonder how many devs wvw has…..

Certain spots in the maps need to be redesigned, a cliff edge here, a tower of rubble there, an immune wall or two made breakable. There are many minor tweaks needed in wvw on top of major issues like culling and progression. Sadly I’ve already got my hopes up for elder scrolls because of matt firor’s work on daoc.

Cool story, but if your mesmers don’t even notice that 60% of their main damage ability is gone, they probably don’t play the class any better than people on this forum.

lol qft, I wouldn’t bring that up again, it only makes you look foolish to come and brag about mesmers who can’t pay attention to their damage. That said gs can still be used in shatter build just fine….. then again so can torch.

The bug fix is painful, and we’re pretty much forced to cut off reinforcements or use siege, but I guess warriors aren’t far off from that already and they’re “balanced”. Hopefully the damage nerf is a bug, but I’m still doing fine with GS even in it’s current state. Granted wvw is full of idiots who you could farm on pretty much any class regardless of whether or not they run a counter build.

Seriously, the amount of overreaction here is ridiculous. Nerf???? 30 second cd to portal is pretty much negligible in its effects. Moa? we now get it underwater, and from what I’ve checked with my guildies the only noticeable changes we saw were skills 4 (a typical moa daze) and 5 (a warrior type charge).

And the LoS thing? absolutely broken as it was. Some of the comments I’ve seen……. >.> you can swap to staff on sieges, I do, and I have no problem hitting targets on walls. You know what? lets have thief summoned thieves not need LoS, and Elementalist and Necro pets! All pets! any pets!.

Mesmer remains one of the strongest classes in the game. I didn’t really notice the blind thing, since with Iwarden I had already seen it blocked/obstructed/evaded and not spawn, so I thought it was the same with all those kinds of skills (also thought moa worked that way) and it makes sense to me.

Yes, you use staff to use a high cd aoe that does pretty much 0 dmg. I don’t mind the los nerf, but I do wish they had the foresight to know we’d be worthless in offensive siege other than support features and feedback (which still ignores los o noes nerf).

I was liking shatter build anyways and this gave me more reasons to run it, especially with the ninja nerf to zerker damage and the failed fix for phantasmal haste.

I miss healing, and I know a few people who quit this game quickly because they can’t fill that role here. I didn’t like bads being carried by good healers, but they really need to re think how they want to move forward with what you can focus on in builds because it does dumb down the game in the long run to have support be an afterthought with only bunker and dps to satisfy people.

I loved the leaderboards in daoc. No you don’t get shiny ranks for defending or running supplies. Is that really an issue? If it is you should be up in arms because your reward is nothing compared to kills/objectives. Otherwise you’re just trying to troll and should take it elsewhere.

Pretty sure we (FA &DH) decided before the match start that we should stomp HoD as a nice goodbye as you plunge into the bottom tiers. We had cookies and milk at the party.

In reality I think FA are starved for any kills they can get. I’m looking for a fight even if that means ignoring keeps/towers.

WvW is NOT PvP. So don’t call this issue a PvP mechanic. It’s closer to a PvE mechanic in a server vs server setting where PvP and PvE meet. ANet has stated that WvW was going to be aix of servers duking it out in a PvE setting so PvE settings apply.

You want pure PvP go play sPvP or tPvP.

Such a well thought out response… except the issue is in spvp as well with bosses and sharks. That said I don’t have an issue with it except in one particular instance, and that is underwater vs a warrior with sweet revenge slotted. Granted water combat is horrible as far as balance is concerned so it’s not really an issue with the rally mechanic as much as it is underwater downed state.

When the clones do large damage consider it our adrenaline burst ability. It has a cd and it has a telegraph (clones run in). It’s no more op’d than 10k+ eviscerates. In short, l2p.

Can’t agree more with lewis though, people want to melee us when we’re most dangerous in that situation.

Well in the defense of siege killing, there are many places siege can be placed safely in all towers and keeps. That said, arrow carts and ballista tend to be on the walls so they get dropped by mesmers. At the same time well placed AoE will usually kill these as well. I don’t like it ignoring los, but at this point I do think it’s intentional otherwise they would’ve fixed it as quickly as they fixed lightning flash which has the same issue for elementalist.

Just want to throw some things out there.

1- Winds of Chaos is a projectile
2- The cleanse mantra doesn’t cleanse allies, only yourself
3- Confusion is a condition, power does nothing for it…. welcome to gw2
4- Confusion can not have high stacks on you a majority of the time unless you’re getting chained with combos, or you’re in the water (trident clones spam bouncing confusion). If you’re in a 1v1 that means the duelist and staff clones need to die as they are the main sources of combo confusion with zerker and warden being minor sources. Confusion does hit hard at high stacks, but they tend to be short duration spikes unless you’re doing something wrong.

5- Pro tip, shooting feedback with a projectile will not only reflect back at you, but it will also put a stack of confusion on you…. so don’t shoot the reflect bubble.

Keep an eye on your conditions, learn the applications of confusion, learn to dodge the major applications when possible, learn to mitigate the effects of the abilities that do land, and kitten stop with the tears.

TLDR: Confusion is fine, l2p

Nevermind the fact that they probably want to keep everyone happy so they sell more expansions which is going to be their largest source of income. I’m sure you’re right though…

I don’t think it’s make or break, but spvp does need to be looked at seriously. I do wvw most of the time, just because structured is a mess and lacks content.

Best 5man roaming setup?

I wouldn’t look for optimal in each of those roles, but rather a good mix to obtain them all.
I’d go with Guardian, Mesmer, Thief, Warrior, Ele though. Maybe ranger instead of warrior, but it’d be more of a support role w/ spirits + healing spring(which is great with the cluster bomb spam of the thief… you can easily get out 20k in heals just from the blast water combo).

4 people in that group have group swiftness, 3-5 can give out boons, 3 can cleanse (not counting light combos), All 5 have control (ranger is a little low, but the elite root is good enough to make up for it), 3-5 have good aoe damage (mesmer zerker+staff ele alone is great aoe), single target burst can be done by mesmer and thief, while the other 3 will do decent damage.

I wouldn’t really depend on mesmer chaos storm for boons, but that’s me. Warrior, ele, guardian, ranger, and even thief are more reliable sources and at least then you know what you’re getting. Besides, I think mesmer is better off with focus and gs for aoe damage and the reflect/pull/swiftness/cripple. Reflect is huge in wvw and this group has a decent amount between guardian and mesmer.

I think ET is my favorite thing about this week…. they might be demoralized a bit, but at least they’re trying to stick around in their own bg. Not to mention their guild AoN was doing really well last night in the YB bg considering they only had like 6. Anyways, good fights all around and don’t get too upset YB you’ll still win this match… even if it is going to be painful for you. Honestly we’re not ready for CD anyways… unless the euro alliance xfers… then we might be able to put up a fight.

For shatter build you should consider 20 dom: shattered concentration (removes boons when you shatter). One of my favorite traits for that build.

The height advantage of attackers once you get into the inner of west keep is also an issue. The attackers are at a disadvantage using rams/golems on the inner but most smart groups just set up trebs on the bridge over the water gate.

I’d say fix trebs from garrison hitting the west keep, and redesign the east because it’s the best keep in the game by far. Reducing the height advantage of defense, and adding at least a west outter gate with a larger field to stand on would go a long way.

Maybe they intended west keep to favor attackers, and east keep to favor defenders, but there are still issues that need to be fixed while not disrupting that idea.

Pretty much have to agree with you. You can’t nerf burst while leaving bunkers alone, and you can’t nerf bunkers to leave glass cannons killing everything in sight. I think the bunker nerf would need to be taken a little further than protection, but that’s a dev decision. Quickness is indeed too strong, granted that’s coming from a mesmer… we have the best quickness in the game There are other things that need to be looked at obviously, but I think most people will agree that longer fights (but not ridiculously long… bunker vs bunker anyone?) would be more enjoyable.

DAoC did waypoints much better for rvr. You needed all four towers to port to a keep, and even then it was certain ones. I don’t see how they can do that here though without a redesign of the maps (which honestly considering how linear the home battlegrounds are wouldn’t be a bad idea). It at least allows for travel as soon as you know the enemy is attacking. Granted the maps are so small here there really doesn’t need to be waypoints at all.

The other stuff isn’t a big deal. Well defended keeps are a pain to get into as it is.

Stealth and try very hard to get a zerker off. Once he’s up don’t shatter him since he will pretty much cripple the thief immediately when it comes back out of stealth for the rest of the fight. You need decoy unless you’re running traited staff.

If they use shadow refuge us gs 5 or focus 4 to pull them out immediately before they get their stealth (if you pull them out of the field while the ring is still there they will drop stealth immediately). Other than that it’s just trying to keep your distance and dodge at the right moments… Granted this is really for a heavy stealth thief using dagger.

You’re in a pvp area, expect a fight. Siege can be annoying, but you can still counter it unless there are multiple engines and then you’re dealing with 6-10 people so you’d probably die to them anyways.

Halting Strike hits for 4-500 in wvw using full zerker+ruby orbs in a glass cannon spec. It can’t crit and doesn’t go off sometimes even if you do interrupt. It is a bad trait all around, wasted slot… you’d get more out of empowered illusions even in a shatter spec.

The other two are ok, although they both seem to be 1 tier higher than they should be.

There’s always feedback + temporal curtain spam =p I can’t argue with it though, honestly even with berserker siege is very boring. We can hit siege others can’t, but they can do the same with large radius aoes that reach slightly further than 1200 range. Not to mention they actually get to beat up players on the wall… we get to hope into the void pulls someone stupid off the wall and zerker.

Badges should come from keeps at least. Bags should auto loot (and you shouldn’t be able to log out while downed). WvW gear needs to be available for all stat combinations that are available via crafted and pve. WvW gear needs awesome unique skins (maybe even multiple skins for each armor type).

Make it require los, and boost mind stab so it is a viable aoe to kill things on the wall. Or maybe you could get rid of the obstructed nonsense from the tiny lip at the edge of a wall. Zerker needs a change, but the aoe damage isn’t the problem.

Useless no, but taking away our only decent aoe other than warden wouldn’t exactly be in our best interest considering we lack aoe damage as it is.

If you’re getting killed as a perma stealth thief you’re using the wrong build or don’t know how to time your abilities. You can spam cnd with .1s out of stealth and never run out of initiative. You can also run stealth utilities, and dagger pistol for fallback stealth. WvW points need to function just like the spvp ones, other than that they need to fix the culling bug and put the stealth debuff on people regardless of whether or not they attack in stealth.

That said it’s alot easier to troll about a broken mechanic than accepting the truth apparently. There are counters to mesmer’s zerker ignoring los, but that doesn’t mean it’s working as intended.
