I’ve noticed in some YouTube videos that sometimes people have a different party window than then standard 4 portraits that I see all the time. In fact, it looks like they have more than 4 other people in their party.

Of course I can’t find an example right at the moment, but I’ve seen pics and videos where people have just a name and a green bar for several different people (more than 4) in the party window spot.

Is this an alternate display mode for the party window? Or what am I seeing?

2 grouping bugs I’ve run across in WvW:

1 – yesterday I got a group invite from ‘Crystal Desert Invader’. Since I am on Tarnished Coast, I thought that was strange. I accepted and we were grouped, even though we were from opposing servers. We could chat and everything just like a regular group. Apparently he was dead and for some reason sent me a group request and it went through. He revived back at spawn and was going to disband the group and try to reinvite, but I never got the reinvite, so was it because he was dead at the time or what? Anyone ever seen this?

2 – why does the wrong server name show up on group mates? Every time I’m grouped with someone, it shows them as being from a server that we aren’t even playing that week, and they say it shows me as being from that same server. Strangely enough, it seems to show a server name that we are going to be matched up against the next week. Anyone know why that’s happening?

Speaking of wrong place, wrong time… I really need to learn not to go AFK inside a tower, even if there are no attackers around. Yesterday, hardly anyone on the map (or so I thought). I was in Greenbriar and went AFK to take the dog out real quick. Came back to see CD had taken over and planted a flag in my corpse as they ran through LOL

It’s been a fun week CD… lots of great fights. Looking forward to seeing how things go next week with Yak’s in the mix.

My ranger went from 21-80 in just over 2 weeks of almost exclusive WvW. I got from 71 to 80 (and made about 4g) in just a few hours yesterday running with a group during off hours. We capped everything (including Hills) and just kept running in a circle as the opposing server was capturing back behind us.

I wonder about that “Full” tag sometimes. My server is one of the ones that’s always Full, but there are lots of zones I go to that are nearly empty. Yeah, the Orr zones are fairly crowded, but not enough to offset all the empty ones I see.

I’ve seen other games that showed grey blobs while player models were rendering. Something like that would work, even just showing the name would help so if you see 30 name tags running at you, even though you only see 3 players, you know how to react.

Yes, they stack. Last weekend I was one of 3 defenders holding a tower against a 20+ zerg. They were attacking the gate, trying to build a ram. We each fired an arrow cart at the same time and within 2 shots, most of the zerg was dead. I picked up 10-12 bags from around my feet

I’ve targeted roots on other players with my bow, but if I’m rooted, even if I switch to my sword, I can’t remove them sometimes.

Only time I see it is when lots of players render all at the same time. Like when I run through a gate and suddenly there’s 30+ players on my screen that weren’t there before. A mass group exiting stealth at the same time might cause the same problem.

confirmed us the placement in CD of TC spies ^^([Pink] players with their guild tag… on our side suspected !!!).

I’m not in Pink, so I can’t say whether there was or not, but are you sure it was the same guild? There are guilds on other servers with the [Pink] tag, but they are different guilds. We ran into one such guild last week vs. SoR I know. Not sure if there are others on CD.

Is it a bug?

I’ve had it happen to me as well but hadn’t tracked down what was causing it. Perma-root with no way to remove it.

I’ve tried using binding vines on other players and they get out of them quickly, so I figured it was a combination or some other skill that I was getting caught in.

Looks like a player with 2 mesmer clones to me. As for the spell hitting you, I’ve seen that before. Running around during the Halloween event people spamming spells and they appeared to be hitting me, but I got no damage from them.

Right now (1:20 Central time on a Tuesday afternoon) half the U.S servers are “Full” the other half are “High” population.

Doesn’t look like the game is dying to me

The 8 files that changed on the client were probably not even related to the droprate fixes. Dropped items are surely controlled by the server I would hope.

Some people were saying that whales weren’t showing up on overflow servers. Maybe they are still there but you were in overflow?

I haven’t checked yet today, but they were there last night on TC.

If I can give you guys a little tip, when it’s 2 or 3 of you, and one of you goes down and the thief stealths, don’t presume it’s all safe and raise your buddy, I’m currently right next to you finishing him. Your best bet instead is to stick by your buddy and swing with a melee or just AoE right on your friend so that I can’t get to him, if I have low health, I’m probably not going to chance it if I see you pulling that, otherwise it’s a free kill on a downed person rather than throwing a spanner in the works and making the thief work harder. If there’s 3 of you, start raising immediately, I probably won’t have time to finish the kill animation.

So thieves can do the “finish them” move while stealthed? That explains it… I wondered how sometimes I’m out running supplies, or heading across the map solo and I get into a fight and go down, then nobody around, but suddenly a flag appears in my chest.

Fully upgraded, you are right – not in 1 minute, but I was just trying to make a point. I didn’t mean literally one minute.

However, I have seen groups with 3-4 golems take down a keep that the enemy had just captured (so no defenses yet) in not much more than a minute. That shouldn’t happen.

My ranger started WvW at level 21 and she hit 60 last night after ~ 2 weeks of playing a few hours in WvW each evening (mixed in with some Halloween events last week)

Last night in about an hour, she went from 58 to 60 just running in a zerg group. We made a large circuit of the map, taking every tower/supply camp/control point we could – we even capped it off by taking Garrison (which was a ton of experience in itself). It’s fun, and it’s great experience.

Like others said, don’t focus on leveling – it will drive you insane seeing how slowly the bar moves sometimes. Focus on helping your group or your guild take whatever objective they are taking. If you feel you are too squishy, stay behind the main lines and support your team with ranged attacks. Help defend keeps and towers your team already has in control. Every time you drive off an attack, you get experience. In fact, I think you get experience every 3 minutes that you hold off an attack, but don’t quote me on that – seems like I’ve seen it anyway.

I agree with SpaceLord – this is WvW, the fights should be large and epic. I love being in a 40 vs 40 pitched battle with total chaos everywhere.

However, there should be ways to prevent zergs from being over powered. Removing the ability of players to hit doors/walls is one idea that I like. But make siege equipment tougher. Usually if a keep is well-defended it’s difficult to even get a ram built, let alone keep it alive long enough to attack the door. Make the ram tougher and it won’t be necessary to build 3 at one door to hope one survives long enough to batter it down.

Nothing will stop a zerg from roaming from camp to camp. That’s just the way it is. But being able to zerg down a keep in 1 minute, even if the keep is upgraded, is stupid. Maybe as the guards are killed, more are summoned in proportion to the size of the attacking force. Dynamic Events scale now, why can’t guards scale too? If 30 people are attacking 5 guards, then 10 much tougher guards show up, etc.

I think there are ways that this can be addressed while still keeping WvW fun for everyone.

I’ve always thought ladders would be cool – more of a siege tower, than a normal ladder. Different sizes for different wall heights (each taking different amount of materials), but allows players to scale walls. Of course, defenders can attack it and it’s a single-file stream up the ladder, so that could be deadly to whoever is first through the top of the ladder.

Also thought it would be cool to launch flaming arrows with the arrow carts

The ability to build spike traps behind gates would be cool too – trap the zerg momentarily when they first burst through the gates and give the defenders a chance to pick them off

Follow a zerg group around and you can get 90% of a WvW zone completed without even trying. For the odd points you are missing, just pop in once in a while and see if that area of the map is under your server’s control. It’s really not that hard.

I went into WvW for the first time a little over two weeks ago with the same “OMG, I have to do this to get 100%!” feeling. I ended up loving WvW and have pretty much stayed there now

If getting a repair bill bothers you, do the runs naked. Then it’s just a little time you are out if you get killed.

quickness halves the time to do anything, so its a 1.5second stomp instead of 3. if you cast your interrupt as soon as you go down, you wont get quickness stomped.

But (for me anyway) the interrupt is on CD for a couple seconds when you go down

Yeah, I saw that – map was pretty evenly divided when I left for work this morning. Makes it more fun as we attempt to take it all back tonight

Great weekend CD and HoD – very good fights on all the maps I spent time in.

Happened to me yesterday: Ranger vs. Mesmer, 1v1. Ranger downs Mesmer, but is perilously close to death with pet down. Mesmer keeps porting around avoiding the killing blow while still nuking Ranger. Ranger ends up downed as well. Now Mesmer and Ranger are spamming downed abilities trying to survive. Both kill each other at the same instant. Probably not too rare, but I was laughing my head off when it was done (I was the Ranger)

Another one from this weekend. We’re holding a tower. Opposing forces zerging the gate, trying to build a ram. Me and two others are raining arrow cart volleys on them. In about one minute, I got experience from 27 kills and collected 15 bags from around my feet Then they nuked the arrow cart out from under me, so fun time was over

I know there is a champion giant in one of the mid-level zones that takes for-freakin’-ever to kill. I’ve helped kill him twice and both times it took 15-20 minutes or more with 10+ people wailing on him. Both times he dropped not a single copper in loot.

I don’t mind challenging. I (kinda) mind tedious… but I want to be rewarded at least enough to offset my repair costs

I’ve seen these as well. At least on the server I saw them, they were bots.

Besides the large buildings, do you have to get inside? Maybe it’s enough to strip naked* and run into the door then die and teleport out.

Even the smaller towers, you have to get inside the walls to get the PoI.

Just a quick heads-up “we will be patching at 7:30 PM PDT tonight, plan accordingly” would be nice.

First warning pops up on the screen in WvW maps and 15 seconds later you’re sent to LA. That’s just absurd!

I’m seeing a lot of “No n00bs” or “Good players only” in dungeon LFG spams these days. It is disheartening

Rapid Fire is so terrible.. The damage you see is total damage, not damage per hit.

Is that confirmed? If you watch a mob’s health bar, it drops progressively faster as rapid fire goes longer. Or at least it looks that way to me.

While I applaud the action, I hope it’s only temporary. The orbs add a dimension to WvW that will be missing without them. True, the current bonuses are way too overpowering IMO, but there should be some bonus for capturing the orbs. Several have suggested an exp/magic/karma boost – that would be a great idea I think!

I have no problem with an orb bonus, but make it one that’s not so obviously overpowered.

Give the server +XX points per round for having all 3 orbs or something. Not 15% health and 150 points to each stat. That just makes a lopsided match (like the TC/ET/SoR match this week) even more lopsided

Most definitely! Last night I actually saw a real live ET player for the first time in a couple days. He was killing the Skritt King for the skill point. So I helped him (I needed the point too). When we were done, we waved at each other and went on our merry ways

I’ve given up. I can make it just a few jumps past the exploding wall and no further. I’m too old and there’s too many other players in the way for me to see what I’m doing, and if I wait for them to move, I’m too slow to stay ahead of the liquid then. Fun puzzle, it’s just for someone younger than me

I understand there are side exits, and I use them frequently. My point isn’t that I can’t get out of my spawn camp. My point is that we can’t go anywhere on the freakin’ map without getting roll-stomped by an SoR Thief/Mesmer/Spinning warrior zerg… at least let us leave our front gates before face-rolling us.

Also, why can’t we build siege equipment in our home spawn camp? What’s the reasoning behind that?

To the SoR group currently camping our spawn on the ET BG… do you really have fun doing this? Seriously?

Mixed group, not any one guild. 8-10, sometimes more. Just camping our spawn. How do you report this? There’s no option on the “report” menu for spawn camping.

Granted I’ve only been playing WvW a short time, but even I can see that boosting one team’s health by 15% and adding 150 to each stat for having all 3 orbs is game-breakingly HUGE!

Sure, it’s a big accomplishment, and that team should be rewarded, but why not give them a 1-2% boost and then give them some amount of points for each turn where they hold the orbs.

I am not guilded (well, I formed a 1-man guild just for additional bank space) and I get along fine. I don’t have some of the resources that others from a big guild might have (money for siege equipment, for instance) but I manage to buy a few arrow carts and ballistas and contribute where I can.

However, if you’re in a guild, there may be some things that are easier. For instance, your guild may have a Teamspeak/Mumbl/Ventrilo server set up to allow quick communication, or you may have a designated group to watch your back when you are out in the world.

So no you don’t have to have a guild, but being in a guild might make things easier. If I were you, I’d head in solo and start looking at the regulars that are there whenever you are there. Get to know them, see if you would like to join their guild, that kind of thing. Who knows, you might like to join a guild after playing WvW

Well, according to the wiki:

“Player limits are not yet finalized, but current estimates are that each of the four maps support up to 500 players, split across the three worlds, for a total upper limit of 2,000 players across the entire WvW match”

So I guess I misunderstood. But I wonder if there is a limit per server, with the total being 500? Because SoR players talk about 3+ hour queues and there were several times yesterday when I got in immediately and the longest I had to wait was ~5 minutes during prime time last night, but we sure seemed outnumbered every time I was on.

I don’t understand something… last night I queue’d up for TC BG map and had to wait about 5 minutes to get in, so that means we had 500 people on the map right?

Where were they all? We were fighting pretty much at DE and WH most of the 3 hours I was on and there were nowhere near 500 TC people at those two places. And any time I left those areas with a group to get supplies or whatever, we never saw any other groups of TC out and about. Where were they?

Is it 500 total spread over all 4 BG maps? Or 500 per map? I don’t see where all these people were at.

I just started playing WvW last week, and I admit, I only went in there to get my map completion. But I enjoyed playing it, so I stuck around this week, even though SoR has dominated us from the outset. I don’t even look at the scoreboard since I know we are so far behind. I just listen to the commanders and help out with whatever objective we’re assaulting next. I totally suck at PvP, but I’ve managed to get a couple solo kills with my level 40 ranger, so I’m learning

I guess what I’m trying to say is this… ET/TC, don’t look at the score. Just focus on what you are fighting to take/defend at the moment and enjoy the game. Even though we are outgunned and overmatched, we manage to take an objective away from SoR once in a while and hold it for a little bit before they take it back.

Dragon events have had this zoom for a while. If you do the Claw of Jormag, you notice it zoom in during the transitions between phases, and zoom out again when the dragon lands and you can fight it.

I would love for this to be a permanent option to allow us to zoom out further.
