Oh, and those walls are awesome fallback spots. You can preplace a ballista a bit down the wall and fallback to that spot. One guy on a ballista shooting straight down on a group like that is absolute carnage.

This is basically taking advantage of zerg mentality. To beat the zerg, you have to understand the zerg. None of those people were willing to be the guy to make a push and die. And, who can blame them because zerglings never have each other’s back. They were basically scared of 4 people. There might have been a reason for that.

Now, me… I would have popped stability, JId to one of them and instantly used SoA which would have knocked some of them off of the wall and split them up. Another failing of zerglings is that they don’t typically think outside of the box.

That kind of communication is key to fighting. He is letting his team know that he is not in danger and can hold the line instead of having to fall back since his heal is down.

IMO, it really helps the viewer follow what’s going on with voice though. I’d definitely look into it. Also, you have three people that record including your ranger? See if they can render and send footage to you and work on some rotating viewpoints.

Matching transitions in action to transitions in music is really time-consuming though. I’d only do that if you really enjoy the movie-making process.

You might want to add some brightness and contrast to your footage as well.

Easily believable. There are other roamers around, however the roaming mindset usually drives them to go to enemy borderlands, where there’s more chance to run into the massive zergs and less chance to run into other roamers. That’s the way it goes :P

I only recall one fight with me there. It was at the ruins on the first night (iirc). One of your elems either came down after us or fell off the back side and we killed them quickly. We then portaled up and killed 3 more. I only recall four but I got there a little late.

The fight was over very quickly since you got hit offguard and were seperated. Pretty sure you were distracted by something else and we also outnumbered you. I didn’t see it as a clean fight so I deleted the footage.

I’m not really big into kittenswinging. What happens happens. Good groups are going to win some and lose some to other good groups.

Any group we “lose” to we would remember the guild tag, without evidence there is no point in even making a claim that you beat us. There is no guild that has beaten us in a straight 5v5 fight and this is because the only other group I would consider “good” would be AoN who are also on Maguuma.

It wasn’t a straight 5v5, as I mentioned in my post. If it was, I would not have deleted the footage. I didn’t see much point in keeping it since one of you got seperated from the others and got killed by 5 of us while our mesmer snuck up behind the rest of you. We then mesmer portaled on top of you and killed 3 others in about minute. That’s what happened. You were outnumbered and got hit offguard by a guild group that was communicating on mumble. There isn’t any shame in that.

I’m pretty sure that your group was distracted by some fighting that was going on nearby and just got caught flatfooted. It can happen to anyone.

Yeah, the JI/RoW combo can be really strong if it catches people off guard.

Side note: Props to Maguuma for having some dedicated and aware keep/tower defenders. We hate you, but that just means that you were doing your job. :P

Sad to say it but I really do think they need to put in some 3v3 and 5v5 death match maps in play. I did a ton of conquest during beta but hardly any in live since it just becomes dull after awhile.

There is a huge market for players out there that just. want. to. fight.

Quite a few of them have transitioned away from sPvP to WvW where you actually can find small group versus small group death match fights in the middle of all of the zerging.

Running away is not a loss. That is not how good elems and thieves view it. They consider it buying time, regaining health, and seeing if they have thinned out or created a seperation in some of the people chasing them so they can turn on them.

Their mobility and escapability basically allows them to play small group tactics without the group.

The answer to this is “no” if you are playing a thief, mesmer, or d/d elementalist when it comes to soloing.

The next question is: Does that really matter in the larger context of the game which is group-based?

That’s the question that should be debated. Anyone who is honest and intelligent knows that thieves, mesmers, and d/d elems are way ahead of the curve when it comes to 1vNs.

Here is a pretty insane extended 3way fight over a supply camp. I apologize for the crack about numbers. Just a little sign of frustration.

being a jerk is a God given right in this country, and I have every right to call him out. I understand stormwolf’s supposition, however, to assume that there are 40 people just roaming about, when the PACT had a strategy in place and there were at least 4 guilds in that borderlands, is an invalid argument. On reset night, there is no way that these guild have their afk’ers in there. There are commanders on that can handle a defense like that with half the numbers he had available. If he can’t arrange things to at least try to save both, then he has no business with the tag on.

He had Maguuma flowing into the garrison from one side and DR from the other with all supply being cutoff from both directions. I know there were some BP trying to retake supply camps so they could run back to garrison to maintain seige but we killed them.

You can’t maintain seige defense on the first night of a reset when you don’t have the supply camps. They had to push us out the hard way.

Not sure which server you are from but last night is the FIRST time I ever saw a huge group of people with different guild tags ignore and avoid chasing a smaller group and stick to their objective. And that occured more than once.

It’s typically easy to derail such a group and take advantage of the zerg mentality. That did not happen. Impressive discipline and communication for a mixed guild group.

Has the turnout for Maguuma increased since we’re in first? A few of us are doing a little experiment to see if more people show up when we’re winning. I saw there were 90+ people in mumble this morning at around 2am EST, I smiled.

Willing buy 90+ DR folks in coordinated Wv3!! From what i saw last night DR had like 9 folks in coordinated action and that was in PvE events. (ie: "Oh man the breakout event is bugged and wont spawn) (sad panda)

Until then you are NOT allowed such atrocious actions! You are to stop playing Wv3 for the rest of the week in contemplation on what you did wrong.

Aside from the huge breakdown in DR communication/teamwork on reset. Fun fights from both servers. Keep it up, DR’s been needing an eye opener for over 10 weeks and hopefully this week will be the one to force some changes.

I see this as more of a population issue. Every server is going to have people who kind of float around with no real objective in mind. IMO, DR needs a couple more large to midsize PvP-centric guilds to overcome the roadblock we are going to hit.

Good job hanging in there DR. We had the outmanned buff in both BPBL and MBL an hour or two into reset. Not a good sign.

Unfortunately, we also have a bunch of people who don’t know there are three ways out of the spawn point. They actin’ like they never been spawn camped before.

Now if you could just get on to posting the video you have of yourselves 1v4’ing me, and having trouble killing me by myself earlier in the night. I’m full glass cannon and it took 4 of you. Also the necro had less to do with your win all though it was a smart play. The fact that you had us bottle necked at the archway to spiritholme is what helped you win. It is the same way I beat 25 DR pugs with 6 other people a few nights ago.

Having line of sight and people rushing around a corner into a group of players waiting for them while they funnel in like unorganized groups so often do is not very impressive.

Some roaming action from AD & BSty. The BSty guys are amazing, IMO. Keep in mind that we aren’t on voice with them, but they pick up on everything and react so quickly.

All the bickering aside, AR and NSP have definitely given us the most fun we’ve had so far. And, that’s what it is all about.

Necro is flat out the worst since it’s 3 ability does nothing to help revive or keep someone from stomping you.

Engineer 3 should be moved to Engineer 2.

Really poor sarcasm, I’d say. A few weeks ago a guild with a name of something like Souls of the Shadow [SoS] was accused of cheating. Turns out it was actually some people who named themselves Shadows of the Soul [SoS] trying to ruin that guild’s reputation.

The guild names are just examples, I don’t remember the exact names.

That doesn’t seem to be the case in this particular situation. I was just giving a general example of why you should be careful before throwing accusations around.

I was just talking to people on mumble about this. I wasn’t there but it seems that there were some DR people exploiting there. AD just happened to be nearby. They were frapsed and screenshotted. Their guild leader was notified and a report will be sent to Anet.

You really need to be careful when throwing around accusations like this. We are very anti-exploit and just because someone is in the same vicinity as someone who is exploiting that doesn’t mean they are as well.

edit: On the whole exploiting thing. There are exploiters on every kitten server. And large guilds are more susceptable to being infiltrated by exploiters. How they deal with them is what is important.

Also, keep in mind that it has already been the case that some people make up a guild with the same tag and then exploit to tarnish the reputation of a guild they dislike. I don’t know if that is the case here (since again I was not there). You need to doublecheck the actual guildname. Guild tags can be spoofed.

The BSty crew is Korean, so I don’t know if they support the Ravens or Ray Lewis in any way, shape or form

LoL, not all of us are Korean about half of us are here in the states. The guild leader and officers are Korean which make up about half of our current ranks, which we only have about 5-6 active players right now. My friends and I are still unsure what [BSty]Baltimore Style stands for…. maybe we should ask considering we wear the tag.

I would like to say that we have had some great small group fights against [PAXA], [SPLT] and a few other small packs that run around… you know who you are and props to you all for making me a better player. Nothing like fighting skilled opponents to increase your pvp prowess.

I was thinking it was a play on words on Gangam Style but it might be best left a mystery.

Oozo it’s a shame you can’t post the video of the open field fight on the island just south of the sentry after those two you got. Not because of who won but because it was the first 5 v 5 fight I have had in gw2 (let alone past 6-7 years of mmos) that legitimately felt like 2 guild 8-mans hitting full speed after searching for each other. 5 minute fight, equal numbers, organized 5mans. Very very few pvpers have that mentality anymore thanks to Warfront designs and EZ button games Since Daoc.

Nice to know they are still out there as I mentioned earlier today.

Yeah, I actually had to stop so I could delete files from the HD I record to and Dave (who alternates playing a elementalist, engineer, warrior, thief, and necro – all 80) had to leave to get sleep for work.

I’d feel a lot better about it if I had a fight of you beating us recorded to make things more complete and I would have put it in. I take it that none of you record which is a bit unfair.

It looks like NSP will be fighting Darkhaven and AR next week or Kaining and HoD if you fall a teir. We haven’t fought Darkhaven, so no clue if you find groups to challenge you there. We have fought Kaineng and HoD (and barring transfers) I can tell you that those servers had zero groups that could challenge you for the types of fights you are looking for.

We’ll be moving up and facing Maguuma which has a good number of small squads that are pretty serious about small group play. If you happen to fall down a teir you might want to consider moving up. I don’t think you will find any challenges in T7 or T8.

The ability to push stomps out 5+ seconds combined with the batkitten rally system is just too much.

Yes, exactly. The disparity is the TIME it takes to successfully stomp someone and this has a huge impact on group fights.

I’d move rangers up with guardians, and engineers and give warriors their own teir above them. The daze, pet fear, and pet heal are pretty good. They are definitely better off than necromancers.

I’d put thief, elem, and mesmer in the same teir for an open field fight with no portal to run through. My list is:

1. elem, thief, mesmer
2. warrior
3. guardian, engineer, ranger
4. necromancer

Gaurdian downed state is a joke with the healing symbol. It’s way better than the ele downed state.

Guardian downed state 3 is very good. Elementalist downed state 3 is very bad. However a guardian rarely makes it to downed state three because they are stationary, visibile, and extremely vulnerable to a stability stomp.

Absolutely.

I was in two of our fights last night that we won and I think you won some after I retired for the night.

I mentioned before that, IMO, when two groups like ours collide there are factors that come into play even before you get into the gameplay aspect of the fight. The most important thing is numbers, obviously. Then you have the composition of the groups. Some profession compositions can be pretty hard counters to other compositions. And, then there is who gets the drop on who.

That first contact moment is huge, because if there is one thing a small group knows how to do it’s to take an advantage and run with it.

On the profession matchup, we were running with a couple of necros (which is rare for us, but hopefully becomes more common) that had a huge impact. There was a [Meow] guardian next to you that popped “Save Yourself!” really early in the fight. One of our necros almost immediately corrupted it and then spread it. It had an absolutely huge impact on that fight.

The other fight was a total ambush. I happened to notice you chasing us at clip range. All small groups will be panning for a 360 view when on the move. We pretended that we didn’t notice you and went down the ramp to LOS you and hid in a nook until you got close. I’m sure you’ve done the same thing to others. The TTK in this game can be absolutely insane when you catch people off-guard and it has pretty much nothing to do with skill.

Would you mind if I used some of this footage? I was serious before when I don’t typically like posting group versus group footage since some people will look at it and draw all the wrong conclusions not realizing that if the situations were reversed on first contact it would be us on the ground getting stomped instead of you.

I also kind of want to make this guy eat his words.

Maybe some of the people who are more familiar with the system can comment on this one. Does DR benefit more by having a bigger point spread versus NSP than against AR since NSP was the green server at one time. I think your rating also depends on past performance of the servers you are facing.

If so, it would make sense for DR to go after NSP more than AR. Correct me if I’m wrong (which I may very well be).

Of course I’ve run across some really solid rangers 1v1. I just don’t think they bring as much to a group fight when compared to some of the other classes. I feel the same way about my power necro.

D/D ele doesn’t do kitten in real fights. Real fights are all about guardians, warriors and mesmers.

Hrm, they bring control and healing and decent splash damage. Thieves really help with stomps and revives and, of course, damage. Mesmers are extremely helpful to a small group with their damage and utility. They also force the enemy to cycle through more targets which is very helpful for a small group. Guardians can be excellent for group support (boons, retaliation, stability), control, and damage.

These are the top 4 at the moment, IMO.

I’m guessing you watched like 2 or 3 of them and then made an analytical leap of saying thats all he does in his videos, lol. I think the main problem isn’t with us fighting zergs or harassing supply lines or uncoordinated players. Its the group of guild players that we often fight that double spam their dodge rolls, miss easy to make attacks, don’t utilize their class effectively, and don’t focus fire…that is the problem. BTW Kodiak whats your class and guild?

Also @ SoS. If you REALLY want to find us, just ask around in the borderlands. Shouldn’t be too hard to find us when we’re out and about. (Canadian translation: Oout and aboot)
