I have many trophies from completed or partially completed collections. They are taking over my bank space, but when I go to delete them I get prompted to put in my character’s name to confirm the deletion. Is there any reason I am unaware of that I would desire to keep these items? Can I delete trophies from uncompleted collections as well? When I go in to check how many items I have completed of a particular collection they show up as collected, so if I deleted the object from my bank would it delete it from my collections in my achievements? This is getting particularly important to know since I have leveled up some of my alts. I am getting their specialization trophies dropped while playing my main, even though I am not intending to take them to HoT any time soon.
Also, HoT will not be free. It will require purchasing the next expansion.
if this is true, then old players will feel betrayed again because they are subsidizing the cost for the new players. If Anet think the new expansion will be worth another $50 by itself, then it should be standalone, with the EXP #1 being free because its part of their “vision” to not block entry for newer players behind a paywall.
I do not think the free core game is subsidized by old players, I purchased HoT for 50 dollars, but when i was free to play I didn’t have access to the TP or gem store. Even when I upgraded I began at a serious disadvantage to those who had been playing the game all along. I had to catch up. The Living Season updates did not come with HoT, and there are masteries gated behind it. In order to get those masteries I had to buy them, you got those masteries for no additional charge.
I got a GTX 950 put on to my PC this morning. The difference boggles.
I posted before from my utter frustration because my specialization achievement was gated behind a mini game called Fallen Masks. I had already put in a couple of months of play designed to get that achievement. I had spent hours in Dragon Stand collecting crystallized ore, etc. , and then when I tried Fallen Masks I couldn’t get better than 13 masks, and I needed 15 to unlock Dark Harvest. I was so frustrated I almost uninstalled GW2 and quit for good. My son told me that this was probably due to my graphics and frames per second. He was right, within an hour of installing a brand new excellent graphics card I beat Fallen Masks. I am relating this for a reason, because even though I never have to play that annoying game again it is only because I bought a new graphics card. I do not think this is fair to people that have minimal specs to play this game. Before I downloaded this game I checked to see if my specs would play it, and according to anet they would. I understand having achievements like these for those who enjoy them, but core portions of the game shouldn’t be deprived to those who downloaded the game in good faith based upon being told that their PC could handle it. This wouldn’t be an issue if the achievement wasn’t timed, but it is timed, and it is setting up certain people (like me) to fail. And it isn’t because they suck (as I was told when I complained the first time), it is because their system is just a hair not good enough to really play this game.
I am writing this partially so that others that do a search out of their own frustration might come upon my comment and know it might not be them that is having the difficulty, it is their equipment. As it stands if I had to do it over again I might not have bought this game in the first place had I known how I would be limited by the parameters set up by anet. I would hope if one of the developers reads this that they can consider that people buy the game in good faith, if they are told that they can play it they should be able to play the core portions, and that means all of them, and not have their achievements gated behind an impossible mini game that they have no hope of beating. I tried every day for weeks, sometimes hours each day. It wasn’t my skill holding me back, so if others think that maybe they just suck at these things, it might not be them at all, but the bad information they got when they downloaded this game, their system might be inadequate to play it.
I bought Phoenix Armor. I just tried double clicking instead of the “use” button on the head skin and it automatically transmuted without a charge. I had the transmutation charges, so no biggie, but I will keep them in case I use them on my mesmer.
It didn’t give me a free application
I just bought my first Black Lion armor. It is stored in my wardrobe but when I went to destroy the items in my bag inventory it had me confirm I was deleting them by typing the name of the item in a dialogue box. Can I safely delete the icons of the items in my bag without deleting them in my wardrobe? I can’t think of one advantage for keeping them in my bag or bank slots.

Here is what Anet should do, because they already dug this hole. First, have each minigame become permanently unlocked by completing the nearby meta achieve for completion. This will allow players to choose when they play this non-MMO content. Second, change the gating for the collections that require minigames… probably by adding an alternative way of completing that part of the collection. Third, omit all minigames from future maps and expansions. The only minigame in GW2 should be SAB because that is an MMO within an MMO.
- requires PvP reward potions for upgrades that have nothing to do with PvP
I agree with your entire comment, but I am quoting this because it seems a very fair compromise. You won’t catch me complaining about PvE content, even PvE content that I don’t prefer, because even if I don’t like it I should only have to do it once. If I like it I will come back. I repeat lots of content that I like. If I liked mini games I would play the games on facebook, many of them free of charge. I have angry birds on my phone if I want to play a mini game. All I can think of when I am playing these things is how I have to run around doing the same thing wasting my life one click at a time, no guarantee I will ever finish it.
And it isn’t the same as complaining about the cost of crafting a legendary. Crafting a legendary is self explanatory, crafting something “legendary” should be expensive and/or time consuming. If you don’t like that sort of activity, don’t do it. I love crafting and gathering and looking for items I need. But if I didn’t enjoy that I wouldn’t do it. This isn’t about the “skin” of the greatsword, it is about collecting things for a greatsword that goes with a character I love and I happen to be pretty good at playing her and I have mastered her mechanics.

I’m honestly confused as to how you didn’t know that it was a requirement prior to starting. Doesn’t it tell you what every requirement is on the collectibles tab? If it doesn’t, a simple google search for GW2 + Dark Harvest yields exactly what is needed to complete the sword.
That’s like starting to craft a legendary, getting to the end and saying “Wait, I need a precursor to finish my legendary? What the heck!”
Almost every unique item in every MMO is gated behind something. Otherwise you would go to a merchant and buy it. Either it will be gated behind a specific dungeon, or specific boss, or specific achievement, or specific crafting recipe, or really anything. I don’t really see anything out of the ordinary here. GW2 just has a “scavenger” hunt system to get items.
All content that people can have others help them with. This content you can receive no help. I see this as a crucial difference.

I certainly would not risk having my account permanently terminated by allowing someone else to use it. No skin/gear is worth that…to me.
Of course, the choice is yours. /shrug
Did you skip the part where I said I would probably end up quitting the game if it came to it? This game isn’t fun anymore all of a sudden.

Anyhow, now that my rant is over and my mutual agreement and feelings of sympathy with what you describe, have been expressed, If I can permit to give you some advice…..it’s a method that worked for me (and I admit I did nt expect it to work after 3 days)
Don’t try this adventure more than 3 times per day on average ….if you can’t make it on the first, try a second time, if you do better try a third, and maybe if it felt really close once again. If however your second try is worse than the first, just stop for the day.
Try doing this everyday, it does not take long, and keeps your frustration levels at a minimum. I am pretty sure, sooner or later, you will manage this just due to sheer muscle memory effect, since you will notice that, even if seemingly random, the patterns are very similar and often repeat themselves.
Best of luck and don’t lose hope
I will try this. When I start getting to the point that I have muscle memory I will only try it a few times and then walk away, but I need the muscle memory and that takes repetition
I will say the last straw for me was the interruption. I decided to do this thing for as long as I could stomach it, let my mind wander while I did it, and then come back in a few days and try it again and again and again until I somehow memorized the pattern and had one of the easier patterns come up, hoping that my body would remember. It is pretty hard to do that when you get interrupted to do a meta. I love Dragon Stand,, but something about Auric Basin is a real turn off for me. I don’t like the way the meta is organized as well. But as was mentioned, I can go afk for it, and I think I will go up and hit one of the monsters, get bronze and go back down and try more.
The really galling thing is that there hasn’t been one personal story I needed help with. I am always willing help others even though I solo most of the content, but the one time I need help and I can’t have any.

it’d be unreasonable if it was the only way of getting an ascended greatsword.
i personally found it quite fun.
I have an ascended greatsword. Tell me, what does flying around gathering objects have to do with being a Reaper, which that is what Bitter Harvest is, a Reaper’s Greatsword, with the title of Reaper. It has nothing to do with the exalted (characters that are a turn off for me). Those other achievements give you things related to them, like Winter’s Presence, etc. Achieving the top achievement of my profession has nothing to do with that adventure, nothing.

The core game isn’t like this.
For the optionals, yes it is. There have only been a few cases in the past however where, like adventures, a group couldn’t carry you (SAB and the gauntlet).
Silver on all but a few is easy enough that I’d expect it shouldn’t be a problem for the average player. As an alternative however, they could count attempts based on completing the objectives, which in this case would be something like 300 masks.
If you want to cheat, you don’t need to compromise your account information. If you have a decent connection, you can stream it and allow someone else to take the controls, though they’ll have to deal with a higher latency.
As for the meta event, simply AFK through it.
So if I can’t do a timed jumping event I am a below average player??? Snarky much? I don’t have a graphics card and that impacts this content and how I do it. It is why I don’t attempt it, because sometimes I miss landing in exactly the right place because of the frames per second that my computer processes. And as I explained, lots of people are having other players complete this task for them.

This happened to me tonight. I have two activities to do before I can get Bitter Harvest, my Reaper Greatsword. One of them is a timed jumping mini game called Fallen Masks. I am lousy at these games. I avoid them. If I had known this was in my future I would never have tried to get Bitter Harvest. I have worked for months. Basically, if I was good at this game I could do it lickety split and not have to “volunteer” for another activity I dislike, the Auric Basin meta. And btw, if you demand someone do something in exchange for something else, that isn’t “volunteering”, that is hostage taking. My greatsword is being held hostage behind so many gates I can’t get past them all. I am beyond upset.
I belong to another all female guild wars 2 group and asked them about what I should do to finish Fallen Masks, because I had tried and tried to do it, and I keep failing. The advice I got, have one of my guildies log into my account and complete it for me, several people replied that they had done just that. So maybe anet thinks that this activity isn’t so bad because so many people are doing it, but they aren’t doing it, many players are doing it for other players. So basically I am faced with a choice, give up playing this game or compromise my online security by having someone I don’t really know log into my account and do this activity. I can’t continue on with this undone, it has me so mad after the attempt to force me to play a meta. I don’t do force very well. The expansion is so different from the original game, it is so sad. Every time I turn around the game is being designed to corral players into content they don’t want to take part in. The core game isn’t like this.

Right about 5 mins before DS start. You go to LFG and searched for taxiing for DS. Personally, I avoided Dragon Stand on the weekend. The amount of failed Dragon Stand is amazing. Everyone seems to do their own things instead of following the commander tag.
Thanks for LFG info. I have actually never used it as I don’t do group content without a guild and solo what I can. Think I could solo Dragon Stand? That would be like amazing. I’d have to have some sort of super mastery level to accomplish that… ha ha
Do you mean meta builds or meta events?
Meta is a prefix, it doesn’t really mean anything on its own and in this case I certainly can’t work out what you mean from the context.
That is why the forum could be called “Meta Events” instead of just “meta”
I just wasted an hour of my life trying to party up in Dragon Stand. I was in a full party, and when the map cleared and I tried to go to the map that everyone was on it was full. So, basically I don’t get to do Dragon Stand today because if we don’t get to the first prime time map it is a bust, no one is playing it otherwise. Basically Dragon Stand is a weekend map if we want to have a moderately successful chance at playing it. If it were like triple trouble, and just one boss it wouldn’t be a big deal, but our progression to gaining masteries is tied to Dragon Stand, particularly if we want to get to the merchant that spawns after the dragon is defeated.
Is it that much to ask that we have some sort of reliable way of getting to playable maps where other people are? I am rather new to this game, so perhaps there is a way to easily change instances that I am unaware of, because I just tried to guest in two different worlds and both were empty. Now I am completely out of ideas.
I am not a complainer, but all 6 people that ended up with me in the overflow map were just as frustrated and had their lives wasted too, and I am sure this is a common daily occurrence. Every day I haunt Dragon Stand on the off chance I might be able to play it, and I get a glorious chance to and I am completely deprived. It is disheartening. Please fix this.
I am a PvE player, so I can only speak to that. I find minions very useful in the open world while I gather materials. They distract foes. I especially like the flesh golem and bone minions. The bone minions are nice little bombs that can be useful for range damage. The only thing I use all shouts for is the world boss circuit. Minions can be slow and some world bosses die fairly quickly. I prefer the shout when I am close and I need to do quick damage. No need to wait for the minion to attack.
I am so glad I asked. I didn’t realize that the numbers on the runes went with the number of them that you needed.
I will have completely finished crafting my ascended armor in a couple of days and I was hoping to have upgrades thought out before my armor was done. I am a little closer, but there are still some concepts that I find perplexing, one of these concepts is stacking. I was thinking about just going strength runes, pretty straight forward, and it appears that would stack, but I thought about mixing my runes. Maybe going for speed, strength and also adding Reaper runes (I am a necomancer). Would the chill effect stack for me as a Reaper? Is there a cap on that?
They may not be inviting you over and over again. What has happened is that you hit “ignore” thinking it will go away. You have to open your guild panel and dismiss the invitation. The guild did nothing wrong,
Thanks Danikat! The biggest question was why all the big deal about deleting an object that isn’t seemingly particularly useful. I am leveling up a new mesmer, I never considered having her eat the tomes, duh! I will check out those scraps. It seems like I am tripping over stuff I have no idea of why I am keeping.
Thanks for the tip based on painful experience. Not a devastating amount of karma lost, but still annoying.
I’ve gotten two ascended weapons from doing Tequatl every day. He drops a ton of karma and loot each and every day, and he is pretty fun to slay as well.
Have you worked on your HoT personal story? You get an ascended amulet called the Moon and Stars upon completion. I think you get a few laurels as well.
I have been playing this game since September and I have bought 2 bank expansions. My bank space is getting pretty tight. I am wondering if holding on to certain items is worth it, particularly when it asks me to put my account name in to delete it. Examples include “5 books of mentorship” that I received when I got map completion. I was already level 80, and they won’t let me eat them for spirit shards, they are also nontransferable (I tried to mentor someone just to get rid of them). The next example is the rare novice backpack that I received . I no longer wear it, I have the skin, but it asks me if I really want to delete it by entering my account name. If these things have a purpose larger than I know I’m not seeing it.
Next, I have 5 map scraps, and no completed map. Is the loot from this good enough to take up 5 entire slots? Also, keys that go to chests in twilight harbor, is the loot a good enough incentive to take up two slots when I don’t know if I will ever go to a dungeon outside of story mode? No one does dungeons anymore, and I won’t try to pug them ever again. Mind you, I am level 40 in HoT, I have started fractals, and I farm wood, so I am not short on gold, and I know what good loot looks like. How good loot is all depends on the types of loot you are already getting, so if it is just a bunch of masterwork stuff I am happy to just delete these things
If anyone knows the answers to these questions I would be beholden if you’d clue me in on the worth of these things.

I am new to this game. I picked this class because it looked like it would be fun to pay. I do not have any baggage towards this class such as you described others having (perhaps including yourself?). I will grant you, before I got elite specializations I was slow, took a long time to kill things, and that was okay with me because I am into exploration, crafting, and events, etc. I do not care if I ever am competitive with other classes, I don’t care about the meta, I don’t care about elitism and dungeons, or PvP. This is just my view on things, if people didn’t want to play with me because of a reputation a certain class has, even though the expansion shifted things quite a bit in this game, I just wouldn’t give a kitten. I haven’t had a problem finding people to play with.
My guild is into raids. I have never played a raid, and I am just starting fractals. I began the game in September. Basically it sounds like I need to get a different karma set and play it around for awhile and see what feels good. I think a trip to HoT in the most challenging parts of the game in full Berserker is in order to see how easily I go down.
I really like the idea of spreading conditions around for a team, but I don’t want to design an ascended set just for that.
When it comes to expense I can afford to make the armor that I want, the only thing holding me back is time gates and knowledge, and it looks like I have plenty to think about. Thanks everyone, I am going to go read more and play more and make more spools of silk weaving thread while I make up my mind.
Sure, it would be nice if they gave us a visual of what was going on in our specializations while we were in shroud, but the reason we probably won’t get that is that it would be a big advantage. They have to make each class have strengths, but if those strengths become too massive everyone will be playing necro. Personally, I don’t want everyone to play necro. I like the diversity in the game.
My biggest complaint is how slow we are. It is annoying. I am willing to put up with being slow to get all the great attributes that we have. Sure, once in a while you can misjudge the cooldown time and pop out of shroud too soon and die. If your HP is that low you probably would have died either way, because otherwise you could dodge for a second or two and you could deploy whatever it is you were needing. The longer I play necro the more I have a feeling for when it is safe to pop out of shroud. I am not perfect every time, but I think one day it will be really rare to misjudge because practice increases skill.
I have been working on getting my ascended armor crafted and I actually have everything sitting in the bank to craft my chestpiece as I type this. I even have an ascended insignia with selectable stat choices from a drop, so actually I could craft two pieces right now, but I have a problem, I can’t seem to decide what to craft. I bought Aurora Rampager with Balthazar runes armor before I I had heard about meta zerk. I gravitated towards condition builds, power being secondary to toughness and condition. Basically I dislike dying and I leveled solo, so I didn’t have anyone pushing me to do anything else.
I went today and bought myself a second set of Aurora, this time with Berserker. I already invested in ascended berserker trinkets so I could do fractals with a team. I like the speed of all that power. I feel like I am cutting through enemies like a hot knife through butter comparatively speaking, but I have to watch my health much more closely. I am not going down, but I have yet to go to HoT wearing it.
So the gist of this is, what sort of armor is a nice compromise between full on glass cannon and something that only gives condi damage? Has anyone went hybrid with ascended? I know I can change the stats on the gear if I need to, but I didn’t want to have to do that so soon after I make it. It just seems a much bigger commitment than karma armor, and I want to get it right.
So many people complain about necro’s DPS. I have a question for those who claim others do more damage per second than we do, how much time do these damage dealers spend on the ground waiting to be res’d? How much time do they spend dodging and not doing any damage at all? Probably a good amount of time. I got to level 80 without becoming an effective dodger. Why? Because I so rarely had to dodge anything as a condi Reaper that it wasn’t a skill that I had to acquire. Now that I am doing HoT (many times solo) I have had to become effective at dodging. If you are laying there in a heap, you aren’t defeating any boss.
I am just starting to play on teams within a guild. I am a very new player. I decided to take everything I heard with a grain of salt and experience things for myself because I don’t care if others decide they don’t want to play with me, I would probably get tired of scraping those people up off the floor because they are glass cannons that constantly get shattered. I experience these people all the time when I am wandering around the open world. I like res’ing people. I like helping people, so I am not saying this with a feeling of superiority – but I rarely ever need anyone to fix me, but I am constantly fixing others.
If a guild expected me to explain any of my gearing choices or my class choices to them, I wouldn’t be in that guild. We are all different in that regard, but the guild didn’t buy my game, they don’t pay my ISP bill, and I spend entirely too many hours playing to have a group dictate to me, your mileage may vary.
Thanks, I guess I will just destroy this insignia, I appreciate the info
Since the addition of Reaper attitudes have changed quite a bit towards necros. I am not saying that there aren’t some people that do not want necros, but I don’t have much of a problem finding people to play with. It depends on what your aims are. If all you want to do is raid and dungeons there might be a better class. But if the only reason that you do not want to play necro is that you think no one is going to want you, I have seen people who run dungeons talking about an entire team of necros because of their condition builds are versatile and tanky to some degree.
It turned out necro was really the right fit for me. The new skills make us really hard to kill and there are several ways where we can lend support to other players by sharing our health reserves with our groups. I like PvE, and I am just starting dungeons and fractals, so I am definitely not an expert in what people that do them are thinking about necros.
I had a Minstrel’s Gossamer Insignia drop for me and I am considering whether or not it is worth it to craft it. I have had the experience of crafting other items that I could not sell, so I am asking from the perspective of once bitten twice shy, if I craft a piece of armor with these stats can I sell it? I looked in BLS to price it and there was no Minstrel’s Exalted Armor to be found there, just the recipes. I am fairly new to the game, so I am under the impression that Minstrel is a stat set that came with HoT expansion, perhaps it is so new that it really isn’t out there yet? I have no interest in wearing it. I have armor I like and I am not making anything to wear until i craft my ascended armor.
The pros to buying it:
New elite skills for your toons, new gear that matches your toon’s profession, the ability to craft precursors if you want a legendary weapon, the glider is a great addition, and improvements in how characters communicate with NPCs ( I like that).
The cons: This expansion is so trying for me to play solo I have joined two guilds. I would have kept going on solo but the map completion reward is an even better weapon for my necro, and by “gear” I hope they mean the Reaper armor that they showed in the previews to HoT. On the brightside, the new elite skills and weaponry as enabled me to get more out of old maps because it is easier to solo those with my new elite skills. In Orr I am soloing champions and winning (my girl is a condition build). Without the elite specializations it would not be worth it because the new maps are hard to play alone and I like playing alone. I like the guilds that I joined as well, but it wasn’t my agenda to join them, that was what anet pushed me into, and I wish HoT would be more solo-friendly.
It may seem to slow you down, but having to deal with wildlife biting at you every few feet is even more annoying. I found having minions launched when I was exploring the world made my life abundantly monster-free for the most part. If you are actually moving the minions usually move too. It is only when you are standing in one place that they have the opportunity to pick a fight for you. Also, you can explode bone minions like bombs if they become a problem, and I think that deals 145 damage, 2x, that is nearly 300.
“Rise!” in particular can make you nigh unstoppable when fighting enough enemies.”
I was in Orr and picked a fight with the Giant Champion – the one that throws out worms by the billion, and another necro joined me – we killed it with just two of us. It took what seemed forever, but eventually he ran out of worms and we kicked his hiney.
I like the greatsword I will get when complete the map. That is the only reason I still go to those maps
Maybe there could be a time travelling story, or some future vision crystal where we could have instances of a fully restored Orr, maybe an alternative universe in Metrica Province where they ripped the fabric of reality to where you could slip through the rift and see Orr as if it had never fallen? That might be interesting.
I feel like doing the meta events in Verdant Brink night after night after night to be not only grindy, but maddening because not enough people play it to make the events successful". I am already tired of getting supplies to rally points, following NPCs around while they do whatever it is that they do, and hoping there will be enough players on the map to get a decent reward and XP for the meta event. Forget going to Auric Basin or the Tangled Depths. The groups there planned their play and they aren’t willing to adopt a solo player that doesn’t know the maps well, and is even struggling to get places because of the mastery system. Ask yourself this, if HoT expansion is so much fun why are all the vets killing the world bosses while the events in the expansion don’t have enough players to get things done? I quit going. I show up on the new maps and they are ghost towns. That wouldn’t be so bad if you could solo them, but you really cant.
As a new player to this game when I first went to fight The Shatterer I was called an idiot for using blind on that boss. I had to look up why people were so mad about that. I get being frustrated, but calling someone an idiot for attempting to get a reward for killing a boss isn’t okay, maybe that didn’t happen in this case, but it is happening. It happened to me. I have map chat turned off, so I only saw the bubbles. Perhaps those people who are trolling you are some of the same people that have been bullied in the past. I wouldn’t do that because I am an adult and I wouldn’t have a bad attitude towards some players just because others had been unnecessarily rude and unkind, but after that I don’t feel bad if I accidentally hit my blind button out of habit, either. As a Reaper “Nightfall” is one of my fav skills to use.
I have only been playing GW2 for a couple of months, I checked the forums for this topic and I didn’t find anything in the topic history. And if I am misunderstanding the crafting system I welcome someone to set me straight.
I love crafting usable items. I used to play another MMO that had an interesting crafting system and I was looking forward to crafting on GW2 when I bought the game. I get the fact that lower level items do not create profit in the crafting system, and that most of the crafting system is an expensive useless proposition in order to be able to craft ascended gear and weapons. I have an idea that would make the crafting system a little more useful and fun, create interest in crafting just for the fun of doing it. It would be great if we had unique armor skins that could be discovered through the crafting process like we do for weapons. I really liked the leveling equipment that I made while topping off artificing. I like that it can be used for alts when I start leveling up new characters.
I know that anet makes money on selling armor skins through the gem store, and that adding unique skins that can only be made through crafting might seem like competition for the gem store, but I don’t think that would be necessarily true. People that do not like to craft won’t take it up just to make armor skins, and even if they did many of them would buy the gold to get the ingredients to make them. By having nice unique skins that are account bound, just like the leveling weapons that we can make, it adds a bit of prestige to crafting. It can also be an achievement to unlock all of the unique skins in all of the different armor classes.
The pretty backpacks are nice, I have two of them and I have only been playing since September. My first craft I had a little help from my credit card because I was impatient to top that off, and I don’t think I am alone in being willing to pull out my credit card to buy mats to craft. Perhaps more people would be willing to buy gems to craft if they saw shinies in it for their character. Just an idea
