It wasn’t gone for 2 years because it was ‘broken’ and Anet was unable or unwilling to fix it.
They deliberately removed it from the game, the same way they remove Wintersday and Halloween content each year and decided not to bring it back (at the time they said it didn’t fit into the story and they wanted to focus on the story over random extras).
Now they have decided to bring it back and said it will be a reoccurring festival (which they never said before, it was originally going to be a one-off joke) there’s no reason to think it won’t come back each year.
I haven’t even played this game for a year yet, I had no idea that they removed the holiday festivals for that reason. I hope they don’t do that with Halloween ever again. That is the best festival I have seen from them, I would be seriously bummed if they didn’t do it every year
Have you considered necromancer? I main a necromancer and it is much more complex to play masterfully than you’d think. There is minion management to consider, as well as how to time your death/reaper shroud so it will not run out at an inopportune time, as well as stun breakers, condition utilities, just a very versatile profession. You can tank with a reaper if you play with another person. It is the most solo friendly class there is, high survivability built into it.
I have a revenant and a mesmer at level 80, and the mesmer is fun for farming, but she is a bit too squishy for solo play (at least mine is). I like my rev as well, but I made him as a possible raiding alt. I am just starting to level a ranger and I actually like her a lot, for the same reasons I like necromancer, I like pets and minions. It adds complexity and dimension to my play. She won’t replace my reaper, but she is definitely lots more run than I thought she’d be
rush it all u can, theres no guarantee it wont be broken next year…
why would it be broken?
New systems get implemented or old ones get reworked, the same reason its been gone for two years previously
Considering how well loved it is (I don’t get that, but hey, not all of us enjoy the same thing) you’d think that they’d make sure that it worked with whatever coding that they do, in other words, have someone test it with any new systems.
I have worked actively to get my luck boosted up. I started the game in September and my magic find/luck is at 155. I use magic find boosting utilities, food, game boosts and guild boosts when I can get them. Magic find is account bound. In other words, you are as lucky on your level 3 as you are on your level 80. The difference I have seen when it comes to loot is based on the map you are farming, but as far as bags are concerned, not much of a difference. The largest difference I have seen comes from salvaging items on a low level character v a high level character. I do not know if lower level armor and weapons drop for lower level toons more readily than higher level ones, but I have noticed that my salvage on lower level characters gets lower tier materials. This is a good thing because if you craft then you know these materials are pretty hard to come by any other way than be leveling alts. It isn’t just the maps that change, it is the salvage as well. I could be wrong about that, but I don’t think I am.
I had no idea that The Bard was so inexpensive to buy. Thanks for your thread about how “bad” this precursor is, because it might be my second legendary after I finish Nevermore. I have always admired pretty foci
“this instance is not a part of your personal story and your progress will not be saved”,
So? I might be completely wrong about this, but that should not affect you ability to get achievements from it. You will just not progress in the PS
I hope you’re right, it is worth a try.
I am currently trying to get my achievements/masteries for Living Story and I am and I am having a problem. When I do a few of the achievements, but miss one, I have to start that entire section over again. Example: Zephyrs Ascent and Leap, I kept looking for Margery to throw me zephyrite crystals so I could start the jumping puzzle but I couldn’t figure out where to start it and that portion of the story ended. When I went and tried to start that portion over again it said “this instance is not a part of your personal story and your progress will not be saved”, the only way I could restart that portion of the story was to go all the way back to the beginning. Is this the way it is supposed to be? That is extremely daunting and grindy if so. I don’t think I have enough patience to do this if that is the case. I probably won’t be purchasing any future stories, either, as I only purchased this for the achievements.
I think I solved my issue, I ended that chapter by accident before I got the last piece of equipment, which means I have to start the entire story over again to get it, wow, what a grindy experience, sorry about the post.
Perhaps it is user error, but when I try to replay Gates of Maguuma LW2 – Tracking the Master of Peace tells me it is not my story instance and my progress will not be saved in the chat/dialogue box. I destroyed all the inquest equipment and it didn’t give me the achievement and that was when I noticed it. I logged out and relogged back into the story instance and as soon as I did it gave me the same error message. I am doing this solo, so it isn’t a case of my being a part of a party.
This went through my mind today
First they came for the dungeons, but I didn’t say anything because I don’t play dungeons
Then they came for world v world and still I said nothing because I didn’t play world v world
Then they came for player v player and still I said nothing because I didn’t play player v player
and then they came for legendaries and I said nothing because I don’t want a legendary
And when they came for my content, there was no one left to stand up for me.
As much as I disagree with the development direction GW2’s taken in the recent past, I’d hardly compare it to the Holocaust.
I wasn’t comparing it to the holocaust. It is the concept that people on this thread that are actually happy that those of us that have invested 100s of hours into gameplay that will not be connected to HoT would be just as outraged if Living World was “indefinitely suspended” and the team that works on it sent to complete legendary weapons. Many people are just fine with other people being hurt as long as it isn’t them, in fact, even supporting the harm to other players. And yes, people that bought and paid for this game and invested so much time have been harmed by this decision. It galls me and angers me that so many in this community are actually applauding this.
I have made all the mats pre made and ready too and it saddens me that I wasted all my time and energy and some gold. Is there going to be a way to break down the items to get back the mats since now they are account bound items and useless.

Crystalline IngotsI would contact support and see if they’ll send you the components of those items in exchange for you deleting them. It’s worth a try.
I had some sort of intuition not to make my ore into ingots “just in case”, I have all the components banked and uncrafted until they are needed. I have all the ore to make the ingots, I played dragon stand every day for months, sometimes without getting one ore because it failed. My disappointment is extremely deep. Nevermore was to be my first weapon, and then I was going to make others that were nontradeable. I don’t see a reason to make nevermore even though I have almost all the components banked and halfway through the journey. I don’t feel like playing this game anymore.
So… You wanted Nevermore, but now you don’t want it anymore because they won’t release legendaries you have never seen? I fail to understand the reasoning.
I didn’t want just nevermore. Nevermore was the FIRST of what I considered a long term goal of making several legendaries. You are aware that the cost of the first is the greatest in both terms of content completion (masteries and maps) and other inputs that only have to be bought the first time you craft one. I bought this game in October on the premise that the type of content I was thrilled about would be there. The entire reason I invested was to craft. I invested in extra bank space, as well. It isn’t about one skin, it is about the entire process. Your lack of understanding shouldn’t be surprising. It would be like me saying “well you got one story, what the heck do you need another one for”
The worst part of Legendaries being put on the shelf? You’ll probably be forced to buy multiple expansions down the road to have access to the ones HoT was supposed to give. Pay again and again and again.
I am not buying another expansion from this company as long as they owe me work for the old expansion. Until they pony up 12 more legendary weapons they won’t see anymore of my money. There is a small part of me that is hoping they understand that this move is going to fubar any future expansion plan, but one thing that life has shown me, people have a powerful ability to stay in denial.

Not at all. I’m just saying you sound like a kid breaking his toys because he can’t have a new one. Really.
If you like Nevermore, why wouldn’t you craft it? If you don’t like Nevermore, why would you craft it?
I understand people are kittened because they won’t get the legendaries they were promised, but how does it relate to how you view the current legendaries? I love Nevermore for instance, as much as I hate Quip. And rationally, the fact we won’t get new leggies can’t change that.
I logged in today and I just feel like there is no point in playing this game anymore. The reason I bought it was trashed. it has poisoned the experience for me. I actually worked on my collection today after I posted this, I have gotten all the mats for volume 2 collected, and much of the rest of it for that matter… just have to do the time gates. I just don’t see a future in this game anymore. Anet’s announcement tells me that their direction is leading away from the things I bought the game to do. Why waste one more moment on it if that is the case? I am not one of those players that does the world boss chain to show off my shinies. I don’t get off on fashion wars, I just like challenges.

to all the people that want a refund, at the start of HoT some people asked for a refund and they got one, but your account gets suspended and you can never use it again.
Considering how I felt today when I was playing I don’t think I’d care. I haven’t completely made up my mind, but I just had the most sucky experience playing today. I wonder what will they cut out next? They already took my primary motivation to play their game and flushed it, so I suppose there isn’t anything worse that they could do, but I don’t have any faith in any aspect of their product because it is obvious they fail to take pride in it anymore. If I worked there and Amazon offered me a job, I’d have taken it too. Actually, I wonder what Amazon is working on? Maybe they’ll have a new home for me. A game that respects crafting is a must for me, and this game fairly much just announced they were divesting their interest in creating crafting content. I am actively looking for a new game to invest my time in. I put in over 1500 hours since September because I wanted to make legendary weapons. I will never get that time back. I feel like they just wasted a few months of my life.
Mike, did you consider just including the weapons (the recipe for the skins per se) in the game and postponing the journey to acquire them for later dates?
As many other users already pointed out, I believe most people are mostly interested in the prestige of the skins than the journey itself, even though the latter would make the acquisition more accessible, people would take it easier as we would only have to wait more for the story wise part of the weapon, and not the item.
I would be ok to wait longer for an easier path rather than waiting for the whole thing, I believe the possibility of acquisition is more important than the means to get it. Half a promise is better than no promise fulfilled whatsoever.
How many times must those of us who craft these things tell you, our motivations are not entirely (or in my case especially) about shinies, it IS about the journey, accomplishing a goal, creating something difficult. Why do you do whatever it is you enjoy? Seriously, so presumptuous to claim you understand what motivates another person.
I think a more fitting poll would have been….. Do you like when Anet keeps their promises? or do you like when Anet breaks their promises?
A fitting poll would be “How would you feel if the part of the game you like was put indefinitely on hold to give other players what they wanted EARLY”
So I made a poll, and it seems that most of the populace likes this decision of shifting to Living World content, they just don’t like the lack of promises being kept or the rushed content releases.
Because nothing says ‘community’ like “I got mine, so up yours.” Your poll is egregiously insensitive to the hours upon hours of grind that people have already put forward for something that they have zero idea of when they will get. I even bought bank expansions to house the stuff I was collecting for amalgamated gems. Unbelievable.
I bought this game in September to craft legendaries. I even bought LS2 so I could fill out the masteries for legendaries. Every thing I have done in this game has been about that. I feel deceived and ripped off. But you know what is more disturbing? Anet apparently thinks it is a good idea to pit one group of players (those who want more living season more quickly) against another group of players (crafters). So much for “community building”. I cannot for the life of me see any other reason to couch this in the terms that anet has. “We had to pull people off legendaries to make living season because more players want that.” So basically treating crafters like we are an unpopular afterthought when in actuality the economy fairly much exists because of us and our grind for mats to craft. And they are counting on the majority of players not giving a rat’s backside about our issues. All those lost hours of map completion for Gifts i will never use – or at least not this year, or probably next, either. Shame on you anet. Divide and conquer… shame shame shame
You do realize that game development companies are often Heavily compartmentalized? There is a high chance that those involved in the forums do not have access to all the details on specific subjects. That is why there is often no response or just a vague and general one, and why we often see Dev updates outside of the official channels on sites like reddit. Those who are assigned to respond on forums do not want to give misinformation about a subject and those who are in the know share outside of official forums.
Is it a perfect System? Far from it. But minimal to no Communication doesn’t necessarily mean the matter isn’t being worked in.
As I stated before, things sometimes take time and I would rather a bug be fixed right than to have a ‘fix’ break something else.
That is really unacceptable. Those of us that are complaining about this bug are not free to play, we are the type of players that pay the bills at anet. We are the reason that they have a gem store, we support what they develop for the entire gaming community, some of them that don’t pay. You are excusing bad business practices. Please don’t tell me that the pee I feel running down my back is rain, because I tootin’ know well what the difference is. I don’t read reddit. Why should I have to read reddit because I purchased a game from anet? If there is something wrong with their product they need to communicate to the players through their website, not by commenting in places that some of us will never see. It is disrespectful to us.
I am standing by what I wrote earlier, anet gets zero more of my real world dollars until they address this in some way. It is sad that the bar is so low we can’t even expect an apology. The one communication on this thread was SNARKY, as if we did something wrong by expecting someone to address our problem with their product. I well know that I will probably never get an apology for all of the time that they wasted, as if my time is free, so that means I won’t spend another friggin’ dime here. If I make any purchases it will be with game gold. I am positive I am not the only person that feels this way, something that they teach you in basic business – only a small percentage of people complain when something is wrong with your service or product. The rest just pack up their marbles and go somewhere else. What you see commenting here is the tip of the iceberg.
PLease Note ANet Unable to Refund diamonds Even if instance is bugged.
LOL Holy kitten this is unbelievable.
I am not spending another dime on any gem store items until they make this right with me, that means some sort of gem store merch or partial refund of the gems I spent on this content. And I spend real money in their gem store monthly since I bought this game, not going to do it anymore. I am not supporting an organization that doesn’t respect me.
I am using Ossa’s (Crusader with 4 stats), and I can tank fairly effectly, I also echo Beserker stats on trinkets and weapons.
I don’t think this person has ever played a necro, to think that we don’t worry about timing is an extremely ignorant comment. Timing is EVERYTHING to a necro. Without good timing you aren’t going to get good benefits from the class. Necros are good at many things, but only really great at one – high survivability, but without great timing you only get moderate survivability. I’ve put over 1500 hours in on my necro and I am still learning how to optimize her. If this is a trolling comment to try to build consensus that necro is OP, anet said they like the way necros are performing and if anything they are going to add healing while in reapershroud. Anet isn’t ignorant about the skillset of their classes. They know what each is capable of, and they know that necro isn’t the most powerful class they’ve developed.
The funny thing is that I’ve been reading the revenant forum because I recently leveled one up for possible raiding and they get the same type of criticism. Part of me thinks that the game was so imbalanced in favor of warriors and guardians for so long that there are people that have those characters that do not like more balance in the game. It isn’t that the other professions are op, it is that they aren’t grossly underpowered anymore.
You can’t change it with transmutation charges. You put it in the mystic forge with a new insignia with the stats you want. Cheaper than another set, but not cheap
I am nearly finished with this title. I have 5 pieces left for tier 3 char and 4 pieces left to get for tier 3 sylvari.
I made a char character just for this purpose, they are level 2 hahaha. I just bought heavy armor in tier 1, tier 2 and only started on tier 3. I have done this with all races, but only ever purchased one ‘type’ pertaining to the character I am using to purchase it with, as I am only unlocking the skin while wanting the title, I sell the item back to the merchant. But I still need to make just over another 100g to finish it off, and when I do I will delete my char because I never liked them LOL
I didn’t dislike Norn until I played one, they just aren’t for me. I didn’t expect to like Charr, either, but I absolutely adore my male Charr rev. I now say I am a male Charr stuck in a human female body ..lol. He isn’t my main because he isn’t tanky enough for me, but I love him and I would definitely take him raiding! I do not care much for Sylvari, but I might change my mind after I level one up for the achievements. That is my next character. I am leveling up the ones I don’t want to keep for the fashion and racial story achievements and then deleting them. I just don’t want to have to level a norn twice because I didn’t buy the armor the way it was supposed to be bought. Thanks for your input
If this problem persists can I get a gem refund for my unused portion of LS? I could spend those gems for things that worked and maybe in a month or two when they figure it out I can buy the last two chapters.
Although Reaper is super tanky, to play it effectively requires minion management, and while you can play Reaper without minions, they are a major support to the profession. Guardian is the most straightforward high damage dealing class that also tanks. If you are looking for something that can deal damage without dying every 5 minutes they are probably your best bet. I do not enjoy my Guardian personally, perhaps she is too straightforward for my tastes, but she is really powerful even at the low levels of play
Trollish people exist. We either choose to give energy to trollish people or we do not. I do not understand what the norm is for the role playing community since I am not a member of it, but it sounds like it is similar to other parts of the game. Some people are elitist, some people feed their egos by blaming others, some feed their egos by tearing others down. Read any random map chat and you are going to see bad behavior. I had someone call me a called me a “kitten” and said I was “mentally slow”, and basically had a complete meltdown on me because I was in a large charr character and I guess I got in their way in some manner. Being unused to Charrs I thought it might have been something I did, but even if it was there is was no way that anything I had done warranted such horrible behavior. Did I care? No. I only mention it to give you an example of the fact that bad behavior exists.
My advice, take constructive criticism to heart, don’t sweat the uglies. If they weren’t being mean to you, they’d be picking on someone else.
Non-usable items of that nature are usually armors and weapons when you first start the game, they are leveling rewards. For some reason the game was designed to give you soulbound items that cannot be traded or salvaged. There might be other little odds and ends, usually trophies from hearts, but mostly you will stop getting those sorts of rewards once your character makes 80. It is such a small amount of items it really isn’t that bad.
I did the escort Ramsy event in Snowden Drifts. I got nothing for it, no karma, no xp, no gold, nothing – worst of all, I got no credit for achievement dailies as this is the on the Daily Completer track. This is a long event, so it wasted several minutes of my time. The last time I did the event completer for this map it was also buggy. Please fix this entire map chain before making this a Daily task, completely unnecessary to put your players through this level of frustration over events they don’t need to be doing. As it is, I am just going to take this map off my list of things to do. I hope others read this and quarantine this map for what it is right now, a bugged mess.
I wanted to ask to make sure I have something right before I throw a 100gs at it, in order to get the Emperor’s clothes achievement we have to buy 18 pieces of cultural armor for every race. These pieces can be heavy, medium, or light, but there must be 6 from each tier. You can’t buy them for two different characters of the same weight on the same tier, because they must be unique. That is pretty easy to understand. What I want to make sure of is that the skins are unlocked along with the achievement when we BUY the item, not when we are of a level to wear it. I tested this theory out on two different characters by buying their armor at a low level, soulbinding said armor, and then deleting the character. The pieces still show up in the collection boxes even though the character never wore the piece and was deleted before they ever could wear it. I am asking this because I want the achievement, but I have no desire to level Norns or Sylvari past their story achievements, so these characters will not last past their level 30 personal stories. I am willing to suck it up and purchase this expensive armor, but I want to make sure I will get the achievement even though I am not keeping the characters long enough to ever wear it/
Thanks, Beserker it is. I have been using Berserker exotics, and while he dies much easier than my Reaper does, he isn’t completely squishy.
I just finished crafting Mistward Armor (yay!). I thought it would be a great opportunity to try out another stat combo besides Berserker. I am amassing the materials to make heavy ascended for my Rev, and I always think it is wise to try more than one stat combo for a character before pulling the trigger on an expensive investment like ascended armor. I do not mind making him glassy and keeping him in Beserker necessarily, but I wouldn’t mind giving him a bit more tankiness, or even making him a condi Rev if that would help me use him for raids. And that leads to my next question, how does Herald fit in raids, and is that something I should be thinking about when designing his ascended build?
I haven’t been playing him long (he’s Charr if that matters). It just so happens that I have been saving these mats for awhile, and that means I am well on my way to having enough mats to make a completed set, so that is pushing me to thinking about this a little more urgently than I normally would, and I am not going to know his abilities nearly as well as I do my main, so I am going to be relying more on what I can research than my personal experiences. I bucked the meta when I designed my Reaper’s build, and it was the right choice considering she is a great tank, so I am open to lots of different ideas.
Thanks, as long as I know Im not bugged I can be patient. I don’t even know what stats I am going to use with it at this point anyways.
Oh, and “SW” is Silver Waste. Triple Trouble has a guild that specializes in helping new people with that event. The name of the guild is TTS, and they have a site on the internet that you can read about it (and a forum). If you show up a half an hour before daily reset you can get a good teq map.
The purpose of the taxi is just to get you into the map where the meta is being organized. Join the taxi, go to dragon stand, if you aren’t on the same map as your group, right click one of of them and “join in dragon stand” on one of their names. They are not staying in the group because they want to let other people join into the taxi to fill the map up. If you do not possess a commanders tag a party has a limit of 5 individuals, so it is imperative you leave the taxi as soon as you get to a map. I hope that was the answer you were seeking.
One of the components for Mistward armor is obtained through killing Son of Svanir enemy. I have killed this foe in 4 different locations, concentrating on event spawns (such as the Frozen Maw. So far, no collection drop. Before I made a support ticket I thought I would ask if it is usual to have to kill lots of foes to get these items? So far I haven’t had to wait for any of them, so it seems unusual that there would be an item that required you to kill numerous foes like it was an RNG item. I was just wondering if the general experience tended to be quick, or am I being impatient?
I don’t want more characters than 5 at this point, no matter what the character limit. I would rather do what I am doing, thanks though!
When I leveled my second human I got a notification that I had completed a different story, I assumed that it had achievement points with it because those little alerts that pop up usually do. Thanks for letting me know that isn’t the case. I am very glad because there is one race I just don’t like playing so now I only have to do it once.
I plan on having 3 alts, with one slot left open to farm mapping rewards and to get BL keys. We only get 5 character slots (I have only 5 because I started FTP in September), so I want them to be characters I actually enjoy and like. The personality on my latest character is really annoying.
I am attempting to get all of the race specific achievements for the personal stories before I use up all my character slots with characters I want to keep. From what I understand from the wiki (and my experience playing human characters) there are three story lines for each race when we create our characters. All of these stories have achievements points when we complete them, so basically we need to create three characters from each race to get every achievement? But my larger overarching question is about how far I have to progress each character to get all of the achievements I can out of each. Their personal stories are over at level 30, is there any purpose in carrying them forward as long as I have a character from each order, the orders are a separate thing from the race achievements from what I understand. I read the wiki pretty thoroughly on the subject and did a search, but I don’t want to go deleting characters after they’ve played out their personal stories only to find out that there was something more that I could have done with them.
I am having the same issue and I am unable to progress through the questline. I ran across this on 3/8/16. After the 3/9/16 patch I thought I would try it to see if it was fixed… no luck.
Thanks for letting us know, it is greatly appreciated. You saved me time
Had the same problem, so they haven’t fixed it yet.
I had the same thing happen to me tonight, it seems like half the time personal stories are bugged. I hope they fix it soon. I purchased Living Season as an add on to get the mastery points that are gated behind it, and not being able to get it done is frustrating to me.
There are hero point trains forming all of the time. I would suggest looking in the “looking for a group” section and seeing if you can join some. You might get left behind if you can’t keep up due to lack of masteries, but you will probably be able to get a few of them done.
The only way I have ever been able to get linen reliably is by leveling an alt and doing some salvaging. Also, map completion sometimes will give you 40 scraps when you complete one of the maps as a reward (lower level maps). I made a complete set of tailor ascended. I was able to get silk fairly reliably but I had to buy all other textiles and lots of leather as well. It is the most expensive set to craft, unfortunately. I will be reading the replies to see if someone else has better ideas on how to acquire fabric. I am still crafting heavy ascended, which also takes a few bolts of damask.
I cannot get the door to the Cavern of Shining Lights to open no matter what I do. I looked up how to get there on videos, and it worked the first couple of times I went, but I can’t get the door to open and my progress is stuck right at that door. I have killed that light infused gollum several times and I cannot get the door to open (which is what the only video I watched told me opened it). I do not know if it is bugged, but if anyone knows how to get it open and would tell me I’d appreciate it. This is for Living Season
That must have been the trouble. I have never had this problem before though
I cannot sell saffron thread. I have sold it many times in the past, so this is a new policy or something is bugged. It is allowing me to buy it off the TP, but I cannot sell it.
Here is my girl Thalia Nyx – Mastery level 101. She is a hybrid Reaper with Ossa’s armor and I built her specs around extending her Reapershroud. She uses a Reaper Greatsword, and the skin she is using for her staff is the Pact quarterstaff, but it is Beserker ascended, the skull glows like her mask. I’m really loving her mithril and icing dyes for the leystone armor skins she is also wearing.
