I figure if I do the Dailies I hate I am telling anet they are okay. If all of us avoided Dailies we hate, we’d stop getting them.
Thing is, even though I dislike JPs, I’m happy to see them as a daily. With daily fractal rewards having their own tab, there was no need to have them reward you again. I’m not nuts about daily event completer, but it’s not so bad if the map has decent rewards that week or I’ll be there for something (Teq/TT/map completion) anyway. Daily bosses mostly consist of getting somewhere to hit 1 (until it dies if the mood takes you to click for that long). The gathering/vista ones? 99% of the time they don’t require much effort past stepping into your home instance or a town. So why not let JPs reward you for pressing F in a different location if someone else is kind enough to let you do so? Not everyone cheeses (and sometimes no mesmers are around!), some people like the nudge to try something new. I don’t think there’s a conspiracy behind increasing jump based content, it’s just something that seems large based on the almost 4 years the game’s been out. Legendary weapon collections came out in what, October? No idea when Dry Top was introduced but I know it was before August last year (and yes, I hate that map with a passion). SAB was a good idea for an annual April Fools event, just so happened the patch hit after that with JPs added to dailies. Now if they shoehorn a JP into raids, then you might have a point
Plus ya know, this is semi revenge for all of us who complained about not being able to jump in GW1. I think the Zephyr’s Leap JP in Dry Top was overkill though. Despite repeated video watches… GAH!
I had to get a new graphics card to do the adventures in HoT. I didn’t do but two jumping puzzles before I got the new graphics card. If your internet connection isn’t good (lag), or your fsp is bad, you can’t do them, even the easy ones. I tested my PC with GW2 before I bought the game. Anet told me my system could handle their product. It couldn’t. I only really understood how poorly my PC handled the content when I attempted JPs. I couldn’t do them. It would take me literally hours to do a puzzle that takes me minutes with my new graphics card. If you are a PvX player and all the endgame content you want to do is gated behind a puzzle you can’t complete it is a horrible feeling. I literally cried because I couldn’t get silver in Fallen Masks and attain my Reaper’s achievement collection. My computer wouldn’t let me do it. I had that achievement within 30 minutes with my new graphic card.
I am not accusing you of saying this, but there is this pervasive attitude in this thread that people are just lazy or want shinies without effort. If those people put a fraction of the effort I had to put in to get map completion, they would be complaining too. And we all like shinies, even the people that claim that those of us hating these puzzles don’t deserve them. I have harvested all of the wood for my Nevermore, saved all the tier 6 mats, worked my butt off for it. I think it is really lousy that some people commenting here think that doing an activity that they enjoy is somehow “effort”.
The thread isn’t about Dailies, it is about the jp creep into every aspect of this game. And if you get a Daily rotation with a JP, a Daily Activity, and an Adventure, you might as well not have any option. I won’t do a fractal daily, I tried that once, I do not know fractals and people who do them for Dailies are impatient with newbies. WvW is confusing to me, and PvP seems to be a really nasty place, I have heard they treat newbies like garbage.
:/ But nothing is really being pushed on anyone? That’s like saying “They are forcing us to PvP, WvW, gather mats, and participated in events, because there is a daily of it! Stop herding us around A-net!!! Let us play our way!!”
If you don’t like the content don’t do it? “Play your way” is still a thing, but if a jp is standing in the way of 2g you can decide for yourself if it’s worth it or not, even if it’s simple as taking a port.
If your the type who likes to AFK in town don’t expect rewards, you don’t get Ad infinitum without fractals, and you don’t get The Ascension without PvPing.
I would slightly disagree, there are many many things gated behind jumping puzzles. I can understand the OP’s perspective. I don’t like them myself, so they stick out every time I am forced to do one to get what I want. If I want masteries I have to do jumping puzzles. If I want to craft Nevermore I have to do jumping puzzles. If I wanted Winter’s Presence, I had to do a horrid jumping puzzle,. If I want to get story achievements I had to do jumping puzzles. The core game had a few in them, but I had no idea how many achievements would be gated behind them, and it does make me unhappy with the game. Not mad enough to quit, but very disgruntled.
I figure if I do the Dailies I hate I am telling anet they are okay. If all of us avoided Dailies we hate, we’d stop getting them. I really wish they’d put a Boss, an event completion, vista, gathering, mystic forge, etc… and then the 4th one could be a jumping puzzle, or an adventure, or a daily activity. I am not crazy about Bosses, but at least they aren’t some competitive thing, or a jumping puzzle. When you think about it, this game was advertised as cooperative play for PvX, so why are we being forced to do ranked activities? I don’t enjoy that.
It seems like every single aspect of this game as a jumping puzzle attached to it, crafting legendaries, world completion, attaining masteries in HoT, I wasn’t happy to see them added to the daily rotation. I can do many of them when I have to, but I hate them. I only marginally like them more than adventures. Now that I have all the adventures I need I would rather miss out on Dailies then to have my arm twisted into doing one of those, even though they are quick. It is the principle of the thing.
What I have to offer:
I have 143 mastery levels in HoT, 6 characters at 80, and I play 3 of those classes competently. I main a Reaper, and she is fully ascended. I am working on getting her condition armor for raids. I have put aside agony resistance for infusions for high level fractals, as well. I have played this game mostly solo (started in September), and I finally feel like I am ready to tackle group content, but I don’t like pug’ing. I am mature, I am not exactly casual, but I am not an elitist. I don’t really care what the overall skill level of your guild is, just looking to learn the mechanics of the dungeons and fractals., and other people to play with. In other words, if you aren’t into speed clearing dungeons, I am okay with that.
Hoping to find:
Mature, kind, tolerant people that enjoy dungeons and fractals and don’t mind me messing up a little while I learn, you won’t have to carry me for long. I am willing to share rep with another guild that I belong to. What I don’t want is for a guild leader to pressure me to be “meta” (I have multiple sets of gear if it becomes necessary). This is a game for me and I want to have fun, I want to belong to a guild that has the same attitude.
You can message me Ophidia Moonstone. 2587, or reply here, if you have room for me. I am on Crystal Desert (NA), but I do not do WvW, so it isn’t necessary for your guild to be on the same server.
(edited by Ophidia Moonstone.2587)
I have people saying everyone should be foucsing on dps in groups and that just doesnt sound right to me, cant you do more support stuff if you want?
The game just kinda throws level 80 exotics at your feet once you start getting into endgame content. Having a set of Berserker gear isn’t that hard to do. It is one of the staple stats and even temple armor comes in Berserker stats (temple armor is purchased with karma). I do not run Berserker gear. I have a set of it, I never use it, but then again I do not care much about speed clearing dungeons and fractals, and that is really what people mean when they say you should be wearing that, or that it is meta. I play most of my content solo, my gear reflects that. It is nice to be powerful, but if you are dead you aren’t very powerful.
I am a Reaper, so I am going to invest in a good set of condition armor for group content, but my ascended set is Valkyrie. I use Berserker trinkets and scholar runes. Once you get a set of Berserker exotics, find another set that has more survivable stats and then compare them. Do you die a lot in Berserker? Maybe you might want to have gear for doing open world content, and another set for group play.
I went ahead and used your guide. I got all of the masteries I needed for Nevermore. I just wanted to thank you for putting this up here. I haven’t changed my mind about adventures, mind you, but I am so happy to be done and grateful for the work you put into this guide.
It doesn’t matter what character you are using when you first begin HoT, you will get wrecked. It is designed to be extremely hard until you gain mastery. I would go to Dulfy and look up their guide to gaining insights so that you can start to enjoy the game. Mesmers are a bit on the squishy side, you might try leveling up a necromancer. They are made of more sturdy stuff
You can still buy them on the trading post, many of them are not very expensive.
The thief is a fragile class. I don’t play mine very much. I do not know how many masteries you have, but HoT is unforgiving to every class before you get masteries. The good news is that masteries are account bound, you make them on one character, you have them on all of your characters.
My two favorite characters are my Reaper and my ranger (she isn’t a Druid yet), and part of the reason is they are sturdy. I like to solo much of the content that I do, so a character’s sturdiness is important to me. I have tried some of the other classes, and Guardians are a pretty sturdy class. They do a fair amount of damage, as well. I don’t know much about Dragon Hunter, but the core specs are pretty powerful. Revenant is much more sturdy than a thief, as well.
Thief, elementalist, engineer, and mesmer are all a little on the fragile side, but the first three do high dps, so you really can’t expect them to have all that damage potential and be sturdy as well – it’s the way the classes are balanced.
I know anet nerfed some of these adventures, and I have gotten a few more golds and silvers as a result (actually got a silver in shooting gallery), but they really need to understand how thoroughly despised they are by many players. I wouldn’t have enjoyed such things ever, it reminds me of angry birds. The only time I play angry birds is when I am at the doctor’s office. I have to think because they didn’t want people to burn through their expansion they made these ridiculously horrible challenges to slow us down. That is probably going to cost them sales for their next expansion. I am really on the fence about buying that. I don’t have fun with this game. I have spent months on this and I hate it so much it almost hurts. Is that really how they want us to feel about their game? My son bought me gems for my birthday. I haven’t bought any for myself in months because I don’t want to throw good money after bad. One thing is for sure. I am waiting to buy the next expansion, and if there are gates like this in it, I won’t be buying.
3 years ago, we didn´t have a mastery to take the items so if people were farming afk, they had to use bots.
Moreover, statements change with time. Some months ago, they were going to release a full set of legendaries, but they changed their mind. We shouldn´t use a post which is 3 years old to say what is forbidden or not.
Just because things have the potential to change over time doesn’t mean that Anet needs to state their stances every week, month year, decade, etc. They have a stance. Unless they indicate that it has changed, it hasn’t.
I don’t like afk farming and I hope anet finds a way to stop it, that disclaimer aside….
… The problem is that the rule you speak of was put in place when only 3rd party software could loot for an afk farmer. That has changed, and now we have the ability to auto loot clarification of the previous statement is needed, particularly when one of the developers made a contradictory statement about pet/minion mechanics being used to gain loot in unintended ways not being considered as an exploit. There are plenty of exploits that anet has fixed, I don’t see why they’d let this hang out there and not address it further because they addressed a similar concept 3 years ago. They need to clarify if they consider this an disallowed exploit.
They don’t need to clarify. Their statement is pretty simply as it is. Back around launch, there were people who did this to level their characters.
Obviously, they do need to clarify, see all the people that are confused? That means they need clarification. People ask for clarification, that means they need clarification, you don’t get to decide what others need clarified for them.
Particularly since no action has been taken against players that do this even though they’ve been reported repeatedly
I can already tell your list is flawed. It supposes that people are able to easily play with action camera, many of us find that camera mode unfamiliar and aggravating. It supposes that our computers handle 45 to 60 fps, many of us do not have computers that render frames that quickly. There are two things that are making me regret buying and playing this game, one of them is that anet gutted my endgame content. I demo’d the game in September, bought it in October, all on the promise of an interesting crafting system. They took away my motivation to even complete HoT. I was doing it for the legendaries. I still work on it occasionally, but every time I do an adventure all I can think is that I am doing it for only one weapon. I will only make one HoT legendary. I might very well quit the game after completing it. I already had invested literally 1000s of hours of game play to make that weapon.
I was literally in frustrated tears over getting silver in Fallen Masks. I had to buy a new graphics card in order to get the necessary FPS. My son is much more experienced in game playing than I am, he told me why I couldn’t get silver even after months of trying, it was because my computer wasn’t able to render frames quickly enough. I got silver within 30 minutes after that new graphics card was installed in my computer. My computer needs a new CPU if I am ever to finish the mastery lines in HoT.
When I installed this game anet told me my computer could handle it. I feel lied to. I also bought the expansion thinking it would be like the core game, that was a huge mistake. The adventures are some sadistic joke as far as I am concerned. I have 131 masteries, only a fraction of them are from core Tyrian content. I need 7 more masteries to buy the gifts to finish nevermore. I might as well need 100. I’ve attempted all of the adventures. I may be able to eke out 7 more after a few more months of trekking to the masteries when I can find them unlocked. I don’t think I am alone in my anger and frustration. The worst part about this is people may feel like they just aren’t good enough players, which isn’t the problem for many of us, it is our computers weren’t suitable for this content to begin with, and we were sold a product even though anet should have known it was wrong to do that to us. And before you recommend doing the story over to get achievements and masteries, some of the same problems in obtaining adventure masteries exist with doing those story achievements, speed challenges aren’t good if you have any sort of lag issue, it is a recipe for failure. Basically, we’ve been set up to fail, and nothing kittenes me off more than being set up to fail.
A higher percentage of pugs are jerks, the only way they can find a group is to go to lfg. I am not saying that all people that pug are jerks, btw, I have tried to pug quite a few times, rarely do I have good experiences. I’ve also joined groups and left right away, and it had nothing to do with the color of their dyes, it was their f’d up attitudes.
I have a certain threshold I won’t sell mats under. I keep them. If mithril falls below a certain price, for example, I just make a gated component with it, and give the rest to one of the guild I belong to, or I sit on it. I don’t give mats away, I’d rather use them. I enjoy farming for them because it is relaxing, and generally I don’t care what happens at the trading post because I use my mats to make things. Just sit on your logs until the price rebounds, because someday it will. Or make some spiritwood with it, I guarantee you will still make some profit there! Or does that sound a bit more like work?

I don’t think a friends list is an accurate measure of GW2 activity, unless you added all of those friends in the last 6 months. Like any activity, old people leave, new people join, others are sporadic depending on what is going on with their lives. This is why guilds like TTS purge themselves every month, so they can get rid of dead wood. I don’t think measuring the success of GW2 based on a guild that is 2 years old would be helpful
PvP, however, is a different matter. Near as I can tell, you need a lot more skill to win consistently using core-only builds. There are posts from folks who have done it, so we know that HoT isn’t required per se, but it does appear that the new builds offer a more substantive advantage in PvP than in PvE/WvW.
I.
There is a way that anet could change this and make it more fair, allow players that own the core game to use elite builds in PvP. From what I have heard PvP is a level playing field. You can’t use buffs, everyone has the same access to all available gear, and all players are the same level no matter what they’ve done in PvE. I think this has led to the expectation that no one should have any advantages in PvP, because historically they haven’t – there are other games that don’t operate that way, and players that haven’t bought the expansion would naturally feel upset that one of the things they liked best about this game has seemingly changed. I doubt that anet will change their policy, lots of people have bought the game, but wouldn’t have, if it weren’t for the elite specs, and there are plenty of players that might by the expansion, but haven’t yet, that do PvP. It would solve a lot of player gripes if they did it though
I just have to wonder, did you think you paid 60 or so bucks three years ago and that was going to buy you unlimited gaming entertainment forever and ever, like a static console game? I don’t know how any company could continue to fix bugs, update content, pay for servers, have support staff, etc etc etc, without making money. Gem store sales help keep the lights on, but anet needs to make a profit when they create new content. You don’t pay a subscription, how can you expect anet to create new content and just provide it for free forever and ever? I could see your point of view if anet was charging you a subscription fee, but they don’t, the gem store covers what a subscription fee covers, but to make new content, it needs to be paid for. If you don’t want to play that new content, then don’t buy it, but holding back the rest of the community that wants the new content isn’t fair, nor is expecting anet to keep the game static to please a few players that don’t want to pay anything more than their original investment.
If you bought the deluxe game for 80 dollars when it was originally released (the most expensive version) you spent slightly more than 2 dollars a month by the time HoT was released. tell me, what other sort of entertainment could you buy for that little? I’d truly like to know. And I am saying this as someone that will probably not purchase the next expansion because I feel jipped over the Legendary fiasco.
I’m sure as we get more expansions were bound to get new playable races. Of course it will be awhile but what are some races you would like to play as in the future?
Here are my top 5
1. Tengu
2. Kodan
3. Hylek
4. Ogre
5. Centaur
The only race I am truly interested in would be the Skritt. I think they would be a hoot to play.
Condition necro is viable for some open world content, especially Triple Trouble, which requires some of our skills to take down certain monsters. I haven’t played condi necro much, but if you are really interested look up Brazil on youtube and he goes into the necessary gear make a good build for condition play. I main a Reaper because of their survivability in the open world. I can face tank some champs solo. I don’t know if it is possible to do with other classes, but it is possible with a Reaper. We do not do the most damage of any class, we are not a healing class for team play, and there are probably other classes that can do condi better than we can, but we are the “jack of all trades, master of none” class. We are extremely versatile, and I think Reaper is the funnest profession out there.
It just depends on what you want from a character, do you want to run a meta toon and clear content as fast as possible? Then necro probably isn’t for you. If you want to have fun with a character that is viable for lots of different things, then you would love Reaper.
Even better! No wonder I am seeing such an improvement.
BTW, you can get temple armor in Cursed Shore for karma that you’ve earned. I would have told you that in my earlier post, but I didn’t think of it because I assumed you’d know this if you are doing HoT, but just in case you didn’t know what, you can get Soldier stats in Arah, Soldier stats will keep you alive better than Berserker.
I use a greatsword/staff. I run spite and soul reaping, and reaper for my specs. I have selected skills that will extend the life of my reaper shroud. I sport bone minions, Rise, Suffer, and a flesh golem for solo roaming. I love my build.
Spite –
Spiteful tailsmen, rending shroud, close to death
Soul Reaping –
unyielding blast, vital persistence (that extends your reaper shroud time), death perception (good crit chance boost)
Reaper –
Augury of death, grave digger, reaper’s onslaught
I have scholar runes a valk ascended, Berserker trinkets, also ascended.
I will say that you are going to have problems with mobs until you gain some masteries. That should be your first concern until you hit about 30 to 50, and then you will have a much easier time of it. The insights are a good source of masteries, most of them are fairly simple to get to. When you can get to dragon stand, keep doing the meta, this loads of XP and masteries for just running the lanes.
I have all the components for scholar runes banked, so it was simply a matter of crafting them. Sure, I could have kept the charged cores for a rainy day, but I looked up and it seemed like it might rain soon, so I went with it.
I like these runes, I can see a big difference. I am doing pre-nerf damage, so that’s nice. I don’t fall down to that low health threshold very often, but when I do the boost is nice. I like these runes better than I like strength runes on my mesmer. I put those in her exotic armor, and I wasn’t impressed with them. I wish I had sold them…lol
I have valk ascended, so scholar runes it is
Basically no daily reward for us folks, unless we want to do a loathsome jumping puzzle. The longer I play this game the more I am convinced it is ran by sadists.
When I made my ascended armor I went with Superior Rune of the Reaper because I regularly use shout skills and I enjoyed chilling foes (I am a PvE player btw). Now that there has been a nerf on our chilling damage, should I change out my runes? Or do my runes still work the way that they used to? I have noticed a difference since the Spring update, I am doing far less damage than I used to. I am considering getting some scholar runes instead. I know scholar runes are meta anyways, I am just curious if the 6th tier chilling boon is history because of the nerf.
I tried searching my pc with that extension substituting my name and it didn’t come back with anything, not surprised, I haven’t looked for computer files since I had windows 98
Depending on the weapon to make it through a collection requires fractals and map collection of Tyria. I am assuming that you are talking about precursors that can be bought, because HoT legendaries are even harder to make. You need HoT map completion, you need to have all of the mastery lines completed. Even if you are talking about a Tyrian weapon, you need the legendary mastery line completed to finish the weapon. It is quite a process if you are just starting out in the game. I’ve been playing since September and I still need 11 mastery points to make my final weapon. I am struggling to complete those stupid kitten ed adventures. If I had to do it over again I might have went with a buyable precursor, I think the HoT legendary weapons are harder to make because of all the grind of the maps to get the correct currencies to make those legendaries, plus the mastery issue. I wouldn’t invest myself in HoT legendaries had I known I would only be making one of them. I thought there would be other interesting HoT weapons to make. Since they cancelled my end game content I doubt I will buy the next expansion. I feel betrayed and angry over it.
Twice in the last week Dragon Stand has crashed on me. I don’t want to waste my time on this event if I am going to put two hours in for no reward. I don’t know what I should even do about it.
I have been playing for 6 months and there is a large learning curve to this game. Personally though, the thing that sold me on this game was exploration. I was glad there weren’t informational tutorials every few feet. It wasn’t that hard to figure out as I went along, (even thought there is a lot to learn), and youtube is a great resource if you don’t like to read. People have made videos about how to do just about everything in this game. I don’t ask things in map chat as a rule. There is always some fool that likes to use your question as an excuse to feel superior. Best bet is to find a guild that mentors new players, there are quite a few around.
(edited by Ophidia Moonstone.2587)
I have no interest in such a boost. It isn’t particularly difficult to level a character to 80. I can’t see this as pay to win. If they were offering traits or gear that you could only get through the gem store that would be pay to win. Shortcuts are a convenience only.
The only time I die on lower level maps is because I went AFK or was absolutely not watching were I went. I don’t understand how you could get 1 or 2 shot in a low level map by anything other than a champion, not even a vet would kill you so easily. If you are new to this game and don’t understand the difference between a champ and a vet perhaps the trouble is that you haven’t mastered how it works. I am not saying that to be snarky, there are problems with this game, the scaling system isn’t one of those problems
How do you determine which guild gets the favor on a mission? I’m not pshawing the idea of removing rep, but missions (and WvW claims and guild PvP teams right?) do require you to rep in order to assign where the rewards go.
Wouldn’t it be rather easy to create a dialogue box and you select which guild you are doing a mission for when you start the mission?
Even with level 80 toons, map completion can become quite a grind. From my own experience, character levels have very little impact on the overall chore of mapping….
….I’ve done map completion on 7 characters, but I would definitely consider buying a full-map unlock for other toons, such as my revenant (who is level 80, but only has a tiny percent of map completed.) or even my engineer (who is level 80 with about 70% map completion). At this point, it has just become too time-consuming for me to waste my heavily time-constrained playtime to get map completion on any more toons.
As long as you didn’t get the legendary Gifts I wouldn’t mind you unlocking map completion. I still think you should have to do map completion to get those, add to that, if you unlock the map on any character that character cannot ever get Gifts, want to get a legendary Gift, make a new character.
I know there are a few players out there that do mostly PvP or WvW and do not have waypoints mapped for many areas of Tyria.
Please consider offering a map booster that will unlock all waypoints in specific maps or regions and nothing else.
As long as you can’t get legendary gift rewards I would be okay with that. In other words, if you want to get Gifts of Exploration, and other sorts of world completion rewards, you have to do the game the way it was designed. There is no reason to nerf legendary journey rewards. To you it may just be a skin, to many others it is like your PvP or WvW rank, don’t mess with that.
Black Lion Chests (BLC)
I went to buy 10 keys for the BLCs
I got… nothing…. Viva L’Updates!!!
Really, I got merchants, 3 Lion tickets, and other useless stuff. I know there where only 10 chests… but yeah… not worth buying more.
You will hate me when I tell you this. I got three keys for doing map completion and story rewards in one week. From those keys I got one complete claim ticket, a total makeover kit, and a self hairstyle kit. I never buy the keys – ever. I don’t get them as a reward I don’t get them.
Simple. I am disabled and play with only my right hand and a single usable digit on my left. Why buy a nightmare? Sadly, platforming and vertical have become the norm, and not an interesting option for those who enjoy that. Single demographic. If you can’t/don’t like platforming, go away.
I can play Core, even though I am gated from an increasing number of options/achievements there, I can’t even enter Dry Top in spite of hours spent attempting it before giving up. And no, I refuse to be “carried”, If I cannot do content myself, I won’t.
Although I did raid in WoW, Everquest, AoC and EQ2, I am too slow and imprecise to do group content now, I cannot carry my weight. I solo in Core. I do have 8k ap and rank 250 in wvw, not much, but I try. AP comes very slowly now. I have 13 80’s and now a 52, I bought another slot again because leveling a char is something to do.
I play core because there is still an option on how I can play. I watched hours of HoT footage, and there is simply no options for me there.
I have a painful auto immune disease so I do have sympathy about your condition and inability to play certain content. That being said complaining that the content is only for a privileged few that bought HoT and that there is nothing for you is rather unfair. Of course they were going to make this content harder because it is an expansion of the previous game. And most people love the verticality of the maps and gliding. In fact, groups I belong to cite the gliding at the best thing about the game. There maybe modes you can play better on. You could switch mouse hands and get an MMO mouse, and you could switch to action camera to help with getting movement off the keyboard. Just a thought.
They did it to entice f2p to buy the game. I don’t know exactly what happens with this boost, but I am thinking map completion is still a thing. It doesn’t take very long to level a character to 80. A brand new player can do it in a week if they played every night for 4 or 5 hours. It isn’t that big of an accomplishment. On the other hand, map completion is a huge thing. It is the entire basis of the endgame content.
Not only are they perhaps the funnest collection item in a lot of MMOs, but they also enrich the setting and make it feel more immersive. There’s no reason not to have both waypoints and collectible mounts.
The only possible drawback they could have would be being resource-intensive, but all they really need to do to make that a non-issue make them not usable in combat or in certain areas.
Are there reasons why Anet and GW2 players are opposed to them that I’m missing? Wanting to be different isn’t really a good enough one.
The only mount I want is a beetle in HoT that is only usable in the Nuhoch lane. Like a reward for doing that beetle raising meta, the one where you protect their larvae, take them out hunting, etc etc etc. I love the way that NPCs look on those beetles, and it would be fun to ride one, but only to do that fight meta – kinda like the Exalted suits.
I left my first guild because they had a 100% repping requirement and I won’t join another guild that has a repping requirement. On the one hand, maybe doing away with it would create a situation where people like me could try out new guilds without repping pressure. On the other hand, I kinda like knowing which guilds will want to control me and my game play to the extent that they would demand 100% loyalty all the time to that one group. I think this is especially important for new players that haven’t experienced different kinds of guilds to be able to do so without all that pressure from guild leaders. New players do not have a lot of experience to know what’s out there
what bothers many of us about skimpy outfits is not that they exist, but mainly 2 issues:
-when most of the female outfits or armor is skimpy, you’re taking options away from them, you can only be sexy, and many girls don’t want to only look sexy. So, more options is better.
-males don’t really get many skimpy outfits or armor choices (I’m looking at you, medium armor human male)and some guys also want the option to look sexy and show some skin, so again, more options would be apreciated.I don’t think anyone wouldbe against sexy armor for females if they had the CHOICE to wear them or not, and if males had comparable options to dress skimpy too.
For a more company like Anet, that has tried t be progressive, this should be a non issue at all.
Most female armor is not skimpy. There is literally one option for a short skirt in the game for light armor (besides the skirt our character comes in). There are no options for shorts for my class. Most skirts are long or mid length, with the exception of Aurora, which resembles a cheerleader skirt, probably the ugliest skirt in the game. Carapace, Leystone, bladed armor, illustrious armor, drybones armor – basically almost all armor since launch, covers a lot of skin. Sure, some of the tops might be revealing if they were paired with other items, but when paired with the bottoms I can’t believe anyone would call them “skimpy”. My class not only has a long skirt option for just about everything, there are pants under the skirt for most of the armor that is newer(basically like a conspiracy to make our characters look ugly). I can’t stand leg slits, either, or the hole crude they call tier 3 cultural armor. The feathered is okay I suppose. To me skimpy armor means both the top and the bottom are very minimal.
If you want coverage go with dungeon armor, order armor, devout, drybones, acolyte, illustrious, student, exalted, seer, country. Even many I don’t mention aren’t exactly “skimpy”, even though they have shorter skirts, because basically they are poofy skirts over leotards (cabalist and magician are not skimpy). That leaves about three sets that you could consider skimpy… apprentice, winged and feathered, and that ragged stuff they call tier 3 human cultural armor. There is some that borders on skimpy, like the top is small, but if the bottom is completely covered it really isn’t skimpy skimpy. You could mix and match armor to get more options for coverage they way I mix and match to show more skin. You have many if not more than I do.
I am highly upset about legendary weapons. I may even quit the game over it eventually. I put in too many hours and bought the game for the expanded legendaries to quit before I make one.
Hard to be highly upset over something you haven’t even made one of.
Now if you were a serial legendary crafter and had all the others then I’d concede you had a point, that part of the game is currently closed off to you. But if you haven’t even made one yet? Not so much.
I bought the game in September because of the crafting system. My main motivation to play this game from day 1 was to make legendary weapons. I wouldn’t have purchased it if I had known that they were going to shelve crafting as a priority. Worse than the money I spent was all the masteries I grinded, the currencies from HoT maps, endless hours of metas with people who were jerks in map chat, all to craft these weapons. I really don’t care if you have sympathy for the months I invested in this game, you and your opinion don’t matter to me.
I am crafting Nevermore, you can take your laurels and trade them for a heavy crafting bag which will give your tier 6 mats, every laurel is worth a couple of gold by doing that. I do a few a week because I need those to actually craft it.
Leveling alts gets you black lion keys, mats for map completion, usually a mini and a rare dye or two. You can get achievements if you haven’t done all the different personal stories for all the races. I have found every character is worth at least one black lion claim ticket, I get the skin and sell it for between 65 and 80gs. Between all the mats for map completion, the transmutation charges, the dyes, and keys, it is a nice little sum that doesn’t feel as grindy as Dragon Stand or Silver Wastes. I got a total makeover kit and a hairstylist kit last week, and a complete ticket the week before.
Consume item boosters and other gathering boosters, plus magic find food and farm Orr. You will quickly learn where they best nodes are and you can speed clear it with an item booster that will give you gathering swiftness. There are events going on as you go through, join in and get the map rewards for killing a champion or two as well. You will get lots of extra strikes this way. I can farm about 300 logs in an hour if I am really concentrating on wood.
Elite Specs make recreating a character with tomes less appealing, I’d imagine. Even if you’re swimming in the things and gear up with account-bound equipment, you still wouldn’t fully unlock your elite spec for a good while.
Not to mention that resets your birthday counter.
Part of map completion is hero points. If you had the ability to “reset” your character you would lose those. So, I fail to see how having a reset button would be appealing. Also, it is actually profitable to take a new character and level them up with map completion. I don’t see how you could expect to make all that profit without actually leveling up an alt. What I mean by that is the character rewards, like new gear, dyes, black lion keys, etc etc etc. I don’t think it would be fair to people that actually level new characters to give these things to people by letting them “reset” the map. I especially think that part of the accomplishment of map completion is getting through the map without a fully spec’d character. Map completion rewards go to those who actually accomplished something… btw, you get hero points just for leveling, so you would not be starting out with a weak character that had no skills at all. I just don’t see why the game should become so nerfed that we give legendary gifts out like they are writs of XP, they aren’t. I suppose I am a bit biased in that I actually am working on a legendary and I not only had to get through Tyria, but Maguuma as well because I am crafting Nevermore. If I want to craft another weapon I have to do it over again, and I don’t mind that.
I would do this. Then I don’t have to map complete on classes I loathe.
How would this solve that issue? And why can’t you just keep creating toons of classes you like to explore?
I would think that I could keep the Gift of Exploration for completing the map and then I don’t need a net new character to enjoy the game my way either. I don’t want to be level 1 many times to get tomes for repeating the same task over and over. Just let me be 80.
The game gives lots of tomes. I think you get 10 tomes a month for logging in. You get writs of XP every day for doing the dailies. You get 5 tomes of mentorship for map completion to level up your next character. In other words, it seems highly unlikely that you would need so many gifts of exploration that the tomes you get as rewards wouldn’t insta-level any character you wanted to do map completion with. Perhaps you are one of those rare players that crafts legs every day, and this is a problem for you, but I can’t help but think you’d be a minority.
I haven’t done raids, so I don’t know what sort of problems you have finding other raiders, but it seems to me there are a few options. One option is to level another character that has a “viable” profession. You could join a guild that focuses on raid training. I know TTS has raid trading, and they are very active, without being clingy or controlling. Even if you didn’t find a team to raid with through them, you’d learn the skills necessary to do them and you could form your own team.
There are aspects of this game I find hard to master because of the team aspect. so I get why you are experiencing this, but I have found once I got determined about learning it, and I mastered it, the fun followed. I couldn’t stand HoT metas. I learned to absolutely love Dragon Stand. I actually find it relaxing, yet challenging. And you never know when the map is going to fail, so it has levels of difficulty built in.. it is also a fairly lucrative chain because they increased the rewards recently.
My main is a Reaper, and there was no class as reviled as necro when I decided to main it. I made that decision before HoT was released. It turned out that Reaper isn’t at the bottom of the food chain anymore, so i get how you are feeling, but I was always able to find people willing to play with me, even then. Every profession is viable for raids. They may not be optimal, but they’re viable, so find others that are suffering from the same elitist rejection and do your own groups.
Free to Play games will always attract new players that will buy gems. Since the Chinese release new players is really all they’ve been after.
For the veterans that have been here since the release it has just been getting worse. Making them buy the original game twice when HoT was released was just insulting. They ended up buying the game for the new Free to Play players and getting less than what they paid for in return. What this game needed was a strong GvG implementation and Guild oriented PvE content. By focusing the LS and WvW on single-player/zerg content they destroyed so much of the potential the game had on release.
As someone that came to this game based on the free trial I have to say that is completely inaccurate. F2P players do not have access to the gem store. They do not have access to more than 2 guilds. They cannot initiate contact with other players. They cannot access the TP. I am sure there are many other aspects of game play that I am not thinking of that those who play for free do not have access to. The free part of the game is an extended trial version. Basically, you can explore the game up to level 80 with very little, actually almost nonexistent end game content. You can’t really craft, you can’t access high level fractals. You don’t get living story, you don’t even get Southsun content.
I bought the expansion. I, supposedly I got the core game for free, yet I had to buy living story. You got living story for “free”. Without purchasing living story I didn’t get the masteries that were gated there. Not only that, but I never got the first season of living story content where Scarlet blows up Lion’s Arch, and that content was 10,000 times superior to the content I bought in the expansion. It was actually a story worth playing. Not only that, but I have had to play catch up with the rest of you. It would have been well worth the extra 50 bucks to have most of the Tyrian masteries completed when the expansion was launched. I have spent 20 bucks on the Living Story content, and without that content, the expanded story doesn’t even make any sense.
Guilds and friend list they never on anymore
many just login to get the daily login reward and log out again
hundreds of youtube videos about why i left guild wars 2
Is this the end for guild wars ?
I am highly upset about legendary weapons. I may even quit the game over it eventually. I put in too many hours and bought the game for the expanded legendaries to quit before I make one. That being said, people move on from games, if there are no new people to replace them then the game will die. There has been new players to replace the old, you just haven’t updated your circle. Maybe if you went out of your way to recruit new players you wouldn’t have a contact list that was inactive.
