I have tried to get my metereologicus trophy to make Storm, the map crashed twice now. I only have a couple more trophies to get to complete the collection. I hope this gets fixed soon
Yeah, ok, 5s is showing it’s worth, green leather armor is going for more.
And Ascended gear is hardly junk, seeing as you need to salvage it for legendary weapons these days.
I think either you misunderstood me, or I didn’t type clearly. I’m not talking about your ascended drops even remotely… I’m talking about only what comes from BL chests. Classifying some items as “account bound junk” is not the same as saying “all account bound items are junk.” If I get a merchant express from a BLC, that item is account bound junk (to me), and I can get nothing for it… I’d rather have the ToT bag to use or sell at my whim. Your PvP ascended gains have nothing to do with that.
~EW
I used to feel that way when I was always trying to farm stuff for gold. Now gold comes so much easier to me than it used to, I want the stuff I can’t buy with gold. I save those express items for emergencies. I use speed boosters for specific reasons. There is no other way to get speed boosters in the game. You cannot buy them with gems (I’ve looked), you get them for leveling up a new character and from BLCs, and now I can’t even get them out of those. I don’t know why you’d cheer taking something away from other players that they like, instead of getting on the side of seasonal items should an added perk, not a replacement for an entire slot.
If ToT bags were so worthless, people wouldn’t be spending hours on hours of their lives farming them.
I’ll be waiting on my BL chests for easter when I (hope) there’ll be the miniature-giving eggs… I wanna crack at my grail mini, the jack-a-lop.
~EW
(darn you IWN for convincing me that minis were worth having. :P )
I decided to stop farming ToT bags. I got my endless batwing potion, a couple of those amulets that turn you teal and orange, and a couple of rares, two exotics. True, my haul in the week I did it was approximately 350 gold, but I can make that much gold doing things that are actually fun, the lab feels like a hades grind, and not the fun kind of spooky fun kind.
I love speed boosters. I save them for WvW and for the Blighting Tower. When I opened my new chest I had a merchant express, a tome of knowledge and a trick or treat bag. I think this is possibly the worst chest I have ever opened. I suppose whatever skin it gave me was one I had already unlocked. I probably won’t be buying keys anymore. The only reason I get them is for tickets and ticket scraps, and the booster is at least a consolation prize. Without the booster I have no interest. A trick or treat bag? Really? Come on.
And I don’t know if other people are in my position, but low level skins are lame, I have Fashion Collector achievement, which means I have all the low level skins I need, and I am wondering if the marketing department researched who buys chests, is it people that don’t unlock these skins? If so I guess it makes sense to do this… it doesn’t attract me, though
Ambrite Weapon and Leystone Armor also get you 1 Ascended Box each
How hard is to complete Ambrite? Leystone i’ve never seen, is it from a HoT area?
It took me almost a month of grinding Dry Top to get that collection finished. You need to get the lock picks to open buried chests to find fossils to trade to Gentt for each weapon. That is 16 fossils you need to collect out of those chests. Getting lock picks is a grind in and of itself. You will also need to have around 400 geodes to buy the recipe for each weapon, the amount you need to build a weapon depends on the tier map you find yourself on when you buy the recipe. You will need a considerable amount of ancient logs and orichalcum and quartz. Basically it took me longer to finish this collection than it did for me to craft an entire set of ascended gear, but I wasn’t doing it for the gear, I was doing it for the Tyrian mastery.
BTW, you get one mastery for getting silver, and another mastery for getting gold. Just thought you should know.
As far as HoT I would recommend that you read a guide on hero points. Some can be solo’d, some cannot. You need those hero points because they will unlock your elite specialization skills, and without those skills HoT is very hard. HoT also has masteries as a core concept of game progression. You cannot even glide without unlocking that skill with masteries you earn while exploring the expansion maps. Dulfy has excellent guides to help you find hero points and masteries to progress.
I would keep any key or lockpick. There is loot in those chests that these items unlock. Also, if you ever want to get masteries for Dry Top Ambrite weapons collection, the items to make those weapons are in the Dry Top buried chests. I was really happy I held on to mine when I was ready to make my Ambrite weapons.
Thanks. I was just making sure I didn’t have to get an achievement to unlock the ability to craft it.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to make the batwing shoulders for Halloween. I already have the bat sword, and I thought the bat shoulders would go so well with it. The batwing tonic is very expensive, so I want to make sure that if I actually buy the tonic I can still make the shoulders in the mystic forge. I ask because the Winter’s Presence was a special shoulder skin for those who did the winter jumping puzzle. I wanted to make sure that the bat shoulders weren’t locked behind some sort of content I do not have access to because I have only been playing this game for a year. Was there some special task I needed to be able to do to unlock the ability to make these?
I would caution you, you have to have completed one path of the specific dungeon that has the gear you want before it unlocks in WvW or PvP. You also get achievement points for doing so. Also, they rotate when those reward tracks are available, so I would open up the tab for your reward track and see what was currently available, and when the track you want will be available next.
No legendary weapon updates? Complaints. Return of legendary weapon updates? Complaints.
Sometimes, I really do feel for the developers. . . .
To be fair, the opening comment wasn’t about the legendary update, it was about how all legendary weapons are acquired. This complaint has nothing to do with the new legendary weapon. So, anet would have gotten this complaint whether there were new legendary weapons or not.
I went for that mastery for crafting full ascended for every weight, so when I feel like putting some time in on an alt I will put the ascended for that weight class on the alt I am playing. I am one piece of armor away from having 2 full sets of ascended for my main, so I can use the spare set for a light alt. They all have their own achievements. In other words, i went out of my way to get all the specialization achievement weapons for every different class, so I have one of each class. I farm with my alts. I don’t feel like I am wasting time on them, but I do feel most comfortable driving my main around. It is just easier for me to play her, she is geared to the teeth and she is hard to kill, so I enjoy her a lot more than the other characters.
The badges you can get from achievement chests.
500 is not a lot the people who play every week have 10,000 and some even 40,000.
About spvp no comment but the wvw requirement is really easy.
Like if you are dedicated enough you can do it in 1 or 2 days.
They changed it, no longer are your achievement badges sufficient to buy Gift of Battle. They took the merchant that sells GoB out of WvW altogether. They did this a week before I finished Nevermore and because I do not do WvW I didn’t read the patch note, so all of those badges I saved were for nadda. I could have bought cultural armor skins instead of spending gold on them. I was not happy.
Same thing happened to me
Its telling me that Guild Wars 2 is full and I have been put into a queue? Does that even happen?
Thank you for your answers, it looks like I am getting a new skin today!
The toxic spore back item skin.
There is a skin that I have been thinking about buying off the TP but I need to know something about it before I pull the trigger on it. When I hover over the preview it says that the skin has “one time ability”. Does this mean it isn’t permanently stored in my wardrobe once I unlock it? It is a pricey skin, so I don’t want to buy it if I can only use it once. On the other hand, I thought it might mean it was free to apply once, and then after that it would cost a transmutation charge. Does anyone know what this means exactly? Thanks.
I’d assume you guys would know what I’m talking about from the title. Which one do you personally prefer and why? I do realize one is a specialization and one is not but I’m choosing between the two soo..yeah.
I’d also post in class subforums if I wasn’t asking about two different ones so please excuse that.
I deleted my thief shortly after getting all the thief achievements. I thought my thief was too hard to play, I didn’t enjoy her. I am just not into the passive skills, the tricks and the traps. Just not my personal playing style.
Rev is interesting, I like that you can rotate through the different trait lines and that leads to some interesting combinations.
So I have 2 mediums and a light character. However, I’ve been trying to make a heavy for crafting purposes since it would be nice to take advantage of the heavy armor I would be making. However, I hate everything about heavy classes. And I mean I hate how they are designed. I don’t like playing them. Is there anyone who doesn’t have lights or heavies? Or even mediums? I feel awkward using a crafting discipline on a character that cannot take advantage of the entire discipline.
I felt like you do about heavy armor character. I do enjoy my Dragon Hunter. Have you gotten any heavy characters into their elite specs? It is really hard to judge any character until you can fully use their skills.
The only melee class I enjoy besides my Reaper is my guardian. I like his speed buffs. I like his defensive traits. I like his weapon options. I have looked for ways to make my Warrior and my Rev faster, they are so slow in the open world, perhaps I am overlooking their speed traits, but I haven’t found a way to make them faster, so I don’t play them other than to farm iron ore or elder logs.
It would be foolish for ANet to set up a discount policy for the express purpose of appeasing players whose attitude amounts to, “I bought product X. and am therefore entitled to pay less (or nothing) for any subsequent product that the company offers.” Discounts and customer loyalty programs have their place, but creating such to cater to such a mindset would be a fool’s errand.
I don’t feel “entitled” to Starbucks rewards points for purchasing coffee, but I do appreciate the program and it makes me feel better about buying a 6 dollar drink to know after I purchase so many of them I will get a freebie. The thing is sooner or later GW2 is going to have real competition from another MMO, and when they do you will most certainly see such schemes to encourage player loyalty… which is basically all this is, encouraging players to be loyal and spend $$$ on gems knowing that their loyalty will be “rewarded”.
So what you are saying is that a Charr body is treated just like an Asura when it comes to outfit design? They appear far different conceptually. Look at the wedding dress, for example. I have a hard time believing that they do not have to do separate work to design these outfits. I have one outfit, the Mad Scientist. It fits my female humans all the same no matter the weight of their armor. It does not fit my Charr even remotely like the human females. I dislike outfits generally, I liked the mad scientist for my Charr, but I won’t ever buy another.
It makes no sense for them to not issue new armor through the gem store. I have bought three sets of gem store armor for my main character. The only remaining sets that I haven’t purchased I either don’t care for, or I wouldn’t invest that money in alts. If they put out new armor I liked I would buy it. I don’t understand why people buy outfits.
They make money on the gem store tools, they make money on your enlarging your inventory, as well. So, if you are stocked up on tools you will have less room for loot. I bought a bag slot earlier today because it was 50% with 3 item boosters. I wish they made salvage kits stackable, too, same reason we can’t have stackable tools applies to stackable salvage kits.
I have been farming keys for awhile now, so each week I get one key at the very least. Sometimes 2 or 3 if I do a lot of map completion. I have bought exactly 1 key by trading my gold. I don’t know why I bought it, just a lark I suppose. I have gotten some good drops from chests. I find the lesser items to be very useful, and I love being helpful by dropping a merchant while waiting for the Blighting Tower, or a booster for leveling wvw. All that being said, I don’t buy things without knowing what I am buying.
I agree with the person that said if we quit buying chests, they will start selling the items to us directly. But that isn’t likely to happen. People like the idea of spending very little and getting a really big prize for their low investment.
So basically your contention is that anet is lying about the amount of work that goes into outfits as opposed to armor, and that they are inventing the clipping issue dilemma? Okay then, in my universe I am going to take their word for it that they know what they are talking about when it comes to designing their game. I don’t develop games, so I am not going to pretend to have the expertise to say that they aren’t lying about this. I will say that if I thought that anet was a dishonest company I wouldn’t be giving them any of my money, my time, and I wouldn’t even be on this forum talking about it, because I don’t do business with liars.
Hey, I get being upset because I am upset STILL over the legendary weapon fiasco, because I bought this game being told there would be all these legendaries (I started playing with the expansion, so I am probably one of the few people that felt like I was sold this game and that they failed to deliver the content I paid for). I don’t think that they “lied” about the legendaries, though. If I thought that, I wouldn’t be here.
I am fortunate, necromancer appealed to me aesthetically, and I love the entire antihero persona of the necromancer. When I bought this game and decided to main a necro I pretty much went with the redheaded stepchild of GW2 (btw, I have ginger hair and was a stepchild, so hope no one is offended by that). When the expansion gave us Reaper I was in heaven. Of course, they’ve nerfed my girl, which makes me sad, but at least she is improved over what she was in the basic game. I would play her no matter what, but I am very happy with her abilities. I don’t think I would like taking all the abilities and putting them on one character. I have enough options as it is. Your mileage may vary.
I am responding again because I didn’t address the issue of the price of the expansion v the amount of new armors available. I would like to mention that each new set has be designed to be compatible with every other set, so it becomes exponentially hard to design each new set. Think about it, every time they add a new set that adds many more pieces that have to be designed to be compatible with other pieces. So those two sets represented more man hours of design than the original ones did. It is basic math.
I want all existing outfits to also unlock armor skins of the appropriate weight.
You don’t even have to give out transmute charges with them, just unlock their various parts as skins.
They’re all built on the existing light/med/heavy armor rigs anyway, and their very existence throws the idea of “recognizable class silhouettes” out the window.
This would in no way impact outfit sales, and would in stead make them more attractive purchases for all players.
I fully agree with this. There are more than a few outfits out there I haven’t bought because I can’t just use the parts that I like. If this were an option – be sure I’d buy a few more outfits just to use the good bits in them with my armor!
Outfits are much easier to produce than armor is. From what the devs say it is fairly time consuming to make new armor. They have to design it so that you can mix and match each new piece with other armor sets, and they have to do this with each playable race in three different weights. Outfits do not have the clipping issues, only come in one weight, and so they only have to worry about making them appealing for the different races.
That trash mob you passed up? Had your precursor drop.
This is nonsense.
There are people with over 2000 hours that have killed every mobs, never seen a precursor.
There are people who started last week and found one on a mob they only killed for their daily.
The level of luck involved is so absurd that any advice “like killing them for increased precursor drops!” Is just flat out bad advice.
Like do you tell your friend if you buy 5 lottery tickets you have a good chance of winning? no you are still hundred times more likely to be struck by lightning on a sunny day. If you buy a lottery ticket expecting to win you are a moron.
The way to get a precursor is to buy one off the TP or craft it. I don’t expect precursors, I never thought I’d see one, I’ve had two drop in the 3000k hours I’ve played this game. I crafted the precursor I actually wanted for nevermore. The best advice is not to look for the precursor to drop, look for the mats from the mobs to craft the precursor you want. But if you don’t play the lottery you can’t win it. And getting precursors dropped or in the mystic toilet is far more common than getting struck by lightening or winning the lottery.
I’ve gotten The Lover, tier 6 mats, ascended armor, lodestones of various types, from killing mobs. Just last night in Orr I did the exploration of the tomb event with lots of mobs and got a glacial lodestone, a vial of poweful blood, lots of mats, a vicious claw, and a giant eye. It was 5 minutes, so I don’t know exactly how much loot we should get for that minimal amount of work, but it seems about right to me.
I would have welcomed every new armor set, however all we get are outfits since over 2.5 years now, and that was one of the many reason that made me stop playing this game
Just take a look here :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Post-a-pic-of-your-character-only-if-your-armor-is-mix-n-matchand see how many of those armor pieces are not older than 2.5 years.
There were two complete sets of armor for each weight and each race released with the HoT maps that are purchasable with HoT currencies, bladed armor and leyline armor. Perhaps I didn’t understand your point.
I want a short skirt for light weight human females, or boyshorts… we do have one short skirt, but it is the armor that our character comes in, and it dyes very poorly, the texture is flat, and the dye channels are hideous. Basically, it is probably the most poorly designed piece of armor for human female light weight armor… it is really a shame because human females have beautiful legs in this game and they are fun to expose with wings, but that skirt is so hideous and it doesn’t match any of the other armor pieces with the way it dyes… it is completely untrue to any bright or saturated hue.
I have a question I didn’t see addressed, will there be new revive orbs, or will this be a buff to the revive orbs we already have sitting in our banks? I have a rather large pile so I am hoping it will be the latter.
All previous existing Revive Orbs will automatically be updated to reflect these changes.
Thanks, I don’t know how I missed that in the original… must not have gotten enough sleep and need a revive orb (known as “coffee” around here…lol)

If you like doing open world metas in HoT I would go with a Reaper over a Rev for one reason (it is my biggest reason for not playing Rev very often), Reapers have a signet that gives them a 25% mobility buff. That might not be a big deal to some people, but for me it annoys me to run around in characters that have no speed buffs. I assumed all characters had them when I made my awesome Charr rev. I get so frustrated because not only is he slow, but he feels even slower because he is a Charr. It actually puts me in a bad mood to play him. But your mileage may vary.
Actually, I main a Reaper, I like other classes but Reaper = love for me… it is just so much fun to play.
I have a set for every weight and I have taken to putting the ascended set on any character I am playing regularly. The content is easier with ascended armor and I notice the difference when I’ve switched from exotics to ascended with new characters. I believe in ascended armor so much that I am currently working on crafting a Raiding set for my main character, so she will have two sets. Is it necessary? No. You can get by without it, but if there are two things I will sink gold into, convenience and boosting my character’s ability. The cosmetics come easily.
Not a perfect match, but if you wanted a similar look this would be an option, it is Asura cultural armor
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:Genius_armor_light_asura_female_front.jpg
I main a Reaper, so the two I use most are Zuzu, Cat of Darkness (lore says this kitty takes souls off battlegrounds so it is like a little Reaper!)
I just bought he Orrian Wraith, and I have been using him a lot lately because he is new and shiny… I love how he is animated.
A couple of other hints, you can buy 18 slot bags from the TP for the same or not much more than it would cost to craft them. They run less than 4 gold each. It might be worth the trouble to buy another bag slot for your inventory, they go on sale often. This will make your inventory lots more roomy. I usually stock my inventory with 5 or so master level salvaging kits, and a yellow (rare) one. I can play for a fairly long time without having to go clean up my bag. Like was said earlier, right click the salvage kit and “salvage all” is a lot easier to organize your bag than it used to be. Just “deposit materials” after salvaging. It literally takes seconds to do.
When I was working on my legendary and needed karma very fast i got a karma infusion from EotM, I bought a trinket hat can be infused with this booster, I karma boosting food. I used candy canes (they are their own slot), I ate pans of angel food cake for my utility slot. I keep my karma infused trinket equipped unless I am doing fractals, then i switch it out with a fractal trinket that as agony resistance.

I have the same error code.
I just noticed that none of these players had one mastery between them, and while that may not mean f2p, it does mean that they most likely do not own HoT. I can’t imagine trying to beat these bounties without my elite spec.
If we destroy a bounty notice will we get a new one the next day? Varre can almost one shot me and I am wearing valk ascended armor. I am tired of wasting my life waiting for enough players to take him, most of which seem to be free to play (not that I have a problem with f2p, but still they can’t survive against him). I would rather forego a couple of APs than deal with this guy, get a fresh notice… does anyone know how it works?
There are options for cultural hairstyles for norns. What it seems you dislike is that other people want human hair for their Norn characters. I don’t play Norns, so I have no interest in their hair, I have always come down on the side of more customization, not less, if someone wants human hair on their Norn, I don’t see a problem with that.
Playing devil’s advocate but I think the reason they are releasing season 3 slower this time is to dedicate more resources to the next expansion. Hopefully that means the next expac will be bigger and better than HoT, but we’ll see.
So basically, we have to buy more story, they ain’t giving it to us for free. The Living Story is more like Amazon letting you read a chapter in a book to see if you want to buy it.
There were no hero points, three vistas, a handful of POIs and a handful of way points. This made the map feel smallish to me. I got map completion without trying for it. I literally had a chest in the lower right hand corner and was perplexed as to what it was for until I opened it and realized it was a map completion reward – that is pretty dinky. But I started playing a month before HoT launched, so I do not know how big patches should be. I still have content to finish, so for me this hasn’t been a content drought, but if I had been playing for 3 or 4 years I would probably be bored to tears with what’s out there.
Gift of Battle takes a couple of days to a week to acquire with this new system. That’s nothing compared to how long it takes to acquire other materials. I remember when I started on my first legendary weapon. I had to do WvW for the badges as well as the Gift of Exploration back then. At least you don’t need to map WvW anymore.
I had enough to buy two Gifts of Battle from getting achievement chests, true, I like getting achievement chests and work towards them, but it just came with the way I play the game. So in my case you are wrong, and I bet most other players that also want to build legendary weapons like achievement chests as much as I do.
I’m afraid you are a bit late to the party, in the wrong sub-forum, and fortunate with your other Legendaries that you never had to set foot in WvW, as previously (before Desert Borderlands), one had to even map all 4 WvW maps.
Now, with the Reward Track, albeit slowly, one can obtain the Gift of Battle by completing the WvW Dailies that require no real participation, such as ‘Big Spender’, and using the enclosed Potions to further the track.
For more information, peruse the thread and Dev responses in the WvW sub-forum.
Good luck, and sorry for the changes that might have been communicated a bit more visibly.
I have been grinding EoM for dungeon armor rewards and I had to grind it for Gift of Battle. It would take a year to get that reward track done if you only went and bought siege for the one daily chest that gives that reward. I don’t know how you could sit there with a straight face and suggest someone didn’t have to participate in the game and could get that track filled out by doing Big Spender, which isn’t on the Daily list but a couple of times per week.
