There is no portal to target for the Dive Master achievement in Bloodstone Fen. I can’t make Aurora without doing this achievement.
What do you need the mastery for if you don’t want to raid?
Many people want the max masteries next to their name. The same reason some of us attempt to get achievement points. Your question is a bit like "Why would you want fractal masteries unless you ran fractals, or “why would you fill out your legendary masteries unless you wanted to make a legendary”…. because they’re there.
If the glider isn’t going to be of use in the expansion that is a serious road block to my desire to purchase it. I love gliding. It is my favorite thing about HoT maps. I don’t care at all about mounts. In fact, if that is the biggest thing going for this expac I am going to wait until buying and see what else it might offer that would make the purchase worthwhile. The demo was unimpressive. I didn’t find the mount to be intuitive or fun to play with. You can’t use it in combat. It just seems useless and like anet was attempting to satisfy those begging for a mount. Kinda makes me sad, but I was thinking about taking a break from the game anyways.
For those mocking this player because he thought the HoT maps were too difficult, there were many people that agreed with him. It was kinda annoying to go from the core game to the HoT maps and find that I couldn’t explore it without encountering things that killed me as soon as I ventured into the map, at least until I had achieved masteries. It would have been one thing if event monsters did this, but things like pocket rapters, etc, killing you before you could outrun them kinda sucked. I enjoy those maps now, rarely die in them, but I found it very frustrating and I regretted buying HoT for quite awhile after I had made the purchase. I still have HoT complete map completion on only my main character. I am not into hero point trains, or running to keep up with other players, or haunting hero points until someone shows up to help me get through it. The only map I really mastered was Verdant Brink. The others I just lost patience with. It isn’t that I couldn’t do it, it is just I didn’t want to do it. And I have Tyrian map completion in over 12 characters.
I agree. I suppose they want people to show that they’ve managed to achieve mastery over all PvE play modes in order to sport full mastery levels, but they already get rewarded very well for raiding, I don’t understand why they don’t allow us to fill out that mastery track now. They didn’t have the same restriction for fractals mastery line.
hide mounts for player who dislike them (and there’s a topic with 2000+ response, most veterans proven to dislike mounts, most players that want mounts don’t actually play atm).
…soooo you’re saying if they added mounts those players that like mounts but aren’t currently playing would start playing thereby increasing the player base? ;D
Or current players that spend money in the gem store will decide to quit the game. I am going to play the preview weekend and if I think that mounts are deleterious to the game I won’t buy the expansion. I am not excited by the elite specialization for my main character, either, so it appears there’s nothing in it for me. And if I find mounts in tyria I might just quit playing altogether. I spend quite a bit of money in the gem store. Chasing players who do not currently spend any money to alienate those that do seems a stupid business strategy. It is like chasing two birds in the bush when you have one in your hand.
I am willing to give it a chance, who knows, maybe I will love it, but I am doubtful of that. And gliders are very different. They only show when you are actually flying.
I eat item boosters (can be bought with laurels), and then I farm hard wood and other items that are more uncommon. I do this to make gated materials. I sell them over the weekend when the price goes up. Mind you, that is not all I farm, but just from time gated materials I clear about 100gs a week, and it doesn’t take that much time. I farm probably on average about 30 minutes a day. The item booster gives you extra strikes and it is a speed booster in between nodes so you can move from node to node more quickly. Time is money when you are farming.
I also key farm while I am getting materials on characters without map completion. I get at least 5 gold per map I clear in just materials collected, sometimes more. I have 7 BLC tickets in my bank. I can’t decide whether to get skins and sell them, or save them up to complete my own BLC collections achievements. Each of those tickets is worth at least 50gs, more if you get the skin and hang on it it until it appreciates.
All sorts of ways to make gold in this game. Festivals usually have built in gold boosting opportunities, as well. Keep up on what is going on in the development notes so you can better gauge where the opportunities are. For example, when they gave out the choosable dye pack with our boosted characters I made a calculation that many people would sell dyes for much cheaper than they had before. I was right. I picked up several higher end dyes for quite a price break.
I used to pick the legendary rewards when I first started, now I go with the laurels. They are far more versatile in their uses
I find it is more interesting to go to GW2 efficiency and look at what value they assign to my account, and it measures it next to other accounts. It is a little side game to see if I can bring up my account value relative to other accounts. Every percentage point feels a little bit like an accomplishment. Making legendaries can really drain your assets, but it doesn’t feel as draining when you see your account value go up.
I do not buy keys. I enjoy map completion on alts, I buy character slots for extra storage. I worked out that by buying a character slot for storage, doing map completion with the alt I tend to get the following.
92 storage slots
Materials farmed as I complete maps
A transmutation charge or a key
An alt to farm stationary nodes
The transmutation slots and keys offset the cost of the character slot. Those who do not think actually buying a key is worth it, but want to open chests, might like my strategy.
I do think anet should nerf it next season. The achievement has been around for few years, they should develop some new activities and allow others to enjoy a skin that should be old news by next year.
As far as I’m aware Winter’s Presence was added in 2015, I don’t think we can call it several years old yet. However I agree that by next year people will be itching for something new.
I did not say “several years”, I said “a few years”. By next year it will be a few years since they released it. A few is defined as between 3 and 6. So, yes, I stand by my opinion that they should either nerf the requirement to make it, or nerf the jp itself. It isn’t a legendary weapon, it is a skin. And it is a skin related to content that is only accessible a month a year. It is associated with content that many many players find beyond the capacity of their their computer specs. I don’t see how allowing more people to enjoy this skin is hurting those who’ve had it special for 3 years by the time next wintersday comes around. They nerf’d the night fury batwings drop, I didn’t complain.
The jumping puzzle is too hard. The music thing is something I have zero interest in doing. I like the fact that this is a brainless activity that I don’t have to work so hard to get it done, farm some presents, get the daily done. We have to do three winter activities each day and they rotate them, considering there are three I don’t like to do making the remaining ones harder really makes zero sense to me. Perhaps if they let you choose the scale so you could have more difficulty would be a good compromise. There are a ton of people that do the lower scale fractals so get their dailies done as quickly as possible… not content where they might actually die.
The frustrating thing is that many of the people lack empathy for others being unable to do JPs like this one is because they have good computers and their frames per second are top notch, they are comparing their performance to others that might have lousy FPS. It ain’t fair, but life isn’t fair. I will probably never get this skin, I’ve made peace with that, but for many many other people that have invested hours that they could have spent having fun with the things they enjoy about the Wintersday festival it is indeed a bitter pill that no matter how hard they try their computer will not allow them to succeed. So for those who think that their accomplishment is so special, perhaps it is just your superior equipment. I’ve managed to get near the end ONCE. I haven’t been able to get past past the presents again. It ain’t no biggie to me, I like my Night Fury shoulders better anyhow. I main a Reaper so it is far more appropriate than snowflakes.
I do think anet should nerf it next season. The achievement has been around for few years, they should develop some new activities and allow others to enjoy a skin that should be old news by next year. But then again, anet doesn’t seem to be investing much into their festivals, which is rather disappointing. it makes me want to invest little of my time or energy into them because they’re just the same regurgitated content. I didn’t buy any Christmas items from the gem store this year. I had considered doing so, but I wasn’t so excited about it once it got here.
You can farm some of the new living season maps to get unbound magic, bloodstones, and winterberries to trade for some trinkets, and you get to select the stats you would like when you buy them. You can also earn ascended backpieces as well. I am using these methods to get ascended trinkets for my alts.
I think OP has a misconception about GW2 being mainly “soloable content”. From what I’ve seen playing last 1.5yrs, it really isn’t. (Aside: just recently I bought GW1, and though I’m only lvl3, I can see that there are always NPCs to help you, and in addition to what a guildie mentioned with much instancing etc., this first game entry is indeed meant mainly for soloing.)
You want to farm H’ween Labyrinth? Join a tag. Most guild missions? Need a guild with actual people in it. Content locked behind [Group Event]? Usually needs a group. Many HoT hero points might be soloable, but they’re so much easier with extra bodies, even if it’s just that one extra person to provide a momentary diversion from VB’s golem HP. Also, not every Dungeon is so easily puggable. I’d want experienced thieves to lead CM or Arah, and have seen it go horribly wrong on a few occasions. I’ll be honest, I’m usu sighing when pugs come into the dungeon group with strange specs, sub-level80, and/or without food.
TLDR — My point is that GW2 has been inherently created to be group-based content. Believe me, I love to solo things too, and thief was my first main, so I have definitely experienced bad beats. You really just need to find the right guild for you, and many of your problems will go away.
I was initially by myself for maybe a month, then joined a tiny guild, but that didnt work out for me as they wanted to stay tiny with slightly off timezones. Later I joined a mega guild, met a bunch of awesome people, did a bunch of previously closed (to me) content, like ALL the missions. After a long time, I did eventually move on to a guild more focused on endgame content, with more reliable T4s and raids that also fit my timezone. Current guild also does a few voicechat-based events outside of GW2. So yeah, some guilds might pleasantly surprised you.icy`
I am the type of player he mentions in the OP. I solo vast portions of this game, I pug many other portions, and when I hit a wall I will ask someone in a facebook group I belong to to help me get where I need it. I belong to guilds, I would like to do more guild stuff, but it isn’t that important to me and it is basically an achievement hunting thing. I don’t find the guild interface to be very user friendly, and having belonged to quite a few guilds, they are mostly filled with fairly unfriendly people… which is fine. I am not that friendly while playing myself. I am busy focusing on my goals.
Some people, like me, enjoy figuring out how metas work on our own. Some of us know how to use LFG to find what we need. The OP didn’t say that we do not randomly meet up and play in groups, but that those groups are not long lasting, and that most people spend their time solo’ing and randomly pug’ing content, and the OP is probably right because most people do not have the vast amounts of time to give to trying to beat content like raids.
I don’t mind there being special armor gated behind this content called “legendary armor”. My problem is that there is only one set of legendary armor, it is ugly in my opinion, and it wouldn’t look good on my main character anyways. Why not have different sets of legendary armor earned in different ways? Something that would look good on a medium weight character, something for a light weight character… something feminine? Lots of women play this game.
I suppose I wouldn’t mind so much if we had some new armors for other game modes, such as fractals armors, or armors related to living season achievements. Yes, we have back pieces and helms, but those aren’t full sets of armors in different weights. We do not even get new armors in the gem store. It isn’t that I am disappointed I will not get this set of legendary armor, which I think is ugly actually. It is that we won’t get different types of legendary armor for other game modes. There’s the one way to obtain it, and that’s it. That isn’t how legendary weapons are earned. There are many paths to get one of those.
It tells you that you have to be a grandmaster whatever regardless. Talking to the the NPC just teaches you the recipe.
For the other legendaries I have made they instructed me to bring them things. I was able to build those components, though, thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it.
Every time I have tried to do the last fight of this story I rage quit. The vents don’t work the last phase of the fight. I get him down to 10% health and then the vents won’t deploy. I decided I will never finish this story. I have reported it as a bug, no one cared to respond to me. I just don’t play this game to get that angry. I may not buy the next expansion as a result of that experience.
Another thing, when I try to create a bug report it kicks me off the server, so I can’t report it as a bug in the game. Very frustrating. Could someone please respond here so I know that my issue is being addressed? I would appreciate it.
I am on Vol. 2 of Kraitkin. I am working on making the weighted trident head and shaft. I went to get the instructions from the master artificer and she told me that I needed to be a grand artificer. I am a grand artificer. I made sure that I didn’t accidentally deactivate artificing by purchasing something from another master vendor, but it is active. I crafted ascended timegates just a couple of hours ago with an artificing station.
Personally I would like to see enemies that require different sorts of specializations in order to kill them. Like with Triple Trouble you need condi damage to take out husks, perhaps other portions of fights that require stealth, still others that require heavy DPS, and healing skills that can be shared team-wide on every class so that no one has to be a dedicated healer, and any class can have a role in team play, in other words designing healing skills in such a way that players have to sacrifice other skills to maximize healing, making their spot into a dedicated healer. You could even design certain fights to be optimized with minions and pets so that rangers and necromancers would be more viable in new dungeons and raids. I am far from an expert in balance or in how these things are designed, but it just seems to me that every class should have a role so that they have a place in team play.
I would go for the exotic gear until you know what is going to happen with the class, because I can’t see it remaining this nerf’d forever. I main a Reaper and wanted to build another Reaper just for Raids so I wouldn’t have to switch back and forth between gear and builds, so I bought a character slot, turned all the assorted ascended armor drops I had lying around into Viper, and I even made Meteorlogicus for my Raid character. Right after I finished Meteorlogicus and was preparing to take my character into raids, they nerfed her. So I totally feel your pain. But I am hopeful that they are going to show her some love soon and make her and her gear relevant again. If not, she is a good condi character for doing triple trouble, but that is an awful lot of investment for triple trouble, and I don’t even enjoy doing that very much.
Using minions for toughness, running Valk gear, my Reaper does very well in open world when it comes to survivability. Although almost every build is good for survivability, I even more difficult to kill than I would otherwise be.
I use my flesh golem for open world roaming, like when I farm. I have the same sort of sense of attachment to him as some people have to their ranger pets. I really would like to be able to name my golem. Even more importantly, I would like to be able to heal my flesh golem like rangers are able to heal their pets. Flesh golems already self heal. It wouldn’t make up for the nerfs we’ve had lately, but it would add enjoyment to playing my Reaper.
No. Those mechanics are meant for rangers and their pets. The flesh golem is not a pet. It’s a slave. It is not alive. It exists purely as an extension of the necromancer’s thoughts. Healing the flesh golem will not make any difference in QOL for necromancers, and will not make any sense in the lore of the game.
Slaves have names.
It doesn’t matter to me because I usually hide my shoulders and I do not wear outfits. My character is a female and I don’t like the way shoulders look on her.
Both the music and the art in this game is amazing. The production value is extremely high. Just wait until you hit HoT maps and glide around for a little while.
My dream of being a Skritt will never come to fruition. Their home instance and stories would be awesome.
I enjoyed it. I didn’t feel it broke with immersion. I wondered if women would like it more than men… maybe I am being a tad sexist in thinking women would like it because it felt nurturing.
Ophidia Moonstone.2587, WvW is far from being a competition…
Fighting is competition…
They have leader boards for the different servers, you get points and you score them against each other, you kill each other. True, it is also cooperative play, but it is listed under competitive play for a reason. For the purposes of what I was addressing, having leader boards for dungeon clearing, or timed metas, etc, would be turning PvE into WvW and PvP with adding a competitive side to it.
I suppose some people enjoy competing, and that is great for WvW, PvP, but turning PvE into a competition would seriously compromise my enjoyment of this game. I enjoy PvE because it fosters cooperative play. If people really like to compete, why aren’t they doing the competitive game modes?
I like collections, crafting, doing metas in large squads, dungeons and fractals. We have enough problem with people being fearful of PUGS because of meeting up with your average jerk, adding competition to this would only make that vibe worse.
If people quit buying outfits and only bought armor, we’d have more armor and less outfits. I have bought exactly one outfit, and I regretted it.
It appears that if a legendary was silly in the first set, then the second set is more classic sort of weapon, and vice versa. So Flame Seeker Prophecies was a serious design, and we have that baby quaggan thing for the second shield. So I doubt they will have a serious sword for the next set. Since Bolt had a classic design the next legendary sword is bound to be silly and fantastical
From your link: Ascended armor only increases damage by 1.8% over exotic if you already have ascended back, trinkets and weapon.
so basically majority of the ascended gear…..
But ascended trinkets and even back items are given out for game achievements, or even buying them with laurels, which you get for the hard task of just logging in. The new map has an ascended back item for very little effort, just collecting blood rubies. I could see your point if these were only obtainable through high level crafting, etc, but that is not the case. Also, I’ve had quite a few ascended (some of them armor) boxes drop from doing Edge of the Mists. So it is possible to collect these pieces without crafting them at all.
I’ve noticed more and more of this, it is as if our society has turned into a bully culture, people mocking others telling them to look for a “safe place”, etc. I don’t know what to do about that, but your comment gives them the attention that they obviously are seeking in their pathetic lives.
I lost my temper once during Jormag, some jerk put an aviator box in where we sit and res each other so that we would hit it instead of res someone… they thought that they were so cute.
I delete and sell spam crap if it is bugging me. If it is less than half a silver to buy something I am selling it to a merchant ASAP. I deleted rotten eggs, toilet paper, etc etc etc. I figure if I am ever going to need this crap it will be easy enough to buy it, and unlike real life, I don’t need toilet paper for anything
Ok……
You can not compare this with skin=legendary etcYes they should change it, this is stats, not skins, people need the stats to play, it is not an achievement or goal…aka legendary, stop being closed minded
I personally do not use time gated grinding…..But it does not make sense, why would you wait if you got the mats and can almost instantly make 1 copy of xx gear
There is literally no reason other than confusing it with legendaries or other skins that needs a long time to gather for the sole purpuse of showing off…and just so I can copy/paste later……
No stats are not an achievement or a skin, some builds can only work with them and it does not make sense to punish a person just because he/she did not pick a profession that only run zerker or any other cheap gear to be able to join anything
In theory I have no problem with people being able to charge crystals, but there are other special stat combos that are difficult to obtain, such as certain trinkets that are only gotten in raids, or by doing Living Story chapters, etc. There are some runes that are meta that can only be obtained by achieving a certain mastery level. This is actually one of the less egregious gates for a novel stat combo. I have a character with full ascended celestial stats, and yes, it was time consuming, but it also gave me something to do. I am a crafter, so I support gates because it adds value to crafting – particularly ascended gates. People are willing to sell these materials at the cost of crafting them because they do not value their time and don’t do the math. Which is why many legendary precursors are actually cheaper to buy off the TP than they are to actually do the work to make them.
I wonder why they design the less used weapons first? Shortbow, mace, and now shield. Cant they come up with sword or greatsword? :/
Shield is actually a a pretty good weapon for Chronomancers. I like having a mace off hand with my warrior I made Eureka for off hand with Frostfang main hand to have a fire and ice theme.
I quite like the new shield, possibly one I’ll start working on when it’s released.
There are already 3 Legendary greatswords.
Well, technically there are two pretty precursors for Eternity, considering that the vast majority of people that go for the legendary greatsword are going for Eternity and you don’t get to keep the other two legendaries when you make the third. If there were three Greatswords, then you’d have all three at the same time, with stats you could change.
I don’t like the Eternity concept personally. I find it annoying that one of my favorite weapons is a greatsword, yet I have no desire for the greatswords they have out. They really aren’t stand alone weapons. I’ve decided to craft foefire essence to go with Nevermore on my Reaper. She also has the teal spectral amulet that was released with halloween, and the phantasm glider…
I often go to Edge of Mists to do a daily or two when the PvE options aren’t very good. They have options like Land Grabber or Big Spender that are really easy and don’t take too much time. If you ever want to craft a legendary weapon you are going to need to grind for the Gift of Battle in WvW, it’s on the reward track, so if you do dailies there sometimes it will help earn WvW currency for Big Spender and reward track points.
I like rangers because they are the sturdiest medium armored profession, and they are fun, but for solo play I prefer necromancer. They are very versatile and they are great survivors. You can do a power build, minion master, or a condition build, and all of them are viable for PvE. I have two necros, a Viper condi build and the other is for roaming solo, she is a hybrid of a minion master and a power build. One of my favorite things to do is to use minions as bombs. There are no pets you can explode.
A few days ago I decided to start the collection for crafting sunrise, turns out it’s a massive grind for materials… I was wondering if is it faster farm the gold to buy the weapon from the TP? If I buy the precursor will I be able to craft the legendary even if my collection is incomplete? Ty for the answers.
My way of saving up for legendary crafting is to do the collections, as I do the activities for the collections I also farm materials a little each day, things that I can sell, like hard wood. I play content that I enjoy, and that also yields mats and gold. I built nevermore first. It took me a year after playing the game to make it, mostly because I was starting the game from scratch and I had to achieve almost every mastery to make it. Since I built nevermore a couple of months ago I have made meteorlogicus, and now I have moved on to building Kraitkin currently. I started playing this game a year ago in September, you can make these things fairly fast if you make it a priority. I would look at what it is you need, sell mats that don’t go into making your leg, and slowly buy those that do.
You wanted to know if Boosters were in the chests. A preview offers that information.
Again, if the loot table changes (such as what’s offered in the first slot, or any other additions/removals), one can preview the contents at any time.
Good luck.
Again, before we had a guaranteed booster, now we do not. The end
Thanks for posting this. I was looking for info on whether they put the boosters back after Halloween, I guess they don’t want to sell keys. So I will keep stockpiling them and not buy keys until they change this.
You can see what a Black Lion Chest will have on offer (at any time) by previewing its contents in-game. No need to look at the Wiki or Forum anymore. It’s very nice. =)
You don’t see what is in that chest, you only see what the possible drops are. So, while that might be a convenience, it has nothing to do with the fact that the only way to get speed boosters is by leveling a character or getting a booster in a cl chest, and now we can’t get them in the bl chest. I love speed boosters and they cannot be purchased from the gem store.
Thanks for posting this. I was looking for info on whether they put the boosters back after Halloween, I guess they don’t want to sell keys. So I will keep stockpiling them and not buy keys until they change this.
Wow, how spooky, your guild hall is haunted
I don’t know how many times you’ve done map completion, but I have done it 7 times. I have also done partial world completion on characters I ended up deleting. If I do not farm a map I can complete one in a little over an hour. A lot depends on the map, how busy it is, and if I get sidetracked. The more times I do map completion, the faster I am at it. Doing 4 maps in 7 hours doesn’t seem that bad, unless you’ve done it as many times as I have. Each map has shortcuts, you’ve got to run it to know it.
I farm keys once a week, and I purchase them on occasion. I will not be buying keys until this is changed, and I am going to stockpile the keys I get for map exploration and key farming. I don’t see a point in buying keys or using them until they change it. I think it is a rip off.
1 – You feel unrewarded for doing dailies currently because you aren’t getting any more AP. Well I hate to burst your bubble, but the 2 gold and the 3 spirit shards are worth more than the 10 AP you get,
.
Well that is subjective. To YOU the spirit shards and the gold are worth more than achievement points, but for many of us they are not. I have spent lots of gold on achievements (I have crafted three sets of ascended armor, done every crafting discipline, purchased miniatures, etc etc etc). There are special skins (both armor and weapon) for getting achievement chests, and also title recognition. So personally, I don’t agree with you, achievement points are much more dear than gold.
