I’d still love more race-specific armor…especially for charr and asura.
you could do so much awesome stuff with asuran armors and a lot of the human helmets just don’t look very comfortable an asuran heads. those big ears are important for the design of the asura in my opnion and squeezing them like that can’t feel nice.

I like the weird “grumpy old fighter and substitute son/daughter” situation between him and the PC.
I’d love to see a possibility in HoT to meet him again in the mists or something.

how powerfull are each nation/race armies?

in Lore

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

I don’t know. if it comes to war-oriented organisation and infrastructure, the charr are probably very much at the top, but asura can be very fast everwhere and are very gret in inventing things. they’re also small, so they can probably better sneak around than a big charr. so I suppose they’re a tie. the humans have a lot of inner-political problems, and they’re not as pefect oriented on war, but I think they can still stand their groud very well.
Sylvari have a few disadvantages, one is that they seem to be much less people than charr or human or example and another that they’re still not long on tyria, so they may not be as experienced as the other races.
the norn are strong…but they’re not an army. they don’t have a real hierachical military structure, every norn is responsible for themself and in some cases for a family member, but they’re not soldiers.
I think they could defend themself well enough against all of the other races in some way in a direct fight, but would be very weak if it comes to more tactical finesses.

It’s about homosexual NPCs not about interracial couples. while of course there are some points of contact in the topic I think you’re stretching it a bit.

it would be awesome to have the spirits of wild as (big) minis.
perhaps see-through and slightly glowing like the ghosts in ascalon. Perhaps as pack so that you’ve got all four when you buy it.
It would look so awesome on Norn characters.

what a cool idea. i actually like all of them.
if they’d glow purple I’d most certainly buy them. :I
bow 2, sword 5 and shield 7 are the coolest in my opinion. the fit the theme the best…with the swords, a lot off them have spikes at the pommel, what I personally would consider as not so comfortable.
bow 2, just because the style…it looks the most “shatterer-like” to me…not very practicable though.
shield 7 because I think it would look aesome hen it glows, with that big crystal part.

stupid question…but what’s with Norn (bear form) and Kodan. wasn’t there a Kodan that said that they had the same roots? that would make them genetically probably more close related than human and Norn. Especially since Norn originate from Tyria and Humans don’t.
i think it is much more likely for a norn to start a relationship with a Jotun or Kodan, than a Human.

not that it matters for a homosexual relationship.

Inspired Character Names!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Oreithyia.3064

Oreithyia.3064

oreithyia is the name of a greek nymph that was married to Boreas (borealis), her name means “storm through the mountains”…I used Orentyia as a form of it for my norn warrior and Oreanthus for my human guardian.I’m planning on doing “Boreas” as a name for my revenant.

Oreanthus has the second name “Damon” from the ballad by Friedrich Schiller, “die Bürgschaft” (the pledge).
Damon tries a tyrannicide at dionys, fails and should be crucified. He asks for 3 days of time to plan the marriage of his sister and leaves his best friend as his warrantor. the best friend trust him and when he actually comes back sholrtly before the 3 days are over, Dionys is so amazed by that that he asks to become their friend too and is not a heartless tyran anymore.

Antigone Nasjakova (charr, ele): a greek drama figure that was caught up between the mighty and end up dying. .. her surname is Nasjakova, which doesn’t fit the setting at all, but I wanted three characters to be called “Ohri, Nasi und Bohri” as a nickname…which would translated to something like “Ear-y Nose-y and pick-y”…I know I’m very adult with this. XD. Russian-ish surnames also sound very kitten to me.
she has three cubs of different age ith differen sires in the Fahrar, but because she thinks they have to get strong on their own, she doesn’t have contact with them.
she’s one of these moms that always write letters and annoy the Primus, because she wants to know how they’re doing though. she may not be very caring, but she wants her boys and girl to do well and make her and the legion proud.

Blaithín the Bard (mesmer, Sylvari): Blaithín means “small flower” in gaelic and “the bard” because I thought of her as a carney and ballad-monger telling the news she heard on her travels by singing simple ballads.

Eoghan Eibenblatt (ranger, sylvari ): Eoghan means “born form the yew tree” in gealic. Eibenblatt means “yew leaf” but it is also connects with “Legolas Grünblatt” the German name of Legolas from The Lord of the Rings.
Klonkh Zawoosh: it’s a onomatopoeia and it sounds pretty “Asura” to me.

Kaiserkind (emperor’s child): my newest, human engi. sadly “Kindliche Kaiserin” (childlike empress) from the neverending story was already gone. I’d tried to make the character look very naive and childish. She is a streetrat, but she firmly believes, she’s actually a decendent of nobility dreaming of being born with a golden spoon in her mouth. She’s still a streetrat though and is actually a bit perfidious. The name was a mock of streetrat friends and foes, because of her wierd habit of proclaiming that she’s a “princess”, she likes it and since everyone used it, her “real name” was forgotten.

I actually find the thought of a asuraxcharr or asuraxnorn (for example brahamxTaimi) sexual relationship much more unsettling. And yes, i think that it sound like it could be pretty hurtful for the asura. Not only because of size, but also because of these races often being a bit more robust in the way they show their emotions. so while I totally can see a character feeling love for another character from a different race (you’ve got this interracial family with asura parent and charr and human children in LA for example), i think Anet is right with not putting in any too sexual stuff.

I don’t care much about what gender/sex the person has, that the NPCs share their bed with…I just want them to be multi dimensional characters with strenghts and weaknesses and I want females that are not just eyecandy in bikinis. And on that Anet did a pretty fine job (eventhough kasmeer is dressed a bit unpractical for accompaning the PC to the desert).
If it helps the story develope then I’d like to have a homosexual, manly NPC (a forgal-kind of guy for example), but the character shouldn’t have “homosexual” as the only personality trait in the game.
generally tyria is not the real world, so the ratio of kitten to hetero could be different…it also probably deppend on the races and their cultures a lot. The norn and asura probably don’t care a lot because what they see als a purpose for their life isn’t really “starting a family”, the charr also don’t have a focus on that matter and would probably have no problem with homosexuality on its own but more with the induviduals focusing too much on one person instead of the whole warband.
the humans…well they seem the most family focused to me, but that doesn have to mean that there are the same stereotypes and discrimination in their society as in our world so using the same stereotypes would probably not fit the story.

Very impressed with the amount of work that this must’ve taken and also the amount of knowledge/research required too.

I’d love some more cultural armour. I think a lot of players struggle especially when trying to dress up their sylvari characters as this race looks most out of place in regular non-race-specific armour.

It would be great to see some of these available in HoT along with some of the previously available armours such as Tribal armour.

As you’ve said, the work is already done- they just need to add some vendors for it

I totally support more cultural armor. At least for HoT it would be cool to have a bigger selection to choose from, when you want work with clothing that fits their culture.
I’d love more armors that are made for Charr…the stretched humanoid clothing often looks a bit weird on Charr and they often clipp with theit mane, ears and tail.
With asura I’d love more helmet skins that emphasise the ears, I always though it looked really uncomfortable for them to wear a helmet that makes them “lose” their ears, which is sadly in a lot of the skins made for humanoid body models.
More plant-like clothing for the Sylvari would also be great since i personally don’t really think they fit together well with human-made fabric clothing…It just look pretty awkward.
The norn look still look better in armor than most of the other non-human races, but I’d love to see the “lone super strong hunter”-part of their culture more emphasised in their cultural amor…like having it consist of animal skins that are losely sewn together for example. the female norn often just look like overgrown human women, which is a bit sad in my opinion.

I would love to see the elling woman hairstyle in the game.
I love it soo much irl and I’d love to have my main Norn-lady wear something like that. It keeps the hair out of the face is very practical even for fighters (you got the braid up in a bun in like 5 seconds and it stays like this for days, if you don’t start messing around with it) and it’s still very feminine while not saying “fantasy princess”…I love that it is asymetrical and all the rope- and english braids just scream “norn” in my opinion.

I also would like to have a scar/bruise-pack were you can add a number of scars on your character (perhaps race bound, like the sylvari having white or green bleeding wounds or the Charr have their fur not grow back on an old burn wound). It should be a bit more expensive of course, since it would be boring when everyone and their mom had identical scars. But for shoing that the character has been wandering and fighting for 2 years rl-time that would be very nice.

I personally like the Norn women more, than the human woman, since they look more “massive”, which fits heavy armor classes in my opinion. i also like that you can make them look more muscular and so more like “real-life women”. I’m not small myself and i prefer the female character in the taller and more muscular side.
I also like the animations of the norn women.
My guardian is a human guy though. He looks so tiny and delicate next to some norn. Always wondering how his stixi-thin arms can even hold these massive hammers. ^^"

So after finishing this part of the PS (with my other character i didn’t play vigil), I felt a bit sad and felt like doing something small about him.
The writing is not really ne krytan. since new krytan is just another alphabet, but the language is English. I just used the alphabeth, but the words are German. In English it means:

Boring races

I’d love more options for some of the females some races (more scars, blind eyes, face tatoos for norn, so that not almost every norn woman wears eirs tattoos), but generally you’ve got somthing for every taste.

I’d love to have some more formfitting and less “bulky” armor pieces for the guys though. like…with no “skirt”, cape or coat above their hips…makes them look like they’ve got some broad child-bearing hips…not what i want for my charakter.

i tihnk the Sylvaris look better with one “magic” classes like mesmer, necro or Ele.
Asura… well they’re small so you can’t see so much details, wich is sad, since their cultural armor is pretty cool on my opinion.
Norn are cool, when you want to make a brutal looking, tattoed, barbarian character (or you just want a cool non-barbie female character) , which suits heavy armor classes a lot in my opinion.
Human…is kind of “default”, but i like the Personal story, I made my guardian human. i don’t like the cultural armor that much though.
Charr are just awesome. period. especially for the heavy armors.
They have big problems with clipping though and because of they hunched back, you don’t see so much from their breast armor.

Oreithyia.3064

world is changing…

people have to start adapting too

gotta learn that mere words shouldn’t be able to hurt

Nonsense. Anti-Semitism has become socially-acceptable in recent years again across Europe because of this kind of laissez-faire attitude. At what point are people expected stop ignoring the verbal abuse? When it becomes physical abuse? When the death camps reopen again?

People bleat on about their “rights” and their “freedom of expression”, but it seems the responsibilities are dumped on the victims, not the anonymous cowards dishing it out from behind their keyboards.

I think this depends greatly on were you come from.
While I’ve seen people critising the politic of Government of the State Israel and some are rude with it, but I have yet to meet someone that was openly antisemitic, even the people of muslimic religion, that have a big problem with how Isreal handles the conflict with Palestine, usually are more speaking against the country than the religion.

Back to topic: I haven’t notice much racist comments in the chat. Sure there were people making fun of other languages, but it seemed to be relatively friendly joking and the other people answered respectively jokingly.
(i.e.: a german guy telling an Austrian guy that they don’t speak a language, it’s more like “incomprehensible grunting” and the Austrian guy answering that they atleast have some kind of “character in their language and don’t speak like Golems”.)

According to the gravestone he was born one year after the foefire, 1091 and died 15 years later.
Gwen has married Keiran in the 1080ies, if I remember it right, so she whould have the partner to become a mother.
Because of the writing on the stone “I’ll make you proud, brother”, it also seemed to be, that the person, that commissioned the stone was a silbling, and since it must be able to do that, the silbling was probably already old enough to pay the stonemason.
So was this silbling of Cordelius an ancestor of Dylan and Logan Thackeray?
Do I interprete too much in this?

I really didn’t think the story was that bad.

Loved the voice acting and cutscenes that were in the game.

I agree with the story. It wasn’t that bad, but it was “meh” imo. Just another person in the Guild Wars universe that takes a well-earned spot that we’ve carved out for ourselves.

Though the ending was very boring. I had a greater challenge at the last boss in ESO. I’m hoping they really up the ante for HoT.

I certainly hope you’re not talking about Trahearne’s voice acting. That was rubbish.

I’m not exactly trahearnes biggest fan, but this hate in the forums is also too much.
he’s an okay NPC, it doesn’t seem to me like he’s “stealing credits”, and even if, a totally selfcertered kitten of a ally would be a nice change among the usual heroic NPCs.
And the voice… i can’t talk aout the english one, but the German voiceacting is totally okay.
I just don’t like it, that they obviously started with recording for male characters and didn’t finish all dialogoue for female characters. My character a female, I’d like to be consistently adressed as a female and not just sometimes.
if they have to have just one recording male or female, then you atleast call all characters “she”. Or just allow the player to play either a female or male character.

That is awesome. Should be pretty easy to make some medium leather revealing armor. The ninja look is a cool one, form-fitting, midriff exposed, mask, maybe a hood or scarf…shiny leather with some touches of metal or chain. Just too good. Not a fan of those shoulders though.

They have more revealing armor for the guys, but the armor are more “male power fantasy” then really sexy…

What does that mean?

It’s just a tumblr feminist buzz word. It doesn’t really mean anything.

Oh, alright. As long as we got that cleared up. XD

I don’t have tumblr. I don’t know were I have it from.
For me it mainly means, that the guy is naked not to appeal to his on-lookers, but to look more bad-kitten …like for example Tacitus talking about the Cheruskans in the varus battle fighting naked, to make them sound more frightening.
It was very unlikely intended to make them looks more “sexy” for the invading Roman soldiers.

I don’t mind revealing armor for the women. I actually like some of them a lot.
I just want male armor without a skirt or a coat, where you can see the hip region and the b*tt. People don’t have to be naked to look sexy. My human would look so nice in tight pants.
I know it is not very practical, since the guys of course would want to protect the jewels and so a longer gambeson or chainmail is probably much more realistic, but I’d like to have the choice to have a more appeling looking guy.

But strong masculine traits are sexy to some (if not most) women (and men?). There is no real difference between “power fantasy” and “sexy” when it comes to men. Masculine traits in men are considered sexy. Feminine traits in women are considered sexy. Revealing armor for men can be both empowering and sexy. Revealing armor for women can be both empowering and sexy. Many “progressives” do not understand this.

But a man hasn’t less “masculine traits” when wearing no coat or skirt to hide his backside/hips.
A lot of the armor makes the hips look wider and give the hip and thigh region an A-shape and while I’m okay with them I’d like to have the choice without excess fabric or metal around the hips.
I want a male outfit that’s “intended” to look sexually appealing and I think there are much more women and men finding a man in for example tight jeans appealing than in a skirt.
One of the biggest genres for looking at fanservice for a female potentially gameing-affine audience would probably be the Shojo/Josei genre…the men there can be pretty powerful, but they usually are a lot less " pure power fantasy", less over the top muscular or less uselessly equipped ith bulky armor and weapons than comics and literatur for a male audience, the same when you look on literature for a heterosexual female audience.
GW2 has a big female fanbase and they tried to appeal to them already with a lot of the faces or humans males, so why not with atleast one armor?

Do Norn use Jails?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Oreithyia.3064

You know, one of the main “punishments” you recieve hen put in jail, is that you’re not able to actively and freely be part o the society anymore. This is something that can make humans in the long run go crazy.
but the Norn don’t have such a strict bond to a society in my interpretation. they have loser or closer bond that heavily depend on personal relationships and personal achievements and less on ritualised and codified laws and social bounds and rules.
they basically a group of individualistic creatures that group up to have better chances in certain situations, but they as a whole, have less of a “pack- mentality” than humans or charr, as I perceive it.
Perhaps like a group of bears that meet for mating and salmon spawning season and go their individual ways afterwards again.
I also think that Hoelbrak is very unusual for Norn cuture because of that.
The homes that you find outside of hoelbrak are also mostly just one house of one family and their guests and not a village with several families and guests.

I think it is more likely for a Norn to perform a personal act of revenge and punch or even kill the “criminal” than actually them locking the other up.
If you had a jail , you’d have to provide that Norn, that doesn’t hunt for themself, with food…I think regarding on how big Norns are and how the nature around them doesn’t make it easy for them to produce agricultural products, it would be a bit portion of work with no profit to hunt to feed them.
It is easier to solve the situation by beating them up and tell them to leave your homestead and don’t bother you again.

With the SoS I think the Norn, since they’re more indivudualistic, actually don’t judge them as a whole and just see them as a bit “odd” for chosing a this kult, als long as they don’t cause inconvenience directly to them. And then they’d probably just beat up the individual SoS that did it and not every SoS they see.

Just make an option for both skimpy and strong armor versions for all races and genders and stop judging other people for their tastes and fetishes.

I 100% agree with this.

they already “judge” the taste of the players, by making the PCs all the same age of young adults instead of including children and older characters and not making the guys wear “seductive” outfits, like the girls (still having my fingers crossed for cheek-free pants for the norn and human guys though…just for the lulz of it.).
I don’t think it is a bad thing to keep certain fetishes out of a game, that’s PG12.
There are lot of “sexy” outfits for norn and humans, i don’t think we needs more “sexy” races.

More seductive outfits for charr

I don’t like the thought of people wanting the charr to look “seductive”.
Not only because they’re animal creatures but also because of the way “love” and “romantic feelings” is not exactly a focus of their culture and I think in most cultures this stuff, at the beginning, follows the needs of the main portion of the members of the respective group.
i think we can be pretty sure, that the concept of “romantic love” in the human sense is actually relatively rare amoung charr.
they surely have feelings of love, but these are probably more accepted towards their warband and legion than an individual.
I can see a lot of male and female being “married” to their warband (not in the sexual sense of course, I don’t want to think about sexual stuff when it comes to animal-like creatures).
I think procreation has in charr-society a much more practical reasoning behind it than actual romantic affenction.

Language portuguese

Oreithyia.3064

The problem is not learn the language. What i think is if they translated to Russian, Spanish and German, they could translated to my language too.

They have not translated it to Russian.

Both Spanish and German are very large languages, with rather large playerbases (I seem to recall something about the German playerbase alone being bigger than the whole NA playerbase back in GW1. I’ll see if I can find it.

If they start translating into minor languages they would suddenly have to start supporting hundreds of languages, which would require hundreds of new employees which would require millions of dollars.

1- Germany not large languages. Verty small languages use in the world.

2-Portuguese used in 9 countries as an official language, and in more than 20 paieses as a second language more. On average 340 million people speak Portuguese as the language oficial.E the fifth most spoken language in the world. (Data taken from google)

German is an official Minority language in 7 of Germanys neighbouring countries and in 2, except of Germany it is one of the offical languages. Not to forget there are enough countries, like for example on eastern Europe that have german native speaking Minorities or speak languages very close to German.
It may not be the biggest speaker group, but German is still in den Top Ten.

However what it is probably more important for A.net: There may be only 185.000.000 people in the world that speak German, but central Europe is a pretty rich region with a high standard of life, so the chance that a very big part of them owns a PC and so is a potential costumer of a.net is probably a few percents higher then people that speak Portuguese.
they’re also more likely to buy in-game stuff, since the avarage life standard is higher.
I read a study made during the football WC last years, that in brazil only 50% of the people have access to the internet and then, from that 50% you’ve got to subtract the people that use mobile phones or tablets to use the internet and people that visit an internet café to do so.
A.net has to think comercially and decide which markets are the most likely one to be potential costumers. this isn’t meant to be racist, or that they don’t “like” the other languages, it’s an economical decision.

Also: Germany has already a pretty good dub-scene (eventhough of course some games/movies are still kitteny kitty). The infrastructure to make dubs for that language is already there, so people are used to getting translated stuff especially since the german group of players in GW1 was pretty big. Chance is, that some people wouldn’t have buyed an untranslated version.

i personally don’t like the English version, because i personally think the German one sounds more “fantasy”-like. In other games, books and movies i prefer the original language and subs, but GW2 just sounds more epic in German, in my humble personal opinion.

Good job.
Do have the possibility to record your electric piano directly with a cable ith your computer?
that would make the sound quality a bit better.

no under water content in hot?

I’d like to have more underwater content, but as it is right now it isn’t fun.
It’s broken and inconvenient. So aslong as they don’t change that, they shouldn’t make new under water content.

Now that everyone and their kitten has expressed their discontent over the prank or their discontent about other peoples discontent about the prank, can we go back to enjoy the game or whatever you want to do this evening instead?
it’ll be gone tomorrow and while I find the people against it understandable, it doesn’t make it better when both sides complain about it, again and again and again and again.

first of all, why do you assume it applies to people in the US? Secondly, not seconding your position does not equal not understanding. I am German and understand what you want, I just happen to disagree.

Back to the topic: Well, what happens here is very different from what you bring up, an enactment of an event is a lot different from “something having to do with planes” in this April´s fool joke. And even if there was such a school shooting simulation. Be offended all you like, I keep it with the Stephen Frye quote earlier in this thread: That does not give you any privelige on other people´s actions and opionions. I don´t care whether you are offended or not. I don´t have to comply to your values and opinions. That in fact is one of the pillars of civilization, my feelings, thoughts and opinions are not to be determined by a collective or some single person.

It as a Pars pro toto.
If you go to this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Getting-to-Know-Your-Fellow-Posters-Thread/first you see there are a lot of the forum users come from the US.
I don’t see anything wrong with you disagreeing with me.
I just think that from a " costumer relations management" pov it would have be wiser when A.net would have taken something that is not as easily connected to “real world”-stuff. they would have prevented a lot of unnessecary kittening and trolling.
just my humble opinion.
I could also have taken 9/11 as an example, but a lot of people have already done that.
it was more about making people think ,that something that is just “some incident at the other side of the world” can be “something extremely close to me and my daily life” at another

And this is what I meant with “bad timing”. I still don’t think that the prank itself is bad , i just wish they would have waited with it.

Players using the “plane theme” to have “fun” by throwing themselves off cliffs in the Shiverpeaks, posting “Germanwings going down” in map chat and asking for a rezz are the real people that are insensitive and plain idiots mocking the dead and their relatives.

My son (who is 7) and enjoys GW2 very much, is not pleased with this April 1st mod. I have promised to ask when it will disppear, or if there is any way to disable it?

He just wants his hero back again…

You know that GW2 is PG12+?

let’s just hypotethically think of it like this:
there was a school shooting again in the US and 150 grade school students died by the hands of some psycho.
A week later you log on to one of your favorite games and there’s a “april fools joke” that makes all the enemy-NPCs in to children and you have to shoot them to complete your quests.

A closer analogy would be this -

there was a school shooting again in the US and 150 grade school students died by the hands of some psycho.
A week later you log on to one of your favorite games and there’s a “april fools joke” that makes all the characters and NPCs wear school uniforms

It wouldn’t. the PC is wearing a pilot cap and we are able to control in which direction the “plane” goes, that makes us obviously the copilote and not the passengers.
We’re in the role of the committer, so of course we’d also be the committer in the analogy with the school shooting and not the victim.
So we’d have to “shoot” children, not to “be” children for the analogy to fit.

for the people in the US, who obviously don’t understand what I other mean with insensitive and tactical unwise.

of course it could be long planned but, after it happned it would have been wiser to wait with this prank and don’t do a prank at all or chose to do something else instead.
Of course people die every day, but this isn’t an excuse for stopping to think about other peoples feelings.
I find this joke actually is pretty funny, but I think the timing was pretty bad.

I don’t think they should change it…it’s gone anyway by tomorrow. There are some people every year that complain about the april fools prank.

I think it was tactically a bit unwise since people are right now pretty focused on that plane crash, but otherwise it’s pretty funny.

i wish they’d recorded several voices with “plane”-sounds though…my norn sounds like an asura.

I find it highly funny and enjoyable and i even make “vruummm” noises myself…it reminds me of a simpler time…back when i was a kid, with no worries…the sky was the limit and we just pretended and had fun…

I caught myself doing that too…going “njööö~”while circeling other players. XD
